Inspired by that commercial for Capital One and another thread, I thought I'd poke around and see what everyone carries around US/IOA with them.

My fanny pack is small, but I made sure I got one with an outside zipper pocket to keep our AP's and room keys.

Inside the fanny pack I carry:

1. a small notebook to keep track of spending, things to see and do, prices and locations of souvenirs to go back for and hotel and restaurant phone numbers along with important info on any reservations we might have;

2. my cell phone;

3. folded up plastic bag to put my fanny pack and other things in when I am on water rides;

4. a wash cloth and/or bandana to dry faces and glasses after getting soaked on the water rides!;

5. a small bottle of sunscreen (sometimes I empty a lotion bottle from the hotel room and refill it with sunscreen);

6. chap stick, bandaids, blister pads, headache remedy, antiseptic towelettes, wash-n-drys, waterless handcleaner;

7. individually wrapped snacks; and,

8. a small amount of cash and a credit card (I like to use my room key to charge wherever possible, but I find that the system is down a lot so I carry the credit card just in case).

IYO--what else should I be carrying?

Hmmm, how about the kitchen sink? ;)

I think that you have a good list. I like the washcloth to dry glasses and the plastic bag. We still have a fairly young child so still push a stroller. We really load the stroller with all our things. It's a pain to push it sometimes, but it sure is nice having a place to put everything.

Same as many above, with the addition of a small bottle of insect repellant and a "Skeeter Stick" just in case the insect repellant doesn't work.

I HATE HATE HATE bug bites!

I can't get my kids to carry a fanny pack anymore and I don't like them because you have to stop at security tables. If DW goes she has to carry one. Without a fanny pack I have to wear shorts with cargo pockets and shirts with at least 2 pockets (I like the fishing shirts with lots of pockets). I can and have carried almost the same stuff as you have listed with the addition of a poncho for water rides/rain and tootsies pops. It takes a while for me to get used to where everything is though because I carry my billfold in my front pants pocket to thwart pick-pockets. We seem to have the most fun on times we don't even take a camera.

Who wants to be the pack mule?
I like how Prince says his wife takes it and Jess says she MAKES her husband to take it! Lately I've been lucky because my daughter likes carrying her Dudley Do-Right backpack and everything goes in there.

I carry my camcorder, tickets, credit cards, and $ in my fanny pack. I like to keep mine small because it's easier to take on coasters.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I forgot to mention, on the days I carry a camera, I put it in a ziploc bag to make extra sure it does not get wet on the water rides. Come to think of it, I put some of my other items in ziploc bags as well.

I'm sure some of the other people are in the same situation as I am - my fanny pack weighs about 40 pounds when I am done -

Blood Tester/Test Strips
Syringes
Insulin
Something Sweet to eat
Extra Diabetic ID Chain (in case I lose mine)

Plus all the stuff you listed except for crayons (watch out with those - they melt!).................

How large is a "fanny" pack?:D :D We don't call it that over here - it's ever such a funny name for me! :rotfl: Been reading what you all keep on you while you go round the parks......

Well I carry a zipped bag with lots of compartments and I carry it over one shoulder - not round my lower middle - which I think is where a fanny pack goes - does it? Or inside the stroller. In my bag I have driving licence for ID (as I like a drinkie!), purse with money &credit cards, hairbrush and hairspray, wet wipes, towel, make-up stuff, drinks/sweets for kids, camera, pen, map, sunscreen, mini-first aid set, sunglasses, tissues, mirror, contact lens case, plastic poncho, virgin plastic bag to put this bag in on wet rides - and gradually as the days go by more and more stuff seems to collect in it.......:p

lol Selina -- I knew you'd say something about "fanny pack!" :p :p Bet that would always give you an odd visual....:rotfl:

I don't carry one either, but have a special camera bag where I can carry my SLR camera, camcorder, CD player w/ headphones, and lots of film and camcorder tapes. One of the straps has a cell phone holder too, which gets used, definitely. I also carry my wallet with my AP, cash, and website business cards, and a small container of Iboprofen (sp?) in the bag as well.

In my seat cushion (in has a side pouch...comes in handy) I carry "make-up stuff" as Selina calls it :p, mini spiral notebook and a pen for trip report notes, show schedule (like I need one :p), and if I decide to bring some...pictures I have taken.

I am sure here in the UK we call them bum bags and until we went to the parks in the states I never saw the need for them but at the parks they are so convenient for carrying the essentials although my idea of essentials is not same as my DW :rolleyes: forthat we need a backpack:tongue:

The American fanny.....Selina can discuss the British as she would be more of an expert than I would....:p

Really Spidey.....I thought it was a strap that went round your hip and the bag hung infront of your fanny/*****!!! So is that the American fanny too? But if you don't call it a fanny - what nickname do you give it? I once went out with a Canadian and he was in hysterics because one of the guys whom I worked with was called Nigel!!! I expect you think John is a funny name too. In england fanny's sometimes are called Mary too. And like Highlander says - we have a bum bag - which doesn't usually hang at the back but at the front - actually that hangs over the fanny now I come to think of it.
So to clear this up......where does a fanny pack usually hang and how big is it and what does it look like. I assumed it was the name for an english bum bag - a small zipped holdall on a strap to go round the waist or hip. What's the difference between a fanny pack and a rucksack? or a fanny pack and a backpack? :D

Hey...I've been censored!! the ***** was another term for a cat!!! in case you were wondering.

OMG!! I never thought my innocent question would lead to censored responses! :eek:

Selina, over here, a fanny is located on the opposite side of what you folks consider a fanny. Both men and women have one. It is the part of your anatomy you sit on. Does that clear it up? I imagine if our fanny was the same as your fanny, I would have been censored too!

As Flyfly indicated, a fanny pack is strapped around the hip or waist and the bag part of it hangs either in front of you or to the side. I rarely see anyone actually wear one in the back (over the fanny) as it would likely be in the way when you sit down. The size of the bag varies, usually the size of a purse. A back pack is usually larger and is strapped over the shoulders and hangs down the back. I do not know what a ruck sack is. I hope that clears things up.

A ruck sack is the same as a back pack and a bum bag is same as a fanny pack as we in uk call our behinds bums and in the states u call them fannys:jester:
