How fat do the markers/pens for the characters to sign autographs have to be? As big as a Crayola Marker for example?
Do they need a big area to sign or will 4 X 6 card size be fine?

We usually use the 4 color pens. This gives the kids a chance to change colors depending on the character. Minnie always gets red. This pen is "fat" enough for the characters to hold.
4"x6" is fine. They will be able to use that area. Have you thought of getting an autograph book? Or maybe a t-shirt and have them sign with a Sharpie. We've done this one as well. The kids like it too.

My boys are getting these Toy Story photo albums that measure 4x6. Since they will only want certain autographs, we're going to get postcards for the characters they want and then only carry them with a pen into the parks. We'll have the characters sign their pictures.
The album will then become a memory book to hold other momentos, i.e. autographed postcards, menus, napkins, stickers, tickets and photos of their trip.
I thought of the T-shirt idea, but didn't want to lug them around the parks, and thought them being boys, they would get limited wear and then shoved into a drawer. This way everything will be in one small album for them to keep.

We're doing the same thing. I just bought index cards and Mickey Mouse photo alblums at Walmart. I figure since I'm not sure if they'll want autographs or not, this way I'll be prepared for anything.

Another idea - we had Pooh and friends sign DS's Pooh hat! When they weren't signing it, he was wearing it so there was nothing extra to carry around! It worked out great! :)
