View Full Version : Margaritas at San Angel Inn Any Good?

My wife is a margarita fan. We've always stayed away from the San Angel Inn restaurant in the Mexico section of EPCOT due to consistantly bad reviews.

However, we would consider sitting down for a couple drinks if the margaritas were decently strong and tasty. Anyone have any experience they can share?

Thanks.

We enjoy San Angel. It's just not Tex Mex.

Anyway the margaritas are strong and very good too.

BTW Stacy, you and I don't seem to be agreeing on much tonight!:o

DW says they are really good, but kind of strong. I get my own "buzz" by drinking too much of the yummy cinnamon-flavored coffee. Our usual strategy at San Angel is to order the Queso Fundido for 2 appetizer. That, with chips & the drinks makes a good meal for us. DW says her favorites are the "Fiesta Margarita", a layered frozen version found at a stand next to the ring carver along the promenade.

they have good ones at the stand outside, too, I had a mango one that was good out there.

I like the margaritas AND the food at San Angel.

Thanks everyone for the input. We may just have to try it for ourselves!

We went for lunch with my DH's family, there were 9 of us total. DMIL is very picky about restaurants. She liked it! The food was really good, but looks like it may be a little overpriced for dinner. Anyway, back to the margaritas. I didn't have one but 3 others did. Everyone seemed to enjoy them, the only problem was the size of the glasses. They use handmade glasses and they can vary quite a bit in size. Guess who got the littlest one? Yup, DMIL. She was not happy. But, she still says she wants to go back there next time.

Good luck!<a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_13_2.gif' border=0></a>

I echo this sentiment. I will not be running back there any time soon for a margarita! IMHO, the fiesta margarita from the stand outside was much better.

I really like their Margaritas. I do not like the ones outside at the stand because I do not like frozen drinks plus they are weak, imo. I get a Margarita on the rocks at San Angel and also the Queso fundido appeitizer and I am in heaven! I find San Angel's margarita's on the rocks to be much stronger and much more authenic tasting than what the outside stand sells.

Doug123, as you said it's probably best to judge for yourself.

I imagine we all think we're picky about our drinks. I've never tried a fiesta margarita from outside in part because a margarita isn't supposed to be frozen much less be in different colors and flavors! Sort of like thinking a pink sparkling whatever is the same as champagne. Like Deep, I find the ones served inside to be authentic as well as strong. You can taste the tequilla, they're not sweet and one is plenty! All IMHO of course.

BTW I'm sad to report that the queso fundido is now only two soft tortillas with cheese and chorizo. It's probably a better size for an appetizer, I suppose. Sometimes we were so full after those we could hardly do justice to the entree.

Personally, I would go back to San Angel Inn just for the margaritas. I love them! As DeeP said, the ones in the restaurant are much better than the fiesta margaritas outside. The outside ones are pre-mixed and don't seem to be nearly as strong.
JMHO...

the frozen kind either but felt that the ones served outside did have a bit more of a kick than the usual frozen ones served elsewhere.

Well, maybe I should get over my bias and try one some day then.:D

Sorry to buck the trend, but this was one cafe we won't go to again. I found the drinks watered down and tasting only of the mix. Horrible. We were disappointed in the quality of the food as well, even though the restaurant inside was fairly empty, the hors de oeuvres came out lukewarm.
Love to look around the bazaar and the atmosphere is great. Perfect as an oasis on a hot summer day.

I'm probably picky about beer, wine, bourbon, scotch, gin, even vodka, heck even tequila, but for fruity slushy florida shunshine umbrella type daiquiri machine drinks my standards are probably pretty low ;) but I agree its probably best to judge for one's self - its all where you want to draw a line and I can't help but respect somebody for knowing where there's are ;)

I love the fiesta margaritas at the stand outside. And they have enough of a kick to get to me. But I hardly ever drink so a margarita is enough to get me ripped. My favorite drink is a sombrero, Kahula with milk, so imagine what a margarita does to me.
I have never eaten inside because of the bad reviews I have read. I also don't like the darkness of the restaraunt. I want to see what I am putting into my mouth.
But I do enjoy the combinacion platter and a fiesta margarita during Illuminations. I eat at Taco Bell though so that doesn't say much for my taste in Mexican food. Peggie

it's a funny thing about the fiesta margarita's......I have had them where one has bowled me over and then on other visits it was like drinking frozen fruit juice....I guess it all depends on who's "tending bar" the day you decide to try one.
