View Full Version : Poseidon Soft Opening !!!

CoasterFEV

As the usual bearer of bad news - I'm going to make everyone happy !!!!

The rehad of the Poseidon building is on schedule. The new show is outstanding - if not downright spooky!

Soft openings for guests WILL begin on Friday, June 22nd barring any unforeseen issues. So if you are visiting IOA anytime that weekend - make sure you plan a visit!

The attraction will not appear in the adventure guide, nor be advertised, until early July. In addition, expect some longer than usual waits during the soft opening period. The old Poseidon's Fury loaded a new show every 8 to 10 minutes - don't expect the new show to run this quick until we get the kinks worked out.

I loved that attraction when I went in November. It just so happens that the 22nd is the exact same day I had previously planned to visit IOA for my upcoming WDW trip. Thanks for the great news!!

4 more days 'till I'm off to the World!!

"Spooky" huh, Coasterfev.......... so will it still be okay for my 5 and 7 yo? (they saw the old version of Poseidon.)

I'm encouraged this was on my must do list....

You really might want to see it yourself BEFORE bringing the 5 or 7 year old. Our new show is MUCH darker, MUCH scarier, and ALOT more thrilling. Remember, IOA's target demographic is the families with kids who are bored with Disney. The suspense going from room to room will really take many by surprise.

Thanks for the good news, CoasterFEV! The Poseidon attraction was my DW's second favorite attraction (with Spider-Man as number one) in all of Universal. I'm happy to hear that the new show looks so promising!

Out of curiosity, what does the FEV in your user name refer to?

Also to Coaster FEV which day in early July will be the least crowded day at IOA. My days are the 1st - 8th that I can go anyone of those days. Also do you think that the new show of Poseidon's Fury will be open during my visit.

CoasterFEV
06-13-2001, 11:01 AM
Wow - you're certainly coming to visit during a busy week. With July 4th falling on a Wednesday this year - crowds will be high almost all week.

Honestly - it looks like July 8th would be your best bet for lighter crowds. Sundays are typically a bit slower (especially in the early morning) - and with the holiday week coming to a close, the 8th will be a big travel day.

Although...that would mean you would have to wait until the end of your vacation for Universal - now THAT is gonna be the tough part!

---------

Yes, the new attraction in the Poseidon building WILL be open during your visit (again, barring any unforeseen technical issues)

Thanks for the good news on Poseidon. I guess that makes up for the bad news on FOTL on Spiderman. I am arriving July 14th and I can't wait, I just hope those scanners are NOT working by then.

Scary......will it be like Pasaje Del Terror/Terror On Church Street style, and the Halloween Haunt Mazes, with people chasing and jumping out on you?!?

Heya all ,

I'm going to be in Orlando June 24-July 1. I was wondering if the soft opening would still be going on on the 25th, 27th, and 30th? I really hope it is, I'm dieing to see what the ride is like ;)

Sorry, Kali, I don't have an answer to your question, but I was just wondering. . .since the previous PF had us going to Atlantis and now that Disney has a major motion picture about Atlantis, maybe all they're doing is getting rid of all references to Atlantis??? Granted they could easily change the first act (and need to!) but I wonder if this was just a simple fix to get rid of all references to that other film! I mean, why would they change an already great attraction? (other than the first act?)

Forgive me if someone has already posted this theory, I don't make it to these boards too often. I'm hoping they really blow us away with the re-do, but I'm not holding my breath . . .get it. . .underwater. . .Atlantis. . .ah, never mind:rolleyes:

I'd like an answer to the question asked about FOTL being used on the soft opening. Will it...?

CoasterFEV
06-16-2001, 09:04 AM
Remember, it's a soft opening only. No announcements, nothing in the Adventure Guide, you may walk by and it's closed, you may walk by 10 minutes later and it's open. It's the parks chance to see how the new show runs with guests. Lot's of variables really need to be checked, there's even talk of the need for a child swap at the attraction due to the intensity and "fright factor" of the new show.

Yes, there are still references to Atlantis - but only brief if that. It's got nothing to do with the Disney film (c'mon, you don't see Sea World changing the name of it's big water ride), just a much better story line.

On-Site guests will receive Express access once the soft opening gets going smoothly, probably early the week of the 24th. But remember, it's a soft opening, no promises - things change every 5 minutes - that's why we'll put the big "technical rehearsal" signs out front.

Thanks CoasterFEV. I do disagree with you on one thing. Saying the new show will have a much better storyline than the movie Atlantis. It may be but don't underestimate the movie. Disney has made ANOTHER blockbuster animated movie that will become an instant classic. When we went to see it today the theater was packed and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I hope WDW has it's own great attraction to go with the great movie soon. Also do you think the new show will be scarier than Alien Encounter? I personally don't find AE scary but alot of people do. I find it more funny than scary. Thanks

with any ride many people may find it scary and many do not. i mean some people think that the dinos at JPRA are scary but to most people they are not- i personaly wont know and don't care too much till i go there on sunday.

You are right. What I ment to say is will it use the same type of scare techniques at Alien Encounter.

Thanks for all the info CoasterFEV.;) Now I can't wait for my trip next week.:bounce: I need to remind myself to use Lost Continent as a route to whatever I'm going to so I can check up on the ride.

Also degenerationxwwfwdw1, I don't think CoasterFEV meant that the new ride has a better storyline than Disney's Atlantis, I think he just meant that the update has a better plot than the original ride.;) I may be wrong though.

Thanks again.

I think what CoasterFEV meant was that it will have a much better storyline than the previous version of Poseidon's Fury.

I'm sure that no one at Universal would so arrogant as to think they could come up with something better than Disney. ;)

I'm sorry, nothing personal here, but I really hope that you didn't actually mean "I'm sure that no one at Universal would so arrogant as to think they could come up with something better than Disney".

Being in this business for 20 years, and being one of the those persons who comes up with this stuff, I would take great offense to such a statement.

CoasterFEV: Thanks for the info. Do you know if it will be easier for people to see the main "show". Some people said they had trouble seeing the old show when they were not in the front!

I think Kelly's statement was tongue and cheek (judging by the wink!);) ;) ;)

Yes, my tongue wanders into my cheek with some frequency. I believe I am on record in several places as believing that Universal has bested Walt & Co. on many fronts.

Earl, if you are one of the brains behind UO, all of us on this board owe you a big round of applause!!!

Is the storyline similar to the new attraction at Universal Port Aventura, Templo del Fuego?

(Taken from Screamscape) "We were right that it would be similar in style to Universal’s Backdraft and Twister attractions, but this one takes it to a new level. Since it isn’t based on a film they had to create a story of it’s own. You will explore an Archeological Dig site where your guides, live actors, attempt to remove the treasure and anger the fire god. Hang on, this one may blow you away."

Come on guys, spill the beans...

Regards

Rob

It's becoming widely known now that once you pass thru the water vortex, you'll enter the Mummys' lair. Dr. Hammond is your guide (since he lost his job in Jurassic Park), and he summons the powers of Poseidon to help us mortals escape. Everyone knows the Pyramids were secretly connected to Atlantis via deep tunnels, right?
Oh, and during the Wholidays, it's the Grinchs' lair you enter. Not the Mummy!
Naturally, it is then that we're rescued by Cindy-Lou Who!!
Believe it, or...

I agree with a previous poster on their question, can someone post a link to this "public announcement" of the ride's storyline now? Are there any spoilers in it? I'm really looking forward to this rehab and am planning on making it one of the very first rides I hit in August. Thanks guys.

CoasterFEV
06-21-2001, 07:12 PM
Poseidon opened TODAY, 6/21 (look at that...one day early!) for guests from 12:45pm to 6pm. Lot's of good comments from guests and only a few technical difficulties with the building.

FYI: Universal Express (the kiosks AND for on-site hotel guests) is ALSO running for the soft opening. You will want to use it - waits today for Poseidon were typically around 45 minutes and the park wasn't all that crowded (and we were pushing shows through as quickly as the building would take 'em!).
