Hello:
We are beginning to plan our first trip to FW. We are a family of four (kids 5 and 3) camping in a tent. Should I be worried about getting reservations for third week of September, or do I still have time to make up my mind since it will be the start of low season? From what I read on this board loop 1500 is probably best for a tent.
Thanks for any info/opinions.

I personally never had a preferred loop. Sometimes I want it quiet, somtimes not. I also never had a problem with a short notice reservation. I think being low season, you will not have a problem. You may though want to reserve SOMETHING, and then I've you need to, change it, but at least you have assurance of getting something. This way you may have a false sense of securinty, but you sound as though you are flexable and may be able to MAKE it fit the reservation that you made.

There are only two partial hookup loops in the park--1500 and 2000. 1500 is quite close to the pool, campfire program, and pioneer hall. It is also one of the pet loops, so if you care to bring a pet it's welcome in that loop; however, you must kennel them while you are away from your campsite.

I thought that the pet loops were 1600 and 1900??

The pet loops are 1600 through 1900 and I think there is now a preferred loop also. 1500 and 2000 are not pet loops. The 1500 loop is a great loop. Very convenient to the pool, campfire, bike barn, meadows trading post and there is a bus stop right in front of it.

We are tent camping the second week of Sept. in the 1500 loop . we booked early using DC card and got it for $27.00 a night. I like having it reserved even though we would prob. still get a spot on short notice.

If it were me I'd book now to be certain of getting a partial hook up site. If you want real insurance, also book a week on either side of the dates you're considering. You can modify the dates when your plans gel. Remember it's the same first night's deposit for whatever length of stay you book to hold a campsite and you can cancel a reservation up to 5 days before you arrive and get your money back.
