Crowds in December?

Hi guys. This will be the first trip to Universal for myself and 17-YO DS. I have two trips planned for next year (Mexico and a poker cruise) for myself and my husband and another trip to WDW. I would love to stay onsite, but next year's travel expenses are going to be outrageous.

Anyway, how crowded to you think it will be the first three weeks. I'm considering the $20.03/night rate at DTD. That's right at $300 for five nights and the 5-day passes. Do you think we would spend five days standing in line or will we be okay?
