Has anyone ever Paid for a Prefered but been bumped to a Standard at the Values?

I am planning a solo trip for 03/2004 and am a little nervous about staying at a Value (previous trips at Mod or Deluxe) and being at the mercy of the room assigners during a busy time. I was reading the room descriptions and it stated the Fantasia buildings only had doubles and I was wondering if during a busy time if they would put a solo in double or insist they take a King.
Being a solo it is important to me to be close the main facility, food court, bus stops etc.

I had trouble with CRO (pricing correction not in the computer at check-in, not room type) at AKL during our 2003 trip and wonder if I hadn't been at a deluve would the resolution been so easily worked out.

I've stayed solo at the All Stars 3 times and while I've never paid for a preffered room, I've also never been so much as offered a king.

The first time I wasn't really solo as I was with my sisters family and we got just what we requested, connecting rooms in the Toy Story section.

Second trip, in my fax to the room controller I asked for a room close to the main biulding and noted that I was arriving very late at night and traveling solo. I was happy with the location of my room in the football section.

This most recent trip, I basically made the same request, minus the very late arrival. When I checked in at about 10:30am I was offered a room that was ready in Mighty Ducks. I said I would be happoy to check my bags and not get an assigned room until later in the day for either Toy Story or 101 Dalmations. I ended up in Dalmations, but only 2 rooms away from the furthest end of the building. I'm not sure if I screwed up my request by arriving so early or I was not going to get it in the first place.

In any case, none of the rooms in Fantasia, Toy Story or Dalmations are really that remote.

I have done solo many times at All Stars and have never been offered a king. I think that there are so few and wanted by many guests that I doubt it would happen to you.

at check in i requested the preferred bldging and advised i was willing to pay. the CM looked it up and gave me a preferred with a king bed and did not charge me. i think it depends on when you go and who you get. as far as value vs. mod/deluxe i enjoyed the ASMU and would stay there again i also had previous stays at deluxe and moderates

The reason you are rarely offered a King Room at All-Stars is that all King Rooms at All-Stars are handicapped accesible rooms, and guaranteed by "Special Needs" reservations. Only on rare occasion are they offered to able singles or couples that request them.
