I'm not sure if this has been discussed already, but are there any vegetarians doing Atkins? I didn't eat meat from age 12-19, I somehow went back to meat during college and stopped again In February when my weight was out of control (I'm 28 now). I have lost about 35 lbs since February just by cutting out meat ( I mean no meat, no seafood, no chicken, nothing) I've been looking at my diet and I realized I'm going overboard with the carbs now. I read something a natural living board a few months ago about Atkins/with no meat. Has anyone done it? I read on the Atkins site that it is possible to be a vegetarian on Atikins, but not a Vegan. I am willing to eat eggs, so I'm thinking if I get creative this might work out. Any tips for me???

My sister and I were just talking about this the other day. She doesn't like any meat except chicken. She also doesn't eat eggs. She wants to try Atkins but I really can't see how she could do it. It's not like you can eat chicken breasts for 3 meals a day! I've been doing this for almost 3 weeks and I'm sick to death of eggs, and I like them! I wish you the best of luck, I'm sure that there must be research out there. Try LowCarbFriends.com. It's a great resource.

Hi Jaimee,
I am following the South Beach Diet and I am a vegetarian.
I have heard that in some ways it is similar to Atkins.
For eggs I always use an egg substitute like egg beaters.
For protein I use meat substitues like veggie burgers, patties etc. from Morningstar Farms and/or Boca Burgers.
I hope that helps.
Good Luck!
