Nov. 2 – When we were leaving Epcot the night before we picked up cheese platters and some apple tarts from the French bakery. They served as breakfast for everyone the next morning. I availed myself of a couple of bites of cheese and an Atkins shake (gotta get in the protein) and the others ate the tarts and cheese. They enjoyed it.
Lunch – we were in the MK so we stopped at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. My favorite spot for a cheesy good time. DH wanted a turkey leg so he ran out to the Lunching Pad for it. MIL had a Caesar salad, I had the grilled chicken breast sandwich, FIL had a burger. It was all ok fast food, not as bad as many other places. I thought my chicken was a bit dry but it was ok. It’s a good place to get out of the sun.
Dinner – MIL picked Norway, Restaurant Akershus. OK, disclaimer here. This isn’t my favorite type of food. I am not a big herring eater at home, and although I love fish, I don’t usually pick this kind of stuff. I took very little from the cold buffet because I fill up too easily. DH loaded his plate so much the girls were beaming at him. From the hot menu I ordered the Soused Mackerel. I liked it, DH didn’t, surprisingly enough! He had loaded up on the herring, salmon, cheeses etc. on the cold stuff. From the hot menu he ordered the salmon and then the meatballs. He liked them both, and he raves about the meatballs. MIL had venison stew, which was very tasty, and FIL had the salmon, too, and he also loved it. The service was excellent, the place is great looking, but it really isn’t my cup of tea so I wouldn’t do it again. My MIL and FIL say they will go back.
Nov. 3 – Everyone gathered for breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery. I had ½ of a buttered roll (more carbs I didn’t need). It was late and the egg sandwiches were sold out. DH had a chocolate frosted donut, MIL had a croissant, and FIL had a bow tie. Not a healthy breakfast. I went back to the room for an Atkins shake. BTW, they are awful, but they have 20 grams of protein and very few carbs, so they work for me.
We split up again today. MIL and FIL spent the morning hours at AK, we stayed at the pool.
Their lunch – a late lunch at the Dolphin. They ate at that little 50s style café place, I forgot the name. They had Caesar salad and tuna salad in a bread bowl. They enjoyed it.
Our lunch – burgers out at Beaches & Cream. I ate the burger but not the bun (ok, I had a few bites) and DH ate all of his, and my fries. He had ice cream, I didn’t. I really like Beaches & Cream. Cute atmosphere, very relaxed, and the food is always good.
Dinner – Oh what a night! We ate at Chefs de France. We had an excellent pinot noir with dinner. DH had the pate campagne – a pork pate that was delicious. Almost all of us went for the duck duo – roasted duck breast and duck confit with cherries. MIL, DH and I ordered that, and it was heavenly. FIL ordered lobster bisque and an appetizer – sort of a ham and egg tart. MIL shared her duck with him. The duck was delicious – better than we’ve had in NYC. For dessert DH had chocolate mousse, MIL had an apple tart with ice cream, and FIL split that with her. I abstained. The service was excellent. For all of this we were charged 146.00. Coming from the NY area, we found this to be extremely reasonable. We were undercharged for the wine – the bill had the right name on the wine, so we know he keyed it correctly, but it was 28 instead of 41 – but that’s the way the computer had it. Very strange.
Nov. 4 – A sad day for us – time to go home! Breakfast was at Boma. We scheduled a late (10:30 am) breakfast for our final meal. MIL was especially impressed. She went up to speak with the chef, Angela, and learned a great deal about the different items. She wants to come back just to have dinner there. Her favorite dish of the morning was bobotie from South Africa. I had eggs and a bowl of quinoa, a south American grain that is extremely high in protein. The Kenyan coffee was so strong but great!
