View Full Version : Your favorite WDW ride....now extinct?

So tell me, what was your favorite, but now missing, ride at any of the WDW parks?

Mine was If You Had Wings. I actually found a website the other day about it, and it was amazing to look at the pictures and remember the ride.

My boyfriend also told me that there used to be a type of boat ride in the moat around Cinderella Castle...but I do not remember this. Does anyone else??

If you had wings was my favorite also. I do have a very fuzzy video a friend sent me so I can refresh my memory (have to use my memory, the video is really dark). The boats you are talking about were the swan boats. I remember seeing them but never went on them myself.

Probably the Hunchback show at MGM. It wasn't the greatest show IMO, but it was nice while it was here. At least one good thing happened since it was closed- Beauty and the Beast started back with shows 7 days a week. :jumping1:

I miss-

Delta Dream Flight
Mr. Toad
Horizons (I only got to go on this one time before it was banished. :( )

I also miss 20,000 leagues just for the fact that we could be going on it and not looking at wasted space.

2) Horizons
3) 20,000 Leagues under the Seas Submarines

I miss World of Motion...I loved the humor.

Also, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride....Our daughter drove her grandparents straight to h--- at the age of 12...on their first trip to WDW...made a wonderful family inside joke which still comes up 8 years later.

Even though the ride is still there, I miss the name "WEDway people mover". There was just something about that name that is currently missing.

I miss MR TOAD!!! Yes Soltwisch Mr Toad is still running in California, it's a little far for me to travel, but I can deal with it since I still CAN ride it.

Since I can still fly to Cali and ride Mr Toad, I have to agree the "Original" Journey into Imagination is a big one for me...

I agree... it will always be the people mover to me....

Mission to mars is an oldie but goodie... SKy Buckets... LOVE those! But prefer the ones at DL as they went thru the Matahorn (are the DL ones still there?)

And I hope and pray I will never have to add CoP to this list.....

Our family loved World of Motion.

My memory is a bit hazy.. was Delta Dream Flight and If You had Wings the some thing or not? Was one a circlevision (is that what it is called) movie?

I miss the skyway too. My DD was a bit scared of it, but I had to ride every time.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame's at MGM was a big loss. There were visits where I kept coming back all day!

It was disappointing to experience 20,000 League Under the Sea as a teen, return 25 years later looking to share it with my own kids and find out it is gone...

But the most catastrophic disapointment was the look in my children's eyes when I told them that they closed the Alien Encounter!

Disney's Imagineers think with the same bodily organs they use to excrete, if you please allow me to openly express my deepest thoughts on the matter...

CoolDisneyCat:
If you had wings and Delta Dreamflight were similar but not the same. If you had wings was first and Delta Dreamflight replaced it when they changed sponsors from Eastern Airlines to Delta. The circlevision you remember was called America the Beautiful.

I keep hearing a lot about The Hunchback show I saw it in 1996 and thought it one of the worst things in Disney i thought the juggler was much better

Am I missing something?!!

In no particular order:

:earsboy: If You Had Wings / Dreamflight (see this website for a nice tribute: http://home.cfl.rr.com/omniluxe/iyhw-main.htm)

:earsboy: The RYCA-1 post-ride show at Space Mountain. A neat look at the future. Big-screen TVs. Video phones. Automatic language translation. Now everyday items at Amazon, Amazon and Babelfish. You kids don't know how good you have it today.

:earsboy: The original Tiki Room show. Remember the days when attention spans lasted twenty min....wait, what was that on TV?

:earsboy: Horizons, but it would be really dated now. And there's enough video of it on the web to reconstruct the entire ride. Should I win the lottery (and I mean when, I'll donate some of my winnings to re-constructing this attraction.)

I vote for the 20,000 Leagues under the Seas submarine. As a small child, climbing into the sub and going underwater was a thrill. It's a shame it's not around anymore.

The got rid of the buckets at DL about 10 years ago.. Too many people throwing things... The rides I miss most from DL are:

The Submarines.. They used to have real mermaids in the water!
The People Mover
The Cars that they put on the people mover track.
The Rockets
Swiss Family Robinson Tree House

But we all have fond memories of our favorite rides... But I do like how they differ between the two parks...

Back when most rides/attractions required an A, B, C, D, or E ticket which you had to BUY in a booklet that never had enough E tickets, my favorite was "If You Had Wings". It was FREE and the A/C was always ice cold. I love Buzz Lightyear, but I wish they would have left the airplane takeoff from "Wings" and "Dream Flight"! I like that part better than what they do now!!:D

(Sorry if someone else posted this; I read most of the posts but might have missed one.) There were swan boats (http://home.cfl.rr.com/omniluxe/psb.htm) at the castle. You can still see the ride track.

Anyway, the ride I miss is the original Journey Into Imagination. I first rode it in 1983 when I was 7. I loved it!

I agree with "If you had Wings'. I can remember as a teen running out of tickets. (I think E tix were the good rides. As I remember I'd always go home with A tix left.) We'd ride on it 4 or 5 times in a row. We'd also run over to the Contemporary and go to their game room. It was the biggest gameroom I'd ever seen in my life. I swear it used to be bigger than it is now. I also liked the Main Street Cinema with Charlie Chaplin movies but I always wished that there were seats there like in a real movie theater. Oh & that Walt Disney Story movie that they used to have.

And I do remember those Swan Boats in front of Cinderella's Castle. I didn't really like that ride. They had minature scenery things to look at and as a teen I thought it looked bad. I was also totally amazed the first time I saw Circlevision, America the Beautiful. (Just wished there were seats. I felt like I was always standing. Thats why I went on "if you had wings', I could finally sit.)

I remember the first time I went to Magic Kingdom, my brother & sil thought that the only way you could get to Tomorrowland from Fantasyland was to ride the skyride.

I also remember camping at WDW and swimming was allowed at the beach. But I was always afraid of gators, so I never would.

WOW! So that's what those look like. I always wondered why it looked like a ride was in that moat once...and now I know.

I love "old ride" stories. Anyone remember Boardwalk and Baseball in Hanes City?! :)

Stepharoonie, I never went to Boardwalk & Baseball but did go to CircusWorld twice. It was in the same place as Boardwalk & Baseball. I remember watching the circus, getting my face painted & wanting to be selected for the audience participation show. I never got picked & was so disapointed. I think that was the main problem with the place. If you didn't get selected you just spent your time watching. They also added some sort of a rollercoaster - it was the first time I ever looped on a coaster & I was terrified. I loved the concept but they needed more stuff to do. It would have been great if there had been a way for everyone to participate. As I remember it took about 1/2 a day to go thru.

Another one who misses Horizons, in fact I miss the old Future World. My goodness, we spent a lot of time there in the olden days.

BonnieA

I remember Circus World fondly. That was also the first looping coaster I ever went on. My son had his face painted there and I bought all the makeup to do this at home (and I did for many Halloweens). There were also quite a few shows. There was a huge screen movie, a magic show, a circus show under the big top. They had indoor displays of miniature circus set ups. There was a parade everyday and all the children were asked to participate. There were other rides, though not too many. We went there 3 times and each time they had added more. This was at a time when Disney only had the Magic Kingdom.

I remember the day the shut down Circus World...I was one of the last people in the park. Then they turned it into BoardWalk and Baseball....my first ever REAL rollercoaster ride was on the Hurricane there!

It's sad to see places like that go. :(

I also remember Xanadu the HOUSE OF THE FUTURE in Kissimmee. It's still standing, creepy looking as ever :)

It was my first year to teach. I had 34 third graders in the lower part of South Carolina. I thought it would have been wonderful to take my students with me on that trip. They would have been amazed. They would have loved the Swan Boats. Most of them had not even been to Charleston 30 miles away! Boy the memories. Things do change!

Count me in as missing Horizons too. My oldest son adored the submarines on his first trip at age 2. I remember climbing down into those subs at least 4 or 5 times on that trip! Does anyone remember "Magic Journeys" which was the Three D movie where the Lion King show went in at MK and where "Philharmagic" is now? I thought that was kind of a neat little movie, not very "flashy" but pleasant and relaxing.

Not a ride, but a place that gave my family great joy. We will truly miss it when we are there next month...

We forever will mourn the demise of the Gourmet Pantry. Best place in the WORLD for a little take out meal for everyone with a candy or fabulous dessert snack...and the most inex*****ve. It was always a planned event for us.
