Hi Lewis,
Sorry about that. It looks like I got the html version correct, but had a typo in the spreadsheet. It's fixed now.

OK OK I get it. The person who lives the farthest way from Florida gets their doc last right? That would be me.

No UPS person for me either. I think I will go clean my hand and face print from the screen door. This waiting is driving me crazy. Or maybe I will go shopping for clothes for the cruise to take my mind off my doc?

Spreadsheet update:
NYdiscuisers, we are staying at the Renaissance Orlando Hotel Airport the night before the cruise.

So the rest of you are impatient waiting for you docs too, huh? I left our house this a.m. to run errands, and saw the FedEx van driving up the street parallel to ours. I pulled over and stopped when I saw him stop too. 'Must be reading a map,' I thought. No, he actually had the nerve to get out and take a package to the house in front of him! 'How dare he deliver OUR Disney docs to another house," I thought.

Okay, I guess I'm getting crazy here:crazy: waiting for the cruise. I was so sure he was going to continue on to our house, but he then left the neighborhood.:(

OK, the North Carolina update. My Uncle and Aunt got their docs yesterday (they live in Charlotte)...Mom and Dad don't have theirs yet as far as they know.

May Brown be there for all of you Monday morning!!!::yes::

Six more weeks from today, at this time, I'll be ordering my dessert at Lumiere's!!! :bounce: :bounce:

You guys are too funny........I can laugh because I have mine!!

Dw and I were just saying that we act like the quicker we receive our doc's the quicker we leave. I think they are just a license to start packing.

May Brown reach everyone on Monday!!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Oh yeah! I can start packing! (I was lying in bed this morning thinking about what I needed to pack in my cruise-survival medical kit) Anyone have a good hangover remedy?
;)

The weather right now makes me long for the cruise as much or more as when it was cold. It was 82 here yesterday--played a round of golf with DH and went to sleep with the sliding door to the deck open. Of course that means I was awakened at 6:30 when all the birds started singing--and after the Canada Goose's car alarm went off, I got up out of bed, made some coffee and here I am!

Six weeks from today on the Magic--Day at Sea, Formal night, and likely I will not be awakened by the car alarm of a Canada Goose! (honnnkk!! honnkkk! honnkkk!)

Have a good one all!

Do you think it is too early in the day to order the "drink of the day"?

There was a list of things I wanted to accomplish this weekend. Needless to say there is still a clogged sink in the house and no flowers were planted. However...our flights are booked as well as our hotel for the night before. Priorities, priorities. ::yes::

Just have to figure out the excursions, find a good book to take and how much wine to take with us! That is not as nearly as stressful as booking flights!

Have a good week everyone.

Well, I got a great deal on a formal dress this weekend and we all manage to get a few summer/cruise clothes. My DH and I managed to get the suitcase down and began throwing stuff in it. My DD already had her suitcase down and packed one month ago.

I would like to bring a few bottles of wine. Do you carry them in your carry-on? What about wine glasses?

I told my DH that I should stay home from work on Monday to wait for my Doc's. I think that is a good excuse. Don't you? LOL

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

chairee0, I went formal dress shopping too this weekend. (Actually, I went to exchange one I'd previously bought.) I think I'm driving DH nuts. I saw one I liked better, and, well..

As far as wine, other posts have stated that it's preferred to be brought in your carry-ons. (We're bringing our own sodas and beer.) I'd thought about a soft-sided cooler, but don't think they're allowed?

Well, everyone, we can now say it's less than six weeks away!:sunny:

You can bring wine in your carry-on--Disney is one of the few cruise lines who let you bring your own wine on. I wouldn't worry about glasses, you can get them from room service without a problem.

I've been slowly taking our clothes to the cleaners, one week at a time, in order to avoid the big fat cleaning bill before the trip. I can't start packing yet, though--my family makes enough fun of me as it is  I'm not allowed to start packing until 2 weeks before the cruise. :hyper:

Another day bites the dust!

That means one more day closer to the cruise. Anyone else think of the days, like I do??????????

Bought DH (XLT800) and DD and myself some "cruise shoes" this weekend.

Starting to assemble the "don't forget" list.
1. stop mail
2. get Bonine
3. start pressing clothes.................

No I'm not dancing:mad:

I was hoping Brown would be here today. DH is home tomorrow, so the docs are sure to come. (Anytime something 'fun' arrives in the mail, he'll call and say 'guess what I got in the mail, haha haha haha')

Good idea, Fran, starting a 'to do' list.

Does anyone have pets? Have you made arrangements for anyone to feed them? We took our dogs to a kennel two summers ago and they whimpered when they saw us leave (they were still less than six mos.) DD bursted out crying when they did and said she 'didn't want to go.':( Needless to say, it started out on a sad note. This summer, our neighbor's son is coming over to take care of them.:teeth:

Have any of you ever had any last minute 'oh-no, we forgot..'?

Dog gets to stay with a neighbor. She will be fine without us. She will probably enjoy not having the kids around.

I still don't know what we're going to do with our 100lb golden retreiver, Duke. My whole family is on the cruise, so he won't be able to stay with anyone and we'll be gone nearly two weeks.

DH's assistant offered to keep him with her family at her house, but she ways about 10lbs more than the dog and I'm a little worried he'll be a bit much for her on a leash (we live on 2.5 acres and he is rarely on a leash at home--and not at all familiar with cars and traffic, so he wouldn't do well in her neighborhood.)

A kennel is an option, maybe for the first week, and then when my mom and dad get back from the cruise they can go pick him up. I COULD let him stay at home, he has a fenced in yard with a shelter, but I really hate to do that too. I just don't know WHAT to do.

He's the sweetest dog I've ever had--a brain the size of a walnut, but just a big teddy bear.

tchrmom
04-20-2004, 08:54 PM
I vote for the assistant.

He will adjust very quickly, when not given the option to roam free.

Our dog goes to our neighbors, who speak only spanish at home.....but, somehow, Kassy knows what _"__________" ( enter the spanish words for "Kassy do you need to go outside?") means.

Of course, once we return, she barks in spanish for a while:hyper:
but we get use to it.

We got even when we kept their dog for 3 weeks when they went to Mexico. We taught it English!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Just kidding!

Good Luck in what ever you choose!

Mickeyhugger
04-20-2004, 11:24 PM
If you do leave him at home, do you have neighbors who'd be able to come and feed him and maybe play with him each day for a little while?

If he's in his own environment, it might be less stressful for him and you.

(Too bad you don't live close to us. He could come stay with our two goldens. They LOVE other dogs! And they're big babies too!):D

Mickeylover
04-21-2004, 07:16 PM
Thanks you two! (too funny about the Spanish!)

I do have someone that can come by and see him--but he usually doesn't stay out overnight very often, and definately not for that long. I'll have to kick it around some more and really appreciate your feedback.

Thursday our AC died, we live in Virginia and were having our son's first birthday party on yesterday. Had to take half a day off work on Friday to install a brand new AC unit.

Once the installers were finished, I wrote the check and they drove off. There was a knock on the door five minutes later, I thought they had forgotten something...but alas no, there with a ray of sun beeming down upon it was the long awaited documents. :hyper:

We're gearing up for a busy month. We've got something (sometimes more than 1) going every weekend from now till departure, starting with DD5's 6th bday party this Sat. and nephew's baseball tournament Sat. and Sun. In addition, there are several school events that are on weekdays in May! Oh yeah, there's that work thing too!

Don't get between DW and I and the bar on May 29th! We will be <b><font color=red size=5>SO</font></b> ready for this vacation by then! What's the drink of the day on departure day?

May is very busy. We can't wait till the cruise. DS had a baseball game last night until 9pm. The good news is that our pool is starting to warm up. On Saturday, the pool got up to 78 degrees. Both kids swam, but it was still to cold for me and the wife.

Welcome to the thread Quirky Cruiser.

XLT800, did you ever think you would have this many hits and views when you began this thread.

78 degree pool water is too cold for me. Tchrmom keeps ours set to a balmy 90 degrees. Feel great unless you have just mowed the lawn.

We also have a B-Day party to plan the Sat before the cruise for DD. It is going to be a very busy month but that should make it go fast.

Welcome Quirky Cruiser. The thread got started slowly but picked up quick. It sure helps pass the time. Simba....tell DCL that a drinks are on the line. You want your docs NOW!!!!

First time poster here! Incredible wealth of information here and a multitude of hi-jacked threads ;). Just figuring out the acronyms, emoticoms and expressions here is post-graduate work alone!

May 29th (someone please set-up our timer) will be our second trip on the Magic. We went semi-blind into our 01' cruise and we still had the most incredible time. While not the place for a trip report our 9 year old girl at the time (whatever that acronym is) met two girls from Sacramento that are still friends to this day! They travel 2x a year to see each other every year since the Magic!

Now we have a 17 y/o girl along with the two 12 y/o girls (we evangelized a new convert to DCL) and the old people are both 43. Hoping to find a 15 y/o+ fellow DCL girl cruiser to meet up with her on the first day of intros at Common Grounds.

Well, time to read some more and I am sure we will post more in other areas as we have two days at WDW to sort out (we have never been to WDW) and don't have a clue yet how to organize those two days! We don't even have a room for WDW, but we are staying at the Hyatt Airport for the Friday night prior to the cruise...........

Mickeylover
04-28-2004, 07:00 PM
Yep, a busy month is ahead, which means even with all this planning I'll end up frantic the day before we leave trying to get everything washed and packed!

DS also has baseball Friday nights and Saturday mornings so its really busy all the time. Lake temperature around here is still a chilly 68 degrees--not quite to my liking yet--but hey, the ski boat cranked! :D

Dave, I'll try and find some lime green ribbon, but I'm probably not going to have my picture taken in lime green when I walk on board (it is fine for my Margarita, but not a color that looks good ON me!) ;)

Paul, I still can't get one of our family pictures to upload into the gallery for some reason--I'm usually tech literate but its just not working for me this time--maybe I'll save it in a different format and try that!

As far as the meet, I think we should meet in the Walt Disney suite, which SimbaNoodle is obviously getting upgraded to since his docs still aren't here. If that falls through, we can start out somewhere at the sailaway party and go from there since SimbaNoodle is buying us drinks! ;)

And has anyone ever noticed how many exclamation points I use in a post? What's up with that???!!!!

MMMMMMM Bay Breezes!!! The ONLY way I'll drink grapefruit juice! Welcome Desert Disney and Quirky Cruiser!

Well, I did it!

This afternoon, I drug out the big suitcase and put the newly purchased sunscreen and over the door shoe holders in it. As I type, it is here, in my den, waiting for me to add things.::yes::

Mom, I think a Castaway Cay massage would be right up your alley! It is a massage, in an open air cabana,,,,over looking the ocean (so I'm told)

Book that as soon as we get on the ship. THOSE fill up fast!:cloud9:

By the way mom........I did buy the new washer and dryer today!

Hi there:wave2:

Just bumping this up as it was getting harder to find.

I'm writing a 'things to do list' as we get closer to the 29th. I have these nightmares about finally being at sea, and remembering something we forgot to do...'Oh no, I forgot to unplug the coffeemaker, the house will catch on fire, or 'We left the gate open, the dogs will run away,' etc.:scared1:

Has anyone bought the passporter (guide to DCL)? Even for repeat cruisers, there's some very helpful information. For instance, (never having ordered before) I didn't realize that tips for room service cannot be added to the stateroom bill, and that it's suggested to bring a sufficient amount of dollar bills. Also, I didn't know that the 'Outlook bar' (on deck 10?) serves panini sandwiches and hot wings at lunchtime. (BTW, what is a panini sandwich? I'm sure I've seen them before, but can't remember. LOL!)

rcostello1
05-03-2004, 09:19 AM
Outlook serves sandwiches? Like free? :) hehe I didn't know that. I'm waiting on my passporter, I ordered it last week. I'm lurking...I will be on the cruise and I'm hoping none of my coworkers see this message :). They know I'm on vacation but they don't know I'm crusing. Let's just say we're all related to the mouse!

I was looking at the salon services on the DCL website. Was thinking of waiting to get my hair cut while on board. Their prices are very reasonable. Might look a bit shaggy by then! Hoping I can get a cut on the first evening.

Has anybody ever used the salon?

Mickeyhugger - I did get the new passporter - this time I got the deluxe version. I have the first one, but felt compelled to get the new one. It does have a lot of useful new info - particularly the shore excursion reviews.

On our Western cruise last summer, I saw the outlook bar open a few times - I think it was open on sea days. Panini sandwiches are so yummy. They are basically a sandwich that is pressed on a grill (picture a sandwich in a George Forman). Those hot wings sound good!

RCostello - I don't talk about the cruise much around work - I'm 24 and everybody here makes fun of me for sailing Disney - they just don't understand. They think I should be sailing Carnival! I think they're just jealous!

It is raining up here today - makes me long for the ship even more! I am looking forward to sunshine and calm seas....and getting away from work!

Welcome to all the new cruisers, it's great to have you aboard our thread. Still no doc's yet, but our passporter did arrive on Friday. I had never seen the 1st edition but the new edition is great. Full of info and photos.

My wife is getting tired of me everyday saying, in 26 days we will be out at sea, or in 28 day we will be at the Port.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Hi Everyone,

Glad to see there are so many as anxious as our family to get underway. This will be our 3rd Disney Cruise, and we're more excited than ever. Not sure about which excursions to take on the first two stops. Any suggestions? Look forward to seeing a ship full of fun and exciting cruisers.

Welcome jaxkong and rcostello1! :wave2:

jaxkong, my family is doing the Pinel Island snorkel tour in St. Maarten, and many on this thread are doing the Golden Eagle excursion in the morning.

As far as St. Thomas, the champagne catamaran and 5-star snorkel tour seems to be popular.

For all of you who've recently begun posting here, (I respect if some have to be private,) can you tell us with whom you're traveling? Are there anymore children joining us?:D (There are going to be a lot! Help makes for a  crazy and fun:sunny: cruise!)

Back to what I am looking forward to:

Since Mickyhugger brought it up......Chicken wings
- the comedy shows at night
- midnight room service.....we leave dollars bills in a drawer for the kids just in case they decide to watch some TV and get hungery.....which they always do and besides room service is "Free" This way they can order anytime they want.

Is there any one souviner you must have this trip? Tchrmom must have the captain mickey antenna ball. They sold out last trip.

Always buy it when you see it! You are in the middle of the ocean, who's gonna restock the ship? :) I buy whatever is on sale! I got a steal last summer on some Tommy Bahama silk shirts and shorts. I have to make a list of what I need, or rather who needs what...I did buy the WDCC Captain Mickey since it is exclusive to the cruise line.

And who knows, maybe tomorrow my back-to-back April cruise will turn into a trans-canal May cruise... :)

OK, so far I've:

Made tip enevelopes for the Head Server and the Assistant Server as well as one for Room Service Tips (these all go in the suitcase ahead of time so its not so painful to shell it all out right before the cruise.)

Also have my underwater cameras and single use cameras for the kids, as well as sunscreen, Bonine, and various other drug store "remedies". ;)

I've hemmed the sleeves on DS's tux, and am slowly having all my clothes cleaned at the cleaners (save those plastic bags to keep your hanging clothes from wrinkling in transit!)

I hope the month of May goes by quickly.

I still need to get some seasick meds. Not sure which one to get. My DM mention a patch that she got from her doctor when she went on the Disney cruise a few years ago. I may ask my Doctor for those.

I still need to buy a lightweight jacket for the wind and cooler nights.

I think I'm going to buy a tux. I will need to 3 times in less than 12 months so that will be a better investment than renting. I can get a basic one for $179 at Jos A Bank (then I have to buy the shirt, cufflinks, etc....where are those savings???).

Tchrmom, yes never hungry, I rather think "it's been two hours, I *must* get something to eat" :)

I bought lots of Captain Mickey antenna toppers. For me and to share. They are also good for pencil/pen toppers. I have a whole collection of Mickey toppers on Disney World Resort pens and I made a simple stand to pop them in...it sits behind my knick and knack stuff on the hutch of my office desk. Finally something to do with all those toppers.

Thanks for the suggestions for the first two stops. I've been to St. Thomas before, but its been a long time. Should have mentioned that we have two boys (14 and 12) that are looking forward to something fun to do ashore, so any additional suggestions are appreciated. Been on two previous Disney Cruises, and would be happy never leaving the ship.

Also looking forward to being around lots of Disney fans. We live in Celebration and love being so close to all the action at WDW. See you all in just a few weeks.

Welcome to all the new posters!

Just had to post that we're now booked for cruise #3! DW got the CA to FL 14-day repositioning cruise for 8/20/05! It's going for $8023 for our family of 4 (DW, DD(11), DD(7), and myself) for a Cat 4 w/ no transfers or insurance. Now we wait and see if we can get some price break by re-booking onboard. Only 472 days to go :)

We also booked the FL-CA 14-day, but in all honesty, do not know if we're going to be able to do it. (We have until the 10th to call in w/a deposit.)

We'd have to pull DD out of school at least a week early, and buy three one-way tickets from DFW-MCO, and three more LAX-DFW. The savings we've made on the 14-day (5800ish for a cat 9) will be forfeited on the airfare.

We also booked the 7-day out of Los Angeles for August 6th which, most likely, we'll sail.:D

rcostello1
05-05-2004, 05:30 PM
Mickeyhugger, I totally understand. I have a friend that wants to go but she can't...we work in education...May is state testing and August is right before school starts, both times when she can't go. For me May is fine, an average or slow month in my dept.

Thankfully airfare will be easy for us. JetBlue is cheap and perfect from LGB to IAD and somebody will be cheap to get to Florida for next year. We have great choices in the DC area.

I think we will spend a few days at Disneyland. That is Memorial Day Weekend when we get into LA. The parks will be busy but oh well. I will burn some DVC points for that :) Maybe get a really nice room at the Grand Californian.

Yes, Dave...I am still managing to sleep--and yes my entire office knows my cruise countdown and they are pretty much sick and tired of hearing about it (but they can't say anything because I'm their boss!) I figure it will be as much of a vacation for them as it is for me!

zmanmj If the seal isn't raised, but it is still a seal and not a photocopy, you should be OK. Does the certificate say that it is a "certified copy"? All my kids have raised seal certificates.

I think we should break ties on who can "properly" do the dance steps to the Electric slide, Cha-Cha slide, and the "Hey Baby" song at the Embarkation party! ;) Lord knows my DH would be paying for everyone's drinks!

Also, as far as the tie goes, I called DCL and they told me, according to the DCL manual, paragraph 467, section B, line 4, in the event of a three way tie for last to receive documents and at least 14 days has transpired since the first cruiser has received theirs, the obligation to buy drinks reverts back to the person, or persons who receive their documents first. I just hate legal jargon, but what are you going to do?

You must not have read the "clause" at the bottom of the page, indicating that if indeed, the first receipt of fore mentioned documents, resides in the same state as the departing port, the burden of "first round" falls directly onto the cruiser who travels the farthest. Look it up if you don't believe me.:scratchin

How many of you have a Disney related number programmed into you cellular phone?

I just bought a new phone yesterday and was programming it and thought I should put some Disney numbers.

Just curious.

Good Morning Everyone,

I can't believe it is only 2 weeks away. My tux pants came in the mail yesterday, so I am now going to get them altered.

We have decided today would be dedicated to cruise preperation, driving all over Mobile to pick up the last few items.

I hope everyone is excited.

I'm doing the same thing--went to Wally-World to pick up some stuff we need to pack for the cruise, and now I need to go through DH's clothes to see what I might need to buy.

(He's terrible for waiting until two days before we leave to announce that he needs more dressy shorts, socks, whatever!)

I might do a "dry run" with the packing this weekend--things are crazy at work and I really need to take a day off to go shopping with DM--she's not a big one for shopping and needs some "cruise-wear". Finding time is the problem! :earseek:

Have a great week, everyone! We're nearly at the single digit dance!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Great day at Disney yesterday........all we could talk about was the cruise though. Saw all of the DCL buses making the rounds. Tchrmom wanting to "try" checking in for the cruise at AK. Even thought about driving over to port just to watch.

Last minute shopping will have to wait for next Sunday. Today we have to shop for DD birthday goodie bags and such for next weekend.

We've been doing the cruise errands for the past few weeks (just minor tidbits here and there) and one would think that we'd have it done by now, but there are still lists to be made, and more things to buy. DD's last week of school is this week, (thank goodness it'll free up some time for us next week.)

Amidst the craziness and shopping, it's a fun kind of craziness, isn't it? Preparing for a cruise!

Anyone care to share what is on their must pack list?? I have yet to get started! Having a home for sale and a spouse out of state isn't helping this process.

I would love some tips to make the run into Target more efficient!

Paul,
You can add our info to the spreadsheet -
DH - Gerard (celebrating his *4-0* birthday)
DW - Terry
DD - Jessie 10
DS - Jake 8

We have stateroom 2614 per our docs. :)

Mickeyhugger
05-16-2004, 04:43 PM
Geetey, here is what we have in our pile so far:

travel size shampoo & cond (DH and DD use the DCL shampoo/cond, but my hair doesn't do well with it)

extension cord (so I can use blow dryer in stateroom)
our own blowdryer (the one in the bathroom isn't fast enough for me)

inexpensive shoe organizer (to help keep clutter off counters)
LOTS of sunscreen
shower buffpuffs (I use bodywash)

Wow, looking at the list above looks as if I'm high maintenance!
(DH teases me)

Dr. Peppers! (We're forgoing the soda mug this time and bringing our own.)

rolls of quarters (in case we do laundry..hopefully not)
loads of film

Okay..that's what we have for now..who else wants to add to this?

XLT800
05-16-2004, 07:45 PM
Here is our must have list.............so far!
Downey wrinkle reducer
Extension cord
Hair Dryer for the girls
Sunscreen for everyday use and spray sunscreen for hairbraids
overdoor shoe organizer
Bonine.....we take one every night just to be safe
Bottle water
Diet Coke
Bottle of Crown Royal
Plastic cups to make Crown & Cokes
Assorted meds for colds
Collapsable cooler
Walkie talkies
Batteries
Camcorder
Extra tapes
Digital Camera
Memory cards
Disposable water camera
Disposable camera for kids to use

No wonder we take so much luggage

Hope this helps

Geetey, looks like we have two 8 year old Jakes on this cruise!

Stuff I try not to forget:

overdoor shoe hanger
hair dryer
large zip lock bags
cloth laundry bag
air freshner for the bathroom
post it notes for the room
address labels (to tag my bags for disembarkation)
a few large plastic cups for drinks--they won't come back with us

We'll also buy a couple of travel coffee mugs for our coffee while onboard.

I've spent all day trying to figure out how to pack for dinner attire with the least amount of pants and shoes. (My DSS's size 14s can fill up a suitcase quick)

NYdiscuisers
05-16-2004, 08:44 PM
Terry, I've updated your info in the spreadsheet.

As to packing...well, the suitcases managed to come out from the basement. Now to start filling then. I guess that's going to have to happen during the week. Had plans to visit friends this weekend and next weekend is my parents 50th anniversary dinner!

We also had some scouts in St. Maarten and St. Thomas this past week. My DS and DBIL (sister and brother-in-law) are sailing on the QM2. (DS was lurking on this thread for some info.) They are on there way home now, so we'll be able to get some info from them. They were planning on doing the Golden Eagle in St. Maarten.

Just want to echo one thought:
Don't forget the sunblock...with a high enough SPF!!!! (I had a bad burn on my first cruise because I stupidly used SPF 15 on my first day (bad move on my part!)

Aloe Vera Gel - just in case you do happen to get a little burn...it is VERY expensive on-board and it is a tiny bottle!

Band-aids
hair dryer
waterproof camera
digital camera
memory sticks
small backpack - to take along on excursions
Sunglasses
Ziploc bags (to pack up wet swim suit after Castaway Cay)
Cough/Cold medication....just in case!

I haven't even started packing...I think I'll start that next weekend!

Mickeyhugger
05-16-2004, 10:30 PM

Fran,
Since I already had a timer in my sig, I just copied and editted the code...everything from the less than sign followed by the word "Script" to "Script" and the greater than sign. You could probably do a search for "countdown timer" too.

We are actually into the single digits, since our flight down to FL is at 6pm on Thursday. (My countdown timer is set to our sailaway time.) If all goes well, we should be at the Ron Jon resort by about 10:30pm! Then we enjoy a relaxing day at Ron Jon on Friday (trying not to get sunburned) and dinner at Grills.

Whew! What a day! I spent the good majority of it freaking out unfortunately. Instead of being excited about leaving, I was wondering if I was still going. My friend Laura just began a new job (they knew she was taking time off and approved it) and is also pursuing her masters degree. She emailed me today freaking out and saying that she didn't think she was going to be able to go - too much on her mind and she was extremely stressed about making up work/classwork when she got home. Needless to say, I was beside myself - frantically trying to figure out what to do. Emails went back and forth and we even discussed somebody going in her place. Well, we just talked on the phone and it appears she is going - as long as she can stay in touch with classmates via email and work if need be. So we will be purchasing the unlimited internet package and hopefully all will be well - we will have contact with the outside world! At this point, we both need this vacation! we have been friends since we were 5 and we've both been through a lot this year - so needless to say I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Now I'll happily be doing the single digit dance with all of you tomorrow!!!!! Time to start packing!!!!!

Quick question:

How many suitcases is each family bringing? Including carry-on's. This is the first time we will be cruising with the kids and it seems we are bringing way to much.

Dave, as far as drinks go, I don't mind buying a few, but last time I checked it was a three way tie.::yes::

It should be a great week.

Lewis

rcostello1
05-20-2004, 11:36 PM
How many suitcases?? LESS IS MORE!! I bring only one and I try to keep it NOT full. I do have a carry on for necessities I will need before I get to the room and things like alcohol, etc.

I always pack too much. I was much better in January on my last 7-night cruise. I try to mix and match tops and bottoms. I actually make a list/spreadsheet to determine what I'm wearing where and when...like to formal, semi, tropical, Lumiere's, etc.

I trim down on footwear because I wear sandals for everything except the gym which requires me to bring athletic shoes. I hate to look like a tourist while traveling so I tend to wear button up short sleeve shirts and mid-calf shorts (capris).

I do try to keep separate clothes for the clubs vs dinner vs shore. Or at least wear them in an order. Like clothes I wear to the clubs can end up smelling smokey so I won't wear them again. In port you can get sweaty so I don't like to wear those to dinner or whatever.

Keep in mind most people you see you will never see again! :) Mix and match, wear the same clothes twice...I only wear dinner clothes for 4 hours, no harm in wearing them twice. A normal day is 12-16 in one set of clothes, so 2 sets of 4 is still less.

LESS IS MORE!

Mickeyhugger
05-21-2004, 12:20 AM
Fran, does your DH do the packing? (Guess what, mine does too!) I use to want to do it myself, but his way is really more efficient. I usually have the fun(?) of unpacking.

SimbaNoodle, you asked how many suitcases each family is bringing. If I remember correctly, last year we (DH, DD, and me) brought 4 checked bags and 3 carry-ons/backpacks). If there's anything we butt heads about while cruising, it's the number of bags. We do try to pare it down, but it's hard. This year we're including a hanging garment bag (it will ease the unpacking) and hopefully it'll free up one suitcase. We also try to bring an extra bag for souveniers.

XLT800
05-21-2004, 08:43 AM
Yes...I do the majority of the packing. I am the only one that can figure out how to pack 60 pairs of shoes. I am told that it is "normal" for a 9 year old girl to "NEED" a pair of shoes for each outfit. Don't they make a pair of sandels to go with everything? Kinda like black shoes for men???

Lewis...last cruise we took 6 bags plus we each had a carry on. DW does not want to have to do laundry on vacation. We find plenty of room under the bed to store everything.

I do one pair of black sandals, one pair of brown sandals. And yes, I wear sandals with my suit! :smooth: It leaves more room for what I buy on vacation (more shoes?? hehe). Note to self...need to buy new brown "dress" sandals...

Seriously though, I don't want to overpack since I'm the one lugging it all around. I'll be working on it tomorrow since it looks like I'm going to be very busy at work this week. This time next week I'll be relaxing at the Hyatt! woo hoo!

Status: Just returned from dinner at my mother-in-laws. My wife borrowed a very large suitcase from her, and I do mean large. I remember that at one point in my life I could pack every item of clothing I needed to live in a single olive drab duffle bag. Keep in mind that it is only the two of us on this cruise. The arrival of the large luggage means:

a. 3.5 outfits per day
b. every item of Tanzanite in St. Marten is coming home with us.

Why am I suddenly hoping she does bring lots of shoes?!

Looks like I'll get to spend some time in Diversions watching the Stanley Cup finals. I will miss the ESPN Skybox.

We are in the home stretch!!!!!

Disdmbnut, I sent you a PM.

Before the shoe discussion began, I was almost ready (though I was secretly kicking and screaming w/resistance) to agree to cut back the amount of shoes that DD and I HAVE to bring. (DH goes to great lengths to pack things a certain way, and then loads and carries most of them.) Now, after reading the follow-up posts, I'm back to where I started. I'm so relieved that all of you ladies agree about the shoes. One can never have too many, and sometimes we need two pairs for one outfit! The way I can usually get my way in situtations such as these w/out an argument, is to bribe DH w/a foot and ankle massage. But I'm going to be paying for this for a while!

Also, I'm already sad at the thought what's going to happen when the cruise is over. (Don't even go there right now, I tell myself!) I mean, these boards have been half the fun. We should still keep in touch via this thread right?::yes::

Maybe some of us will book the same itinerary for 2005? (We're hoping to do Thanksgiving, as there's two stops at CC. The west coast is too much $$ IMHO, for an itinerary in which the ports are too hot (so I've heard.)

Gooooooo BOLTS!!!!!! I will have to convince DW that the bartender in Diversions makes the best drinks!!! If Tampa sweeps than we only have to worry about Sat8pm and Mon 8pm.

Pricilla....You and Fran can meet in Diversions at 8 pm on Sat and discuss the end. She already said yesterday that it might as well be over already. We can have a :grouphug: between the 1st and 2nd period.

Brenbug...I like the way you think......I am looking at this shoe issue in a whole new light.

Lewis...I have to back you up on the drinks issue. According to Pauls spreadsheet there are 3 at May 6. If Tampa sweeps then everyone meet me in diversions and I will buy the drinks.

"Crunch time" is right! We managed to get a start on packing...or at least figuring out what we are going to pack. Now it's wash and iron for a bunch of stuff.

We had the final check off for May family activities this past Saturday, so now it's work, packing and picking up last minute stuff for the next 3 days! (We also have some of Thursday, if needed, since we don't leave till 6pm.)

Let's see what have we missed over the last few days...
Shoes: I'm just resigned to the fact that we bring what we bring. Linda and the girls aren't too bad with shoes (and I usually have a few pairs too.)

wyodiscruise:Here's a layout of the dining rotations/shows/dress for our cruise. We found this very helpful in planning. http://www.geocities.com/p_bunce/cruise_files/eastern_rotation_new.jpg

Hockey: Go Rangers!...oh wait, that was 10 years ago! Good luck to your Lightning, I'd love to see a relatively new team win Lord Stanley's cup!

Dis Meet: If you haven't looked, I've added the dis meet time and place(s) to the spreadsheets:

:chat: I just got home from S.C. last night and have been gone for 5 days so I had to catch up on the latest on the board. Why is there so much discussion about shoes? I trained my daughter (tchrmom) well and she loves shoes. I had originally planned to take one VERY large suitecase but discovered there wasn't enough room for my shoes so I am taking a separate suitcase for them alone. I suspect my granddaughter will add a few pairs to it too. I have always wished I had enough $ to have a pair of shoes for each outfit---well I almost have for this cruise. Each time I speak to Fran, I tell her to tell Dave I restrained myself and didn't buy any new sandals that day! He just shakes his head at us. Kelly is in turn being trained well regarding shoes too. I suspect she will have more than I do going on this cruise.
I can hardly wait for Sat. to get here. Actually I am going to Tampa Thurs. and will drive over with Fran, Dave and the kids Fri. Looking forward to meeting you all. Anne

I everyone, we have been so busy packing and getting last minute stuff. I think we are pretty much packed. DH & DD packed last night (with my supervision of course) Since our temp averages about 55-60 during this time of the year, we will not be needed shorts or t-shirts over the next few days. In fact they are predicting rain starting tuesday night.
At last count our shoe count is 3(DD), 3(DH) and I have 5. Now I have to figure out were to put the wine.

Does anybody know if you can were sandals at dinner. I hope so or my shoe count may rise.

Here's an update on our cruise....

I emailed Sandie at All Seasons to see if there was anyway to get a verandah room - I'm currently in a cat. 9. Well, the ship is 100% sold out - they are waitlisting for all room types. Needless to say I'll be fine with my oceanview room. I have been on a sold-out disney cruise and a disney cruise that had staterooms available prior to sailing and they both seemed to have the same number of people on board - you would never have known it was sold-out until you looked down the beach on Castaway Cay and realized how many others were sharing the ship with you!!! The port is going to be mighty busy Saturday morning!!!

I'm traveling with a high-maintenance group of people. I may have to slip them some sleeping pills or I'll be stopping every other hour! I only like to stop for gas.

I think we have a captain Mickey on a Ford Escape. It's not my car but I hope to be driving most of the way down.

In major panic packing mode, but I do have my dh's Happy 40th Birthday door sign ready. Priorities, right? ;) I really like these Mickey Heads! Thanks to Home Depot! ::yes::

I have to pick up the kids from school in a couple of hours. Last day for them (we will miss tomorrow - the *real* last day) and they are excited!! :hyper:

My ds plans on getting up at 3 am just to see if he can get ice cream. Who told him he can eat what he wants whenever he wants?!

Has everyone finished shopping? I think I have. Oh no, I haven't. My ds still needs sandals!! (gotta keep the shoe thread going  )

See everyone Saturday!! :boat: We will be the family of 4 wandering with that dazed I-can't-believe-we-are-finally-here look. :cloud9:

I haven't been able to sleep through the night for the past three nights! I'm so preoccupied w/the packing, lists, 'let's not forget to' lists, 'let's be sure to pack' lists. On top of all of that, I had to return ANOTHER PAIR OF SHOES! DD's shoes this time though. I made the mistake yesterday of buying her a pair (while she wasn't w/me) that were too big. We returned them this morning, got proper size. We're now finished w/shopping, thank goodness! However, as we were about to pack DH's suit last night, he realized we never took it to the dry cleaners.:earseek: (See why I can't sleep through the night.?) Also took it to cleaners this morning, and will need to pick it up tomorrow before we leave for the airport. I can't wait to arrive at the Hyatt Friday night, as I hope to sleep through the night then! (Who am I kidding? I'll be too excited and Rob's snoring won't help matters. I can't go sleep in the living room this time. . For those of you leaving soon, have a safe trip!:wave2:

Now its just starting to get funny. 47 hours before we sail, and less than 15 before we leave, DH asks me if we've got everything..and can I go by the store on the way home from work and get some of those waterproof lanyards and a can of Fix-a-flat. And can he buy a new swim mask because he wants to carry his snorkel gear instead of renting...

And my mom calls me scratching her head on who she's supposed to leave as an emergency contact when EVERYONE IS GOING ON THE CRUISE. I told her it wouldn't matter anyway, if it was desperate enough they needed an emergency contact it likely wouldn't matter to any of us anyhow.

Finally home but may have to work in the morning. Had to go out to eat tonight. It would be a sin to have to cook the night before vacation starts.

Done packing so I can sit and relax and watch the Hockey game.......GO BOLTS.

Everyone take a deep breath have a drink, get a good nights rest because we are going to have a blast the next 7 days:rockband:

:jumping4: Dave helping Lewis close his suitcase:jumping4:

Can not wait until Saturday!!

I saw on another post that you were having trouble changing excurisions...Did you get that all worked out?

I bet if you promise DCL that you will leave 2 more pairs of shoes at home that they would change it for you.:D

:hyper: Dave, that is too funny:hyper:

Yes, we finally were able to enlist the help of Castaway Club. We're going to take our time on Tuesday and go to Orient beach.

Are you ready? (What a silly question. Who is NOT ready to cruise w/Mickey?)

Less than 48 hours, we'll all be partying on the Big Mickey boat!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

See you all soon!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :jumping1: :thewave:

I hope that some of you with Internet access are going to keep the Land Stranded folks updated with a "LIVE FROM THE MAGIC" thread as we lay in the fetal position, wishing we were on the Magic!!:(

If I did the internet package I would be to tempted to check work email and I really do not want to go there. Besides, I will be too busy sleeping on deck:D
