Maria... I did some research on the Vox IP that I referenced earlier. It's called "Skype" www.skype.com - It looks like if you were travelling with your own laptop or PDA (haven't decided if I'm packing mine or not) and had access to the Internet, it would work. I would highly doubt that DCL will let you download software to install on their public terminals and I don't think there's a web based version of Skype for you to use. My friend loves it for his business use because Skype users talk user to user for free and you can make calls to land lines or cell phones for a very cheap rate.

You might do some investigating to find out if this is possible. As I said earlier, I know our morning show guys were travelling with their own hardware. This might be a different animal though because if I were DCL, I wouldn't want people downloading software. Hope there's a certain amount of help in there for you.

Hi everyone!

smchan - We could bet my 5 MVMCP tickets on the game tomorrow night! Just kidding, I don't have that much faith in my Illini! I hope you find a way to get some tickets. Did you post anything on the boards here?

Jwann - Sorry to here about your mom. I hope she's feeling better. I'm going to get you those questions very soon.

mbuckles - Did you get my PM?

When we picked up our docs today, they said late seating, which is not what we booked (and confirmed that we had in writing from Disney). The TA showed us the fax confirmation dated yesterday from Disney saying no, in fact we were and ARE booked for EARLY seating. she said disney told her they made a mistake and that we should bring the confirmation fax from disney with us in case there is any problem. This makes me somewhat nervous that they will not honor it.

Don't worry cruisenewbie, they try to bend over backwards to accomodate. I'm sure a fax in hand will do the trick. Did they tell you to go to the place where they handle dining room changes when you get on the boat?? If not, check the sheet they give you when you check in at the port. It will tell you where to go. You can pop down there and get the confirmation you want.

Hi everyone! Having traveled to Disney World several times I am sure they will accomodate your dining request if they made a mistake. Can't wait til' next Friday when we will be in Florida finally. It has been a long time planning and the kids are VERY excited. I am not even sure they know how cool this whole experience will be. We shall see................. :Pinkbounc :cool1:

MBUCKLES- I gues the cell companies don't get the question about traveling to an island very often. I was on the phone over twenty min. I said I am going on a cruise and would like to know when we go to the islands if the phone will work or I will be roaming?

She puts me on hold, comes back and says, "While on the cruise I won't get very good reception due to they work on towers and we don;t have towers in the middle of the ocean."

I said, I know that. I wanted to say do I sound like a complete idiot. I must. I think that it is just because people don't listen any more.

Thanks,

Jen

P.S Anyone planning on catching any movies on board? There are three that I want to see. I remeber from my last cruise that they had some movies at 11P. Does anyone know if they will be showing any that late on this cruise? If so that will be good in case my mom wants to turn in early, then I can go see a movie myself. I am sure there will be someone in there watching. Right? Anyone want to make a movie night on one of the late nights with me?

I want to see: National Treasure, The Incrediables, Home On The Range, Raising Helen and I can't remeber anything else I wanted to see.

Let me know.

Jen -

I'm in for a late night National Treasure!!!! We didn't see any movies last time and I told my husband we aren't going to any until we get on board. I would hate to waste time watching a movie with so many other things to do, but late night would be great. The kids will be asleep and my husband can relax a night without me saying...."There's so much to do, we have to get it all in!!!!"

By the way - How's the final coming?

I am almost done with my paper. I hope to be totally complete by Friday night and then I can enjoy the week before the cruise with just a few class presentations.

Good luck finishing!!!

PGOOD and DISNEYFAN37,

Cool let's look to see if we can find out when the movies are playing and get a night. I am going to be in room 2517. So give me a call.

PGOOD- Thanks for asking about the final. It is not going so well. It is taking a lot longer than I thought. I HAVE to be done by Fri by 5p that is when it is due. She will not except ANY late papers. How about for you? Is it going well for you? Where are you going and for what are you going for? PM me and we can chat about school. I would like that.

Thanks,

I hope your Illini have a similar lack of faith! :)

No luck on the tix. I posted to the parks board but the mods immediately deleted my post. I read later than requests to buy or sell MVMCP tix were not allowed. I didn't actually ask to buy tix; I asked for sources other than ebay for tix. Censorship... grrrrr....

Here's to a good, spirited game tomorrow night. :thewave:

I think you should just post a big message whining that you didn't get the tickets and now everyone is mad at you. It's not your fault if someone contacts you with a solution! You don't have to ask for tickets....

My wife doesn't seem too tore up about it, though. She said "well, we'll just visit WDW after the cruise" and reserved a couple nights at CBR. Oh the irony of it - a Caribbean cruise followed by a stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

Jen

 Do you ever notice that when you're talking to a telemarketer (on the rare occassion I feel like talking to one for sport), or a cust svc rep for a company that they do really well until you can work them off of the page? Telemarketers especially... I always try to ask a question that I know they aren't prepared for, just to see how they think on their feet. Like I say, it's kind of like "sport" for me. I guess that's what happened to you. The person you talked to doesn't get that question often (if ever) and they came up with a lame response like "no towers in the middle of the ocean". You should have said "Yes, but won't I be able to use the cell tower that you guys installed on the moon?"

Smchan - We are doing the MVMCP Dec. 10th and spending the 18th through 21st at the BWV. We missed the Osborne Lights last year and I really want to see them in their new location!

I'm home with a sick kid today, so I get to use the day for cruise preparation!
(and I need to figure out what the heck we are going to do at a 4:30 cub scout meeting at my house tonight!)

Now, if I could get my butt away from the computer I could get something productive done.

mbuckles - sometimes my husband likes to answer the phone and speak this weird gibberish language to the telemarketers until they hang up. He has answered like that, assuming it was a telemarketer, and it was really someone wanting to talk to me! Luckily, everyone knows he can be a bit goofy and they didn't even think much of it.

Our morning show guys do a segment called "Dickey Nadmeyer" which is a little like Roy D Mercer, Crank Yankers and Jerky Boys all wrapped up into one. "Dickey" is a Southern gentleman who catches telemarketers in his net and gives them a hard time. It's very funny. They are such easy targets!

The WDW menus were from eguidestogo and they come in a plucker or isilo format. You can download plucker right from the site. A link can be found on Allearsnet. The cruise menus were a bit trickier. I got them from the dcltribute site, but his note says that they are linked directly to DCL. These are in PDF format. I have "documents to go" on my handheld so I just selected all the text, copied it into a word file, and put that on my palm. It really was easy and it didn't take that long. I don't know if I can post the website, but just add the .com If they block it out I can send it to you

I just want to say that we only have one more Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues to go before we depart for our trip. And only two more Thurs, and Fri to go. Doesn't that sound pretty cool when you put it that way? I think it does. My mom used to do that for me when I was little, she would say this is the last Mon before we leave and stuff like that. For the ones with kids and the kids that know they are going of course, have any of you thought of sending them a letter and putting down something like we only have 5 more days until out magical vacation.

When we went two years ago that's what my mom did. When her nieces came to visit last Christmas she sent them letters with the coutdown in them. She would write about all the fun things that we would do. I think that is pretty neat. Kids always love to get their own mail. I know I did and my niece and nephews do.

Just an idea. Have a great second to last Wed before we depart day.

It's getting really close now, pretty exciting. Has everyone gotten docs yet??? I won't get them until we get to port, and I won't know my stateroom # until I get there as well, so it will all be a big surprise.

Is everyone wearing lime green? I didn't get the DIS buttons ordered in time, so I will just have to wear the lime green. I'll be working on our door decorations this weekend!

I'm online all day at work. Not necessarily "goofing", but since we're an Internet Service Provider and Radio company, we're most always in front of a computer of some sort. You'll notice that I'm around more during the day than in the evenings, but I will log on infrequently in the evenings. Angela and I do work together, but she's on one end of the building and I'm on the other. What's funny is that we don't see each other face to face much throughout the day, but there's usually a running dialog of email between our offices.

This week, I've been baiting her with questions. From time to time, I'll say something like "The Smith's invited us to their holiday party on the 14th, did you want to attend that, or should I decline?". hehe Ain't I A Stinka? :jumping4:

I found out from her hairdresser today that last week, she said "I'm scheduling my next appoint for ___ date, but I'm sure if that doesn't work, Mark will work it out with you" haha She knows me too well. So what I'm trying to do is throw enough sly possibilities out there so she can't establish a range. She obviously knows that something is going to happen. I just want her to think that when the party gets here, that's it. I have her schedule, so if something lands on it, I'll be able to call and update it with the person expecting her.

OMG -- The excitement on this thread is palpable!
I have totally checked out. Nothin' matters except for gettin' ready for this vacation. I've been getting some questions for our DIS game. Thanks to those who have sent in. If you haven't it's not too late. Try a simple one like. What is my favorite color, what's my favorite restaurant on the boat, what's my cat's name, etc. See?? Not too hard, huh. You don't even have to tell me the answer!
BTW, We are in rooms 2105 & 2107. I guess we'll have a deck full of DISers. Can I come to the movies, too??

Jwann - Love to have you at movie night....and for that matter anyone else who would like to join in!

I can't concentrate on anything but this cruise!! I haven't started packing, but will after tomorrow. There's so much junk to bring!!

I am going shopping on Friday to buy stuff to fill the kids backpacks with for the trip, though with Hanukkah during the cruise they will be getting gifts anyway. I will buy some junk food for the airplane ride - those cute little candy gadgets that they are never allowed to have.

Speaking of candy.....I went shopping for some to put in their stockings (yes, they are spoiled and celebrate both holidays) anyone into mint flavor, there is a ton of stuff out this year. From mint kisses to mint kitkats (not sure how those would taste so I passed on them) and double chocolate york peppermint patties. It seems the candy choices get better and better!!!

Well now that I talked about candy and swore it off for 2 weeks until the cruise I have to go work out and get my mind off it. :guilty:

Have a great night!!!

Also, anyone else on deck 7... I am thinking this might be where we end up this cruise, cause as of a week ago, I still had CAT 5 GTY.

I won't start packing until next Wednesday probably. I am hoping to really minimize the clothes this year. Also, gotta go on hard-core diet to lose what I know I will gain this cruise! Just thinking of the warm lava cake and creme brulee has had me gain 5 lbs!

We are in #8560 and my parents are in #7063.

I don't think I'm decorating my door. We'll see if the DH is on the ball. Maybe he'll help the kids decorate for my birthday! I told him that in case he had something to put on the door he probably needed magnets instead of tape. Subtle enough? Actually, when we got our docs he was looking at the decorations and I mentioned that he could probably buy some at home and bring them, also. Unfortunately I take care of all the bills and a charge showed up that day from "The Ultimate Party" and I saw it. Now, will he get it into the suitcase?

Hey Smchan - should I be scared of you on this cruise? No hard feelings, huh? I feel guilty for not having more faith in my Illini!

No worries, though, we'll visit post-cruise if I can't do MVMCP. I'll keep checking back with Ticketmaster. I did sign up for email updates per your suggestion. Thaks again for the tip.

I think we ought to put a sign in the hall leading to the forward, starboard section of deck 2 that reads "DIS Members Only". :D (There are at least 3 or 4 rooms we have in that area, right?)

Just wanted to updated everyone... I have pics from Sam and Jwann for the proposed photo collage. I will probably work on this tomorrow if there's additional participation, so if you're interested, just PM me and I'll get started.

You know... as I get older, the days, months and years go faster, faster, faster. That is UNTIL the last two weeks! Argh!

Hi Everyone! I just looked on the VI website and, as of now, we are scheduled to dock in St. Thomas. But, this can change. Last year, we were originally scheduled to dock but actually ended up tendering.

I love all the pictures! I still can't figure out how to post pictures on these threads so I'm really impressed with your technical expertise!

Jwann - I will pm you our questions today. My kids also want to play and they haven't decided on a question yet.

Can't wait.. :jumping1:

Hey all.... went a got a copy of my birth certificate today from the vital records office. It looks pretty pathetic, but I guess its good, cause I got it straight from the State. It's not a raised seal, just says it has the official seal of the state on it, and a watermark of the seal.

I lost my very old copy with a raised seal.. She says now they have these kind printed on the watermark paper because they are harder to forge or alter.

Hope they let me own with it. Called DCL and they said its okay as long as it's a certified copy, not a photo copy.

Oh, and can anyone put up detailed instructions on how you all are posting pictures. I can't for the life of me figure it out!

Check out ebay; lots of MVMCP tix for 12/17. Though the Disney website says sold out, they are still available on Ticketmaster. Capitalism is alive and well! (And someone's buying tickets from Ticketmaster and flipping them on ebay.)

Unfortunately, none are available for the 10th. :(

I'm not a techie but here's how I did it...
When you hit "reply" and your new window comes up, just under the font size and color pull down menu there is a yellow square with a mountain in it. If you click on that it says "Insert Image". Now your picture has to be posted on a website so it has a web "address". For example, I put mine, for free, on Webshots.com and then if you right-click your posted picture and then go to "properties" you will see your pictures web address http:// etc. I just highlight it, press control C for "copy" and then go back to the DIS reply window and press control V for "paste".

My DH has just surprised me with a 12/9 cruise on the Wonder for our 15th wedding anniversary  (DS7 is staying home with Grandma this time). :smooth:

Did you all know that as the Wonder sails back from Castaway Cay on Saturday, it passes the outbound Eastern Magic? Apparently that takes place at about 11:00 p.m. I have seen a picture posted on this board, and I hear it is pretty cool to watch the "two ships pass in the night."

We will be out on deck looking for you as you head out. Have a great cruise  and don't forget to wave.

I need to get a haircut, buy new tennis shoes, buy some new button down shirts, get my photo gear in order, my laptop repaired, the oil changed, buy some underwater cameras, map out my travel plans, find some post-cruise WDW tickets, find my spare eye-glasses, start my photo-journal, hand-off work tasks, put a stop on mail and paper, shake off a few pounds before the cruise, kindly ask my wife to pack less, make night-before hotel reservations, figure out any excursions we might want to take, get some film, visit Home Depot and do the Mickey lime-green paint chip thing, pay the bills before I leave, and ...

Does anyone remember which are the formal/semi-formal nights?

I too am going to HomeDepot this weekend to get the mickey chips.

I got water cameras at Walmart (they had a whole bunch of kinds). They also had coca-cola cameras (not underwater) for only $3+. I bought some of both for the kids.

Thanks for the picture......It is so nice to know in one week it will be us waiting to board!! I am ready. My clothes are ironed, but not packed because my sister is visiting for the weekend and I always put my suitcase on the guest bed.

We are having our own fun today. We are both quilters and I just purchased a long arm quilting machine to finish a queen or king size quilt. It has been a lot of fun for the two of us. One queen and one full quilt done already. We need to go to Walmarts and get a king batting for the last quilt she brought down. Then we can load it and begin quilting.

I never make a list before packing, so I always forgett something small....and you can imagine it probably is something I didn't need anyway.

Kick up the sun so it is warm when we come down. I guess after snow, even 60 will feel good!! :D :D

I think I have most of my clothes as well youngest DD(1)'s packed in my suitcase as well as having most of DS(5)'s clothes packed. I've had my oldest DD(10) try on and put aside all the clothes she wants to take, so later today or early this week I'll put then in her suitcase. All that leaves me to pack is our formal clothes in the garment bag. My sweet DH is on his own in regard to packing his suitcase, though I've told him he better have it packed by Thursday night because I want to have the car packed up with all the suitcases Thursday night. He's running the California International Marathon (26.2 miles) tomorrow morning so he has other things on his mind right now. I'm so proud of him!!! :cheer2:

I still have to go to a Christmas party tonight, marathon tomorrow, plan my son's kindergarten holiday party(that they will have to have without me!!!) as well as all those last minute things that will need to get done.

As excited as I am(I keep telling my family-this time next week...)- when I see all that still needs to be done I find myself stressing. I just might have to treat myself to a spa service or two! :cloud9:

Glad to know I have company out there. I have always found the evenings pleasant on the ships, however, the evenings "inside" of the ship are very cool. The ships always run their air conditioners and particularly at dinner I always take a sweater. Depending on the weather it seems like the upper/outside decks are usually windy more than anything. Taking a swaetshirt is a good plan. Better to be prepared.......  Are you travelling with young ones? Ours are 5(girl) and 7(boy). Both are super excited.

I did this same cruise last year around this time, and at Port Canevaral the first night it was very cool, especially at the deck party, but I believe a cold front had moved thru.. hear it will probably be the same this weekend too. But once we were out at sea, it was warm. The ship is always cool though.

It was also cold the morning we got back, and unfortunately I had adjusted to the warm weather at sea, and packed away my sweatshirt, so I was freezing waiting under the tent for my transportation!

I just printed up "business cards" for my kids to pass out to their new friends from the Oceaneer's Lab. They will come in handy when they want to exchange addresses on the last night. I thought it would be neat to put their picture on it, to help their new friends keep everyone straight, but then we decided it wouldn't be the best idea to have cards with these (incredibly cute, of course!) boys pictures and their addresses and phone numbers floating around! Too bad, though, they were so cool looking!

Hi everyone,

Hope you all are hanging in there with less than a week to go.

Has anyone ever seen Speed2? I saw it for the first time last night...not good one week before a cruise. HA HA LOL. I have a point here..the cruise ship crashes into an island..anyone have any idea of which one....

You guessed it St. Martin. I thought that was SO funny. I saw the sign for St. Martin right before the ship crashed in the movie. I had to tell my mom first thing this morning..I watched it at midnight..so she was sleeping. I had never seen that movie before....

Hope everyone can cope with the excitement this week...Remember just one min at a time and maybe we can contain the excitement just enough to get through til SAT.

I'm about ready. Bought a few new shirts last night and am looking for a new pair of tennis shoes. I usually don't buy this sort of stuff even when I need it, but trips are usually the impetus for my wife to drag me to the store.

I've been worried about more important things - like looking for new photo gear. :) I want to take some panoramas on this cruise - especially at St Thomas.

Any other shutter bugs on this cruise other than me?

Disneyfan37--I know I won't watch it again before we leave. Not that that can happen. You know what I mean. That's like I ended up both times..this cruise and that watching Titantic exactly three months before we left and will leave. Strange. It just happened to be on TV and I started to watch.

I hope everyone is doing well. I can't believe that we will be flying to MCO in five days. It is a little scary to think about. I just keep thinking do we have everything that we need is there anything else that we should get? We are bringing a mesh laundry bad to put our dirty clothes in. Anyone else doing that? I think that we will be a little more organized, this way we can hang it on our door.

Is there anything that anyone is bringing that is out of the oridinary that they think is necessary? Maybe if you mention it then it will get me thinking of other things that we should bring! I mean certain things we are not going to be able to buy on the ship if we forget them or need them.

MBUCKLES--hang in there only five more days til the big SUPRISE!!! YEAH!!!

Talk to everyone later.

Jen-I have seen the Titantic once, and I don't care to see it this week again<G>.5 more days!Lets hope they go by fast!Hope you and everyone else on here have a great flight to MCO.

Something that I will be packing that has helped us on both Disney Wonder cruises is ziploc bags.I have found that if I put ice in the bags, and put the bags full of ice in the refrigerator the refrigerator actually stays cooler.I learned that from someone on the board, and it definitely does work.

Everyone have a great Sunday evening!

Hey Sam... (Or anyone who might have the info)... I'm still debating on "To Laptop Or Not To Laptop", that is the question. I've read posts in some other forums about taking their for picture download to free up memory cards, etc. There are also some other benefits like watching DVD's, etc.

The one issue that could push me over the edge is if there is Wi-Fi access anywhere on the ship. Does anyone know if there is?

Shutters can obviously take photos off a memory card and put on CD for you (for a fee), but if there's Wi-Fi access, that will probably pretty much push me over the edge and travel with it for sure.

I'm taking mine but only because I'll take far more photos that I have space for on my memory cards. I carry 3 gigs worth of CF cards but my camera chews up 10 meg per picture. On my last cruise, I took over 2,000 photos! But that was mostly due to practicing and learning.

Another good reason to carry a laptop - Shutters will make prints from digital memory cards and they are reasonably priced considering it's an onboard service. I will take photos of my dinnermates (if they don't mind), post-process them on my laptop in Photoshop, then have prints made in Shutters. and I'll extend the same offer to my disboard friends as well. :)

There is no onboard, public WiFi access as far as I know.

The family pics you took are very high quality. I could tell that by working with them. It was a pleasure doing so. I have a Canon PowerShot S45 that I use. I'm eating up 5.5 Meg per pic which is good enough for our use. I am only using a 256k Card though, so if I want to shoot any moving video, I'm sure I'll want to get the data off the card ASAP. So, laptop it is! I will probably also stop by Best Buy and grab another card before the trip. Come to think of it, I may already have one in my toybox. Thanks for the info!

There really should be WiFi access onboard. Can someone point the way to the suggestion box on-board? lol

I'll be doing the final edit adjustments tomorrow morning (12/7/04), so if you want in, there's still time. It turned out pretty well and I've had positive feedback from all of you. I'll probably need to shift gears tomorrow morning on some other things. If there is a new version, I'll post it and let you guys know so you can print it out, etc.

I have been asked by one of your fellow cruisers to try and capture some shots of the Magic this Saturday on the Port Cam and Two Palms Cam. Well, if all goes well, I might be catching some "LIVE" shots of the Magic as she sails out of port on Saturday. My mom just bought herself a new car and decided to drive up here (NJ) for the Holidays instead of flying. Since I don't want her traveling from Florida to NJ alone, I will be flying down to Florida either Friday evening or Saturday morning. If I fly in Saturday, we will leave the airport and head over to the port area to watch the Magic leave. Any photos that I take on Saturday, I will post here next week. Here's wishing you all a MAGICal cruise!!! :D

Can anyone help me find a way to WANT to work this week? It is crazy, I feel like doing NOTHING. Anyone else in the same boat?

How does everyone want to decide what night should be movie night? Any suggestions. I think that it would be cool if a lot of us can go, then not only will it be deck 2 for the boards it would be a ton of of at a movie night. LOL.

The morning went by quickly, now the afternoon is dragging. Thankfully I won't be in the office tomorrow. I'll be on the road. It will break my week up. Office Wed and on the road again Thurs. Fri affice then by boss is letting me leave at 2:00p. Help my mom with any last min packing or whatever.

How about an update, What excursions is everyone doing? We are doing the Butterfly Farm and then the Paradise Tram.

We read that if we can't dock at the island then we will have to take a taxi to the Paradise Tram instead of walking. Has anyone been to that island before and have that happen?

By the way is anyone bringing an iron? Or does everyone usually make out okay without one or use the laundryroom one while on board? Just wondering if we could make the room and if it would be necessary!

Thanks,

Jen :flower1:

We tendered in St. Thomas (didn't dock) last year and it really wasn't too bad. It is a taxi ride to the tram but the tender boat drops you off right in downtown Charlotte Amalie so you don't need to take a taxi from the ship to town.

From what I remember, DCL doesn't allow passengers to use irons in their rooms. Of course there's the whole "how would they know" question, but that's another issue. There are irons available for use in all of the laundry rooms. We unpacked right away and took anything that needed ironing to the laundry room Sat afternoon and were done for the cruise.

OK - I'm officially panicking now - less than 2 days!!!

Jen,

I know they don't want cruisers to bring their irons on board because of the danger of fire on a ship at sea.....could be bad like the one a while ago on the Carnival ship leaving Miami. Ships have irons available and are easy to use.

Only a few days left. Soon I can start putting the things into the suitcase.

For those of you who have traveled on the Magic in the past do you know if they supply robes for use in the room? The last two cruises we were on did and it was fantastic. I would hate to take up an more space in the suitcase. I am afraid I am failing in the conservative packing department. :guilty: Oh well, I should be prepared for anything.

LOL, Pam, My kids are going through the same thing! One got a check-mark today at Middle School (for not sitting down) and the other got a warning at Elementary School (for mistakingly walking into the girls bathroom instead of the boys -- when you meet Kevin you'll understand). They are trying to "earn" the privalige of going to the arcade at the boat. Maybe I won't tell Dad....

Also, I have been packing madly today and have come up with some observations....

I feel way to organized. I just know that I am missing something. I wrote out my list yesterday and every night I do a little more.

Tomorrow I am going to spend some time (lunch time, of course! ) on the computer looking up digital cameras. I heard St. Thomas is supposed to be cheaper than here and we need a new camera. I prefer one that writes directly to DVD. Any suggestions?

I have even gone so far as ordered my food shopping to be delivered the Sunday morning we come home. Anyone else have Peapod by them? It's the most amazing thing....order food online and PRESTO!!! it shows up at my house all bagged perfectly (frozen food together, dairy together, etc.) It takes 5 minutes to unpack and I'm done.

I am way ready for this trip....if I don't get out of here soon I will have a melt down!!!

Jwann - I must agree...I used to think we had plenty of suitcases, but this time we need another big one (or two). I have concluded it's because the kids have gotten bigger and their clothes take up more room. Tiny clothes allowed us to get them both in less than a small suitcase, this time I think they took one of the big ones away from us! I keep telling Colin that I need to squish him down so he doesn't get any bigger!!

I really, really want to go to bed, but I'm waiting for laundry to get done so I'm going to tell you my story. (My family is all sleeping and I'm antsy and bored!) There is a group of about 7 of us girls from high school who still try to get together every month or two. One of them wanted to get together for Christmas, but we are all busy and she knew we were leaving soon. I went to a concert for my son tonight and one of the girls was there. She asked if I wasn't going to dinner with everyone and when I asked when she told me tonight! I wasn't invited! I thought maybe they thought I was gone already or just too busy. I didn't notice my phone messages when I got home and listened at about 9:30pm. The friend that planned it was calling me at 7:22 because she was worried that maybe I didn't get her e-mail and maybe I wasn't coming! I changed our e-mail in August (and told her, but...) and I guess she just told people to let her know if we couldn't make it! Her phone message said she hoped I was coming, because I was the guest of honor. While I was busy e-mailing her to tell her what happened my doorbell rang. It was one of the other girls who lives near me, delivering gifts they all brought me! I hope my party was fun! Do you believe I missed my first and probably only 40th birthday party! It was a nice thought, though!

Sorry to ramble on, but I wish that stupid laundry would.... Oh, yeah! My dryer is done. It's buzzing. I can go to bed now!

Jay Leno is on and he just said they raised the price at WDW to $59 now. Your wallet must be this fat to get in! He said that for that price you should get a lap dance from Tinkerbelle! Ha Ha!

Well, I finally got all my clothes together. Of course, I packed my camera bag first. :) 2 SLRs, 5 lenses, 2 flashes, 4 filters, 2 chargers, 3 manuals, 1 laptop, bunches of batteries, a tripod and a partridge in a pear tree. And my new pano head will be here Thursday right before I leave! Bring on the photo ops!

I've got the 200mm lens in the bag just so I can photograph the Coast Gaurd busting Andy as he tries to swim out to the Magic from Jetty Park. (Andy, if you make it, I'll throw you a life ring. And I'll pack an extra coat and tie just in case.)

Sam, you are too funny. Love the idea about trying to swim out to the ship though. I thought of something last night while I was "trying" to fall alseep. I will try and park my mom's car facing the water, so as the Magic sails by I can flash the headlights off and on, then you will know exactly where we are!!! Then just watch for the madman trying to swim to catch the ship!!! LOL!!!

It's time to get ready for work, so I've got to get a move on it!!!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes, but I'm not quite 40 yet! I'm still a young chick (for about 6 more days) I decided St. Maarten would be a great place to celebrate a 40th, don't you think? Since my husband won't turn 40 for two years I can plan a big trip and tell him that I felt guilty since I was in the tropics for my birthday and I want him to get to do the same! What do you think? Good plan?

Happy packing, all! I'll be running to Wal-mart at lunch today.

My parents went on several first class trips - without me! A few times dad did take me to Disney and we stayed close to the main gates - in a Motel 6!

One time, though, I went to Disney World with my cousin and uncle. My uncle had a private business plane (a 10-12 passenger turbo prop) fly us down. Then, after a few days, my uncle decided to go to the Bahamas. He left my cousin and me alone at Disney World with paid-for hotel room. I was 15 at the time and had a blast. :) That was 1982 and EPCOT was just 2 weeks old. Our private plane flew over Disney World with a few circles around EPCOT for an aerial view before landing. :)

To some degree, I agree with my parents' philosophy. My wife and I cruised first on the Wonder then on the Magic to check it out and make sure it was a family friendly environment for our boys. :) This Saturday will mark my boys' first cruise.

What's wrong with this picture? Your husband has a home theater and I don't. *My* home theater with the big screen and projector was taken over by my wife and turned into a CRAFT room of all things. I keep hoping she'll give it back - but so far it's a losing battle.

I'm jealous. :(

Sam
PS Work AND kids... you're no slacker. That's hard work, I'm sure. Find some old underwear - something several sizes too small - to pack for your husband. Or maybe pack a really ugly tie for formal night. Do that one thing and he'll never let you pack alone again. :)

Sam - my question was babbling and hard to follow. It seemed okay late at night when I wrote it! First of all the number 1 team (for this week) is Illinois! I guess the severe beating you took last week caused a little damage upstairs!

Jen & Sam - As I said, my question was worded kind of strange, but the year before last, Bill Self left the Illini to coach at Kansas because he wanted to coach a top of the line team. Right now Illinois is ranked first and Kansas is second! He is a good coach and helped build our team, though. I'm sure he is happy for his boys! And still wants to beat them!

I have to go pick up kids now. Now the whining starts. Me, not the kids. I have to whine to DH to let us leave!

Look for us at the MVMCP if you are going. There will be five of us in the maroon Mickey sweaters from the Disney catalog. Won't we look cute?

Yeah if you could restrain yourself to one or two hundred that would even be good right. I hope that I get some great shots with my new camera. I am SO happy with it. I know I am strange. That is ok. I keep walking around the office and shaking myself at everyone. I just can't keep all of this excitement inside anymore.

pretty soon it will just be us Floridians left waiting on these boards. I'll be leaving bright and early Sat AM to get to port. Will probably be one of the first one's in line since my ride has to drop us off before 10:30am.

Until then, the DIS boards will have to keep me occupied! I should be packing, but procrastinating has taken over!

Hey - no whining from you Floridians. Y'all get the resident discount AND the port is practically in your back yard.

As for me, I have a 630 mile drive tomorrow. :(

See you Saturday.

Bye for now,
Sam
PS I stopped by the camera store (3 stores actually) and picked up a bit more camera gear. I think I'm all set now.

Good luck to all as they travel to Florida. Pack the sweaters, cause the cold front moves in tomorrow, and Saturday is supposed to be chilly ( by Florida standards, highs in the low 60s) Last year it was very chilly during the sail away party, but when I woke up and stepped out on my verandah, it was nice and warm!

So here is to warm, sunny weather and calm seas!

See you all soon, it will just be us Floridian's keeping this thread alive until we set sail!

One more post before I crash tonight... For Andy - I'll be up top on deck 9 or 10 looking for you at the jetty park. If you see a guy pointing a big camera lens at you - that's me. :)

I made it to work, now I just need to get through to 2:00. It helps that part of the system is down so I am getting calls and calling technicians. That makes it go faster!!!

We are all packed and ready to go. I am so excited for warmer weather. You're "cold" 60 degrees is still warmer than our 40. Last time we cruised Orlando had a frost. It was freezing, but the pool was still nice and warm. We'll be swimming tomorrow, no matter what!!

It is very rainy and cold up here. The thought of being in warm weather by tonight is just too good!!!!

Pgood, here in north Florida tomorrow after we leave for the port it won't even get to 60. Now when that happens, most people here feel that's cold!!! I also am at work now. I've got 8 hours and 15 minutes left, but who's counting? :earboy2: Can't wait to get on the ship. Then I can get some sleep. Like everyone else, I am having a hard time sleeping. Just don't know why!!! :smooth:

Can't wait to meet and see everyone!!!!! Away we go.... :moped:

Major crisis! Okay, not major... but a pain in the tushy..

I accidentally cracked my DL! So I have to run by the DMV today and get a new one, yuck! Hope the line is not too long.

Drive safely everyone heading to port today, it is supposed to rain most of Friday, and be cool Saturday. High of 62! I can't wait for the sun of St. Thomas. This time tomorrow I will be pulling into port!
