Disneyfan37,
When we called disney to book and told them what seating that we wanted we also told them that we wanted a table that sdeated only two people. I am sure that you can call them and request a table for two. I would do it before it gets much later. I bet they have people doing seating charts as we speak. Hope this helps. On the last cruise we were near a table that had a DW and DH celebrating their ann, and we were able to talk to them when we wanted to.
Hope this helps.

Rebecca,
I was on two weeks ahead of you, 11/29-12/6. It was very nice, we had one rough sea day though--even the crew were getting sea sick!
If you are going to the parks, make sure you check out the new Stitch attraction, it's great. I just saw a cast preview of it. Also, they are bringing Spectacle of Lights back, and I got to see a sneak-peak of those last night. Since Residential Street is gone to make room for the new Stunt Show, they have all the lights covering the buildings up and down New York Street, in the back of the Studios.
I'm really looking forward to this cruise. This time I'll be more knowledgeable about the ports. I am thinking of doing the Butterfly farm this year, and maybe checking out Coral World.
Wow, less then 40 days left!

Congrats on getting your cruise docs! How exciting!! I'm so jealous!!!
Did you book directly with DCL?
We booked through Costco so I am not expecting our docs for another week or two at the earliest. Besides, I'm still waiting to get my baby girls' passport. We went in to get it a little over a month ago when she turned the big 1 !!! We will probably get both around the same time!!

Jwann -- Jennifer, my nine year old will be 10 on 12/27 so he could be with the 10-12 year olds or the 8-9 year olds. We have an 8 year old and a 12 year old, but he spends most of his time playing with the 8 year old. We will probably keep them together, so they will both get to hang out with your son in the lab. They were in the Oceaneer's Club last time, but they loved it when they got to "storm the lab"! They can't wait to get into that lab! We will be driving through KY on the 9th on our way to WDW. We usually stay around Murfreesboro. We are going to the MVMCP on the 10th. I see that alot of others on this thread are doing the same.
thejenjens -- I think we will go to Palos and celebrate my birthday on a different night, since my birthday is the night of the big Pirate Party. The boys will get a kick out of spending the night with me (yeah, right! I probably won't be able to get them out of the lab!)
Since I work for the Dept. of Transportation, I was given a work holiday for "voting day". It's great. Every even year I'm off and the DH is working and the kids are in school! I voted at 7:30 a.m. and my mom and I headed out cruise shopping! I got some 1/2 price pirate costumes for the boys at Target and lots of cruisewear for me! Time's running out! I even got some Christmas presents. We won't be back in town until the 23rd, so I'd better get it done before we leave!

But I did find a couple of meal vouchers for our trip, so that got me a little excited!

Wow that is the greatest news I think I have heard today. I can't believe that you got your docs.
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
That means that the rest of us should be looking in the mail more closely. To find OUR docs as well. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!
I was on the web and I looked up Coral World. It only costs $18 to go thru them directly instead of the $39 thru Disney. I was wondering if anyone has an opinion to book thru Disney and spend the money or to go directly thru Coral World. Would the taxi cost out way the cost of the difference of Disney? I think that Disneyfan37 is doing Coral World on her own. Right? If you are how are you getting there? Can you please let me know and then let me know how to convince my mom into saving the money and booking on our own.
Thanks for all of everyone's help.
I did not know when pirate night was! Anyone else dressing up? pirate:
And again CONGRATS Squiggle on your docs.

thejenjens-Yes,we are going to Coral World on our own as DH is doing snuba thru them, and Disney doesn't offer the snuba .Coral World is also included in the snuba thing dh is doing.I read online here that the taxi ride there will be about 7 a person. We will be going over there around 8 to 8:30 that morning. We also are going to go to the guavaberry place at St Maarten, but from what I heard that is walking distance from the port there. No,I won't be dressing up for pirate night. We may check out the casinos there, but I doubt it as I haven't read too many good things about them on here.I also talked to my friend who has been to St Maarten, and she told me don't bother there as they are way smaller then even MS.
Come on Docs!I am so happy that you got your Fran!

We too are doing Coral World on our own. Right after that we are renting snorkling equipment and going right off the beach. I think it's the Coki Beach Dive Club that has the equipment.
I found on the last cruise that it was much cheaper doing things on our own and very easy.
What is everyone doing on St. Maarten (those that aren't taking a Disney excursion)? We have nothing planned there yet.
I just sent my husband down to check the front door.......nothing yet , but it's got to come soon!!!!!!!

Sam, we booked a cat. 10 adjoining room with my dsis last Oct. (2003) when we were on the Wonder. No upgrade. Perhaps the adjoining part kept us from getting an upgrade?
Jen, if you go to one of the websites that has navigators for the 7-day Eastern Magic, then you see what the lunch offerings are each day. Go to the last page of each day's navigator and look under "DIning Options", I think. The first 2 sea days have an italian buffet and an asian buffet at lunch time.

jwann-Thanks for the site for Coral World. I had forgotten about it.I went ahead and printed out my coupon for my ticket as dh doesn't need one as his is free due to snuba with them.I think there is enough to do at Coral World that I won't have any problems entertaining myself<G>.I am so ready for the rainforest lounger!By the way,we are still playing the cd you sent us.DH did finally make some copies of it.The dckids loved their cruise, and they still just want the cruise music.I can't thank you enough!
No docs here yet.We keep seeing the ups truck down our street, but he keeps passing us.We haven't gotten an upgrade yet on any of our past cruises, and I doubt we will.We are in a category nine room, and personally we have the perfect spot for our cabin.
We will also being doing brunch at Palo's.We hope to be able to get a ressie for one of the sea days as well.
Everyone have a great Friday!

All this talk about brunch at Palo's has inspired me to workout more...so keep it up!!! The last seven day cruise we went on I gained a pound a day, even with all of the walking we did! So, my plan is to try and lose seven pounds before the cruise and that way when it is all over, I'll be right where I am now!:flower:
Crazy logic...but I did get up this morning and walk at 5:30am...ummmm I can taste the shrimp and crab already!
Have a great day everyone!

I have the same philosphy.. on my last 7 day, my clothes started to feel a little tight by the end of the cruise, so this time I have to make sure they are "loose" so I can grow into them this time :teeth: .
What is everyone doing on St. Marteen? I have pretty much figured out St. Thomas... either going to do Coral World/Coki Beach on our own, or do the Cable Car/Summit thing on our own.
Still haven't figured out St. Marteen though. I am thinking nonbeach since there is only so much sun exposure I should have, and I want to save that for Castaway!

Hello all,
I just stumbled upon this site in my search for information about our cruise Dec 11 Eastern Carribean. We are so excited about going away, this will be our first ever family trip. My two kids are 6(son) and 3(daughter). I'm hoping the weather will be warm enough. We live in Ontario Canada, and it is starting to get cold here. By December we will be in winter. We just booked our cruise last month, and because of this we ended up with late seating for dinner. I'm still trying to figure out how we will do this. I'm sure it will be too late for my daughter, she usually goes to bed by 8:00. My son, may be able to stay up for a couple of the dinners, but certainly not all. Does anyone else have a similar dilemma? I know I can use the kids program, but I'm not sure how they will take to it especially when they are tired at night. Do they actually get the kids to go to sleep? I would just hate to ruin the trip because they are so tired, yet at the same time, I'm really looking forward to the dinners and don't want to miss them myself.

Welcome 2kidsnow :wave2:
You will love the Disney cruise! Have you cruised before? We went on our first cruise last December, and just had to go again. The weather was very warm on our cruise last year. We swam at both St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Our CC day was a bit cooler, in the 70's and windy. But there were a lot of non-water things to do.
Don't give up on getting early dining. Are you waitlisted for early dining? If not, call whoever you booked with and asked to be put on the list. Last year, we were waitlisted and found out when we checked in at the port that we had early dining. I've also read about people being able to change their dining time after they board the ship.
Yes, kids can and do go to sleep in the clubs. At night, mats are put out and movies played for the kids that want to wind down.

Disneyfan37 when were you and DH on the cruise two years ago? That's when mom and I took our first cruise. On the wonder. We just got back from K-Mart and I found a very nice Mickey backpack for only 4.50. YEAH! That will be a great little bag to take on the plane. We did not get our docs yet however we did get a package from the Disney catalog that we ordered from. That is almost just as good. The more disney stuff the merrier. Also we went to Hallmark today and I bought 5 more Disney ornaments. We are going to do one whole tree in Disney.

Xmas on the ship is great... this will be the 3rd time I cruise DCL during the holidays. The decorations and the tree are great, and I love the extra holiday activities, like the story telling and the characters in xmas clothes and the xmas caroling.. and especially making the gingerbread house with your family, its so much fun... and yummy too!
wow, just think of where we will be 5 weeks from today! I can almost taste the creme brulee!

That sounds so neat. I did not know that we can make a gingerbread house. And I too LOVE the creme brulee. I can;t wait for that. We went on the wonder two years ago for the first time ever cruising and I tried the creme brulee for the first time ever and LOVED it. I can't wait. Just think five weeks from today at this time we will already have had one dinner, one breakfast, and two lunches on the ship. Can you all believe it?
I also did not realize how much they decorated for X-Mas. I can;t wait. We are doing one whole tree in disney ornaments. I wonder if it can even compare to the tree on the ship. I got about 5 new ornaments yesterday and that makes about nine new ornaments for this year alone. It makes me want to decorate for x-mas already. I know I sound .
Hope everyone has a great week.

Disneyfan37 - Which soaps do you watch? I'm an All My Children girl from back in the days of Greg & Jenny. Walt Willey (Jackson Montgomery) is from my little home town here. I saw him about 16 years ago when we were both home for class reunions (He's 10 years older than me) He had just joined the cast then, and everyone was checking him out! It was the big event of the summer! We happen to be at Disney for Super Soap in 2001. It was fun, but I felt guilty dragging my 9, 7 and 5 year old boys around to see the soap stars. It was really hot and they were bored! Someday I'd like to get back down there.

I love him too! I read in a magazine that he has a degree in Civil Engineering and I'm a Civil Engineer! It's the big joke in my family (yes, even with my husband!) that we are destined to be together and talk about asphalt and stuff! I didn't wait in the HUGE line to meet him at Super Soap, but my sweet husband got some good video and I got some good pictures. (It's almost like the DH doesn't feel threatened. Does not believe he will come to the midwest and steal me away?) Anyway, the next Spring he actually came to another small town 15 minutes from here to open a Sears store! I decided that I had to go meet him.
We actually did talk a little engineering talk, but he must not have fallen in love at first sight! That summer he got married and now he has a kid! Oh well, Josh Duhamel is still single!!!
p.s. I never saw any students that looked like Cameron in my classes!

disneygatorfan-Yes,there are a lot of cute ones coming to soap weekend this weekend at MGM.I love Tad Martin.

I'm an ABC fan, too! A few years ago Cameron signed my Supersoap weekend t-shirt...while I was wearing it...and I almost fainted. :faint: I never thought I would get that crazy around a celebrity. My sister had been in love with Tad (Michael Knight) since she was old enough to watch tv. He gave her a huge kiss! She hasn't been the same since! :lovestruc I am going for the second time this year, and I can't wait! My husband has free tickets, so he decided he was going to join me. (he said I had to have a chaperone to see "my boyfriend'!) I guess I should mention that I kept the picure of Cameron and I on my desk at work for over a year!!
Now that I have given you a crazed image of myself I think I should go!!
Have a good night all! ::yes::

Don't worry about me thinking you are crazy. I thought you guys would think I was dillusional after my post! Even the DH refers to Cameron as my "fiance" We were eating at Cape May Cafe during 2001 Super Soap and my sister ran into Catherine Hickland in the bathroom. She and Michael were with a bunch of others in a private dining room down the hall. You may want to check it out. I'm watching Las Vegas right now and I do miss Leo on the AMC! He has really grown on me! At least I can watch him on Mondays. This whole baby thing is getting a little old! Let's get it over with already!::yes::

TraSee and DisneyFam5-I will admit it too I am a crazy soap fanatic.I love Tad Martin.I have always loved his character way back when he was with Dottie on AMC.I took a picture of him and her at a mall in my hometown.I should take that photo and have him autograph that for me.My dh is staying home.I tried to convince him,but there is no convincing.Yes,I am tired of the baby swap.I will make sure to tell Bianca this weekend<G>.
We are doing the St Maarten tour with Disney, but other then that we aren't sure what we are going to do besides the guavaberry place and shopping.I hope these two are right by the port. There is so much I want to do especially in St Thomas, but time is definitely a factor.
The rainforest pass for the week has gone up to 75 dollars now.I just read that on here somewhere from someone that just returned.I am still going in there.I can't wait to relax on one of the lounge chairs.
Everyone have a great Tuesday!

My mom loves to watch the abc soaps as well. She is into All my children a lot right now. I myself love GH. Have been since I was little same as my mom. I would love to be able to take my my to soaps weekend one day. Is soap weekend the same time every year? Maybe we can go next year if I know in enough time to make the arrangements. And get the time off of work.
STILL waiting for those DOCS. Hurry! Hurry! Come on and get here already. HA! HA!

Hello! Our family will be joining everyone on this wonderful vacation!
We are Husband 34, Wife(me) 33, Son 8, and daughter 3.
I am so excited I can hardly stand to talk about it and my daughter just squeals everytime we see a pix of the boat. We are from central Virginia and starting to feel the cold, 28 degrees this morning! This is our first cruise, really our first trip to any exotic island, so I am just overwhelmed and blown away with the thought that it is just around the corner.
If there is someone else on this thread that has a 3 year old daughter and would like to exchange emails so the girls maybe can send some pictures and notes to one another, please PM me! My daughter was so thrilled to be going to the club and playing, but she broke her arm pretty badly this fall, ofcourse while "mom" was not home, and now she is very attached to me. She is still looking forward to going on vacation, but very hesitant to even talk about playing in the club without me.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and hearing everyone's stories!

We booked through a travel agent and our docs came to the agency. My dil picked them up Monday. It was so nice to be reading all the info. I even read the contract!! which goes to show how excited I feel about this trip. It was pretty wierd, but I guess that is how most legal stuff reads.

I just found out that we (my mom and I)may not get our docs until even a week before the cruise. SAD! :( I hope that it does not take that long to get them. Let's all put that Pixie Dust to work so that everyone gets their docs really soon. They said that usually they don't get sent until two weeks out. That's not for another two weeks.
The reason is is because we have a granteed room. They have no idea which stateroom we will be in. O well. My mom and I have a motto....At Least We'll Be On The Ship!!!!! Right? I kinda don't care where we are as long as we are on the ship. However I wish those docs would get here. HA HA

I've stayed on Deck 2 twice. Loved the location, its super easy to get on and off at port, since the gangways are located on Deck 1, you can just take the stairs, don't have to wait for an elevator. Also, supereasy to get to the dining rooms, since two are on deck 3... as well as all the evening Adult activities.
One time my room was right under wavebands, the night club, and you could hear the music a little. Nothing loud or unbearable.. but just a FYI. Some say you can hear more engine noise, but it's never anything very noticable. I'd personally would always want deck 1 or 2 if I wasn't booking a stateroom with a verandah, simply because of the location.

Hello All! Wanted to our introduce ourselves. :wave2: Mark (33) and Angela (29 & Counting) from KY. We'll be on-board The Disney Magic on 12/11/04 for the cruise.
I have emailed the roll call information to Tracy, but wanted to also post and say hello to everyone. This cruise will be a special surprise 30th Birthday Gift for Angela, who will celebrate her birthday with all of you on 12/13/04. The evening before our cruise, I'm throwing a surprise dinner party at Morton's Of Chicago for about 30 guests. It's during that party that the birthday girl will find out about our trip complete with birthday cake in the shape and design of The Disney Magic.
If it isn't too much trouble, or any of you feel compelled, any Happy Birthday greetings you may have for Angela, if you were to PM them to me, I will print them out and present them to her during the dinner party. She will get a major kick out of it to hear from all her soon to be cruisers, giving her a birthday note. I know everyone is busy, but thanks in advance for any trouble that you go to. She doesn't frequent this board, and the trip is a surprise, so I don't believe I'm giving away any state secrets in this post ;) I look forward to seeing and meeting you all!

Oh thank you so much! She will get such a big kick out of it. I must tell you that planning this gift has been so much fun. Sometime, when we have more time, I'll have to share with all you the journey that my DW has to go on leading up to her surprise party. The details are quite lengthy and I don't want to bore anyone. Let's just say that her morning starts with a wake-up call from Mickey Mouse :)

Well, I try really hard! lol - At our house, we've always tried to be sensible when it comes to Christmas and Anniversaries because when one spouse goes "over the top", you can pretty much count on every dollar you spend on the other is X2. So we long ago called a truce so that we wouldn't end up in the proverbial poorhouse. But now birthdays.. that's a whole 'nother can of kraut! Skies the limit. In fact, it turns into this fun little Cat and Mouse game (or, in this case, Mickey and Minnie.. hey, if the shoe fits) of one upsmanship. I've even got a 40th birthday trump card up my sleeve. Oh, Who am I kidding? I won't wait until 40.. it'll be 31! :)
Jenn... Just on the extremely outside chance that someone in my near geographic proximity is browsing these boards, I'll PM you our exact location. It's a small world these days! (Someone really should have written a song utilizing those lyrics) - With all my planning, I can't risk listing an exact location because my cover might be blown. Check your PM shortly.

Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. Jenn, Maria, Tracy and Michele... I received your PM's. That was too nice of you all. I can't wait to see the look on her face when she reads them.
Yes Michele... You completed the PM perfectly. You may be a newbie, but it certainly doesn't show! - I will scout out for an Ariel Costume. Of course, I'm a little partial to the NFL Referree Costume that she surprised me with Halloween weekend. Let's just say that my NFL referee didn't look like the ones I see on TV on Sunday afternoons! lol - She did throw a few flag on me, but luckily, none of them were for "illegal procedure" ;)
Will someone here be creating a summary of the high spots a couple of days before cruising? There are so many great posts in this thread that it's a little hard to get through them all and cull the information you need. So our own DIS Navigator for members of this thread might be helpful. I'm having trouble getting caught up on meet times, I saw some reference to buttons and/or shirts and now something involving a door. I'm lost! ha I would be glad to help out in getting this done, but I'm not sure I'm the most qualified as a newbie. If I can be of assistance though, let me know.

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well. Jeepers no one is really on the boards lately. I guess the closer it gets the busier we will all be. I mean getting ready for the cruise in 25 days. And then Christmas in 32 days.
Anyone done shopping? I am just about done. Meaning that I have maybe five people left to shop for. That is a record for me. Now the hard part is wrapping them. I do not like to wrap at all. I don't take after my mom, she LOVES to wrap. Bows, ribbons and all.
Well, hope everyone is getting as excited as well are for the time to keep sailing by until Dec 11th. Can't wait.

Michele,
Don't cry, they will come soon! Have you called Disney to see if they have been sent out yet? Try that and that might give you some more hope. I'll send you some Pixie Dust to help.

Pixie Dust for Michele's docsprincess:
Jen- I'm getting close to being done shopping as well. I printed my address labels and Christmas letter for our cards this weekend. We are planning on purchasing the Shutter's photo Christmas cards so all I'll have to do is slap an address label on the envelope, sign the card, and stick in our family's annual letter! I WILL have all my Christmas presents out in the mail BEFORE our cruise. I want to really be able to relax on the boat and for the week before Christmas.
I'm sitting here doing some "work" on the computer and a Travel Channel show on the "Raidance of the Sea" cruise ship is on. I just keep thinkin' "That ain't no boat!!"
Can't wait to meet everyone!

Jennifer and Jen I am very jealous that you are so organized regarding your shopping. I hope to get some of it done before we leave, but frequently I am a last minute shopper. I have been known to be out on Christmas Eve afternoon!! I have to figure out what to get my Mom.....she is my most difficult one. She needs nothing so I always feel like I am just spending money to spend money. I usually get her a gift certificate so she can buy something she can use. She lives in Florida in the winter and TN in the summer. This is always a dilemma.
The grandkids are usually easy because they want everything!!!
Time is really going by quickly, 2 birthdays this week, then Thanksgiving week and then we are into December! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the pixie dust! I called DVC and they checked for me. They were told that my docs were processed, but had no mail date. I should get them next week, but with the holiday it may be later! They said if I check Friday they might have a mail date. My parents booked through a travel agent and they haven't gotten theirs yet either!
I worked on christmas cards this weekend too. I'm using a picture of all three boys ready to dig into a Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Creme! It's a cute picture. I also have the majority of my shopping done. We aren't getting back into town until the 23rd, and Christmas Eve will be at our house! We just do snacks and stuff, so it should be okay. I not only have Christmas to worry about, we have DS turning 12 on the 5th and a DS turning 10 on the 27th! I plan to shop on the ship for my birthday so the DH is getting off very easy!
It seemed to go from "way too early to start getting ready" to "Oh my gosh! I'd better get moving quick!" instantly! How did that happen? So much to do, so little time...

Now I'm really jealous!!!! I called on Monday and am also processed, but without a mail date.
I can't wait to get the docs so it seems more real.
Have all the gifts ready to go. We celebrate both holidays, so we are doing 4 days of Hanukkah on the ship. That meant small items because we had to bring them there and back (plus 4 from my parents), though they are getting a video game card for one of the nights and are allowed to go to the shops onboard for another night.
Lots of preparation but it makes the time go by much faster!

Any word yet on a Dis Meet??
It's getting VERY close now :)
Also, anyone know stateroom numbers yet? I won't know mine until we get there, all I know is we have a verandah somewhere.. so far shows us sailing CAT 5 GTY, which means deck 7, never stayed there before. Also hoping for a plexi verandah this time, last time we had the metal one. Don't get me wrong, it was SOOOO incredibly nice having a verandah, we got so spoiled... don't think I can sail without one now. I just wanna be able to sit and see the ocean, although the big metal verandah was super nice, there was so much room on it.
Anyway, hope everyone has a great FRIDAY, and a great weekend.

Yes, the Bahama Immigration form is filled out at the terminal, but not too complicated.
Finally I started some Christmas shopping, I realized Christmas is sneaking up on me while I dream of the cruise. Time will be short when we return home all relaxed. I don't want to then get hectic with shopping after all of the spa time and just lying watching the water roll by.

I thought it might be time to get this DIS Game started.
Disclaimer - My group is a game-playin' type. We love scavenger hunts, board-games, etc. I understand that not everyone is. Therefore, participation in this game is purely optional. I would suggest, however, that all who are going from this thread supply a question so that us game-playin' types can meet you. Finally, I am no expert on gaming (borderline expert on poker-slots but that's another story) and while I have thought out as many rules and scenarios as possible, there could be a snaffoo and the game could flop, who knows. But if you are willing to take a chance....read on...
THE DECEMBER 11th EASTERN MAGIC CRUISE DIS GAME
Object: To personally meet all the DIS members who are on board our cruise. Beginning with a list of questions about the DIS members, find as many DIS people on the cruise and write the answer to their personal question. Be the first one to turn in a complete list of correct "answers" to room #2107 and you will win a Disney Criuse Pin (purchased by jwann who will be asking questions but is not eligible to win the prize).
Rules:
1. PM jwann or email jwann@murray-ky.net with the following information:
DIS name, real first name, question that someone would have to ask you to find out the answer. ("What color is jwann's hair" is not a good question but "What was jwann's nickname in highschool" is a good one) Be creative on these questions and answers!!
DHs an DWs can play too. For DIS name just put "jwann's dh, Dan" for example.
2. On December the 6th, I will post a list of the questions. Please copy and paste the questions onto a blank page and print it out.
3. Once you have reached the port, you can begin asking questions. For example, you may NOT PM one another and ask questions BUT you can ask questions ince you have reached the parking lot of the port.
4. Everyone (even if you are not playing the game) try to wear a DIS button (purchased from the DIS website), a DIS t-shirt, or even just a lime green shirt on the first day of the cruise. Of course, I am NOT the fashion police but it would be nice if we could spot one another. Also, another way to identify yourself as a DIS member is to decorate your door in some fashion. We are going to have a DIS party on deck 10 right after the safety drill and before the Sail Away Party. This would be a good chance to meet everyone.
5. Typically, not all DIS folks can make it to the DIS meet so I anticipate that this game will take most of the cruise until we have a winner. Please don't ask someone else for "Maria's" answer, just go to the rainforest room and ask her (lol). You CAN ask others for how to find another DIS member. For example, my dsis (jhorner) might be too busy boogying-down to come up and meet everyone. BUT if you meet me and spot me later on during the cruise you can say, "hey Jennifer, where is your sister??" or "hey Jennifer, what room is Fran in...", etc. Of course you could stand up in the middle of the Walt Disney Theater and yell, "Is anyone in here SAMCHAN???"
6. When you have your completed list, bring it to my room #2107 and slip it under the door or clip it under the fish. Please sign your name and room number on the back of your list. I will personally call each person to let them know what "place" they came in. (If anyone wants to donate a prize, we might have prizes for second and third place).

Are you guys wearing your buttons to the MVMCP? Do I still have time to order buttons or will I have to make them? My DH is going to play and maybe my mom. Are kids playing the game?
The DH love playing games. We play trivia here a lot! We went to a trivia night last week and the first category was Mousellaneous! Needless to say, we did very well! Maybe I'll have to bring some games to challenge someone by the pool. Anyone game?

Michele... You're cruising in 3 weeks.. You're actually begging for boredom? lol
Her day starts with a wake up call (day before departure) from Mickey Mouse. Mickey gives her instructions on what to wear for the day, tells her that her schedule at work has been cleared for the day and that he will call her again at 7:30am. (The time she normally leaves the house).
At 7:30am, Mickey calls again and tells her that he has a Magical Journey planned for her and gives her clues to find a certain person. That call is the first in a series of calls that gives her clues to find certain people throughout the day.
Over the past 3 weeks, in my spare time, I purchased and have worked the 1000 piece Mickey Mouse photomosaic puzzle (have you guys actually ever worked that? Oh My, It's a Chore!) - Anyway, because she would never be able to work that puzzle in a single day, I worked it, then used puzzle glue to put larger sections of it together. Then I flipped the puzzle over and wrote a special love note from Mickey to Minnie. Then I disassembled the puzzle in about 12 smaller segments. On her scavenger hunt, each person she encounters will have a wrapped birthday gift (all are various Christopher Radko Blown Glass Disney ornaments, which she collects). Each person also has an envelope containing a section of the puzzle. Her destinations throughout the day include the restaurant where we shared our first date. Her mother, my mother. She'll be having lunch with our daughter's classroom at school where our DD will have a gift and puzzle segment for her.
After each stop, she gets another call from Mickey giving her the next destination. At the end of the stops, she gets a last call that tells her that "I thought a beautiful lady like you needed a picture of me. Go home and put my picture together. Oh, and don't forget to look at my backside".
The message to Minnie on back of the puzzle gives her instructions on what to do to prepare for departure. At this point, she still won't know anything about the Cruise. It just tells her that "At 5:45pm, A Carriage & Driver Will Arrive For You. Wear the outfit I've layed out for you and take everything left out for you. You will be gone overnight".
Bored yet? haha

As soon as she departs for the day, that's when my "plan of action" goes into full steam. I need her to be gone for several hours so that I can pack. I've spent quite a bit of time making lists, putting together outfits, trying to anticipate every need she might have while we're gone. I've done a "last minute" trip as a surprise for her before, but in that case, she had a couple of hours before departure to get anything I may have overlooked to throw in the luggage and go. This will be a little more challenging because she literally won't know that she'll be gone for a week until it's too late to grab anything last minute. I guess my margin for error here is pretty narrow, but I know my wife, so I'm pretty confident. I've even bought new books that she's been eyeing so that she'll have things to read. But when she finally leaves the house on 12/10, that's my chance to get everything together and get it out of the house and off to the hotel. We have a 7am flight on Saturday, so we're staying near the airport and near the location of the surprise party. I can't move anything she currently owns before she leaves or she'll notice that it's missing. Needless to say, the hours after she leaves will be fast and furious for me.
As for getting her off of work, that's actually the easy part. We own a media company that owns radio stations and internet properties, and we work together. So I have access to her calendar and know what needs to be delegated and what can be pushed back. Not to mention that by the 2nd week of December, our year is pretty much over. We're already in transition mode to 2005 starting the first week of Dec.
If any of you have spotted holes in my plan, or you have any guidance, feel free to PM me. I'm pretty confident that I've not overlooked anything, but you won't be overstepping your boundaries if you want to PM me with anything. You ladies will appreciate the wardrobe challenges. It's hard enough to solve those issues for yourself, let alone someone else trying to do it for you. Like the question of... "Do we go with the adhesive or strapless version?" I guess I've got a 50/50 chance of getting it right! lol - I'm taking some of her new clothes off to the seamstress today. I'm snuck some of the clothing out of her closet this morning so that they can be used to fit some of the new stuff.

I just noticed that I failed to answer Jen's question. The "how will she find out" one. I'm going to wrap up the box that the travel docs came in. I thought the little mini-suitcase was neat. I'll wrap it up and have the Group Sales Coordinator at Morton's present it to her right after dinner, right before the cake. I'm hoping that the party will be in full swing enough that if someone quietly presents her with a gift, she'll just think it's from the restaurant instead of the other shoe dropping, so to speak.

How many DH's are going the "Rented Tux" route for formal night? Personally, I'm good on suits/ties that are fairly formal, so I had steered clear of it, but after the Travel Docs showed up and there was the brochure for the rental, I started having second thoughts. I can see some benefits to it, mainly convenience, but I'm a little indifferent to it.
Anyone else have a strategy and care to share it?
Disneyfan37
11-22-2004, 02:38 PM
mbuckles, This is DH of Disneyfan37. I bought a tux off of eBay instead of renting. Our thinking was if we go again, no when we go again, I will already have one and won't have to rent. I have worn a tux only twice in my life. So I am taking advantage of the situation. I figure, why not. Only rent a tux if you feel comfortable, not because you feel pressured.
BTW, the surprising your wife plan is awesome. I surprised my wife about 5 years ago with a plane trip to Minnesota right after Christmas. However, I had to spill the beans before we left. She would have known anyway. I'm sure we all will want to know how it went.

Thanks for your input on the tux. Part of my deliberation is trying to anticipate what she would want. She has several things she owns that says she doesn't have anyplace to wear. So trying to imagine if she'd prefer I go the extra distance is a question mark.
As for finding out how it went, I'm hoping each of you have an opportunity to ask her yourself :) Thanks for your kind words.

You may be on a couple of hit lists! It sounds like a very fun day (& week) you have planned. I'm a little jealous and depressed, now! I think I'll get over that as soon as I get to the MVMCP on the 10th.

Oh no! :) - It's certainly not my intent to make anyone look bad. All of you have been such a big help to me. It's very therapeutic to be able to discuss the upcoming cruise with fellow cruisers. If it weren't for all of you all, I'd be going crazy because I've had to be so tight lipped with family, friends, etc. I've shared very little with any of them because one inadvertent slip of the tongue and the cat is out of the proverbial bag. So you all are very important to me. Thanks for letting me share.

Hey Sam... Are we going to have to arm wrestle to see whether we get to watch the MNF Titans -vs- Chiefs game, or the basketball game? :) The UK-vs-Indiana and UK-vs-Louisville game happen on the 11th and 18th respectively, so I should be able to catch those games somewhere.
As for packing your lucky sweatshirt... That's the beauty of me getting to do all the packing. DW's Tennessee Titans jersey WILL end up in the suitcase (along with mine) ;)

Well, I'll be sending Pixie Dust for everyone to get their docs and also for the party to go off without a hitch.

Oddly enough, on the wall opposite my desk in my office, as I type, I'm staring at a framed newpaper banner and layout from April 2, 1996 that says "UK 76 - Syracuse 67" ;) (Sorry, I had to do it) - Did you just take your pixie dust back? lol
I'm a part time Temple fan myself. A young man named Chris Gaither, who we've sort of taken under our wing when needed played at Temple for a couple of seasons. He's from our hometown. I had an opportunity to meet Coach Chaney on a couple of occassions. He's a legend, and I always enjoyed my conversations with him.

Thanks. HA! HA! No you can still have my Pixie Dust. My boyfriend lived down the street from the basketball coah for years. His dad used to go to every practice that they had..I mean basketball and football. When they went to the first game one year his dad said look at this kid is from such and such and is however tall...and gave him all the stats of almost every player.
We were so happy last year when they won the champs. You can have your 96 however we have 03..LOL
Maybe we'll be their again this year fighting it out for the champs. We'll see.

Smchan, you've made a quick alliance with my dh. Though we are misplaced Kansans here in Kentucky we are NOT UK fans. But we ARE Chiefs fans! My dh is already planning on catching some of the Monday Night Football game on the boat!
Also, re: the "Ron Artest" basketball melee. Should any of you hear on the radio, see on TV, or read in the newspaper about a certain Sport Psychologist from Murray State University who studies fan behavior, THAT'S MY DH! Hey Everyone,
I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving. I want our cruise top get here, however I don't want to rush these next four days off either. Plus I need them to get my Final finished.
I hope everyone stays safe. I will probably be checking the boards a lot again today. Who wants to work again. Not me. LOL!!! Well I will chat with everyone later.
I can't wait to find out what our dinner rotation will be and how many people we will sit with. I found out that you can request a table for two, however it is only a request. My aunt just went in Oct and they requested one with two and got a table for ten. No big deal. I think that my mom can muddle through a few dinners with other people that she does not know. I hope. Any opinions on this matter. Or help with how it is to dine with people you have never meet before?
Thanks for everyone's help.

Happy (First Snow) Thanksgiving To Everyone!!
We are really having a snowstorm for our first snow in Michigan as well. We are forecast to have 4-6 inches tonight as well. There have been many accidents and a plane skidded off the runway here in Lansing. Ugh!! I sure am glad I am not driving anywhere tonight. It is supposed to quit by morning. This kind of weather makes me want our cruise to sunshine come even faster. Ugh I hate winter and snow. I don't mind the cold as much as the snow. It is the pits to drive when it is icy.

I saw that! Wake has to take care of Arizona tonight, first. If Wake can take care of 'zona and Illinois in the same week, I'll feel a lot better about their #1 ranking.

I just ran into my first bit of Stormy Weather for the "Big Surprise" - I missed the Thread that said there would be a board upgrade this weekend and that PM's would be cut back to 7 Days. Er go, all the PM's that you all were kind enough to send to Angela are gone. I deliberately didn't print them out sooner than I had to because if they were in print, there's an increased chance they'd be discovered. It's my fault. I wasn't paying enough attention. Just wanted those of you who went out of your way to send birthday wishes to her, she won't receive them. I'm not about to ask anyone to take the time to "do over", but should anyone choose to, I'll make sure this doesn't happen again! :)

Here's a Newbie Question... On the inside flap of the travel documents, it refers to "Fill Out Bahamas Immigration Form". Even though our destinations are in the US Virgin Islands, The Magic's registry is actually the Bahamas, right? Do we fill that out for the Eastern Itinerary? If so, is it available online in advance? I spent some time today filling out all the forms in the travel docs, so I was trying to get as many things done in advance as possible to maybe save a little time when we arrive at Port.
Advice?
Villaness

I think the Bahamaian immigration form needs to be filled out because we are going to Castaway Cay which is part of the Bahamas. I have never had this form to fill out until I have arrived at the port. It would be nice to fill out in advance, but we have never received in advance. It is short and doesn't take long to fill out. Especially as early as we plan to arrive (lol) :earboy2: . It will give us something to do while we are waiting!!!

Just got back last night from our Thankgiving break and found our cruise docs waiting for us- what a magical sight!! :cloud9:
When I looked over the documents to check our names (which, thankfully, were correct), I noticed that the seating was listed as MAIN, which if I remember correctly is th 6pm seating. ????? CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS?? We were suppose to be late seating because of the whole time change from the west coast thing so I was a little surprised. Oh well, I'm a big believer that God works in mysterious ways and maybe there is some reason we were switched.
TraSee - sorry it looks like we might need to change the information for our seating in the roll call list!!

Congrats to everyone who has gotten thier docs.
We put our Christmas decorations up on Wednesday the day BEFORE thanksgiving. I thought it was too early, however my mom had to work Fri, Sat, and today. Plus, we are having about 20 people over next Sat for a get together. Anyone done shopping? I just have to go get movie tickets for my two cousins. I am also just about done wrapping. This is a new record for me.
I am so happy that the boards are back up. It gives me a chance to procrastinate on not writing my final. LOL! Actually I am taking a break to see how everyone is doing.

I am completely done shopping with the exception of a gift for my Dad. I got everything finished over this weekend. I'm proud to say that I've not set foot in a single store this year to get done. I estimate that 85% of our household Christmas shopping has been done online. I expect some things to arrive this week that I need to get wrapped, then I'll be all done (Yes ladies, I do my own wrapping. And I'm darn good at it too! ;) )
Jen... Angela obviously knows that "something" is likely to take place, but all the anxiety is in waiting for the other shoe to drop. She doesn't know when or where or how, or how long, so that's the nice part. I'm truly hoping that when she gets to the surprise party, she'll think "that's it" so to speak. Then she'll later find out we're just getting started. I find myself so preoccupied with this whole thing. The very hardest thing is that I'll almost make a statement out loud about something like "Hey, just thing where we'll be two weeks from today" then I suddenly have to put the brakes on my motormouth. We were sitting around having cocktails Thursday night after a dinner party and I almost said something, caught myself in time and said "Oh My, I almost told you something you can't know!" she laughed and said "It's okay if you want to go ahead and tell me". I just shot her the "not a chance" look.

We normally eat dinner early when we are at home, but I felt like 6/6:30 was much too early while Cruising. I didn't want to have to rush back, or get short changed on sunshine to start getting ready for dinner.

There is a coffee shop in the terminal other than that I don't think there is anything else there. We just sit and wait for them to open the doors. The characters also come out right before boarding. That is it that I am aware of.

[QUOTE=momto2dkids]Just got back last night from our Thankgiving break and found our cruise docs waiting for us- what a magical sight!! :cloud9:
When I looked over the documents to check our names (which, thankfully, were correct), I noticed that the seating was listed as MAIN, which if I remember correctly is th 6pm seating. ????? CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS??

Pgood-
Thanks for the confirmation.
When we originally booked we had wanted early seating(since we had had this on our prior cruise), but could only be confirmed with late seating which was little disappointing. We did waitlist for early at that time. After thinking it through for a couple of weeks, we figured maybe late wasn't so bad since our body clocks would be on west coast time and I called our travel agent to remove the waitlist request.
When my DD found out, a couple of weeks ago, that her new friend(RebeccalovesDisney's DD) was on early seating, she was bummed that we had late seating. Now she is so excited to have early seating like her new friend. Like I said in my earlier post- I believe God works in His own way!

Jwann - Where are you? Did I scare you when I said I was a stalker? I was only kidding!
Here I am! I was out of town for Turkey Day. I wasn't scared at all! In fact, I was flattered.
Hope everyone had a good holiday. We got caught in the huge midwest snowstorm and barely made it to my sisters in St. Louis. My mom didn't make it. She got into a car wreck and broke a vertebra in her back (L1). She's still in the hospital but the doctor is fitting her with a brace instead of surgery which made her happy.

Hi all. I'll be posting the questions for the game next Monday. Instead of posting a list of the people who have NOT sent in questions, I decided to post a list of people who HAVE sent in questions. If you want to refresh your memory re: the game, go to page 43 of this thread. Please...even if you don't want to play...send a question via PM or email jwann@murray-ky.net

Sent an e-mail to my TA this weekend and received a reply. It says "Hello Sam, your cruise docs will arrive 2-3 weeks prior to sailing."
Grrr..... What ever happened to decent service and taking 3 minutes to understand the context of a request?
It was all I could do to restrain myself and not send a curt reply.

smchan -
If you have your Disney confirmation #, I would call them directly. If not call the TA and get the # to see if they've been sent out.
We went through Dreams, who sends them directly, so I kept calling to find out when they were sent. Disney says that they send them out - at the latest - 14 days before departure and they are sent 2 day mail.
Good luck!

momto2dkids - I sure hope we get early seating but DCL still won't confirm it. When we booked in March we were already waitlisted for early. Since then, my mom, who is linked with us, also booked and sent in a physician signed form requesting early dining (diabetes related). But as of last week they still list us on the waiting list. If we have late dining when we check in, we'll definitely go and try to get it changed. My daughter is really looking forward to meeting your DD!
Sam - I hope you get your docs soon. Is there someone you can call? Have you tried calling DCL directly to see if they have a ship date for your docs? Even if you book with a TA, I think all docs are sent from Celebration, FL.

Not sure if anyone would be interested in this idea, but I'll throw it out there. I would be willing to build a photo collage of all those in this thread that will be sailing on 12/11. I'm not sure all the purposes it will serve, but it could be something nice for a scrapbook, or maybe we could even exchange autographs during the cruise ;)
If anyone likes the idea, or you want to participate, just pm me and I'll furnish my email address to you so that you can send a family photo (or even individual shots and I'll piece them together). I'll typeset the cruise date, usernames, etc. and send everyone a copy back in pdf format, or I can post it to our website so that you can download.
Just looking for things to occupy my time. You know, idle hands and the devil and all that stuff

It seems to me that there are not very many people that want to do any work only 11 days til we cruise. I know I sure don't. I am getting ready to leave work to drive to Princeton for an install and a service call. I guess I can listen to some music for the hour drive. :moped: And then again on the hour drive home. :moped: I get so day dreamy of the cruise that I forget that I am actually at work.
I hope that everyone else is finding it easier to work than I am. I can;t imagine what I will be like next week. At least this week I am busy writing my paper. Next week there will be nothing to hurry and get turned in. I guess I am in trouble.
Anyone doing the week pass for the rainforest? I think that we will doing it...Only $50 for the week not too shabby. What is the raiforest anyway. My mom does not really care because so many of you guys have been talking about it she thinks we need to do it.
Thanks for the info.

Anybody getting the internet package?I have to get it as it may be the only way for me to communicate back home which I need to Maria
Maria... I'll definitely be getting the Internet Package. Like you, it'll be my only outside link to the rest of the world. It's a Must Have. I suppose I'll have to come here and PM you while we're onboard. (Just so I'll feel at home and all! lol)
Just as a reminder to everyone, I called the CC (Plastic, not the Cay) Companies today and informed them I'd be travelling out of the country. If anyone is planning on using plastic to do shopping or anything in the Territories, Visa and MC said it was a good idea. You all probably already knew that, but just a reminder that if you haven't done so, you should. They just wanted to know the destinations and the dates.

Congrats on getting your docs in the A. M. I thought that you already had them. I thought you already wrapped them for Angela. Guess I thought wrong. Congrats to ya anyway. YEAH for you. Now we just have to wait till the 11th.
Hurry up and get here.
P.S. Do you guys know how much the internet pckages are? I don't know why I am asking because I THINK I like the idea of no outside communication.

I think it was CruiseNewbie that just go the docs. You're correct, mine are wrapped and ready to go. I've had mine for several days.
I'm not sure about the weekly Internet Package, but I'd guess it's in the $50 neighborhood. Doesn't matter, I'll have it (I hope Disney doesn't read this or they'll jack up the price on 12/10) :)
Maria... I'm on hold with Nextel at this very moment waiting to hear a Yea or Nay on their coverage in the Islands. Neither their domestic or international coverage map show them, so I called them. I've apparently asked the impossible question :) They're having to ask this person and ask that person. Don't get me wrong, they're very nice and helpful, they always are. You can tell this is a question they don't get very often. Since Nextel is unique in that they work on their own infrastructure and don't share with the other carriers, just because Sprint or Cingular does, doesn't mean Nextel will. Okay, during the time it took me to type that, I got a report back that says Nextel will not work in either St. Thomas or St. Maarten. (Don't think for one minute that I won't have mine with me though! haha)

At least you still have interest in completing your final. I have lost interest in work and school. I have a narrative report due next Thursday. Thankfully I started it early, knowing this would be a problem. I am hoping to get to the school library this week, just to compare it to other reports so I can figure out if I am doing this right. I'd hate to mess up over 50% of my grade!!!!
All I keep thinking about is what to bring and how I want to get to that late night dessert buffet. Last time we were so full we didn't eat at any of the later buffets, though they looked amazing. This time I am going to try to be a littler smarter about the eating (yea right!!).

We are newcomers to the Disboards but have been following along with everyone. We are familiar with the cell phone problems. My husband and I have traveled twice without the kids and have found that the cell phone thing does not work, in fact, if they did I think it would give new meanng to the word "ROAMING". We have found AT&T phone cards work great. We buy 500 minutes and then look for a pay phone. Hope that helps.

I just thought of something... maybe you folks could help me out.
My boys, Noah and Joshua, have no clue they're going on a cruise. It'll be their first. They ask frequently but, as far as they know, it'll never happen. They're going to be shocked.
Both will have over the top reactions, especially Josh, my 4 year old. Josh is very extroverted and loves to talk to people. I think it'd be really cool if some of you would just approach him out of the blue and say "Hi Joshie, are you ready to cruise?" Or something like that. :)
He's got big blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. Cute kid, hard to miss.

The weekly internet package is $89.99 unless it has gone up.I have to get it regardless as I have to keep in touch with home.Being in the business I am in,I have no choice.I can write it off<G>.
Mark-Oh well!I guess it can't hurt trying it.I like Nextel,so I am sticking to them.I will be curious if our walkatalkie feature will work or not.Someone mentioned there was an AT and T office right by tram in St Thomas,so I can always call from there.I will just do what I did in the Bahamas I got a their own phone card. Thanks for calling Nextel!!!

Maria, you can get online at AT&T, or go to any of the retail outlets. Just look in the phone book.
Could you tell me what all is found in the Rainforest area of the ship and the cost? This is my first Disney cruise and you seem to know what a relaxing place that is and that is just what I am looking to find on the ship!!

The rainforest has gone up to 78 a week or 15 a day.I have decided to do the rainforest the days at sea as I was thinking am I really goiing to have time to get in there every day.I doubt it.I am still contemplating as it is the best. These are the massaging loungers-http://www.allcarrentals.com/cruiseimages1/disame1.jpg
You have the benefits of steam, heat and water theraphy along with the aromatheraphy to relax, clear your body and mind.I find it really relaxing. It really helps my asthma. When I get out of there,I am breathing so much better. The aromas in there are something else. The showers are great if you want to take a shower after the pool. They have shampoo and soap in there also.Plenty of room, and you have some privacy. There is also a sauna in there. From what I have heard, you can ask them to show you what it is like in there before you sign up for it.I believe they have a spa presentation or something like that which informs you what the spa has to offer.I did the rainforest on the Disney Wonder, and I found myself in there as much as I could.I didn't make it in there when we were in Nassau or Castaway Key,so that is why I am wondering if I should get the weekly pass.My dh is doing the alpha capsule this time around.Let me know what you decide!
Everyone have a great day!

YW. Happy To Do It! The Direct Connect feature won't work because it's tower based. The technology doesn't travel phone to phone, there's always a tower involved in the transmission/reception.
Here's another idea that didn't occur to me until this morning. Back in the Spring, the guys from our morning show were on a cruise and they did reports from the Internet lounge aboard the Cruise Ship using VOX IP (Voice Over IP) - It was broadcast quality and worked very well, so that might be an option. A friend of mine who does a bunch of work internationally uses a service (which I think is actually free) where he wears a headset and a person can call him from anywhere in the world and vice versa if you have a high speed connection. So if at your DC, you have a high speed connection, you may actually be able to keep in touch with your dckids and employees that way, using your $89 investment for the weekly internet package instead of long distance minutes. I'll zip an email off to him this morning and see what I can learn about that service, and what all might be involved in making it work.

Hi,
Sorry, but I just called Disney to reconfirm what my mom was told before about the rainforest. The rainforest for the week is only $50. That is a great deal because if you go four days you have already paid for the weekly pass. I think that is a great price. Like I said I just hung up the phone with Disney and got the $50 price.

When we picked up our docs today, they said late seating, which is not what we booked (and confirmed that we had in writing from Disney). The TA showed us the fax confirmation dated yesterday from Disney saying no, in fact we were and ARE booked for EARLY seating. she said disney told her they made a mistake and that we should bring the confirmation fax from disney with us in case there is any problem. This makes me somewhat nervous that they will not honor it.
