We are going to WDW Jan 23-30. How important is it to make PS for character meals this far out? I have already gotten Cinderella but was wondering about the others. Crowds?

When we were in WDW in January 2002 we decided to wing it without any PSs. We had absolutely no problems with gettting in any where at the last minute. We called from our hotel room about an hour before we wanted to eat and we were all set.
Now this year I am making PSs to make the trip a little more scheduled than we did two years ago. But the good news is it should be easy to change our plans without any problems.
Anyway...if any month is ok to go to WDW without PSs...January is that month in my opinion!
Good Luck!!!

Crowds...forgot that part of you questions. The crowds were small when we were there in January 2002. I am hoping the will be in January 2004!!

The crowds were small in January 2001 also :) We ate at chef mickey's , garden grill ,Japan and China too I didn't know about PS seating then so all we did was call when we got to the parks...
GOOD LUCK,

You shouldn't have problems. We have never made any and haven't had to wait long, if at all. The Jan weather can big the biggest obstacle imo.

I'm in the same boat. It's always been just me and DH and we never made any PS's in all our trips and rarely have to wait longer than any restaurant at home. I hear about people making PS for all of their meals and I just can't operate like that..talk about the death of sponteniety (sp?). We are going with a bigger group of family in January and planning on some character meals. People here have suggested calling the same morning or day or 2 before when you are there to make a PS when you have a better idea of your schedule. I'm going to try that this Jan.

while they may not be absolutely needed, i would rather have them than not...if you do not want to keep them, don't but at least you will have them especially for alarge group...some places I called were skimpy on hours available for early Jan. although I have heard more open up closer to time.

I would say that if there's any meal that you simply CAN'T miss, especially the character meals, I would make a priority seating. Otherwise, I would call the day you want them. I did this last January, and had no problem getting any restaurant I wanted.

You shouldn't have problems that time of year. You will find the crowds level is low. Have a great time!
