Good morning all it's early morning on Sunday it's very sunny :sunny: out but chilly it's does feel good I love fall mornings in New England the colors are changing on the trees it's so beautiful.

WOW this board is so busy. It's great to see that we are all so excited about the cruise finally after all this time.
Beano, when did you 1st start this thread?

I hope you all get your docs soon. Beano you just reminded me I have to start filling mine out soon.

You know I'm usually a planner but this time I'm not going to be because I've already been on the western cruise before so I was only going to do 2 shore excursions 1 in Grand Cayman and 1 in Castaway Cay. As we all know Grand Cayman is out and from what I've been reading Costa Maya does not sound like much fun at all. I may just stay on the ship. I only want to get off the ship in Cozmel to shop and have some drinks and fun at Carlos and Charles (that is the best), at Key West (no shopping cuz everything is way too expensive) the only thing I want to do is try to find a place called Bo's Fish Wagon to try some Conch fritters, and of course at Castaway Cay I'm going to try and get up the guts to Parsailing (I may just have a drink or 2 before I try that) like I said I'm usually a planner but I'm not going to be this time I'm going to "go with the flow" this time??????

Well, I better run now I have a wicked lot to do. Talk to you all soon.

Good morning everyone!

It is downright chilly here - I think there may have even been a little frost on a few things when I first woke up... Definitely autumn here.

Some more info on Costa Maya. I emailed the "Maya Beach Garden" which is a resort sort of near Majahual. I asked if they had any info on tours to the Chacchoban ruins. Here is their reply (I x'd out the email address since it didn't seem fair to post it without permission...)

First I would like to ask when you are scheduled to dock at Costa Maya? You are correct about Chacchoban being smaller. It is still very park-like and beautiful. Booking a visit is usually a 1/2 day affair allowing plenty of time to do something else. The tours you book from the ship or from the pier all include licensed English speaking guides. I don't know the price of the tour, but they provide a bus or you can take a taxi and get a guide once you are on site. I do know one excellent guide that you may be able to book in advance. His name is Ivan Cohuo. His email address is xxxxxxxxxxx. He checks email about once a week as he doesn't have email in his home (few Mexicans do). If he is unavailable, I sure he could recommend someone else. His services run $35 per tour (or in that neighborhood). Please tell him that I recommended him to you.

So what do y'all think? Is anyone interested in me getting more info on this and maybe putting together our own excursion? if we set it up ourselves, we can have a little flexibility on the time. We could arrange to head out at 8:30 or 9:00 and those who wanted to visit the school could do that first thing before we left. If you didn't want to visit the school, you'd have a little more time to wake up and get ready!

Why couldn't I have been one of those "I don't plan anything and just go with the flow" type people?!? :D  ;)

Pamela, I'm in. I'll bet the guide will have transport options. Four of us, two adults, two kids 8 and 11. Cherie, what about you? Would love to do this first thing in the morning, while it may still be a bit cool (Ha!). School, then ruins, then back in time to get Blue Ha to take us on a snorkel (DCL's boat snorkel only allows kids over 10, so, for us to snorkel, means we have to hire out)?

Hi All, hope everyone is having a great Sunday. I just got back from work after a very early start 5:30am!!! But now i've got the next 2 days off so I'm happy. I would love it if my Docs arrive before I'm back at work on Wednesday.

Carla - It's great to hear you had a good time at the Rose & Crown. It's so funny you mention fanny packs because I remember training a new female CM in the Fish and Chip hut, it was the first time she'd ever been in the US and the first guest she served mention something about fanny packs and she went into shock! Of course once I explained it she was ok!
It's great also your kids got to "start" the fireworks, I used to love getting kids to do that, they always seem to love it so much.
You know I really didn't want to leave there at the end of my contract, I had such a great time but my visa was about to expire and I had to go :( .
As for Adina, the name rings a bell (You have to excuse me, I'm very good with faces but bad with names). I think I know who you are talking about, unfortunatly she wasn't in the same serving team as me so I didn't know her personally. I couldn't really tell you if she is still on the ship, although most servers stick around for a few contracts so keep you fingers crossed and hopefully she'll be there. Remember if you go to Sessions when you first board the ship (where they do the dining requests) you could speak to the head servers and ask them if Adina is still on board, if so you could then request her as your server for the week (this is not an uncommon request). Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Well I'm busy doing a bit more vacation planning, we're spending the week after the cruise in Orlando so I'm trying to get some idea of what we're going to do each day. It's all making me more excited :bounce:

Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful :sunny: Sunday here in California. Supposed to be around 90 degrees today, and throughout the week.

Faith - I started this thread on Oct. 27th, 2003.
Seems like forever ago! ::yes::

3 weeks from today is Key West day! Faith, I agree that Carlos and Charlies is great fun, but we also want to go to Sloppy Joes and Margaritaville while in Key West. Key lime pie and margaritas are health foods, no? :scratchin

:boat: :boat: :boat: Come on let me take you on a Sea Cruise. :boat: :boat: :boat:

Hey Pamela,
You beat me to it! :) I was just reading the post's from the last couple of day's & I was going to mention Ivan Cohu, but it looks like you already did. :) Anyway, I e-mailed him 2 dat's ago, but still haven't heard back from him. Marci, from the Mayan Beach Garden said that it could take a couple day's because she think's he check's his e-mails at an internet cafe. Marcia also said that Ivan Cohu grew up in Chacchoben & so is very familiar w/ the area. I'll let everyone know if/when he responds to my e-mail. Although you could or probably have e-mailed him yourselves.

I'm willling to to go & if anyone else, we should make a group of it. It should be fun... -Jen

Hi!

DH and I are thinking that we'll probably do more of the "go with the flow" thing this time around. So we're not booking any excursions. We're going to shadow our new friends, since they know all the "good" places to go! Course...they may try to lose us along the way, but we'll find them...they can't hide! Hehehehe...LOL

Our only plan is to have as much fun and fellowship as possible!!!

REDNECK WORD: JAWJUH

We use to live in Virginia, and now we live in Jawjuh!

Carla and Pamela,

Yup, Yup, Yup! Count us in on the School-Ruin thingy. My son is dying to get to the ruins and I think it's really important for them to see the school and "give" for once. Just let us know where and when to show up. :grouphug:

I'm going to start stalking :smooth: the Fed Ex guy

Redneck word for the evening: butternut

I butternut eat until the cruise if there's chocolate covered Key Lime pie (sound yummy)

Okay,

Here's the thing... I am already finished packing(I know I'm a little obsessive), but anyway, for a family of 5 people we have 3 suitcases & 2 garmet bag's. This is not including carry-on(s).
A little to much? My mom is just laughing @ me. She say's I need to "down size". So, do you think I'm packing a little on the heavy side? Or, do you think it's apropos with maybe "almost" everyone else? Or, am I an anomaly? :)

Hi Jen,

It looks like we can put together our own excursion if we can work out the details. With those who have posted here, we have a decent sized group with you folks, us, Carla's family and Cheri's family (& anyone else who joins in)- I think it will be fun :D

I don't think you too far off on the luggage. I think we are going to end up in 2 suitcases and 1 garment bag for the 3 of us - that's 1 bag a piece. Your 3 & 2 for 5 works out the same. We do try to keep our carryons to a minimum, but for this trip it will probably be a little more than usual. We won't be lugging a laptop this time, but DH is going to carry wine, we have all the camera gear, stuff for the little guy to do on the plane, a change of clothes for each since we will be leaving cold Chicago and arriving in Orlando at 10:30 and heading to GatorLand to meet some of my relatives there (no they aren't gator's - its just a convenient place to meet!) Aargh! I dread carrying it all...

Pamela

I only WISH we could pack like you guys! :earsboy:

Looks like we'll have 3 softside suitcases, plus 1 huge hardside one, plus our carry-ons. My carry-on is on wheels, full of nothing but electronic equipment. 2 or 3 camcorders, 2 digital still cameras, filters, lenses, tapes, chargers, tripod, etc. etc. Did I mention I film alot? ::yes::

DW's carry-on has meds, kid's CD players for the plane rides, and so on. I think we're considering bringing our living room furniture too.

Hey Beano! Did you clear that luggage load with your transportation people? I think that you might have too much there. Is it less than last year's 2 weeks worth of luggage?

I think that we can fit it in the land yacht. No Problem Mon!

Can't wait to see you folks! I really need this vacation.

Hello, Everyone

I figured the frequency of posts was going to skyrocket when everyone else, too, realized it was due time to start wondering where the snorkels got stashed after the last cruise...

This was an exciting weekend for us...like Dana and Steve, we have a new addition to our family--a 950 pound Quarter Horse named "Cowboy" that was John's surprise (early) birthday present. (Somebody tell me how to post a picture on disboards, plz?) When we went to the barn Sunday morning, Cowboy was waiting in his stall with a big bow around his neck. John didn't understand right away, and thought it was the horse's birthday. He was soon corrected. :-) Cowboy was a track "pony" we rescued from the race track before he ended up a Belgian entree. So now we are a family of three kids, two dogs, two horses, two bunnies (including the Largest Dwarf Bunny in the World) and five goldfish. I didn't think it was appropriate that a proper Englishman not have his own horse. John's "real" birthday will be the first day of the cruise, but I thought it best not to pack the pony along with the sunscreen, and so he got his pressie early.

It was also my son's ninth birthday this week and we took eleven kids to see "Shark's Tale." It was quite decent...very Shrek-like in composition and humor (at times you'd hear only the adults laughing as PG-13 joke sailed harmlessly over the kids' heads).

We've decided at Costa Maya to go for a wander around in the morning, perhaps join Pamela in the school visit if it allows time for us to get in position for the beach horseback ride at 12, and then go back on board, sit on our verandah, crack open the Coronas and limes and look for dolphins. That's an ambitious enough itinerary, I think ;-)

Three weeks from today, we'll be at sea en route to Costa Maya!

Oh Denise, can I come visit you? I am so jealous that you have 2 horses now. If I could, I would own a horse. I don't know how to post pictures on the DIS but I hope someone can help you because I really want to see pics of your horses. My friend has a paint that I just love, his name is Nickel. She had another horse named Mikey but had to give him up yesterday...their barn that she boards at is closing and the prices of other boardings is too expensive for her with her 2 horses. She leased Mikey for the summer and was considering buying him. He was a sweetheart and unfortunately sold to someone else.

Luggage...ya planning on only 1 suitcase and 1 carry on, but with my formal dress, I may need to have 2 suitcases!!!! I overpack so much and am trying not to do it this time. Swimsuits, shorts and tank tops is all I am packing!!! (maybe I can convince myself of that.

I went to Margaritaville in Las Vegas, but would love to go there at Key West, sounds fun. I need another tank top from there only with one that says Key West!!!

Hi, fellow travelers

Heidi...we're working off partial board of the two horses, so imagine how much manure-toting, fence fixing, and hay stacking that will be...They are worth it, though. We just moved horses to a more affordable (and nicer) location where we can cash in on sweat equity.

I'm trying to figure if I can get away with capris and sneakers for the trail ride...do NOT want to lug jeans and boots on the cruise. The beach ride web site says no flipflops/etc, which makes sense since they'll only fall off, but the people in the pictures were BAREFOOT!

Ok, it feels like it's been 3 weeks to the cruise for the last month! LOL Works been keeping me busy, but no matter what, once it gets down to a few weeks left, the time just drags.

I can't believe how disorganized I still am, I'm usually so much more prepared by now. I can't believe how many of you are already packed...I have my list, but nothing in suitcases yet. And since we're driving this time around, not sure how much we're bringing.

My DH has been trying to keep up on these boards through me relaying what's been going on, but he hopes to be able to post here himself soon. He just can't stay awake long enough to do much of anything lately. :faint:

Smashing beer cans against each other's heads. I love this guy! Tim, Steve, you guys in?

Hey, since the cruise is getting close, I wanted to ask all you folks:

Have you made your reservations for the dining rooms yet? Are the meals there pretty expensive?

Are there any good roller coasters on Castaway Cay?

Are the onboard movie theaters expensive?

Can we water ski behind the boat?

If I melt dry ice, can I go swimming without getting wet?

Ah, insanity. I like it here!

Pat: Called DCL, 2 accounts on one room is totally cool. :) So I guess you don't have to pay for me and Steve this cruise. Dang it! Also...Favor to Ask :) It all depends on how much you're packing and how well...but I was wondering if you'd bring a couple of my fav bottles of wine down with you? They're skinny, so if put a ziploc around them, roll them in some of your clothes, they should make the plane ride okay. If you're up to the challenge, let me know and I'll give you the name of the wine. :)

We took the Mayan Ruins excursion with our two young children and thought it was fantastic! It's not Chichen Itza but a very good choice to experience Mexican history. Our guide, Dora, was very informative. Very fairly priced. You wouldn't want to do this on your own as the ruins are about 1 hour away from the port and you wouldn't have the benefit of a guide to explain the site to you. The bus was very comfortable and the ruins impressive. We left at 8:30 and didn't get back to the port until 1:30 at which time we took a taxi to Mahahual. We sat under an umbrella, enjoyed a few Sol beers and some chicken fajitas and dipped our toes in the warm water. From where we sat, there were jet skiiers and a banana boat. I would agree that, if visiting Mahahual was all you did, you probably would be disappointed as there is not much there.

However, it is important to mention that Costa Maya has only been a port for a couple of years. Construction will boom in the next few years on the road from the port to the village. You can see all the side/offshoot roads are built and named but no buildings are there...yet. It's a shame that in 15 years, this is going to look like any other port you visit. The village of Mahahual had only 20 families living there until 2002 and now there are maybe 2000 people. It is an authentic Mexican seaside village. If you're expecting Hard Rock Cafes, McDonald's and Senor Frogs, you'd be better off visiting Cancun or Vegas. If you want to see authentic Mexico, visit Costa Maya now before it's too late. I much preferred this port to touristy Cozumel with its "One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor" T-shirts

Hi Jen, Carla & Cheri,

I sent you all PM's with more info/details/etc on the Chacchoban ruins tour.

If there is anyone else that is interested in that tour with us, please send me an email, PM or post here and I'll send you all the info we have so far.

Question for everyone: Does anyone bring bubbles to blow at the sail-away - should we bother or is it more of a pain than fun?

Question for the ladies: I am getting my first ever pedicure before we go - should I keep trimming my toenails between now and then or should I let them grow and let them trim them? This is probably a dumb question, but I'm not a spa/salon type and have never done anything like this before. The closest is getting my fingernails done before my wedding (the only time I have had long nails) and I just stopped cutting them a few weeks before and then let them do whatever to shape/color them! (I was just going to keep chopping the toenails off - its not like I want them long :) - but then I thought that might make it harder for them to "shape" them or whatever it is they do....)

I am afraid that I don't seem to know any redneck words! I guess living near Chicago my whole life hasn't prepared me for this :)

Pamela, I PMd you about the ruins arrangements.

Called my TA yesterday and she called DCL, blasted Docs still have not arrived! Booked REAS, don't tell DH. How soon will they call me? My biggest incentive was to not have to do Late dinner. We are just too exhausted to make it that late.

Pamela, cannot help on the pedicure, I've had ONE, before the last cruise. The gal was flabbergasted at the shape of my feet. My normal pedicure routine consists of cutting the toenails straight and trying to get out the sock fuzz.

Pamela - Can't help you out either. I have never had a pedicure before, I can't stand having my feet touched. It sounds like fun and relaxing but I can't get over that they would have tot ouch my feet!!! My coworkers swear by pedicures....too bad none of them are around that I could ask.

PAM: First of all - let the toenails grow. They can shape them nicer if they have more to work with because if they are too short they could all have different shapes. I get an occasional pedicure & am planning on one before the cruise. Joyce may wait & have one done ON the cruise.

I am SOOOOOOOOO excited:jumping1: about the cruise:boat:

Worked Monday & Tuesday, brought my Mom home from Rehab. Hospital today & work tomorrow. Disney Dudette #3 & I are going to Ocean City this weekend for a Craft Fair & are leaving Friday morning so I may not have time to post. I hope you all have a great weekend. Toodles:wave2: :earsgirl: JEANNE

Hi, All

Thanks to Pamela, anyone who is interested can see our new four legged baby "Cowboy" (http://www.bwdarrah.com/dcl/images/CowboyBirthdayPictureCropped.jpg)

While we are cruising, he'll hopefully continue making friends with our other horse so they can share hay bales and talk about the good ol' days at the racetrack together.

I found our annual passes today, so that's one disaster averted already. :-)

Wow...it's really getting CLOSE! I can almost feel the sand in my suitcase already!

Pamela, I agree w/ Jeanne.

I have a thing about long toenails. It drives me nuts. So, one time about a week before I had a pedicure I had cut my toenails. The "specialist" who did my pedicure very tactfully & kindly suggested that I didn't give my toenails a trimmin' before I come in for my pedicure(s). Also, sometimes your poish can get a little dull looking from the sand on the beach & from the pool. Just put clear polish over your nails if that starts to happen & it will sparkle them there toes right back up. Another thing, I have heard (and this is just a rumor) that fish seem to like pink nail polish.

Ok, that's my 2 cent's. -Jen:sunny:

Hi all!

Good day at work, it's hump day! ;)

Denise: Love the pic of you and John with the new baby. :) He's beautiful. I love horses, always have, just don't get to ride much. Did when I was a kid, my grandparents had an orange grove in Lutz, FL, 40acres. They had a few horses for my Aunt and she taught me to ride. Then a friend of mine in VA turned us onto this farm in Aldie where you can rent them by the hour, by your experience level and go out unguided. Got in some nice riding there, but then we moved. So now I'm in search of something like that here. :)

Pedicures: I LOVE THEM! I use to be so grossed out by the idea of someone touching my feet...I am totally not a foot person. Then a friend gave me a gift certificate for one years ago and I fell in love. They really do wonders for your feet, feel great, and are very relaxing. Just make sure you go someplace reputable, get referrals from friends on where they go. The thing I've learned over the years is that if you can go someplace where they treat each client individually, that's the best. Usually they will create a pouch with tools just for you...that way you know they've only touched YOUR feet/nails. I also learned that a lot of nail salons will use a scrapper on your heels, I can't remember what they are called...but some cosmotologist friends of mine have explained that they aren't a real good idea. Initially they make your heels extremely soft, get rid of all dead and hard skin, but then they just get worse than they were before hand. So if you go to one of those salons, just politely ask them not to use that particular tool on your feet, just have them use a pumice stone. If you keep a pumice stone in your shower or bath, then just rub your heels with it when you're showering, you won't have rough dry heels ever. Another tip: Cuticle Oil! Works great on fingernails and toenails. Gives everything moisture, keeps cuticles from drying out and helps your polish last longer. Solar Oil is a good one to try. :)

Okay, I'm sure the guys REALLY appreciated all that info. LOL But you know...men could use a mani/pedi now and then too...sans polish. :) Just a nice cleaned up look with buffed shaped nails.

Woo hoo....we're almost at the 2 week mark!!!

Getting everything organized for the car ride down. This is going to be a first for us, driving down instead of flying, but we're so much closer now. 6.5 hours versus 16 hours...huge difference. :)

Well, gotta get dinner on and roll some coins. :)

Dana - Thank you for all the information! I am going with a friend to the salon she always goes to and highly recommends. We have set up a "double" appointment where we will get them done side by side. Without this, I don't think I would have had the nerve to even try it! I don't think I have even had polish on my toes since I was a teenager...

Jen - Thanks for the tip on the clear polish. I'll try to remember to buy some to pack! At least clear won't be quite as obvious that I haven't painted a nail in nearly 20 years...

Carla - We don't have our docs either, but I do know where they are. DCL sent them to my TA on Sept 29, the TA's "main office" (I didn't know there was more than one) received them at 5:00pm on Oct 4, but are saying they arrived on the 5th. They have sent them on to my TA who expects them to arrive today or tomorrow and she will then send them to me via Priority Mail. I only have this much info because I called DCL and asked them, they gave me the tracking number (UPS) and I was able to inform my TA what was going on. Needless to say, I will not be using this TA again! If you have REAS, isn't their someone at DCL (Debbie I think) that you can call who will arrange everything for you?

EVERYONE - Would anyone like nametags for our little group? We are over 50 people (including the kids) listed on the "Who's going" page and I know it will be tough for me to keep all the names straight! It would be fairly simple to make basic nametags with our names and screen names (or relationship to screen names, such as "pdarrah's DH") I was thinking we could use them for the sail-away meet and maybe the wine party (not wear them all the time!) What do you think? Anyone like this idea? Anyone hate it? If we do it, I'll use the names straight from the website, so if you would like to change anything let me know.

Only 15 more packing days ... (we leave the morning of the 22nd)

PAM: I think the name idea is great:bounce:. I have a hard time just trying to remember who is who on the boards. The name tags would help out.

Regarding men being bored with all the pedicure talk...
When I used to get my fingernails done regularly (before no artificial nails at work) a man would come in & get a pedicure every week! Lucky him!!!!

is it just me, or did all the guys hear the same as me....blah blah blah, blah blah blah, nametags, beer, ladies in bikini's, blah blah blah. Man the neices wore me out at chuck-e-cheese's tonight!

I think the nametags thing is a great idea, i am horrible with names. I don't think hey you, or dude will work for most people.

We can fix the pedicure thing really quick, just chop off the feet, no more toes or toenails, problem solved.

Well i must get well rested up for my dinner interview tomorrow, to finalize details on my new job.

Hello from John:

We both think the name tag is a wonderful idea for the sail-away party and the bacchanal.

By the way we are also thinking of doing some of the other "educational" programs such as the back stage tour. Has anybody been to these and have any comments?

We will definitely do the wine tasting (stem to stern) and the high tea at Palo.... " more clotted cream scones my sweet?"

I am so excited that my delightful bride of three months has finally bestowed on me the rest of the dowry that was owed i.e. the cute quarter horse Cowboy. At 10.00 pm last night I was happily collecting more horse poop to add to the growing pile.
Anybody with roses need a lorry load?

See you very very soon

Nametags - good idea...we usually have buttons with our DIS names on them, but in the move I seem to have misplaced them (acutally they are lost among all the s**t we have in our storage room!LOL!)

Hi!

I'm sneaking on too....hehehehe.

I like the name tag idea...buttons sound cool too.:)

Not much going on today. I'd rather be home packing or doing one of the other million things on my list of things to do. LOL

We decided to refinance our house since I'm working now and we can qualify for a lower rate based on both incomes...so we're now going to closing the day before we leave, 10/21. LOL Here's hoping everything goes as scheduled.

Well, better get back to work.

I say we all just leave now, beat the rush, I've got a tent that sleeps 10, who wants to camp out at Port Canaveral with me? LOL

Dana I will join you in your tent. I am so excited and just want to leave now. Makes the workday very long (and very unproductive!!)

Well I just found out that the Magic is not the only ship at Costa Maya on the 26th. One of Holland America's ships will be joining us....I believe the name of the ship is Zaandam.

Guess we better make sure we get on the right ship coming back...or do i want to go to holland...so many choices, so little time. I have been unproductive since the interview on monday...those two weeks notices are pretty lame, cause once you give them you don't do much work anyways. Oh well, lets be honest, back to NOT working.

Bonjour Froggy Flo,
But not even sure I spelled that right, I do not speak French, but DH does a bit. I'm sure he will bring up the time I ordered brains in Beaune (sp? again). Join us all on Deck 10 after the safety drill for the Sail Away Party! Do you have your tiara and black gloves ready to go? This is our first Western. We are going to snorkel beach hop in Cozumel, hang in Castaway Cay and snorkel and do the ruins thing in Costa Maya then snorkel some more. We are planning on getting trolley tickets in Key West, visiting the treasure museum, the fort and hopefully have time to check out the snorkeling. Duh, we like to snorkel.

All,
Just what is this festival going on in Key West?

DS8 is off track, so we snuck out and got pirate gear for the boys. Sashes, head ties, patches and earrings! AAARRRGGGHH Mateys! Cheap wig and jewels for me. The Roto-Rooter guy was here all morning, so I finally got a chance to organize the clothes. Oh, brother, don't know if it will all fit in the suitcases.

Hi Froggy Flo,

DH and I do not speak any French (some German, a little Spanish, but no French). Theoritically, my DS5 has been learning French for 4 years - classes 2 times a week at his Montessori school. However, I have no idea if he has learned anything or not since I don't speak any! Maybe we will discover if he knows anything if he talks to your DD...

Carla - FantasyFest in KeyWest seems to be their version of Mardi Gras. Since they find it necessary to "remind" people that body paint does not count as clothing when in public, I am not sure my midwestern sensibilities are up to this. I get the impression that it is very popular with those of "alternative lifestyles". It will begin the weekend we are there, but it really peaks the following weekend for halloween. ... still no info from my TA on docs and I still haven't started packing my clothes :(

DS5 will definitely be dressing up as a pirate! He had already decided to be a pirate last spring before we even booked this cruise and has been planning on bringing his costume since we first started planning it. (Grandma almost has it finished - just working on the shirt) He also wants to be a pirate on formal night since he is a "dressy" pirate like Capt. Hook. My mother commented that he could take off the hat, patch & hook and he would look like Prince Charming - when I suggested that to him, he was horrified because the Prince in Shrek was "yucky". I explained we meant a prince like in Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc which did seem more acceptable!

DH and I are going to stay with "Tropical" that evening. At most, there might be an eye-patch or something. We had already planned for tropical and DH has a great LOUD shirt with parrots on it! From what I have been reading on the boards, there is still a tropical feel to the evening and many people are still dressing that way.

I'm having enough trouble finding something I like for formal night, I am definitely not starting to shop for pirate outfits also

Bienvenue Floggy Flo! :)

Je ne pas parle Francais beaucoup, but my DD 7 & my DS 10 go to a french Immersion school (L'Etoile du Nord) since kindergarten. They both speak, read, write, & understand french pretty well. Obviously by 10 year old does a better job at it than my 7 year old. :) So, our DD's should be able to communicate pretty well.

Ronnie, We will be dressed in tropical w/ a little bit of pirate. pirate: If that make's any sense? :sunny:

Hi Everyone,

Since nametags seem to be a popular idea, here is what I plan to throw together. I will take all the names and info from the "Who's going" page, so if there is a typo/mistake there - let me know. I'll do these about 1 week before we sail, so if you are lurking and haven't asked to be added to the page yet, you have about 1 week left!

I am just going to "mail merge" the names/info using Word onto cardstock and cut them to 3.5" x 2". I'll pick up the self-adhesive pinbacks from a hobby/craft store and that is all there is to them. They'll look something like this, unless someone has a better idea...

Dan is pretty good usually about dancing even if no one else is! If he get a little shy, I just get him a drink and then he's fine.

If they have lessons, then presumably there is a dance floor and appropriante music somewhere!

I am so excited now. Maybe I'll finally start packing. I think I am going to find out if I can UPS a box to our stateroom. I found 6 coloring books that are in both Spanish & English. They're perfect to take to the school, but add an awful lot of weight.

Hi All, just checking in.

Finally we've got out docs!!! :bounce: Well sort of, I actually don't have mine as DCL decided to send both sets of docs to Rachel. Oh well I'll have to wait a couple more weeks to see them. I've decided to read through a set of docs from a previous cruise to get me in the mood! ::yes::

I haven't had any time to do any packing yet, in fact I'm still trying to get all my final planning done, just don't seem to have time to do anything with work.

Well I'd better start getting myself prepared for all the hours I've got to spend on planes. I've got a 9h 40min flight followed by a 4h 30min flight on Wednesday 20th and then a 5 hour flight on Friday 22nd. I don't mind flying too much but I do find it kinda boring, also being as I have long legs it can become quite painful on long flights.

On a lighter note - Is anyone planning to do a Brunch at Palos? I would love to do a brunch with some fellow DIS'ers. Is anyone interested?
I remember doing a Brunch with the Disney Dudettes once before and it was great fun! :D

Darren-

My H would welcome the chance to discuss/debate/etc about the EPL over brunch at Palo's one day, if you're interested. We get to make ressies thru the conceirge on Sat morning (does this mean we get a better shot at what we want?not sure.), so let us know if you'd like to join us.

Hi all,

Well, tonight was "Disney Jar" night, when we count all our savings in our 5 gallon water jug. Ok, so we should call it Disney Jug night.

Anyway...

If I can have a drum roll please...

$697.50 :)

Not our best effort, but not bad either!

It should take care of our on board bill.

For the first day.

For my daughter.

Before lunch.

Tomorrow we are going to watch the recently released Aladdin DVD and eat popcorn, then watch a few of the DVD's from our past cruises!
What a good 'ol American family we are, huh? :jumping1:

Cheri, you should go to the concierge briefing in Sessions (deck 3) as soon as you board, and they will have certain times blocked out for Palo, and they are also good about getting you the times you request. I made my ressies on the phone with them last week. Bring on the steak and lobster!

Tonight's redneck word: Coors.

"Hey Beano, want another beer?"

"Coors I do!!!"

Hi again

you guys post so quickly I' can't cope. Thanks to all that said they speak French (my DD also has been taught English but I'm afraid she only knows her name and how to count up to ten, nothing terrific!).

I'll update my profile with previous Disney trip (by the way, we are DVc members, are you?) :

1997 "Out of the WDworld" experience
1998 DD is a baby we do'nt go...
1999? Carribean Beach Resort
1999 4 days cruise on the Magic + Contemporary resort
May 2000 Dixie Landing - We join DVC
nov 2000 Eastern cruise - We add on DVC
2001 DS is a baby we don't go...
May2002 Vero Beach + BWK
July2003 Vero Beach + OKW
Christmas 2003 OKW
july 04 Vero Beach + BWK

We haven't thought about excursions yet, I just read the Disney description, it seems with a 3 year old you are restricted to beach day or guiding tours. AND I may start packing today, but we cannot pack too much since we have 3 planes to catch one after the other.

I didn't know about the pirate stuff, it would suit my DS but I haven't got any such costume. I think we will go "exotic" as usual, that at least I have in my cupboards. You are not allowed to immigrate in the States with a sword and a parrot, are you ?
;)

I like the "tag" idea. Shall we print it before we leave home? We may have some rough time trying to spell some names out though! Last time I went to WDW I was visiting a web site '(cannot remember which) and all the members were supposed to dress in green as a recognition sign. Any time I met people in that colour I kept wondering if THEY belonged or if it was a coincidence...

See you all at the sail away party sooooooo soon!

Cheri - That sounds great I'm definatly interested, I'll have to get geared up for debating! Yes as concierge guests you'll get a head start on Palo reservations (you lucky people). So you can pretty much have the pick of when you want to go.
Can I suggest you also book yourself in for afternoon tea at Palo (if your interested), it's great and it's the only meal at Palo with no extra charge. You get sandwiches, scones with cream, chocolate eclares and english trifle (the scones and eclares are to die for) and of course hot tea. There are very limited places for this and usually they're all booked up by concierge guests before regular guests even get to have a stab at them. So if you have concierge it's well worth going for it. :earsboy:

Gosh!

We've been busy here! Just dropped in to say...........yes, we're still alive.

Saw that your DIS meet at 3:00. We MAY not make that, since we have booked a Dune Buggy tour in Coz. We leave as soon as the boat will let us off, and I'm not sure when we will return. ( It IS the day we're in Coz., right?) I'm sure we'll see you guys before that.

Got to do our Cruise Walmart run today. Also need to start packing.

Time is running out!

Fran - sorry to hear you might not make our DIS meet. As I said before, it's tough to accomodate everyone since we're all so busy doing stuff! Won't be the same without you guys, though. Please try to come for a while if you can swing it. :(

So, does everyone have their docs now?? Who was last to get 'em, anyway? I need to place my drink order with them! ;)

Darren and Beano-

We cruised last summer so I recall making the ressies as soon as we came aboard. If anyone wants to join us for brunch, let me know so I can reserve the right number of seats.:hyper2: Palo's was toooooo quiet last time as I remember.

We'll be skipping the Tea. Not much of a tea drinker, unless it's tea-quilla :hyper:

Beano---- how did you get your ressies over the phone? I called and they said I had to wait until we got on board? Who do you know? Who did you pay? (And, can I have their number?)

:jumping2: We leave in 10 days!!!:jumping4: :cheer2:

Cheri - Phone ressies for Palo and the Spa may only be available for cat.1; not sure. Are you cat. 2 or 3?

We have stayed in 2 cat 3 suites before, 8102 & 8548. 8102 is MUCH bigger but the sleeping arrrangements in 8548 were better.

A week from Wednesday, and we're outta here! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Cheri,

We booked the REAS package (Romantic Escape At Sea). With the REAS you get to book your Spa & Palo's Ressies early. I called Debbie (who was so very nice) and left her a message. She called me back within an hour & went over everything. So, I booked my ressies about a month ago. So, I would think that w/ you being in a suite you should definetly be able to book early like Beano said. I believe you would book w/ Debbie too. Her # is 1-407-566-7411. Good Luck! :)

Thanks Beano and Jen,

I'll try calling tomorrow first thing. So anyone "pm" me if you want to come to Palo's.

For what we paid for that darned suite (cat 3) they should let us book ahead.

We're in 8600, clear in the back. I hope the kids don't spend the whole time seasick. ( Actually, last year we were in 8532 in the middle of the ship and I was the one standing on the veranda trying to calm my tummy. )

DARREN: Hope you got the PM from Sandy. The Disney Dudettes will always remember our Palo Brunch together. Can you feel the love?:grouphug:

I am SOOOOO excited:jumping1: Counting down work days until we leave for WDW.

Hi Cheri,

If you haven't already filled up your table, we would love to join you for brunch! Dan & I are going to try and do all 3 Palo meals (Dinner, brunch & tea) but we didn't do any REAS or suite, so we will be doing the ressie rush. Since we plan to take the Radisson's 10:30am shuttle to the port, I don't think it will be too hard to get them. We like meeting people and having friends to chat with, so a group brunch sounds fun to me (and one less ressie to worry about...)

If it works out (if you already have a bunch of others reply and the group is too large, we'll certainly understand) let us know which day and what time.

I am getting so excited. I actually, finally, started packing this weekend. Also, I found a dress for formal night! And it will look good with black gloves and maybe even a tiara!

I have been lurking and probably read all 1107 posts. Thanks for the great information and redneck laughs. So far we have not booked any excursions (taking everything low key with DD4 and DS2). I still need to go to www.fanastyfest.net for Key West, but I do not think that is the education I need on this vacation-haha I am going to check out Pamela's website for information about the ruins but probably just going to do beaches and pools on ship.
We leave in 7 days because we will be staying 4 days beforehand at the Wilderness Lodge. MNSSH on Friday with pirates costumes for all ( DH, myself and DS and Ariel for DD)
Thanks again for the great information-- looking forward to resting on the cruise. Quick questions:
Pamela- Did you get an answer about the bubbles for sail away? Our past 2 sail away parties I just remember lots of people but bubbles sound like fun.
Everyone- Is anyone planning on going to Afternoon Tea? DH does not want to go but it sounds like fun.

Enjoy packing :->

Amy, we took bubbles on one cruise. They are fun, but not sure I will find some and get them packed. There is plenty going on, anyway. Tea is the major thing I have found difficut to get ressies for. If I get a chance via the REAS package, I will book it. Want me to add you? We got a reservation once. We got there early to book Palo once and did manage to get a tea booking, but it conflicted with my mother's hair appointment. I put myself and her on a waiting list for another time, but never got in. There are very few times available, most booked by the suite guests.

Good evening Ladies!

Since you are the only ones who may understand this, I am going to do my rejoicing here ... I have finally found a "dressy" hairstyle that goes with a tiara!!!

I had _long_ hair until June 2003. (At least 1/2 way down my back since I was a child) Now it is just barely shoulder length and I didn't have any idea how to do anything dressy with it. The few events I've attended since it was cut, I just curled the ends and pulled it back to one side - OK - but it would not work with a tiara. I have literally tried DOZENS of different things and just now finally found something I like (and I can actually do)! I even checked some books out of the library on hair styles trying to do this. It sounds stupid, but I was so excited to have found something, that I had to share it with someone. (DH wasn't any fun, his entire comment = "Good, now you can stop fussing with it.")

I cannot believe how long it is taking me to pack - I started Saturday and am still working on it as I have time....

Only 7 more work days until vacation starts! Zip-ah-dee-do-dah!

Back to the hair. You guys are lucky if you can settle on a style ahead of time. My hair is kinky-curly, but only when it is humid. What it looks like in Colorado has no relation to what it will look like in Florida or the Caribbean.

Hmmm, Karaoke...

Yes, they always give you a shot before you 'sing'; liquid courage, as they call it. :drinking1

Problem is, karaoke only lasts for an hour, and by the time things get going, there's only time for a few songs. Just when people are getting into it (drunk enough, I mean!), they shut it down. But it's still fun. Nothing like watching Tim sing Frank Sinatra!

"Yes, I'll have the smoked chicken wings with onion rings, bring me 2 of those please. Then I'll have the snapper, and I guess the tenderloins too. For dessert..."

Sorry, just practicing. ;)

No Karoke for me! I am the kind that likes to blend in with the walls. Waaaay to shy for something like that. I don't even think that liquid courage could even begin to help a person like me!! But....now Heidi on the other hand is NOT like her mother!

Hair......another kinky curly hair here. I call it my cruise hair. Very uncontrollable. I am like Carla. My hair is nice here in Colorado but in FL and on the cruise there is nothing, I mean nothing that helps me. I wash and dry it right before the pics and PRAY that I will be presentable by the time I get there from the room. That is NO lie. One lady on CC told me, face it....you are going to have to start wearing a hat. "but, but, I don't always look like this" RonnieJo, aren't you the one with red hair? I think reheads are doomed for cruising hair.

A cold rainy day in CO. My FIL lives about 15 minutes away and got snow. Guess it is that time of year!

Beano, how funny. Heidi orders like that, too.

yeah, DCL really needs to rethink how they schedule the adult entertainment..
Karaoke is only an hour, the list is never that good and it is either in the middle of the tropical deck party or on the last night when everyone is packing! Hmmm....not too smart I think! ;)

I am always up for some fun! I cannot wait....lots to do and not much time left.

We leave next Friday afternoon to drive to WDW and meet up with our friends for dinner and a night of candy and rides! :yo-yo:

Too bad we're not staying together after the MNSSHP - no candy auction this year. :(

Well, I have to work this weekend; hopefully I won't be too overwhelmed and I can get some packing done at some point.
I still have to pick out my clothes too. 2 or 3 tank tops, a few tropical print shirts, and some shorts. That oughtta cover it!
Sound about right, Tim? :teeth:

Well, I didn't have anything major to say, but wanted to see my countdown ticker!

Pamela...that's fabulous about the hair style. I'm in the process of stretching my tiara band so I don't get a migraine after the first five minutes. The black gloves are ready, now I just have to pack the rest of my gear. I fear the snorkels are under the Christmas decorations and I may need to rent a backhoe to get at them.

I have to be at least marginally cocktailed to do karaoke, although I did get dragged up on stage with the dueling piano guys at Barrel of Laughs on the Wonder. It was my birthday, and when they found out I was originally from New Yawk they made me do the song and kickline, top hat and all, to New York, New York. (A song I despise, by the way.) Of course, now we sing "My kind of town, Chicago is".

Once at Kahunaville in Vegas (Treasure Island) John and I won this dating game thing in the bar and got a 25 dollar alchohol and food voucher. We burned that off in about five minutes on sesame chicken satays and enormous Jimmy Buffett-style Boat Drinks with pipe cleaner flamingos and palm trees sticking out of them.

Speaking of Buffett, any Parrotheads in the group making the pilgrimage to Sloppy Joe's and Margaritaville in Key West? We've been to Margaritaville in Orlando and had our wedding rehearsal dinner at the new Margaritaville in Vegas this past June, but are very excited about visiting the one in Key West.

Moved the horses today to a better place where they have more room to terrorize each other and the resident pony. It's a bit further from our house, but a better arrangement for them. The neighborhood is classier than ours, too.

I did find both lime green Disboards tshirts, so John and I will be sporting them at the sailaway party in lieu of a giant lime green tourguide flag or umbrella for easy identification.

Wow...it's really, really getting close.

Whew....that took a while to catch up on. LOL You guys have been busy today! :)

Kamy, make that 3 fun dips! And Beano...I'll trade you all the Junior Mints you want!

RonnieJo, I've got naturally curly hair too...after our first cruise, I learned not to fight it...now I rarely use a blow dryer while onboard...just a little anti-friz serum, scrunch and go. :) A lot less time getting ready...and a lot more time partying! :) Although, now with my new haircut, blowdrying isn't so bad either...about 5 mins and I'm all done. LOL Gotta love short hair. :)

Have no idea what I'm doing with my hair for formal night...not much to work with...maybe I'll pick up some cute sparkly hair clips or a hair band. One more weekend to do any shopping...and packing!!!

Tarzanman has a spoon growing out of his head, Beano has mismatched shoes...man oh man...this is going to be fun!

Ok...gotta hit the sack...I need to get all the sleep I can now so I don't need as much on board. :)

Margaritaville and Sloppy Joes sound cool, but drinks there are expensive. There are a number of little local places with great drinks much cheaper...I mean, you gotta go to those places so you can say you did... maybe have one drink...and move on....

Anyone else having brain malfunctions lately? I find myself so preoccupied with the cruise preparations, the DIS Boards and day dreaming that my brain has pretty much shut down all other functions. LOL I almost answered the phone at work today...

"Thank you for calling Disney Cruise Line...I'll be cruising in a 9 days, how can I help you?" :faint:

Cheri....you won't mind if I sing along with "Redneck Woman" from the sidelines while you're on...lol...now that I'm in "jawjuh" I feel a sense of "redneck" belonging. :) LOL

Hello...

The M'villes in Orlando and Las Vegas are cool places to hang out for at least one drink and to people watch, as the atmosphere is great, and very suitable for Key West. They play Jimmy Buffett Music, show videos, and the one in Vegas has this Bikini clad lady who slides down a volcano into a giant Margarita glass, filled with faux drink. (My 8 year step son has fallen in love with her.)

JB is an inspiration to all slightly balding, chubby 40 to 50 year olds...;-)

The food is good but very expensive, but as you would expect they have great T shirts.

This weekend is packing time, I have found the fins and snorkel :-)

See you all very soon

I have a huge favor to ask everyone...

My DH, Steve a.k.a. BikerDuck, works for Costco as a manager overseeing night stocking. So he works terrible hours, anywhere from Midnight - 4pm, usually 12 - 14 hour shifts, at minimum 5 days a week. He's been on these horrific hours for over 2 years and it's taken it's toll. If you see him up past 8pm on the cruise...it'll be a miracle..lol...his internal clock will be fighting with him the whole cruise I'm sure.

Anyway...we took the transfer to GA in hopes of him getting a better position, to get him off the floor and those terrible hours.

Well...a position opened up recently that would do just that! It would not only be a promotion, but also get him into their regional office, working Mon - Fri, 9 - 5. Daylight living instead of Night-of-the-Living Dead...

So, here's my request...let's test the powers of prayer...

Please include my DH in your prayers, that he will get this position.

The position will be posted for all applicants to apply until 10/22 - then they will start interviewing. He's turning his application in this week, hopes he'll get interviewed before we leave...and then get the good news when we return.

Thanks everyone!

Geez, what a day!! Work was beyond crazy, so the next few days before we leave, I will be SWAMPED.

Then, DW called me...

Our SUV needed to go into the dealer because the rear axle is puking oil all over the place. It has 16K miles on it, and the tires are shot too. And since we have to drive to L.A. (200 miles) to catch our plane, we need it fixed NOW.

Then I came home...

The 52" DLP Mitsubishi TV I bought less than 2 months ago DIED. Dead as hell. And since today is friday, I can't get a technician until monday, so we are without our TV all weekend, and probably longer. Hey, whattya want for $4500 anyway?

Hi all...

Well, we are without our car until Tuesday night, and we leave for vacation Wednesday!:o

Here's hoping they fix it right! LOL

Cheri - the gym on board is pretty nice. There are about 6 treadmills and 3 or 4 bikes, as I recall. Also weight machines and free weights. There are TV's above the treadmills, or you can just look out at the water! I plan to hit the treadmill at least 3 or 4 times during the cruise, early in the mornings. I figure, to burn off the previous day's calories, I'll only need to run the treadmill for, oh, 7 hours or so. ::yes::

I still can't figure out why they don't serve beer in the gym. :p

I'll tell ya, we will ALL be ready for some R&R come Wednesday night! Between now and then we have dr.'s appts., dentist appts., broken cars to fix, broken tv's to fix, and 5 funerals!!

(I just love the smell of formaldahyde in the morning!!)

Hey Beano & Renee...

Wow, sounds like you guys have your hands full between now and Wednesday. Hang in there...all that matters is that you make it to WDW/DCL!

Renee - How did the Band Comp go? I'm interested in knowing too...I did color guard and flag corp for a couple years in high school. Loved the competitions but Choir took over and was more my passion, so dropped out to focus more on that. I remember our director use to tell us that when you're on the field during a competition, if a judge gets in your way during a formation change....MOW HIM/HER OVER! It's their fault anyway...always wanted one to get in my way just so I could smack them in the head with my flag pole...lol...never happend, but a friend of mine on bass got to roll right over one judge during one competition, it was the funniest thing. :):rotfl:

Okay, I know I said I wouldn't do anymore shopping for the cruise, but I just HAD to find one more thing and got lucky with a couple more clearance items! :) Although, spent all day out shopping with a friend, and didn't get anything done at home...no cleaning, no packing...ugh, now I'm going to have to do it all Sunday...oh, that's today...lol...guess I'd better get to sleep!

:rockband: WOO-HOO!!!

DS's marching band and color guard placed FIRST in the marching competition and SECOND for their field show (which happens to be the music from The Pirates of the Carribbean) :).......and in the process endured a 17 hour day!!!!! I think that shows a lot of commitment on their part!

The next few days are gonna be nuts with all that needs to happen , but we'll git r dun!!!!

Thanks for asking about how competition went:hyper:

WALKING, are you ladies nuts!, oh wait, i was gonna try to run at least a mile, i know that sounds ambitious, but we have to have goals right, just hopefully my beer doesn't spill from my hat as i am running. Vacations are supposed to be relaxing, but that seems to be about the only time that i can get to the gym or run. Usually only run 60 feet at a time, sometimes 120, or 180, or if i am really lucky all 240 at once. Well going to sit down and fill out forms and make a list, and check it twice. Also is everyone getting dressed up for mnsshp, was thinking about some costumes, but not quite sure of what the final product will be yet. Have a great sunday everyone

Well I am home from work, hopefully for the rest of the day, but that remains to be seen. Gotta do some packing today, since there will be no time to do it tomorrow or tuesday. I'm busier at work now than I have been in months. Go figure! :p

Tim and I walked/jogged around the ship a few times last year. I think I might just stick to the treadmills this year. Or maybe I'll just jog down to the bar!::yes::

 Hi All

Well since I was wihtout my car (and still will be until Tuesday:mad: ) I started putting all our clothes into suitcases. I was proud that I was able to get ALL my daughters clothes into 1 small suitcase (excluding her formal gown). Beano and I are sharing 1 large suitcase and DS gets a small one of his own. Hopefully we can get all the formal attire into 1 suitbag!!!

Now ladies, the question is: "How many pairs of shoes are too many?".......I KNOW are answers are gonna be different from the men!!!!! LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!

Can't wait to see you all SOON!!!!!

Faith..I AGREE!!! (although I am trying to do better) every year I whittle it down alittle more, so Beano shouldn't complain!::yes::

I think I am taking 7 pairs......but 2 of those are flip-flops (which shouldn't count) he he he !

kamgen
10-18-2004, 01:51 PM
Well I do think it is possible to bring too many pairs of shoes....especially dress shoes....I think it is easier to try and coordinate your dinner clothes so that you don't need 7 different pairs of shoes....In term of casual shoes, sandals/flip flops...you could justify 20+ pair, but it really isn't necessary! LOL!!
I say 2-3 pairs for dinner
1 beach pair
2-3 casual
1 workout pair (if you plan to walk/run/exercise)
and one pair that you wear at embarkation
so...no more than 8 pairs packed....
I think more than 10 pair of (packed) shoes (flip flops count!) is extreme for a week on the cruise....but who am I?! LOL!!!

There, my advice! :)

10-18-2004, 01:53 PM

sorry honey! Didn't know what you were saying!

Wow! I guess I'm not doing as bad as I thought.

2 pair dress shoes (beige & black)
1 pair white sandles
1 pair flip flops (Mickey & Minnie!)
1 pair water shoes (called "dork" shoes in our family)
1 pair athletic shoes which I am wearing for travel so I don't have to pack them.
----------------
Grand Total = 6!!!

I have been racking my brain trying to cut this down - now I feel much better about it :) Thanks:sunny:

Just FYI for the rest of the family:

Dan - 1 pair tux shoes, 1 pair black shoes, 1 pair brown shoes, 1 pair water shoes, 2 pair athletic shoes (1 packed & wearing 1) = Total 6

Darrah - 1 pair dress shoes, 1 pair sandles, 1 pair water shoes and 1 pair athletic shoes which he will wear = Total 4 (Of course, if he has any choice, he'll be barefoot as much as possible.)

Can you tell I spent the weekend packing? I am 90% done! All that is left is the last minute type stuff.

WOW, only 1-2 pairs of flip flops...maybe I need to rethink my shoe situation!!! I have flip flops for every outfit/swimsuit :p !! Okay maybe I shouldn't pack them all, but I was thinking around 4 pairs of flip flops!!!! My shoes will consist of mostly sandals and flip flops, 2 dress shoes, and 1 tennis shoe. Guessing maybe a total of 8!!!

Pamela - we call boat shoes "weany" shoes in our house!!!

DMoss3377
10-18-2004, 04:01 PM
Well...since I was talked into wearing my sneakers on embarkation day, I'll be packing 7 - 8 pairs of shoes. :)

I have them laid out but recently changed a couple of outfits I had planned on taking, so now I'm thinking I may have to either switch some out or not take some at all.

Hey - how does everyone feel about flip flops at dinner on "casual" nights...paired with a skirt or dress of course, no shorts??? I have a dress I wore at a beach wedding that we bought special flip flops for, and a couple skirts that look great with a pair or white flip flops I have...but I didn't know if that was too "casual" for dinner.

Thanks!

Kamy, Renee, Beano, Tarzan, Pat - Can't wait to see you guys!! Less than a week!!!

Ladies - By the way...Pat is AVAILABLE! :) Sorry Pat, you know I'm always looking out for you, man. :) Love ya!

Now ladies if you want to do the shopping for me, i need a few pair of socks, some silk boxers, size medium, a toothbrush, some hawaiin shirts, a costume, beads, and maybe some shorts...haha...was that a lil TMI? Me, one pair of Tevas, two sandals and my Keen walking shoes. DH gets sandals, dress and tennies. The kids get sandals and grey suede Tevas. Not counting the beach shoes and fins (do they count?) that go in the snorkel bag. Leaves more room for the way too many clothes, bottles and bottles of medicine and sunblock. And plastic bags to put between socks and wet shoes, if that should happen.

This thread will be getting quiet, no? I think my kids and I are the last to leave, after school Friday.

We can't leave until Friday night because of John's miserable Bridge over the River Kwai boss. We don't get in until late, and so are just crashing at some Hampton Inn on Palm Parkway for easy exit and escape the next morning.

I am taking 7 pair of shoes, not including my swim fins. I have special flipflops that match a Minnie/Mickey tropical sundress and I'm wearing them to Parrot Cay. Most of the other shoes are highly impractical (that's why I love them) :-)

Finally got my Disney Store CM i.d. card...(just in time to lose it) but it will still work for the cruise!!!! We plan on hitting Company D and Property Control back at WDW since this will probably be the only time I can use my card. I want to get at least a CM watch or something to commemorate this Brief Shining Moment.

Still have the sparkly jewelry and cosmetic/sunscreen type stuff to pack. I'm letting John wrestle our big white fluffy Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel bathrobes into the space bags. It is our one ridiculous luxury. We love to park ourselves out on the verandah in those robes, drink wine, and pretend we do this all the time.

I can't believe one week from now we'll be in Costa Maya. Can't WAIT to see everyone at the sailaway party.

Ladies....Don't forget your black gloves and tiaras for the glam photo shoot before second seating on formal night in the atrium outside Lumiere's! I'll feel silly there all by myself!

Ok, we are a two-car family again!

We finally got my wife's SUV back from the dealer, all fixed up and ready to roll. We leave tomorrow afternoon.:earsboy: So I guess we will keep posting until sometime tomorrow morning!

Patrick - "my tiny buttocks"?? Now that was DEFINITELY TMI!! :earseek: (Especially since mine is gigantic!) I gots to buy you some beers and fatten you up !

Anyone seen "The Day After Tomorrow"? I bought the DVD to watch on the plane... any good?

We touch down in Orlando at 3:30 PM on Thursday, and since the cruise isn't until Saturday, we are forced to spend the interim at the Poly!:hyper:

Bring on DisneyWorld!
Bring on Disney Cruise Line!
Bring me a beer.

Denise - You won't be silly all by yourself - I promise! Despite DH's groans, I have packed gloves and tiara! I have managed to get everything into the suitcases, but we did have to add a duffle bag to the mix for the snorkle gear and Darrah's life vest :( That puts us at 1 large suitcase (largest airline allows), 1 medium suitcase, 1 garment bag and 1 duffle bag. There is also a carry-on for the cameras, jewelry, medicines, etc. and possibly a small "kid carry-on" with Darrah's books & toys for the plane ride and his teddy bear. I don't think we have EVER had this much luggage for a trip! A typical WDW trip for us is 2 suitcases and 1 carry-on. At least we don't have a stroller to lug around anymore!

I printed the nametags today and finally found the self-adhesive pinbacks for them. I'll bring them to the sail-away meet and everyone can assemble their own nametag! If Beano is there, I'll give him any of the extras that don't make it to that meet in case they come to the wine party. I only made one set, so we should try to remember to bring them to the wine party.

Well, time to go drag DS away from his latest art project and get him ready for bed - sigh....

Travel safe all of you who are heading out! We will be leaving home at 4:30am on Friday morning.

Okay, just had to share with everyone...

My darling husband surprised me tonight with an early anniversary gift...

A NEW RING...

I'd been having problems with my old set, diamonds kept falling out that were channel set, and we heard that sometimes happens, it's like dominoes, once one gets loose, they all follow suit and can fall out eventually...and I don't ever take them off.

Anyway...long story short...I have a new ring...actually it's a NEW RING!!!! And it's officially BLING, BLING....I've never owned anything like this in my life!!!

I love this man, I love this man, I love him, I love him, I love him (as pigeons circle all around us in a town square in some foriegn country). :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I'm so excited, can you tell!?!

Ah, Pamela, I knew you wouldn't let me down...and thanks again for making nametags for us all!

We have packed one huge duffle, one huge hard-sided suitcase, two carry-on rolling bags and a backpack. Oh, and we packed an empty nylon suitcase in there, too, to fill up with stuff we know we'll accumulate. It is the dress up stuff that takes up the space...all those shoes!

John and I have this Love Boat vision of us climbing back on board after Cozumel with sombreros and a pinata in a shopping bag, just like the Love Boat passengers, but happier. Then we'll wave at total strangers from the gangplank...In fact, we make watching old Love Boat episodes part of our pre-cruise ritual.

Dana...what a lovely surprise! I've got a new ring, too ;-) so we can check out each others' bling bling! Hold on to that man!

Got a million loose ends to tie up before we evacuate drizzly gray Chicagoland, including lesson plans for my college English classes (my Department Chair is subbing for me...yoiks!)

See ya real soon!

Thanks everybody...

My bosses were thoroughly impressed this morning. They said I'd probably have a hard time working today because every time I start to type, I'll get distracted by my new ring. They figure they'll walk in and catch me just zoned out staring at it. LOL

I'm still all giddy over it. :)

Beano & fam - have a safe trip and we'll be seeing you on Friday!

I've still got to pack, which I plan to do tonight, then tie up a few loose ends...try to actually work tomorrow...then, we're outta here!

Can't wait to meet everyone new and see all our old friends. This is going to be one rocking trip! One I'm sure will be hard to top.

Well, got tons to do at work today...you'd think I was going on vacation or something. LOL Oh wait...I AM!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: ::yes:: ::yes:: :hyper:
