Has anyone tried the "Don't Stop for Gas" deal with National yet? Are the prices truly competitive? Not that it makes a big difference for me, here in Chicago we're getting used to paying around $2.50 nowadays! OY!

Thanks!

We have used the feature twice with no problem. The cost was less than Disney property and airport locations for gas and very near the going rate for gas around Orlando. I highly recommend this option!!

Prepaying gas is never a good deal. Unless you can manage to bring it back completely dry (a virtual impossibility), you will always be giving the rental company a "gift" of several gallons.

Pay your own way. On the way back to the airport, take Sand Lake Road and buy gas at the Racetrac station (it'll be on your left). They generally have the lowest price in town (within a penny).

We just used this option this past Tuesday 06/05/01 and I paid $1.80/gallon through National, however I past many stations with prices at $1.53.

I will never do that again.

Kelly,

This isn't the prepaid option where you pay for a full tank of gas. It's a new option for Emerald Club members, where they charge you for the gas you used at what is supposed to be local prices. If you bring it back half empty, they only charge you for half a tank. When I was there about a month ago, the station near MK was over $1.70. I filled it myself there because I wasn't sure of the price National charged for this new service, plus I was concerned about how they "estimate" how much gas was used.

I work for a major company and National is our corporate car rental. We've had a similiar deal for years, but it's a set price nationwide, the last time I heard it was $1.65. They didn't want employees trying to hunt for gas stations in unknown areas.
