We're booked for a Category 3 right now. Best discount still was the onboard rebooking. Military and Cast discounts won't be out for another 4 months or so (They are currently out through March)
So who else is going?

While we won't be cruisetoberfest (that's the cruise before us (Hi!!) we will have a great time and hopefully can get a great thing going on here...
So who's done the western before besides us?

We will stick with our Cat 6 rooms now, since we are all right next to each other.
But would love to upgrade to a suite.
This will be our first Disney Cruise and first time to both Grand Caymen and Cozumel.

Wow, what started as a trip for 3 maybe 4 now looks like 11 or 12. Every one of our friends wants to get on board. This could be a lot of fun. And hopefully a few more DIS'ers join us. The Oct 2nd cruise seemed nice, but with the Columbus day holiday and at least 1 if not two school employees among our friends and family that extra day off for free is hard to pass up. Plus its the MIL's birthday (October 9th) and getting on the boat as a birthday present is much nicer then getting off it.
I've been in adjoining cat 5's before. They were very nice, and having the second bathroom means that 4 people can get ready at once (with the split baths) which is a big help if someone takes up a long time.

Now we just have to decide what to do for shore excursions, the same things that we loved or try something new? Only 362 days to decide :sunny:

Just got a majority of the pictures back from this years western. Apparently I had a lot of fun at C&C's in Cozumel. Interesting because I really don't remember it.
I really want to do a private boat to Stingray City on cozumel this time out. Has anyone done this before? Anyone else interested?
Obviously Jen's going to get input too into what excursions we do, but I basically feel like lounging and sailing on Castaway Cay, so snorkeling there isn't on my third trip priorities.
BTW, the Hobie Cats on castaway cay are a lot of fun. Anyone else here want to go hobie cat racing?

You'll love Grand Cayman. Cozumel might be a bit over the top for the kids (Its definitely the most aggressive hawkers I've seen in the Caribbean. They make the Nassau hair braiders look tame.

We have not thought about what to do in Key West yet, have been there numerous times already.
We would like to do Stingray City on Grand Caymen and were thinking about the dolphin swim on Cozumel.
Probably we will relax on Castaway Cay
Karen
JenKatt
10-23-2003, 09:39 PM
We did the dolphin swim in Cozumel, it was well worth it. The dolphins are amazing and it's a once in a life time opportunity.
We felt the same way about Key West, Jeff and I fly down there in a cessna for dinner sometimes. We figured we do a touristy thing and went on a catamaran racing excursion. It was a whole heck of a lot of fun.

Ok, before we confuse everyone else
This is a running gag between Myself, JenKatt, Silentshot and Gaby. We basically had some waiter believing we were twins (Jeff and Jeff) and he asked what color eyes dad had, and then what color mom had, and we said mom had no eyes and walked off.

Whoo Hoo! I'm so glad I finally found this thread! I love the new board set up!
We will be sailing also! We are a party of 3... DH, myself and our 9 y.o. DS
We sailed last year for the first time with DCL during Halloween (Western). We can't wait to go again!
Last year for excursions we did the conch train in Key West
this year we may just stay on the ship
in the Grand Cayman we did a stingray excursion. DS loved it and we will probably have to do it again (to my dismay... they freak me out!)
and my most favorite was the Beach Break in Cozumel!! It was great!
I look forward to counting down the months & days with you!!

While searching the 'net, I came across a pretty nifty shore excursion web site called www.shoretrips.com Since especially on Grand Cayman, Disney offers very little in shore excursions this web site offers a lot more. I've used them beofre for info and then researched the trips a bit more was able to booked them on my own. Hope this helps.. the tea in Grand Cayman looks really interesting

My name is Kathy and I'm going on a Disfunct....I mean Disney Cruise. Hi all :wave2: ! I'm Scubarn' sister and part of this merry tribe. Don't ask me how I got rooked in to this. All I know was that one morning I called All Seasons Travel and turned over my credit card number. We should be a fairly harmless group. I think the worse will be the Grandmothers complaining that one of the kids need socks on (inside joke).
This is my first Disney Cruise. I'v been to Key West before, so no biggie. I was to Cozumel when the only people who knew about Cozumel were divers and everything was in Spanish. I've never been to Grand Cayman.
Looking forward to getting to know you all over the next few months.

Do I really need to post my info? Ok here goes.
I'm 28 (be 29 by the cruise), I'm a network administrator for a non-profit organization. I work at WDW on the weekends as a monorail pilot and I'm pretty much a geek. My past times are computers, cars, flying planes and nerf.
I'm a disney addict (and in particular tigger). I'll be traveling with JenKatt (my lovely DW), my father and his wife, my DMIL, and possibly DBIL. Other possibles include my best friend and some of her friends as well as my boss and his family.

Nothing wrong with being a geek. And it is a lot of fun. There aren't exactly a lot of Monorail Pilots in the world so it definitely is a unique experience.
It is kind of funny how many people are impressed with the job. I see it as playing with a 14 mile long electric train set on the weekends, but I'm definitely one of the more knowledgeable pilots out there (other cast members send guests to me with the very difficult questions about the trains) .
I'm also a very big Disney addict, in particular the Walt Disney World resort.

Hi, missed this thread earlier. I will be traveling with DH, DD 10 and DD 4. We were on the Eastern this past June and had a real good time. This is our first Western. Any suggestions for excursions? We will be flying in the day before and staying at the Radisson. Anyone else?
ennazus

Although I haven't made a reservation yet, we will probably be staying at the Radisson. We did that last time and it worked out well with their shuttle to the port. :)
JenKatt
11-14-2003, 09:30 PM
I don't know what we'll be doing the night before, my inalws and my mom have to fly down from NJ and I'm not sure if they'll fly into Tampa or into Orlando and we'll stay at an airport hotel up there.
As far as excursions, we really enjoyed the Catamaran racing in Key West, horseback riding in Grand Cayman and the dolphin royal swim in Cozumel. I think this year we'll dot he sea lion swim and then Mr Sancho's in Cozumel. Probably going to do tea in Grand Cayman, possibly after horseback riding again, and FIL wants to do the pub scavenger hunt in Key West.
Who knows!

My dds are 11 and 14 and we have never cruised before. My 14 year old is alittle hesitant and doesn't know if she'll like the cruise. The 11 year old can't wait. The cruise was my parent's idea. We have vacationed together before and a few years back, we all rented a large RV and traveled out West to see Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Navajolands. ::yes:: :sunny:

Greetings all - we posted on the beginning pages of the thread, but I have just now sent an e-mail to Tigfanjeff with our information.
One excursion we want to try is the Stringray City. Any recommendations would be welcome. Tigfanjeff mentioned renting a private boat as well.
This is our second cruise. Previous was an Eastern this past June.
Did any others who booked early get a letter from Disney? It re-iterated how wonderful each of the ports were, and built everything up. From the tone, I know there was going to be bad news at the end, and there was regarding the cost. It seemed one location had raised their Port fee, and the cost was going to rise $1 per person. I laughed out loud. Seemed like a lot of effort to explain a total of $4 increase for the total cost.

I didn't get a letter from Disney... I booked roughly April, 2003
Did you book through a travel agent or directly through Disney? I booked with Dreams Unlimited.
Surely seems like Disney could have eaten the $1.00 fee instead of sending out letters! LOL

We booked directly through Disney while we were on board this past June. Could be that DU got the letter and is eating the $1.

Hi there,
try this link: Captain Marvin's (http://www.captainmarvins.com) . We did it and liked it very much. It was about $40 per person. It was a 5-minute walk from the place where the tender put us ashore and from there they shuttled us over to the boat with some nice vans. Enroute they told some trivia about the islands and made a short stop at the Governor's residence.
We then took the boat out to three different locations. We snorkeled at the first location, then went to Stingray City, where we waded in about 3-4 feet deep water and interacted with the stingrays, and finally we pulled over to the last snorkeling location about 400 yards from Stingray City. The whole thing lasted about 3-4 hours and we had a blast. The provided water and fruitjuice and had all the equipment on board: Fins, masks and snorkels. Additionally we were accompanied by a video photographer in scuba-gear who taped everything. You could order the film either on VHS for $59 or on DVD for $66. Stiff price, but it was worth it. They managed to send it from Grand Cayman to Germany within 10 days.
For the tour-reservation you have to supply them with your creditcard# to hold it, but you pay at the shop before the cruise. Back at the shop everyone gets a rum-cake and 10% on everything in the shop.
The tour leaves you with plenty of time for shopping before heading back to the ship.

Been a while since I posted, I've been in and out of my mind getting ready for the mousefest events at WDW.
As far as renting a boat at stingray city is concerned, my dad's wife can't swim so we'd need to make sure she could still be accomodated. I'm sure she could. Also, we'd definitely think that we'd get a better deal with more people on a boat and probably a better boat too, but I'd definitely be open to anyone's recommendations. I think it would be a better and more fun trip in one small boat. Our only personal requirement is that we get back for afternoon tea on the island, which shouldn't be a problem.

Hi everyone,
Just booked Oct 9th 7 nt western. This will be our 2nd Disney cruise. Did Wonder 4 nt this Oct and liked it so much we have decided to do 7 nts. My name is Wayne my wife is Karen and our 9 (10 in Oct) year old son is Mathew. We come from UK and try to spend around 5 or 6 weeks a year in Orlando. Think that covers everything.

We will be on the Oct 9th cruise. We have 4 kids including DD13 on 10/8/04 and DD15 (when we cruise). We will be in rooms 7507 and 7505. (cat10s) My DD15 is also very shy, but would love to make some internet friends before we cruise again. We cruised on the Wonder this past Oct and she was kind of lost until the last day when she met up with another teen DIS member and then she had a blast.

This thread was moving too far down the list, so I am taking this opportunity for a bump. Since I normally don't like shameless bumps, I will also pose a question.
Anyone with DD in either the 8-9 year range or the 5-7 year range? Last cruise, DD's :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc were both in the 5-7 club, which made it very comfortable for them to go since they automatically knew each other. They also met fellow dis'r's DD6:Pinkbounc .
Just the fact they knew someone made it very easy for them to go to the club. Once there, they had a great time. Ironically, they wouldn't necessarily be playing with each other or the other girl once there, they just needed something to help get them into the club.
Thanks.

Jeff,
the water in Stingray City is just hip-deep and you stay within 10 yards of the boat. At the other two locations the water is deeper, about 10 feet, but perhaps she could float around with a buoyancy vest - or just stay on the boat.

We're booked!!! I just talked with the TA and we are confirmed on this cruise for a category 6, cabin #6070. It will be myself (Mom), DH, and DDs 7 & 11 (at time of cruise). The DDs would love to get acquainted virtually with other cruisers their age before the cruise. Please PM me if your children are interested in this. At this point, we're thinking of the following excursions:
Key West - deep-sea fishing for DH, general hanging out/touring for us girls
Cozumel - Tulum Ruins (a must do for DD11, who is very in to archaeology!)
Grand Cayman - Stingray City and Island Tour
Castaway Cay - relaxation!
We are beyond excited about this cruise and cannot wait - we're only a few weeks from the 9 month-mark!

Hi wayneg
I'm sure you will enjoy the 7 day cruise and WOW three weeks on vacation! The weather last October was awesome...not a bad day and the water was still warm and calm except in the gulfstream. It was our first cruise and it was great but my kids didn't want to get off the ship the last day. The days just flew by. We live just north of Orlando about 1 hour from Port Canaveral and our kids have fall break during that time but it didn't seem like the ship was really full last year. By the activity on this thread I'm thinking UPGRADE and a really good Fl. resident rate!
I think I have read on other threads that the limo service is very good for transportation from the port. I remember reading something about discounts or coupons somewhere...if I come across some information I will pass it on.

Well no wonder the main dining seating is full already!! I had no idea so many people were on the Oct 9th sailing.
I also will be on the Wonder along with about 10-15 other adults for my wedding at Castaway Cay!

We should be going also (if all works out as planned). It's me, DH, DS (10 at the time), DD (4). I expect to be traveling with friends, with DD (4), DS (2) & oldest DS & DIL & GD (1). We are on deck 7. Still trying to decide on excursions good for all of us (or as many as we can make happy). Seems that this cruise will be very full since the Wonder will be in dry dock. Hoping for FL resident rates etc. but don't think there will be any that week (thought this date showed up on the DVC value season rate list)

Hi Michelle!
Yes, my son did come w/ us last year and he loved the club. We had a hard time getting him out. However, I'm not sure he partcipated in a lot of the activities. He's the type of kid that gets bored w/ group singing/dancing, ect. Lol...all he really wanted to do was run around, play on the equipment, and computers. Every night at dinner(we had early seating) we would take him to the club at 7:30 because he started getting restless at the meals. That worked out great.

I know we had to get the late dinner seating cause the early was full. Does anyone know how old you have to be for the dolphin swim? Which port is it offered? Also are ya all doing Palos? Our girls were the same ages as yours when we went on our first cruise. They are in the same age group for Oceaneer's Club, which helped a lot. You all will have a great time.
It's been said that any room on board the ship is a good location. I would have to agree with that. Deck 5 is close to everything, lets you avoid the elevators if you want.
In Cozumel, there is a Dolphin Discovery. This is for ages 3 and up, but it clearly says, it is NOT a Dolphin Swim. There may be a Dolphin Swim you can do on your own (or it could be I just missed it in the Excursion book).
Palo signups are happening just after you board. Ask where when you check in.

How is everyone doing at their planning? Excursions picked out, anticipated night for Palo, how much time are the kids going to spend in the club ;) ...
We have yet to book where we will stay the night before. Last year we stayed at the Radisson, and had a Dis meet Friday night by the pool. It was great to meet others before getting to the terminal. When we arrived at the terminal, we saw lots of familiar faces, and even waited in line with some of the other families.
What are others doing the night before?

Hi ,Our plans are: staying at the Radisson Friday night

:Sting Ray city with Captain Marvins (all booked)
: Royal swim with the Dolphins in Cozumel( all booked)
Generally having a good time and relaxing!:sunny:

You'll hjave so much fun on the Royal Swim, we did that last year. Make sure to buy the video from the swim. While expensive,. it's well done and worth it.

Getting past that 200 day milestone is pretty exciting! We're looking at the following excursions, but haven't finalized our plans:
Key West - trolley tour, possible jet ski for DH
Cozumel - Tulum Ruins
Grand Cayman - Island Tour & Snorkeling w/ Stingrays (DCL)
Castaway Cay - maybe bottom fishing for DH
Our DDs are getting excited about the clubs and have met a few girls their age through the boards (hi all!). I imagine they will go to selected activities.
Is anyone else considering doing MNSSHP the night before the cruise (assuming they have it then)? We're really hoping that works out... we're flying in on Friday anyway and it would be *perfect* timing to just head to WDW, go to MNSSHP (our first time) and then head out for a magical cruise the next morning. If that doesn't work out, we'll probably book at the Radisson.

JenKatt
03-24-2004, 06:35 AM
You should probably be thinking about it. Most shore excursions will still have space available when you board, but it's better, and less stressful to at least have an idea before you board, if not have already booked.

Hi Gang, What exactly is MNSSHP? I'm confused!?? And do any of you have suggestions for excursions with kids age 5 & 6? I'm not sure the stingray triip would be worth it as dd is very reluctant about such things. Is the Dolphin trip suited for kids this age? I could sure use the advice! Thanks!

Hi KyBuckeye
It stands for Mickeys not so scary halloween party. If you havn't been with your 5&6 year olds, don't miss it. We have been for last 3 years and thinking about it again this year (more for us than our 10 year old).

There are different dolphin encounters. There are ones suited better for kids, I think the one affiliated with Disney would be the best since you stay on a platform instead of swimming in the water with the dolphins.
MNSSHP is not to be missed, it truly is wonderful!

At The Magic Kingdom. Park closes around 6pm they get everyone out then reopen for MNSSHP around 7pm. They do this for about 12 nights in October.

It takes place at the Magic Kingdom. It's a hard ticket event meaning it happens after normal park hours and requires seperate admission.

I really want to do the stingrays in Grand Caymen, almost booked with Capt Marvins, but DH thinks DD3 and DS5 will be scared.

Is Ron Jons a cool place? It seems everyone talks about it! Should we stay there? I also would like to do some kind of dolphin encounter, but my daughters are 5&7, not sure if there is an age requirement. Also where is the best stop to snorkle? Can kids snorkle? also wouldnt mind doing a boat ride, island party thing , hopefully that made sense!

The MNSSHP dates at the link above are from last year - this year's dates have not yet been released. Board wisdom has it that they will be released at the end of April. I'm hopeful that Friday the 8th will be on the list so that we can go!

Like I had said before, it probably won't be an issue to do the Disney Dolphin encounter at Cozumel. There's no swimming, you stay on a platform.
We really liked the catamaran racing in Key West, that was a blast. Also, the horseback riding in Grand Cayman was great.

Wayne, thanks for letting me in on the abbreviation! And thanks for any excursion advice. I know my kids would love the dolphin encounter, but I'm still on the fence with the stingray thing. I believe my 6 yr old daughter would be terrified and probably stay in the boat the entire time. Would also love to see some ruins but it seems the trips are all day ones and don't really want to spend the entire day doing that. So many decisions!

Hello everyone - I had a question for Surfergirl - I am trying to book Royal Swim in Cozumel and was wondering what time you chose? I read earlier that you are a party of 4 - possibly 6 and I'm not sure how many they allow at each time. I hope I can still get in - did you have any problems getting your booking? Who did you book through? Thanks for the help.

Jeff and I booked the royal swim a few months out, Jeff and Gaby booked while we were embarking at Port Canavral. Orginally, they had a 3 pm swim, but were able to move into our swim time when we checked in. Our swim was at noon. There were 6 of us in the swim.

WDWgirls- We booked directly online at their site www.dolphindiscovery.com and had a prompt reply from Marian Davies.
There are 4 of us and they only allow 8 people per Royal swim. I don't know how booked up it is but our first choice of 11:00 was full so we have 2pm booked.
I would try right away if you are interested.

After spending a few months with other things, the cruise is now the next big thing on my horizon. Trying to figure where I want to go scuba diving is now the big thing. I've been told grand cayman is the better choice (between cozumel and grand cayman) but diving at grand cayman leaves little time for other activities while the late departure from cozumel changes that.
Sigh...
Its good to have these kind of problems though.
traycie2201
04-26-2004, 06:20 AM
Hi Tigfanjeff i'm pretty sure both have great dive spots, but apart from the snorkelling / diving etc on GC there's not that much else to do apart from Hell / Turtle farm whereas there seems to be quite a lot to do at Cozumel so i guess it depends on what else you want to fit in your day on which spot you choose, i'm sure either will be fantastic.
See you there , 5 1/2 months to go YIPEEEEEEEE

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking. I want to lean toward GC and save Cozumel for other activities. We did go horseback riding on the North Side of the island last time and it was great too, but the time on GC is short compared to Cozumel.

The shore excursions on GC also seem to be a lot less. Meaning that there is very little variety. Where is at Cozumel I think In could spend a week and still not do everything

I wholeheartedly endorse the catamaran racing as a lot of fun that doesn't take much time. Plus it departs right from the ship so when you get back its a five minute walk to get a shower and enjoy the rest of key west.

Diversions is a bar that replaced the comedy club. Its kind of like a lower scale cadillac lounge. I definitely feel more at home there. Plus they have guiness on tap. (FYI, I'm the first guest ever to have Guiness Draught on a Disney cruise.)
It was added to the ship during the last dry dock when they did all the moving around of things.

I don't know about not being allowed in without a costume, but I definitely think they should only hand out treats to people in costume. (Says the person who never went in costume and happily abused all the treats).

I'd love to go fishing, but frankly I'm bad luck on fishing boats. If my dad was still going, he'd go in a heartbeat, but alas he had to cancel since he's moving to Davenport from NJ this summer. He'll at least get a good dose of the mouse ;)

The website is up. Feel free to send me the pertinent information (As much or as little as you'd like) and a picture.
The site is http://www.tiggerfan.net/DISaster
I'm not going to post e-mail since we can all use PM here and I don't feel like having people get spam. You can e-mail me at jeffc@tiggerfan.net and put October Cruise Info in the subject line.
You can also send me a PM here with the relevant info.

I've also added a DIS events listing. Again, e-mail or PM me to get on it. *PLEASE* don't e-mail anything that is small or informal or that you don't want the world to know about.
If you wan't to hold a DIS shuffleboard event, by all means, post it on my list. If you want another group for high tea, just post here.

I would like to take a moment and introduce myself and my DW who have just swapped onto this cruise. This will be my DW's (Mina) first time at sea. As for me I have plenty of time at sea, but all of that was on an aircraft carrier almost 20 years ago now. This will be about the first trip without the children and we are looking forward to it.

Welcome chuck. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I was on the Forrestal. Spent about half my time as R Division Officer. There is nothing quite like driving an aircraft carrier.

Heh, no kidding.
Thats probably one license I'll never collect. (I joke that I collect licenses, I've been an EMT, Monorail Pilot, Ham Radio Operator and Airplane pilot so far, and working on my Scuba Cert).
It will definitely be nice to have you join us.
I'm hoping you weren't on board back in 67 were you?

I'm impressed, someone knows the other nickname for the ship. No, I served in the mid-80's. Although when we were in the shipyards in Philly, you could still see some of the damage. There is also nothing more impressive than seeing a carrier on the blocks and looking up from under the keel.

Yeah, the USS Forrest Fire. Don't put APU's next to missiles.
That would be amazing seeing that thing out of water.
Being only 29, I've only seen all the documentaries etc, but I hear they are *STILL* using that incident for training in the Navy.
