Yup, Costa Maya is confirmed, does anyone know if this is a docking or tendering port? I really enjoyed Grand Cayman last trip but I guess I'll get back there eventually.

We've had a LOT of updates to the cruise list and there is a pre-cruise meet & greet for everyone staying at the Radisson. Details are on the events page at http://www.tiggerfan.net/DISaster

From what i can make out from the pictures of the port it's a dock not a tender, anyone any ideas what excursions to do ?

DW & DS fancy horseback riding but unfortunately my diet hasn't gone to plan so I am over the weight limit. Havn't seen anything else to interest us in CM, was looking forward to Sting rays in GC.
Will probably just walk round for a while then get back on to enjoy ship activities.

From what I've read, its a docking port that was built for the cruise lines, very touristy in its buildup. I also read the nearby town was worth the taxi ride over to take a look at.

We'll be doing our beach horseback riding that was cancelled since we aren't getting into Grand Cayman and then we'll figure it out. Should be a lot of fun at least.

Hello everyone - I just received a phone call from Ron Jon Resort offering to send me info on the local area. I asked them if this means they will be open and she said yes - they will just have fewer rooms available. I'm going to have to call back though because now I'm wondering if all the facilities (pool, miniput, movies) will still be available. If not I will keep my AKL ressie. Only 18 more days!!!

I read on another thread that Debbie the dining coordinator hinted that we might not be going to Costa Maya. Of coarse she didn't say where else we might be going......I called DCL asking when Disney excursions would be available - she said not until we board! Do you know how stressful that is for an Obsessive compulsive planner such as myself! ;) I think I need to take a deep breath..

I also got a call on my answering machine from Ron Jons today. So I guess it is safe to assume that our reservations are good for thurs and fri nite. I called yesterday just to get a update but the reservationist didn't have ANY information on anything (room conditions, pool conditions)
Saw something from Dave of Marietta (DCL tribute) on another thread that Ron Jons was not taking new reservations until Nov. HMMM...sure hope their pools are operational since that is why I chose Ron Jons.

Have also just read that we may not go to costa maya, i really don't mind where we go as long as i know where it is and can plan something for the day, i think it's a bit unfair to leave us to the day of sailing to announce excursions etc ( as we all know we can book cheaper non dcl) but won't have time to plan anything, i understand that it must be a major hassle for DCL but by now they will have negotiated with whatever port they are using for the next 3 weeks and should be able to keep us updated, if it wasn't for this site i wouldn't have a clue about any changes as DCL / DVC havent' been in touch, it's been a godsend.

I don't think I am booking an excursion ahead of time (if we go to Costa Maya:rolleyes: ). I read that there are taxi's that will take you anywhere, including the ruins. I am interested in the Monkey Farm. Has anyone heard of this? It is free, but they do appreciate donations. From what I read, they rehabilitate monkeys (spider monkeys I think) to put them back into the wild. Some are cage because they will attack humans, but I heard that others roam freely and you can pick them up and hold them. This would be really nice for my DD, she wants to be a zoologist when she is older. Not sure where else we will go, either the ruins (the Monkey Farm is on the way to the ruins) or the beach, which I heard was awesome.:)

BTW, finally doing the document dance!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :thewave: :cloud9: :boat:

Here is what I recd from *************- I will email them to see if they have the times for Costa Maya

Due to damage from Hurricane Ivan the itinerary for your Disney Cruise has
changed to:

Saturday - Port Canaveral
Sunday - Key West
Monday - At Sea
Tuesday - Costa Maya
Wednesday - Cozumel
Thursday - At Sea
Friday - Castaway Cay
Saturday - Port Canaveral

The ship will not call on Grand Cayman.

When phone calls went out to people cancelling their early Oct reservations at Ron Jon's I made a ressie at AKL. I felt a little better when I got a phone call from Ron Jons offering the tourist info but then on another thread a poster with a 10/29 reservation couldnt get them to confirm they would be open. They told him they would call if not open. It puts me in a bind since you have to cancel AKL 5 days out. Can anyone confirm Ron Jons being open. Anyone heard if the pool, slide, miniput etc. is open. It was the reason for wanting to go there.

By the way - its so good to be posting again - I was in NY for most of the summer with very limited computer access. I was having DIS withdrawals!! Then when we got home we changed our internet provider so I had to re-register (originally WDWgirls) I missed my disboards.::yes::

We have the Tulum tour booked for Cozumel right now, but I plan to switch to the Cavern Exploration & Beach Tour there since we are going to Costa Maya. From what I've read, the Costa Maya ruins will be more our speed. You can apparently climb on them (a no-no at Tulum) and they are in a natural jungle setting - the tours I've seen listed for other cruise lines look pretty cool. This is a must-do for DD11!

JenKatt
09-24-2004, 07:24 AM
It's not global warming. It's a cycle of hurricanes. From 1920ish to 1970 we had a cycle of very abd hurricanes. Then they stopped. And untl 2 years ago Florida only had sporadic hits by hurricanes. The cycle has begun again.
Global warming has had no effect on this per NOAA and the Hurricane Center.

Thanks for the listing of the excursions but I must say I'm disappointed in the lack of things to do with the kids in my DD 8 age bracket.

I'm still trying not to be heartsick over the GC disaster because of purely personal reason but I am even more so over reading these items to book.

Well I'm glad the fun is mainly on the ship.

I agree with you Kiki. I really had my heart set on Stingray City. However, the same agent said that the whole beach on GC was eroded away. It sounds like more than a few weeks will be needed to fix it. I guess that means that we'll just need to come again. (although, not in hurricane season...lol)

Ahoy Mateys,

Just reposting after years of absence since last cruise (8/01). We are set for 10/9/04 Western Carib cruise as well. I am too sad that GC is off the itenary. Latest word is GC will be ready for visitors in January 2005 with some resorts opening sooner for the holidays.

Costa Maya is suppose to have great snorkeling down in the fishing village of Mahajual. The school in Mahajual also needs school supplies. No need to contact head. Just drop stuff by the school on your way. Taxi in and walk back along the beach. Your generosity will be appreciated.

Haven't had time to read all the posts, but understand there is a "pirates in the caribbean" party scheduled. I am seriously looking forward to that. "Yo Ho, A pirate's life for me."

Prayers to all in Florida for fair winds and calm seas. I will bring my tourist dollars to be plundered.

there is a link to costa maya forum here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=169

if you scroll down there are messages about supplies to the schools and how to get there, i got the info that this is a general wish list :
Elementary school:

Computer (Computadora)
Stapler (Egrapadora)
Hole-puncher (Perforadora)
Colouring pencils
sharpeners
erasers
pens

She also noted: All the material that you bring will help in the education of the children of the Vicente Kay Chan Primary School, Mahahual Q. Roo, Mexico.

Middle School:

Spanish/English Dictionaries
Notebooks (Libretus)
Coloring books, craft paper - unsure of translation of Coloros.
Calculators (Calculadoras)
White writing paper, like lined paper (Hojus blancas)

jenschaef1
09-27-2004, 09:32 AM
Another great link that has pictures of the Majahaul schools is:
www.toysforkidsfoundation.org the pictures are in the web sites photo album. We are just bringing consumable items: lined paper, folders and such for the older kids, for the younger ones, more consumable artsy stuff, paint, brushes, sidewalk chalk, probably will throw some beanie babies in there. Trying to watch the weight :earseek: of the backpacks so I don't have a problem with the airlines (or my DH who will be carrying the bags.::yes:: ) If for some reason we don't get to Costa Maya, Tom at Paradise Beach collects school supplies for the children of Cozumel.

1. What are door signs?
2. When do we find out our dinner rotation?

kab407
09-27-2004, 09:34 PM
Traycie, don't you have that memorized by now?:teeth:

No door signs here. With twelve other people in my gang, I may be looking to hide. (That will be me on the deck 4 chairs with the large hat and fake nose/glasses! :jester: )

Door signs are decorations that people put on their cabin door. Most use magnetic sheet you can get at any of the office store and their computer. You'll find out your dinning rotation either when you check in and get your key card. Or, you'll have coupons waiting in your room once you get there. I've seen from other posters it's one of those two.

I think we're going to the beach on our own. From what I read on Cruise Critic, taxis are fairly inexpensive from the port over to Majahual beach. The beach and water are beautiful and the beer is cold and $2US. Food is good and safe from several of the restaurants. You can also pick up a snorkeling trip from there. This looks to be a bit cheaper then the $25 all inclusive deal. With three kids, I have no idea how long "beach day" will really be.

(My Passporter is looking pretty dogged ear also!)

Jenschaef1 - Is Ron Jons currently open? Or are they opening up in the future? Did they say when? I'm afraid they will say they are opening and then start making phone calls cancelling. Also, are the amenities still up and running? Sorry for all the questions....

Michelle:
Tuesday when I called they were closed. However, they were open between the hurricanes on a limited basis.
Today I didn't ask if they were open and I didn't ask about the amenities (although I did ask before Jeanne and tthe pools were fine). I have to admit I am a bit nervous about them calling me last minute to cancel but at this point I am going to have faith in what they are telling me, although I have checked into other hotels in the WDW area - so I know there is availability if I need it...(not a lot on site though). If I were you I would call them just to check, every time I call they ask for my name and they look up my reservation, I don't know if that is just procedure or if they are checking to see what building/floor they have us slated for and if that area of the hotel is OK (2 bed-pool building)

Just called DCL to change Cozumel excursions. We had the Tulum Ruins scheduled but had decided to do the Caverns Exploration & Beach Tour there instead since we could do ruins in the jungle at Costa Maya now. At this point, however, every excursion in Cozumel is apparently sold out! They said I could try on the ship and see if someone cancels. We still have Tulum Ruins, just in case, but we'd really like to do the Caverns Tour. Ah well...

But the good news is that I asked about Castaway Cay for our cruise, and he said we should be going there! Not long now, see you all soon-

Hey all future cruisers..........I just wanted to share what I know from the Magic. We took the 4.5 day last week and just got off the boat yesterday.

1. Door signs are nice.......easy for the kids to know which room is yours, even if you just bring a refrigerator magnet so they can easily id your room.....they all look the same and it can be confusing to a kids alone (or an adult after a few cocktails:crazy:

2. DO NOT do the beach excursion that Disney offers in Costa Maya. What a rip off..........dirty beach, broken paddle boats, people where lining up early to get back on the bus, at $30 pp, I do not think you could find more than 5 people out of 250 or so who liked it. I did hear the ruins where fabulous and that the reef snorkling excursion offered through DCL not so great (the cruisemates said they would not do it again). I believe you can cancel your excursions up to 2 days before you sail.

3. From what we understand you will be going to CC. Our cruise director led me to believe that they would be there this week. (why she was telling us I do not know........I for one did not want to hear this information).

have a ball,

Missy,

Was the Costa Maya snorkel excursion not good because of:

The hurricanes stirring up the water?
Where they took people to snorkel?
Did anyone have fun on the snorkel that was not booked through DCL?

Any info that you can offer would be great! Thanks!

Lori

PS - How were your excursions in Cozumel?

Hi guys,
I'm going to check with DCL tomorrow morning to see if we can book Costa Maya excursions now or if we have to wait until we board. I have heard we have to wait but I'm still going to check. I am leaning toward booking the reef snorkel through DCL. GC was my snorkel/swim with the stingray day so I need a snorkel fix on this trip. Even a bad snorkel is better than no snorkel at all. ;) Anyone willing to take a chance and join me?
Hope everyone had a nice weekend...we did last minute cruise shopping.:sunny:

We are planning in checking in onboard at the Dismeet. In addition, we will probably be wearing green mickey heads from Home Depot in our lanyards at the terminal...if you see us don't hesitate to say HI :wave2: .
I have yet to pack anything and I still have some shopping to do, drycleaning to pick up, cat to vet and an orthodontist appt tomorrow. Nothing like waiting to the last minute. I called DCL to ask about what time we would be arriving in COsta Maya, so I could book the horseback riding excursion. Anyway, the lady told me that I could book my excursion with her on the phone. I ended up not booking it with them because I am not sure if they(DCL) was offering the horseback riding. I don't know if that is helpful or not but it leaves me to believe that you may be able to book your excursions ahead of time.

Last cruise we went on we took a cab to Chankanaab Park to snorkel. Although, we did not do the dolphin swim, we could have just signed up at that moment. (The snorkeling there was less than impressive). We took the cheap route and just watched people swim with the dolphins.

We also went to GC and did stingray city on that trip. It was pretty incredible, but also very crowded with tourist boats. I guess you willl have to go again!

Hello Fellow Cruisers,

We are leaving Friday to sail with the rest of you on the 10/9 Magic, and I just now found this thread. I always seem to be a day late and a dollor short. I will be traveling with my DH, DS 16, DD 13 and DS 9. I am a little worried about my DS16. Anybody else sailing with teens. I afraid he might be a little board. Hope we get a chance to meet some of you! Two days left until departure. Yeah!!!!!!!! :bounce:

We don't leave until Friday after DD11 gets out of school so its going to be a long couple of days... I am already packed except for a couple of things and my husband has been harassing me for a week about everything he needs being in suitcases (which means 1 thing that he needed was in the suitcase)....

We only have the Catamaran sail, snokel and beach reserved for cozmel now that stingray city is a no go in GC. I am really torn about Costa Maya between just winging it or going to the ruins. DD11 has never been to Mayan ruins so it might be fun for her.

Oh well I guess its back to work....

See everyone on Sat at Dismeet...

Wow, a lot of posts yesterday (and I thought everyone had left already).

TiggerOnly1 - I am traveling with my 17 year old brother. I can't make an promises about how social he will be though (he is 17 afterall).

We leave Friday morning and meet the rest of our group at the Radisson and then the last two at the port on Saturday.

Two more days of work and then time to pack!

HebeJebe,

Thanks for the reply. My DS16 is pretty social once he gets the cool factor out of the way. I have been watching the posts and hadn't seen many older teens. I am glad there is at least one. We have something planned for all the ports. Key West - parasailing through Shore Trips. Doing the parasailing at Key West because I thought it was very expensive at CC and I wasn't sure we would be going to CC. Dolphin Swim at Cozumel. Planning ruins at Costa Maya. Read in the threads we might be able to call DCL and book ahead. Calling today. Just planning on snorkeling and banana boat rides at CC. We are leaving early Friday morning to spend a day at Downtown Disney. We didn't get to spend any time there on our last visit to DW. Kids want to go to Disney Quest. See you soon. :bounce:
