View Full Version : Something new for 2002
There's a signed contract for a new attraction at USF that will debut around the middle of next year. Something goes out, something comes in.
Well, you know that I hate doing this, but that's the end of the discussion on this subject from me for a while.
No, it's not anything to do with BTTF, and that's all there is to say for now. This one is not on any rumor board.

Earl, I about had a heart attack when I saw this post and realized that it was you who was the postee.
Will we be able to guess what attraction it will be by a "coming in 2002" sign next to the leaving attraction? If so how soon can we expect the sign? Can you tell us the amount or a round about figure of the cost for this new attraction? Sorry I know you said you can't say anymore I just couldn't help it. I personally think it will be Earthquake or Kongfrontation to go and something along the lines fo The Mummy will replace it. Please, just say it is not Jaws and I will be a happy camper. :D

Let see, If I count the no's correctly:
New Attraction in 2002.
It will replace a current attraction.
*It will not be BTTF
*It will not be Earthquake
*It will not be Kong
*It will not be Jaws
It will not be advertised.
Well I guess that narrows it down.
As for my thoughts (Guesses):
-Won't be Twister (Big Attendance like top 4)
-Won't be Hannah Barbara (One of few kiddy things)
-Wouldn't guess it to be T23D
-I guess it would be the Alfred H. show.
-If not maybe the makeup show? (very small theatre)
Hey here's a more stupid question. Several times walking around USF I noticed an area between T23D and the enterance that is a big white gate. on the wall on either side are the big fan things pointed to the parkside. Anyone know what that is or was??? Sorry its so vague.

Might those fans be for the external part of the T2 queue?
What about where the old hercules and xena show was. There was a rumor on screamscape that said Universal was trying to come up with a new attraction. Also I read the Hanna Barbara ride was about to have its contract expired.

So Earl, are you saying No? ;)
I thought about this after responding the first time and think I might be on the right track...now. I don't want to say anything yet, I wanna wait til more details arise.

They are probably going to get rid of Beetlejuice like they did in California. :( We like Beetlejuice, it is a good break and even our small ones liked it.

My guess is that something will finally occupy the old Herc and Xena building.

Ok, I couldn't hold out. I think Hanna-Barbara's Funtastic...(can't remember rest of name) will be leaving. I think I remember somewhere that their contract with Universal will be up soon and they could either be renewing their contract with a new ride featuring a new character like Scooby Doo or a new company could be filling in with a new ride. Either way I think it will be something light hearted for the youngins and still have entertainment value for the older crowd, maybe a Goonies ride? LOL (I wish!) Am I any closer Earl?
One last guess, it's not Apollo 13 themed is it?

I got it! Earl's office will be a ride! His chair will spin faster than Storm Force Acceleratron. Bungee cord jumps out his office window will be more thrilling than Dr. Doom's Fearfall. The near misses of his boss trying to give him work and Earl hiding will be more thrilling than the near-misses of Dueling Dragons. And who can forget the amazing gift shop -- stocked full of pencils and paper clips!
OK, maybe not. :D

If I had to guess, I'd say its Hanna-Barbera.
I was just discussing it with a friend the other day, and we both agreed that if it was replaced and they wanted a new ride in the same vein, they should make a deal with the Cartoon Network to secure their characters.

Wait a minute . . . could Earl be talking about Animal Planet Live. It is going in the old Animal Actors stage. BTW, what is this supposed to be? I assumed it was still going to be an Animal Actors show, just with a new stage and a new script.

I don't think its Animal Planet, because Earl said Screamscape didn't know anything about it, but I think Screamscape has already posted the Animal Planet thing.

Seeing that just about every possibility has been covered, I really can't say flat out "No", but that's as far as it goes. I'm starting work on this next week, so if you get by the ride in my office, you might find out.
(hehe)
Oh, I forgot, then there is the new Spiderman "scoop" show profile. It's a great ride, down to every last detail. There's just the one secret about how you can get to ride it.

"They are probably going to get rid of Beetlejuice like they did in California"
That was a sad day for many passholders. There were some passholders who came in the park only to do all the Beetlejuice shows all day. I wasn't working show control that day but at the final show alot of them burst into tears while others tried to get a souvenir from the stage. I know it's not the BTTF ride that they will change... here in hollywood they have been "threating" to change the film or knock down the building since I started over three years ago...Nothing happened so far..

Did Earl just say he is starting working on it tomorrow. So he is involved with building new attractions at the parks.
Sorry I mean't next week. Man I'm going crazy, I want to go to Universal. I guess I can wait till the end of 2002. I'm moving to Orlando.
Loric wins the prize, of the there is no prize, so you'll have to be happy knowing that you guessed it. The only thing is that it's not #13.

Seriously, though, I'm going on Saturday and would greatly enjoy the chance to try it out.

Everybody is assuming that this new attraction will take the space of an existing ride/attraction.
Screamscape.com mentions that a new attraction will be built in that "unused" space between/behind MIB and BTTF.
Earl, Any chance that you can at least debunk that part of the rumor?

They will definatly be digging a large hole (250 feet to be exact) in the floor of the old Herc and Zena building. In this hole they will install a massive 275 foot Space Shot tower. The building will be completely dark, and as you repeatedly shoot up and down you will be required to shoot funny looking alien creatures that shoot back at you. After three or for times through this process you will exit the tower and be led to another room (part of the HUGE Herc and Zena building) where you will be treated to a recreation of the old Ghostbusters show. After the Ghostbusters show you will board a sleigh and sled down a 200 foot hill with the Grinch, right out the exit door( don't ask how you got 200 feet in the air to begin with- call it Universal magic). What a great ride Universal has come up with. Definatly an excellent way to utilize the building. Note to onsite guests: This ride will have extensive wait times of approximatly 5-10 minutes during the peak season. Remember however, you are entitled to semi-unlimited FOTL access all day, every day (You will wait 15 minutes or less- a big time savings). One ride per guest only please. If you'd like more rides with no wait, please throw a big fit at both guest services and the USF-Info boards stating that you were mis-lead by false advertisement. When exiting through the gift shop, please be sure to check out the concept model of the new 300 foot giga-coaster to be installed between MiB and BTTF at the request of nearby neighborhoods.
Don't fear- Screamscape may confirm this story in the next week or so, making these plans set in stone.

No No No Donna,
It was going to catapult you into his office and then he would preform a much better show than the makeup show, telling you all kinds of secrets and showing you plans for the new attraction. He will even disclose the new profile #!
But alas after the show (which is better than the makeup show) he will then flash you with one of those MIB things and you won't remember a thing. You will believe you just saw the old Ghostbuster or Xena show.

Earl said in a previous post that the Boneyard is coming out. Is that the casuality?
kellymonaghan
12-16-2001, 04:39 PM
If this new attraction will appear in the "middle of next year", and if it was going to be where Boneyard is now, then it seems only logical we'd see signs of construction by now.
Also, Earl said that "something goes out, something comes in." Now if that means in the same location then whatever is there now will have to be dismantled before the new attraction could be built. That suggests to me that if a major attraction is being replaced we'd see signs of work by now. Since we don't see signs of work, then we can conclude that either the switch is something super simple (doing away with Blues Brothers and bringing back Rocky & Bullwinkle) or it will happen to an attraction that can be replaced quickly (Hitch, Beetlejuice, or Makeup).
Of course, if the attraction coming in won't be in the same location as the attraction going out, then all bets are off. For all we know, the new attraction could be being built even as we speak in the old Herc & Zena theater and when the time comes the "old" attraction will just be shuttered.
That's as far as my cool, logical deduction takes me. OTOH, I almost flunked logic in college.
Tony M
12-16-2001, 07:14 PM
"something goes out, something comes in."
Could something be going on in the vacant buildings of attractions that have been retired?
Is something happening in Herc & Xena's old building?
If so, maybe something comes in and then something goes out.
It makes sense that an attraction takes time to construct(or reconstruct on site) and maybe we assume that both will happen at the same location.
We Assume that the new attraction will take the place of Kong, but maybe the new 2002 attraction opens elsewhere and Kong just closes in 2002 to make room for a Future addition.
We also assume that the rumored attractions that might take the place of Kong(Scorpian King, Indoor Dark Coaster, etc.) are the 2002 attraction that Earl is talking about. Maybe Kong's replacement occurs in 2003 or even 2004.
It would also make sense that Universal would alternate attractions added between the two parks. Maybe IOA gets the 2003 attraction, Universal the 2004, and so on. The removal of Kong and then adding a new a rumored attraction like Scorpian King, Indoor Dark Coaster, etc. would take time to construct (or reconstruct on site).
