Just for curiosity's sake, can anyone tell me which DVC resort has the biggest rooms? This would include all types of rooms.....

Thanks!

OKW has the largest rooms in terms of square footage.

Also in terms of volume.

It is presently the closest resort to DD, PI, MP. Its right next door to the new SSR.

LOL ! You're not kidding......I experienced this first-hand this past August ! I felt it was a very stiff (but doable) hike to Epcot from my room location ::yes::

Yes, OKW has the largest rooms, the best buses and is far enough from the hustle and bustle to feel like a vacation. OKW also has easy access to your vehicle if you have one, because you can park right outside your unit. Three of the buildings have elelvators, otherwise the handicapped rooms are all first floor facilities. Oh yes, and NO LONG HALLWAYS!:jester:

Enjoy the "debate" you may have started here on our friendly little DVC board!:hyper:

Oops! As a newbie, I had no idea there was a "history" behind this topic!! As far as the loooong walk to Epcot from BWV, we just returned from the Dolphin and walked several times back and forth......it can't be much further from there, can it??

Don't apologize, Sammy.

The fun thing about this board is you get both facts and opinions.

The difficult thing is sometimes making the distinction (both from the poster's and the reader's perspective).

Fact: OKW has the biggest rooms.

Other Fact: The walk from Epcot to Swan / Dolphin is about the same as to BWV.

Yet another fact: Everyone has a favorite resort.:D

Its not that its further from the park, its the hallways.

Somehow the Disney Magic machine was able to put 1.2 miles of hallway in a building only a fraction of that distance.

When you begin the trek to your room, its not that bad, you walk to the end of the huge lobby and then enter the first hallway.....the end vanishes in the distance on the horizon.....you finally reach that first goal, begining to feel worse for the wear.....turn that corner and another endless hallway reaches to the horizon......many members feel there should be a rest stop somewhere along this expanse......reaching the end of this leg of your journey brings relief, but alas, its only temperory as you round that corner and see yet another endless corridor stretched out before you......

It exhausts me just reliving that trying experience again in my mind.

Here are a different set of numbers for BWV
Studio: 412 sq. ft.
1 BR: 814 sq. ft.
2 BR: 1226 sq. ft.
GV: 2491 sq. ft. and 2584 sq. ft.

I know when I've posted this information here before many people have questioned its validity. The information was provided to me on a printout by a DVC Rep. and has since been validated by a WDW employee via the Boardwalk Page on the WDW Cast Portal.

If these numbers are correct it makes the BWV GV the largest DVC room in terms of sq. ft. I have no idea why there is a discrepancy or which numbers are correct. I only offer it as food for thought.

These number MUST include the hallway space in front of the units, that MONSTER balcony and the bath room from next door.

Sorry, this is not correct information. Check your paperwork from when you purchased.

As I Said in my post "I have no idea which numbers are correct."
The infrormation I provided is from an offical Disney source where Doc stated his source was this site.

I have not taken out my tape measure to verify their validity, I only provided it for informational purposes. So please don't flame me for providing offical information you may disagree with.

Really...the key is all in where your room is ! Study the BWV map and make requests accordingly. I had the second from the farthest room you could get to the elevators....and the hallways twist around (like Rich said) and at some points you come to a fork in the road and have to go eenie, meenie, miney, mo and pick your path.......
But I'm sure there are rooms at BWV that are very convenient to the Epcot walkway......it just wasn't my room !

I didn't state any source for my information. Most of it is from the Multi-site POS (legal description of the DVC Resorts). I realize there are other documents around, but will stand by the numbers I presented until such time as I get other statistics in writing from DVC.

Richyams....I am ROTFL.....not an easy thing to do in a small office, I tell ya.

I can relate to your tale of never-ending hallways, because our room at the Dolphin was the lastroom in the last wing on the East side of the hotel. Had to water the camels before heading to the Grotto pool. BUT.....we had the absolute BEST view of Epcot from the 8th floor.....watched IllumiNations from the room several nights. Wouldn't have traded it for the world!

Doc, my apologies for misquoting you. I wrongfully took “Reported” to mean from this site. My bad.

FYI, my Multi-Site POS does not contain any room size information, but I know these documents are always changing their content, and am not questioning yours containing it.

The print-out I received from the rep includes the following at the bottom:
DVC Quality Assurance
Copyright © 1998 – 2002 DISNEY .

Please understand that I am not stating that these numbers are accurate, only that they are the ones I have from an apparent official DVC source. I would not be surprised that there are other DVC publications with still different numbers.

My sincere apologies,

Shamus

The wonderful views of Epcot, Fantasmic, Illuminations and the short walk to Epcot and the Studios is great. I would not trade this for a large room with a view of a golf course and a car or bus ride away from everything except Downtown Disney and PI, for the world either.

Not that I want to start any sort of debate or anything---I mean, to each his own. But OKW has MANY gorgeous views. I have, on a couple occasions, not even had a peak at the golf course (which is very nice btw), but rather a serene, beautiful woods and water view. We saw rabbits, ducks, egrets etc from our balcony. Loved it. My view from the BWV, otoh, was that of the valet parking lot. Now, I'm sure BWV has many much nicer views than this, but then on the other hand, in all fairness to OKW, that resort also has some gorgeous views. I think each DVC has both good and bad views in the eye of the beholder. 'Nuff said :D

I am very familiar with the views at Old Key West. We bought a membership at OKW before it was even completed. We have stayed in almost every building with different views. We do not find any of the views especially gorgeous or anything special but we also live in a home in FL that overlooks a golf course and has many rabbits, ducks, egrets, etc. Whenever we read that folks find the views at OKW gorgeous , DH and I chuckle and say we should rent out rooms in our house!
We sold our OKW membership to buy a BWV membership when the Boardwalk resort opened. As I said: for our family, I would not trade a view of Epcot, Illuminations, etc for anything in the world, especially for the views from the villas at OKW. Been there, done that, sold it and have never regretted it.

That's fine if that's the way you feel....but I feel this is pretty harsh criticisim of the grounds at OKW. They even offer a garden tour at OKW, which they obviously wouldn't do if the grounds were as shabby and void of nature as you imply ? Sorry you and your husband couldn't find anything positive about your many stays there, but that is what is nice about DVC. There is something for everyone. Buildings I found that had particularly lovely views were #43, #45, $46 & #55. I'm sure there are many others, but I don't have personal experience with them. In fact, there was a recent short TR on these boards, where the OP talked about lots of butterflies/birds flitting around their balcony. I don't think there's any denying that OKW has alot of nature in it's views, not just avgolf course ? Maybe because your husband and you already live in FL you can't appreciate this, because OKW is a "Key West, FL" theme and you might be numb to that ? This is not a criticism, but rather a reality that you & your dh live with lush vegetation and lots of nature year 'round ? Here in PA, we do not, so when we go to OKW (particularily in off-season when PA is dead), this resort seems like a tropical paradise to us. In PA, everything is dead & grey 6 months out of the year. Sorry you and your husband couldn't appreciate the beauty of OKW---but I believe, as do many others on this board, that it's there.
Also, like I said in my previous post, I'm sure BWV has many nice views (as do ALL the DVC resorts), but I was not graced with one in August. I saw a parking lot and the service area driveway primarily. Dump trucks and carts pulling in and out all day. There is no guarentee that anyone will get an Epcot/Illuminations view when they stay there, as only a small percentage of the rooms at BWV have this view. I even had my stay booked on preferred points ! I would not trade my larger rooms and serene views at OKW for that ever again. I won't diss BWV , as you did OKW, because I feel each DVC has something very nice to offer. Maybe someday I'll be lucky to get an Epcot view there ? I am glad you are happy with your BWV ownership---noone should have to be unhappy with any DVC purchase. It's meant for enjoyment, and you and your dh obviously derived no enjoyment from OKW.
Now....I knew this would stray away from the OT of "larger rooms". We often stay with 6-8 people so we really need that extra space, which OKW undisputingly has, so I won't comment any further from this point. The fact that OKW has larger rooms is not meant to take anything away from any other DVC resort....it's just a fact. They are all awesome resorts in their own right. Each offering something new and unique.

where does BWV have a view of Epcot???? Tell room number please!

BWI is in the way.

now BCV has wonderful views of Epcot. I love looking out and seeing Spaceship Earth.

I think OKW has some wonderful views - I like 18 and 55 - both water views.

Now I don't like the golf courses views - I don't like golf.

but OKW water views are pretty wonderful - I would happily compare them to the lagoon view at the Polyn or the Cont. this is my opinion - your may differ.

i feel very relaxed with a water view at OKW.

we had once the BW view at BWV - but it was of BC/YC - not Epcot - could see the fireworks - but I can also see the fireworks in a standard view. Of course I felt on display the whole time when we had the BW view - it wasn't very relaxing for me - my opinion. I live in a suburb of Birmingham - it is a condo - but it is in a very quiet area. I found the people going by and able to look up and see you - very upsetting. but the view was great!

One BIG factor that is missing is from the lagoon view rooms at Poly and Contemporary you have not only a beautiful view of the water but also of MK, Cinderella's Castle, Space Mtn, MK fireworks and the Electrical Water Parade. Big difference, IMO.

This has drifted far from a discussion of room sizes. If you have further comments about location or view or occupancy, please post them in a new thread.

Thanks.
