Has there ever been a Pittsburgh Meet????

I'm wondering too. It would be a great way to meet fellow disers :chat: and still get home to take care of my boys (and cats.. I can't forget the cats.)

I haven't been around too long, but I don't recall seeing any info about a meet since I've joined the DIS. I know of quite a few Pittsburghers on the DIS. Maybe someone can pick a Saturday and a mall with a Disney store and we can all get together!

I vote for Ross Park Mall or South Hills Village!

Pittsburgh meet??? Hmmm... not too terribly far away from here :teeth: Even if there has been one before, I think it's probably time to try for another ;)

There hasn't been a Pittsuburgh meet since I've been on the DIS. (3 years) We kept talking about having one, even got to the planning stages once, but it fell apart for lack of interest. It seems we have a lot more Pittsburghers now, so maybe we can get one together. I love the idea of Ross Park Mall!

Ross Park wouldn't be bad for me either. Maybe November 1st?

Pittsburgh??? Is that somewhere near Cleveland??? :teeth:

I'll come to your Pittsburgh meet if some of you promise to come to my Memorial Day picnic.

Dan Murphy
10-14-2003, 10:37 AM
Is that close to Chicago??

helenabear
10-14-2003, 10:39 AM
Is this mall easy to find???

I think the 1st might work for me... might drag DH along too. Any other days to throw out (just in case)?

The LK 4
10-14-2003, 10:39 AM
Everything is close to Pittsburgh if you buy a plane ticket! ;)

TC - your Memorial Day meet may be a possibility for us in 2004....

helenabear

John & Dan... my answer is the same for you both...

It's close enough ;)

The LK 4
10-14-2003, 10:46 AM
Elaine, the mall is very easy to find. Of course, you will be driving on the turnpike and getting off at my exit anyway, so we'll drive down together!

I guess the 8th could be an alternate date, but let's see how the interest is for the 1st at Ross Park Mall?

edited to add: another bonus reason to come on the 1st is that maybe the Disney Store will be having a huge Halloween sale that day!

helenabear
10-14-2003, 10:47 AM
LK, I like the way you think!!!! I need to get a rough idea of how long it will take me to get there... I am guessing three hours though. But couldn't miss this one!!!

Towncrier

Easy to find? In Pittsburgh?? We are talking about the Pittsburgh that's in Pennsylvania, aren't we?

I've gotten seriously lost in Pittsburgh on at least a couple of occasions. I guess that I'm just accustomed to all the straight roads in NE Ohio.

Do you have an address for the mall that I could plug into Microsoft Streets & Trips?

***** UPDATE *****

I answered my own question. I found a link to Ross Park Mall:

That's how I got to Indianapolis a couple of years ago. I bummed a ride with Marla. Maybe Dan can pick me up on the way from Chicago to Pittsburgh. :teeth:

We did have a Pgh meet a few years ago, it was mostly pin collectors from the collectors board. Because of having folks come in from Ohio and NY area we had it at Max and Erma's by Exit 3 of the Pa. turnpike that was about the easiest place for folks coming in from the west, the city area , and those coming from the north . easy access on and off the turnpike, and I-79 We even got to celebrate Epcotkilterfan's birthday with a great cake thanks to her mom!!!!!! think we ended up having around 20 there.

can't make it on the 1st , will be in WDW
but maybe another time.

I might be able to meet on the 1st. I'm not sure where Ross Park Mall is, but I guess I could find out.

Then again, I ALWAYS get lost in Pittsburgh! Once I get north of West Mifflin, forget it!

Columbus(OSU campus) to Youngstown will take you 2 1/2 hrs....from Youngstown to Ross Park Mall will be 1 hr 15 minutes so you are looking at 3 hrs 45 minutes at least.;)

Well I wouldn't head up as far north as Youngstown... I'll just take 70 straight to the turnpike... that should only be about 200 miles and depending on how fast my little car can fly ;) just under 3 hours is doable.

But if LK is buying air tickets..... ;)

Oh Yes! A Pittsburgh meet sounds good!

Ross Park Mall is good.

There is a Max and Ermas close to 79 and the turnpike (old exit 3) in Cranberry Twp. (the place where we are currently in a state of emergency due to bad storms.)

BTW, what exactly do you do at a meet???:grouphug:

The LK 4
10-14-2003, 08:07 PM
firstmickey, I'm thinking we can meet at the Disney Store and then move on to the food court for lunch and good conversation. Feel free to bring pictures of your WDW trips. A meet is just a great way to meet other DISers in your area and get to know them a little bit better.

A Pittsburgh Meet sounds good to me. I am new to the boards and would love to meet some of the people who write on here. November 1st or 8th is good for me. The Ross Park Mall is a great place to meet also.:)

Brernurse - you probably live real close to The LK 4.

Looks like we have quite a few people who can make it the 1st. Do we want to say around 12:00 or 1:00 for the meet?

KathyFP
10-14-2003, 09:05 PM
I can't do the 1st will be at WDW. If you have a meet on the 1st, I just ask that you schedule another one for in the future so that I can attend.

Oh no Kathy! I mean, great that you'll be in WDW, but I can't believe you started this thread about a meet and the date we are all discussing is the one day you won't be available. :( The good news is we are getting lots of interest, so I'm sure it won't be too hard to organize lots of Pittsburgh meets in the future.

KathyFP
10-14-2003, 09:19 PM
I agree! I believe that we will many more in the future. You all can share with me the details. I will check the board that night.

I actually live between Uniontown and Morgantown, WV -- when anyone asks I usually say I'm from Pittsburgh just because everyone knows where it is...lol! Morgantown would be much more accurate, but it's a different state and all...

I go to Century III when I can, Uniontown Mall stinks. How far is Ross Park Mall from Century III?

It's about 30-40 minutes. You keep heading on 51N towards Pittsburgh, go through the Liberty Tubes, and head out 279N towards Erie, then there is an exit for McKnight Rd. The mall is about 10 minutes up the road on the right. There might be an easier way if you go on Mapquest.

Someday I would love to attend a Pittsburgh Meet, but unfortunately DH and I will be in Lewisburg, PA for our DD's school's Parent's Weekend.

Thank you for thinking of this and for posting on "other" boards (since I would not know about it any other way. ;) ) Please alert me of any future dates!

Have fun! :)

Wow this is making me homesick. I moved from PA to FL during the summer between my 9th and 10th grade years. I was in Penn Trafford's marching band and I LOVED competitions. I wish I would have kept up with it in FL but I was so depressed about moving I pretty much shoved everything I enjoyed out of my life. Lesson learned though.

I hope everyone has a great time at the meet!!!!!

We're leaving for Pittsburgh in 15 minutes. See you there. We won't be able to stay very long as we are going to be leaving to pay our respects to Beverly Lynn, one of my DIS buddies, who passed away suddenly on Wednesday. I had hoped that BL would be attending the DISmeet this weekend and that I would be able to see her again.

Prayers for safe travel for all who are attending today's meet.

Have a good meet, guys, and reminisce some about a good Pittburgh DIS'er, Beverly Lynn. I have her little book here she gave me some time back, Sam McCool's New Pittsurghese. :) She'd enjoy the conversation. Drive carefully everyone.

I just got back from a week in Pittsburgh! Stayed downtown at the Westin Convention Center and the Omni William Penn! What a beautiful city! I love coming here and always look forward to going back... unfortunately it's about once every 8 to 10 years!

Hope the meet was great! The Sigma Delta Sorority Sisters are planning a July 2004 meet at the Swan Dolphin Resorts. So, if any of you are in the area next year, stop by!
