Just had to post congratulations to both teams for their performances on Saturday, especially England and Bex after all the distractions and provocations of the run-up and during the match itself!:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
Mike (and on behalf of best mate, Scot, a Scot(!) who send s greetings from non-dis-land!)

I thought DB (David Beckham!) behaved impeccable as the team captain, even with those plucked, sorry shaped eyebrows!;)
I cannot understand why this game wasn't played in a neutral Country so we could have our fans present. And if it is the clash of the teams that is too volatile why wasn't it a closed game with NO fans? It is intimidating enough the noise the home fans can make but to have a whole stadium filled with intimidation was unfair.I loved the way the players changed tradition and stood with their arms around each other. The playing wasn't any better than usual but their attitude and team spirit is what I found inspiring.
I thought Rooney and James played really well and would have brought Lampard on sooner,Sorry Sven I just get carried away;)

Karen the reason is your fans just can't behave themselves -- i mean look at us ( Northern ireland ) with all our troubles yet we can go anywhere in the world without any hassle.
And you can't just say its a few -- time after time English fans have let themselves down their country and their team down :(

JJ
I absolutely agree with you about the fans, some are a disgrace.
But on this occasion within the Turkish fans there is also a violent elementand their fans don't have an impeccable reputation either. The threat of an outbreak of trouble was mutual,so why were only one set of fans penalised??

Yes i have to agree with about the Turks. But if i'm right was it not the English FA who asked that no tickets be given to English fans???
And that came about from the fact that England were warned that if any trouble broke out they'd be thrown out of the Tournament.
jj.....

Yes JJ you are right - England stood a chance of being thrown out of the championship if there was any trouble at yesterday's game.
I think they also took into account the level of violence in Turkey a couple of years ago when two Leeds fans died and the atmosphere of the match played in Sunderland, and felt it was prudent not to take up their allocation.
I understand what you are saying Karen but I d I think the atmopshere was one they fully expected and it certainly didn't put them off.
... and at least this way England will now take part in Euro 2004.

England played really well.
I thought Beck's was outstanding, i would of lamped Alpay! if he taunted me in that way!
But we got through! thats the main thing!! :)
Well done to the team as well, they all played with spirit and it payed off.

Thanks Tracey for remembering the Welsh. It is remarkable to see them in the play-offs when only a few years ago they would have been happy with a draw in a game.

...I'm a quarter Welsh and I forgot them! Well done Wales!
Mike JONES!
I caught something on the news about a Turkish player taunting Becks, poking him in the face or something. Did nothing happen to the Turkish player for such behavior?

UEFA investigating the incident at present.. the video fo the fracas in the tunnel after the 'poke' seemed to show everyone squaring up but no real physical stuff. Ref (isn't he scary?!) took both players aside and sorted them before 2nd half.
