View Full Version : swf tags??

04-28-2001, 10:55 AM
I am still trying to get my flash movie to show up properly in my mom's signature.

On another board that I use, there is a special [swf] tag for flash movies. Both that board and this one use vB codes, and I was wondering if [swf] tags can be used here as well. I've tried to use the [swf] tag, but it just showed up as text on the screen.

can anyone help me?

04-28-2001, 12:24 PM
[swf] is not a default tag but it can be added if the admins agree to it.

ok thanks.

I can give you the code, but for technical reasons, I would like to see the .swf file first.

Let's see...........

Here's the code. Copy and paste it.

Oh...BTW it is VERY nice!

Dan will be thrilled. I'll get him to do it when he gets home from school. Thanks again! :bounce:

Hey JC

I know this code already and I had tried using it before but came across limitiations on the number of characters. These limitations forced me to remove some parameters which made the movie look not so great. The code I was inquiring about is if you had something similar to

This is the code used on the FlashKit ( http://www.flashkit.com/board/index.php ), which also uses the vB coding.

Thanks for your help.

The vB tag that you are reffering to is out of my control.

Let me work on cutting down the code in the previous example to get it to fit.

(I keep getting locked out like others so it may take a little while.)

05-02-2001, 03:01 PM
Give this a shot:

&ltOBJECT>&ltEMBED src="http://inko.netfirms.com/mom/f2.swf" loop=false menu=false quality=best bgcolor=#666699 WIDTH=250 HEIGHT=75 TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash">&lt/EMBED>&lt/OBJECT>

The more I looked at the code the more I saw that was not neccessary.

Let me know if it fits.

05-02-2001, 03:13 PM
Woohoo! Finally! Thanks a lot.

p.s. i now am king signature designer on DIS boards =)

05-02-2001, 03:19 PM
See.....now you are going to make me release my new sig. before I wanted to. :)

Do you wear socks?..........because I'm going to knock them off!

05-02-2001, 06:07 PM
LOL, JC. :D I'll have to tell Dan he may be knocked of his "throne"! Could be possibly back to the drawing board ;)

05-02-2001, 06:44 PM

That was a simple thing I created for her, you ain't seen nothin' yet.... hehehehehe ;)

I don't wear socks right now..its too hot. I just go around in sandals. BTW what type of socks do YOU wear? ;) hehehe

I'm always up for a challenge :smooth: :jester: (hey i just noticed the smooth smily looks like the shady character on my site!)

http://www.inkodesign.com <---- I'm currently making this. This is my freelance webdesign thing that I'm doing with a friend from school. It's got a nice preloader that you should find interesting (move your mouse around the circles). :)

I should let you know before you get too far....

If you plan on having content that is high in byte size, you should (must) provide a halted pre-load scene that will fit within the guidelines of the board clipart rules. The resultant load can be whatever you want it to be but the autoloading portion MUST stay within the guidelines!

I'll explain furthur:

Give the first scene a basic intro with a halted load of the second or subsequent scenes. Once a user CHOOSES to load subsequent scenes, they should be able to click (or whatever) something to allow them to advance (and at that time load) the .swf to the impressive high byte count part.

If you need more explination, help or whatever just ask. I know how long these take, mine has been in development for almost a month now. I would hate to have you spend hours on an impressive sig. just to have one of us remove it because it doesn't follow the guidelines. :(

Good luck and happy Flashing!

(The program type not the trenchcoat kind :) )

05-03-2001, 11:43 AM
I'll let Dan know, if he chooses to make me another sig. anytime, but I'm perfectly happy with this one. He's so busy working on all his other Flash "experiments".

When is your new sig. going to be ready? Sounds like it's going to be "really something"! :)

05-03-2001, 11:52 AM
I still have to finish the scene transitions and the audio events. It just blinks back and fourth between scenes right now. Not too long though.

05-03-2001, 01:57 PM
Hey JC, its Dan... I went and got my own nick cuz i dont like using my moms.

I'm just curious as to why you would need transitions between scenes if you are only building a signature...it sounds as if you are trying to build an entire site. A signature wouldn't need multiple scenes even with a preloader.

What you said earlier about scenes is impossible...you can't make it not load scenes whenever you want because flash isn't built that way. I know a LOT about preloaders and I know that the only way that what you say can be done can only be done with loading multiple movies onto different layers. This may have been what you meant, but I thought I would point this out anyways.

Also, just so you know, the signature I created for my mom is only 36k in size so it doesn't require the preloader... it would have been smaller if the visits text box wasn't put in.

05-03-2001, 02:16 PM
Scene was the wrong term.

You need to link the first movie to the second in a new layer on the same stage, which would allow you to only load a larger layer upon request.

Sorry about that.

Your mom's current one is fine (and quite nice at that). I was only letting you know for future stuff.

As far as not needing multiple layers for a sig.....you might be surprised at how much junk I can fit into that little box! Can you say "Mucho motion", "Button bonanza" and "Event elixer"?! (Sorry, I made that last one up.)

Mista Mo? How did you go from Dan to that?

05-03-2001, 02:22 PM
I got it from the Simpsons...the episode where Homer, Moe, Barney and Apu go and join the navy...when Homer becomes the captain he calls Moe Mister Moe and I thought it was cool so I used it.

05-03-2001, 03:01 PM
BTW like my new sig? Took me 5 mins to do and its only 5k in size ;)

05-03-2001, 03:09 PM
The problem is that since it has multiple instances it is calling for the focus WAY, WAY too often. That is slowing down the ambient page activity. Post it on a seperate thread and let me see if it does it with only one instance too.

05-03-2001, 03:44 PM
I had absolutely no idea what you guys were talking about until I came to this part:

That is slowing down the ambient page activity

I had a heck of a time trying to read this thread. I love the clipart though. I'm definitely learning flash this summer. :D

05-03-2001, 03:56 PM

I've had a little of the slow down problem too on Flash pages.

I'm with you Lisa. I've already started into Flash. Can't wait to get some real time to work with it.

05-03-2001, 10:57 PM

Dan's turned in for the night, but he said that he sees what you mean and is going to make some changes to his signature in order to speed up the page activity. I guess he has too many little movies in it and it's slowing things down? Is that what you were referring to? Lisa, this is all as clear as mud, to me, lol! :)

I like them all. Lisa, when you get it, teach me too. :D

05-04-2001, 10:48 AM
I need a little "That's over my head" smilie. :D

No problem, Dan.

05-04-2001, 02:11 PM
Ok, I've created a completely new sig with very few moving parts to it so the pages should scroll smoothly now (Its less than 2k in size!!!). I may add features like a link menu and an email form, providing they don't slow anything down.

05-04-2001, 02:26 PM
It could have just been the math Mo. I went to Flashkit and saw the code for a simmilar file and the movement by itself may not have been the problem. I think (guess) that it was the mouse locator tied together with the math that moves the symbols that was slowing things down.

It didn't help that there were multiple instances of it running on the same page either.

You keep Flashing and I'll keep watching.

When are you going to finish the site?

05-04-2001, 02:44 PM

05-04-2001, 02:45 PM
I got the code from Praystation.com so I don't think there could have been any problems with it. I haven't encountered any problems with slowness before so I think it had to be from the number of instances x number of signatures.

As far as the site goes, I don't know if it will ever be finished because I quite often change designs :)
