Jen & Peter,
how sad - we're feeling with you. :(

Another sad story: Perhaps you already saw it on the news, it should make the primetime news in the USA and Canada as well.
Terrorism showed its evil face over here: This morning 10 bombs exploded in three commuter trains in Spain's capital, Madrid. So far nearly 200 dead, 1000 wounded. The main suspects are the Bask separatíst terror-group ETA, but for now Al Quaida is a possibility as well. The Spanish elections are held this Sunday, so the bombings are obviously aimed at disturbing them.
Viking
03-11-2004, 04:26 PM
Update:
190 dead, 1472 wounded. Letter from Al Quaida received, but authenticity not yet confirmed. Van found in the outskirts of Madrid, in the van: Detonators/fuses and quotes taken from the Koran.
We -that means everybody in Europe- can't believe it :(
Gotta sleep now - Hope we can

Eric -- Saw this briefly on CNN before I left for work this morning. Absolutely unbelievable. I fail to see how terrorists really think that people will sympathize with them after seeing acts like that. My prayers are with the families.

Hi guys, Kim here..
Renee', we have decided to stay at the Ron Jon Resort, since we are all getting together at Grills we will still see everyone. I just have no Idea if we will arrive late Thursday night or Friday, I will talk with them today and make arrangements.
On the down side :(:(:( It is not looking very good for us to get to the meet in DC in April. The woner of my laboratory has still not made up his mind on what he wants to do, continue, sell out or quit. If we are able to come it will be an almost last minute decision.
The cruise is much more important for us, and I do not think we will have any problems in October, especially since I paid the cruise off and even put some $$ on account for spending.
Peter & Jenn, I hope you guys are doing OK :(:(:( it really stinks, but in our hearts we know when it is time...

Great to hear that you'll be staying at Ron Jon too! Just so you know, they have a shuttle that goes to the port now. It costs $5 each person one way, but at least they now have one. Also, don't forget to use code 102 to get the 25% discount on your room.

Jenn, Peter: so sorry to hear the news about Shelby
Jamie, Alan and friends: welcome to the group!
So sad about what happened in Madrid....what a cruel and senseless waste - and exactly 2 1/2 years to the date following 9/11. As if organized war isn't bad enough, I simply cannot comprehend how people can be so insensitive regarding innocent people who are just going about their daily lives trying to earn a living or get an education. I just don't understand what is in their hearts to make them so evil.

Kim and Bette...Back to work...surgery went ok..they took her back to get her changed and asked her if she wanted me back there for when they start the IV and she said no, she would be fine. Next thing I know, they come out to get me and they tell me that she fainted and the IV pulled out and when I went in, she is on oxygen and this was before the surgery...I knew that Sam should have taken her!! So the procedure took a little longer because of all of the pre surgery hoopla!!!
We are also thinking of staying at the Ron Jon the night before but we don't know if we will fly down on Thursday night or Friday morning and we would like to go to Universal for the day so we will see.

Ithink I mailed you that, but perhaps you forgot - No wonder with all the trouble you went through recently. Hi Mary Jo, Give her a hug for us...
.Hotel rate I believe is the same as Renee'.
For flights, Manchester to Orlando the best right now is $ 196.50 r/t. Southwest will not have the dates open for a couple more months, the best fare with them would be $ 158.00 r/t if you get the cheapest seats.
We can fly down Thursday PM around 5 pm and get to orlando just after 10pm, the plane stops in Pennsylvania, Mary Jo you guys need to join the flight with us Thursday night.
So by midnight we are at the hotel going to sleep... I will talk with Peter & Jenn and peter suggested we might travel down together which would be GREAT ! lots of fun on that flight.
Gotta go, I have lab reports to evaluate,

Arlene...Sarah had some laser surgery on her foot today...nothing major but I worried just the same whenever anesthesia is administered. Half of the staff at this place used to work at the hospital that I work at so I knew several people!! She just happy to get out of gym for 6 weeks!!
Kim...the closest that Southwest flies to us used to be Hartford, CT or Baltimore, MD but I know that they fly into Philadelphia--let me know if you hear of any good rates..however, Philly is a 2 hour drive for us and to do that after work is probably not a good idea!! Southeast Airlines flies out of Allentown, PA but they fly into Sanford, FL not Orlando. We have a new no frills airline out of our area called Vacation Express which advertises flights for $59.00 one way. I just called to check and the cheapest that I can go with them would be $218.00 a ticket--might just fly US Airways since I have a BOGO certificate.

We'll be staying at the Radisson as we won't arrive til later on Friday and it's sounds like you'd want the day to hang around Ron Jon's although maybe next time.
The flights sound great -- here I just checked Air Canada and to fly to Orlando is like $800 Cdn each. Hence why we drive. Even if there's a deal the taxes make the price double. At one point looked at flying but we can drive a fair piece for the $1600 Cdn it would cost. I've looked at flying out of Buffalo which would be much cheaper cause we could fly Southwest but it's a 2 hour drive and we'd probably have to spend the night in Buffalo since most are early morning flights.
Work has suddenly gotten really busy. Partly because a major client is going on vacation next week so everything has to be done beforehand. Am actually taking work home this weekend which is rare for me. Am getting to do more complicated files which is good for me but somewhat nervewracking too. :D
Watched Survivor last night and was surprised that Colby got voted off -- wasn't that thrilled though that they only had one challenge and then spent most of the rest of the show on the boat.
Was sorry to see Heidi go on the Apprentice but I guess she was the right choice of the three although Kwame didn't really do that much either.
Tonight is JAG. Love David James Elliot esp in a uniform.
Take care
Welcome to everyone new -- sorry haven't welcomed you sooner.

Mary,
you got me confused ;) I've read that post, but saw that they were on a different cruise, so I kept on looking for another one :hyper:
Over here the temps are getting up -9°C/48°F today- but so far it only means that the precipitation is now liquid instead of fluffy :jester: For Wednesday they predict temps of up to 20°C/68°F :smooth: and blue skies :sunny: If It doesn't rain tomorrow, I'll change back to regular tyres. I've driven long enough with a speed limit of 120mph :teeth:
Update on the Madrid bombings:
200 casualties now, nearly 1500 wounded. More and more hints support an islamistic background. Today Germany's largest tabloid newspaper (Comparable to 'The Sun' in UK) had the following headline: Madrid bombings took place exactly 911 days after 9-11!! Hint or coincidence?
Today we had a bombthreat on one of Berlin's airports, shutting it down completely for more than an hour.
Political analysts see the UK as a prime target for the next act of terrorism, but this won't change our travel-plans: We traveled to the USA on 9/15/2001 and we will fly again on 9/11/2004, because we don't let terrorists change our life. If we let them do that, they would have won

Congratulations Colleen.
Kathy received a letter in the mail today from the hospital saying that she qualifies for early retirement. The city is trying to cut it's payroll by offering $500 for each year of service. Downside is taxes and by retiring 5 years early a 20% cut in her retirement check until 2008. She is going to keep working.
The weather here has been great and I have been grilling out on our new grill. We had beer can chicken the other night. It was delicious. You take a whole chicken, stick a beer that is half empty up his tail, and then grill on indirect heat at a medium heat until it is done. The beer keeps moist steam going in the chicken and it is tender and juicy to the taste. The heat gets rid of all the alcohol.
Looking forward to seeing those that can make it to DC.
Take care and have a great weekend. Mike

Weather here is cold. Not above 0C yet and this afternoon we are supposed to get snow/rain combination. Friday it was like driving through a blizzard to get to work although it's all melted now. We aren't out grilling yet (besides the fact that we need to fill the propane tank) cause we'd still be wearing mittens. Not quite that bad but I'm ready for spring that's for sure.
Up early today as my DS wanted to be at the amouries before 7am to work out before his course starts. He has to be at the amouries all this week (March Break) at 7:30am which means leaving the house around 7am. Ugh. And Jim keeps wondering why I keep falling asleep at 9pm. :p

I appreciate the warning, Mike. If I ever come to Tennessee and someone offers me half a can of beer, I'll run like hell :jester:
The weather here's great too: 16°C/61°F, blue skies, some scattered clouds and a light breeze. This morning I drove Anja to the hospital at 6am. When I returned I had some breakfast, watched a Vin Diesel movie and then took a nap. After that I went in the cellar, dragged up those big, fat wheels and exchanged them against my snow tyres. Just 15 minutes ago I picked Anja up at the hospital - with the top down of course

Busy, swamped today at work. Won't be leaving early that's for sure.
Actually sunny here today but not that warm. It was really windy when I went out at lunchtime. Most of the snow is gone though which is a good start -- except the huge black pile in the parking lot of the shopping centre across from the office. It will stay and look ugly for some time to come.

Eric you will love visiting south carolina just watch out for the state bird there. (Mosquitoes) Some of them are big enough to haul you off before they eat you.

Light dusting of snow here and cold. :(
Hopefully this is it though for the year.
Was at the dentist yesterday morning for cleanings. DS also had a small filling put it and it appears that I've chipped a back tooth which the dentist will fix tomorrow morning. One funny thing though is that the dentist has a new assistant and she thought DS and I were brother and sister. :p I've had the same dentist and hygentist (spelling?) since I was 12 so they both thought this was funny. I'll take the compliment although have to admit that DS didn't see it as funny. To him I'm ancient. :p
Had trouble getting into the boards yesterday. Did anyone else?

Yep,
there seemed to be heavy construction work going on on the servers: Sometimes you couldn't get on the boards at all, sometimes only by using detours and additionally they were horribly slow.
We got our check-up and cleaning scheduled for next Tuesday.
In 5 minutes I'll drive over to the gym - With the top down :Pinkbounc :sunny: Today it's a 3-mile-run, then pumping iron for 45 minutes, and after that we'll play Badminton with 9 of my co-workers.

Oh to be a pekinese dog at the moment. :hyper:
Was up early as DS was up at 5:15am. Although he tries he's not all that quiet. He left at about 6am. Actually called his Dad to come and drive him which is amazing since his Dad lives at the other end of the city. He slammed the door though when he left which woke up the dog who made sure that I was up.
Lily (the dog) was thrilled that it snowed last night and had great fun rolling around in it. I wasn't as thrilled to see it.
Still busy at work today. Survivor tonight though.

That was the reason, why I was surprised to hear about a redneck removing his shoes - I've never seen one wearing any.

Why not trade your Beetle for a Beetle Convertible? I really like that one although it has a ragtop.
I fell in love with the new Mercedes SLK, but I don't think that I'll get it past Anja ;) But as our little convertible is still under two years, there's enough time left to convince her :teeth: And anyway we'll probably buy a 4-seater convertible next time. Ours is listed as a 2 + 2, but I guess it means two adults and two leg-amputated penguins - I wouldn't want my worst enemy sit on our rear'seat', he'll probably spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Yes, Survivor is on from 8 t 9, and Idol is on from 8:30 to 9:30, so I will at least be able to see who got voted off on Idol, even if I miss the first half. They really had some great performances last night -- all female. It would be hard to choose who to vote for. Don't have to worry about that since I can't stay up dialing all night.

Yes, Ethan got voted off Survivor which could be expected, I guess, but why do they keep that awful Jerry around? If she ends up winning, I will never watch Survivor again. Of course, that's what I said after Jenna won. And I still can't believe she won.
On Idol, Jennifer Hudson was second lowest in votes. Almost was the first one to go of the final 12. Can't believe it -- she has a really beautiful voice. Maybe it was the song as Paula Abdul suggested. I know many DISer's are hoping Jennifer will win -- she was a CM on DCL.
As for squirrels -- we have tons of them in NC, too. In fact, it seems as tho we have twice as many this year as last year. Several years ago, we had squirrels in the attic (got in thru an air vent) and it cost us $600 to have critter control come out and trap them and remove them. We were definitely not allowed to kill them -- against the law here, but I guess not in SC.
Mary, thanks for the update on the lady with the heart problems.

Haven't had time to post lately as it has been high school hockey playoff time with championship week all last week for the different divisions. So spent alot of time at ice rinks.
Thought spring was here, but had 2" snow on Tuesday and more for Friday 3"-6" called for. :(
Did get to watch AI, Survivor and the rerun of Apprentice (missed last weeks show) last night. I was channel roaming between the 3. Saw that Ethan got kicked off ( I too was hoping that it was going to be Jerri this is the second week she had a chance to go), I did know that Heide was booted but still was able to see her go. The main reason I watched AI was to see my man Clay sing. He was great, but couldn't get over that the judges didn't even talk to him. As for Jennifer Hudson, I think she has a really nice voice but has an attitude that I don't care for. I agree there are some really great female voices in this group, but they all are doing the Celine or Whitney type songs. Next week is country will be interesting to see how they perform.
Back to work.

On AI will they be having guest judges? Is it too soon? I was glad to see that Heidi got fired but even gladder to see Omoroso leave. I was sorry to see Ethan get voted off. I know that Lex wanted to be the alpha male but all hes doing is getting rid of the strong one. They need them now. After the merge then look to get rid of the strong ones..Just happy to see Ruper still there. Hopefully next week Rob M will be gone and then Amber. I hope the coming attractions arent deceiving us to think that Rob and Amber dont be put on differant tribes.

Wish they had voted off Jerri -- really can't stand her at all. I hated it when she was gloating about Colby getting voted off. Don't like the way Boston Rob is either thinking that he's invincible. It would be really funny if he was the next to go. Hopefully he and Amber do get split up next week. I don't think that the merge is going to happen for a while yet.
There were snow flurries on the drive to work but it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow and then warmer again on Saturday but get cold again on Sunday.
Don't think that we are going to make it to Washington. Suddenly I'm really busy at work and don't think that I'll be able to take the time off. It's a good thing to be busy though.

Jeanne,
Anja loves the legislation in NC
Where we live we many of them too, but nobody would think about shooting them.
We Germans aren't very fond of firearms anyway, the first -and only- time I fired one was last year in Denver. Some of my co-workers took us into the Rockies where we did some shooting with pistols, a rifle and a shotgun - at inert targets of course!! I must admit it was fun, but have to say: Been there, done that, OK.
We talked about it during lunchbreak and after I made a remark about me never having fired a gun, they insisted on my German co-worker and me accompanying them for some fun at their favourite range.
What shocked me most: We insisted on paying for the ammo. So they just gave us a shopping list and sent us to a sports store. It was like grocery shopping :scared1: We just couldn't believe it - Especially as were just a couple of miles away from Littleton. For about $25 we bought about 200 shots in different gauges. Without being asked for an ID, a license or something similar  But as we say over here: If you're in Rome, just do it like the Romans do ;)

Eric,
Pennsylvania also has alot of squirrels--unfortunately, they're not all in trees!!!
I really hope that they smarten up on Survivor--can't stand Boston Rob who thinks he is just the greatest (making fun of Rupert--how dare he!) and I think that Mogo Mogo is making a mistake (Kathy and Shi Ann) in aligning with Lex--Lex is out for Lex and no one else. Ethan was on the Morning Show this morning and he looked so cute. The commentator asked him if the rumor is true that he and Jenna (the other million $ winner) were an item and he said with a smile that they are good friends and two million dollars is better than one!! He seems much to nice for him!
Snow tomorrow--supposed to get between 3 to 5 inches--spring can't come soon enough!!

I'm so bummed out about Ethan, but I guess i knew it was coming. If I had known he was going to be on the Morning Show, I probably would not have gone to cycling class! I can't believe he's got a thing for Jenna.......he definitely deserves better. Any girl who would strip completely naked for peanut butter is clearly not the sort of person I thought he'd be interested in. Oh well, there's no accounting for people's taste......... I don't know who I'd like to see win now. Colby would have been my second choice, but he's gone also. Rupert is still a favorite, but he seems to be alot less interesting this season. I guess he just doesn't dominate like he did last time among the all-stars.
Sorry all you guys up north are getting such bad weather again. My daughter keeps me abreast of all the snow in PA. We've had rain here in Raleigh for 2 days straight now.....not complaining, it's good for the grass!
My son just got 2 "fat" envelopes today......Washington U. in St Louis and USC in Los Angeles. He already got into UNC-Chapel Hill and Chapman University (right near Disneyland!). Chapman gave him a very nice scholarship, but we're still waiting to hear from 4 more before he makes his final decision. They should all be arriving any day now.

Eric, you can buy ammo almost anywhere! Even Wal-Mart sells it. If you had wanted to buy a fire arm, you would have to fill out some paperwork and show ID. When we lived in FL there was a big sign for a gun shop that read "Machine Gun Rentals" !!! Hi Rosemary and Richard -- glad you checked in.
When are you going to WDW?
Busy week here at work and next week is looking busy too. Not a bad thing really just tiring. They are working on the heating/air conditioning system and, well, the heating works quite well. We've been basically in a sauna for the week.
It's nice and sunny here today and actually warm -- this is a relative warm though -- it's 4C. It's supposed to get up to 8C tomorrow but then go back down on Sunday. It's supposed to rain tomorrow as well as be warmer. :(
Boy am I ready for spring weather though and a day off.
It's Friday though. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Can anyone tell me what happened last night on the Apprentice? I fell asleep as Omarosa was entering the hospital -- what a whiner. I wanted to hear what Donald said about her but couldn't keep my eyes open.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi Rosemary--- We changed our May reservations over to POFQ when the AP rates came out. So please remember to let me know how it is since the renovations. I think this week is when it reopens. I haven't posted on the survivor board since we last talked to each other, but do continue to follow that thread. I've been on the AI and Clay Aiken threads alot. Enjoy your trip to WDW. To bad you miss the Flower and Garden show.
Wonder why no official Apprentice thread on the Community Board? Fionna you got most of what Donald said about Omarosa. Bottom line she didn't have anything wrong with her after both a doctor and the hospital examined her. So glad she is gone. I was so set for a show that another person would get kicked off, and then we had just a recap. Will be interesting next week as it seems Amy and Neal are getting close? And does one of them go because of that. I think it could be Troy and Neal as the final 2, unless Neal messes up because of his relationship with Amy. Apprentice has become my favorite Reality TV show. Survivor just seems to be dragging, and AI is just not the same this year. I have no favorite as this point. I guess since Clay left I have no interest. I really enjoyed his performance on AI this week. I never made it to any concerts in my area when him and Kelley were near me, but see that he is going to be in Allentown, PA for the Musikfest in August. So may try to go to that one. My one friend from work will go with me. Plus being summer time, don't have to worry about the snow. I really do need to get a life.
Mike--- You will always be wise even without those wisdom teeth.
Peter--- I never heard of the majestic list before. I hope you and Jen are doing better since the lost of Shelby. I also had a blond cocker "Prince", he was my first dog when Norm and I got married.
jeanneg--- Congratulations to your son for getting those college acceptance letters and to your daughter for her swimming.
We have squirrels everywhere, since we live by the woods. They love eating the bird food so they hang out here all winter. It gives my 2 beagles something to bark out, not that they need a reason to bark since they do it all the time.
Well, I had better get off these boards. I have to clean my house. Norm left to go to work and I told him I was planning on cleaning while he was gone. So I better get that vacuum moving.
Have a great weekend everyone.

OK, fellow diners, what are we going to call our group? We need to come with something so we can give it to Eric before the next list.
On Friday we just went to contract on a new house. Now that the kids will all be gone, we really needed to downsize. The new home will be considerably smaller, but fulfills my husband's dream of one day living on a golf course. They'll still be plenty of room for the kids when they return, but they'll have to share bedrooms and bathrooms which will not be a problem. Personally, I'd be happy just to close up the unused rooms and stay put, but hubby really wants this badly. The thought of putting our home on the market and cleaning out all our junk is making me frantic. The good thing is that by the time the cruise comes around, it should all be behind us. As of now, we're scheduled to close towards the end of July. If all goes well, we'll truly be in a mood to celebrate in October! In any event, I'm going to need lots of pixie-dust to get through these next several months.......

Welcome Izza! Thanks for joining in. Birthdays on the ship are wonderful. On our first ever cruise, our DD turned 12 on formal night. Hoping it gets a little warmer today so I can tackle that when I get home. Trying to at least make it look a little Eastery even if there is *&^%$ now on the ground!
Got a whole pineapple at the store and as I was picking it out heard a girl say ... "It's still not like it was on the cruise" ... needless to say, I almost asked her if she was on a Disney ship.
 I miss Scoops and Pluto's.
Peter and Jenn ... I really feel for you guys. I was so down when Cindy passed on but after about 6 weeks Art drug me to the local Pet Day at our Humane Society and voila, I found AshLee. There she was looking very much like Cindy and in need of a home. You'll know when you are ready to give a wonderful happy life to one of God's creatures.
To all of the newbies ... welcome ... the more the merrier!
Eric ... found some rainbow balls with fins for some fun at Serenity Bay.

Welcome to the newcomers!! Please post and join in.
Love the tropical Mickey. Tried to get into it over the weekend but something was wrong with the work server -- the emails go to my work addy which I should be able to access from outside of work but alas it wasn't working over the weekend due to upgrades or something.
Noticed on the list that Sarah isn't coming? Mary Jo is she just too embarrassed by you finally???? But you did get free flights by being bumped -- that was so funny sitting at the Radisson listening to your story Friday night the last time.
Really looking forward to the cruise.
It's nice and sunny here but could you send some warmth? It's like -10C here today and boy was it cold and windy here yesterday. Couldn't believe it.
DS and I went to see Hidalgo yesterday afternoon and I enjoyed it.
Monday morning -- weekend do fly by don't they?

Izza,
please send your info to antiguaorbust@yahoo.comantiguaorbust@yahoo.com to be put onto the List and to receive regular updates.
To Everyone:
The next update will be done during the Easter Holidays. I just learned that upon my return from London I'll have to take some work home, which has to be done on Sunday 04/04/04 :(
We'll leave our car in the company garage while we're in the UK, so I have to get there from the airport anyway.
Cathy,
looking forward to bombing you out of your tube on CC :teeth: Perhaps I can purchase some torpedoes at the Imperial War Museum in London :jester:
What information do you need for the list??

Izza -- So happy you are officially booked on our cruise. What category did you get?
Ave' and Renee' -- I will be interested to see what you think of Jester. I, too, am a Patterson fan. This book is completely different than any of his others. I tried to plow through it but finally gave up. Very weird to me!

I bought 3rd degree a week ago, but just haven't had time to read. I have been working on my scrapbook in my spare time. Nearly have 2002 trips completed. Plus have both son's books current.
Very busy at work so need to get to it.
Nancy
jeanniec,
Actually that's a good question. I had them quote cat 6, decided it was too much and asked them to quote cat 9. In the meantime, I changed my mind again, sent them another email and booked the cat 6. When they came back to ask if I was sure, I mixed up my numbers and said that yes, I wanted cat 9. So, they changed my quote. And then I caught my error and (completely embarrassed) asked them to change it back to cat 6.
I was so exhausted yesterday, and the boys were running around like little boys do. :) I'm just so glad it all worked out. They processed my deposit, so we're officially booked. And they made sure DCL knows about the boys' 3rd and 5th birthdays onboard.
Now, someone please give me tips for waiting patiently for 6 months. :)

Waiting patiently for 6 months? Now that's a joke. If anyone has figured that out please let me know too. I was ready to get back onboard the minute we left last October.
It's still cold here although by Friday it's supposed to warm up. The snow is gone so everything just looks blah. Sunny, cold but grass is brown and yucky looking and the trees are still bare.
Busy day at work today. Have to struggle with a computer program -- when it works it's great, when it doesn't? well let's just say that I talk to the computer a lot. Did 10 documents yesterday and it took an hour -- today I should do 50 documents so let's see how long that will take.
Take care everyone.

It sounds like you're in category 6. We might even be neighbors.
The info that Eric needs for the list is: e-mail address; names (first) & ages & occupations; Kids names & ages, Dinner seating (main or late), stateroom # if you have it, home (location), hotel you are staying at the nite before the cruise (if you are) and special occasions which we know are the birthdays. I think that's about it.
Being addicted to the DIS cruise board is the best thing I can do to keep me content until we sail. If I can keep reading about DCL, it's almost like we are there. Not quite, of course

Hi Guys,
Kim here...
Dinner Updates...
Since we have sadly lost Amy, Chris & Emily and the new baby for our cruise in October we do have room at our table for a party of two, ( could fit 3 if a smaller child) . If you would like to join our table you would be at early seating with... cdnmickeylover ( fiona & Jim) , Bettemom ( bette & Kim), Piglet33 ( Renee', Lenny & Haley) and JeanneC ( jeanne & Sam).
With the exception of JeanneC we all ate together last year on the cruise. We are a fun group for dinner, we really like musical chairs, our poor waitstaff... they were so good to us.
So if you want to join us then PM me with your names and Disney Reservation # so my TA can link you into our group for dinner.
Now on to fun stuff...
For anyone who is bored on May 15th come on to New Hampshire, that is the day of our siding party, of course we do not pay but feed you really great :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:.... I can't wait to start after all the delays we have had. Of course we hope the snow id gone by then...
So long, back to work,
P.S. Mary Jo did you get the info I e-mailed this AM ??
Ave, Appointment on 4/12 I will let you know how it goes. Ask away, I am glad to return some info to you.

We just had snow flurries here this afternoon. How depressing. I don't think that it will stay long but just looking at it out the window does not conjure up springtime or warmth.
As Kim posted come join us for dinner -- we are a great bunch who had a wonderful time. One of our (Jim and I) fondest memories of the cruises are getting together at dinner and finding out how everyone's day went.

Izza...the story of "Cruisetoberfest"
WAY Back in early 2001 I booked the 9/22/01 7 night Magic cruise. I then began e-mailing others on this board who were sailing at the same time. Before long we had about 20 families who were sailing with us. As the sail date got closer we started talking about getting some T-Shirts made, planning some get togethers, ect. Eric (Viking) mentioned that 9/22/01 was the official beginning of Octoberfest in Germany. Since many of the original group were of German desent, we ( I can't remember who's idea it was) coined the phase "Cruisetoberfest". Our T-shirts said CRUISETOBERFEST on the front, and "WE AIN'T AFRAID OF NO HURRICAIN" on the back.
By the time we sailed we had over 100 internet friends to meet up with. The sailing took place just 11 days after the 9/11 attack and we were worried our German friends might not be able to make the trip, but almost all of us made it (a few folks dropped out due to the terrorist attack)! One of the group bought 100 American Flags for us all to wave at the sail a-way party.
We sailed again the following year (9/28/02) with about 5 families from the previous year (We called that cruise "CruisEars") and of course many other "New" friends. Once again we had over 100 people to enjoy our cruise with.
Then we heard from Eric and Anja...they were sailing again!!!So CRUISETOBERFEST II was born! Now we added some original CF(Cruisetoberfest I), and some CE(CruisEars) and we had a
"(Re)union Of Friends". Once again a FANTASTIC time was had by all! Last year Eric and Anja had said it would be a few years before they sailed again....BUT!!!!!THEY WON A 7 NIGHT CRUISE WHILE ON BOARD....SO...Cruisetoberfest III was born!
Papa...Mike and Kathy
@GoofyNut...Art and Cathy
and me RellingTwin...George and Mary (plus kids) have been on all the cruises,
Many more TwinAve,PADisneyFan,CheesePlease, Dan&Scott, CDMickeyLover,Hygiene99,Piglet33,SarahsMom,VideoMa n,TuliRose,BetteMom (please forgive me if I've missed anyone!!) have been on (or are now booked) on 2 or more cruises.
Each time with old friends and new we have a fantastic vacation!
This might be a good time to mention that we in NO WAY want to "take over" anyone's vacation! We do NOT expect anyone to join any get together they don't want too, or feel obligated in ANY WAY!It's great to say hello to everyone at the sail-a-way party, then say hello when you run into them on board. As my very smart sister said "you ARE going to be on board with 2000 people.....you might as well get to know some of them before hand"
For people with children it has the added bonus of having pre-made playmates. The kids get to meet either via e-mail or at the Friday night before we sail and feel right at home with their new friends! For shy kids like my DD this was a real blessing!
Boy oh boy!!! I didn't mean to ramble on so! :earseek:
Anyway...for Izza and anyone else who was wondering, that's my story and I sticking to it!
That's a great story. I feel priveleged to be welcomed so openly by you all when you've been together for so long.
For what it's worth, I love the name. My great-grandmother was full-blooded German, and some day I plan to go over and see where that side of my family comes from.
I'm so excited about this trip, nervous about how the boys will react, and feeling a lot lighter in the wallet. :)

We will pass on the May 15th siding party as we will leaving on our Navigator of the Sea cruise that day.
Just finished watching American Idol, what a long 2 hours. I just am not into it this year. I did think LaToya and Amy did the best tonight.
I think Survivor is on Wed night. So will have to be flipping between Survior and American Idol results show. I want to see Kimberly Locke sing. I can get the results from AI by tuning in the last 2 minutes, since they drag that on and on for 1 hour tomorrow.

Boy oh boy!!! I didn't mean to ramble on so! :earseek:
Anyway...for Izza and anyone else who was wondering, that's my story and I sticking to it!
It all started with a thread on the Boards when I asked "Who's cruising?" and after Mary's initial 'recruiting' the group grew faster and faster. They guy who came up with Cruisetoberfest was Jerry Wiese/DVCNut, who also had German roots. The thread ran for about 9 months. Cruisetoberfest II's thread ran for nearly two years until it was closed due to its sailing date not being in the future.
Our fondest memory - and the cornerstone for a wonderful friendship- was that after not knowing, if we were able to make it to the USA, we already had people waiting out for us. Anja & I were on one of the first aircraft leaving for the states after 9/11. We took off on 9/15 and we we arrived at the AllStarMovies -without our luggage, which was still in Philadelphia- we already had an email waiting for us from Mike (Papa) and the next day we had another message on our voicemail. It made us feel so welcome!!! And all the others sent their best, too. It was really overwhelming.
As some of us were survivors of Hurricane Floyd at WDW in '99 we came up with that slogan.

Kim,
I received a mail from your and from Bernandjon@hotmail.com's account stating that the size of The List exceeded the size of your mailboxes
There's two solutions:
-Get a bigger mailbox (Being male I definitely know: Bigger is better ;) )
-I could send a 'cheap' version of The List w/o all the graphics.
The List has grown to a size of ~700kb. After having a DSL-line for 5 years now I 'forgot' to care about filesize (Remember: Bigger is better).
For everybody:
just tell me your preferences:
-Full version as a Word.doc (No reply necessary)
-Full version as a PDF (Please reply, if there's anyone aport from Ave' who prefers this one
-Down-sized Word.doc (Please reply)
I'll try to cater to all your needs with the next revision. BTW, I will do a drastically reduced version in September anyway. This one will fit on one double-sided sheet and is meant to be your 'extended memory' on the ship, facilitating to adress your new friends correctly and to save you embarrassing moments ('Who the he** was this now' :p )

Peter...
Sorry it is still a sad day :( hopefully each day is getting a little better...
Who knows how many will show up, as in anything you have to plan for everyone and then punt, we could have 15-20 people or 3 people. By 5/15 we will have all the old boards off and the new trim and tyvek house wrap up. So all we have to do on that Saturday is measure and chalk out the lines for the siding and nail those boards up.
I am making a continental Breakfast ( muffins, coffee & fruit) and doing a steak sandwich barbecue for lunch ( veggies & chicken for non meat eaters) and desert.
One of my friends coming is an experienced builder and I have been talking with another builder friend and he went over the stepd for good installation of the siding. So hopefully we will be all set...

Nancy -- Are you sure that AI is going to be on for an hour tonight? Our TV guide shows that it is on from 8:30 to 9 only which presents a real problem since Survivor is on from 8 to 9 which means that winners (or losers) will be chosen at approximately the same time. I know AI was on for an hour last week which was great because then you could watch the last half-hour without missing anything on Survivor.
padisneyfan

jeanniec--- I thought it was only going to be on from 8:30-9pm also, but several people from work said it was to be an hour. When there have been guest artist the past 2 weeks (Rueban and Clay) the results show was an hour. Since Kimberly is singing tonight, it might be an hour. I guess we won't know until tonight since it seems no one knows for sure. Last week is when I caught the rerun of Apprentice, Survivor and AI all at the same time but channel surfing. I will soon need one of those tivo machines.
The community boards have an apprentice spoiler on them. I have avoided opening the article as not sure I want to know who the final 2 are. However, each time I go by it I am tempted to open it up.
Well, I must get to work.

Eric: I also use hotmail so my mailbox has a very limited capacity. If it's not too much trouble, the downgraded version of Word (no graphics) would be alot safer. I try to clean out my email every day, but sometimes people send large photos or I'll be out of town for a few days and I notice that things start to get bounced back. Of course when we move, I plan to ditch our dreadful dial-up service but I still have a few more months to go. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into keeping us so well informed.

From what people are telling me at work, Survivor is a "recap" show tonight--I will watch it anyway just to make sure.
Nancy...I can't believe that you would chose a RCCL cruise over the siding party at Kim's....the steak sandwiches do sound good at Kim's!!! Sam is off that weekend but I don't know if we could make it or not...plus don't know if you would actually want Sam to use a hammer???
Called my kennel yesterday and she can't take the dog the week that we are on the cruise...her and her husband run the kennel and both are elderly and she wanted to take that week off to rest up after the summer busy season....I am hoping a bribe of extra money would help since this is the only kennel that I like using.
By the way.....Sarah is cruising with us!!!

Glad to hear that Sarah is cruising. Was wondering when I saw the list but then maybe I misread it.
Not sure about the siding party but the food sounds good.
I've heard Survivor is a recap show too. Watched a bit of AI last night but got frustrated with so many commercials. Thought Jennifer Hudson looked way different with her hair straightened. Since I only saw bits and pieces can't really say who I liked the best.
Waiting for The Apprentice tomorrow. I do not want to know who are the final two. Hoping I think for Troy and Amy.

Sarah was put on 'No cruising' because I was told by MaryJo that Sarah wouldn't accompany her, but I'll happily put her back on 'cruising'.

Eric....you must have had a dream sequence because I never told you that Sarah wasn't cruising....I have not raised a stupid child....she gets pulled out of school...mom and dad pay for a 7 day cruise plus all of the extras...night at Ron Jon...a few days at the Royal Pacific Hotel at Universal and she would refuse to cruise...no way...we kid her that she has more money than us..she gets money each week for lunch...she conveniently doesn't have time to eat lunch and when she gets home, she asks Sam to go and get her something because she is starving!! (which he ends up paying for!!) In the mean time, she has pocketed her lunch money!!
We are also going to Colorado and Utah for two weeks in August but she doesn't consider that a vacation because she really doesn't want to go there!! At least we'll be knocking another two states off of our list (I am determined to do all 50 states before I die and I am off to a good start!!) We only have about 17 to go and alot of those are states with not much happening (Iowa, Kansas, etc.!!)

BTW Eric...Sarah is so jealous that you are going to London..she said it is so unfair that you live in Europe and can go to all of the great places that she wants to go see!! HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!
She informed me that I better save my money because she wants to go to college in England--she definitely watches way too much of the travel channel. She saw a hotel in Dubai (sp?) that is shaped like a sailboat and wanted to know if we could go there--we went on the website and rates are like $5400.00 a night to start!! My little kitty lost another one of her fangs. This weekend her upper lip was swollen and when she finally let us look at her, her tooth was hanging sideways(yech). We got her to the vet where he pulled her tooth out and then proceeded to say she needs dental work and that there are pet dentists who do fillings etc.
How the hell do you fill the little cats teeth????baby kitty fillings..well anyway shes at least 16 years old so we dont want to put her through the trauma on anesthesia. Heck I resist going to the dentist how would she feel about it. she wont even know whats going on.

Looked up my reservation number on Dreams Unlimited and found out that I do have early seating and stateroom 6548, smack dab in the middle of the ship. :) Is that good or bad? Hmmm. For us, probably good since I hope to be dropping the kids off at Oceaneers Lab daily. :teeth:
I don't watch Survivor or American Idol. I resisted reality tv as long as possible. However, I love The Apprentice, and Average Joe is my guilty pleasure.

She saw a hotel in Dubai (sp?) that is shaped like a sailboat and wanted to know if we could go there--we went on the website and rates are like $5400.00 a night to start!! All I hope is that she marries someone really rich!!
You're talking about the Burj-al-Arab, the only Seven-Star-Hotel in the world. $5400 is the price for a suite, German TAs offer a week at that hotel as low as $1500 - In a regular room of course!!!
The best suite is about $35,000 a night!!!
They have a heli-pad at 600' height from which Tiger Woods just recently hit some very wide drives - For publicity reasons during the Dubai Open. The shape of the hotel mimicks the sail of a yacht. Here's a link : .Burj al Arab (http://www.jumeirahinternational.com/)
If Sarah wants something from England, she just has to mail - But I won't steal the Crown Jewels. I heard that Thames-Lizzie (Our nickname for Her Majesty;) ) is quite fond of them.
And I guess that there are also people who are jealous of her living in in PA, being within reach of all those wonderful New England states, having Indian Summer, etc. Usually we all long for things we don't have and value the things we have not enough. But I must admit, that we are very lucky to have so many different cultures all within a couple of hours' drive or flight.Burj al Arab (http://www.jumeirahinternational.com/)

Ooops,
perhaps I drank from the same bottle as Kim :teeth:
I noted that you considered only states as dull, where we don't have co-cruisers from ;) For us so far it was only : Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, New York. But I must admit that we only switched planes in the last three. This year we'll add South Carolina and Georgia to our list. Our future plans aim more at the West: A roundtrip covering Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and perhaps California and New Mexico. And a round-trip including most of the New England states is on our list as well, and Hawaii of course!!!
We don't have any plans for 2005 so far, but we'll probably tour the Mediterranean or do above mentioned tour through Wild, Wild West. With only six to seven weeks of vacation per year we have to plan very carefully :hyper: ;)

Eric....you will really enjoy Arizona and New Mexico...we did that a few years ago and it was a great trip. Missouri was also very nice last year and I had my doubts...went to Independence to Harry Truman's house and Library and went to St. Louis to see the Arch.
Actually like Kim McBirdie...has a certain ring to it!!
We (Sam and I) are also looking forward to Colorado and Utah..flying into Denver and spending a week in Breckenridge and then driving to Salt Lake City and spending a week there. Free airfare plus using timeshares...how could I get a better deal!!
That is the hotel that Sarah saw...I reminded her that it is in the Middle East and that might not be a good spot to be in right now!!

Ok checked out the link -- what a riot. I checked for a week in May it's only $4000 US for just a deluxe suite but I could add on butler packing and unpacking. I could also add for an extra charge a chauffer with a rolls royce. Sarah has expensive tastes but I can understand why as it looks really neat. Tad too expensive but neat.
Actually my very first boyfriend (I was 12) is now a pilot and I believe he might be in Dubai -- he's somewhere in the Middle East working as a airline pilot since he got laid off from Air Canada. His parents and my mom are still friends.

Oh, Arlene, you are so right about that.....I'd sell my soul for a New York bagel! When Jenni comes home from PA she always brings a dozen bagels which are alot closer to the NY product than what they sell here.
Viking: you're welcome to come here but you'll have to act quickly.......right now we have 6 bedrooms and 5 full baths (in fact, I could probably host the whole mini-meet!). But since I don't enjoy cleaning (and don't feel comfortable having someone else tend to my dirt), I can't wait to ditch this place. You'll have to eat KKs, though. You can wash them down with sweet tea, the official drink of the south, and REALLY get a sugar rush!

How could I forget fondue and racquette (spelling is probably wrong), the Fetes des Vendages (wine festival after the picking of the grapes is over). It's the only time that the Swiss let go.

You spelled fondue perfectly, but the other word is raclette. Switzerland is fun, we spent a week there when my ex-wife and her hubby worked there. But if the word expensive didn't exist, you would invent it there  Everything is so expensive you won't believe it.
Jeanne & Kim,
we haven't made plans for next two years so far, but thanks a lot anyway. We can talk on the ship about it. And you can then ask the Twins how the Germans behaved, because we're visiting them this year in Charleston and in PCB ;)

You're right about Switzerland being expensive but the chocolate is great and cheap. I brought back chocolate and candy that you can't get here (Sugus -- again spelling is probably wrong) but we loved them. They are like frutella but better. We even visited the factory where they were being made as well as lots of chocolate being made which smelled amazing. The customs official couldn't believe that I was actually declaring $300 worth of chocolate and candy!!! It was a great feast when my trunk finally arrived home with all the goodies.
I was actually quite lucky to go. After school ended I traveled with a girlfriend for 2 weeks and then my brother came over and we backpacked through Europe for 6 weeks. Haven't been back since (this was summer of 1984) but really want to.

P.S. Thanks for the correct spelling.

Fiona,
friends of ours gave us an electric raclette-set for six persons about 5 years ago and since then we're trying to get the six of us together to have a nice evening feasting. As you may remember doing a raclette is a kind of social event, which may take 3 or more hours. It requires a lot of preparations, cutting all the stuff etc. But in the end its worth it. We're planning on using it perhaps on Friday 13th of August this year as this is our 11th anniversery. We usually celebrate it alone, but if it falls on a Friday we make it a party as we deliberately married Friday 13th of August 1993. We even had to marry at 815am in the morning, because that was last avaible slot - Our guests loved us for it :teeth: Getting all dressed up that early wasn't exactly fun, especially as the offical fest started at 6pm:hyper: But after the ceremony in our 900 year old city hall we had a very lengthy brunch. Then my Dad took all the out-of-town folk onto a guide tour through our historic downtown.
The only problem this year: 08/13/04 is also the day of the official opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games Athens and with Greece being in the same timezone we -and-our firends don't intend to miss it. Perhaps we plan the party 'around' the broadcast.

RRSP = Registered Retirement Savings Plan I believe it's similar to the US 401K?
You pay money into the plan for your retirement. The good thing is that you don't have to pay tax on the earnings of the money in the plan and you get a tax deduction for the amount you put in. I think you can put up to 18% of your income into an RRSP every year to a maximum of like $13,000. I do put money away but no where near the maximum -- hey like I have to live.
You get to keep it until you turn 69 and then you have to turn it into a RRIF -- registered retirement investment fund (I think). This is where you have it turn into an annunity to pay out the money to you which is then taxable but the idea being that your tax rate is lower because your income is lower.

Have not heard of the band "The Arrogant Worms" but don't doubt that it is funny when making fun of those to the south of us.
There was an entire program here where Rick Mercer (a comedian) went to America and asked Americans questions about Canada. Quite funny. No offense to Americans and I'm sure they edited out the people who got the answers right but no we don't ski all year, we don't live in igloos, all Mounties do not ride horses, yes we do have television, yes we do have telephones. It was absolutely amazing the answers that people gave.

Like the dates for MNSSHP -- was actually just speaking to the lawyer who will cover for me. He was looking at our file list and said are you sure you want to go away? Looks pretty busy in the fall. Just looked at him and said hey when your hearing starts I'm on a boat. He was asking how long and I said well maybe just the week and then a couple of days, depends on MNSSHP (at which he looked at me blankly). He started to actually think about when I'm away and said you know it's like 2 weeks you'll be away and I just laughed. He hasn't figured out yet that I'm leaving at month end. :p
I won't have a problem getting the time off though because it's been booked for months and he's taking at least a month off this summer.
I would have trouble taking time off during the summer but during the fall/winter/spring is not a problem except Dec. which is year end.
Not a bad place to work in terms of vacation.
Looks like the 12th for us too I hope.

We got a similar thing over here, but we're only allowed to put about $4000 taxfree into it. Meaning that we can pay the money into that plan before our salaries are taxed. But the annuity you'll get in the end will be taxed, too.

Hi Guys, A few weeks ago I posted about a group tour while in St. Thomas. If we have 20 people minimum and up to 25 maximum we can rent our own jeep safari open tour vehicle and driver for the day. The cost comes out to a reasonable $ 20.00 each person plus a tip for the driver. All other expenses are our responsibility, lunch, shopping & so on…
Right now here is the list of who is confirmed to go on the tour.
Join the group :grouphug: we only need 7 more souls to join us for a day of fun… E-mail me, or post here if interested and I will add you to the list. Once we have 20 people confirmed we can finalize the reservation in St. Thomas.

The general consensus is that we would like to tour for the morning, go somewhere “quaint” where we can have lunch, a little swim for those water people, some "siesta" time perhaps, and a little unique shopping, then end the day will high test shopping at the center of town in the marketplace. Anyone who wanted to opt out of shopping can be brought back to the ship and perhaps we can schedule 2 pickups in town for those shopping veterans and those who are shopping lightweights.
Bye, Kim
P.S. For those of us who went to camp, or school bus trips you might get a sing along going... Well perhaps we want to have our own sing along on the safari tour, most all of us know how quiet and reserved Peter is so I think that we need to pull him out of his "shell" and nominate him to be in charge of the music on the tour....:tongue::tongue:

Hi Folks,
we'd just like to say Goodbye
We already checked in our luggage at Frankfurt International and got our boarding passes, drove home, used the phone to 'cook' some Vietnamese dinner and now we're watching Twister on TV. Tomorrow we'll have to get up at 0430am  , drive to my office, which is just about 10 minutes from the airport and park our car. I already ordered a cab for 0600am to get us to the airport.
The friendly lady at the check-in gave us seats in an emergency-exit row, which is good for some extra legroom :bounce: Although it doesn't really matter on a short hop of 1:40 hours it's nice to be able to stretch your legs.
In about 12 hours we'll be in London :jumping1:

It's warmer here today but we've had rain.
Last night went bowling with the office to support Big Borthers and Big Sisters. Our team is not getting the free pizza lunch. We had two teams and as a competition between the two teams the one team with the highest score got a free lunch at Pizza Hut. Played two games and threw out the highest and lowest core in each game and added up the totals. I only bowl once a year at this event but did manage to get a strike. I also wasn't lowest score. Dinner at East Side Marios followed where they talked about having another golf tournament this summer. Yuck. Not a fun afternoon and one of the clerks wants to make it mandatory to attend. :(
On a better note we are off to a dismeet in London -- unfortunately not the same London as Eric and Anja. Should be fun.
Should go get ready.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Just saw in another post that Disney ticket prices are going up this Sunday. Here's the new prices:
$58.31 for adults
$46.60 for Children
In case anyone needs to buy tickets for this year's trip, you better do it before Sunday or you'll be spending more.

Hi Renee',
To answer your question, I am not sure what flight we will be on Thursday night but we are hoping to get on the Southwest direct at 6:30 om. If i can't get tickets on that flight I will try the 3:30 flight. We will picj up our car at MCO and then head to the cape. I did call the Walmart on the island and they are open 24 hours so we decided that we will stop on our way to the resort and pick up soda & water for the cruise. Then Friday all we have to do is visit Shirley and get together for dinner. I will let you know when we arrive by plane and perhaps we can make some plans. What time do you guys get into MCO ??.

Hi Kim -
We're arriving on Friday at 11:47 a.m. and leaving on Wednesday at 5:35 p.m. Both flights are on Continental. We're getting our car from MCO too (Budget) and are also planning on stopping at Walmart to pick up diapers for Haley and maybe some stuff to drink.

Hi Mary Jo -- got your message. We had a great time at the Dismeet. We are now planning one in Toronto probably in May.
I am definitely ready to go on the cruise now. We spent the drive looking at the I-75 book and planning our stops!
Am going to Costco this morning -- we are again out of milk. At times I'm sure having a cow would have been cheaper. DS drinks the stuff a bag at a time it seems. It's cheapest at Costco so tend to do there but have to go first thing in the morning or the lines are unbelievable.
Hope everyone's having a great weekend.

Old New Hampshire
Written by Dr. John F. Holmes
Composed by Maurice Hoffmann
With a skill that knows no measure,
From the golden store of Fate
God, in His great love and wisdom,
Made the rugged Granite State;
Made the lakes, the fields, the forests;
Made the Rivers and the rills;
Made the bubbling, crystal fountains
Of New Hampshire's Granite Hills.
Old New Hampshire, Old New Hampshire
Old New Hampshire Grand and Great
We will sing of Old New Hampshire,
Of the dear old Granite State
Builded He New Hampshire glorious
From the borders to the sea;
And with matchless charm and splendor
Blessed her for eternity.
Here, the majesty of mountain;
Here, the grandeur of the lake;
Here, the truth as from the hillside
Whence her crystal waters break.
Old New Hampshire, Old New Hampshire
Old New Hampshire Grand and Great
We will sing of Old New Hampshire,
Of the dear old Granite State

We are heading to Florida tomorrow, a sad trip. George's best friend passed away Friday night. It was very unexpected and we are still in shock. He was only 48 years old!:( George and he were roommates when we met, (20 years ago) and they have been like brothers.
Ave, see you late tomorrow night.

Mary -- Sorry about George's friend. How shocking and at such a young age.
I had another one of my self-diagnosed "gall bladder attacks" last Thursday, and this one sent me to our ER where I had an ultrasound that gave me an official diagnosis of multiple gallstones. Tomorrow, I have an appointment with a surgeon to discuss a surgery date. We are leaving for WDW on 5/1 so I want to have this surgery done as soon as possible. Don't want to spend part of our vacation in the Celebration ER! I am also glad that I won't be having any problems of this kind when we are out to sea in October.

Mary: so sorry about your loss. 48 is awfully young....do they know what the cause was?
Jeannie: hope you're feeling better. My DD had the laser gallbladder surgery abvout 10 years ago and he was back to normal within a week. If you have it right away, you should be good as gold for your Disney trip.
Nancy, Arlene, Mary-Jo: we still need a name for the table! If we take the first letters of our last names, we get HIFO. Anybody have an accounting background? I ask because it reminds me of LIFO and FIFO which are accounting terms and describe the status of things moving in and out. Since we're refering to our dining group, we can always tell people it stands for Hungry-In/Full-Out! Please let me know what you think.....if this one doesn't fly, I'm just gonna call ourselves the No-Name Diners!

Renee we are planning on going to see the vietnam veterans wall, watch the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldiers and other tourist stuff along with having dinner Saturday night at Phillips seafood restaurant.
You can get an all day pass for the metro for 6 bucks that gives you unlimited rides and transfers for the day. It really helps to cut down on the walking. Thanks for the info. I already got our Metro tickets (I ordered them online). Lenny really wants to check out the Air & Space museum both on the Mall and the one near Dulles Airport. I had a nasty surprise yesterday coming home from slaving away over a baby all night. I was leaving work and coming around the next to the last turn in the parking garage when my car just stopped! I was so embarassed. The funny thing about it was that I was leaving work to take it to the dealership for it's 40 thousand mile check up. I called Mike, who told me to call the dealership, who told me to call roadside service, who called AAA towing, who called me to tell me that their big ole car hauler would NOT fit in the garage and could I get the car out pushing it? Well!, I never!!!! (That was a southern belle expression princess: )
Just thought you all would get a laugh out of that. I can laugh...now...but I wasn't laughing yesterday morning. By the way, the car's fuel injector pump broke.
Take care everyone and anyone on the road be careful. Kathy with a K

This from a job that I would usually say isn't all that stressful or at least stressful with humour in it. Once had a house closing where the front door was stolen the day of closing!!! He is a little freaked out, but said he would read some of the boards and let me know soon. Hopefully before you fill the last two spots! I was wondering if anyone would give a brief account of who and how all of you got together, as I do not know how much of the discussions he will get through! This will be our 3rd anniversary on the cruise and even though we want to spend time together, I thought it would be nice to at least know something of the people we would be sharing dinner with and possibly more fun with if we choose!
@GoofyNut...Art and Cathy
and me RellingTwin...George and Mary (plus kids) have been on all the cruises,
Many more TwinAve,PADisneyFan,CheesePlease, Dan&Scott, CDMickeyLover,Hygiene99,Piglet33,SarahsMom,VideoMa n,TuliRose,BetteMom (please forgive me if I've missed anyone!!) have been on (or are now booked) on 2 or more cruises.

Well just a few more hours of work before we can leave for the DC meet ... boy do I need this "re-charge". Hope Anja and eric are having a good time in Englan on their "Holiday".

Fridayfun -- tell your DH (which is husband) not to worry.
Jim and I have said over and over to each other that we are so glad that we met these people on the boards and ate dinner with them. It really made the cruise for us. As there was just the two of us we knew we would be seated with others and this way we 'picked' who we would eat with. It was great talking to everyone at dinner and finding out what everyone else did during the day because most of the time we all did something different.
It's also great walking around the Magic and running into people that you know. Makes for a very friendly vacation. The CM's got to know us too since we all had t-shirts and name tags.
You can join us for as little or as much as you want. There is no pressure at all.
Now nobody at work will understand what the heck you're talking about but that's ok -- even my family doesn't really get it. :p
Now wouldn't cruise without my DIS family. :grouphug:

Welcome to Fridayfun. I must confess my DH had the same reaction...but now agrees the DIS'ers were what made a good vacation into a GREAT vacation. Some people join in a lot of things, others join in very little. NO PRESSURE! It's your vacation, do as much or as little as you want.

We rented a Jeep and took the top off. I doubt the tour bus experience was quite as enjoyable! Sampled a lot of local seafood. Folks there were quite nice compared to other island folks we've experienced in the past. Last year was our first time we met any of the people on these boards but it was such a great experience that we signed up to do another cruise with everybody.
When I first started posting/reading this board I was very intimidated by some of the postings because of how close everybody already was.
When I first told family members and friends that we were going to the mini disney meet in Baltimore to meet some of the people they thought we were strange to do this. Not only did we have a great time on the mini meet but were looking forward to the actual cruise even more. Well when we go to the actual cruise we met even more people and got a warm feeling because everybody was so welcoming. The best part was that even though we were traveling just the two of us(we have no kids) we felt like we were traveling with a whole group. We still did things just the two of us but as you walked around the ship or did an activity there always seemed to be someone else to say hi to or to hang with if you wanted to..but you didnt have to if you didnt want to. We were so amazed how nice the people were and how much they did for the other people. We made some good friends that we still occasionally email just because.
Am I rambling or what? You can set your husbands mind at ease...we were apprehensive at first but it turned out to be a great experience and cant wait to do it again..

Couldn't believe on Survivor yesterday how scared everyone is of Boston Rob. Looks interesting next week. I didn't really like Jerri but don't think it was necessarily smart for them to let Boston Rob rule the game.
Was sorry to see Troy go on the Apprentice. I really liked him as he seems to be really quite nice. One of my co-workers has a friend that worked with Kwame and said that he really is a nice guy. I just want the jet -- that was really nice.

Well, had my DH read the posts after work and he cracked up! He said that if I wanted to know who I was sitting with for dinner, I could, so hopefully we get to sit with everyone! I wanted to say, we have been on one DCL trip before (Sept 2000 - 3 land 4 sea), but this longer one seems so different and more exciting! We go to Disney World every year for vacation and everyone at work thinks we are crazy! It is nice to know others feel the same (and are not 12 years old!) and I can't wait for 10/02/04 to arrive!!!:earseek:

Welcome, fridayfun! We re new to this group new and we are looking forward to meeting everyone in person.
I had my gallbladder surgery Thursday and seemed to have survived without too much pain. I have to keep shooing the cats away when they are ready to pounce on my stomach, tho. I get a week off from work -- actually thought I would be back next week, but the surgeon is kindly giving me a week at home.

I read here that some of you are doing a jeep tour in Antigua or something of the like, but is anyone else considering "Adventure Antigua Eco Tour?" We just reserved our spot, so I was curious if any one else had considered or booked this excursion?

I was going to hunt through the pages of this thread, but 115 is alot of hunting!

Hi Jeannie, Hope you are up and going soon. Take all the time you can squeeze out for your recovery. Mom says Hi too, however
she is in the hospital now also. She messed up her back real bad yesterday afternoon and is now a guest at our local hospital for the next 4-5 days.
Hope everyone who is at DC is having a great time..
Bye, Kim

George & Mary,
Anja & I want to expess our condolences on your loss :( 48 is really the wrong age to go!!! Tragedies like this make you think about your own mortality, don't they? One of the reasons why I left emergency medical service!!!
Jeanne,
good to hear that you're recovering from your surgery.
Fridayfun and 1971visitor,
welcome :wave2: I'll check out the antiguaorbust-mail-box later.
To everyone,
As you can see: Ze Germanz are back!!!
London was great, but you won't believe the air pollution  You really can see what you're breathing
More details later, gotta check the mail now

Welcome back Eric and Anja! Glad you had a good time. We missed you.
Fridayfun, my DD said to tell you she loves your icon. The kitty remindes her of one of our cats. Glad your DH spent some time reading the boards. Hope he didn't go through all 115 pages.:teeth: My DH felt the same way about meeting other people. On our first cruise he was like "you do what you what, but I am not interested in meeting anyone". On the drive home from the cruise he said, "you know I wouldn't mind going on another cruise" and I said "good, cause I've already booked us for next year!":hyper: Then we went on Cruisetoberfest II. I can't begin to tell you how much fun he had. Cruisetoberfest will be our last cruise for a while though. Of course that's what we said last year.
The planning, to me, is almost as much fun as the trip itself.
Busy day for me today, car wash, haircut, running DH into town to get his muffler fixed, and the ever present, ever mounting pile of laundry. I'm working at job #2 tomorrow, so I have to get everything done today.
Later, Ave'

Jill and Tim: We are sailing on the 9/18/04 Antigua cruise and booked the eco tour through the web site. I read many positive reports regarding this tour on the RCCL website. We didn't want to wait for DCL to publish their Antigua excursions and not get a reservation for the eco tour.
Enjoy!

Bette and jeannie: I hope you both are feeling better soon.
Eric and Anja: welcome back!
To all the DISers at the DC meet: I hope you're having a wonderful time. If my son from LA wasn't here right now, we would have joined you.
twinfoxes: I checked out that web site for the eco tour and was wondering if the full day tour will fit into our time frame. I believe the half day one had to be by private charter arrangements. I'm always wary of doing a "full day" excursion with someone other than DCL for the reason that if something goes wrong and you get unexpectedly delayed, the possibility exists that you could miss the ship's departure from port. At least with a DCV excursion you know that wouldn't happen. Just something to think about.......

I was assured (as I am now crossing my fingers) we would be back at our meeting site (which is "a 3 minute walk" from the ships dock) by 4:15, and they could make accomodations to those whose departure time was earlier than the typical 5:00. Our itinerary has a leave time of 5:30 and I (once again crossing my fingers!!!!) think it should work out. The tour sounded too good to pass up!!
Can I keep my fingers crossed for another 5 months or so?!

Before booking the eco tour for the 9/18 cruise, I emailed antigua adventure. I was assured that we would be back at the Magic by 4:15 p.m. This company does a lot of day trips for cruisers and they already knew the Magic's time frame in Antigua. I'll be sure to post a report upon our return from the 9/18 cruise.

OK! All of our info is sent! This is not fair, though! I was excited before about the cruise, now I don't know if I am going to make it until then! But I will ask my first question, though. Formal night - I read that only a few men wear a tux. DH was going to get a nice black suit and dress it up for formal, but wanted to make sure that he would not be alone or if the $85 for a tux rental would be more appropriate. I have seen a few questions about this but that is our one big issue - we want to dress up, but not look out of place!princess:

That means that we'll be neighbors!!!!!! The cabin we switched to is only one door up from the one you have now. I'm so glad you were able to get what you wanted. BTW, it looks like we'll in in good company.....Fiona and Jim ar just a few doors down as well! My husband also loves that deck on 7aft.......whenever he's missing I can usually find him asleep in a lounge chair back there!
fridayfun: if your DH wants to get a tux, by all means go for it. On the other hand, if he hates to dress up, an ordinary suit is perfect. There is a very broad range of what is acceptable for formal night and he should wear whatever is comfortable for him (within reason). We've all seen some super-casual diners (even some with shorts!) and, to Disney's credit, they receive the same attentive and gracious service that everybody else does. Those are the ones that should feel out of place...but never seem to!
I'm sure your hubby will be fine in a regular suit or nice sports jacket. My own hubby wears a suit and tie every day at work, so he does not enjoy getting all dressed up when he's on vacation. He'll bring one dark suit and several different ties to get him through formal, semi-formal and Palo nights. Now that I'm older (and wider!) I too resist getting all spiffied up. I've got some black Chico's travelwear that I absolutely swear by and that, with a few various accessories, gets me through all the dressy occasions. I am also fanatical about packing light (it's a game to me) so I do everything I possibly can to take the absolute minimum.

I bought a tux for my first 7-day in 2001 and wasn't overdressed at all. I wore it for the formal and the semi-formal. Last 7-day I wore it for the formal and a regular jacket & tie for the semi-formal. We were six couples at our table, some of the men wore a suit, some a tux - and it was like that in all restaurants. So you won't be underdressed with a suit nor overdressed with a tux.
Just flip a coin: Heads=tux - Tails=suit :jester:

I'll try my very best to squeeze in the time for the necessary update tomorrow, although I'm going to have a very busy day.
Anja has to work the intermediate shift (12pm-8pm) tomorrow and our fridge is totally empty and as the shops in Germany still close at 8pm I'll be kind of in a rush the whole day: Work off the backlog after a vacation, run 6 miles on the treadmill, do the shopping, get home in time for the update, pick up Anja at the hospital.
I'll try my best!!!!
Please send all your changes until tomorrow noon EST.
