ok post #1000 for me. Wish it was the day before the cruise instead though. It's supposed to warm up here in the next couple of days to 'normal' temperatures rather than the deep freeze that we've been in. Personally, let's just jump to spring!!

WELCOME DISNEYBRIDE96

I heard that the groundhog saw his shadow and now six more weeks of winter.:(

So for Monday night into Tues, we are to have more snow. Sunday was the only warm day (34 degrees) that we have had in weeks. It is pretty bad when I think 34 is warm.

Congratulations Fionna on post #1000.

The only thing I watched from the Super Bowl was the horrible half time show. If Janet and Justin were going for the shock factor they achieved it. Of course, that is what everyone is talking about at work.

So glad that Kim and Bette are now officially coming with us.

Was sick all weekend with a bad cold and sore throat. It is the first time in a couple of years that I had a cold. So mostly just laid around all weekend. But back to work today.

Did anyone catch Survivor All Star last night. I feel asleep after the immunity challenge.

Nice to see you posting Cathy.

I stayed up and watched Survivor All Star -- am yawning today to prove it too.

Did you want to know who was voted out? I think this one is going to be interesting. On the previews for the second episode it looks like Rudy isn't doing so well which I hope is wrong because I really like him. They are replaying the first episode Tuesday night in case anyone missed it.

Nancy:

Survivor All Star will be rebroadcasted tuesday night at 8 pm so you can catch whatever you missed. If only I would have known I would have gone to sleep earlier....

It was great to have survivor back on tv again and even more fun to see the old contestants since we already know what they are like and dont have to get used to a whole new group of people and trying to figure out who is who and try to remember the next day about them....

Cant wait till thursday,,survivor and then the apprentice...

I'm so psyched about the new "Survivor". I just love my boys Ethan, Colby and Rupert! Poor Ethan, he looked like he was really struggling last night....and he knows that as a past winner he's a prime target to be voted out. I agree that Rudy is not up to the challenges, but I'd really like to see those 2 b*tches out before he goes. Isn't Richard a complete jerk? If I were on his team, I think I'd have a little accident with the machete! It's gonna be an interesting show.....

Susan: Welcome to the party!

Arlene: Please pm me with your ressie info. Thanks!

How comes that everyone is talking about Groundhog Day, but nobody -except the non-native speaker- has the guts to write Punxsutawney Phil's name :teeth: :jester:
We had temps well in the 50ies today, but lots of rain- All the snow is gone and for Thursday we even have 18°C/64°F forecast :sunny: The weather is really

On AOL-Germany they just took a poll 'Did Justin & Janet do this on purpose to bust , oops, boost (Sorry for the pun, I simply couldn't resist;) ) her popularity or was it an accident?' 64% voted "On purpose".

Hi Guys, Kim here...

Of Course it was a deliberate stunt, otherwise she would not have been wearing a pastie ... It puzzles me how someone could think that that stunt at a public event was amusing ??? Yuk!!

Colleen, please e-mail me your reservation # so my TA can get our dinner table all set up... My day is almost over, now I only have a 45 min drive home.

Kim--- That's no pastie. I got this link from the community board and shows it up close and personal for any one interested. Makes me hurt there. Just be warned this is very graphic.

http://www.drudgereport.com/mattjj.htm

It has been the talk all day at work. I agree it was on purpose otherwise why would you be wearing this.

Punxsutawney Phil is the most famous groundhog I just didn't want to struggle to spell his name. To me it looks like a good reason to party in the middle of the winter. There isn't much else to do in Punxsutawney, PA.

I searched the web to find out who was kicked off last night. Will be interesting to see if all the previous winners go first. Richard was so obnoxious. More than I remember.

I am trying to stay away from American Idol as I got so addicted the last time. Instead will be hooked on Survivor. The only problem is that 2 x month I have a meeting on Thursday night. And I never can seem to get the VCR to record correctly.

Hey Eric ... Our local news just said that Ground Hog day is a German Superstition ... If a hibernating animal wakes up and sees his shadow, etc, etc, etc. Well I only have one thing to say ... do they taste like chicken! If you get my drift.

Nancy ... I used your link to view the half-time spectacle and I only have one thing to say about that :earseek: :earseek: .
And she had no idea it was planned my butt.

BTW wait till you see the Survivor ... Now I remember why I didn't like Richard. I guess he was jealous about Rupert wearing the skirt...Rupert, however, looked better in it. Don't want to ruin the suspense on who gets voted off but here is a hint ... it was one of the previous million $ winners. Geez I love that show. (It comes in second to the DIS cruises and my Dis Family!)

Gotta run and finish my dinner ... must be almost done cause I can smell it all the way down the hall.

See Ya !

I watched the Super Bowl from begining to end. Loved the game, Loved the commercials. And that's coming from someone who normally doesn't watch TV at all. The only part of the show I missed was the half-time show. I really had NO intrest in the entertainment scheduled this year. Only heard about the J. Jackson thing when I got to work today. Glad I missed it! What a stupid thing to do!

What's the FCC?

Perhaps it just runs in the family - But I must admit that I prefer her kind of acting weird to her brother's sick way.
BTW, over here it didn't cause an uproar as you can see more in the average commercial ;)

FCC----Federal Communication Commission. The governement ruling body who over sees the TV and radio airways. Howard Stern has been fined by them many times.

I did gather from the discussion on the Community Board that the Europeans were less offended than Americans. It happened so quick and then the lights went out, that you hardly saw anything. I didn't realize that her **** was exposed, I just thought he pulled off an article of clothing. The entire incident has been replayed a thousand times yesterday and I'm sure it will continue today. It must be a slow news week, if are main concern is Janet's ****. At least it gives us a break from all the Presidental candidates.

Freezing rain today. So will be slip sliding away today.

Count me in as another Antigua cruiser who is very happy that Survivor is back on. I'm not sure that I am going to like this one as much as the traditional Survivors of the past, tho. After Tina got voted off (because she had already won), does that mean that all former winners will get voted off as soon as their tribe members get a chance. Doesn't seem like there is much point in having them compete if that is the case. Poor Ethan. He'll be the next to go from that tribe. And Rupert seems like such a mild mannered guy on this show compared to Pearl Island.

I am also delighted that American Idol is back on. I was lost without my two favorite TV programs. These are about the only programs that I try very hard not to miss. I also really like Everybody Loves Raymond altho last night's episode was not that great. They said they were runnning out of material for new shows and last night seemed to prove that statement.

Really getting anxious for the cruise after all the crummy weather around here.

doris roberts was on tv yesterday and said that they will decide in 2 weeks whether or not 'raymond' will be coming back for another season.

andy always teases me about the shows i watch but if he will sit down and watch the show and ask questions

is it time for the cruise yet???

Arlene -- Is it too late to start watching The Apprentice? Would you be lost by not viewing it from the beginning and knowing what it is all about? I have heard that it is a good program, but I just can't stand watching Donald Trump and especially the comb-over. With all his money, why doesn't he just get a hair transplant or a good toupee or something. I guess maybe he thinks he looks good.

I'll be curious to see what they decide about Raymond. I have enjoyed that show for many years. It is so true to life. I can watch the reruns over and over (most of them) and still find myself laughing as hard as the first time I saw the show.

Folks,
I got disneybride96's info, which means that a new edition of the List is due.
Unfortunately I won't have time to do it tomorrow, as my Gramps' VCR broke down. So tomorrow I'll have to try to fix it (Highly improbable:rolleyes: ) or have to drive with Gramps to the next electronics outlet and get a new one. This will be fun: Teaching a 90-year-old how to operate his new VCR and better yet: How to program a recording :p I'll use this opportunity to rearrange his equipment: Big-Screen-TV, Stereo and DVD, to save some space and tidy up the mess of cables and wires behind his rack.
Fortunately Gramps still has a sharp mind and usually gets the hang of it quickly. Nevertheless I'll pop up at his home at 5pm and think I will need until 1030pm - This is when I have to pick up Anja at the hospital.
Thursday I'll be at the Gym for an extra-long workout, but Friday Anja does the lateshift again and I will have plenty of time to do The List.

So please send all your changes or additional infos until Friday, Noon EST.

OK, gotta catch some Zs now, See Y'all

Hi, folks!

Long-lost Colleen is finally checking in on the board, but not with good news, I'm afraid. I want to get this in before Eric does the update later this week.

There have been some cut-backs in overtime, bonuses eliminated, etc. at Don's work that have hit our bank account pretty hard the past few months or so with no end in sight at the moment.

We've discussed my getting another job during the day in addition to the part time evenings, but that would mean I wouldn't be able to still watch Becca and the new little girl on the way in March. Grandkids don't stay little for very long, and we'd miss so much if I did that. Plus, it would put an added financial burden on DD and family to have to put them into daycare.

So, long story short ( or is it too late for that?), we've decided to cancel the cruise. We sure will miss cruising with all of you again, but hopefully, things will be looking up for us and we can join in for Cruisetoberfest IV.

Now, do we have a volunteer to take over the cell phone list?

I'm sure we'll be lurking, maybe jump in now and then.

Take care and keep in touch. Oh, we have a new email address, but I switched it here at the DIS, so no problem, right?

Colleen

I'm sorry to hear that, Colleen :( , but If you like to stay in touch with us I could take you off the List, but keep you on the mailing-list. How about that?
If nobody takes over the Cellfon-list I'll incorporate it into the List or put and appendix to it.

it is not too late to start watching the apprentice. the only thing that you may have missed is some of the internal fighting in the teams. actually this week should be more exciting since prior to this the women were on one team and the men on the other. this week the teams combine(?). perhaps now it will be more of an individual challenge.

another show i like to watch and still laugh at is 'king of queens' . in my area its on wednesday nights at 9 pm and also 6 days a week from 6 pm to 7 pm. even andy laughs when we watch the show.

Colleen and Don so sorry to hear that you won't be cruising with us this year. Keep in touch with us.

I was constantly switching between channels from 8-9pm last night. Was able to catch the parts of Survivor I missed, some of American Idol, and I have this thing going right now where I have been watching "The Nanny" on Lifetime TV @ 8pm. Of course wasn't The Nanny 2 episodes I haven't seen before. Since there are still so many contestants on AI yet, I won't worry about missing some of those shows till we get to the final 10 or 12.
I have watched some of the Apprentice. The Girls have ruled on the assignments. Will be interesting to see them combined. I agree why does Donald Trump have to keep that horrible comb over. Can he really think it looks attractive?

I always thought that Mother's spit was the ultimate cleaner.

I like both Raymond and King of Queens. Lately, I spend more time watching reruns of the sitcoms than the newer shows. Lifetime has some of my favorites, Golden Girls, Designing Women, and now The Nanny. Nick at Night has Cosby Show. TV Land has them all. It is mindless TV watching and makes you laugh. Plus this month, Turner Classic Movies has all the Oscar winning or nominated movies on. So they have alot of great movies this month. The main problem I have is when I sit down in the evening to watch TV, I usually fall asleep. Then I wake up around midnight and have trouble going back to sleep.

We are going to have a heat wave today, up to 40 degrees. Yesterday, we lucked out and got mostly heavy rain with out any snow accumulation, sleet and the freezing rain was only at the beginning. Spring can't come soon enough.

Very weird about the word cruise.

Am so sorry you won't be with us in October Colleen and Don. You will be missed but please still post so we know how you are and we will see you again for Cruistoberfest IV.

Link to Janet's display is just plain painful. How comfortable could that possibly be?

Can't remember who asked about the Apprentice but you can I think just jump right in. So far, I'm not impressed with the women's actions on some things although they do keep winning. The men need some help. If they are joining together this week that should be interesting.

Weather is getting colder here again. Saw that Orlando is supposed to go up to 81F tomorrow. Sure wish I was there.

Political question again -- how do the delegates work for the states? John Kerry has won 7 states but does that mean he gets all of the delegates for that state or do they split the delegates depending on the percentage of votes he won? We don't have primaries here -- each political party has a convention to chose a new leader that has delegates attend who vote at the convention for the leader but it's all within each party. We also don't vote per se for our Prime Minister as the Prime Minister is just the leader of the party that wins the most seats during the election. Just recently we got a new PM but we didn't vote for him the Liberal Party did. Just curious on how it works in the US.

BTW, Operation Gramps' VCR has been accomplished. After opening the old one and finding a fuse which was hidden deep in the bowels of the device and had to be extracted by using my Leatherman and a pair of pliers I was hoping that this was the cause for the brekdown. Unfortunatley the fuse was in perfect shape  So I closed the hatch, put Gramps in my car and drove him to ProMarkt (Comparable to BestBuy or CompUSA) where they had a special offer in VCRs. But then I found a combo of DVD and VHS-VCR in one housing. The device was on the last one and had been on display for a week. So they reduced it from €499 to €199 for us!!!Now I'm going to sell his old DVD-player on Ebay. After about three hours work for rearranging his living room, connecting lots of cables and wires, rearranging more than 30 cable-channels of the VCR to match those of the TV and giving thorough instructions I left to pick up Anja - Now I need a good night's sleep - And expect Gramps to call first thing in the morning to ahve all the instructions repeated ;)

Before I forget it: We had temps in upper 50ies today and more predicted for tomorrow, but winter will be back after the weekend :(

We men could wear elephant trunks to match the ears Eric was talking about.

Fiona when we vote in the presidential race in November there are two votes. The popular vote and the electoral vote. The popular vote determines who wins that particular state. The number of electoral votes for each state is determined by the number of seats each state has in the United States congress. If I am not mistaken 270 electoral votes are needed to elect the President. Mike

One less now as he used to have one for his HiFi-set, one for his TV, and one each for VCR and DVD. Now the DVD-player and the VHS-VCR or in one housing and have just one remote.
Just this morning I sold his old DVD-player to a coworker, because this one can be switched to different regional settings, thus allowing him to play American DVDs as well.

Anybody else watch Idol last night? Were you surprised that "Scooter Girl" got eliminated? I was at first because she has a really great voice, but then I decided that she was a little too weird to fit the Idol image (whatever that is) and kind of strange looking, too. Or maybe it was because of her background (eating disorder, etc.). I still think she should have gotten into the final group and then they could leave it up to the audience to decide what they thought of her. I felt really bad for her -- was sure she would make it. And am I the only one who thinks the red-headed crooner is not really that great? He did make the final cut.

I only saw mostly the end of the show due to being at a high school hockey game. I had a hard time picking out who was left. I have missed feelings about the 16 yr old red head.

I'm suppose to go to a hockey meeting tonight. I really do need to get rid of my hockey ties as it is interfering with my reality TV watching. However, it is to start snowing this evening so may just not go to the meeting. I forgot that Apprentice is on Thursdays now.

Fionna--- From the primary elections, the delegates go to conventions to cast their vote for the candidates. I do think that those candidates who had some percentage of the vote in that state, their delegate can still cast votes for them at the convention. Usually, what happens is they just vote with the majority. By the time we have the Democratic and Rebuplican National Convention, you already know who the winner will be. You are really challenging my American History knowledge.

Yes, Nancy, I believe you're right about how the wildcard works....Scootergirl will not be back. I also like the opera guy, but I'm not sure if he made it. The camera was far away and I kept looking for his hat, but couldn't spot it. I thought his fellow trio-mate, George, was also very good, but apparently Randy and Simon thought he was too old and he got the boot. There were alot of people who made the cut, that I felt did not deserve to be there.....like those twin guys from NY and the girls who forgot their lines. I'm also unclear about the rude girl....whatever happened to her? At the moment, my favorite is that tall girl with the bright red hair who sounds just like Celine Dion. That red-headed boy had a great voice, but it's one thing to sing in the shower and another to perform in front of thousands.....if you can't stand up to the pressure you obviously don't have what it takes to be a pop star.
This is actually my first time watching AI.....I kinda jumped on the bandwagon midway into the season last year when all the hype about our hometown boy was too much to ignore. As it turns out, Clay lives less than 10 minutes from me (2 min. autobahn) and many of his colleagues at the YMCA are instructors for classes I routinely attend. So although I don't personally know him, I know many people that do. I have met his mom and she's a sweetie. Those last weeks were so much fun last year....lots of people had their cars and storefronts decorated with shaving cream messages saying "vote for Clay" and there were all sorts of Clay banners hanging on the front porches of homes. Coming from NYC, where nearly every other person is some sort of a celebrity, I found it all very charming and got totally caught up in the excitement.
Survivor tonight! This season is going to be the best ever! Ethan is my boy!

Looking for good tv tonight -- survivor and the apprentice. yeah!!!

Actually watched AI last night -- haven't really watched it before this season. I thought that scooter girl would have lasted longer but then they did sorta say that she was boring. I didn't think that the 2 brothers did that well but I guess we don't see everything so it would be hard to tell. Since I haven't watched it before have no idea how the wild card thing works.

Waiting for the weekend. It's been a week of everything that could go wrong at work is and it's supposed to snow and freezing rain tomorrow.

So wish the cruise was next week but oh well spring is around the corner -- a long corner granted but it will come.

Take care everyone.

Welcome Jill and Tim!!! Viking does a list of everyone's info so if you send him the info he'll add you to our list and you'll get the email updates. He'll need your real names, ages, occupations, kids, cabin number, dining info and where you're staying the night before -- some of us are staying at the Radisson and some at the new Ron Jon resort.

It's going to be a great cruise.

I know that your electoral system dates back to the revolution and is part of your history and tradition, but aren't there any ambitions to update it?
For us Europeans it seems kind of awkward and very time-consuming, not to speak of all the money. Especially after all the trouble with the Florida votes last time, I then read about some initiatives in the USA to adapt the system to the modern times, but right now all this seems to be forgotten
Over here you need a 2/3-majority to make major changes or you let the people vote: i.e slmultaneously with the last state-election in my homestate a majority of the people voted for an extension of the gouvernor's time in office from four to five years. This was intended to save money and to give the administration more time to work efficiently.

WELCOME TO TWO-FOXES

Here is a link to a cute article by Dave Barry on cruising:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/columnists/dave_barry/7841543.htm

Rude girl update--- My sources at work tell me she was booted off the show last night. But Pool Girl made it through.
The community board has an AI thread and tried to read some of it. I'm starting to get everyone mixed up. Now that we have the 32 finalist, I should be ok. Also, over on the Community Board someone said they did bring back a Wild Card that was not one of the 32 last year. So maybe Scooter Girl will return. Of course, each year the rules keep changing so stay tuned.

Heading home soon. I am not going to the hockey meeting so can get my fill of Reality TV.

Eric--- I have to admire your Grandfather adapting to all the new equipment. I still can't record on the VCR. And had a terribel time figuring out how to make the DVD play.

Have a great evening everyone.

I have some fun news. We are taking my DD best friend (and her Mom) to Disney with us. Pam (the mom) and I were talking about it. We had tried over the last few years to do some kind of trip together, but things just never worked out. Pam is a single mom, who works full time and goes to school full time. So there is never enough time or money...... Anyway, next weekend is a go. But we are not telling the girls. We will pick them up from school next Thursday, with the van packed and ready to roll for Orlando. Can't wait to see thier faces!:p

Eric -- Yes, you would think that we would update our method of electing our chief executive. I believe the electoral college was established "way back when" because the candidates and the "common" people had very little, if any, chance to communicate with other. The members of the electoral college would, however, (theoretically, at least) be able to learn what the candidates stood for and would wisely cast their votes for all the people. Well, now that we know that a candidate for president can get a majority of the votes and still lose, it doesn't sound like such a great idea any more to many people, including me. I personally don't want someone else to decide where my vote should go!!!

Busy day today! I took Regina to get contact lenses!!!She has been asking for them for several months now, and we finally saw the eye doc on Monday. She set Regina up for an appt. tonight to see if she could put the lenses in and out 2 times. Now she has to wear them (starting @ 4 hours a day, builing to 12 hours a day) until next week. If she dose well, she gets a prescription for contacts.

Survivor was great. I was also sorry to see Rudy go. But his comments at the end (to "those who voted for me, watch out, I KNOW people") seemed a little odd to me.

Hi Jill & Tim,
I must have overlooked it and just realized it after reading Twinave's post: You're from Colorado!! I spent three weeks there last year as my company is based there, in Englewood/Denver. I toured your wonderful state on the two weekends I spent there, seeing Rocky Mountains National Park, rode the Cograilway up to Pikes Peak and saw a lot of Denver. Originally we planned to spend our summer vacation '04 in Colorado and the West, but then I "unfortunately" :teeth: won a free cruise and had to go Florida again - but it's still on our list for next year.

PS: We are Idol fans too, but German Idol ;)

Eric -- You just might be right about us being bad enough to blend in with our new tablemates. I'm not telling what (if any) rumors we have heard so far, however.

Jill and Tim -- Welcome!!! From your signature, you are doing VWL and then back-to-back DCL cruises. Wow, what a wonderful vacation -- truly magical!

Ave' - What a great surprise for your DD and her best friend. I wish I could be there to see the expressions on their faces.

Mary -- I envy you and your upcoming trip to HH DVC. We have to wait until July. We really need to go to HH more often because we absolutely love it, but we're always concerned about the weather other than the summer season. We went to HH in May the first year that the resort was open and they had a Nor'easter that blew down from somewhere. We froze the whole week that we were there. Did end up buying points there after we got home and thought about how much we liked it, in spite of the unseasonable weather.

Have a great weekend, everyone. We are still waiting for some decent weather here. Cold rain today -- supposed to go up to 62, but the weathermen have been wrong all week (as usual).

this will be our last "big trip" before we buckle down and try the whole kid thing! We figure if we are lucky, we won't be able to do WDW or DCL for a few years, so we want to get a full fix! Thank goodness that you can rent DVC points....it is saving us a bundle on our WDW portion....my DH is being very specific about where we stay at WDW and DCL, as he is paranoid that it will be our last chance to stay in a deluxe or veranda room before "hopefully" kids and the money goes!!

I was sad to see Rudy go because I really liked him. Maybe they'll do what they did last time and some that were voted off can come back? I liked that Rupert didn't vote for Rudy though -- thought that was class.

Ethan did look hot last night. I wish they would have voted off Jenna. Richard Hatch is just plain funny esp. with the comment that Colby made.

I wonder what the challenges will be now that one tribe only has 4 members. A merge would be interesting.

Watched the Apprentice too and felt that Christy should have been fired. She cried way too much although I don't really like Heidi at all. She's too loud. Thought it was great that they got to go to Yankee Stadium though.

Back to work -- weather is awful -- more snow and rain. The temperature isn't too bad but if it goes down more all the wet stuff will freeze. Saw a car turn 360 this morning on my way to work -- driving much too fast for the weather.

two-foxes -- I agree with your philosophy entirely. Have a simply super vacation with everything you want while you can do it! If, and when, the little ones come along you may have to give up a few things, but you will always have memories of your dream vacation. And --- when you get to the grandma and grandpa stage (as we are), you can go back to treating yourselves again.

padisneyfan
02-06-2004, 03:03 PM
I also was sad to see Rudy go. However, he just did seem to have the stamina that he had the last time. Ethan did look hot, but also think Colby is also. Richard wasn't as obnixous this week. But could he just keep clothes on. Now if it was Ethan or Colby running around naked, that would be a different story.
The challenges were really hard this week, especially the reward challenge when everyone hasn't had food or water for days.

On the Apprentice--- Heidi has got to go. She is just so loud and rude. Kristi was the project manager and the buck stops there. I think Nick's team is better and will do better in the long run.

No reality TV tonight. I do like Monk which is on at 10pm.

Will float home today, started off with snow, then freezing rain, and then massive amounts of rain. With all the snow melting, drains clogged, the streets are now rivers.

Two-Foxes--- We were married 13 years before our children were born, so did alot of travel. Had the children, still travled but just differently. Now both are in college and we are free to travel without children. However, May we are doing a family cruise.
Enjoy your WDW trip and back to back cruises.

Good morning everyone too. Well, I'm happy to say that me and Haley got 11 1/2 hours of much needed sleep! I was so exhausted last week that I could barely keep my eyes open last night. Lenny took Haley and sent me to bed. I passed out immediately and didn't get up until 10:00 am when Haley princess: called "momma" from her room.

The weird thing is I have no idea why I was so tired. I didn't do anything "extra". I was so tired that my eyes burned to keep them open. Oh well, I feel MUCH better now. I guess I better since I got so much sleep. :teeth:

I thought someone was going to look into that too???? If I remember correctly, when we made our ressie, we asked about that since so many of us were rebooking. I think the reservation person said we would get a better deal by keeping the booking on the ship instead of doing a group thing. Maybe if she gets commission for doing bookings, she would lose so that's why she said that??? She said we would lose our $200.00 ship credit too.

If anyone wants, I can call DCL to check on this. I just need to know how many ressies we would "group" together. I just thought of something else. Can they only be grouped if they are made through DCL? What about ones that are through DU or other travel agencies?

I just called Group Sales at DCL, and this is what I found out:

1. We must have a minimum number of 8 staterooms

2. We must have a minimum number of 16 full paying adults

3. We would definitely lose the shipboard credit we received when we booked onboard.

Since Group Sales is closed weekends, I have to call back Monday if we want more info on this. Their number is 800-511-6333 in case anyone else wants it.

So should we look more into this? The person I just talked to said most likely we did better by booking onboard than we will if we group the ressies.

Any thoughts from anyone else? We can still call and see if we can get more info though, but we probably need to provide them with more details of our current ressies.

Eric, thanks for the list. But Mark "crashed" our computer last week, so I lost my Words Program. I just hate when he does that.
jeanneg, Rellingtwin and my family are already linked. We have a total of 8 in our group. On our first cruise we invited a couple to eat with us. And while we had a wonderful time, I think asking anyone to eat with our 4 kids everynight was a bit much. Last cruise we sat near a bunch of people from our group, and that was great. We had the ALP rotation, late seating. This year we have early seating, but we are thinking about changing to late seating. Now that our kids are a little older, we may want to link up with some fellow cruisers. What do you think Mary?

If anyone wants to check out Grills website the link is:
www.visitgrills.com

Ave, I think it would be GREAT to be seated near other Cruisetoberfesters, BUT...since we already have 8 at our table I would hesitate to add additional diners. The year we had 10 at our table, we always seemed to be the last people served, and while I don't mind a slow paced dinner, it was hard on the kids to wait so long. Also I am still thinking about doing the early dinning. Last year I was SO tired by the time dinner was over, all I wanted to do was go to bed. I'd like to try to stay up past 10pm this year! ::yes:: Since we have "main" dinning reserved, we can always change to late.

Eric, thanks for the list! We have a ways to go to get the number of cruisers we have had for past cruisers. If there are any "lurkers" out there, stop lurking and say hello!

DH is SO excited about the NASCAR racing season starting!!:hyper:

The kids have a friend spending the night tonight, so I have to get everyone fed. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, milk gravy, collard greens, and biscuits. A REAL "Southern" dinner for this Yankee girl!:teeth:

We just checked out the menue and spontaneously decided to have dinner there - YumYum.
They have a coupon giving a 10%-discount if you present a out-of-driver's license or a hotel key.
But more important: They got a Tiki-Bar :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
So count us in, Bette and we would appreciate a lift to the bar as we will drop off our car in Orlando and take a limo to the Radisson - or a van, if we find someone to share it with. We're already in contact with Peter & Jen about that. If anyone else wants to join us we plan on leaving from MCO around 3pm.

We just did our taxes....and WOO HOO!!!!
We are getting enough of a refund that our cruise is paid for plus some! Anything we save over the next 9 months is SPA MONEY!!!

Only 34 weeks to go!!!!1/3 of the way there!:bounce:

Congrats Susan! In past years I also was able to pre-pay some of our excustions and our room at the Radisson ahead of time. It's much easier for us to spread the cost of the cruise and the additional expenses over 8-12 months then to pay for it all at once. My goal this year is to have everything paid for and $800-1000 prepaid on our ship board account.

Hi Guys, this is Kim here...

The food at Grills was very tasty. The portions I felt were quite large and the prices fairly low. The place does get packed starting around 4 pm, since it is the best viewing spot for the ships and a Friday night... I would be glad to check with Grills when the time gets closer and we have an idea how many are going to go, and perhaps we can reserve a space if you have a LARGE crowd for dinner/drinks.
I used the 10% discount last year and they did not even question if I was an out of towner. If you are into " blackened" food the chicken alfredo was very good and spicy.

Ave, I thought you were going to WDW this weekend ?

I like Ave's idea and will call Disney to put money down on our account so that I have no "surprise" bill at the end of the trip. We need to get our hotel reserved for Friday PM still, Hopefully I remember tomorrow, my goal is to be at the port by early afternoon and RELAX...

Well, it is time to go put the sheets on the bed and finish puttering...

Goodnight, Kim

Kim, We are going to Disney this Thursday. (2/12) Our Anniversary is 2/15. 15 years!
I have been in a panic the last few hours. My friend Pam, and her daughter Heather are now coming with us. Big surprise for the girls. Well, I went to book the room tonight(for Pam) and was told that the resort was booked. PANIC!!!!!! The Disney person told me there were NO rooms anywhere in the resort. Any Resort. Well then I went to the internet. What do you know, found a room. Called Disney back, got the room for Pam, but at regular rate, not FL discount rate. I can live with that.
Trying to do all this without letting DD know what's going on. :bitelip: :headache:

We're also considering a short trip to Disney in spring or summer: Disneyland Paris is offering a night in a value resort plus admission for two days for €99 per person right now. They have major problems to fill the parks and the hotels and are trying nearly everything to lure guests into them.
As Disneyland Paris is only about 360 miles from Frankfurt we would drive there on a Sunday afternoon check into a motel near the parks, spend the night there, pop in at the Disney hotel a 8:30am, retrieve our passes and get into the Disneyland Park ASAP, check in at the hotel in the afternoon, see Buffalo Bill's Dinnershow in the evening, and next day it's the Walt Disney Studios and back to Frankfurt. The drive takes about 5 hours for each leg, because the Froggies have a speed limit of 80 miles on their Autobahn and additionally you have to stop 4 or 5 times to pay toll. We just have to somehow save up another 2 days of vacation as we already reserved our regular 31 days for London in March, the Baltic Sea in June and the 4 weeks in the States, but that should be manageable.
This would also mean that we could get pins or other souvenirs from Disneyland Paris to bring for the cruise.

Have fun at The World, Ave and try to make a picture of Mary when you tell her the surprise ;)
BTW, in Germany 15 years qualify you for parole :jester:

I just booked our room at the Radisson and got a GREAT RATE! I booked via their website and got $115. per night for the KING SUITE!This is the best rate I have ever gotten at the Radisson. You must pre-pay, and the cancellation policy is pretty stiff, but I was going to pre-pay anyway, and I do NOT plan on cancelling:D .
I love having a small kitchen when we travel. I makes it so much easier to have snacks, sandwiches ect for the kids(not to mention beverages for the grown ups!)

The "Standard Room" rate with the internet rate is $85.It also requires pre-payment.

Thanks for the list Eric. Count us in on the Grill. Menu looks good.

Slept most of yesterday -- it was great and I obviously needed the sleep although like you Renee can't really say why. I hadn't stayed up late or anything.

Did not watch the Grammy's except when I was flipping channels I did catch the problems Celine Dion had with the microphones.

Back to work this morning -- ugh. Work dinner tonight -- great restaurant with wonderful food but don't ask me the name, haven't a clue. We take our biggest client out for Christmas -- yeah I know it's February but this is the earliest it's been. The first year I was here the dinner was finally arranged for June. That was the worst I think -- me and 11 men with 2 of them getting rather drunk and oogling all the women in the restaurant. It's gotten better and this year another female will be there too and besides which the food is fantastic. You just have to place yourself right in terms of seating -- sitting next to the accountant is not good. :p

I just have to remember to clean out my car at lunchtime since I will probably be driving one of the other lawyers to the dinner. My car has the lived in look at the moment. :bounce:

Must get some work done.

Talking about Schnaps and some infos for teh newbies:
It also has become kind of a tradition to bring something for the Sail-Away-Party. We brought little Schnaps-bottles containing about a shot each. Last time we brought Apple-Schnaps and Plum-Schnaps. The Ohio-connection brought Buckeyes, then we had luminescent hoops brought by Bette & Kim, soap-bubble-dispensers by the Twins, the Tennesseeans had yummy cookies, etc.
This is not mandatory!!! Not everybody brought something, but nearly everybody got something
BTW, we will meet on Deck 10 above the Goofy-Pool on the starboard side of the ship after the lifeboat drill. This and the group-photo which will be taken during one of the sea-days will be the only 'official' events of our group.
Please don't think that you have become a member of group which requires you to spend your time with. This is a definite NO. This group shall facilitate finding friends and you will usually meet a lot of your fellow DISer everywhere on the ship. If anybody intends to form firmer bonds of friendship -like we did- , go ahead. There is no obligation whatsoever -, Hey, we're on vacation ;)
Later this year you will get the Logo from our Artists & Designers, which you can then take to a shop and have it printed on a shirt of your choice or you can print it and iron it on yourself. Last time we had about a 100 people on the ship wearing those shirts - Sometimes it seemed to be more common than the crew's uniform :teeth:

But the keywords for everything in our group are: Voluntary, Friendship, Fun & Vacation ::yes::  or simpler:

Hi Mary, Well I join in the brain fart category. I totally forgot that last year we arrived in Orlando on Thursday, since we went that night and saw the ships leave. However Grills is still a great restaurant and if people still want to go there Friday night for a party then that would be fun. Perhaps Shirley can tell us if any ships leave on Friday?

"It also has become kind of a tradition to bring something for the Sail-Away-Party"
Mom and I are bringing the lanyards for this cruise, and of course Glo-Sticks for the nightime deck parties. We will pass the lanyards out to whom-ever we see prior to Saturday and then the rest at the terminal or sail-away deck party.

Time to go get the dogs in the car, off the the groomers for a bath...It is so fun getting a 180 lb dog in the car, he loved my station wagon but hates the SUV so he needs to be manhandled to get in. Then me off to work.

Kim, I seem to remember there being a ship in port when we crossed the bridge on the way to the Raddison last year (on Friday). If I am correct then, at least one ship sailed that day. I will do a little research and see if I can find out.

I'm still up for the Grills but after last night am definitely going to pace myself better. We always go to the same restaurant for the Christmas dinner and boy is it good but last night I think I ate way too much so I ended up feeling ill. It's an Italian restaurant so we had salad bruscetta, calamari, shrimp, eggplant, mushrooms, tomatoes with cheese and that was just the appetizer. Dinner was veal with pasta and more veggies and then dessert, fruit with tiramusi(prob. not spelled right). Of course there was wine with everything too although I only drank one glass since I was driving. I have no idea how much this restaurant costs though as we never see the menu. One of the lawyers knows the manager and does all the ordering. It was actually quite a nice evening for a business thing. Didn't get home til shortly after 11 though so will be tired today.

It's a week of business functions though as Thursday afternoon we have to meet with other clients but that's a wine and cheese thing at the restaurant downstairs from the office so it won't be late.

Course maybe I should practice staying up later because this cruise I want to see Andy doing karoake.

Jim goes to the doctor yet again this afternoon so we'll see if this time they can identify what's wrong.

Must go get the dog back in -- and then get DS up. Another day begins before it's light out.

Arlene ... we get a NY channel on our cable and I watched the news about the WDW food. Basically they were talking about some of the restaurants having documented times when their food was kept at temps below food inspection standards. They also had a Rep from WDW explain how many meals are served a day, how many times they met the standards on inspection, etc, etc. I think it is to be continued today. Not sure, maybe you can ck out CBS NEWS.COM to see if there is anything there on it.

I know we had a blast at the Sail-away party on Deck 10. We met so many people there. All we had to do was look for t-shirts with our logo. We got a lot of wonderful things and met a lot of wonderful people on that cruise.

Eric - funny that you mention how many of us wore the shirts, because one day someone told me how much he liked it and wanted to know where he could buy one. Seems him and his wife couldn't find one in either of the gift shops! I explained about these boards and you should've seen the look on their faces. They just couldn't understand how a group of people who didn't know each other got together from the internet to meet on the cruise.

I'm thinking of making magnets for our stateroom doors this time. Maybe I'll make the lime green Mickey Heads with our screen names on them. Kinda like the pins from last year. Or I could use the Cruisetoberfest logo like someone did last year. Not sure which one yet.

I still have the magnet from last year that Kim & Bette made that I'm bringing too.:teeth:

I'm trying to think of something that is unique to NC. As a newbie to this group, let me try to get this straight. Are you bringing enough of whatever you are bringing for 100 people?

cdnmickeylover
02-10-2004, 11:57 AM
Don't feel obligated to bring something. Often whatever is brought is for everyone, or one per couple/family. It obviously depends what it is. Some people brought candies last year and there were enough for everyone. Other people brought other things that were one per couple/family which is fine too.

Jim's working on ours but it's a surprise.

The t-shirts were great though -- got lots of comments from the CM's and it was esp great at the terminal to identify everyone since we'd never met some people before but knew they were with us by the t-shirts -- very easy to do too. At the checkin counter we knew that Eric and Anja had already checked in because the CM said that people wearing the t-shirt had already been there. It was neat.

Wore the pin that Renee made later on to the MNSSHP and people commented on it. They had been on the cruise and saw the t-shirts and pins and thought it was a family reunion. They were stunned that it was all from an internet site.

Not to worry ... We're (PaPa and I) are working on the T-shirt design for this year and I will again do the name tags that work on the laynards most of us wear. Gotta admit I'm terrible with name and they reallllllllllllllllllllllllllly help me out. Not to mention the DCL castmembers get a kick out of them too and use them to address you by name and next thing you know you are into a conversation.

Any little trinket that is brought is not mandatory, just adds to the fun of "Making Magical Memories!" Have my thinking cap on for this years give-a-way.

Yup,

so everybody please send photos, but DO NOT send them to the regular cruise-account as this won't hold large files. Please send them to cruisetoberfest2@aol.com which is large enough to 'digest' the pics. The pics should not exceed a size 300x300, I'd prefer to get the pics in JPEG format. If you do not know how to shrink your pics, just send them and I will do everything for you. I'll build the page during the Easter-holidays to give you time to send your pics.

Hi there! I see I have a LOT of reading to do, but thought I'd join in. We booked while on the 4 day Wonder last October 5th (our first cruise). We loved it so much, that we're trying our first 7 day trip. It's me, my DH37, my DS13, DD10, and DD6. We stayed in a Cat. 4 last time, but we're trying 2 Cat. 11's this time for the extra space, less money, and onboard credit. Can't wait!

Welcome Laura and family!!! Glad you could join us. We are in a category 11 and expect no problems. More money to spend on other things is more important to us than having a window -- besides I'm afraid if we got a window or verandah that we'd never go back.

Viking has a list and if you email him your info he'll send you a copy of the list that gives you some information about all of us.

Can't wait til October esp as I drove to work through snow flurries today.

Back to work.

welcome laura...

andy an i are in a cat 10 which is fine for us.the only reason we like this category is because of the split bath. otherwise the cat 11 would have been good enough. i also feel that if we went to a window or better we would never go any other way..besides who spends that much time in their room.... except for jim and his daily nap right fiona...

He's a cranky man when he misses his nap!! You are so right Arlene. We are going to stay up this year though and watch Andy!!!

Laura -- the email addy is antiguaorbust@yahoo.com The information that's on the list is your real name, location, occupation, ages, stateroom number, special ocassion if any, and where you'll be the night before the cruise. Some of us are staying at the Radisson the night before the cruise and others are staying at Ron Jon's Caribe resort. Some of us are also planning a dinner out at The Grills the night before the cruise.

Although there are activities that will be planned you don't have to participate in any or all of them although we'd certainly like you too!!

Please don't be intimidated by the size of the thread or that some of us know each other. We didn't know anyone before we sailed with them last year and I can vouch for the fact that they are a very friendly group and we had a great time -- really added to our cruise.

Pre-booking Palos for other cabins?

I also watched Ghost Ship last week, actually I watched it twice, :scared: the first time I had to turn it off after the swimming pool scene, the next time I saw it I saw it to the end, howver I am with Anja, if we see anyone boarding with heavy wooden boxes we throw them overboard quick...

Have not seen Ghost Ship and probably won't as I have a tough time with horrors. Usually end up with bad dreams afterwards.

Kim -- went and looked at the thread about Palo. Interesting how everything seems to get reported wrong. The really funny part of it is that WE didn't end up happy about the entire reservation process and so won't be returning at all. (or at least Jim and I won't) I'd rather play bingo!!

Hi Laura,
I got your mail and will do an update ASAP - Probably Friday night and will then send you -and everybody- The List as a Word-document. I already suspected that another nurse found our group due to LauraRN . Nurse is the most common profession among our group. My wife's also one, working at the orthopedic ward in Frankfurt's (Hope this answers your question ;) ) second-largest hospital. Do you speak our language? I know that many Americans lived a very secluded life in Germany with no need to learn the language, but there are also a lot of exceptions. BTW, we live in a former American housing area right in the heart of Frankfurt.

OK, gotta catch some Zs now, we have to get up at 5am as Anja has to work the early shift starting at 630am.

PS: I'll send you the last edition of the List right now as you seem to be very eager to know more about the rest of the gang ::yes::
Looking forward to meet you in less than 8 months.

WELCOME LAURA AND FAMILY

Laura--- I am one of the other nurses in the group. Don't worry about reading all this thread you will get to know all of us. The list does help to keep everyone straight. However, I still have problems at time with the two NC girls (jeanniec and jeanneg) keeping them straight. Just hop in any time and post as much as you want.

Which reminds me.......there was a funny article in today's newspaper which said we should amend our state slogan "First in Flight" to include "Second in Everything Else" e.g. Carolina Panthers, Clay Aiken, John Edwards, etc. Oh well, I thought it was cute.........

I thought that was so cute. However, Clay will always be my #1.

Twins---- Have a wonderful time on your mini vacations. Wish I was going with you.

MaryJo--- Thanks for the newspaper article.

Cathy--- Loved the valentine. Thanks so much our resident craftperson.

Watched American Idol last night and will be seeing the result show tonight. Tough decision on who will be staying. There was alot of talent in that group. Wonder if all the groups will be that good. I didn't vote, I don't have a favorite yet. So probably won't be voting till we get to the final 12 or maybe for the wild card. And yes Scooter Girl can come back as a Wild Card.

Been busy week at work so far.

Laura -- I didn't even the notice the RN at the end of your name. I am also one of the other nurses. I work at Presbyterian in Charlotte. Don't do patient care any more, tho. I fight insurance companies all day long trying to get them to pay. Are you working currently?

Nancy -- I was surprised at how talented last night's group on Idol was, and I, too, am wondering if the rest of the groups will be that good. And --- are you sure that Scooter Girl can come back as a wild card? There was some dissenting discussion about that a while ago. I would like to see her have a chance at the big prize.

Viking- I almost missed your reply. Yes, I speak some of the language although its been awhile. Luckily, We didn't hibernate on post while we were there. We lived with a German family on their second floor apartment about 10 miles from post. The husband spoke some English and the wife, none. We were very close with them and Opi and Oma and still keep in touch. We used every opportunity to travel and learn the language and customs. I still feel confident today that I can rent a car and get(and understand) directions, and rent a room at a guesthouse and order a meal. It brings back wonderful memories. In fact, our son has duel citizenship since he was born in a German hospital. (during Gulf War I-families had to use the German facilities, so they could keep the beds open at Nurnberg hospital for the soldiers in Iraq). We also have family in the Sulz region...my grandparents were born in Germany. So, my mom's aunt and cousins still live there and we keep in touch with them also. I hope someday to visit over there again.

Laura

Ja, ja, ich auch verstehe!!!!!!! OMG, I'm so proud of myself......I could actually understand what you guys were writing. I only had one semester of German in college and I thought it was long dead, but I guess not. I can't speak it to save my life, but I do remember all the curse words very well!

Welcome, Laura, my fellow North Carolinian!

Wow, I've been busy the past few days and had about 3 pages to catch up on!

About American Idol.....apparently anyone from any of the auditions can return. At least that was what I understood Simon to say on Tuesday night. And I agree with the comment someone else made......the level of talent seemed to be very high, which was not what we saw during the previous elimination rounds. In fact, I thought each and every one of them did a really superb job.
Now I'm curious about last year's show......I came in towards the middle of the season and I knew that Clay was a wildcard, but was he in the final 32 or picked from an earlier audition? Anybody know?

Eric: about the photo.......I don't have scanning capabilities so I'll need to snail-mail one to you. Please send me your home address via pm or personal email. Thanks!

Survivor tonight!!!!!!!! I need an Ethan-fix!!!!!! (I'm just so happy my hubby doesn't read these posts!) Looks like it's going to be a good one. Gotta go......I have an appointment with the dental hygienist, which I am completely dreading (sorry, Jen)

I do know the answer to your question about Clay. Clay was one of the orginal 32 contestants. They they recalled people for the Wild Card round. Each judge got to pick a Wild Card person to advance and then the 4th Wild Card pick was the people choice which was Clay.

Last winter I was totally addicted to American Idol. I had to miss the final result show as we were flying to WDW that night. However, as soon as I got off the plane I checked my voice mail on the cell phone as my friend phoned me the results. I am really trying not to become so obsessed this year.

As for survivor, I am going to try to tape it as I have the hockey meeting tonight. Hope it works.

To keep up with the German conversation, I put it into the free translation that I use at work to get it converted into English. It's not perfect, but get the jest of what is being talked about. I usually use it to translate instructions from English into Spanish to give to my patients.

Back to work.

Laura,

I'm very proud of you. I've got some friends over here from the US and Australia who have been here much, much longer than you and don't know enough German to order a beer or ask for directions :( Especially here in Frankfurt you find so many people able to speak English that sticking to your native tongue is much more comfortable than learning German - But I admit that German is very hard to learn, especially the grammatics.
If you want I can bring you some DVDs in German. I'll burn them so that they will run on an American DVD-player set to region 1 - As a gift of course!! But let's not talk too publicly about it ;) I'll mail you a list of available movies or you tell me your preferences.

Both my sons played ice hockey. However, both are now in college only DS#2 continues to play. Hockey has been a main focus in our lives for 15 years. Both my husband and I are still involved. He coaches one of the HS teams and I am the 4th VP of the HS league. However, we are slowly weaning our way out. DH is in his last year of coaching. I have one more year to serve in my term, but am seriously considering resigning in May. I have taken on being the Chairperson for my professional organization(WOCN) regional conference that will be in the fall of 2005. I just don't think I want to be committed to 2 things. As for ice rinks in NC, they are spread out. However, we have been to tournaments in the Raleigh and Winston-Salem area. Most of the travel teams in NC have to travel very far to play ice hockey games. My sons never got into playing roller hockey that much. Both have roller blades and do pick up games.

It is tragic what happened to the WDW castmember. Guess it was a freak accident.

Work day finished so I'm heading on home. Have to make a couple of stops. Need to get a tape for the VCR.

When I go to a game I spend more time watching the people than the game.

The update has to wait til Saturday - Sorry for the delay, but I have to go to the Marriot Hotel in Frankfurt tomorrow where the Captains Meeting of this years JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge will take place. My company has been participating in this race since its beginning in Germany. It's a 3.5-mile run across downtown Frankfurt in June with about 40,000-50,000 people competing. Anja and I will run for my company and I intend to break the 26-minute-mark this time. Tomorrow all the Captains get the necessary papers for their teams and afterwards there is a free buffet - YumYum

Laura, there are many docs and nurses who work at MUSC who then move away. I think it is because of the medical and nursing schools at MUSC. Many come to Charleston for school, then fall in love with Charleston and have to stay awhile!
Ask the former MUSC folks if they know Dr Soper, Dr Carter, or Dr Fylstra. I think they are the OB/Gyns who have been there the longest.

Piglet33 and Padisneyfan-My son's friend is a NJ Devils fan. It's fun to watch. All of his friends are fans of different teams (Redwings, Hurricanes, etc)and wear the team jerseys while they play hockey outside. For my son's birthday last week, I took all 7 of them to see the movie "Miracle". That was a great movie!

Jeanneg-Between the two of us, we could probably put enough German words together to sound pretty good.:p

Goodness its cold here today. We had an inch of slushy mesh this morning. This has been a long winter. How much longer til October????-(Guess I'd better get a countdown clock).

heres the survivor/apprentice info. whoever doesnt want to know the outcome dont read......

on survivor- jenna(the winner from 2 seasons ago) left because she had a feeling that her mom was very sick and needed her so she asked to leave the game. at the end of the show they showed that her mom died 8 days later. this happened when all the tribes went to the immunity challenge. jenna made the request/annnouncement there and then jeff asked various tribe members what they thought. some said they immediately understood while others said the understood but maybe jenna should not have even come to play the game.

on apprentice - jeannie was fired. i didnt see the full show(i have it on tape). amaroso went to the board room with heidi and jeannie and she was so mean to them. it looked like trump was going to fire her for being so rude but then turned around to jeannie and said that since she just took the abuse and was still being nice and defending amaroso that he was firing her. i guess jeannies theories backfired twice - last week getting kristie(?) fired and this week getting herself fired...

gotta go and finally do some work...

Re Survivor -- I can't believe that Jenna actually agreed to participate in this season of Survivor when her mother was so sick (which she obviously was since she died 8 days after Jenna left the island). Maybe the first million and the fame weren't enough for her. Never did like her and can't believe she won. And what was with her getting information that her mother was getting worse? Was that really her intuition? As Jeff said, "it sounds like you are getting updates on her condition" to which Jenna replied "they are my family". Was there some way she could possibly have gotten news from home? Very confusing (or maybe I am making it confusing). Sad to lose your mother at such an young age. And how about Richard biting the shark back. Too much. He was pretty cool last night. If he would only put some clothes on. Jeanneg -- I know you're delighted that Ethan is still around and so am I.

WELCOME to DisneyCruiseCazy89 (I'll call you DCC89 for short ;) )Glad to have you with us!
Laura, I'll ask around and see if I know anyone who knows Angel, or your docs. It is a small world, and the internet keeps making it smaller!

I've got to get the packing finished as we head to HH this morning. Since it is only a short 2 hour drive we don't have to leave too early, but we like to get there about 12 noon, so if the room is not ready the kids can have a swim. Yippee...I'm on vacation!

Survivor ... I really can't understand why Jenna came back to the game knowing her Mom was so close to leaving her. Especially since she alrady had the $ from her first game. I was wondering if somehow the Survivor Staff got the message and had her swear to secrecy not to let on she found out. Then there's RICHARD ... geez put some clothes on already. Thank God the shark didn't latch on somewhere else ... just how would they explain that to the TV audience! RUPERT, I love how you play, BUT digging a hole to make your "house" DUH it's on a beach in the sand. The winning house was actually awsome ... they must watch more "Trading Spaces" than the other teams (hehe).

Let me be the first to wish everyone

DCC89: Welcome to the party! Once you do the 7-day, you'll never want to do anything less!

GoofyNut: Oh, we think so much alike. I was so wishing that the shark would do a "bobbit" on him! I can't believe he actually bit the shark! I still can't stand him but it proves he has what he's always showing!

Not much Ethan on last night's show.....at least he's still around! Anybody else notice that Josh Groban looks like a younger version of him.......love 'em both!

Eric: I just thought of something......we do have an event to celebrate on the cruise: I just realized it will be the first vacation my husband and I will be making as "empty-nesters"!

Jeannec, congratulations pn post #1200:wave:

Jeanneg,
I'll put it on the List. But for the future: Please send all changes to our mail-account. This has two reasons: I won't forget it til the next update is due, and it is to much work to scan the thread for new info which has to be 'listed'. Thanks :D

So far no mail from DisneyCruiseCrazy89 :( But there's still more than 24 hours left.

OK, that's it for now. We just came home from the gym and have to leave for the Captains Meeting soon.
Tomorrow at 10am we have an appointment with our travelagent to book the flights for September/October and to make ressies for the car :cool1: We hope to get a good price for USAirways, because the have the best in-flight entertainment with indiviual screens and freely selectable starting times for all movies, which is a big advantage on an 9-10 hour-flight.

I too couldn't believe that Jenna even started the game since her Mom died 8 days after she got home. I was wondering if the other players found out during the game or not.

Thought Richard and the shark was funny. I also thought that Colby's remark about can you call a gay man a stud was funny too. It was an interesting survivor that's for sure.

Dozed off during The Apprentice so missed what Omarosa said but did hear Donald talking about it and was sure that Omarosa would be gone but really Jeannie (?) deserved to go. Donald's obviously looking for someone who can stand up for themselves and she just didn't -- she could have taken the hint from what happened to Kristi the week before when she didn't defend herself either.

Friday night is JAG night -- I keep wondering about the Admiral and Meredith and whether they are going to do anything or if I just missed it. Am also watching reruns of JAG on the Cnd history television which is great -- last night was the first time that Bud and Harriette met which was funny.

Back to work. Reading yet another agreement -- can someone say boring???

Thanks everyone for all the updates. They sound like they both were great episodes. Wonder because of the situation at home, that a deal was made prior to her returning for All Star Survivor that is the situation deteriorated at home she would be notified. At least she did get to spend time with her mom prior to her dying. So the 2 girls left in Protegy are the ones I don't like Omarosa and Heidi. It does look like Donald doesn't like women who get trampled over by others.

Anyone else realize that it is Friday the 13th. I didn't until someone said something about it at lunch time.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Folks,
edition #6 of The List is in your mailboxes. We have two additions: Laurarn and Videoman (Cruisetoberfest2-veteranpirate: ), but no mail from DisneyCruiseCrazy89 so far - Perhaps next weekend ::yes::

This morning we spent 2 hours with our travel agent (30 minutes booking and 90 minutes chatting:chat: ) and now we're completely set for Cruisetoberfest3 and the three weeks before it. We'll fly USAirways via Pittsburgh both ways using an Airbus 330 with fully individual entertainment-system. This is such a great way to fight the boredom of a 8 to 10 hour flight across the Pond, because you can start/stop/pause any of the up to eight movies they will show whenever you want. And flying via Pittsburgh is especially important to us as there are so many great shopping opportunities ion the AirMall.
The German travel companies already adjusted their prices to adapt to the low Dollar, which resulted in a 10%-reduction for our rental-car and the airfare was also OK.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day. I got flowers, dinner and a movie. We went to see Miracle. Even though you know the outcome of the movie, it still was very good. It is more about the Coach Herb Brooks and how he put together the team. Herb did help with the production of the fame, but was killed in a car accident last summer before he got to view the final product. Plus all the players had to be able to skate to play the part. So they aren't really actors. There was a huge write up in USA hockey magazine about the making of the movie. One of the players (I think it is Johnson) is actually played by his nephew. It is a Disney movie so may get to see it again while on the cruise.

Hope the weather is good for the Twins vacations.

Jenneg--- Our first 7 day cruise in Sept 2002 was our celebration of being empty nesters.

Eric--- It must be a good feeling to have all your vacation plans taken care of.

Congratulations to Sarah for making Honors.

Both sons came home for the weekend. DS#1 doesn't have to go back until Monday as they are off for President's Day. DS#2 leaves this afternoon. He has the girlfriend back here so had to come home to spend Valentine's Day with her.

Suppose to be cold the next couple of days. Just when I was getting used to the warm 40's.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

I just sent another update incorporating DisneyCruiseCrazy89's info - Check it out

Nancy,
we may have booked everything for our four weeks in the US/Caribbean, but now I have to work on the sightseeing schedule for our week in London in March/April.
I'm still trying to convince Anja to ride the London Eye with me. For those who don't know it: It's the world's largest Ferris Wheel, extending to a height of 135m/443'. The Cabins are fixed to the outer rim and are 90% glass. Thus they don't call it a ride, but a flight and as Anja isn't completely free of high anxiety she is not exactly willing to ride it ;) But it gives you a view of as far as 40km/25mls on clear days and should be great.
For the nurses: We'll go to the Florence-Nightingale-Museum on our first day. So if anyone of you needs something from there, just send us a mail.
Planning vacations is nearly as much fun as being on vacation

Thanks Eric for the list. I agree I think planning the vacation is part of the fun. I am still making preparations for our May cruise on NOS. I do have my airfares done and rental car post cruise. Still need to work out where we are staying the night before the cruise and how to get from Fort Lauderdale to the Miami pier. From my understanding it is about the same distance as from MCO to Port Carnival. We are also looking at a possible long weekend in Williamsburg end of April.

Nancy,
we will enter the USA in your wonderful state as we're flying via Pittsburgh. This is apart from Denver the only non-floridian city in teh States we know. In the turmoil after 9-11-01 we were kind of stranded in Pittsburgh on our return-flight to Germany. We had a 9-hour-layover there on 10-13-01.
After some consultations with a very friendly lady from of the Tourist Info we took a shuttlebus downtown. It was a wonderful day with temps in the upper 70ies and the foliage was simply beautiful. We saw an Afro-American-Heritage-Parade, did some shopping, had some yummy bagels and went to that triangular park where the Allegheny and the Monongahela merge (Point State Park, if I remember it correctly) and had some icecream.
And at the airport I managed to buy a cute Pooh-Bear wearing a funny hat and carrying a 'Happy BD'-ballon - without Anja seeing it. Her BD is 10/14 and when she was in the plane, lavatory I gave it to a flight attendant, who then gave it to Anja the next morning with her breakfast.

Where will your May cruise go? Miami/Ft Lauderdale sounds great, I've been there in '88 for a week. Anja has never been to the AtlanticCoast apart from the Port, the Kennedy Space Center and a day trip to Daytona in '97. But this year we will spend 4 days in Charleston, visiting RellingTwin & family, and 6 days in St. Augustine. What I liked most in '88 at the beach, was the surf. There is usually no surf at the Gulf, where we usually go.

OK,
gotta sleep now, it's nearly 11pm over here :wave2:

Padisneyfan .... info on the NOS Cruise like what does Nos stand for
a couple of weeks ago we saw $wonder cruises for $350.00
for a 3 day one and recently we saw them advertised for
$399.00 so i got in touch with Sueellen from dreams and the first date we can the 399 rate is september.......

So lets just say we r looking to do a Cruise between now
and the end of May...... and i dont think it is going to be disney

we asked about moving our October date since we booked it on board so we could get the discount and onboard credit...
still does not help because then when we rebook the October date... the price comes out way higher....not woth all the switching around....... so It loks like we might try RCCL.....

i dont know still all up in the air......maybe we wll just go to disney ... Maybe DC any more on that ???

padisneyfan

NOS is RCCL Navigator of the Sea. It is one of the big Voyager Class ships (rock climbing, inline skating, ice rink, mini golf). We tried to get the Mariner of the Sea out of Port Canaveral but even though we tried to get it before Thanksgiving the only rooms available were suites at that time for the date we wanted in May. NOS and MOS are sister ships and do the same iternary only NOS leaves from Miami. This is a family cruise, so we were able to get connecting inside promenade rooms (they are inside rooms with a window that look out on the promenade deck were the parades and stores are). My 21 and 20 year old sons liked the idea of their own cabin. Since we booked in November the price has gone up. RCCL Voyager class ships are very popular. It will be interesting to see how Disney and RCCL Mariner of the Sea compete against each other at Port Canaveral. It would have been nearly $2000 more to have the 4 of us get the same accomandations on the Magic. We are doing their Western Caribbean (labadee, jamacia, caymen and cozumel) So doing 2 different ports. There should be enough activities to keep the young adults entertained.

Peter-- I get all these cruise emails that have some great prices like icruise.com and vacationstogo.com. There are some really good prices for 3 and 4 day cruise between now and May.

Now the only problem that we have right now is that DS#2 continues to have car problems despite numerous attempts to fix his car. It broke down again on his trip back to school last night. He doesn't have enough money to buy a new used car. So we may have to dip into the cruise fund to get the car. If that happens I'm not sure if we will still go on the family cruise. I hate to cancel since it will probably be our last family cruise. Well, I have a couple of weeks until final payment so have time to decide.

Eric--- I'm impressed that you were able to get into downtown Pittsburgh and back to finally catch your flight. I can get into Pittsuburgh, I just always have trouble getting back out of the city. There are just to many tunnels and bridges for me. It is not one of my favorite cities because of that.

Well, I must get to work.

Nancy::MinnieMo

Viking
02-16-2004, 12:40 PM
Nancy,
getting into Pittsburgh and out again was a piece of cake: The bus-driver took care of that :p
But as I even managed to find my way across Paris and London with our old car, I'm sure I would have found my way across Pittsburgh as well. But I must admit that our new car is GPS-equipped and we usually rent our cars with a routefinder, too. Anja is kind of 'geographically challenged' and so the computer helps us to avoid endangering our marital bonds :teeth: Before we had the computer-guidance in the car I sometimes didn't know wether I should bite off a piece of the steering wheel or just strangle Anja :crazy2: So when I asked Anja about ordering the GPS with a new car she sponteneously said ::yes:: to preserve this :love2:
And I also must admit that it is a nice toy, I sometimes just use it for entertainment. You know: Men don't grow up, their toys just get more expensive.;)

Your NOS-cruise sounds cool. We saw a TV-feature about that ship and it looked great.

We are back! We had a wonderful time but the weather was not too good! Cold and rainy!BUT...we did not let it stop us from having fun. The kids swam whenever the rain stopped, we played pool in "Big Muggie's Den" and did some shopping. It was a very relaxing 3 days. This is the 4th trip to HH for "President's weekend" and the FIRST time the weather was poor.We went to see " Miracle" but it was sold out so we saw "Cold Mountain" it was very good.
I also finished Pat Conroy's new book "A losing Season" and enjoyed it very much! A MUST Read for Conroy fans!

I have spent the last 3 hours hooking up my new DLS (broadband) internet. I'm sure it would have taken most people half that amount of time, but I am still a little slow with this stuff.

Eric, got the update! Thanks! We currently have over 70 people on the list! We should be over 100 by cruisetime!

Welcome back Mary and family. The weather here has been crazy. Here in Nashville we had a few snow flakes. Thirty miles to the east and to the south they had from 5 to 11 inches of snow!!!! It was 30 degrees where they had the snow and 41 here in Nashville.

Welcome to all of our newcomers and their families.

Looking forward to going to DC on the 3 rd of April. So far the meet is tentatively scheduled for the air and space museum lobby at 11am.

If your build of Word is not able to show it, just give me an info and you'll get the List as an Adobe-PDF, which can be opened using the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Eric I don't know what I would do without my gps navigation system it is just so handy to go from one address to another. Saves time, miles and maintains martial harmony.

Still researching things to do in Antigua. Just a reminder to everyone to bring plenty of sunscreen slather it on. Even though it will be in the autumn when we sail it is possible to get a nasty sunburn.

Hi Everyone, We're back.:wave2:

Welcome to all our new Cruisers! So glad to have you join us.

Disney was Great! The weather Friday was cloudy but warm. We spent the morning in The Magic Kingdom, and the afternoon at MGM. Finally got to see Fantasmic at MGM. Great show.
We went to The Magic Kingdom again on Sat. morning, did a few things, then took the monorail to Epcot. Spent the rest of the day at Epcot. We got some fast passes for Mission to Space. What a ride! But between that and the rain that started around 2pm we missed hooking up with Alikatt99. Also did not get to do our dinner in England. We were just too wet and too exhasted to wait in the rain for our table. We did make it to The Animal Kingdom Lodge for breakfast on Sunday morning. It was WONDERFUL. And the hotel is very nice, very different.
And on our way home we saw the Goodyear Blimp! :hyper:

I tried to catch up on the boards yesterday, but had to go to the ER with my mother-in-law.(Wicked upper resp. infection.) She is ok, they didn't admit her.

I'm cooking tonight :earseek: so I've got to run.

Welcome back Twins. I was wondering if you were getting rained on as the weather channel, showed alot of rain over the weekend in the South.

Eric and Mike--- So if we had GPS in the car, I wouldn't have to listen to Norm rant when we can't find where we are going. We should look into that.

Mike--- I saw where Nashville got all the snow. Again it was on the weather channel. Norm watchs that station constantly. That picture of Katie is so cute. I need to mark my calendar for the our mini meet.

Peter--- Did you do Mission Space when it first opened up. I was afraid of going on it, but when I finally did in Dec it wasn't so bad. A CM told me that it had been toned down alot since it first opened. Are you looking for the summer dates to open for 2005? Do you think it will be repositioned for the summer? California or Alaska? So what color is New Morning? Light blue?

Ave--- We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge in December. It is really unique. For the right price will stay again. We also loved the breakfast.

Eric--- My son downloaded some pictures from our digital camera onto the computer. I will have to try to figure out how to put them in an email. If I can't he will be home in 3 weeks for spring break and will get him to do it.

Off to bed.

Nancy,
get a hand-held GPS on a PDA. So you can move it from car to car. Ask Mike/Papa about it, he's got one.

I did Mission Space last October and thought it was great. Jim didn't go on it as he wasn't feeling well that day. I virtually walked onto the ride using the single rider line. Looking forward to trying it again.

Saw the rain on the weather channel and did think of you Ave but hoped that it wasn't that bad. We haven't eaten at the AKL yet but we did walk around the resort and thought that it was pretty neat.

If any of our DIS-friends ever decides to come to Good Old Europe, Anja & I will be there for you as native guides - No kidding!!!
But with the $ so low against the €, you'd better wait some time.
BTW, if you want to know how to produce the symbol for the Euro: Hold the ALT-key and type 0128 on the numeric pad. We have a key for it, of course ;)

Welcome back twins. Sounds like you both had a great time.

Mark your calendar Nancy. Looking forward to seeing you and Norm in DC on April the 3 rd. Hope to recruit some more DIS people to join us there.

My son's puppy is starting to get huge!. He is a boxer that was rescued from an animal shelter and he was skin and bones. His previous owner had abused the litter and they were taken away from him. He is fat and sassy now and they named him scrappy. He should be about 80 lbs when fully grown. I believe that the boxer breed is German in origin.

Mike,
I don't know if the boxers are of German origin. They have become very rare over here. The most popular dogs over here right now are all kinds of retrievers. A coworker of mine will get a newly born Labrador Retriever (The yellow kind) next week. He's going to take three weeks off to have a good start with the pup. He already has a Dachshound ('Dackel' in German), but as he lives in the countryside and his DW is at home the whole day, they can take good care of the dogs.
Anja also loves dogs, but as we're out of the the house about 12 -13 hours a day, there's no way for us to get one. And additionally I don't consider it fun to get up in the wee hours and watch a canine p**p :teeth: But when we visit my ex-wife and her DH I love playing with their dog, a really nice Bobtail/Giant-Schnauzer-***** called Pebbles - like Fred Flintstone's daughter.

I suspected that the Boards' automatic guarding software would replace the correct term for a female canine by ***** :rotfl:

But when we visit my ex-wife

Really? Mine would rather visit me in the Visiting Area at the local jail...

:)

Jim,
I know it sounds strange, but my ex & her DH and Anja & I are good friends. They attended our wedding and in the same year we attended theirs. We even spent two vacations together, a week in Switzerland and a week in Denmark. And they would have accompanied us on Cruisetoberfest II, if they had found "foster-parents" for their doggie.
But it usually causes some astonishment over here as well ;)
