The worst of the storm passed just about 5 miles north of us, but the rain continues and the road is underwater. I do not think the water will reach the house, but the backyard is a swamp!

Animals and kids going a little stir crazy (hate to think of what we would do without power)

DH has an old TV in the garage with an antena so we are able to get some TV news.

Going to get the laundry finished before we do loose power (I'm sure it's just a matter of time) so we have clean clothes for the week.

Mary,
I have to show you our radio. We'll bring it to the States anyway. It's a battery-powered AM/FM-radio, which even works without batteries. It has a fold-out crank on the front. Turning that crank for a couple of minutes drives a small generator which loads a set of built-in rechargable batteries with enough power to last for about an hour. We usually have it in the bathroom and I use while soaking in the tub. I don't like devices connected to mains near the tub. We also have it for emergencies, although blackout a scarce over here - I haven't experienced one so far. Most power lines and 99% of all telephonlines are underground in Germany, giving good protection even in adverse weather.

But it's good to hear that you're fine!!::yes::

Peter,

That sounds like a great idea to get a cake for Shirley. I have never met her but from everything I've read, seems like the sweetest and nicest person.

I am planning on calling her to order a basket to be in our stateroom for Haley.

:( Our boys lost the battle for the handball-gold against Croatia. So our tally comes 48 medals total, 14 of them Gold. Quite OK for a small country with very harsh doping-controls. The experts' predictions were 13 Gold, 55 total so we ar 'in the plan'

Before watching handball we were in the gym running on the treadmill watching Formula1: Michael Schumacher finished second and gained his 7th World Championship, the fifth consecutive - And I did 11 miles in 100 minutes, Anja did 8.5 in 80 minutes (She was on the sunbed before startimg the workout)

Mary,

Good luck with the storm, hopefully you guys are back to normal soon... It is getting ready to dump rain on us any second, it has been soooo hot the last few days.

Peter,

Great idea for Shirley...

Mary -- Hope you still have power and that the water doesn't get any higher where you are. Keep us updated if you can (or when you get power back if you lose it -- hope not!)

Eric -- Hope you are wrong about Frances hitting Castaway Cay.

I hope the same, Jeanne - But look at Frances' predicted path:(
We were cheated of going there on our first 3day-cruise in '99 in the aftermath of Floyd, which scored a full hit and even tore off the concrete pier. They had to rebuild the whole infrastructure from scraps.

Girls and Boys we might wind up with a mystery cruise like we did in 2002. Eric are you up to another southern most scavenger hunt? Key West was nice.

A side trip to New Orleans would be ok, Cafe Dumond for beignets and coffee. Crawfish etouffe is nice too.

Mary hope that you got the laundry done and the little ankle bitters fed in case the power goes out. Mike

Eric -- It tore off the concrete pier? Wow -- that was really nasty. Do you have any idea how long it took to rebuild it? A mystery cruise wouldn't be bad, but I would really miss our excursions in Antigua and especially our private tour in St. Thomas. Wonder how Mary is doing? We are having light rain here in Charlotte right now, but it is supposed to get heavy tonight. Shortly after we moved here from Chicago, Charlotte got hit by Hurricane Hugo. First time ever for a hurricane to hit so far inland in NC. It even went up into the mountains. Maybe we were bad luck.

Jeanne,
I think about 6 months or so, but until it was finished they anchored off the island and used shuttle boats to ferry the guests.

Mike,
I insist on our itinerary or I want my money back:jester:
But if we go to KW and do the Scavenger Hunt again, the FFFF either walk or get a deduction from their score:teeth:

New Orleans would be nice, but I'd prefer our scheduled stops - It is pure hell for us Germans if a plan is not adhered to:hyper:

Right now we're watching the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games - The Greeks once again are doing a great job::yes::

Gaston is 'dying' and will be downgraded to a mere Tropical Depression soon. I hope your yard is OK in two weeks again, Mary - We need it for the S'mores and Anja is so looking forward to play with your doggie. Since knowing about yours and Ave's she can't wait to see them - and you & the families of course;)
I hope your dog understands German:jester: But knowing that he's American I guess he's monolingual :teeth:

Peter, great idea about the cake.

Less then 4 weeks till Eric and Anja arrive at the "Worlds Most Beautiful Beaches!" We have a trip to Shell Island planned and a canoe trip down Econfina. An area most tourist never see. If anyone is interested the web site is www.canoeeconfinacreek.com. Looking forward to showing off PCB! Even if it is not a "Major" city. LOL
Brunch Bunch Update: We now have more then 60 people! :bounce: Anyone else want to join in the fun?

All is well in Charleston. We never did loose power and the cable TV is back on.

Eric, my doggy is bilingual...canine and human!

Another storm "Hermine" is now off the coast! I wonder if we are going to have ANY storms that DON'T dump rain on South Carolina!!I am sure Frances is going to get us wet next weekend.
jeanniec...Hugo was very bad in Charleston. We lived just outside of Charleston at the time and I will never forget it.

I would be disapointed if we don't have our scheduled stops, but as long as we have nice weather and smooth sailing, everything else is fine. We had a wonderful time on the "Mystery Cruise", and truth be told...I like the Western stops better. If it wasn't for the new port of Antiqua we would have booked the Western again.

Peter...great idea about the cake.

Glad that you are fine Mary and family. Two legged and four legged. Antigua is the reason that we booked another eastern route also. I tend to favor the western ports also. Like Grand Cayman and still have never been inside of Carlos and Charlie's in the three time that we have been in Cozumel.

We had some friends that went to Jamaica and they said if they never stop there again it would be too soon.

Belize or British Guyana would be nice. Met a nurse from there who was in Jones town when they all drank the cool aid. She was working in Huntsville when Kathy's brother was in the hospital.

Mike -- We went to Belize on a Celebrity cruise a couple of years ago. Not interested in going back (altho I do like the Western ports better, too. Antigua was the draw for this cruise). Belize is well known as a dive port and I guess if that is the reason for going, it is a great as it has the second largest barrier reef in the world as I later read. I would be afraid to walk thru what there is of the town. We did a short ruins tour which was interesting, but the poverty on the way there was unreal. Our guide explained that cocaine is king there and every home that wasn't a windowless shack had iron bars on the windows and doors.

Hi Everyone,

As some of you know I have been very under the weather for the past 7 weeks related to the most severe pain I have ever experienced in my entire life from my sciatica nerve. This has been the summer from h*ll for me and at 60 days I was ready to cancel our trip. But Norm said since we have travel insurance we should just hang in there until the very end to see if we can go. I had a second steriod epidural this past Tuesday and for the first time in 7 weeks I am not in a drug induced stupor from all the pain medicatations I was taking. But the best part is that I am now able to sit which was nearly impossible before. I want to thank everyone who had me in their thoughts and prayers and sent healing pixie dust my way. I now feel more confident that we will be able to make the cruise.

I finally booked our room at the Radisson. Air Tran had changed our flight time on Friday 10/1 from a non stop from BWI to MCO to where we were going to have to go to Atlanta and then MCO. They were very nice when I called and asked to be put on the last non stop out of BWI which is now 3:30pm. I didn't want to chance sitting that many hours on a plane. So we will be getting to the Radisson probably around 7-7:30pm instead of 1am. So should be able to meet everyone at the pool on Friday night.

Post cruise I had gotten an email from Disney with a great rate of $79/night for moderate, so we are booked at CSR. Had wanted POFQ, but no rooms available at that rate.

I hope that I have my endurance built back up by the time we are crusing. I had been working out for the past 2 years prior to this happening and doing 4-5 miles of power walking, strength building, and aerobic workouts. Just finishing a 1 mile walk at a much slower pace is all I can do right now. Our gym membership expires on 9/2 and just not sure if I am going to renew right away for myself. I may ask if I can get credit for the past weeks that I didn't use it. I was to sick to stop my membership or even ask Norm to do it for me. They are really nice so I think it might not be a problem. I haven't been to the gym since this happened. Only walking around here.

The only good thing that resulted from this ( I always try to find a silver lining) it that I lost 13 pounds. So I will be able to eat some extra desserts on the cruise.

I have only glanced at the boards over the past 7 weeks, so I know that I have missed alot. However, Norm and I are so looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones.

Again thanks to everyone for keeping me your thoughts and prayers. Continue sending pixie dust my way.

Nancy

Antigua was the draw for us also. I still like Western the best especially Key West, Cozumel and Caymans. We have been to Belize and Jamaica. Our excursion in Belize took us out to the barrier reef area to snorkle and then we stopped at a small island to eat on the way back. It is a very poor country, but the natives were friendly where we were. We all hated Jamaica when we were there in May. Natives are very aggressive and my sons were approaches many times to buy drugs. If I ever go there again, I am only going to the island village right by the ship and stay at Margaritteville.

Carlos and Charlies is my favorite stop in Cozumel. My past 2 trips at least I remember leaving there which I can't say for my first trip there. Senor Frogs is also cool.

Mary -- So glad you didn't suffer any major damage and even managed to keep your power!

Nancy -- Good to hear from you again. I know that sciatica can be horribly painful. Luckily I haven't had that problem myself but my SIL did and the pain injections finally took her pain away. It took 3 injections for her. We so look forward to meeting you and hope that you continue to be pain free.

It just would not be the same without you both on the cruise.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Katie has a sinus infection and we have to take her to the pediatrician in the morning. Her mother and father are working and can't take off. I guess this is what grandparents are for:tongue: Kathy has a sewing class tomorrow and there are patients to see.

Bette mom the picture is in the mail. Hope that you and Kim are doing well and that she is sticking it to her former boss in order to get her vacation pay.

Hope everyone in the Carolina's are staying dry and have power. The Atlantic is sure busy this year. Storms are coming one after another. Mike

Not sure if any of you have seen this webcam of Antigua. Not sure where it is located on the island and it's not a great cam, but it is Antigua! http://www.global-player.com/pages/05_webcam.html

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I told my mom I got a birthday greeting from Germany in German and she was impressed. I told her that's what you get with the DIS ::yes::

We signed up for the REAS package and I can't wait! Going to Palos on Sunday, massage on Thursday and thinking about breakfast on Friday.

Mary: Glad you're doing OK in SC......lots of rain and flooding here in NC, but not too much wind and no power outages in this area. So far so good......

twipple: we also have the REAS......our Palo ressie is on Monday as is our spa treatment.

Eric: sorry about your recent rent increase. That's a long period of time for a newlywed discount....heck, lots of couples over here don't last nearly that long. I suggest the two of you get a quickie divorce and then remarry.....that way you'll have another 7 years to go!

Love the cruise cam link, but where are the DCL ships?

We had a super humid weekend and I think it got to my sinus cause I have a headache that just won't quit.

I did see that Nancy stopped in to "Play" and nice to hear she's getting better and the cruise is still on.

Has anyone heard from Dave & Ellen - CheesePlease? Hope they are all OK.

Seems this may be the year of the "Mystery Cruise" and also I see some cruises have missed CC. Bummer on the CC but the rest of the ports OH WELL. As long as they feed me and pampr me, take me anywhere.

Check on you later ... back to work.

Good idea, Jeanne.
But there's no such thing as a quicky divorce over here - We still have very restrictive gun laws :teeth:

I called the responsible civic agency today and after having heard the busy-signal for at least 30 times I eventually got through. I told them that we're not willing to hand over such a large wad of money at once, but insist on three instalments. That civil servant then told me 'That's no problem, Sir. I'll send you the form for the application for paying it in instalments. The instalments are of course interest free!' When I told her that I was willing to simply transfer a third of the money right now, another third next month and the last one four weeks later, she thought about it for 10 seconds or so (I think I heard the cogs clicking inside her head;) ) and then said: 'That's not necessary, I'll send you the form'. When I then inquired about the time required to send me the form as we are leaving for a four-week-vacation next week, she just made a note in our file about the duration of our vacation and stated that there 'Is no need to hurry' and that it will probably take longer for the form to be sent.
Bureaucrats:rolleyes: So tomorrow we go to our bank and start an automatic transfer of €169 for the 1st of each month and wait for their form. Anja's employer pays a 13th salary first of December as xmas-bonus, so we'll use that for it instead of taking it from one of our saving accounts - If they don't need the interest, we'll happily take it :teeth:

Hi there folks!

We also have the REAS. We're doing our massages followed by Palo brunch on Sunday morning... (A nice way to start the week and get us in the MOOOOOD :)) I'm so looking forward to a relaxing vacation. I can't wait.
I don't mind a "mystery cruise", just hope our stops are tropical.

To the Jeanneg and Mary....wow, you have had so much rain this season. It seems almost every named storm so far has affected the Carolinas in some way. We've had light to moderate showers, but nothing too bad. I'm alittle concerned about Frances. That one seems to be keeping its west ward track and they predict (at this time), it could affect the central Carolinas (us?) I was here for Floyd, but not Hugo, however, when Floyd was on its way, everyone was preparing. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, since they're so unpredictable.

Eric, thanks for the lists! Looks good!

Unfortunately, we won't make it to the beach party, we'll still be driving down. We would love to have met the famous Shirley. She sounds like a wonderful person. We'll see you at the terminal:)

Well, can't believe how quickly its coming up.

Peter-
Glad you contacted them. I was going to send off an email to them after work today....looks like you got a not so good response....do you think bullying would work on the five?

Just out of curiousity, all the Cruisetober-festers are booked on the NON Disney Eco tour, right? There is another DCL sponsored excursion....

It is funny, the 9/25 cruise thread is just starting to pick up....it is so funny how active this thread is, and how non-active the 9/25 has been! But we'll be doing a Radisson meet with a few of those folks...should be fun. But , no phone call from the Radisson to see if all was OK!

One last bit of sort of bad news, my darling DH is yet to pass his scuba cert. Oddly enough that jerk of an instructor has sold his shop and "retired" since that horrible weekend in Utah, but has been very helpful and flexible in working with Tim to get passed. Perhaps he was simply burnt on the business...Well, the ONLY thing Tim needs to do is take his mask off and clear it, and he will be done....the question is, will he do it? So, I may be needing a dive buddy! (but lets just hope he passes!) He did it in the pool at least 10 times when we practiced on our own last month. Cross your fingers!

Boy have you guys been busy. We've spent the last week and weekend moving. I keep saying I'm going to just abandon everything and start over, but alas, I'm too attached to "everything".

Those of you who know George Carlin's skit about "Stuff", think of that and then you'll have a pretty good image of what I've been going through.

Eric, got the list and thank you, sent you a pm with state room number in case there's an Ultimate List.

For formal nite, we three will all be wearing evening gowns in various shades of purple (my favorite color). So we'll add a splash of color amongst all that black.

PADISNEY, glad you're feeling better and sending more pixie dust for your continued recovery.

Kim -- I called DCL today and you and Ciara are booked for 2:15 glass bottom boat tour. Thank you soooooo much again.

Eric, sorry to hear about your rent increase but I feel you pain, went from paying 1,000/mth to $1600/mth.

Hoping to get our docs soon, so we can join BigRed1 in doing the doc dance.

To everyone:

Deadline for the ULTIMATE EDITION is 09/08/04 noon EST

No docts here yet but that's ok. Jim and I are ok with a mystery cruise as long as we get there. He took his suit pants into the tailor's so they will be ready for eating on the cruise.

DS arrived home Sunday night. We were out for dinner and opened the door and knew immediately that he was home -- his 'stuff' is all over the front hall. We also have MRE's (Meals ready to eat) in the kitchen so if they are still there at the time of cruising we may take them with us. :p

Hopefully Frances won't hit anywhere and will just turn around and go back out to sea.

Nancy -- glad that you are feeling better. My Dad had the same problem about 1.5 years ago. He finally had to have it operated on though as the steriod shots did nothing for him. He was miserable for about 6 months. He's now waiting for a hip replacement which he should have in the fall. He didn't want it this summer as he still wanted to play golf (why I don't know but he did).

Must get ready for work -- can't wait for the weekend since it's a long one although it's hard to believe that it's Labour Day already.

Take care everyone.

Anja & I completed some more steps towards status 'Ready for travel':
-We had our second annual check at our dentist's plus Shine&Polish from our dental hygienist.
-We picked up $500 cash at our bank. No bills larger than a Twenty, they even had some $1-bills (Non-consecutive numbers, of course;) )
-We bought the last gifts, which were left on our shopping list. I just hope the US Customs accept everything at the values we state;) There's a allowance of $100 per person only, so we have to use some white lies:p

Now the only thing left is the Schnaps. We went for grocery shopping yesterday, but somehow forgot to by the Schnaps. You must know that buying liquor in Germany is as simple as buying ammo in the USA:jester: You get it in every supermarket. I'll have to do it next Saturday.

On Friday we'll have our annual company outing. Although it is still a secret to most of our employees I already know what's up. I was the head of the volunteer coordination team for many years and still have my connection;)
We're doing a timetravel back into the dark medieval years!! We rented a castle about 20 miles south of Frankfurt and will feast and celebrate there. You won't believe me, but the castle's name is Burg Frankenstein NO KIDDING!! This is the real thing, it was named Frankenstein in medieval times. Nowadays it used for company outings, horror parties, and Halloween is kind of high-season for them. I'll give you a report on Saturday. That is, if I'm able to - The beer is on our CEO:crazy: He already prepared himself for a stiff bill:cool1: :drinking1

Now wait a minute. If The Shrink Fairy hadn't come around in the middle of the night and brutally shrunk the pants this wouldn't have been a topic of conversation. Blame The Shrink Fairy and not me.

I'm pleased to report that we both have a rather large spiral bound workbook that we've started making vacation lists in.

(Yaaaaay!!!)

I've actually used up four pages in the book to plan and co-ordinate the meals for the trip down and back in the van. We spent almost two hours on Saturday working on it. If I hadn't of double spaced everything and wrote IN REALLY LARGE LETTERS I probably would only have used two pages, but that's really beside the point.... the lists have started and I'm so looking forward to making lots more. :) Although come to think of it "Eat at Crackerbarrel" seems to appear fairly often.

Today's task is to expand my own packing list and I've done quite well on it so far:

1) Socks.
2) Underwear.
3) Stuff.
4) The Shrink Fairy shrunk pants.
5) More stuff.

Jim.

I almost forgot what I came to post (senior moment) ...

Eric do you remember when you wrote ...

"Once upon a time there was a Disney-addicted couple from Germany who booked a cruise for 09/22/01. Early in 2000 Viking (That's me) started a thread on the DIS-board looking for people willing to meet on the ship and spend a great time. Not very much later the group started to grow rapidly and reached a size of about 110 people and our group was named Cruisetoberfest, to honour us Germans and all our cruiser with German origins, and because 09/22/01 was also the official opening date of the Oktoberfest.

And then there was 9/11 :-(

But the two Germans decided that they would not let some madmen take control of their lives and so did most of our new American friends and four days later the two dared the leap over the Great Pond on one of the first flights out of Germany heading for WDW. Upon arrival they were more than surprised to find a message from their American friends waiting at Dixie Landings' frontdesk (You really made us feel welcome, Mike!!) A week later we all met at the terminal and on the ship and spent a wonderful time, building up strong bonds of friendship.
When the cruise came to an end many of us promised to cruise again and stay in contact - And everybody stuck to his word. Many of the Americans just waited for us Germans to book again and as soon as we had booked they did the same. Some of them even cruised together again in 2002 and nearly became the Flying Disneymen, when chased across the Caribbean by a Big Bad Storm, never arriving at their planned Ports-of-Call, except for CC.

In 2003 we all met again and were reinforced by many, many new friends and guess what: We decided to cruise again - Especially after Tinkerbell sprinkled the writer of these lines with an overdose of PixieDust enabling him to become a successful Mouseketeer and hence forcing him to come back."

This is how our friendship started and continues to grow!

Thanks for posting that again, Cathy - I think it must be at least 6 months and 2000 posts old ;-)

Tomorrow I will print the banner for the sail-away-party and the group-photo. I tested it on monday: One of my co-workers married last weekend and I printed a larger banner which we hung over her desk welcoming her with her new name - and about 3 dozen balloons in our company colours.
The printer I'm going to use prints on paper of 3.5 feet width and virtually indefinite length. Our banner will be about 2 feet high and 11 feet long. But it will only contain text - no Mickeys as the printer is only connected to our CAD-system for the our charts, but I think this is better anyway to avoid trouble with Disney;)

I handed in may vacation request today. Our vacation planning is always done in December and we have to plan 90% of our vacation time, but before leaving we'll have to hand in a formal vacation request which is required by our Human Resources Dept. Additionally I accumulated some hour to extend my vacation time by a day after our return and as we're not allowed to hand in requests for using up saved time more than two weks in advance I had to wait until now. So our first vacation day will be on saved time and the rest on vacation time. Nevertheless I'm accumulating some more time as I intend to leave on Friday 9/10 not later than noon :Pinkbounc I'll just clean up my desk, then I have a meeting of my company's Work Safety Council. Being a paramedic and first aid-instructor I'm a consultant for the council and in charge of all first aiders in our house. Additionally I'm one of our volunteer firefighters. We meet every three months, analyze all accidents of the last three months and try to find ways to prevent new ones.
But this weekend I'll take work home again to help out my old team and Anja has to do the night shift - We really deserve that vacation!!!
Anja will take the floppy-disk with the T-shirt design to a print shop close to her hospital and have the Shirts done. The ask for about $25 for each shirt, but they deliver fantastic quality. My company uses that shop for all our promo-shirts, etc.

OK, we call it a day now: I punched in some over time, then we ran 4 miles at the gym, did a 50minute leg-routine and then 45 minutes of Badminton with our company-team - and now we're dead tired:faint: and need some sleep:cloud9:

Happy Anniversary, Mike and Kathy! Ours is on 9/22 and we, too, plan to wait to celebrate until we are on the Magic.

My BIL & SIL are doing a mandatory evacuation from Vero Beach by 2 pm today. They live right off A1A (the side of their house is actually on A1A) about a mile from the VB DVC resort. And, of course, the resort is directly on the beach. We have reservations to go there after the cruise. Hope there is somewhere to go.

Mary -- I have never heard about the Wonder docking at Charleston before. That is really interesting. We did our Celebrity cruise out of Charleston. It was great -- only a 3 or 3-1/2 hour drive to the port. NCL has it tied up now and our TA advised us that we would probably not like the NCL ship that sails from Charleston. No verandahs -- not even on the suites -- and it is an old ship.

Frances -- GO AWAY! Wonder what is happening to CC -- I think Frances is paying a visit to the Bahamas today.

Happy Anniversary, Mike and Kathy!

I read somewhere that this week's Magic went to CC on Sunday instead of going to Key West and they added another Mexican port to the itinerary to replace KW. I'm glad they didn't miss CC....and what a nice way to start off their week of sailing.

Leaving for NY today.....it's primary a business trip, but we're going to try to visit as many old friends as possible. If all goes well, we even plan to meet briefly with Nancy and Norm since we have to pass through those parts on our way back home. Please pray for "traveling mercies".......I get a little freaked out when I think about what sorts of weather we may encounter and also any fallout from the convention which should be officially over, but who knows what wackos are still around!
take care, everyone.........

Disney Cruise Line® –
Important Information
September 2, 2004 12:53:59 PM

Currently, we are monitoring Hurricane Frances very closely. At this time, it is probable that the storm will impact air travel into the Central Florida area through Sunday. Given this information, we have decided to modify the Disney Magic sailing scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 4th and the Disney Wonder sailing scheduled to depart on September 5th.

The Disney Magic will now sail on Monday, September 6th on a 5-night voyage and the Disney Wonder will also sail on Monday, September 6th on a 3-night voyage. Both ships are scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral.

Guests sailing on one of these voyages are currently being contacted by our Reservations staff.

Probably old news but I found this item on another website:

The article talks about closing Port Canaveral.

"The evacuation of the Canaveral Harbor must be completed and all vessels must be out of the Harbor no later than 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3rd at which time the harbor will be closed. Failure to remove a vessel can result in a fine of $1,000 per hour, in accordance with Florida Statutes. The Port will work in cooperation with the Brevard Office of Emergency Management and the U.S. Coast Guard to determine when it will be safe to re-open. "

What is happening to the ships that are sailing right now? Are they ending the cruise early or pulling into another port?

Heard that Royal Caribbean is bringing their ships in a day early (today) and Carnival is still doing their 3 day cruises--you get a cruise to nowhere, $100.00 per person stateroom credit and 50% off of a future cruise (good till December 2005)--Holland America only has one ship affected and their wasn't anything on their web site earlier. Sam's cousin lives in Hollywood Florida and they were evacuating as of 2:00 p.m. today (they live on the beach)--funny thing was they just bought a cottage in PA and lived here all summer long and figured that Monday was the day to start their trek back--just got back yesterday and spent the day tying down the hatches and closing their shutters and now they have to leave home. I certainly hope that everyone in Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, etc. remain safe and God spares these poor people for the second time in 3 weeks.

Wouldn't mind being on the Magic...9 days for the price of 7 but I wouldn't want to be on the 5 day leaving Monday and paying for 7..I'm sure Disney will make it up to them even though it isn't their fault.

President Bush arrives in town tonight at our little airport and he is going to be appearing in Moosic (where I live) and of course, the route that I travel to work on will either be a mad house with traffic or closed completely. John Edwards was here yesterday and met with several of Sam's buddies from Techneglas who were all laid off when the plant closed. Funny thing is, the union president met with him also (they met at one of the guys houses for coffee) but he is a staunch Republican!!! Too funny!!

This morning nearly everybody come late to work, I guess to be well rested for the company outing as we get the full day paid anyway. So I used the oppportunity to print not one, but two banners. Unfortunately they came out a bit smaller than expected: About 5.5'x1.5'. But having to lug them around for three weeks, I prefer them to be a bit more handy. I just got a great idea:idea: I leave them in Charleston with Mary :teeth:

I am so glad I am NOT living in South/Central Florida right now. What a mess!:( I called my brother in NY last night as, I was worried about his daughter who lives in South Fl. Thankfully she and her baby are in NY for a pre-planed visit for Labor Day weekend. Her husband however stayed, and is waiting out the storm in Tampa

Back from the medieval fest: We had a blast::yes:: We played lots of funny games in randomly assembled teams (To enhance cooperation througout the company), had a great dinner buffet and then knights doing showfights for us. After that they switched off all the lights and had a juggler throwing around torches and other burning things. It was a wonderful evening with temps in the lower 70ies even after 10 pm, we could see lots of stars - and even bats flying around.

Hey Rosemary, Great to hear from you. Hope you and DH are doing well. Wish you were cruising with us again.:(

Peter, Thanks for the IM. To anyone else wondering, my family lives in NW FL. Just SW of Tallahassee. We are on the coast, but at this time Hurricane Frances should not give us any problems, except maybe some rain. But after living in FL for 20 years I have learned to pay close attention to these storms. We are hopeing that she "dies" once she makes landfall. Worst case, for us is the storm crossing the peninsula and reforming in the Gulf of Mexico. I have a niece and her family in Lake Worth, which is right next to West Palm Beach. Luckily my niece and her baby are in NY visiting her parents. But her hubby is home, getting ready for the storm. We are praying that the storm contines to weaken, and increase it's forward speed.

From all the info I am glemming from the boards, it looks like Disney is doing it's best to accomadate cruisers and travelers. And of couse there are those who got a 9 day cruise on the Magic. NOT a bad deal.
Cruiser: Hi boss, sorry I can't be to work on Monday. You see I'm "stuck" on this darn cruise ship.
Boss: Well, when can you get back to work?
Cruiser: I just don't know right now. I'll let you know. :hyper:

Got to run and buy dinner!
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Now we're hoping that he's not Ivan the Horrible:p This one could collide with our travel plans as it could be in Central Florida when we're arriving:eek:
Please keep you fingers crossed for us::yes::
This year's hurricane-season is unbelieveable.
I don't think that we'll make it to CC this time as Frances' eye passed right over the island. CC got it from both sides this way, so there will be considerable damage. Add the 10 to 15 feet floods and the island won't look very nice for quite a time.

jeanniec
09-04-2004, 11:18 AM
Eric -- We have our fingers crossed for you. Surely Ivan won't be a problem for FL or SC or wherever in the US. As you said, this is an unbelievable year for hurricanes, and I think it will have to stop soon (like as soon as sweet Frances is gone).

Do you really think that CC will be closed when we cruise? Saw pictures on tv this morning that said that the Bahamas sustained very little damage in spite of the winds. That made me feel very hopeful about CC.

What a suprise!

I usually book with AAA and get the free soda program as a "gift".
So, since there are free sodas at the drink station no more free soda program. Which is good me, I don't drink soda. (Only water coffee and alcohol.)

AAA is now giving onboard credit. Inside cabins get $75 and outside cabins get $150. (I hope I read that correctly in the docs.)
I didn't expect to get that much. Now, I booked onboard last year and got $400 onboard credit and now $150 onboard credit Is that cool or what?

My T shirt will last exactly one wearing. Anja had our T-shirts made by a professional in a shop specialized on graphics&design, where they print anything on virtually everything. They had two different qualities of Tees, Anja took the better quality and having the small logo printed on the chest and our names and the larger ones on the back (Goofy for me, dancing Mickey for Anja) came to €42 ($50) including the shirts. I guess those will last. We have many shirts made by the them and they really last a long time - Opposed to the iron-ons we did ourselves last year.

Jeanne,
I hope Ivan will adhere to your logic - But as he is a male storm and you're female I suspect there may be some incompatabilities:jester:

I read on another thread that the eye passed within 15 miles from CC, which results in CC being exposed to the northern sector of Frances, then some hours calm, followed by the southern portion of Frances - this time with the winds from the opposite direction. Now add the fact that CC rises only a couple of feet over MSL and the possible flood of about 15 feet, and it all draws an ugly picture of CC's current condition.
According to another thread the new pier withstands even a Five, but as all edifices on the island are simple shacks they could very well have been blown away. Additionally they may have to dredge the passage to pier due to driftsand put there by the storm.

Went back to work on Thursday and that went well. So worked 2 days and then off 3. Plus I have started back to the gym. My gym gave me credit for the 6 weeks that I missed even though I hadn't frozen my membership. I still don't walk at my normal pace, so I'm avoiding the treadmills. But have no problem with the elliptical machines so doing 3 miles on them. Working back up to my 5 miles that I normally due. After a week or so I will starting using some of the other machines. It just feels so good to be able to do some form of exercise.

I've been watching Frances on the TV. Even though it is now only a Cat. 2 it still is really pounding the coast. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people in its path. Hope everyone stays safe.

We are hoping to meet with Jeanneg on Monday on their return trip home.

Fatten him up and he will be that much easier to overcome in the great water battle. I guess that we will miss Castaway Cay. I wonder what they will do in it's place. Ooops,
just realized that you're having a long weekend in the USA - Enjoy it::yes::
Just checked out Frances:eek: When I picked up Anja at the hospital at 0645am we listened to two different radiostations' newscasts (Both broadcasting statewide) at 0655 and 0700am while on the Autobahn: Both had Frances as their main topic and opened up with her. Didn't sound too good with 2 million cut off from powersupply, trees uprooted, boats capsized or thrown around in the harbours, etc. As soon as Anja's in bed I'll don my headphones and tune in to CNN to get some pictures. I just hope that MCO doesn't sustain permanent damage, which may have negative impact of us flying in next week. I wouldn't care flying in via Tampa, which would save us nearly an hour of driving, but unfortunately the Hertz rental station in Tampa doesn't provide cars with GPS.

Nancy,
good to hear that you're up and going again ::yes:: And even better that you're striving to get back in shape ASAP. Anja loves patients who do their part to get well on their own - Instead of requiring to be pushed by the RNs/docs;) With the cruise still four weeks ago you will be surely able to get back to your old self in time to enjoy it ::yes:: PD for you *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Mike,
I don't need any fattening up, I'm still in the process of losing it - which will definitely be a challenge with four weeks of American food ;) Nevertheless I already have muscles in places where you don't even have places :jester: (I freely admit, that I stole that line from the Governator:teeth: ) But my friend, I still give not up and continue to hope for Castaway Cay, as for us it would result in 50% of our cruises not reaching it :(

The ports of New Orleans or Galveston would not be bad if we had to divert.

Just made our shirts too, but didn't wash and dry them either before or after since the directions said to wait 24-48 hours before doing that. This is the first time I'm using the transfer paper from Hanes (usually use HP paper) so we'll see what happens after they're washed.

Folks,
this is last- or better the lastest:crazy:- call for changes, additions: Submit your entries until Wednesday, 09/08/04, noon EST for the ULTIMATE EDITION and for the HANDY EDITION.
Still no docs for us, have to call DCL tomorrow night and will inquire about their shipping status.

Mike,
I hope you won't bring that device to the Cruise:jester:

Keep your fingers crossed that Ivan is more like Earl and less like Charley or Frances. We just watched 'Hey Dude, Where's my car' and after that switched to CNN to check on Frances and it looks like Florida really gets his share of adverse weather for the next decade in one big payment. Just more reason for us to get there and spend some money;)

Hi Guys, Kim here...

For our table group at main seating dinner.

We just came back from the Dollar Tree store and we were able to dress our table mates to the max for the Pirate Night festivities !!! Great place !!! prices are sooooo cheap !!!

Oh, Fiona & Jim,

Before I forget again, I picked up the costumes for the 4 of us for MNSSHP, I will ship them directley to the WDW resort. they will fit perfectly....

No shirts yet for us, I loaded a new color cartridge into the printer and now everything is printing in bright pink. I will probably just forward the files to work and print them on my color laser and then deal with the ink jet when we get home... However we are finally sorting clothes and starting to figure out what all we need to take... Some days I HATE technology!

Any of you guys play Scrabble ?? I have a great travel game board so I am going to bring it along, perhaps we can have a mini Scrabble play off on a sea day ???

We will be happy where ever we go as we are very fortunate to be able to cruise at all. SIL is sitting in FL right now and dealing with all the weather.
If we do end up on a Western DH has already warned me to expect a large increase in our Spa bill! We have done two westerns and not been overly excited about them. DH has never been on an Eastern and was really looking forward to it. On the other hand, New Orleans would be interesting!

Well if we are to end up with a mystery cruise again as long as we are all together on the Disney Magic then things are nice....

I would love to visit San Juan again, Cozumel was fun also... As far as New Orleans, that city is way low on my list. Have been to N.O. many times for business it was Ok the first few times but it is kinda old... If you can't eat shellfish you are in for a harder time with the restaurants everything has shellfish in it (1st hand knowledge) However, there is a decent shopping mall right where the cruise ships dock, so for the shoping fanatics you are all set.

7 days on the Magic going in circles is better than 7 days at work...

From now on I am not logging off until I get #4500 or #4600. I'm serious. To bad the DSL woun't be on until Tuesday. :( So I have to logg off because I have to use the phone line. After Tuesday I am on until I get it. Really I am.

 Now that's one way to put it! As long as I don't have a phone to answer, the CM's feed and pamper me ... go in circles!

So funny to see most of us watching the weather or CNN channel to check on weather! Hope everyone is OK and not too much damage to CC. Hey if not this year, maybe next.

One thing for sure .. if we go to San Juan again, I'm not going to try and put my fingers back a few centuries by sticking them in the cracks of the fort. Papa's Kathy had to say that I had to take her up on it ... funny thing was there was a moving fuzzy thing on the inside. Can you say CPR!

Well going to the WDW boards to see if there was any damage there from the storm.

Have a nice night.

Kim - great minds think alike! I was just at the same store and saw these cute little paper heads with pirate hats and patches on them. Only had 5 bucks on me (I hate carrying cash!) so figured I would go back Tuesday! Still trying to find a suitable parrot or monkey!

Folks,
Ivan really worries me:(
He's a Four by now and expected to become a Five within the next 12 - 24 hours:scared1: And what's even worse: His possible arrival in Orlando would put him there when we're scheduled to touch down there :(
This means that we could be stranded in Philadelphia for a day or two. OK, I would like to explore the City of Brotherly Love - But on my terms!!!
I already feel like in the days between 9/11 and 9/15/04, with a rising uncertainty wether we'll make it to Florida or not:(

Peter,
I just said to one of my coworkers, that I will take one of our New England-Guidebooks with me - Just in case we get stuck in Philly.
If Ivan follows the forecast, it will be a close race for Orlando between him and us ;) And I guess that we then would head straight for Charleston instead of going to Crystal River. I'm still hoping that he goes the way Earl took, who simply vanished south of Hispaniola::yes::

Eric -- Can't believe that you and Anja are leaving in only 5 days. Time is really flying by right now (no pun intended). I truly hope and, for some reason, believe that Ivan will not hit Florida. They have already broken records for hurricanes, and how many records can they break in one month? No more is my belief. So I sincerely hope that you guys will land in Orlando as planned. I do think that you were probably right about CC, unfortunately.

We still have not heard from my BIL & SIL who live in Vero Beach on A1A about a mile from the Disney resort. Actually, I have two BIL's & SIL's who live in Vero about a mile apart. Not as worried about the ones who just have a vacation home there, but the ones who have only one home, and it is there. Also have a niece who has a vacation home on the Indian River in Sebastian, right next to Vero. Hopefully, we will get some info today now that Frances has left that coast.

Haven't done our tshirts yet but are planning to do them hopefully this week. We are working on some stuff for next weekend which is our once yearly scouting reunion.

Also spending a lot of time watching CNN and Frances and Ivan. Truly hope that Ivan goes away and disappears.

Hope we get to CC but if not at least we'll be with friends. Do you think we'll go someplace else or just have another day at sea?

Must get back to cleaning up. Have decided DS's army gear has spent it's last day in the kitchen and front hall -- it's moving to his room whether he does it or I do. :p

Had lunch with Jeanne (Jeanneg) and John as they stopped in York today on there way back to Raleigh. It is always so special to meet fellow DIS cruisers. What a lovely couple and we are so looking forward to having them as dinner partners. Hope they have a safe trip back to NC.

I will have to check out the Dollar store for pirate themed things. I do have a red and white stripped sweater that would work for me.

Eric--- Aren't nurses always model patients? Actually I feel better after I exercise as it seems to loosen up all my muscles. Does the DCL gym have Ellipitical trainer machines? I only used the treadmills there before while on DCL. I find that the Ellipitical machines work so much better for me since they are low impact.

Three day weekend is nearly over and back to work on Tuesday.

Take care everyone in Francis path.

Nancy,
Anja & I both think that they only had the conveyor-belt type treadmills and the steppers with the up/down-motion. No elliptical trainers as far as we can remember.
We also like the elliptical gizmos, we usually do about 15 miles per week on them and another 15-20 on the conveyor-belt types.
I especially like the possibility to go backwards on the elliptical ones, and that there is no impact. Being still in the range of 190-195lbs I have to be careful with my joints ;) Anja with her 100-102 lbs doesn't have any impact at all:jester:

Fiona,
you won't believe it: On German TV there is a girl who has to sing the Canadian anthem in front of 5000 people, opening a boxing fight between a Canadian and a German boxer. The problem: She can't sing and has extreme stagefright. She and her Mom are guests in a TV-show called 'For you I'd do EVERYTHING', where one person has to do something he/she's totally afraid of, to have a wish for a loved one fulfilled. Her Mom's wish is to fly in one of those large Blackhawk copters.
I guess she should never show up in Canada, but her Mom will be flying:p

I just spent ONE HOUR in DCL's waiting loop for international customers to inquire about the status of our docs - No one picked up, but they got nice music:crazy:
Then I tried the number for US-customers, where I got the following recording: For the time being they will only serve people on the next three cruises. 'Regular' customers will be served from Wednesday on again.
I guess for the near future there won't be any character called 'Frances' the Disney-empire:jester:

Viking
09-06-2004, 03:22 PM
I just sent DCL an email regarding the whereabouts of our docs. I found a page stating their refund police concerning the cancelled/infringed cruises due to Frances and I have to say, that they are more than generous: R-E-S-P-E-C-T::yes::

Thanks Eric for the gym information. I am just so spoiled from the gyms on the other cruise lines which are huge and have all the equipment I have in my home gym. Will just have to make due with whatever is available. Hopefully in another month I will be able to walk normally and be able to do my 4 miles on a regular treadmill.

I also saw somewhere that WDW was asking for people not to call for any regular reservations until the middle of the week.

Do you have to pay for those phone calls to DCL?

Hi Everyone, Thanks for all the thought and prayers. They Worked!:p We are safe from the storm once again! First Bonnie and now Frances. Unlike our southern neighbors. :( We are also hoping that Ivan leaves FL alone.
I remember planning our first ever Disney Cruise. 9/28/02. All kinds of tropical activity in the Gulf and Carribean going on. My attitude was "I don't care if the ship never leaves port, as long as I get to spend seven days having someone else doing the cooking and cleaning". And we wound up having a wonderful time.
Kim, I would love to teach you how to play backgammon! Great game for the tables on deck 9. Anyone else?

Now he made another turn - Towards Florida:scared1:
OK, he won't interfere with our arrival, but he could mess up our plans for Crystal River:(
I already started looking for a motel in Orlando, where we would spend the night after our arrival. And I checked the availablity of rooms at our hotel in Charleston, where we would arrive two days early in this case.
I'll work out a couple of contingency plans, and then on Friday will just activate one according to the situation:( But I'm still hoping that we can simply stick with the original plan.::yes:: Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Another issue:
About half a year ago I offered to bring 10 CDs with pictures from German and from our trip to Disneyland Paris. Then six people registered for getting one of the CDs. Nevertheless I toasted 10 disks yesterday. The remaining four will be given away on a first come/first served-basis. Just mail, PM or post to get your copy.

@GoofyNut

Eric ... Don't remember if I asked for a CD but would like one ;)

Please be safe in your travel across the pond. BTW ... do they play movies for you or do you have to bring your own dvd player?

Yesterday I checked on WDW and heard that only the horticulture too some hits. No structural damages. AK has a way to gather all the animals into individual species "safe buildings". They use the same calling-in methods that they use to get them in for vet checks. DUH ... don't know why I didn't think of that.

Well work is calling again ...........

Sir Viking, I would love one of your cds. Germany & Paris are on my to visit lists. I'm shocked it only cost .01 to call. I had AT&T once who charged me .25 a min, a call to florida costed me over $50:rolleyes: Switched companys after that bill!

Thanks for the hurricane updates I don't even have to check their site, i just come here:)

Kim - I'd love to play scrabble, it's been along time but I think I remember how to spell;)

I made another List!!! :)

I've been sorting out my small collection of mp3s trying to come up with some music to play for the drive down and back while The Other Person in the van (who shall remain nameless) sleeps most of the way. I decided that there were too many to leave out so I went out an bought an mp3 player. I normally carry one copy of my back-up computer cds when we travel so adding a couple of hundred other cds wasn't too much of a stretch.

So List Number Two is:

1) CD case.
2) CD player and headphones.
3) Batteries.

I still haven't located the Elusive Tie after quite a number of minutes spent in intensive search effort. I'm pretty certain that I won't find It so I'm really leaning to not taking one. I think I have located a shirt that fits sort of but it's missing two buttons and I don't like the buttons that are on it right now and maybe its a tad tight around the belt so I'm not fussy about taking it with me and I have my dress shoes to round things out.

As for backgammon on Deck Nine, I think that the excitement factor could be cranked up a bit with the introduction of hockey sticks and a couple of bloody noses now and then. If you don't have any real equipment, four or five Pina Coladas will make anything exciting.

Jim.

Well, we are getting our little bit of Frances. From what I hear from a couple of sources, we had a tornado touch down in one of the outer areas of Charlotte. There has been a steady heavy rain all day. The area in front of the hospital is flooded, and one of the other nurses said her husband told her to be careful of the DEEP puddles on the way home.

Was glad to hear that the VB DVC resort will re-open this Friday, especially since we have reservations there after the cruise. Of course, you never know what Ivan will do, but I still have faith that he will leave FL alone. We haven't heard from my BIL's & SIL's who have homes on the barrier island at Vero Beach, but since they live about a mile away from the DVC resort, I am assuming that they didn't have too much damage (hopefully).

I am sure ready for this cruise!! Wonder where we will be going.

Just checked with the Radisson and it will be closed through the 8th of September and will start receiving guests again on the 9th. They did not sustain any major damage just a lot of debris lying around. All this is based on conditions now, barring any new hurricane damage from Ivan or other storms.

We might rethink the cookout at Jetty Park due to weather.

I know a few that could give us skin parents a lesson or two. As I type, I can see her spread out on her Old Navy bed. (When I die, either pamper me in the same manner as my fur kids or cremate me and sprinkle me on CC!)

Ave...I know this is scary but I will interpret Peter's message for you....he wants one of Eric's cd's and doesn't know if he is on the list already...Last year I needed an interpreter to read Peter's messages and now I can actually understand him....now I am really afraid...I really must be spending too much time at Bette and Kim's!! We love you Peter!!!

Hi Tulirose...we are going to miss you this cruise. Emmygramma lost both her daughter Amanda and her granddaughter Emma to a fire...both died of smoke inhalation. Sophie is the 3 month old granddaughter who is clinging to life. I just had a beautiful and touching note from Linda today and my heart just aches for them. She was going to be on the Panama Canal cruise with us until we had to cancel due to husband's job loss.

It has been a crazy few weeks around here...DH lost his job that he loved after 33 years....then he had to have a stress test and CT scan of his lungs because he was complainng of shortness of breath (all is well though..I attributed it to stress) and then the company declared bankruptcy which was the worst possible scenerio for all of the workers...no severence pay (due to Sam's longevity, he would have gotten around $22,000), no vacation pay for the 8 months that he worked this year and there is a very good possibility that his pension may be affected. The company hasn't funded it and the pension fund is a party to the bankruptcy claims court along with about 1000 other vendors. Never a dull moment and it has been hard to keep upbeat but I am sure trying since it is a situation that we have no control over. When I think about the troubles that EmmaGramma's family is having, my troubles are nothing. Can't wait to see everyone and in case you couldn't tell, we really need this cruise.

Back to school tomorrow for Sarah!!

Kim: Count me in on the scrabble, haven't played since I was in grade school, I think I still have my spinning board (I got it when they first came out).

Viking: Here's pixie dust to you and Anja on your hop over the pond. Travel safely and looking forward to meeting you soon.

I'm really scared now, I've never had a problem understanding Peter's posts, although occasionally, I'll have to read them twice. Seems I really fit in with you guys.

Here's wishing everyone blue skys and calm seas for wherever we may be!!

MaryJo: You guys have certainly earned this vacation. It was back to school today for Ciara and Adaria as well. YEAH!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Renee...I haven't been on the boards alot lately since it has been a rough 6 weeks...I actually just cancelled as of today...we were hoping that DH would get a nice severence package and I honestly couldn't justify taking money out of our savings to pay for this when I honestly don't know what the future holds. Sam has to go back to school to collect the extra 104 weeks of unemployment (he can collect this under NAFTA) and he is looking forward to this (go back to school...yuck would be my answer!) but between the news of the job loss and his heatlh scare, the stress was beginning to get to me and I am really trying to stay upbeat so DH doesn't get depressed but some days it is hard! It wasn't just the cost of the cruise ($6000) but I wanted to spend a few days at DL plus the airfare, car rental, transfers, tickets, etc and I don't want to go to DL and have to worry about spending money so I decided that I didn't need the added stress and the Panama Canal will be there when everything gets straightened out in our lives. Like I said, my problems are nothing compared to EmmaGrammy and the Florida residents.

Mary Jo it was good to talk to you today and have some gravy fries for us on friday. Sarah will be in school so you and the nameless one can have a big bowl of rice pudding and Sarah will not know about it.

Tell Sam to hang in there and better days will come his way.

Ave having the cellulitius is no fun, especially having to get the shots of antibiotics in the buttocks.

Two palms was back in operation today and the Radisson emailed me to say that they were operational again.

Peter & Ave',
you'll get CDs, too - even if I have to burn an 11th disk.

Rosemary,
we will arrive at MCO on 9/11, but will head for Crystal River right from the airport - no WDW for us this year. Would have loved to meet you.
We may have to change our plans and spend a night in the Orlando-area instead of going to Crystal River due to Ivan, but would then head to either Savannah or Charleston on 9/12.

Thanks for all the good wishes regarding our flight - We may need them :(

Folks,
the update tonight will be a very quick one as I will have to work on our contingency plans to cope with Ivan.
I already looked up some hotels north of Orlando and in Savannah at the office during lunchbreak, but still have to do the route-planning to get there, which will also take some time.

So please excuse in advance any mistake which will surely find their way onto the list due to the hurried preparation.

Rosemary, have a great time at WDW:teeth:

Mike and Kathy, we will miss you at the park (wondering if there still IS a park??!!) but very understandable. The mosquitoes are SO BAD here from all the rainy weather in S.C.

twhipple...Congrats on your docs! Nice to know DCL is still able to get them on their way. I was worried with no power, docs would be delayed.

May Jo...sorry you had to cancel your repo cruise:( but I'm sure it will be offered again. So glad Sam is OK.

So sorry to hear that Sam wasnt feeling well but glad to see that everything is allright. If Andy starts acting up he wont have to walk the plank...I'll push him off it...

Yup Mary,
but what's coming behind those clear skies is scary again:scared1:

I'll contact our dive-center tonight to inquire about us being able to dive on Sunday and Monday, but IMHO it doesn't look very promising. I don't intend to go to Crystal River when we can't dive. The town is so boring, that I don't intend to be stuck there in bad weather. We would then prefer to go to Savannah before going to Charleston, as there are plenty of indoor and outdoor sights to explore. We'll see, there is still the change that Ivan may stay in Cuba: Ivan is a Russian name and he may like it there :jester:

Ciadriamom -- Sent you a pm.

Woke up at 6 am this morning to tornado warnings, but nothing in Charlotte so far today. There were at least 22 tornados in SC & NC yesterday. I think the number was actually much higher -- that might be the number for just one state. More in SC than NC.
Lots of flooding, especially in the mountains.

Still haven't heard from my BIL & SIL who live year-round in Vero Beach. No one has heard from them since last Thursday, but we are assuming they are OK. The other BIL & SIL (who have a vacation home in Vero) got on to the island and it appears that both houses have had little or no structural damage. Screening around the pools is down and most trees are down. The missing BIL has a large wooded lot, and the other one said they would probably have to get a bulldozer or at least a bobcat to clear the land. All power lines are down and it is supposed to take at least 2 weeks before power is restored. Water has to be boiled. I'm amazed that the Disney resort is re-opening on Friday altho I guess I shouldn't be amazed since it's Disney after all! They probably have their own power plant, etc.

Our docs are in Germany:Pinkbounc
Unfortunately they're still in Cologne:sad2: which is about 120 miles northwest of Frankfurt. DCL shipped them 9/3 fully aware that we need them not later than 9/10:mad:
Nevertheless I had a very friendly CM on the phone, who provided me with a UPS tracking number.
After seeing on the web that the package's latest status was 'Departing Philadelphia' I called UPS Dispatch where I was told that it had just arrived in Cologne, their German hub. Delivery to our house will be between 0800 and 1030am tomorrow. If we're not at home they'll give it another try on Saturday -We will be at the airport on Saturday :scared1:
The dispatcher told me to call again tomorrow morning to have the package diverted to my company. I'll try that, but additionally I called my teamleader at home and he permitted me to come later, if necessary.
I'm near developing an ulcer :faint:

OK, I let off enough steam - Gotta work on The List now::yes::

I hope you're joking....but I have a feeling you're not! I just pray my namesake hurricane/storm does not take after me since I have a tendency to cause havoc wherever I go!
We also have tornado watches here in Raleigh until 7 p.m. this evening, but right now the weather couldn't be nicer. We've had a bit of rain lately, but not what you would call a storm. If we're lucky, it will rain tomorrow evening at 5pm and I can get out of my golf game since we all know how much I love (NOT!) golf!

Safe journies to all those who are traveling

MaryJo: so sorry about Sam.....I hope his pension is protected. I get so angry when I hear things like that because you know the CEOs never lose any of their assets. Eric: getting the docs should be the least of your worries.......if you don't receive them in Germany, call DCL when you arrive in the states and insist they overnight a duplicate set to the address where you will be staying. The way I see it, your major problem right now is getting the weather to cooperate and having contingency plans in place just in case it doesn't. You'll see....everything is going to work out.....don't worry too much....it ages you to the point you'll reverse all your hard work at exercising!

This sucks even more than Frances:

From our National News site cbc.ca

Ivan devastates Grenada, claims 9 lives

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA - The most powerful hurricane to hit the Caribbean in 14 years is churning toward Jamaica after leaving nine people dead and "incalculable damage" in Grenada.

Hurricane Ivan struck Grenada with "hellacious" winds overnight Tuesday, reducing concrete homes to rubble and knocking out electricity and water to thousands of people. The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency said Grenada's capital, St. George's, suffered "incalculable damage." The country's airport was damaged and St. George's main hospital and emergency disaster office were destroyed.

The Category 4 storm scored a direct hit on the country, hurling the island's traditional red zinc roofs through the air, uprooting trees, and knocking the country's broadcaster off the air.

There were also unconfirmed reports that the storm had damaged the country's prison, allowing inmates to escape.

There's more but this is just the Good News.

Jim.

But Back To the Other News

Don't know if this helps or not, but DCL rep told me today that the "official" damage report is moderate damage and they expect it to be repaired in the next week or so. Mmmm, don't know if that means it'll be done for 9/19 and of course she didn't have any answers. She may be a bit optimistic, but just maybe....

Glad to hear all our DIS friends in Flordia survived the ravages of Hurricane Frances.

Cathy, we were not lost, but we did spend an extended Labor Day weekend camping on the Jersey Shore. We were not exactly roughing it in our travel trailer so we did keep track of Frances on the cable TV available at the campground.

Unlike last year where we were among the last to receive our DOCS, we received them last Thursday for this years cruise.

The sale is this weekend and I have a TON of stuff!10 BIG boxs of stuff sorted and priced so far with lots more in the actic PLUS all the stuff we have been storing in the garage (living room set, book shelves, china cab. ect). I'm thinking if I only sell 1/4 of the stuff, I'll make about $300-500. It would be nice to make enough to pay for our Antiqua excurtion.

I tried to post earlier, but it got lost when I hit the post button.

MaryJo-- Hope Sam is feeling better. Sorry you had to cancel your repositioning cruise, but understand why you had to do it.

To Both MaryJo and Bette--- Thanks so much for your phone calls while I was recovering.

Dave-- (Cheeseplease) I thought it was Rain rain go away come again another day. I would never ask for snow to come as I hate snow and winter. Aren't you and Ellen now Empty Nesters.

Mary--- Good luck with the yard sale. I had one and it was to much work, so now I just give the stuff away to Good Will or put out for Big Trash Pickup.

Ave-- After working all those extra hours you will need the cruise to rest.

Hi Rosemary--- Enjoy your trip to WDW. Where are you staying at this trip? Are you ready for Survivor to start?

Peter--- I rolled up change while I was off only got $125 but I didn't do all the pennies. Like that would add alot.

You do have to feel so bad for all those people in the Caribbean. Their homes are so poorly constructed that the big bad wolf could blow them down let alone a hurricane. I am bringing my Caribbean Port of Call book with me since we could end up somewhere different.

I didn't do my shirts yet, but did buy them. Since my computer crashed my son put a new program for pictures that I am still trying to figure out. I have to wait to do the shirts after my Ice hockey coaching clinics are completed. I have sessions set up for 9/11 and 9/18. I have been spending the last week trying to get them organized since I was to sick to do it before. This is my final year with hockey. I tried to get out of finishing my term as 4th VP of the high school league, but they begged me to stay. But once May comes I am finished.

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Our documents came today. Of course I will do nothing with them until we are sitting in the hotel room on Friday night before our cruise. I just put it with all my other cruise stuff.

Mary--David has two shirts, both size 10. The blue oxford is "Arrow" label, and the white dress shirt is "Mark Jason" (this is the shirt he's wearing in our picture on the Cruisetoberfest site). You're welcome to both of them. They're in great condition. I can bring them with. Let me know.

I have to get David a size 12. And Heidi needs a new dress, too. Avé--did you find anything? I'm afraid to get it on eBay, it may not get shipped here in time. Also, with Heidi almost 13, she's between sizes. Sometimes she's a girl's 16, sometimes she's a junior, but the sizes run different depending on what she's trying on.

Eric--I checked out the hurricane names lists (I do this every year). My older daughter's name is Rebekah Raymond (Raymond is her married name). I noticed that in 2007, the Atlantic list has Rebekah (spelled the same), and the Pacific list has Raymond. Note to self: DON'T schedule a cruise in 2007 during hurricane season!!! :hyper:

The 0200 AST (0600 GMT) bulletin on Ivan now lists it as a Category 5 hurricane.

"RECENT REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NOW NEAR 160 MPH...255 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THIS MAKES IVAN A RARE CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE. SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN STRENGTH ARE LIKELY."

This one may not be a Spring Rain.

Jim,
additionally they adjusted the forecast again and now they're predicting that it will run across the Florida Keys and make landfall at the Southern tip of Florida and then head for the Atlantic. This makes it more probable that we can stick to our original plans going to the Westcoast north of Tampa first and then head for Charleston.
160mph is fast: I once did about 140 on a motorbike without a fairing and it nearly pulled the air out of my lungs. I just did it for a couple of minutes because it was too exhausting.

I'll post our stateroom# as soon as we have returned from the gym tonight, but I won't do another update for it. If you want it on your copies, you'll have to amend them manually.

No docs here yet but am still hopeful that they will arrive soon. I think we got them about 2 weeks before we left last year.

Missed the golf tournament at work yesterday afternoon but did get a lot of work accomplished which is a good thing. Am just trying not to get stuck at the office til late on the 28th trying to finish everything off. There is so much to do.

We are camping this weekend and I hope it clears up because right now it's raining really hard and has been all night -- the level in the pool is way up.

Feel so sorry for the people hit by all the hurricanes this year. It doesn't seem fair that they just keep coming.

Loved the email though Jill. That was funny.

Have to get ready for work but hoping to take tomorrow off to get stuff ready for camping.

Fiona -- know what you mean about the pool. Ours almost overflowed and what a mess that would have been. Luckily we had about an inch leeway before Sam was able to pump out the excess. Now the pool is all green again, and we had just spent several hours cleaning it up & doing the chemical thing. Sam has hardly used the pool this summer and he usually jumps in after work every day. I rarely go in myself. By the time we get back from the cruise (thinking positively), it will be time to close the pool for the winter.

I am going to wait until next week before I call my TA regarding our docs. Sure hope I get a call before then, tho.

Eric -- love the "handy" list. It is great. We truly appreciate all the hard work you have done for this cruise. So glad you got your docs!!! Can't believe you are leaving the day after tomorrow. It is going to be so much fun to meet everyone in person.

We are going to shut down our pool this weekend. Leaves are starting to fall and I do not want to have to deal with that mess.

Congratulations to all that have their documents. Mike

A little from Shirley & Norm from Perect Gift on why the port is closed ...

"As you all may have heard, the port is out of commission due to the sand at the port entrance - so many workers out of work due to this and we don't know when they will be dredging it open - to show you how hard the sand hit, our next door neighbor couldn't open her door due to the locks being closed with sand all through all the key holes to her door. The knob had to be broken off in order for her to get in - Norm and I went up to check the roof, which was damaged here at the condo, and found beach sand everywhere"

I wonder how long it will take to dredge out so the ships can get back in?

Alas ... We too are covering our pool this weekend. I can't believe we never really got to us it all summer except for 2 really brief swims I took!

Back to work ......

We are booked on the Octber 2nd Magic cruise. I am looking for a resort/hotel that has a day pass on Antigua. Someone on the cruise disboard said this thread had mentioned day passes on Antigua. Can someone tell me about that. Here are about 300 pages to scan on his thread, and afraid I will miss what I want to find.

Thanks,
Adelle

I checked my PMs before I read the thread and sent you a very strange PM back so don't worry about it. You're new magnets will be on the way tonight.

I'm expecting that the pool will be closed while we are away. At least we aren't the only ones who didn't really use theirs. It was such a yucky summer here.

A lot of leaves have already fallen off our cherry tree and the apples from our neighbour's crab tree are already starting to fall as well so we will have to rack when we return. The maple tree hasn't started to turn colours yet and I think last year it was almost November and we were still racking leaves. The crab apples are the worst though as they get gross and mushy.

Still raining here although it's supposed to be nice this weekend. The rain is the remenants of Frances so hopefully it won't last long.

Know where the magnets are and won't forgot them. No docts yet though.

My boss left for Florida yesterday...he wasn't going to go because of Frances and now Ivan (he is going to Ocala) but I told him that Florida really needed his tourist dollars so he should call and see if everything was ok where he was going and then go!! (Didn't tell him that I really wanted to get rid of him for a few days!!)

Lunch today with a friend and lunch tomorrow with GoofyNut! I really enjoy my "in-house" vacation that I don't even get charged for!!

GoofyNut...told Sarah that we were doing the Glider on Friday and I wish you could have seen the look on her face--kind of like a Baltimore moment. She said it is no fair that she has to eat crap for lunch at school and I'm going to have rice pudding. I kid her that I'm the only one gainfully employed now since hubby still hasn't received any unemployment checks and she told me that she is sick of hearing me say that!! Sam said he was depressed the other day and I kidded him that maybe I am missing a part of the picture but as I looked at it, he was still sleeping, the dog was still sleeping and Sarah was still sleeping and I had to get up at 6:00 am and go to work and he is depressed!! He just laughed! We just got a letter from the Ohio Bankruptcy court that the bankruptcy hearing for Techneglas is on October 22nd so maybe the courts will see that this company is pulling the wool over alot of peoples eyes..they owe 48 million to two banks in Japan (where their parent company is) and alot to the pension fund and I certainly hope that the American workers get first crack at their money...the parent company (NEG) is not offering any financial help to Techneglas so in my opinion, screw the Japanese banks!

Mary Jo - Hope that all goes well with the Bankruptcy Hearing. It really sucks that companies can mess with the pension fund. Here in Canada I believe that we have stricter laws with respect to pension funds but even the federal government wants to dip into the pension funds that they hold! I think they have to go to court to get permission to do it but it still happens anyway. We pay into a federal pension fund here which can be applied for when you turn 60 (if you want a lesser pension) or 65 (for the full pension). It's not very much though but everyone who works has to pay into the fund. It's also something that gets divided upon divorce. :p

Looks like the weather might be clearing up a bit which would be nice.

Lots of work here unfortunately.

Take care everyone and everyone stay healthy!!

Just went to walmart to finish up the last bit of vacation shopping....if anyone gets a cold, stomach ache, general belly problems, come see us...we'll have a mini pharmacy. I figure something will come along in the 3 weeks and I won't want to be stuck paying $15 for some sudafed! I just can't figure out how I spent $80 and it all fit in one walmart bag!

Looks like the Key West will be off our list for the 9/25 cruise...I was soooo wanting some Konch fritters!

Listen to this insane story that happened here in Ft Collins..

A girl was "car surfing", her two girl friends were driving the car and the "surfer" fell off, right on to her head causing major head trauma. Well, her friends keep driving but slow down to ask a pedestrian to call 911 (how nice).....and then they are gone. The injured girl has no ID, nothing....they are still trying to ID her, three days later. All they know is that the car had Wyoming plates. Absolutely disturbing....wait, the news just said they have id'd her...SHE IS 14!!!! Sad.

Vacations, on the other hand, will be a good thing!
