For the Beach party -- how many people plan on attending it? Does anyone want anything special?
Back to work -- which was fun but isn't fun anymore today. The financial partner is obviously looking at account receivables etc. If I could do accounts while my secretary was away I still wouldn't do them. I don't have the program on my computer. :p I think I know why I vacation in October because from now til the end of the year all he will think about is the bottom line. Yuck. All accounts will be in by the end of the year, take it or leave it. And yup my secretary does deserve her holidays and don't bug her about accounts when she comes back. Sorry, vent over.

We did cabana massages on our honeymoon. It is certainly nice, but it is up for grabs whether or not it is worth the $300+ price tag. Ours was worth it, but it is not something we would put on the top of our list of doing again.
Has anyone been watching the Olympics? I thought it was flat out amazing that Hamm pulled through to win the gold in the mens all around gymnastics. It was awesome!
Ok, gotta go. I am sure Copper is peeing on the carpet

Talking about the Beach Party: Will anyone try to coordinate the shopping/planning? I would put you on theh Activity List then.
I see the danger of us ending up with mountains of food, but no beer or vice versa ;)
We'd bring a carton of beer - American brew of course. I hope you don't expect us to bring the real stuff from Germany and lug it across the South for three weeks:crazy: If anyone wants to have a German beer, that's no problem - The beer is on us, but the airfare is on you :drinking1
And Anja and I have been wondering for a long, long time about your affection for roasting marshmellows over a bonfire. We have never tried it, but would love too. We've seen it in so many movies: Just recently we watched 'Dennis, the menace' starring the one and only Walther Matthau, where Dennis shoots a burning marshmellow in the closing scene on Mr Wilson's forehead:rotfl:

Eric-
You have heard of S'mores, right? Roasted marshmallows and chocolate in a grahm cracker sandwich? It is a camping must have dessert! The roasted marshmallows alone are great...however, they must be perfectly browned to create a crispy brown coating over the gooey melted center. It's okay if it catches on fire...just don't let it get charred! It truely is an art form;) !

We are also glued to screen for the time being, we watch Olympics in the gym while doing our Cardio routine and then at home til we go to bed - So my backlog of DVDs is piling up even more;)

Eric, George says he will make a "camp" fire in our backyard the night you and Anja come for dinner, so we can roast marshmellows and make S'mores!
A tailgate/beach party sounds like a blast! Not knowing the area,I'm not sure where we could do it. Maybe Shirley (at the Perfect Gift) could suggest a place?
Last year Ave and I had a get together poolside at the Radisson. We had light snacks and beer and wine. It was nice because there is a bar close by for different/additional beverages, restrooms, music, as well as a place to go if the weather is poor. Also people can come and go to/from rooms as needed, and the kids can swim while we chat. Ave and I would be happy to do this again this year. I will be stopping at the grocery store before getting to the port, and can pick up the items we need.
Another possiblity is to do this at Ron Jon (if RJ allows non guests on the property??)
Marianne...how are you doing? I've been thinking about you.
Nanncy (PADisneyFan) I hope you are feeling better and can post soon. You are missed!
I am bummed about Grills! I thoght it would be the perfect place to have a get together. But I do NOT want to spend 2 hours waiting for a table while my kids (who will be too excited to sit still) drive me crazy! Thanks for the heads up on the situation!

The beach at the Ron Jon resort is actually a block or two behind it and therefore I believe it is public property. There may be regulations, however, about actually cooking on the beach. Some places don't permit it.
If I try to get into the 11:30 parasailing, will I miss lunch at Serenity Bay? (Heaven forbid I should miss a meal!) I don't want to have to deal with the crowds at Cookies.

This sounds good to me.
Also, since we have to go to Walmart or Target to pick up diapers, we can pick up a little grill that we can toss (if you don't have one of these, Jim) after our beach party so we can cook hamburgers, hotdogs and toast marshmellows. What does everyone think?

The beach party sounds like it will be great fun.....much better than Grills (and cheaper too!). If there were no penalty for changing the time of our tickets, we'd be tempted to do it. HOWEVER, since the beach party was my idea to begin with, I've got dibs on any leftover s'mores!

You're kidding, right:confused:
Ahhh, the pet drama continues....Copper (the pup) has been doing ok today with the whole "I am supposed to go potty outside" thing, but now our cat, Macy (whose tail Copper has recently discovered much to Macy's dismay) is afraid of her litterbox. I just got her a new LitterMaid today (her third), but she hasn't had one in about 6 months. It has her freaked out. So I am now concerned that she will join the pup in the bathroom habits.
Someone please tell me kids will be easier to potty train.

We'd love to join you guys for the beach party, but we'll be getting in late as well and staying at MCO -- have an extra adult beverage for me.
My dd Ciara would love to do the glass bottom boat ride, but believe it or not I have an intense fear of water (go figure) and that's just a little to close for comfort.
If anyone would like to escort her, I'd gladly pick up the tab.
Thank you and looking forward to meeting you guys soon!
Sharon, Sent you a PM.

WOW!
The Beach Party sounds like a blast! Unforunately, I won't be there. Instead I'll be spending the evening at EPCOT eating my way around the world at the Food and Wine Festivale and topping off the night with Illuminations.
I think I'm a walking ZOOMBIE. I've been glued to the TV watching the Olympics. (I need to do what Eric is and do a cardio workout and watch) I am so proud of Michael Phelps! He is the hometown boy making it big. Cover of Time, cover of Sports Illustrated and front page of The Baltimore Sun with every medal won. The first gold he won I was in tears watching him and seeing the American flag being raised and hearing the National Anthem being played. The National Anthem was written right here in Baltimore by Frances Scot Key during the War of 1812 while he was being held prisioner aboard a British War ship with Fort McHenry in view.
A few pages back someone (sorry can't remember who) about what was everyone doing in Antigua. My sister and myseld are signed up for the Dolphin and Stingray excursion.
I'm so proud of myself. I put the t-shirt design into a word document was able to adjust the size and reverse the image. All this from someone who just barely knows how to turn the computer on.
Bye for now

Wow! The beach party sounds great! I wish we could be there. We won't even be doing anything so great as eating our way through EPCOT! Our "furbaby"sitters won't be able to move into the house until the 1st. We will be tucking ourselves in in Valdosta, GA about 8p.m. Think anyone will be making s'mores there? I made my T shirt last night!!!! I was so excited I took it to my neighbors house to show them (Tim was working) and then I had to start the whole explaining process....."The DIS is...." "Cruistoberfest is......" "Well, no, I didn't know them before this, yes, we'll be careful...."
But the T turned out great (So far, still need to wash it for the first time!) I made the Mickey logo a 5x7 size and put that in the front, then I kept Goofy the same size and put him on the back. It turned out great!

Peter and Jen..CUTE HOUSE!!!My DH has a 1966 Ford Pick up! He LOVES it. We call it the Jurasic Ford (he even has a dino on the hood like a hood ornament!) He dreams of doing a full restoration job on it one day, but since he drives it to work everyday, I don't see that happening anytime soon!
I just "test" printed a logo and I am off to Wal-Mart to get transfer paper and ink!

Well, I may have spoken too soon about that dang T shirt. I just took it out of the washer and the back design is all cracked. The front turned out OK so far, but I think they really mean "NO STEAM" when ironing. I had the iron off steam, I thought, but when I was doing the back, it was steaming some. So, we'll see what the end result is. I'll be off the the mall to get another T shirt maybe.
Peter and Jen...your house is beautiful!! I miss neigborhoods like that! In Cleveland, I grew up in the same house my mom did....it was a beautiful old home. Here in Fort Collins, 90% of the houses are "subdivisions" and I can tell you where most of my neighbors bathrooms are without ever being in the house....they either have one of the models, or it is our floor plan. Wait....almost all the houses are beige, too! (But I do love our house, despite all that!)

Peter & Jen: Love the pic of the house. So cute!
Beach Party is sounding better and better. I'm bring soft drinks, catsup, mayo, mustard and relish.
Jill, Too funny about your nieghbor warning you about us. But you are NOT the first newbie to get worried looks and advice from friends and family. I think we have all experienced it in some way, shape, or form.
When I tell people that a couple from Germany are coming to PCB for a visit, and that we met through the Internet, and then on the Cruise, I get some strange reactions. But meeting people online is just as safe or dangerous as going to any social gathering.
I just stick with my first thought. If you are going to be on a ship for a week with 3000 strangers, you may as well get to "know" a few of them before you go.:wave2:
Nancy from PA: Are you doing OK? :sunny:

I just check out USAirways' website for our inflight movies. We' ll have:
13 going on 30
Shrek 2
Miracle
LoTR: Return of the King
Hidalgo
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Cold Mountain
The Airbus A330 we're flying with is equipped with Video-on-Demand even in coach, which is our main reason for flying USAir.
I guess I will watch 13 going on 30, Shrek 2, Hidalgo and perhaps
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I have seen Shrek 2 and Harry Potter only in German so far, but I'm especially looking forward to seeing Shrek 2 with the original voices.

Viking: Travel safely and hopefully everything will work out. You're welcome to stay in NJ if you can't get a flight home.
Jill: I feel your pain. I'm in the process of moving out of a two bedroom apt to a four bedroom house, getting the kids ready to go back to school, working full time, and still caring for my grams.
I'll be easy to spot at the terminal, I'll be the one with the two carry-on bags under my eyes.

We close on our new smaller home in 2 1/2 weeks. We have to move from a 6-bedroom, 5 bath, LR plus Fam RM and a full finished basement to a 4-bedroom, 3 bath home, no LR, and unfinished basement. The really scary part is that our present home is still not officially on the market since we were waiting to get all the kids out. I don't know where to put everything, especially since the kids don't want me to throw out any of their "stuff". My youngest moved to college this weekend and his older brother returned to LA today. We should begin showings tomorrow which means if DH sees me doing this instead of cleaning, I'm dead meat! Gotta take a break....... I hope we're not carrying 2 homes for too long....that plus the bridge loan.....Momma mia! Don't know which home we'll be living in at the time of the cruise......think I'm gonna choose the "Don't Worry, Be Happy" shirt! Gotta go!
PS...love your house, Peter and Jen! very charming and picturesque......

Bette,
please name one major American airline, which is not nearly bancrupt: i.e. American, United & Delta are also on the verge of going down. They're all customers of my company and we feel it every day.
But US Airways just recently joined the Star Alliance, which may bring a lot of synergy effects and help them along.
Additionally we have a law here in the European Union requiring every travel agency to carry insurance against bankruptcy of airlines, hotel, etc to ensure protection of the consumers. Of course in the end the customers pay the premium for that insurance. Sometime next week, when we pick up the tickets at our TA, we will nevertheless ask him - We don't intend to be stranded in the USA.

jeanneg....We also will be moving in the next 6 mo or so. I have been making my family watch the TV show "Clean Sweep". We will be having a yard sale next month and ANYTHING we do not wish to pack up and move to Fl is being sold. I look at it as awonderful opportunity to get rid of anything old or worn out. If I have not looked for it, or needed it in 1 year it's "out'a here"!
When my parents moved out of the home they lived in for 20 years and raised all 8 of their children in, the attic was FULL of the older kids (who had long since moved out) stuff. Mom called everyone and told them there stuff would be thown out or sold unless they came and got it by the time we had the yard sale.Everyone came and pick up the items that were important to them, the rest was sold or tossed! BE STRONG!(If all else fails put the stuff in storage)

Happy birthdays Cathy & Mike. Hope you had great ones.
Love the show Clean Sweep. I've often wondered what the rest of their house looks like.
When my brother got married he left tons of boxes behind. We were cleaning out and I decided that they were going so when they were coming for dinner I had DS put all boxes on the dining room table. (There were about 30 or so). DB walked in and I said clear it so we can eat -- sounds brutual but my DB would never have taken the stuff otherwise. What was funny was that DSIL's parents were coming for dinner and DSIL went to pick them up. Well DSIL wasn't too thrilled and spent an hour crying to her mother about how unfair it was. She didn't get much sympathy though because her mother just said that we should have done it long ago as she had made my DSIL take everything when she got married!
Monday morning and back to work. Before we know it we will be on the Magic.

Happy Birthdays Cathy & Mike!!
I haven't been unable to get into my computer at home since Saturday morning when I tried to install an update from MSN. I have been locked out ever since then. Spent about 4 hours total trying to get thru to MSN. Finally got thru Sunday morning, found out that they had sent me a MSN-9 update when I have MSN-8 & just as the tech support guy was about to tell me how to fix it, the line went dead. Called back again and got a message that they were too busy to answer calls -- just call back later. I couldn't even get put on hold again. So now I have to figure out what to do.
I couldn't wait to get to this board -- especially now that the cruise is getting so close. Being a part of this group makes the cruise even more exciting than it was before. Can't wait to meet everybody!

Sharon,
we're usually doing one big city every year, but so far we stayed in Europe (i.e. London, Paris, Berlin, Munich). Perhaps we're doing a week in the Big Apple next year. Let's talk about it on the ship.

Eric, I hope you get to visit New York one day. It is a fantastic city, unlike any other.Although I have not lived there in 20+ years I will always consider it my "home". Lucky for me I have 3 siblings who live there and can visit often!

Our 100 metre hurdler just fell in the race that she had a really good shot at winning a gold. :( She's from Pickering so everyone was rooting for her. It was really sad to see her face when she ran into the hurdle. An American won but I can't remember her name.
Our baseball team just lost to Cuba so we will have to play Japan for the bronze medal.
Just waiting for the cruise 'cause today has been full of really dumb questions like "my clients have already paid for the upgrades so could you change the adjustments to show this -- me -- ah there is a deposit showing it if you go down 3 lines" "Oh yeah there is".

jeanneg...I grew up in Hicksville Long Island. One of my sisters works at NYU (head psych nurse) and lives just 1 block from the hospital.I have 2 brothers on L.I. one in Copique and one in Roslyn. So I get to see them all when I visit. Having a sis in the city gives me a great excuse to spend at least one day doing the "city" stuff.
Speaking of NYC, one of my docs is going to NYC while I'll be on the cruise. I helped him get Lion King tickets on line last week.
Documents should be here soon. I picked up the guys tuxs from the cleaners this weekend, found a tux shirt on E-Bay for DS (for 2.99 what a deal!) and got new tires on the car. I have dental appt. made for the week before we sail, but still have to get an eye exam and extra contact lenes for the trip.
Everyone remember to pick up any medications you may need, and have your cars (if driving) checked out before hitting the road! A frind is going to house-sit, so the worry of finding someone to look after the animals is taken care of.
Helpful Hint of the day...Make a list of ALL the things you will have to do before the trip, then pick the things that can be done well ahead (like drycleaning or car tune up) and do a few things each weekend from now until end of Sept. This makes for a far less stressful week prior to leaving home (which will be busy enough!)
Ave, BOTOX!!!???I hope she takes you to to Ft Lauderdale! But make her "learn" on someone else....or is that your role (guinee pig)in Ft Lauderdale??!!

Jeanneg, I was born and bred in Brooklyn. I went to High School in lower Manhattan, right across the street from police headquarters. Up until four years ago, I still worked in the City. Just couldn't take the 2 1/2 hour each way commute anymore.
But, I'm back there every weekend, taking care of Gram so I never really left.

Our New York experience is similar to Fiona's & Jim's: In '95 we were on a direct flight from Frankfurt to Orlando with Delta and flew over NYC in about 40,000 feet with perfect visibility. It was so great that we could make out the Statue of Liberty and some more details. And last year when I switched planes in Newark enroute to Denver I also had a great view of the skyline and Lady Liberty.
Ave,
you're just kidding about Botox, aren't you
Talking about Johnny Depp: Did you know that his last name means 'Moron' in German - No kidding!! And after I have seen him at Jay Leno's show, I must say, there is a grain of truth in it ;)
Fiona,
I've seen that fall of your hurdler. Unfortunately she also made a Russian fall, which led to a protest of the Russian team, but to no avail.
cdnmickeylover
08-25-2004, 11:12 AM
Eric -- it was an awful fall that she had especially as she took out the Russian with her. There was a picture of her sitting in between a hurdle on the front page of the paper this morning. Similar to the picture of the Gail Devers (?) sitting under the hurdle after she had a leg injury. It's so sad to see athletes who have worked so hard have something so awful happen to them like that no matter what country they are from.
Just waiting for October to come. Can't come quick enough at this point.

With about 30 days to go, you would still have enought time to get one.

I hope the people at DCL got the linking of our ressie OK. I'm still not very comfortable about handling a cruise without DU, but what else should I have done with a free cruise ;)
Since Monday the first thing we do when coming home is a curious look into our mailbox - Are there any docs or a notification from FedEx. For Cruisetoberfest I they sent it via FedEx and we had to pick it up at their facility - about 15 miles from our place, becasue we were running out of time. For Cruisetoberfest II we picked them up at the Terminal. For this year's cruise DCL swore a holy oath to have them delivered well before 9/11.
I'll post the usual Happy Dance as soon as we get them - Or I'll have to invest in another long distance call, if they're not here before 9/6 ;)

Mary,
I saw on another thread that there are a lot of people complaining about the TV-coverage of the Olympics in the US, because obviously your TV-stations have the motto 'If there are no chances for Americans winning medals, we won't show it'.
Our stations over here put about half their broadcasting time onto our athletes, but use the remaining half to cover everything else to give the people a broader view. IMHO that's what Olympics are for.
cdnmickeylover
08-26-2004, 07:27 AM
Cathy -- funny you should mention that as this weekend I'm putting all the paperwork we have for the cruise and vacation together so that it doesn't get lost. I know where the passports are though. Good thing too as here to get a birth certificate at the moment is taking months, literally. Nobody is quite sure why but the wait time has gone from like 10 days to in some cases 10 months!!
The Olympic coverage here is pretty uneven although with fewer athletes competing Canadian TV does tend to show other than Cdns although that is the focus.
We are leaving a month from Sunday yeah!!!

How many weeks vacation are you taking Eric? we have a hard time taking more than 7 days in a row:( what major cities are you touring?
Viking
08-26-2004, 09:07 AM
Maryellen,
we're taking four weeks. The only major city we're touring is Charleston, but I guess we'll also do some sightseeing in St. Augustine. We already did a week in London in April and ten days at the Baltic Sea in June. After Florida/Cruise Anja's vacation days are used up, but I still have two left.
We'll depart for the States on 09/11 and return on 10/10, but will start work again at 10/12, to work off that jet/lag and do grocery shopping. We'll empty our fridge and freezer before the vacation - There's no use in having it run for more than four weeks without anybody using it, so we'll have to stock it up completely after our return. The only device still connected to mains in our appartment will be the VCR recording our favourite shows. Fortunately I belong to the extremely small minority being able to program a VCR - often even without a manual. My brain must be as twisted as that of the manufacturers.;) :p

DH rented a tux, and I am going basic black on the dresses....I have one that is long and one that is short. I'm like Tracy. Don't dress up much around here!

I've got to admit I am excited about going formal! We don't have occasions to get dressed up very often (NEVER!) so I am wearing a long formal, DH a tux and then a long black dress (DH picked out) and he will be in a black suit for semi. It is ALL about comfort at every other meal though! I'm thinking of wearing a wheel barrow and potato sack!
Is it normal to get docs so early? DH keeps asking and the DCL rep I called last week (ordering up a few extra surprises for DH) said 2 weeks out. I just started our suitcases and getting with niece and nephew to iron out house and pet sitting arrangements and DH is going crazy checking the mail! Plus, on top of looking for docs, our yearly evals at work (which have been put off 3 times already) are now scheduled for 3 days prior to our vacation. If our 4 legged partners don't pass first time (they have bad days just like us humans!) we have to retest - which puts us VERY close to our departure date! STRESS has arrived!:faint:

I got a new formal dress for formal night. Jim will wear a suit. I've asked him to check to see if the pants still fit but well hey we have a month to go so it's too soon to see. Actually he probably is not sure where the suit is hanging up -- can you tell he doesn't wear suits on a regular basis? He is so relieved we aren't doing Palo as it's one less time to wear a suit.
We actually do have one charity ball that we have to attend in November of each year as one of my clients is a major sponser. One word for this evening is boring, food average and we are crushed into the ballroom for dinner. All this for $250/person (which thankfully the firm pays for cause there's no way I'd pay $500 for dinner).
Anyone needed a new dress for that event as it's the same people and yup they seem to remember what you wear year to year so am bringing it to wear formal night. Might even convince Jim to get a picture this year (would have to be prior to dinner as by the end of dinner his tie will be off and his shirt unbuttoned).
It's Friday thankfully. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:
Funny for me this morning -- two different clients are buying properties. Both asked if they had to bring in $ and if they didn't bring it in til later today would that interfere with them getting their keys. Oh well yeah!!!
It's been a long week but the cruise is creeping closer.

What four-legged partners? Did I miss something:confused:
:scared1:  :faint: :crazy2: These are the different stages Anja & I went through after opening our mailbox upon our return from the gym. Here comes the explanation:
We live in a former American housing area, which was bought by the City of Frankfurt when the majority of GIs left after the Reunification of our country. As Anja works as a nurse at a hospital which is completely owned by the City, we qualified for getting one of those appartments at a very reasonable rent. As those appartments are kind of subsidized they check from time to time wether we still meet the requirements for paying that relatively low rent. The first years we were considered newly-weds and qualified, but now that's over and we have to pay an additional rent of €169 ($204) per month :sad2: But the 'best' is yet to come: The letter states that this raise started at 02/01/04:scared1: So we have to pay them €1183 ($1430) immediately and €169 monthly starting 09/01:faint:
My parents who got a similar appartment, because my Dad is a federal employee, have been paying this amount now for 10+ years. So I checked it with my Mom, scrutinized all the calculations and guess what: Everything is correct - I HATE SURPRISES LIKE THAT!!!!
We wouldn't have complained if they had sent the letter in time. Say in January with the payments starting in February, but not that way. Additionally they sent that friggin' letter on a Friday, so that you can't call them and complain before Monday!!!
The money we will be paying is going to be used to support people who can't afford decent appartments otherwise or to build new subsidized houses. I do think that this is OK, as we have quite good salaries - but their timing SUCKS
OK, I just needed to vent a bit ;) The big venting will come Monday - when I call those bureaucrats.:teeth:

But her's some good news:
We scored big time in Athens today and should now have overtaken or friends to the West (For those of you not so firm in European geography: The French) in the medal-count:thewave:
And while we were at the gym running we watched the handball-semifinals: Our boys desintegrated the Russians and will now play the finale against Croatia on Sunday. It was very close in teh first half, but coming back from the lockerrooms our boys threw in a higher gear and humiliated the Russians. Now we can try to make good for last year's defeat in the World Championships, where the Croatians gained a victory.
For those of you not knowing what I'm talking about (I guess handball is as popular in the USA as baseball in Germany ;) ), it's a teamsport with six man + goalkeeper per side. The ball is smaller than a volleyball, but heavier. The game is even quicker than basketball, but harder as bodycontact is allowed - within limits of course. It is very popular in Europe.

Formal nights..don't know what I'll be wearing yet. I like the black skirt/blouse idea. Did basic black last year. DH will wear the same suit. (It's the same one he wore when we got married 15 years ago.) We just keep changing the shirts and ties.:p
We will probably hit the consinment shops in the next week or two to find DD something.
Eric...SO Sorry about your rude rent raise! So much for all your budget planning!:( Would not like to be the person you talk to on Monday!
Just found someone to watch my animals while we cruise. A good friend of mine has been looking for a new place to live and will be "homeless" for a few weeks. She will be staying with friends, but, will gladly stay at our house while we are gone. Big Plus, she works just 3 miles down the road.
Just got a call from my new boss at job #2. Looks like I'm working Sat. and Sun. 7A-3P. I should know better then to answer the phone on a Friday afternoon. Oh well, more money for the cruise.
Get well soon Nancy! We miss you.

I figure that when Canada abolished hanging there was no real logical reason to put tight things around one's neck.
I also made up my packing list:
1) Socks.
2) Underwear.
3) Stuff.
It just struck me that I don't really know where The Tie is at this current moment in time unfortunately.

Tracy,
there's no chance to make them waive it:sad2: It's a governmental agency
But I'll tell them that I'm only willing to pay it in three payments. Usually they're satisfied with deals like that. I could also play dumb and just write them a letter asking for this. With the usual snake-like speed of German bureaucrats they'd probably need six weeks or more to reply, but that would only let more payments pile up.
We have to see it positive: Usually the exemption for newly-weds is only valid for the first 7 years of marriage, but as we were married for 10.5 years in February we were granted 3.5 years without paying that amount, which results in savings of €7098 ($8520) ;) But I guess they didn't mean to give us a gift, it just superannuated because they were simply too slow to do their job properly.

They have shrunk considerably since the last time I wore them.
The jacket fits o.k. I even found a whole pocket full of candy, which was o.k. as long as you picked off the fluffy bits.
No sign of The Tie.

OK Folks,
I just transferred everything you sent me so far onto The List, will do your mails-to-come and the Activity List tomorrow after the Fest.
Before the Fest we'll pick up our tickets and car voucher at our TA's office. The lucky guy went on vacation today - Three weeks in Portugal. I hope he can enjoy it, because he's introducing his friend to the parents. His problem is: The friend he wants to introduce is his boyfriend and his parents don't know about his sexual orientation yet. They're Portugese and very catholic, so I don't envy him for that situation. He's an old friend of ours and he even needed some time to come out among his German friends, so it won't be easy on him.

Eric,
Alright!!! You got me , what can I say...
I can join you in the money issues you are having, yesterday my now former boss came to sign all the legal papers selling the laboratory to my new boss (who is great) and I asked him when he was mailing my vacation check as we leave in a month, I had $2800.00 owed to me, the former owner is responsible for all debts prior to yesterday, and my former boss said has no intention of paying me anything... Just great, another fight with a idiot coming up... However my new boss who is great said they of course plan on paying me for 2 weeks in October and 2 weeks in May, so I will have a paid vacation but no $$$$ for playing with.
I am sooo glad it is Friday.

We already started checking the classifieds (I hope that's the correct term) to check for a new appartment. We won't pay less on the open market, but we hope to get a better appartment at a similar price in the €800 to 1000-range (Current rent of €600 + €169 ~ ),
We want to stay close to our gym, because it is the best in town. I guess it may take 6 to 12 months to find something which suits us perfectly, but we've got all the time we want. And I'd love to have something with a garage for our car and the bike. Additionally it must be close to the subway as Anja is still reluctant to get her driver's license.

We just recently bought a house and we were to move in by the end of sept. well atleast i thoughts! our street has been under construction since june and when we called the city to see if it would be done in time for us to move they told us either we move in the next 4 days or we wont be able to move til the last week of sept. so we now have to pack and move our 5 bedroom house by wednesday. thankfully the previous owners are allowing us to move in early. the worst part of it all is that all of our family lives out of town and my parents who live the closest to us are in New york. omg stress time. anyways now we wont be on for a few days as the computers are being moved on sunday and we wont have internet til wednesday.

Chris & Denise,
now I got it - You're both K-9!!! Law enforcement & furry partners:idea:
We live in Frankfurt, about 2 miles from the city center in a former American housing area. The Americans were pretty well integrated into the city. With the Rhein Main-Airbase and the 97th General Dispensary there were quite a lot of them here. The hopital is still standing, but deserted. Some of the housing areas got demolished, with new units or commercial buildings erected on them, some have been taken over by the City (Like ours), some by the State, some by the Federal Government and some sold off to private investors.
As far as I know, there aren't any American housing areas left in Frankfurt, except a very small one near the airport, because the airbase is a major hub for the war in Iraq. Although we decided not to be part of this, we honoured our duties as an ally and allowed full use of the airbase for logistical use. Each time I'm at the airport the southern part is packed with C-5As and C-17s. On the way to/from work I pass under the final approach corridor to the airport and I often see them coming in - and you definitely HEAR them departing over our house in certain weather conditions. A Galaxy always sounds like one of the mechanics has forgotten some of his tools in the engines ;)

Especially as Anja is recovering from a cold (She called in sick Tuesday and Wednesday). And tomorrow we probably won't have time as we want to see the Formula1-race in Belgium (While running about 10 miles on the treadmill, of course::yes:: ) and after that's it's the handball-match for the Gold - And we certainly won't miss the closing ceremony of the Olympics. We already missed the opening as we were on a party then. I programmed the VCR, but our broadcasting station goofed big time. In Germany a lot of broadcasting stations send a so-called VPS-signal, which makes the VCR start and stop. This comes in especially handy with events having an open end. They sent the start signal, but accidently sent the stop-signal 10 minutes later. They apologized the next day in Videotext, but I guess I have to buy a DVD-summary of the Olympics after our vacation.

Geez...just missed one day and there is alot of catching up to do....
On the Formal note: I decided against a red slinky formal dress...it is first piece of clothing that is actually too long for me and I felt like I was wearing a night gown. And I feel much more comfortable in two black dresses that I got earlier this year. Tim is wearing a black suit.
We too are still waiting for our docs...I am using the theory that they will be here Monday, as our 9/25 docs arrived last Monday and the 10/02 is one week after.....ok, so not such a great theory, but it keeps me going.
Yesterday was my 31st birthday and we headed down to Denver to see the 75th Anniversary Mickeys that are on display. We only saw about 6 of the 16 that are here....we got a late start and dinner was calling our names! They'll be here through late Oct, so we'll make a trip down there again. Finally, my MIL got me a gift that I like! Disney Dollars and Eeyore PJ's and slippers! (I just keep wanting to tell her "imagine you are buying a gift for a 6 year old!") Funny thing is, my mom got me THE SAME EXACT GIFT! We are getting hooked up with the Disney Dollars....over $500 between our anniversary and birthday gifts and our Disney Visa! Helps with the finances just a bit!
Goodness it is getting so close...and I still have no dog sitter for Copper! I am going to have to bribe my parents somehow to watch him......but they live in a smaller house, and they already have a dog and 2 cats, add Orion and Copper (who isn't fully house trained yet:( ) and you have a zoo for 3 weeks.

The storm did spring up pretty fast, but we have been watching it for a few days. 3 out of 4 weekends this month have been marked with tropical storm systems! And of course next weekend we will be impacted in some way (as yet to be determined) by Frances.
Formal clothes....DH will be wearing his Tux, DS also has a tux. I am doing the black beaded cocktail length dress, with different shoes /purses/ wraps for each formal night. DD will need a dress which I will be shopping for tomorrow (weather permitting;) )
Eric, got the list...Thanks again for all your hard work on it. As a former list keeper, I know how much work it is.
Jill (Adams) best of luck with your move. Let us know when you are back on line.
Jill and Tim...please be prepared for questions from my DD. She is a dog nut(all animals really) and will probably want to ask you about your 4-legged partners!
Peter and Jen....got my fingers crossed you are able to get a spot on the Eco-tour
Happy Birthday Jill!!!princess:

Mary,
we're keeping our fingers crossed for you.
We saw that storm system east of the Carolinas last night on the satellite image and wondered that it wasn't named yet. And then this morning it popped up as Gaston - But meanwhile it has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression.
It's Frances I'm worried about: It has just been upgraded to a 4!!
That is scary:eek:

Ooops,
that was obviously a bit early:I just checked the NOAA-site again and now Gaston is back and may even reach hurricane strength before hitting the SC-Coast :(
Our thoughts are with you ::yes::
Gotta catch some Zs now
PS:
Congrats on your girls winning the Basketball Gold:cheer2:

Eric -- Just took a look at the latest lists -- thanks again for all your hard work! I thought UGotMeal was funny when you told us that you gave that name to our dinner group (the former No Name Table), but seeing it in bright fuschia on the list is absolutely hysterical!!! I am still laughing.
Good luck to our SC friends -- hope the storm moves away and out to sea. There sure are a lot of tropical storms and hurricanes around this month. Hope that means that all will be smooth sailing for us in October.

The storm is hitting right now, and I am going nuts because of course the cabel is out:mad:
Of course I can't find the darn radio!
Wind is whipping pretty strong and the animals can't understand why I will not let them out!

Thinking about you Mary and hopefully the cable won't be out too long!! Your animals want to go out? Our dog wouldn't want to go out at all -- she's be shaking on someone's lap if there was a storm outside. Rain she hates. Course a blizzard she might be out there.
Happy Birthday Jill!!
Kim & Bette -- Are you sure about that stateroom number??

Good luck to those of you who are moving- you"ll need a cruise to destress:D
Happy Birthday to Jill & Tracy:cake: I love the presents! Eyeore slippers I don't think I've ever seen them, how amazing to get the same presents - they must really know you;)
Thanks Eric for the lists - awesome! Sorry about the rent issue, how great they give newlyweds such a deal for 7 years. Your festival sounded great sorry the weather did not cooperate:umbrella:
All these tropical storms have got to stop - we've had enough already! The weather here is hot & humid, I think swimming will be on the agenda for today:D
On the formal issue - I'm also wearing black, it's going to look like a funeral:p I'll have to look into dh's closet(1/8 of mine) to see what his chooses are, I know he will not be a happy camper. Last year I had to cancel Palo ressies as he refused to dress up:( I also need to find something for ds- yikes I better start working!
Dh's birthday will be our Antigua day - any ideas on what I can do to make it fun fun fun:jester:
Only 33 days till be leave yippie:Pinkbounc

Hi All you lucky souls who are going on the tour of St. Thomas,
Just a quick memo, if anyone wants to back out ( hopefully not) of going on the tour please let me know by September 1, 2004. We have a waiting list so I want to give those people a chance to join in. Right now we are totally full!!!
1) $ 20.00 per person over 2 yrs old.
2) Lunch is at a local pub, no credit cards accepted, cash only...
3) After September 1st if you need to cancel ( hope not) then if we can not fill your space unfortunately you will still need to pay, the bus costs us a lump sum so we have no fidget room...
4) Very important.... be prepared to have a fun day with a great bus load of Disers !!
5) Most important, do not forget your signed permission slip by a parent or legal guardian. If you forget your permission slip you will have to spend the day in your cabin watching re-runs on TV of The Flying Nun....
Bye, Kim
Mary batten down the hatches and hold on tight girl. We are thinking about you.
Did anyone get a final count on the jetty park cookout? Mike

Mary,
we're feeling with you ::yes:: We just checked out the storm on the satellite-feed and seemed to be right over you:( Take good care of my iPod:p
Having ridden out Tropical Storm Harvey on Treasure Island in '99 we know how scary it can be.
But I'm even more in sorrow about Frances, which is said to become a FIVE this afternoon. It's a) headed for Castaway Cay, and b) may become a threat for Florida and/or the Carolinas.

Still here and (I can't belive it) we still have power!!:bounce: 75,00 are now without power and the "emergency" radio station just lost their back up power:earseek:
The worst of the storm passed just about 5 miles north of us, but the rain continues and the road is underwater. I do not think the water will reach the house, but the backyard is a swamp!
Animals and kids going a little stir crazy (hate to think of what we would do without power)
DH has an old TV in the garage with an antena so we are able to get some TV news.
Going to get the laundry finished before we do loose power (I'm sure it's just a matter of time) so we have clean clothes for the week.
