I know this has been brought up before but I am starting to make hotel/rent a car reservations now.
Can anybody tell me about Ron Jon and what kind of rates they charge. Are there any discounts available? What about the Ramada?
Please let me know. We would love to be able to party with you guys the night before the cruise...

We are not going to Palo for dinner. I'd like to try the tea but Jim doesn't want to go anywhere near the place after last year. :p
We are staying at the Radisson the night before the cruise. Didn't figure we'd have enough time to enjoy Ron Jon's since we won't get there til Friday afternoon.
Got my magnet Renee. :p Very, very cute.
Congrats to Mike and Kathy! 32 years is amazing.
We want to go to the brunch -- like Mike said a long time ago we can wear shorts (not something we've been wearing a lot of lately!!) It's supposed to get hot this weekend but that just means that it will rain and be hot which has been the pattern so far this year. Everyone here is waiting for summer to start.
Want the countdowns back!

Sorry I meant the Radisson not the Ramada..any info on the rates for the Radison?

There is an internet rate at the Radisson for $85 plus taxes if you book through their website. There are strict cancellation rules but unless I keel over this cruise is a done deal. :p
Renee got a great rate at Ron Jon's but can't remember what it was.
Don't forget we are meeting at the Grills for dinner Friday night for anyone who will be at the port.
Really looking forward to this vacation!

jeanneg...we never go to Palo's for dinner--I am not real impressed with it and to be honest, I was a little disappointed in the brunch up there and the hassle that they gave to Avé.
Avé...what is this seafood brunch...Sam loves any kind of seafood but there is no way I would voluntarily eat it (well maybe scallops!!) so do you know if they serve anything else? I would be willing to go but only if there are other choices--maybe I'll do lunch in Lumiere's and only eat dessert there!
Arlene...we are staying at Ron Jon's--I think we paid $79.00 for the one bedroom with kitchen??? I will look in my cruise folder to be sure and I can email you. I know that there was an AAA rate and also a Florida discount rate but as soon as I have a chance, I will let you know. We are not getting in until Friday at nine (into Sanford).
Fiona...I actually would like to try high tea at Palo's--maybe we could send the guys off somewhere and a few of us girls could do it???

Mary Jo:
I just called Ron Jons, the studio with the AAA disacount was $108 per night and they had no Florida resident discount. The price you got is great...If you do have any info for me let me know. It would be truly appreciated.
By the way disney called us and upgraded us from a room with 2 portholes to a room with a picture window. I'll believe it when I get my confirmation from them..

Yet another one of those days ... now hear this, FULL MOON GO AWAY!
To the "Brunch Bunch Leader" ... sign us up (Art & Cathy with @ C). This sounds like such a better idea and IT'S FREE!
Mike & Kathy ... Congrats, 32 years since you first met .... and you still carry on like kids. Wait I take that back, you may still chase each other around but now it's more like a slow trot instead of running! :smooth:
Mike ... about St Thomas, I know we won't be walking the "5 minutes walk" to K-Mart this time (hehehe) Does Kathy still have her connection there? Think about what you'd like to do and let us know.
I've printed out the coupons for "Grills" and put them in my "DIS Binder", along with the Crew Thank You cards that I downloaded and printed out.
Did someone mention that they were interested in looking for "Hidden Mickeys" ... let me know and I'll e-mail you the little booklet that I did up.
I'm going    without being able to see the counter some of you have on. I WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER I HAVE TO WAIT!

MaryJo,
We agree about not being impressed about Palo. This time, we'll just get the souffle to go instead of eating there.
High Tea sounds good. Never done it and would like to.
Arlene,
I got a rate of $75 for a one bedroom studio for Ron Jon (like Sarah, Haley will be sleeping on the couch). I used Code 102, but I don't think it's valid anymore. If you do a search on the cruise board, there might be more codes you can try. I'll see if I can find any.

Ok, we booked the Eco Tour on Antigua. We wanted to kayak, but I think this will be more fun, fewer people. Anyone going to St. John's to snorkel at Trunk Bay or somewhere else on your own? That's what we want to do, but will go for the Disney excursion if we have to. Can't wait for the 60 day mark. I've been out shopping for gift ideas!

To all that can help!!!
Please pass on all tips, tricks, ideas, phone numbers, codes, etc, for contacting Ron Jons....I have been cut off, hung-up on, left messages. They won't return my calls, e-mails etc. TA can't even get a response from them. We would love to stay a couple of days after the cruise...I think. I have used the phone numbers listed on Ron Jons web site.

Renee: Got the magnets today, thank you!! What a great job!
MaryJo: Would love to do the tea.
Will be booking Hyatt room next week, still undecided on DCL transport or private car. Since I won't be returning until Monday afternoon, I'll only need transport one way in the private car. Cost wise I think it will be the same.

Sharon: We just cancelled our ressie at the Hyatt MCO.......I've always wanted to stay there but just can't justify the price since we'll only be there for the few evening hours. If you know of a good place to get a decent rate, let me know. Right now we're planning to stay in one of the other less expensive hotels in the MCO vicinity and probably use DCL transfers since it's the most economical way for the 2 of us to get there. I'd love to join all the fun activities at the Ron Jon and Radisson, but our plane gets in after 8pm. By the time we retrieve our luggage and get ourselves to the port it will be around 10pm and I'm sure the party will be winding down. So I guess we'll just have to meet everyone at the terminal. Does anyone know what time the first DCL bus leaves MCO......and where would I get it if the hotel shuttle is taking us back? I always see the DCL reps when we get off the plane in the main section of the airport but we won't be there as we are not ticketed passengers.
Anybody else flying in late and staying in the MCO airport? Maybe we could at least meet somewhere for a drink to kick off the week.

I am really getting excited about the cruise! We are leaving for a week at DVC's HHI resort Sunday which is great since we can get a little taste of Disney before the cruise. Jeanne other threads have mentioned the LaQuinta and getting pretty decent rooms on Priceline, etc. Check out Barb's site for tips on priceline booking. Most of the posts have been three star hotels for under 100 dollars.
I decided to bite the bullet for the Hyatt simply for convenience, traveling with me and the two girls and just don't want the hassle. Plus we'll be leaving after work/school and I'm guessing the kids will be pretty cranky and I'll me more than ready for a drink. Won't be able to finalize flights until tomorrow, but right know it looks like we'll be getting in at around 11.

Jeanne-
Our flight gets in around 8 on Friday too. I have not made any reservations yet. I'm kind of like Sharon though....Hyatt would be soooooo convenient. MY MIL and SIL want to come over from Tampa and visit that night, so I probably need to look for some type of suite. We haven't seen them for almost a year and we just can't go to the sunshine state for even a night without visiting.
Someone mentioned the time that we depart from Antigua, but of course I can't find it anywhere. Would someone pm me if they have that info?

Hey everyone! Just got back from a family reunion in Scranton, PA. Had a great visit with Mary Jo & Sarah. (That manager wasn't obvious about trying to kick us out, was he? :) )
Pétér--I'm interested in the gift exchange. Are people replying as a group or individually?
Ciadra--sent you an e-mail w/David's info for your list. I'll get on Heidi when she wakes up.
Congrats to everyone celebrating something on-board. I was interested in doing Palo for dinner on 10/7 (our 16th WA). However, I had a bad experience with trying to make a ressie last time & decided they didn't need my business. But I've had sooo many people praise the place--thought maybe this time would be different. Although, now I'm seeing some of your threads--it really isn't all that it's cracked up to be, is it?
Reneé--was I on your list to get a magnet? I haven't seen it in the mail yet.
I've got about 10 pages of posts to go thru, so I can be all caught up.

We've mentioned this before (about 100 pages back!). Would anyone be interested in sharing the cost of renting a van or something, to drive from MCO to Pt Canaveral?
We're arriving around 8 pm on Friday, and I don't want to drive to the port or Cocoa Beach that night. The Disney transfers would not be as economical for the four of us. I'm sure we can find a van to hold 8 or 9 people, whatever, and split the cost.
I'll be happy to do the research as to vehicles & prices, etc. E-mail or pm me with your information if you're interested. zapp1213@sbcglobal.net

Ave',
I got email from PCB today: Information about the town, etc and I ordered a free vacation planner. We're really looking forward to enjoying your beaches. I found a nice gift for Mark this week ::yes:: Today I was lucky once more: I went to a large consumer electronics market and TDK had a wheel-of-fortune there. I twisted it and won a football - The real thing, not what you Americans call a football ;)
An hour later I went to a large DIY-market. When I parked my car I saw that the car next to me had its keys in the lock of the passenger door with no one near the car  I locked it, went to the information desk and asked them to use their public adress system to locate the owner. After about 3 minutes a couple -I guess in their early 60ies - came and was kind of suprised when I showed them their keys :p He immediately blamed her and vice-versa:laughing: They thanked me and then I left to do my shopping, but then they followed me and insisted that I have a beer on them and gave me €10. I tried to refuse, but they wouldn't let me ;) They said they would be deeply offended if I didn't take the dough and that I saved their doggy. I forgot to mention that their was a little Yorkshire in the car - Not exactly what one would call a watchdog :jester: The said that the loss of the car wouldn't have been as bad losing their companion.

We got the Crowne Plaza at MCO off Hotwire for $60....I was sooooooo hoping for the Hyatt, although I knew it was most likely the Crowne. We will be staying there on 9/18 because our flight gets in at 10:30 pm or so. It has a bed, pool, bar and restuarant, so all will be okay, as long as it is clean!

Renee: just received my magnets in the mail today.....thank-you so much, they are beautiful!!!!!! I can't wait to put them on our cabin door so be can become an official Cruisetoberfester! Love the new photo of Haley and look forward to meeting the little pumpkin!
Eric: what a nice guy......it seems wherever you are, good karma follows. Hopefully some of it will rub off on me.
Mariane: for us right now, the DCL transfer is actually the cheapest and most convenient mode of transport since we can just check our bags with them and forget about them. If however you found a great deal with a limo company, we would not be opposed to giving it some consideration. The tricky part may be the return trip since I don't think we're all heading back to the airport. We haven't purchased the transfers yet so nothing is set in stone. Gotta check out the rates for La Quinta....sounds like a good deal.
Goofynut: Happy Birthday!!!! have a great celebration....and a drink for me!
Who was it that saw "Notebook" recently? I agree, what a tearjerker......but that Noah sure was hot in a weird sort of way.

Reneé--
Got the magnets today. They look great!
I was planning to take the kids to see the new Harry Potter on the IMAX screen. They weren't as excited about it as I was. (We have seen it already on the regular screen.) Maybe tomorrow.
It was really hot in the sun here today, and I spent way too much time in it. Now I've got a massive headache. Can't put my head on my pillow, it hurts so bad. I'm trying to sip water--I'm sure I'm dehydrated.
Anja--you may be interested to know, we've taken Duke into our home. He's the black lab that went with DH's secretary about 3 or 4 weeks ago--I mentioned it in a previous post. Unfortunately, she left her husband, got an apartment, and can't keep the dog. Tom brought him home until he finds another home for him, but I think he's going to stay here. His life has been turned upside down, living in 4 different houses in 4 weeks! The one thing that I think bothers me the most is that, you can't tell me Tina didn't know a month ago that she was going to split with her husband. That's not an impulsive decision.
Well, little league baseball & girls softball are both over for the season (thank the Lord!). I hate filling in the calendar in the spring. We can do almost nothing until the middle of July--one of the kids has a game or a practice or something. David's team party was today, and then Heidi lost her tourney game, which ended the season. The picnic is next Saturday.
Now that that's over & the Pennsylvania trip is behind me, I can focus on October.
Later, Marianne

We've decided our next cruise will be Hawaii. We have always wanted to do Hawaii, but been kind of intimidated by all the island hopping we would want to do. NCL now has a US registered ship that does only Hawaii. (if the ship is not US registered, it has to hit a foriegn port somewhere on the trip) Seems like the best way to see the most in a shorter amount of time. But we'll see......we usually end up spending our vacation savings on a trip to the Carribean or WDW before we save enough for Hawaii.

Actually got DS out of bed and out of the house this morning as he wanted to go to Costco with us. He also went out for breakfast with us at a diner we go too. We go often enough that we no longer order as the owner already knows what we want so DS was waiting for us to order before he did and was kinda stumped by the whole thing -- course he wasn't quite awake yet either. :p
DS will be 18 tomorrow so Mike I know how you feel. My baby is growing up.
Saw the Jays lose this afternoon -- pretty painful 11-2. Our reliever was awful and gave up a grand slam.
Would like to see The Notebook and Spiderman 2 but may have to wait for a bit as haven't had time lately.
It was finally hot today and wore shorts for the first time in ages it seems. We kept moving seats at the ballgame to sit in the shade!
Must go and do some laundry.

Marianne,
Anja will surely be jealous ;) I'll tell her later when I pick her up at the hospital. She has to work the whole weekend :( But I'm not off better: I go a large box of work waiting for me, too. My old department has declared an emergency and so I volunteered to help them.
Ave',
let's go for the Jackpot, although hitting it may mean that we would have to stay in the USA - at least for the winter season each year :jester:
BTW, am I correct that we'll gain an hour when travelling from St. Augustine to PCB, and lose it again when we're travelling from PCB to Orlando?
Videoman,
Bingo? Perhaps we give it a try. I usually associate Bingo with English housewives in ugly clothing yelling from time to time :jester: I spent 3 summers in England as a kid and we laughed our butts off peeping into those Bingo-Halls :p

I've been away from the boards for 4 days so had alot of catching up to do.
Happy Belated Birthday to Art (Mr. Goofynut)
Mike-- I'm impressed that you actually remember the date you and Kathy met. Also thanks for the Icard.
Renee--- I got the magnets in the mail on Saturday, thank you so much you did a great job. Now I just need to put them somewhere near my cruise stuff so I don't forget to bring them with me.
Busy weekend. We went to Baltimore Inner Harbor on Sat with DS#1 and his GF. Then today we went to Hersheypark for Norm's company picnic. Monday I am off work, because DS#2 is getting his wisdom teeth out. Hopefully it will go as smoothly as DS#1 went.
I really need to get organized for this cruise. We are flying down late Friday night won't get to MCO until around 10:30pm. The last couple of times we rented a car and drove over to the Radisson at the Port. Not sure what my plan is yet. Plus we are staying 4 days post cruise, so need to get a room at WDW. Maybe tomorrow will work on some of these details.
Mary (Relling Twin)--- I can't cruise until after the 3rd week in Oct in 2005 because of my conference responsibilites. Are you looking at Eastern or Western on Mariner of the Sea?
Disneybride96--- I have been reading on cruise critic a review of the NCL Aloha ship that is taking it's maiden cruise with its Hawaii iternary. They have posted up to day 4 so far. You might want to read that. It is interesting what all the changes are on the ship because it is flying under the US flag. This was the ship that had to cancel some of the cruises prior to repositioning as the US crew was exhausted. It has been interesting reading. We plan to do Alaska before Hawaii.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Quiet here too. It's sunny but humid out. I think it's supposed to get cooler and rain later this week.
Thought I would make great progress today on the files on my desk but so far nothing seems to be disappearing. In fact my chair is now piled high with files. Desparately need a vacation from the piles of paper. :p
DS is now an 'adult'. We went out to a restaurant and got them to sing to him, give him a crown, balloon and take his picture. He was not impressed although his cousin was happy as she got to take home the balloon. Jim had no sympathy for him though as Jim related how I made him get a birthday button at Epcot last year and wear it all day.

I submitted the Mickey cruise logo to Zazzle.com to have them make the shirts so I don't have to. They just called me to tell me that they can't make them because of copyright infringement. Spiderman 2 was GREAT! Both DH and I had to work Sat. But I got the tickets on my way home. When DH got home at 5pm I said you have 30 minutes to shower and get ready. We then went to an Italian Rest. close to the theater for dinner. The food was excellent. Then drove to the theater, got our seats, with our popcorn, cokes and blankets and settled in. I can't remember enjoying a movie this much. Great special effects, great story, and great ending!
The kids start back to school on Aug. 5th, so I have to start getting ready for that big transition. Shopping for school clothes, and supplies. Yuck.;)

Love the magnets ... got them in my "MUST TAKE ON THE CRUISE" box. I didn't want to have a senior moment and forget them for our cabin door.
Our "MUST TAKE ON THE CRUISE" box is where I put the important stuff, the door magnets, the Serenity Bay Arsenal, the name tags for our group, etc, etc, etc. Am I the only one that's started to "gather"?
Had a great time with MaryJo, Sam and Sarah at a baseball game on Saturday ... even got Art's name up in "lights" for his birthday.
http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage05/17.gif Then we got home and had no water... not even a dribble. We live in a rural area and have well water. Our water pump pooped out. So Sunday we went waterless and Monday we shelled out $701 for a water pump. http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage05/17.gif Funny part was that I had to run out and get some bottled water to drink and now AshLee thinks she's royal, drinking the good stuff! Actually our well water is really good, like spring water ... except for right now till things settle down. Thank God we have a filter system, cause we'll have to change that a lot for the next week or so.
OK ... I'm off my soap box now!

We have a cruise box as well. Emptied stuff from last year right into it for this year so it's been around for a while. Have to move the magnets into it so that they don't get forgotten.
Love the new picture of Haley -- keep forgetting to mention that.
We are awaiting the appearance of the new addition to the family. SIL is due on the 22nd but would cheerfully deliver anytime now.
At dinner last night with DS was talking about the cruise (to which he still has no interest but I keep trying). He said to me "don't worry mom when I'm rich I'll set you up with your own cabin on the disney cruise and you'll never have to get off!". Thought that was cute.
DS saw a Ferrari yesterday driving home but it was yellow so DS explained about colouring coding of Ferrari. Me, I wouldn't have spotted the car at all. Luckily he didn't ask for that for his birthday!
Can't wait for the cruise to get here. 11 weeks tomorrow we leave for Florida.

Eric,
I can't believe you got the magnets already! I mailed them the same day I mailed everyone else's. The guy at the Post Office said you might get them in about 7 days, maybe! Wow, I think that's a record.
BTW - there wasn't any postage due on them was there? When he figured it out, he said "that should be the right amount for Germany. If not, then you'll find out". Then he laughed. Sometimes I just hate going to the Post Office. I think they have a warped sense of humor.

Postage was fine. Anyway, the German Postal Service wouldn't be allowed to take extra-postage. According to my knowledge the international laws regarding postage only the American Postal Service could have stopped it before leaving the US, returning it to you and asking for more postage. As soon as it has left the country of origin the multilateral postal treaties make sure that it arrives. It is asssumed that there's as much traffic leaving any country as entring the respective country, thus balancing everything.
I must admit I was also surprised about the quick delivery. But four weeks ago I also sent a letter containing two T-shirts to Minnesota on a Thursday and it arrived next Monday.
We often order stuff from Amazon.com in the US and it usually needs less than a week.

An elderly couple were on a cruise and it was really stormy. They were standing on the back of the boat watching the moon, when a wave came up and washed the old woman overboard. They searched for days and couldn't find her, so the captain sent the old man back to shore with the promise that he would notify him as soon as they found something. Three weeks went by and finally the old man got a fax from the boat. It read: "Sir, sorry to inform you, we found your wife dead at the bottom of the ocean. We hauled her up to the deck and attached to her butt was an oyster and in it was a pearl worth $50,000 . . . please advise." The old man faxed back: "Send me the pearl and re-bait the trap." http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage12/1.gif

Fiona,
I've got something nice for you:
In 'Der Spiegel', a German weekly publication comparable to 'Time' or 'Newsweek', they have a weekly column on the last page displaying oddities and funny errors from other publications - or sometimes even their own. This week they had an excerpt from the 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' ('Southgerman Newspaper), a usually renowned and well-informed daily newspaper.
SZ had a mini-series about capitals of the world, and one week they wrote the following headline:
'Montreal. Canada and its capital save the reputation of the continent.' No offense meant to our friends South of the Canadian border!! ;)
One week later they corrected themselves with that headline:
'Capital Nonsense. Montreal is not Canada's capital- It's Quebec, of course.'
Needless to say that they were flooded with letters to the editor, telling them about Ottawa. :p
cdnmickeylover
07-13-2004, 05:05 PM
That's very funny Eric esp. since Montreal is the capital of nothing, (except maybe bagels) not even Quebec as the capital of Quebec is actually Quebec City!
Have to clear off my desk of some files tonight before I leave as it is just covered although have to admit I'm tempted just to pile everything up and leave.
It's actually :sunny: , hot and humid here today which is nice considering that it's supposed to be raining the rest of the week and get a lot cooler.

Just spent the last few minutes catching up, having not logged on in a couple of days.
And now for the good and great news!!!!!!
I'm PAID IN FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And for the great news: I got roundtrip airline tickets on United Airlines from Philadelphia to MCO for $336.00 for three people. Yes that's for three people not each person.
I have a 12 gty cabin and still haven't been assigned a cabin number, so send me some upgrade pixie dust if you would.
We'll definitely be staying at the Hyatt MCO since the flight doesn't arrive until midnight. Am about 90% sure we'll be taking the DCL bus unless a better deal comes along, would not be opposed to sharing a van, limo, etc. However, we won't be returning to the airport after the cruise as we are not leaving until Sunday evening.
Mariane: Barb's site is castawayclub dot com (replace the "dot" with a dot). She has menus, navigators, and soo much info, and her trip reports are just what a DCL addict neesd for a quick fix.
Renee: Drink, mickey bar, you name it, it's yours for such a great job on the magnets.
Hope I didn't leave anyone out, but just to cover myself, congratulations to all with something to celebrate recently. Honestly, cant wait to meet all of you!

Ciadriamom...how is your grandmother doing? Can't believe that airfare that you got--wow--I wish that I lived closer to Philadelphia (a two hour drive for us)--actually the airport that we fly out of is exactly one exit away from us so for convenience, we usually fly out of there. Let me know if you would like to do high tea and we can maybe get a group together.
Ciara...did Sarah contact you with her information? Let me know if she didn't so I can nudge her along!!
Sarah has been working for the summer (babysitting from Tuesday through Thursday) and all she is doing is complaining that it is the pits having to get up so early (7:15 a.m.) in the summer--mind you, the girl she is babysitting is in 4th grade but the mom doesn't want to leave her alone so they read, play Barbies and swim!! What I want to know if how do you get a job like that!! Of course, I don't see a cent from the paycheck!!

OUCH!!!! :earseek: At that price that Bahama Mama is definitely on me.
Is there anyway you can see if you can take advantage of the airfare sales? I think I saw a post on another thread that someone received a refund when the fare for their flight went on sale.
We're flying United Airlines and even the most expensive flight was only $500.00.
Thanks for the pixie dust for grams.

Sharon,
this is the full price for Frankfurt-Philadelphia-Orlando and return Orlando-Pittsburgh-Frankfurt.
We booked it in January or February. We could have waited for a better price, but we prefer to fly USAir's Airbus A330, because it has fully individual entertainment systems even in coach-class. By booking so early we may have paid a bit more, but we got exactly what we wanted.
By waiting until -say- 4 weeks prior departure, we could have gotten a better price, but perhaps not at the times nor in the aircraft we wanted. A co-worker of mine i.e bought tickets from Frankfurt to Boston and back for €440 each last week, but he isn't doing a cruise and so more flexible.
We've got exactly 4 weeks for that vacation and want to depart on the first day (9/11) and return on the last (10/10) to utilize those precious days best.

Anja & I will fly to the North this weekend to celebrate her Granny's 95th birthday :earseek:
As we have nearly used up all our vacation days we decided to fly up there Saturday morning and return Sunday evening. As the tickets to Anja's hometown Kiel would have been €360 for the two of us, we decided to fly to Hamburg for a special offer of only €180 and take a rental car for the remaining 60 miles.
I made a reservation for a Smart Convertible. I hope we get one, because they may also give us another car. For those of you who don't know what a Smart is:
It's a reallllllllllllllllly tiny car, with an overall length of just 8 feet 2 inches, a .7litre turbocharged 3-cylinder pumping out 61 hp. It does about 40 - 50 mpg, has two seats only and is limited to about 85mph. I haven't driven one so far and always wanted to give it a try.
Driving 380 miles up there -and back again- this weekend would have been suicide :p as summer vacation starts in our state and several others tomorrow. This means that all the major Autobahnen will be turned into very long parking lots
BTW, in January we'll have to do the same again as Anja's other Granny will be 95 then, too. She still lives independently in an appartment in downtown Kiel.

Everyone wish us luck! We are headed to Utah tomorrow to do our open water certification so we can enjoy some dives on this trip! I am a bit nervous, the whole equalizing thing and neutral boyancy thing may be a pain, but I figure we'll do OK. It'll just be WAYYYY different than the 12 ft pool we did our confined dives in! Okay, honestly, I am more nervous about leaving Orion (our dog) home with just the neighbors watching him. What will I do when we have real kids! I'll never leave the house!

Add us to the PIF list about 2 weeks ago!! :p We have been to the mountains for a few days. While we were gone, 1971Visitor and papa made a reference to the heat and heat index. Well, on the heels of that heat was a storm front that carried what the Weather Channel called Cat.1 Hurricane Force winds. That must be what put one of the neighbors trees in my backyard, and two large limbs from one of my own trees! So its off to sharpen the chainsaw blade.

Renee' -- Just got back from our Hilton Head DVC vacation today and when we picked up the mail, your magnets were there. Thanks so much -- they are great!! Didn't expect them to be so big. Can't wait until we can put them on our stateroom door. Only 77 days. I am going to start getting things together for the cruise as soon as I finish unpacking and not leave things to the last minute as I often do now that we take so many vacations since joined DVC in 1994. Thanks again. It was wonderful of you to do this for us. Another Mickey bar or whatever you can think of as a thank you from Sam and I.
Hilton Head was wonderful as usual. Love that resort and what a great, wide, uncrowded beach!. It was really hot (95 - 99) so we could only spend about 3 hours a day at the beach or pools. Went to see (and participate in "Tony & Tina's Wedding". Has anyone else ever gone to this production? I highly recommend it.
We joined the PIF club on 6/28. We had a deal to get double Disney Reward Dollars up to June 30. So I charged the $2100 balance and will get an additional $42 reward dollars -- should have around $250 before we leave plus our $50 Disney Visa shipboard credit and our $150 AAA credit. Will pay off the charge when we get the bill. What a deal!
Good to be back to the boards. Had to get to my computer as soon as we stopped at the PO and bank upon our return. Now I am caught up with my reading. Time to unpack and do laundry.

My mother went down to the hospital this afternoon and says that he has a great deal of really dark hair -- this is different from the first two who both have blond hair. Mom said he slept the entire time she was there so maybe this is a good sign because last baby nephew did not sleep.
We (Jim, DS and I) will go up and visit for a bit and then the plan is to take the two older siblings out to DQ for ice cream just to give them some attention and Mom and Dad a little break. :p

Anja's Granny says Hi to everyone - Although she didn't quite catch where those greeting came from :p Internet:confused: US-Americans & Canadians:confused:  :jester:
The Smart was fun to drive ::yes:: It's kind of strange to have a car which ends right in front of your feet, respectively directly behind your butt:crazy: But it consumed only 3 gallons for about 140 miles and this at a constant 75-80mph on the Autobahn with the top down. I'll post a pic of the car soon.
Now we're less than 8 weeks away from our well-deserved vacation :teeth:
Here a tip for all you divers out there: I just got me a new watch, a Swatch Fun Scuba. This is a wristwatch witch automatically displays and records your dive - Depth and time. After you have returned to the surface you can let the watch 'replay' your dive. It's not a substitute for dive-computer, but a fun-toy - For just €70, the US-price is $80

We knew our dive instructor was a bit of a jerk, as he taught our classroom and confined water dives, but he was very unpleasant on this trip this weekend. Out of the 3 divers getting the cert, I was the only one who passed. He told another diver she needed to get mental health treatment because was apprehensive of going too deep because she was having an ear ache. He also said, "diving isn't for everybody." We all heard this, and that just sucks to hear when you are stuggling with a skill. He was "okay" with Tim, who did everything, but Tim refused to flood his mask. He did on the very first dive, but inhaled ALOT of water through his nose (he forgot the whole "don't breath through your nose" thing:rolleyes: !) It was just disappointing that he offerered no encouragement, no words of advice, NOTHING!!!!! Just "I don't know what to tell you." A fourth diver was getting her rescue cert, and she offered so much help to Tim. She recommended tons of things, but oddly enough, the dive instructor didn't offer any help, even if when asked. Even when we were done diving, he would barely speak to us, wouldn't sit with us a breakfast (my table manners are not that bad!)...he is just an unpleasant man! Plus, he put us up in a disgusting motel. So, unfortunately, Tim will need to continue his cert process with this jerk, as he may just make Tim do the mask skills in open water because he did everything else fine, but it just irritates me that we will have to give this moron more of our money!
Ahhh, nothing like a Monday morning vent!

Jill-
What a jerk! I think he needs to be reminded that he is being paid to teach you enough that you can be certified! It's no wonder people don't pass if they are made to be so uncomfortable. I think learning to dive is as much mental as it is skill to start off with. I would have never made it through my first dive in Cayman without a woulderful dive master.
If it is PADI - maybe they need some feedback on his attitude. Remember, you do have to do open waters with this guy. We did our pool work in Indiana, and our open waters in Sarasota.

Jill -- well he certainly is a jerk. And 'teaching isn't for everyone' obviously. Any way you can take it with someone else??
Sorry you had such an unsuccessful weekend.

Jill,
what a jerk:eek:
I'd report him to PADI.
Anja also had major problems with the 'One-Minute-Without-Mask-Routine', but our instructor gave her a lot of tips and was extremely patient. I practiced it with Anja in the motel's pool for about 90 minutes until she got it and next day she passed that part, too.
BTW, we did a 4-day-program, more or less full time. We started each morning at 9am, did classroom work or some diving til noon, then we had 90 minutes lunchbreak and at 1:30pm we continued in the water til 4/5pm. Each day we did parts of the practical tests and on the last morning we did our written exam. With the last afternoon we received our license.
Our first two days of this year's vacation we'll spend again with our instructor Rudy of Bird's Underwater on Crystal River, doing kind of a refresher and a some cavern-diving.
We'll keep our fingers crossed for Tim ::yes::
Tell him that one single dive in Caribbean waters will pay for all the hardships he had to endure with this jerk;)

Oh Jill, I'm so sorry you guys did not have a good teacher. What is he doing in this line of work? After seeing a small part of what my DD went through this weekend, I can't imagine her getting through it without an encouraging teacher. True, PADI is not for everyone, and letting someone pass just because they paid you money is not ethical. But letting them fail because you don't want to spend the time teaching them the way to do it safely, and correctly, is just plain lazy. I'm with Eric, I would report him. Otherwise he just keeps on going, like the Energizer bunny with a snorkle. :)

Tim is going to call around AFTER Steve (aka jerk dive instructor) signs off on his first open dive that he passed, plus any comments he may add regarding his other 3 dives (in which he did all ok!) The girl who needed "mental health treatment" said she was going to report him to PADI. She rode out with him to Utah, but we drove on our own. She refused to ride back with him for the 6 1/2 hour ride, she was so upset, so we drove her back (at which time we got a 6 hour lesson in the vegan lifestyle and the ignorance of meat eaters....all fine and dandy until she drug Walt Disney into it somehow. I had to let her know she crossed the line;) But that is another story!)
Ultimately, the dives we have planned for this trip are one of the things we are looking foward to the most....only second to meeting all you guys in person!:D So, when we had this experience, it was just a major major disappointment. There is still plenty of time to get it done however, so we will be hanging with the fishies in the Caribbean (and the Living Seas!)
Just edited this to clear up that I have nothing against the being vegan, I just was shocked it turned into a LOOOONNNNGGGGG talk that started with my asking about difficulty in maintaining such a rigid diet, concluding in the evils of Walt and meat. Strange, but true. Just didn't want to offend anyone who may be vegan! :wave2:

Hi Meme! Welcome to the 10/11/04 cruise! So glad to have you.The best way to get a handel on who's who is to join "The List". This is very easy to do. Just e-mail Eric (Viking) by clicking on the link in his signature. Send him the following info:
Your first names/ages
occupation
cabin # (if known)
main or late seating for dinner
hometown
where you will be the night before the cruise
any special occation you may be celebrating while on the crusie
Once he has this info, you will be added to the list and a copy will be sent to you. This info is NOT posted on any public board, and is sent to only those who have sent in their info. If you don't know any info (like where you are staying) or if you are not comfortable with any info (like cabin #) please feel free to leave it out. About half of us have sailed together before, the other half we will be meeting for the fist time!
Hotel the night before. We are staying at the Radisson at the port. Others will be at Ron Jons also near the port. Still others will be staying near the airport. Those of us staying at the port are plannig to meet at a resturant called "Gills" overlooking the water on Friday the 1st for snacks and drinks. We also have some fun things planned once on board.
Sailaway Party on Sat
Snorkel/diving trip on St Thomas or sightseeing trip
Eco trip on Antiqua
Lunch on one of the "Sea Days"
a group photo
Dinning: if you are interested in joining one of the "tables" just say the word.
We are planning T-shirts. Goofynut and friends have come up with a cute logo and will e-mail it to everyone. You can print it out on "iron on" transfer paper and iron it onto your own t-shirts.
I think I covered everything (NOT!!!)The main thing is to check the boards often, ask questions, and join in the excitment as the days count down!
Can't help with the airfare thing as we are driving.
I have to tell you I love your screen name. My Twin sister's (TwinAve on this board) daughter is named Mary (after me) and when she was learning to talk, she called me "Aunt me". At first we thought we thought she was trying saying Aunt Mary, but soon discovered she was saying "Aunt Me". She has been calling me that ever since!
Jill and Tim, so sorry you have such an ordeal with the diving! I agree with Eric, once you get into the water in the tropics you'll know it was worth it!

Welcome Auntmeme. The list will give you a good idea of who we are all. We are staying at the Radisson the night before. I got an internet rate of $85/night which has strict cancellation penalties but I don't expect to cancel. The Radisson also lets us park our car there for the week for free which was a consideration.
Saw new nephew last night -- very cute but he slept for all but maybe 5 minutes of our visit. He's not bothered by noise when sleeping though as niece and nephew were by no means quiet! Lots of dark hair. He doesn't sleep that long though at night so DB and DSIL were pretty tired. My DS gets along great with little kids (although don't tell him that). He spent a lot of time teasing my niece and lifting 1st nephew into the air so that he could touch the ceiling.
We (Jim, DS and I) took the two older kids to Dairy Queen, us to get dinner and the kids ice cream. They were pretty good and on the walk there and back although nephew was carried for part of the way back -- he's not light either!
Asked what the kids needed and DB stated that no one was to buy the third child any toys at all and no toys are needed that make lots of annoying sounds. We now, of course, have a mission, suggestions are welcome for loud, annoying toys. :teeth:
Back to work.

The magnets are wonderful!
I've also been bad about checking posts lately, so I have a couple of questions (so please bear with me). Was the design for t-shirts decided upon? And if so, how do I get a copy of that?
After much planning, I will be staying at Pop Century before the cruise. I will be arriving in WDW on 9-28-04. I have Tiffany Towncar picking me up and taking me to the port on Saturday. Should arrive at the terminal early, I'll need all the time I can get to start putting faces to names. I look forward to meeting everyone. Right now I'm just so confused with who is who, but I figure it will all make sense once I get there.
The excurisions that I've been thinking about is Stingrays and Dolphins in Antigua, and Champagne Catamaran Sail in St. Thomas.
Have a magical day

Hi Everyone,
Lenny & I took off from work yesterday and took Haley to Sesame Place. We had a great day, and Haley had the time of her life. We spent the day in the wave pool, lazy river and other water and dry rides. She was so worn out that after lunch she fell asleep during Elmo's World Live! She wound up sleeping for 2 hours. Then it was on to more water rides. By this time it was around 4:30 and she started shivering. Of course, she kept saying no when I asked if she was cold or if she wanted to get out of the water. I finally said we had to get out. After we all got changed, we watched the parade and then headed for home since it was around 7 pm. We were there since 8 am since tickets for breakfast with Big Bird and Friends are first come, first served. Breakfast was ok, not something I'd do again and definitely not like Disney.
All in all, we had a great time and were exhausted by the time we got home.
I finally just caught up with my reading of the boards and made some more magnets and am doing some work in between.

I want your countdown timer Eric!!!
It's really warm and humid here today but there's a smog advisory and they are calling for thunderstorms so it doesn't look that great out. Our dog has been going nuts the last few days because she definitely doesn't like thunderstorms or rain. She just shakes and quivers and pants til it's sunny again.
DS leaves Sat morning for the rest of the summer so have some things that I'm supposed to pick up for him. Have to admit he's been really good about being up and out the door by 6:30am every morning. This will stop the minute he has to go back to school though.
Told him that kids go back to school starting in August in the US and he was amazed. He doesn't go back til Sept 7th and he thinks that's too soon!!
Have a great day everyone!

Kim and Eric, I hate to sound like such a computer dunce, but I have no idea which one I need. This is what happened: My computer has Lotus and Adobe. A friend of mine came over and installed Micosoft Word. It worked great, I was able to do all the things I wanted to, including downloading the cruise list. Then my DH crashed the computer. Wiping out everything. (He does this every once in awhile for some reason known only to him and the computer gods.) Well my Words was gone. :( I am way too cheap to buy the program, so I limp along without it, depending on kind souls such as yourselves to convert files to meet my needs.
It's a sad story :( I know. And I throw myself at your mercy.:jester:

Jeanneg -- I paid our bill ahead of time so I could get extra Disney Reward Dollars, but as I recall, the final payment is due 60 days before the Magic sails. On our original documents, I believe it said the date for final payment was August 3 which gives you about 11 days to get your money in. I would start checking if I were you. OK, finally PIF for both cruises....ouch. But it does make it seem so much closer now!!! It will all be worth it, though! Has anyone requested to recieve your documents early? Did they come early? The DU rep told us that our docs would be in 7-10 days before the cruise, but we'll be either in WDW or on the 9/25. She said the concierge at DU can get them to us early, but I am now just a tad worried.....

I also had computer problems this week. It partially crashed but DS#1 had to erase everything on the harddrive and reinstall everything for me.
I have had problems with my sciatic nerve since Monday and have terrible pain down my leg. It was bad enough to send me off to the Doctor. It is slowly getting better, but still painful. At least now I can walk around better than I could on Monday.
Since the computer is now function today and I have time to kill while being home. I made our car rental reservations and post cruise hotel reservations at Port Orleans French Quarter. Next I need to decide on a pre cruise hotel. Since our flight doesn't get in until 11pm we might just stay near the airport and then drive over to the Port in the AM. If we don't do that will probably just make reservations at the Radisson.
Rainy here today.

Nancy, Sorry about your back/leg pain. Glad it is getting better. Please Everybody: STAY HEALTHY! Eat your veggies, buckle-up, look both ways, don't run with scissors. Now that we have all these new friends we don't want anyone to miss all the fun.
Twin Sister will be here tomorrow!:bounce: Can't wait. DH will be taking Geogre and the boys fishing early Sunday morning. Then we will meet up with them for a picnic lunch and some water fun at Shell Island. Just hope the weather co-operates.:sunny:
Later, Avé

Thankful that it's Friday. Am now waiting for anyone to be able to find the key to the office manager's office to get the deposit book so that I can do some banking for a client. One partner has left for vacation, one partner looked blankly at me when I asked about the deposit book and the third doesn't have a clue where the key is. It's not looking good for banking being done today. :p
An not going to blame the office manager as she doesn't get to take any more than one day off at a time although she took today and Monday off. Just kinda funny. :teeth:
Take care of yourself Nancy -- and everyone else. Need no injuries between now and the cruise.
Mike -- how is your brother doing??
My Dad is arriving in town tomorrow to see the new baby. He lives in Manitoba and haven't seen him since the last baby was born 2 years ago. We are going to take in a Yankees game on Wed (probably see the Jays lose. Sigh -- don't know what happened this year but it certainly isn't the Jays year)!
Almost time to leave. Have a great weekend everyone esp Mary and Ave!

TGIF!!!:Pinkbounc What a day. I thought it would NEVER be over! It started with a lady "breaking her water" 5 weeks before she is due and coming into the office (even though I told her to go to L&D at the hospital) Add to this a doc who was on call last night (read CRANKY!) and as always we were short handed. In theory I was to get off work at 4:30 but I knew by 2:00 there was NO way that was going to happen! Oh well ALL shifts end sooner or later:hyper: and now I can finish packing for our trip to see my twin:Pinkbounc
Fiona...sorry about the Jays. It's so much more fun when your team is winning.
Nancy...sorry about your pain and your puter problems:( I hope you will come to the Radisson. I know it will be late, but it would be nice to see you in the morning. Who knows...we might still be hanging around the pool at midnight::yes:
Jill, your gift for Tim sounds wonderful. I would love to hear the details when we see you. As far as the documents go, we got ours 4 weeks before sailing, but please do NOT stress over it. I have see many times people say they did not get their doc, and were still able to check in at the port with no problem.

Hi all!! Boy, it's been a long time since I've been here to say HI!!
I got a letter from Mary Jo the other day about your Friday night dinner. I'm not sure if we would be able to make it, but we'll see. If we do, we'll go to Disney for the weekend (to sulk in the truth that we had to cancel this cruise).
Unfortunately, I don't think that our next cruise will be sometime in 2006. We have a week at OKW scheduled for the 2nd week in Sept of this year (family is coming for Maddie's baptism). Then, we're heading to DisneyLand in 2005 (for the 50th Anniversary of DL). So, we'll be ready for a cruise in 2006. So, when y'all get ready to plan a cruise for then, let us know. Other than that, let us know if you're ever at WDW or central FL, and we'd love to see you.
As for us, we're doing very well here with Madison and Emily. Maddie will be 3 months next week and she's been sleeping through the night for about 3 weeks now (can't beat that). She has been smiling and cooing for about 2 weeks now, and she's just too cute. I was going to attach a new picture to the boards, but when I went to the site, it said that the boards were down for maintenance. But, I'll try soon.
Well, Maddie's asleep on my chest right now, and needs to go eat, but I'll check in occasionally to see how my favorite group of cruisers is doing.
I miss you all!!!
Amy (and Chris, Emily and Madison)

Someone asked about the ME after my name on the list. I don't have a clue what that means. I was laid off in Feb and now have been enjoying collecting unemployment and planning for a career change. I turned 39 last month:sad2: And dh is 42. Can't believe I just wrote those numbers:crazy:
Viking - Sorry for the 2 messages. I replied with a big thank you:wave: Why would the message not come over in the correct font?
Piglet33 - we love sesame place! it's less than 15 min away so we opt for season passes. How was the crowd? haven't been there lately and it starts to get really crowded as summer progresses.
Two-foxes - Would love to hear about gifts of a lifetime, sounds fantastic! do they have anything like that on the cruise?
Ciadriamom- I would also like to know more about the jolly roger. Have you any additional info?

Hi Auntmeme! A late welcome to this crazy bunch! You can check out the website at www.giftsofalifetime.com They unfortunately do not do events on DCL, unless, of course, you pay for their cruise!:earseek: I asked on the parks board of any feedback and it has all been pretty good!
For the cruise, you could have Shirley at the Perfect Gift at www.theperfectgift.cc She will put together a custom basket for any occasion that will be delivered to your stateroom. I haven't used her, but people rave about her!
Amy we are going to the parks after the cruise and would love to meet with you and the family.
Fiona my brother in law is at home now and is doing well. Thank you for thinking about him.
Mary have a safe trip and enjoy the time with your evil twin:crazy: try not to:drinking: too much.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in October :worship: Mike

Maryellen,
I got that ME from your initial mail : Occupation- ME-worked for non-profit for 14 years till got laid off 6 months ago As you Americans are so fond of akronyms I took that for your occupation, thought it could mean Medical Examiner or something like that. Working for an American company as an RP&P-Analyst in the TML-Dept of the CA-Division in the FRA-facility, I'm so used to talking in akronyms the whole day, that I stopped thinking about them :p

Auntmeme,
We wound up upgrading our regular park tickets for season passes since we had such a good time. We were going to go back today, but it's raining here in NJ. We went on a Tuesday so it wasn't too bad. By around 3 pm the crowd started thinning out and we went on the rides that had long lines in the beginning of the day.
Maybe next time we go, we can meet up with you. It's about 30-45 minutes from us so it's not that bad.
By the way, your magnets were mailed Thursday morning so you should be getting them soon.

I am waiting for Katie to wake up as we promised to take her to the park today. Kathy and Katie might even take a dip in the pool today. Kathy is catching a few zzzzz's in the recliner also.

I've been checking out other cruise sites for excursion info. I'm thinking of going to Long Bay Beach on antigua & maybe a tour by Lawrence, anyone done this? And on St thomas Godfrey tours & sapphire beach?

Auntmeme -- A group of us are doing a customized tour by Godfrey (kind of changing around the times that we do things - like touring, beach, shopping) in St. Thomas and we may have a few openings left. You can send a PM to bettemom since Kim is in charge of that tour.

Yippee, got our Shore Excursion stuff in the mail from DCL yesterday. I didn't realize that it's almost time to book them already.
Lenny is doing the Parasailing at CC again. We're going to try to get the 10:30 am one. Anyone else doing this?
I also noticed that the Paradise Point Tramway is the same price if booking with DCL or buying the tickets there. Since this is something that we definitely want to do, I'm thinking of just getting the tickets from DCL so I know we have them. I figured this would be a great add-on to our "private" tour that Kim is putting together.

Renee - is the excursion stuff going to be going out to everyone? I was just thinking that we should be able to do that soon, but didn't know DCL would be sending anything.
Eric - for the innocent (at least in our own minds!) bystanders, do you know what time of day the "activities" will be happening at Serenity Bay? Just reading another post about a shark (w/ picture) and want to be out of the water, in case of any accidental injuries that could bring any uninvited guests!
Just got back from a mini vacation with my folks and have not seen our countdown in 2 weeks (mom refuses to have a PC in the house!) and can't wait to be reminded how much closer it is! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.:flower3:

Hey,
we were just kidding:jester:
Last year Anja & I bought a mini-football made out of foam on the ship and took it to Serenity Bay. We were among the first to arrive on the Island to work on our tan, snorkel and drift around in our floats. Later Art & Cathy, Rosemary & Richard, and some more joined us. We then started tossing that ball around, which was a lot of fun - Especially when it was soaked full of water and you managed to make it impact directly in front of an unsuspecting victim causing big splashs :teeth: I guess that Cathy's arsenal will consist of similar devices - So no bloodshed to be expected ;)
I guess that the most dangerous weapon will be my Minolta underwater camera:jester:

Hi Jeannie,
We have room for a few more to join our fantastic group $ 20.00 pp + tip, if we do not have 4 more join our group then the per person charge will go up a couple dollars each. I will be speaking to Godfrey this week and confirm everything. If they want a deposit I will give him my cc # and then we can all square up on the ship. I will get you guys an update from the tour group after I speak with them...
If any of the newbies are interested in joining a premature get together then on Friday 10/1 a bunch of us are going to Grills for early dinner/drinks and to see the cruise ships leave port, any and all are welcome to join in. I will post an update on grills in the next few weeks.
Mary, Hope you have a great visit with Ave and family...
Ave, I have a software package coming down to you this week..
Mike & Kathy, glad things are looking up with your family, can't wait to see you guys very soon..
Renee', I also have a package coming to you...
As some of you know, the owner of my Laboratory decided to merge with another company, ( great I know the owner there very well) suddenly my boss decided that he wanted out of the business immediately. Soooo in a period of 10 days we packed up our lab moved it 30 miles to another town and have set up temporay residence in all the offices. Right now building crews, computer companies and all the rest are working like bees to build me a new lab. It should be ready in about 4-6 weeks.
Things have been hectic everywhere ( very little time to come on the boards).. The house construction is going well, however it is taking almost all the free time we once had. By winter 1/2 of the house will be totally renovated/rebuilt outside and next year we will finish the other half...
So in wrap-up ... If any one is interested in the private St. Thomas tour and/or dinner at Grills with a real fun group PLMK.
Bye, Kim

I had to confiscate a picture that Tim took of me when we were snorkling. It was unflattering, to say the least, but knowing that I can now blame it on the underwater camera and not my eating habits, I can finally let go of it! Too bad I ripped up the picture!
