Talk about dressing up -- we went on a 10-day Western Carribean Celebrity cruise a couple of years ago. 3 formal nights, 3 semi-formal nights, 3 informal nights and one casual night. Sam really hated it! I brought a long black skirt and different sparkly tops for the formal nights, don't even remember what I wore for semi-formal. That's why we're back on Disney. Celebrity is a nice cruise line, but a little too formal for us. And, most of all, we just missed the happy Disney atmosphere.

Ok I guess we are never going on a celebrity cruise. That is way too many suit days for Jim! Two on the cruise he can handle but not every night.

Off to London for a Dismeet this afternoon. The weather looks nice although it is not as hot as it was earlier in the week.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jill - no Coki beach dive, will be doing the snorkeling part. Got diagnosed with allergies AND asthma (that explains the difficulty with snorkling last time!), so Chris agreed to wait until I've been on my new medicine for a while and see how I do. BUMMER!
Plus, I thank you for the Ebay idea (DH doesn't!) now I'm looking for accessories. Also, have to look up Chico's. Don't have one here, but maybe online?
Everyone have a great rest of the weekend, I have to go enjoy my LAST McDonald's for a while, DH wants to be in better disney cruise shape, so I am going on South beach diet with him! :mickeybar Denise

Denise -- I just bought the South Beach Diet book today. Started Atkins a couple of weeks ago and did fairly well. Got tired of bacon and eggs for breakfast or a cheesburger without the bun of course. Yes, that is for breakfast. I had looked at South Beach before Atkins. I think it's supposed to be a little more liberal (or strict?) than Atkins. I'll read thru the book tonight and see if we are interested. Had some sugarfree Jello at work yesterday & it was really delicious. My first dessert in a couple of weeks. So I bought a couple of boxes of Jello today and some whipped cream to top it which is legal on Atkins (I think). Don't know about South Beach. I usually never eat dessert, but I have been craving it now that I know I can't eat it. Good luck to you and Chris!

After first 2 weeks it is supposed to be more liberal. We'll see! Chris wants to rent less of a tux for the cruise, so a-dieting we will go! Well, time to go to bed and dream of BIG ships and Conch Coolers! denise:boat:

No tuxedoes for me or my "twin brother" Art. Wearing a tie is bad enough :teeth: Everything here is slowly returning to normal. Saturn Vue is in the shop for the ac again. Guess that I will have to invoke the lemon law. Kathy and I are going to take a refresher course since it has been a while since we were certified for scuba.

Glad to hear about the "free" soda onboard the magic. Mike

I think Chris would prefer no tux, but he also doesn't have a suit (yet) for a nice dinner. He wants to wait to buy one as he doesn't like his current shape! So Cruiseline formal wear here we come!

06-13-2004, 12:45 PM
My DH will not be wearing a tux this year either. I talked him into it the first year, so I should count my blessings.:jester: He will wear a suit on formal night, and the kids and I will get dressed up. I will hit the consignment shops a few weeks before we sail.
Took the kids to see Shrek 2 last night. It was very good. Lots of sneaky adult humor. :smooth:
Have the day off today!:Pinkbounc Thinking of taking the kids to the beach. Let them play while I finish off James Patterson's 3rd Degree.
I found a place to get DD certified to dive. We will sign her up in the next week or two. Then she can join her dad and Eric and Anja and the rest of you divers at Coki Beach.
Got to run, laundry to fold, and beds to make. Then maybe hit the beach.
Later, Avé

Hi Folks,

Ze Germans are back:wave:

Before I get into a short trip report, we'd like to tell you how sad we were when we heard of President Reagans passing away :( Strange coincidence: In our Sunday newspaper there was a short article remembering him and his disease - Two days later we got the news about his death  On Friday we had bad weather and thus were able to see the live-transmission of the memorial service in Washington Cathedral. We owe this man a lot over here: Our East-German countrymen may have torn down the wall, but he gave it the first big push, leaving some mighty cracks in it ::yes::

And now a happier topic:
We spent 10 very lazy after a uneventful drive up north. Unfortunately we could only enjoy two days at the beach basking in the sun as we had a lot of rain, wind and low temps. We only once dipped a toe into the water as it still was only 16°C/61°F:scared1: But the weather was good enough for a 4-mile-run before breakfast every other day.
Then we spent a wonderful day at Hamburg's Zoological Gardens, went to Lübeck to watch the new Harry Potter-movie.
We read a lot, played some videogames - We did a trip back in time as I had dug out my ancient SuperNintendo ;) The TV in my in-laws holiday-condo only has five channels. The condo is used only 6 or 8 weeks per year and so it would be a waste of money to have cable service. But the SNES was our sixth channel :hyper:
Today we had a dreadful return trip: We needed a good eight hours  Usually we need five to six, but there was so much traffic on the Autobahn, that at some point we just left it and drove about 150 miles on backroads. We weren't any faster, but we could drive continuously enjoying the landscape instead of stop-and-go every 10 miles. Unfortunately we were so late that we couldn't take part in the elections for the European Parliament - The first time we missed an election since our 18th birthdays.
OK, that should be all for now - Have to check about 10 pages of the thread :p

PS: Michael Schumacher just won the Grand Prix of Canada.
PPS: Just saw the tux-poll: I'll wear mine, but have to have it altered before the cruise. I lost some more weight, and now my tux doesn't fit me anymore.

OK,
I read everything we missed, and we were shocked to hear about your Dad, Mike - 76 is not an age to die at nowadays :sad1: We're feeling with you and Kathy.

Thanks Eric, Hope that you and Anja had a great holiday. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the cruise. Just picked up some new fins at the local dive shop. Kathy and I are going to take a refresher course soon. Mike

Now some 'lighter' topics:

I'm shocked that there are so many Muggles in our group:confused3 We HAVE to change that ::yes::

Talking about golf: We don't play that game - We still have sex :teeth:
And both of us think, that it's only sport if you lose at least a litre of sweat per hour :p
But to be honest: I thought about giving it a try, but Anja considers it as exciting as watching paint dry or grass grow, and as we define marriage as doing everything (Or as much as possible) together, so I dropped that topic.

Jill,
Anja likes to wear some 'hot' clothing too, especially at the tropical night - So you're not alone. BTW, is Chicos a special store? And do you have a link? As we're travelling the South for three weeks before the cruise, we will do some serious shopping ;) It's always tough for Anja to find something in her size as she's slightly about 5 feet tall and weighs about 100 lbs.

Jeanne,
I got the pictures. Will scan them this week and upload them ASAP. I guess I'll be to busy at the office tomorrow, but I'll do my best.

OK,
have to watch the series we taped during our absence. It may be a surprise, but I belong to the rare species of humans who can program a VCR - I even can program most of them without having to use the manual - There must be some weird connections in my grey matter

Our local basketballteam, The Skyliners (Sponsored by Opel, the German GM-dependance) just won the German championship :thewave: But our Ladies' soccerteam lost the title  The've won it for the last five consecutive years and lost it kind of 'last-minute'.
On Tuesday our National Soccerteam (Men's team, of course) plays the first round in the European Championship against 'The evil force from Holland' :jester: The Dutch and the Germans consider each other as being 'The dark side of the force'. You know how it is with close neighbours (I.e. Canada/USA) ;)
Right now England leads 1:0 against the French, but they still have one half to go.

Viking
06-13-2004, 05:07 PM
:thewave: Yabbadabbadooh: The Froggies eventually won the match :thewave: The Tommies still lead 1:0 after 90 minutes when the referee extended the game by 4 minutes. This is a usual occurrence as there's no time-out in soccer to compensate for time lost after fouls, for exchanging players, etc. In minute 2 of the extension the French scored 1:1, and then in the 3rd minute the English keeper fouled a French within 5 meters of the goal, which lead to a penalty-shot. The French took that opportunity to score another goal and won. The English were D-E-V-A-S-T-A-T-E-D :teeth:
I bet on the French winning in our Office-Soccer-Bet, so this should bring me a lot of points :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Welcome back Eric. Even thought the weather didn't cooperate, it looks like you still had a wonderful time. I never realized that the Autoban could have traffic tie ups just like our interstates.

DH will be wearing his suit. We bought it the first time we went on the 7 day cruise and it has served him well. He has 2 shirts and 2 ties to go with it. I am trying to find another fancy top to go with my black shirt that I can wear on the 2nd formal night.

Gosh Mike you sure have had a time with that Saturn VUE. Our saturn is sitting in the driveway stuck in park. It is an automatic transmission and I can't move it out of park for some reason. Norm and DS#2 went golfing and I went to go shopping and wasn't able to move the car. :( Maybe Norm can get it when he gets home. I never had that problem before. If it needs towed that should be interesting since you are to put the car in neutral.
Gosh I hate cars.

DS#2 just called and said they are finished golfing which is my cue to start dinner.

Later everyone.

Eric and Anja! Welcome back. Tell Anja there is a web site for chicos... www.chicos.com - I believe that is what it is. I visited the store for the first time yesterday. I found some things that I liked, and the travel items were very nice, but a bit much for my cruise budget at this point. I am still struggling with the "should I dress like a middle aged woman now or look like a 30 something in teenybopper clothes?" Not that middle aged is bad by any means, I never thought the clothing transition would be as difficult as the age transition. Well enough of my rambling. The clothes at chicos are nice, if you run across one in the south, it would be worth looking at (although nothing would be considered hot, but practical with style!)

By the way...we are finally in double digits!!!!

Welcome back Eric and Anja. Thank you for your kind words about our former president. Anyone who has endured though caring for a loved one with such a horriable disease has my deepest sympathy.
We also lost Ray Charles this week:(

Hello CheesePlease, always nice to hear from you!

We had an interesting Saturday. We went canoeing on a river we have done several times before. It is usually a 3 hour "easy" trip with just a few tricky spots. But this time it was MUCH different. The River (The Ashepoo River) is a "tidal river" and for the first time we paddeled it when it was low tide. This made the "tricky spots" a little tougher then normal, but we were doing pretty well, but not making very good time. Then we realised the tide was going in (so we were paddeling against the current) unlike our previous trips. After about 3 hours the kids kept falling behind and we realized they were getting pretty tired. A boat went by and we asked how far it was to the bridge (our end point) and we were told at least another hour! Then the wind stated picking up (blowing us backward) and a storm started building. Add to this it was getting late (about 6pm) and I started to get worried.
Just as I started to get panicked thinking we would have to "tow" the kids, paddeling against the current, in the rain AND in the dark, a boat came by. We asked if the could please help us by towing the 2 canoes to the bridge. They agreed and tied us on to the boat. WELL...it took an HOUR to get to the bridge being TOWED! We were so greatful as we we really tired! we got back to the bridge about 15 min before the rain caught us and about 30 min before the sun went down. OH! I forgot to mention we saw alligators the whole trip!
Lesson learned....check the tides before any more canoe trips!

papa

Thanks Dave and Ellen.

Mary glad that everything turned out ok on the canoe trip. Take care and don't paddle too hard girl, don't want you winding up in the er with a stroke or something.

Peter & Jenn -- Cool trip! How I envy you - seems as tho you are always at WDW. What did you have to eat at Flying Fish?

Didn't know you could get a day pass at VB, and we have an ownership there. Just curious -- how do you get one? We are going to Vero for a couple of days after the cruise and will be staying in the Inn so we don't need one. Just curious. Will visit with my BIL & SIL who live right off A1A about a mile north of VB-DVC. Did you really see a shark there? There was a recent thread on the DVC board about people seeing rats and snakes on property at VB. I haven't been to VB for several years ever since we were there during the great crab invasion. They were everywhere and scared me to death. They had to keep sweeping the crabs off the back porch and some even got into the Inn's underground garage. Something to do with mating season and the crabs moving between the Indian River and the ocean. They were all different colors -- blue, red, black, etc. Yuck!

Sorry that you forgot your swimsuit, Jenn, but how cool to get a new one from Disney! How was the selection at AKL? All animal prints?

Day pass At Vero...

Well they do not allow this..... But since we thought that we could as dvc members use any resort at any time ?
Got Granted the pass as none of the Castmembers
knew the official anwser .. got the benefit of the Dought..and Day pass was granted ...

But check out this thread... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=587885

Ok We stayyed at the Board walk For the first night on points since we dont like to use points for weekend nights stays we used annual pass holders rate and decided to stay at the New French Quarter... figured we have been so many time does not matter anymore.. So for $77.0 per night we got to stay at POFQ
changed at the last minute to Save money ... From the Boardwalk Annual passholders rate of $215.00 per night...
actually I got Wilderness lodge for $124.00 and then got the POFQ.. so we ended up there..... saved enough money to Get Airfare to Florida !!!!!!!! and Stayying at POFQ did not affect the Vacation expierence.. Jen likes it there...
I LIKE THE BOARDWALK......

But Jen Wins !!!! Always... lol And She Should....

So it was from the one Suit they had at the POFQ black with a mickey head in white. ... old one was at the end of its life she said so was happy to get a new $40.00 suit at the Gift shop...

oh Yeah POFQ is VERY NICE...

When we Dined at the Flying Fish I had the Steak it is the Best oak grilled crusted steak u will find on Disney property....
Better than Yuachts mans (SP) Jen had some fish I forget it was Excellent Also they have a new Chef who is making some Changes to the menu .. We also had a lobster salad app.. Excellent... And Cesar salad.. and Suoffle Chocolate .. Excelent..

Gosh if you are using my oven space, does that mean I need to clean it before you get there.

Well, Eric you and Anja have backed yourself into a corner with this group. You might be better off just staying on the boat while we are at CC as you are a marked man.

Peter--- We just were at POFQ in May and loved the new room renovations. It has always been one of my favorite resorts. I felt the layout of the room made it feel even bigger than the room we had at AKL in Dec. Interesting thread about the pool hopping at VB. Even though we are DVC members have not stayed at a DVC property in the past 2 years. Used all my points for DCL. We also went over to Saratoga Springs Resort to check it out. Since OKW is our home resort, we liked that SSR is spread out like OKW. It just was very hot the day we were there and since it is new not much shade anywhere.

Time to go home from work.

Nancy

OK Folks,
it was fun jesting with you. Gotta catch some Zs now, it's midnight over here. I want to be at the office at 730am tomorrow to be able to leave in time for some running in the afternoon and to get home early enough to watch the Battle of all Battles: Germany vs. The Netherlands. Although I'm afraid that our boys may get their butts kicked badly :( They've been in bad shape lately, but who knows as they usually change their attitude completely as soon as an important tournament has started.

I had used the vouchers while a chaperone for my daughters class trip years ago, I think they are great.

I joined hotwire and purchased the Q&C vouchers for our week at WDW after the cruise. I will be ordering a few more dinner vouchers this week. With the exception of the rental car I know have everything paid for for the week at WDW following the cruise.... Yippie...

Welcome back Eric and Anja. Glad that you had a good time even though the weather didn't always cooperate.

Very funny goofynut.

It's getting hot here again which means the humidity is up.

Announcer for the Jays has a brain tumour which was operated on on Sunday but they couldn't remove it all. Hopefully he'll be ok. His Dad died last week and it was the first time since the Jays started in 1977 that he missed announcing a Jays game -- over 4,300 games. An amazing streak.

How do the vouchers work? We can't get them here in Canada so was just wondering.

I also have a question about the vouchers. Where do you get them? How much to they cost? How do they work? I went to hotwire.com but either that is the wrong place or I didn't know where to look because I couldn't find anything about meal vouchers.

piglet33

It's at http://www.hotwiresavingsclub.com/hsc/index.asp

I got my 4 day hopper plus tickets there for $208.96 including shipping. I thought that was a great deal since I haven't seen them any cheaper anyplace else. I also got a $10 rebate on my first purchase so that made them cheaper yet.

I am also looking into the meal vouchers. There is a big thread on that on the budget board. I'll post the link when I find it.

Hi Guys,

I think the meal vouchers are great if..... you are a huge lunch eater (or dinner/lunch at Rain forest cafe) or you share a meal. For $ 11.50 ea you get any entree you want, side order , drink and desert. Some food places the value is exceptional other places so so... For me, it is one more thing paid for in advance. Mom and I will usually share a meal and perhaps get an extra salad so it is a good deal...

You can buy dinner only vouchers that are only good at sit down restaurants for around $32.00 ??? .

I will be ordering the rest of my vouchers later this week so if anyone wants to get a few let me know and I would be glad to order them for you along with mine. The vouchers right now expire May 2005.

Thanks for the offer Kim. I might take you up on it since I don't believe that they will ship to Canada -- we've had various threads on the Cdn board about it.

Renee -
We got our 4 day PHPs there too....at $204 and some change, you can't beat it!

We purchased some Q&C meal vouchers (11.50 ea), breakfast vouchers (18.50) and Kingdom lunch vouchers (31.00 each). We LOVE to eat, but since the cruises will be following our WDW days, we didn't want to gorge on food, but it will be nice to have a prepaid good lunch at HBD, breakfast at Kona and CP and some fast food at Yakatori or B&C (and a few nice dinners). A friend at work will be at WDW the same time we will be, so I figure they'll want some, so we may rejoin (for the 30 trial period) get a few more, just in case, then cancel again.

It is worth a look at least.....with the 30 day free trial, you can either cancel right away if you don't like it, or get what you want and get out!

Oh, look! I can make my PS's soooo soon!

New kind of list possible

I'll get a Hewlett Packard IPAQ PocketPC in about four weeks. I intend to porduce a special PDA-version of The List - Either as a PDF or a document for MS Word for PocketPC. Anyone interested?
This would be a possibility to have the List hnady whenever you need it. Withsearch and editing functions, etc.
Just give me you feedback.

The PDA was a special offer. In Germany all magazine battle for subscriptions. The more subscribers they have, the more money they can get for ads. Usually they offer premiums like phones, bicycles, cameras, etc. The value of the the premium must -by law- never be higher than the value of the subscription. Usually you have to sign a one- or two-year contract. The magazine we subscribed to is €120 per year, the PDA costs about €270, Anja ordered the magazine for a year, I get the PDA for €154. Subscriber and recipient of the premium must be different according to the law. The magazine is one we read anyway - BTW, if we bought it at the newsstand we would have to pay about €140 per year.
Usually we cancel the subscription after a year and as soon as they have a new attractive premium we subscribe again. This magazine ('Der Stern', comparable to 'Time') we have subscribed now for the sixth time :p They gace us a Wireless phone with answering machine, a Sega Dreamcast, a stereo with Dolby-Surround, a Nintendo GameBoy SP, a sportswatch with heartrate-monitor, and now the PDA.
They're so keen on getting your signature that after the cancellation they usually call and ask you to withdraw it and offer you a premium. It's a crazy world, isn't it

Still 1:0 for our boys :Pinkbounc Unfortunately I can't see the finish of the match: I have to pick up Anja at the hospital - She's doing the lateshift :(

Viking
06-15-2004, 05:09 PM
 In the second I left our house the Dutch scored a goal and so the match ended 1:1 :sad2:

Those are neat premiums Eric. Usually here with Time you're offered a watch or some sort of sports bag, at least here in Canada.

Well the last day of school was yesterday and he writes 2 exams tomorrow so just one more day of dragging him out of bed. The really funny part of this is that he did finally get a job with the reserves for the summer at the base here which is great. The funny part is that he has to be there for 8am!! I asked how he was going to get there and he said bus. I couldn't help laughing and said how in the world are you going to leave here around 7am? He said he'd do it. We'll see though.

Must go and get ready for work.

We just returned from our 3.5mile-run: Anja finished in 30:30, I did 27:32. This means that Anja averaged considerably less than 9 minutes per mile, and I was slightly under 8 minutes per mile :Pinkbounc :bounce: There were 49,300 people running with us:earseek: we needed 19 minutes alone to get from our start-position to the start-line, but could start running from there on immediately. We had to pass thousands of people enroute, zigzaggin' through the crowds, but it was fun. After passing the finish line we used our cell-phones to find each other and then went to join our group, have some water and some bananas.
Now all we want is a shower and our bed ::yes:: But we have to have a large candybar before that :cake:

Just checking in, I am taking a few minutes break from working on the house.

The move date is now set for July 10th to move to our new lab. Of course the lab is not even built yet... Oh well we will see how well the builder does under pressure.

I have just been going off Barb's most recent navigators from the Eastern to see what the themed nites will be. Regardless, we wanted Palo for our last night. Eric - REAS is the romantic escape at sea. It's a package that lets your make reservations for Palo and spa before getting to the ship. Plus a few extras.

Jill - hope Debbie is as nice as everyone says. I had to leave a voicemail, so will give her a few days then call back. I just want to get everything done on one of our at sea days so I don't have to rush. We were thinking of Palo's for the last day (our actual anniv. day) but didn't want to be in a hurry to leave CC. Last time there we were whipped!

Wow! Was she for real?

twhipple - Thanks so much for the info. I decided to call again, early and surprise! Debbie answered and has to be, without a doubt the nicest person I have EVER talked to on the phone! Got all the ressies made, she asked if we wanted to switch to late seating since 90% of adults w/no kids eat late. I told her last cruise we ate late and never saw another part of the ship as we ended up going straight to bed! We are determined to see the clubs this time!

jeanneg - Debbie did not ask about rotation because we are tied to the early seating DIS table. I took my chances on the Palo, and the only reason we would change on the ship is if the formal night gets moved to our Palo night. Can't waste my new dress! And apparently the Quiet Cove is the old teen place, changed to a library, coffe area for adults and the kids are in the stack. No more ESPN bar! Chris was devastated! No big beers! Well, lot's of errands before i go to work. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, ours starts tomorrow...:thewave:

jeanneag,
I am also VERY shy. My husband got me a half day at a spa a few years ago. The person doing the massage was a guy and I thought it would be weird and freaky. You get undressed and on the table and cover with a monster sheet. They knock before coming in too see if you are ready. It was very professional and they don't expose more than your legs (not too high up!), shoulders arms and back (laying face down of course!) I have only done the one but can't see Disney offering anything WEIRD, so I think it will be a great, RELAXING day!

cdnmickeylover

I can echo that about the spa. My mother got me a gift certificate a few years back and that's exactly how it was. I actually kept my panties on during the massage. It was pretty nice. I also had a facial which I think I fell asleep during and then a manicure and a pedicure. It was interesting but not something I'd repeat I'm afraid. One of the few people probably who didn't enjoy the spa experience but then I don't like people picking at my hands and feet. The massage part was probably the best part of the day though.

You will have a good time during the massage but don't plan anything strenuous afterwards because you'll probably feel like going to sleep!

It's raining here today although it's supposed to clear up later.

Thanks for the REAS explanation.

We're also not into the spa thing, we only go there to work out in the gym, use the treadmill or do an aerobics class.

And we don't care for Palo's. Did that on our second cruise and didn't like it very much. We prefer to spend all seven nights at our table.

Jeanne,
I don't fall for that 'Sherman-Tank'-trap :teeth: Getting threatened to be killed on CC once this week was enough for me :jester: But I suspect that remark about you needing lots of schnaps was aimed in my direction :hyper: We'll bring max 2 litres, because that's what US-Customs allow - And we'll have to lug that stuff 2000 miles and three weeks through three States.
But we'll bring some for you, because you're the first American so far who spells it correctly with one 'p' only - And that deserves a reward ::yes::

OK, I've stopped hyperventilating....for the moment. It's just one of those things that I really WANT to do, but am scared because #1: I'm very modest and #2: I've never done before it so I'm not sure what to expect. I think I'll do as Fiona and keep the panties on. (weird conversation.....!)

Eric: I joke around alot, but please know all the schnaps remarks are purely in jest. Certainly I don't expect you to carry any additional baggage....the luggage and weight restrictions are bad enough without further burdening yourselves.

Sharon, Denise, twipple: Got the spa ressie for 2:15 on Thursday which is the sea day and just after our group brunch. Decided to do Palo that evening as well and asked Debbie if it was Captain's Gala night (also known as lobster night) and she said no, but looking at other sites it appears like she may have been wrong(????) I dunno, at least I have the spa thing set in place......I can call in a few weeks and confirm the Palo night thing. She also did not ask about dining rotation because it's already tied to the group.

I'm still confused about the Cove Cafe.....is that the old Common Grounds? I could have sworn that the person who posted all those pictures said it was on deck 2 where the reading/game room was. Anybody able to shed light on this?

Gotta go, boy, do I GOTTA GO!! Leaving for our flight to NY (son's movie, remember?) in 2 1/2 hours and I still haven't packed! DH just called and said he's on his way home......if he walks in and finds me on the computer, I'm dead........be back next week....Happy Father's Day to all the dads!!!

Jeanne,
there are virtually no luggage restrictions for us: On transatlantic flights every passenger is allowed to bring two backs of 32 kg each (~70lbs), plus two carry-ons of 5 kg (11 lbs) which comes to a total of about 300 lbs. Usually we travel to the USA with a large suitcase, a large bag and another two empty bags for our shopping - On teh return flight we have three large bags and a large suitcase then:p This year we'll come with our usual suitcase and bag, plus one empty bag, plus one bag full of gifts for our old and new friends.
And lugging it around isn't a problem either - Or why do you think I work out five times a week? pirate:

And I know how you meant your schnaps-remark - I was just pulling your modest, shy leg :teeth:

Call me wierd but my idea of relaxing is lounging on the CC beach or hanging around on Deck 4 on one of those lounge chairs watching the water swish by! Never could get into the spa thing.

Eric ... what makes you think that was "Art the _art" doing the little dance to post #2800? Maybe it was Fred or Barney Flintstone with their Blue Furry Lodge Hat on!

Geez Kim ... sounds like you have your hands full with the new lab. Good Luck!

Peter ... Loved that link to the Bathing Suit Granny ... laughed my butt off. The visual is just too much!

Everybody else ... :wave2: ... hope all is well with you.

Ok, this is a weird conversation! I got the spa tester instead because I get a little weirded out too with the full body massage and I LOVE facials so we get the back side done (that's ok, doesn't bother me too much) and get the facial as well. What time is the group brunch/lunch and who do we tell we want to come? We've got the spa at 9:15, but I don't want to miss the seafood buffet.

Apparently the weather in the NY area is so bad they've cancelled all of the flights going out this evening. The best we could get was a 5:50a.m. flight tomorrow morning. My husband was all for ditching the flight altogether and driving up instead, but then we'd be wasted all day tomorrow. At least this way we'll get a few good hours of sleep in our own bed and be refreshed on the morning........I'm just so looking forward to my NY bagel!

Just checked with Ciara and she didn't get Sarah's e-mail. She was asking the other nite about her and wondering if they would speak again before the cruise.

Tryng to figure out the Antigua excursions, to keep my mind off Grams. One day up, next day down. Today isn't looking too good, she seems to be retaining carbon monoxide. Maybe one of you wonderful nurses can enlighten me as to what causes this and its consequences in an 85 year old??

You sure about that carbon monoxide:confused: Usually it is produced only in incomplete combustion processes, like in a cigarette, smoldering fires, or combustion engines of the pre-catalyst era. May be it's carbon dioxide you're talking about?

Welcome back Eric and Anja, glad you had a nice trip. We missed you. :)
Kim, Sent you a PM. Not sure if your puter tells you that. Mine does.
Ciadriamom, Eric is right, your grandmother is not getting rid of enough carbon dioxide. Which is the gas that we breath out. In the lungs oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide, which is the "waste" given to the red blood cells as the travel around the body giving oxygen to the cells. There can be lots of reasons for this. Decreased lung capasity, decreased blood circulation, damaged lung tissue, and so forth. The important thing is to remind you grandmother to breath though her nose (if she has nasal oxygen tubing). It is very common for people with low oxygen levels to become very anxious, and confused. Hope this answers your question.

Hi Ave,
do you use nasal tubes only? If patients have trouble adjusting their breathing habits, we use a facemask covering mouth and nose and then try to get them used to the nasal thing step by step.

I got a raise, too: I was granted a temporary raise from January til June, which came as an extra to my regular salary, but didn't count for my annual bonus. With effect from July it is now part of my regular salary and thus will also have impact on my annual bonus ::yes::

Gas prices have dropped considerably over here: About 10% less than two weeks ago. But everybody suspects that they're just giving us a short break before raising them again when summer vacation starts and demand rises.

This week Apple iTunes went online in France, UK & Germany. I just downloaded and installed it. Now we can download music without having a bad conscience ;) After trying it I think I'm going to get me an iPod in the USA. They're so cheap over there: In Germany the 15GB-iPod comes at €400 ($480), in the States I can get it for $280 (€220) :earseek:

Which one: 4GB, 15GB, 20GB or 40GB? I'm interested in the 15GB-version and that I found on the BestBuy-website for $299, but Amazon.com's got it for $277.

Eric...Sarah has a 15GB--it was $299.00 but Best Buy has a deal that if you see the price lower either at another store or through coupons, they will make good on the price within one month. When we bought it,we paid $299.00 then the following week, we get coupons in the mail for 10% off of any electronic--didn't know if they would honor this or not, so Sarah and I trek off to Best Buy and they guy said "no problem" so we saved an additional $31.80 with tax! She loves hers and will have it with her on the cruise (she always carries a book, her IPod and a CD player in her purse--no money (I guess that's what she has me for!!) but all of her electronic gadgets!!

AAARRRRGGGHHHH! Our computer has been taken over by pop up ad's! We are know nothing about computers, so I have to wait for my dad to come back from his camping trip to figure out what is going on! It takes FOREVER for anything to work and for pages to load....oddly enough, almost all the pop up ads are for "is your computer getting overrun by pop ups and running slow?" How wierd is that! (Also, I never knew there could be so many diet patches out there!) So, I will have to deal with my DIS widthdrawl....the problem with the ads has been going on for over a week now, but it is getting worse. Had to vent. Hopefully, this will get fixed soon. My normal quick dis fixes are taking forever!

Guess this means I'll have to start reading more!

When I use aol on our computer I don't have a problem with the pop up issue. However, if I just go in under internet explorer we did have that problem, DS #2 installed some sort of pop up buster program to stop it from happening. I'm not computer savy either so can't tell you how he did it.

We are leaving this afternoon to go to my neice's wedding. She is getting married at 6pm on a Riverboat. Should be interesting. This is my strange sister's daughter (you know how every family has a strange relative mine is my one sister). So as my other sister says this will be more than a wedding it will be an Adventure.

I think in Antigua we are going to do the island tour.

Thank you very much for the info, MaryJo.
It is unbelievable how much cheaper all the Apple-stuff is in the USA :earseek: I just checked out the price for the 15GB-pod, the Media-reader (To transfer digital pics from memorycards), and the Monster-Cable (A car-charger/FM-transmitter to hook up the pod to the car-stereo). All those components together cost less in the States than the pod alone in Germany
I'll probably order it from Amazon and have it sent to Mary (RellingTwin). I did the same last year with my digicam: Ir ordered it from Amazon and had it sent to a friend of mine in Denver. AS I already have an Amazon-account this is the most comfortable way to do it. They have those special rebates from time to time, too. Additionally the grapevine says that there may be a considerable price-drop for all I-pods in the making. Perhaps I even buy two and sell one on ebay in Germany: I just checked ebay and the 15GBs usually go for €360, which would bring me a profit of €140 :teeth: But I don't wanna risk to get into trouble with the German Customs.

Have a good trip

This site requires you to install a software on your PC. THIS SOFTWARE CONTAINS A VIRUS!!!! Fortunately my system identified and blocked it. It is a trojan-type virus, which will spy out your PC and then send the data it obtained to the originator of the virus.

Probably not a virus. It's "more than likely" adware, spyware or scumware.

I have to routinely sponge off this kind of stuff when The Resident Teenager decides to surf through 'adult' sites or downloads new music/software, etc. It can also be installed by the ActiveX component of your Windows in something that's becoming more popular every day called a 'drive-by download'... you surf to a site and that causes their site to install this garbage.

The two free pieces of software that I use are:

1) Ad-Aware. www.lavasoft.com.

Sure Pétér no problem. All you have to do is upload the pic to the DIS Picture Gallery (like you did with Shelby's pic). Instead of putting the pic of Maisy in your signature, just copy the URL in your message. Don't forget to put the "" at the beginning of the URL and the "" at the end (without quotes). Kim,

this is the little bugger: "TrojanDropper.Win32.FunWeb.a" I just looked it up in the history of my virus-scanner.
How often do you update your system? Are you sure that you have the newest version?
I refresh my virus-updates at least twice a week, have a firewall installed, and scan my complete PC including my 240GB-diskspace once a month. It may sound paranoid, but so far I kept my system clean.

Peter,

Maisy is one adorable puppy. I know I would never have been able to leave her when I saw her too.

About the pics, here is a link to the guidelines:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=332080

Yes you are over the limit since we are only allowed 400 pixels in any direction.

I resized the pics that you have in your signature. PM me your email address, and I'll send them to you. You can use them if you want, no big deal if you find another way to post them or if someone else has a better idea that what I did.

We're taking my Dad out for brunch so I won't be around, but I'll check later to see if you want me to send the pics to you.

Peter and Jen...congrats on your new babies! very CUTE!!

Just home from seeing Tom Hanks in "Terminal". Very funny movie. Tom Hanks is such a great actor. I just love him! I took the kids to see Harry Potter yesterday. Also a great movie!

Ave, did you get Mark a camera? I am sorry to hear about your doggy.

Eric, (or anyone who is a tech junkie) what is the difference between a "Plasma" TV and a High Def. TV. Or are they the same?
We are dying to get one of the flat screen TV but will probably wait a year or so until the price drops. Anyone already have one? If so, any recommendations as to brand to buy?

Viking
06-21-2004, 03:47 AM
Mary,
a plasma-TV can be a HDTV (HighDefinitionTV), it depends on the available resolution it can display. I thought about buying one too, but will wait. For us Germans -or also for the UK- the step forward in picture-quality is not as big as for Americans anyway, because our PAL-system is superior to your NTSC-We had the advantage of converting from black'n'white to colour later, thus implementing a more advanced system..
The price-forecast for plasma-screens says that the prices will kind of level off this year. For another big pricedrop you'll have to wait probably another year or so.
If I'd live in the USA, I would buy one soon, but in the UK or in Germany I will wait. And it also depends on the TV you have now. We have a 100Hz-Sony 30inch-screen, which is very advanced and only about 5 years old, so there's no real need to replace it i Uufortuantely ;)

Peter and Jenn, your new puppies are adorable.

I definitely know how you feel about losing Shelby this spring. We've had two parakeets for 10 years and this morning lost Skyler. I know he was old for a parakeet, but it doesn't make it hurt less. I feel worse for Carson, the one who is left. It was his best buddy since they were at the pet shop.

I had to work, but my DH was there with his friends. He has awsome seats at the top of the first turn. Although he wasn't to thrilled with the way Schumacher took the lead, he said it was a great race. Beautiful day too....especially with all the rain and heat we have had the past week.

Hi Fiona
Yeah, single-digits sounds great, but unfortunately it's nearly three months til we fly, and well over three til the cruise :(
I intend to make a cellphone-check with you before the cruise, I'll mail you about it. Just to make sure that our rendezvous on the Interstate works out. But I guess this won't be a problem.
Next Saturday we'll go to Aschaffenburg in Bavaria to do some extensive shopping, to continue buying the gifts for all our American & Canadian friends. This way we make sure that we don't forget anything. I just hope we don't get into trouble with the U.S. Customs;) But as most of the stuff could be defined as 'normal' travel-accessories, we won't gift-wrap it before we're in one of our hotels:teeth: this should keep us out of calamities. Of course will put all the schnaps on the customs-form:drinking1

That's great!! I would have loved to be there, too!!! IMHO Schumacher's passing of his teammate was OK, but although I'm a big Schumi-fan, I would like to see him lose a bit more often. This kind of one-man-show is killing Formula One. Winning 8 races out of 9 makes the whole season very boring. If he continues like that, he'll be worldchampion after the 12th race, and that wouldn't be good for the sport.

Congrats Renee on post #1000. Never thought I'd hit that point either.

One of the lawyers here is into car racing and he was at the Indy race. He said that he had a great time and that the weather was really nice. Not sure where he sat though -- it was the same lawyer that went over to Germany for the race last summer. He looks much happier after the break.

My niece and nephew were over yesterday. That was a riot as I showed my nephew where the dog cookies were. He kept giving the dog cookies til she was turning her nose up at them. Then he decided to bath a couple of the cookies in her water bowl. I believe that's the first time our dog has turned down a cookie so that was funny. DSIL has another month to go until the second nephew arrives. She's ready any day though now. :p

Have to finish up here and get home. Take care everyone and we will soon be down to DOUBLE digits.

You might need one that has more bells and whistles. I don't think the free ones let you do all the resizing stuff. They just tease you and get you to like them so you'll spend the money on the full versions.

Now that we are getting closer I wonder if anyone is thinking about doing the unlimited internet package. We are looking for a 3rd person to split the package with. I must warn, it IS sort of against the rules to "share" a package, but we did it last year and it worked out fine. While I don't plan on spending as much time on the computer while on vacation as I do while at home, I want to be able to check my mail, post a message or 2 to the Dis Boards, and send a few e-mails. I can't wait to see what the logo looks like.

Reneé

Viking

Reading about the logo I had an idea:
We have some printers here at the office which print in colour on paper-rolls of about 3 to 4 feet wide. We always joke about us now being able to print our own wallpaper :jester:
Now my idea: What about printing our logo like it is on the letterhead of The List. Say about 2-3 feet high and 6-8 feet wide and use it to 'mark our territory' during the sail-away-party :teeth: I guess that would drive the castmembers nuts
If I roll it up it should survive the three weeks before the cruise being lugged around.

Jeanne - so sorry about your bad luck in New York. Did you pay for the hotel in advance and was it so bad that you couldn't even stay there? Did you ever get your luggage back?

As for the DVC get-together, you probably won't get an invitation if you didn't book on points, but the meeting should be in the Navigator and you can just go without being invited.

Hey everyone!

Congrats to everyone on the new "babies". I love dogs, but I couldn't do the puppy stage again. Cole is 4 1/2, so I don't anticipate another dog for a few years, but if I were to get another one, I would probably rescue a 4 or 5 year old from a shelter, or a rescue, or something.

Eric--great idea about the sign.

Mary Jo--I pm'd you. Thanks for the note.

Jeanne G--sorry to hear about your NY trip. An experience like that can ruin any future plans to a place. E.G. My MIL took a Hawaiian cruise & continued to Vancouver. She hated it! It was a "seniors cruise" (at a time when she wasn't willing to be considered a "senior"), and the weather going to Vancouver was bad, water was rough. So, of course, she'll never consider a cruise again. Too bad. She doesn't know the fun she's missing. (But, an open stateroom for me!);)

This is just going to be a real quicky (no laughing Eric!).... I worked till about ll PM last night on the logo and as soon as I am happy with the Mickey, I'll confer with my staff -- Mike and Eric and send out a "proof" to get everyone's approval.

Sorry I missed your birthday Jennifer ... hope it was happy. Then again I see you are a new "mom" ... boy are you lucky! They are adorable.

Love everyone's "fur" kids pictures. My DD, AshLee spent last night in her "room" cause it had something to do with the garbage. Her "dad" even took pictures of the evidence before my nice fella cleaned it up. She's feeling better ... maybe that's what happened!

Eric - love the idea of a banner. Like they won't figure it out REAL QUICK on WHO'S BACK! Will be great too for the group photo.

Speaking of group photo ... Kim ... How about making us number tags to hold up for one shot out of someone's camera - not the professional's. Then we can write our names on the number slip and give them to you for when the professional pictures is done you won't have to ask us who is who? Just a thought.

Really busy with work and other odds and ends right now ... would love to be on the boards more BUT......

Just spoke to Mike and he said he got his 'puter back and they were able to retrieve his memory. He was on the way to Saturn to get his Vue.

We had gotten an internet "special" which had to be cancelled 3 days prior to arrival in order to get any sort of a refund. We were supposed to arrive Thursday evening, but our flight was cancelled and we couldn't take off until Friday morning, hence the unused night. This really didn't bother me that much because I knew the terms of the agreement and accepted them willingly and it wasn't the hotel's fault that our flight was cancelled. Besides we did want our room immediately when we arrived and not wait until standard check-in time, so that wasn't the issue. What got my blood boiling (among other things) was the fact that when we returned from the theatre at 1:30 a.m. and we discovered that my luggage had not yet been found, this supposedly 3-star hotel claimed that they did not provide emergency toiletries such as a toothbrush, etc. and sent us over to the Duane Reade on 42nd St. at 1:30 in the morning ! Now I'll admit that Times Square is ALOT better than it used to be, but still at that hour most of the people are their because they either "work" the street at night or they literally have no place else to go. The list goes on and on but personally I just prefer to put it all behind me and go on. Rest assured, the Milford Plaza (that lovely "Lullaby on Broadway") will never get another penny of my money.
And yes, my luggage finally arrived.......we got a call from the bellhop a little before 11 p.m. on Saturday night that we needed to come down and sign for it! And that was after we told them at around 5p.m. that evening when it was located in Philadelphia to please just send it back to Raleigh and we'd pick it up at the airport when we got back Sunday afternoon! It's a miracle we got it back at all.

JeanneG,
your trip reminds me of the following joke:

A gentlemen says to the clerk at the airline's check-in counter: 'I'd like to fly from Frankfurt to New York, but I want my luggage to travel from Frankfurt via Dubai and Tokyo to Sydney, Australia!'
The clerk replies: 'I'm sorry, Sir, but we can't do that!'
The guy: 'That's strange, because you did exactly the same thing last year!!!' :teeth:

Ha,ha......that would be funny if it wasn't true! Mine went from Raleigh to Dallas, back to Raleigh via one airline; it was then switched to my original carrier (we had been rebooked on a different airline) who sent it to Philadelphia and then on to NYC ...after we had told them to send it back home! And to think this was handed over to the person at the GATE.......If only my luggage could have earned Frequent Flier miles on its own!

Well since we are talking about lost luggage -- it wasn't my luggage that was lost but a friends. We were in Switzerland flying from Geneva to somewhere in Spain (can't remember exactly). Anyway her luggage was lost -- how this happened nobody could figure out since it was a class trip with about 50 students and all our luggage went onto luggage carts as we checked in. Anyways her luggage got lost -- it went to Montreal (where she lived) and back to Switzerland (where we were in school) finally about 3 weeks after we got back.

The funny part was that at the end of the trip we went to the lost and found at the airline in Madrid. There was a huge side of beef (looked like half a cow) in the lost and found room!! You could smell it as you went into the room. We couldn't figure out why someone would be travelling with a side of beef and how they could possibly have lost it!

Perhaps you'd better write your flight# on a 100$-bill and give it together with your bags to the person at the gate :jester:

But I know how you feel: Wenn we flew to the USA on 09/15/01 in the turmoil after 9-11, we had to switch planes, pass customs & immigration and literally run to our connecting flight in less than 60 minutes total. We made it, but our bags didn't. We always have some clean clothes in our carry-on to be prepared for things like this, but the castmember at ASMovies gave us some curious looks when we checked in coming from Germany with our grocery bags and carry-on only ;) Fortunately our luggage came with the next plane and was delivered to the front-desk two hours later when we were already fast asleep. At 7am when we woke up I called them and 5 minutes later we had all our stuff.
It was even kind of comfortable not having to lug all that stuff from the airport to the hotel, but nevertheless it made us kind of nervous :p

Jeanne--great idea about Frequent Flyer Miles for the luggage. I guess that would be like having the dog as a dependent on my health insurance?

Nice surprise at work today!

There are 11 assistants in the office. Our manager was out of the office for "Professional Administrative Assistant's Day" (or whatever they're calling Secretary's Day now). For those of you who are foreigners, it's the 3rd Wednesday in April.

Anyway, because Tim was out of the office, he decided to treat us today.

Each of us got a 15-MINUTE CHAIR MASSAGE!!!! How cool is that???

He hired a masseuse. How nice is that!

Jean, Sorry about your NY trip. I will never be able to figure out how the luggage gets lost in the first place. People on plane, bags on plane. People off plane, bags off plane. Seems pretty simple to me. ;)

Here some info from the National Weather Service (USA)

NOAA’s 2004 Atlantic hurricane season outlook indicates a 50% probability of an above-normal hurricane season, a 40% probability of a near-normal season, and a 10% chance of a below-normal season, according to a consensus of scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC), the Hurricane Research Division (HRD), and the National Hurricane Center (NHC). See NOAA’s definitions of above-, near-, and below-normal seasons.

The outlook calls for 12-15 tropical storms, with 6-8 becoming hurricanes, and 2-4 of these becoming major hurricanes. These numbers reflect a predicted ACE index in the range of 100%-160% of the median, and indicate a likely continuation of above-normal activity that began in 1995.

And here comes a link to a page which takes special care of the weather in the Caribbean: CLICK HERE (http://www.caribwx.com/)

They also cite above-mentioned forcast, but interpret it a bit more exactly: The hurricane activity will probably be above average considering the last 30 to 50 years, but below average considering the last 10 years.
And this is good news for the storm-stricken amongst us: All CruisEars and all Floyd-survivors.

Okay, I've been on this board for a while. Time to get personal (a little).

Eric--Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer? What is that? How do I get in on some of that action?

Reneé--who is that sweet looking girl on the motorbike?

Mary & Avé--I've figured out that you're twins. Not much gets past me ;) but is there a familial relationship to Eric & Anja?

A: Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer? is the same as Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, played in the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the ship. Contestants for the Hot Seat are picked randomly from the audience. You only have 8 or 9 questions instead of the 15 on the TV-show, the top-prize being the free cruise. All questions are Disney-related, you've got the three lifelines, etc. I made it to the end and won the free cruise. Not bad for a non-native speaker, Huh?:D And of course you have to be in the right seat at the right moment. To be honest, it was Anja's number which was drawn, but she gave me a big shove and sent me onto the stage. To be really honest: I didn't need that shove :teeth:
B: This is Haley, Renee's DD.
C: Mary and Ave' are my virtual sisters :p Mary made me honorary brother, so now I'm elegible for a rebate in a hotel in Charleston.
D: If you're not sure how to pronounce Anja's name, it sounds like UNYAH.

OK I sent out a draft for the back of the shirts to Mike, Eric, and Bette (cause it was her idea) and being the "tech dummy" that I am, I saved it in the Disney program I have. I'll try again tonite by pasting into word!

Since asked ... idea for the back for the "newbies" ... how about
"My First Cruisetoberfest" circling an appropriate clipart? I had tossed around the idea of "Cruisetoberfest Virgin" but then we don't want anyone thrown overboard at the Sail-A-Way do we?

Too busy here. Finally got today's urgent stuff done and now have to see what's going to become urgent for tomorrow.

I like all the names for the back of the tshirts and like the idea of something on the back. That way we can be picked out no matter which direction we are standing.

Back to work. Thankful that tomorrow is Friday although next week is going to be even worse.

I like them all, but I REALLY like the "I'm Back"/"I'll Be Back" variation.....very clever, Eric! I like the fact that it makes the two different slogans look like part of a set. Now of course you could have "Newbie" and "Veteran" and that would look like a set, but I much prefer to wear "I'll Be Back" over "Newbie".......it's got such an optimistic connotation!

How much room do we have to use on the back?

I think Cruisetoberfest anything is going to be too long, or it'll be so small, no one will see it.

Perhaps we should think of something for everyone

Addicted
Hooked on (Cap't Hook?)
Dedicated
Fanatic

Or maybe (I just thought of this)--this is the 3rd Cruisetoberfest, right?

How about Freshman for the newbies, Sophomore for 2nd-timers, and Upperclassman for the originals. Or Freshman & Alumni.

Hi everyone! I haven't been on here in a while and trying to catch up on all the latest. It sounds like the cruisetoberfest shirts will be neat! Can't wait to see them! I can't believe how fast its coming up! ( I'm one of the newbies) I was on the DCL site today, looking at the Antigua excursions. Can't decide what to do and whether to book through DCL or on our own. Right now, we're getting ready for our first trip to WDW in July. We were disney newbies last year for our first cruise on the Wonder. It seemed kind of strange since we've never been to the Magic Kingdom. Now we're more experienced, I guess:)
