I'm really excited about it, and about all of you being on the same cruise. I told Tom about it.

Of course, we watched NYPD Blue on Tuesday, where a man was rooked into going to NY by someone on the Internet & was robbed.

So Tom says, how do you know this isn't some freaky Internet guy trying to lure you? I said, well, she gave me her phone number. I could call & ask her.

And Mary Jo said, "There are no mass murderers in Scranton!"

It was quite funny. :teeth:

MaryJo,
just in case that Tom was right with his assumption, could you please inform me after you have disposed the bodies? I will then change The List accordingly :rotfl:

For anyone who is new or missed it: We are getting together in Parrot Cay dinning room on Thusday (day at sea) at noon for a sit down lunch. They are serving a seafood buffet that day. All are welcome, no additional charges. Just send me your name and who will be coming so I can add them to the list. My plan is to inform the dinning room manager of the approx group size the day before the lunch. It is open seating, so everyone can come and go as the please. I'm sure by Thursday the kids will have formed a few sub-groups, so they can eat together too. The nice thing about this is if you can't make it, or if you want to join in at the last minute, no problem. But I would like to get an idea of whos coming just to give the staff a heads-up.

Wish we could do the Panama Canal trip. I know it will be wonderful.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

make that 29. Although Anja is not especially fond of seafood (And after I assured her that there will surely be something edible without gills, scales, tentacles or fins pirate: ) I convinced her to join the gang.

Marianne,

Yes you can trust me...it's Sam you have to worry about!! Actually Sam is the quiet one in our family (maybe he can't get a word in edgewise) since I have been known to talk a dog off of a meat wagon! Sarah said that she never met anyone who can get on a bus at Disney Old Key West and know everyone's business by the time I get off. I somehow think that she is giving me a bum rap??? She refers to me as the Miss Marple of Moosic (from the Agatha Christie books--this lady doesn't miss a trick!!).

Tell Tom what mass murderer would pick Scranton to live in?? Now maybe I should have to worry about him since you come from Chicago!!

Boston Rob has GOT to go on Survivor--can't stand him although I have to give him credit because I think he is really playing the game. I will be glued to the tv on Sunday! I want Rupert to win.

Actually Eric while we were on last years cruise, there was a guy who lived in Dallas, Pennsylvania (about 15 miles from Moosic) who actually killed a few people and buried them in his back yard (of course he claims that he is innocent)--there was a pharmacist and his girlfriend who were missing for months--yup..buried in the back yard. He actually broke out of prison using bed sheets and it was publicized on CNN while we were on the ship (on the day of the brunch)--they finally captured him and he is back in prison...he was smart enough to have another dummy prisoner jump first to see if the rope ladder held and that prisoner fell and injured himself badly. There are still about 4 bodies that they can't identify (this guy was a drug dealer).

I've got a question: Have the prices for gas really crossed the $2-barrier in the USA? I read something about regular being at $2.17 in NY. And how are the prices down in Dixie?
Although this is ridiculously low compared to the prices over here, which are getting near the the $6-barrier, I'd have to slightly readjust our budget. We will approximately travel about 2,000 to 2,500 miles during the three pre-cruise weeks and as our rental usually gets about 18 to 20 mpg, we're talking about 100-140 gallons. I calculated something in the $300-range for gas and highway-tolls, but would readjust that to $500 if abovementioned prices are correct. I prefer to make a conservative budget for our trip. I assumed a price of $1.80 for the gallon in my original budget.

Eric: the least expensive grade of unleaded is about $1.69/gal in Raleigh...probably a few cents less in outlying areas since we're considered a city (excuse me while I laugh)

Wow, Mary Jo, your part of PA sounds almost as bad as NJ!

Gas prices in FL are still well below $2, at least for now.

Funny crime story from Panama City Beach: About 1 mile from my house is a very popular seafood resturant. One night (early evening) a few summers ago, a man used a gun to carjack a car in the resturant parking lot. The was a Sheriff's officer in the resturant at the time. The women who owned the car alerted the officer, he ran after the car, and fired at the fleeing car. But the driver left the scene. Well, the bullet hit a tire, and the guy pulled over in my nieghberhood. He's standing next to the car, with a flat, and some nice people come out of thier house and help him fix it. Meanwhile there are cops ALL OVER the place looking for this guy. By the time the tire is fixed, the cops figured he's long gone, or hiding. He gets into the car and proceeds north, heading out of town. But now he runs out of gas. You guessed it, another nice couple stop to bring him to the gas station. But while they're gone, the cops spot the car on the side of the road. He left the gun in the car. They are waiting for him when he returns with the gas. Bad guy caught, despite the best intentions of some mighty nice southerners.

Great story, Avé! Just another reminder, crime doesn't pay! :sad2:

I'm not quite sure what the gas prices are here, because my Volkwagen Beetle runs on Diesel. That's about $1.85--and it doesn't fluctuate as often as gasoline. I do know that Chicago is MUCH higher than the far suburbs.

Good news! We found a home for a 10 1/2 yr old Black Lab today. We're so excited, because the previous owners were going to put him down (llllooonnnnggg story!). If we hadn't found someone, we would have kept him ourselves--he has the sweetest disposition! So everyone wish Duke happiness in his new home with Tina & Jerry!

Marianne,
you just scored big points with Anja: She's a labrador-lover!!
And you're not the only Diesel-Beetle driver in our group: Mike & Kathy (Papa) have one too, she's called 'Scarlett'. And Dave (CheesePlease) has a Beetle with the 1.8-Turbo.
Talking about diesel: We're also considering a diesel for our next car, but have to check it out very thorougly before ordering it. We're convertible fans and a diesel-engine is 'acoustically challenging'. The VW-diesel available in the Droptop Beetle i.e. is far too loud for open cruising. And we want one with a retractable hardtop like we have it now anyway. As we have to parke at the curb we prefer this to a ragtop.
the difference at the pump between diesel and premium is €.30 per litre. Add the better mileage and and it can be worth to pay the additional bucks for the diesel-engine - Usually an the range of €1500. The extended cruising range in excess of 600miles before having to refill is aslo a big advantage.
Additionally the brandnew diesels have so much low-end torque that they're ideal for cruising. The ones I'm looking for are 2.0-litres in the range of about 120-140hp stock, which can easily be lifted to about 170hp by some small eletronic modifications available from aftermarket-tuners. The torque is comparable to that of a 4.0-litre gas-engine, but at much lower revs.
But as our actual car isn't yet 2 years old, there's still at least one year to go before we replace it.

Thanks for the gas-price info to every-body

Our gas prices are going way up. It's now 89.5/litre whereas a month ago it was closer to 66.5/litre.

Going to see "Hairspray" this afternoon but must run some errands beforehand. Hopefully it won't rain today but it's supposed to start raining this afternoon (again).

I absolutely LOVE my black Beetle, "Gus" (that's short for Augustus). With a 10-gallon tank, I fill up for less than $20 and can go over 400 miles. That's comforting to know on those days that I threaten to run away.

You all mentioned excursions that you've booked already. Are there any more available? What do we have to choose from? We want to go to St. John instead of St. Thomas this time. We have no idea what to do in Antigua. And we may just lie around Castaway Cay--we really haven't discussed it yet.

I still need to make airline reservations. I've been spooked by other threads on the board that say we should leave the day before & stay overnight. (The last time, we left our house at 4:15 am, and got onboard about 1:00 pm--without a hitch. Were we lucky?) Now we're wondering, do we stay near the airport & let Disney do the transfers? Or should we just rent a car & stay near Port Canaveral? Opinions?

Marianne

P.S. David is getting upset that he hasn't found a cruise buddy yet. :sad1: Aren't boys into e-mailing?

Hey, some of us are doing an Eco Tour in Antigua. You can check it out at www.adventureantigua.com If you'd like to book, just book on line and specify you'll be with the Cruisetoberfest group on October 5. As far as I know, DCL has not yet released an excursion list for Antigua, but all that I have read about this Eco tour looks good.

You're funny, Marianne :hyper: I'm sure you'll blend in fine with the rest of the bunch ;) But it wasn't Greek, it was Latin :jester:

To all the the St Thomas Divers/Snorkelers:
I just sent you a mail concerning all the required info for making your reservation.

Marianne,
If you want to do St John using DCL, you have two choices: Either a tour via ferry and Jeep to Trunk Bay, where you can snorkel. Or on a large yacht directly from the DCL-dock to Trunk Bay, doing your snorkeling from the yacht. We chose the first one together with Art & Cathy (@GooyNut) in 2001 and liked it, but if we'd go there again, we'd prefer the yacht-thing.

Or you could join us: 17 of us so far will go to the northern part of St T for a combined dive/snorkel-trip. Some of us will do one or two dives into a reef, and the others will snorkel. After that ww will still have enough time for some shopping.

Hi all you Cruisetoberfesters. Just wanted to check in and let you know we haven't dropped of the face of the earth. I have been lurcking out here some, but find it just impossible to keep up with all the posts. We have been having a busy year with Corey's Senior year in High School. College visits & applications, proms, sports......the list goes on. But its worth it. Next year with the empty nest we won't know what to do with ourselves.

Ave, sign Ellen and I up for the Seafood Lunch session. Sounds like fun.

We also booked on the Western bound repositioning cruise. I see several other cruisetoberfester will be on that cruise too. Should be fun. Two weeks of Magical Bliss.....

Looking forward to October and seeing Cruisetoberfester both new and old.

It is semi official now....we put our deposit down for the eastern repo....I believe we may be on the same deck as well....

I just keep thinking "we could use that money to do something other than Disney for once!" Then I think "when will I ever actually be able to see these places, AND have it be on DCL?"

I say semi-official because we are trying to have little "Foxes", and I am SOOOO hoping to be rounded belly by then! But, who knows! So, we booked it....we'll have a good time either way!

Dreary out this morning here but it's supposed to get sunny this afternoon and go up to 26C. Sun would be good and am hopeful about the temperature too.

Watched Survivor last night -- was kinda disappointed that it was Rob and Amber in the final two. Didn't seem much of a choice really. Can't decide who I want to win the extra 1 million between Rudy and Rupert. Jenna looked a lot different at the reunion show.

Just dropping in to let you know we are still around. Both sons have moved back home for the summer and they brought all their dirty laundry with them. I don't think they have done it for months. I couldn't even move around in the laundry room. Thank heavens it has been nice weather, so could hang alot outside.

DS#1 had his wisdom teeth out on Friday and did well. In fact he drove back to college on Sat so he could go to graduation and say goodbye to his friends.

Mother's day we spent at the Orioles baseball game and Inner Harbor. Ate at Philips and had dessert at Cheesecake Factory.

This week trying to get everything caught up since we leave Friday for our cruise and WDW.

I have moved into the 21st Century and got the internet hooked up through the cable. No more dial up and we can have all the computers going at the same time. Once less argument in our house.

Ave--- We will also do the group brunch. Not sure if I said that before.

After I get back from this vacation and my conference in June will start to look about excursions for Oct.

I looked at the repositioning cruise, but I just don't think it will work out. DS#1 college graduation and DS#2 will be doing his internship we will be busy moving children both in May and August. I'm tempted to put a deposit down on it and see if we can work something out. However, I think I would like to do a Southern Carribean in the winter or Alaska in the summer.

I missed Survivor yesterday, but did read the reviews so know what happened Voted for Ruppert for the millon.

Night everyone.

Mary: Glad to hear you're feeling better. I also booked the Antigua Eco-Tour yesterday for hubby and me! It sounds like a fun excursion.

Nancy: I know exaxtly what you mean about the laundry! When my son visited in April I couldn't understand why he brought so much luggage for just a week at home. Turns out the last time he did any laundry was at my house over Christmas break! I sure hope they didn't choose his luggage for inspection! After everything was all clean and fluffy we couldn't fit it back in the same bags!
I didn't even ask about the sheets......!!! Seems to me like he needs a woman.

Voted for Rupert yesterday. Ethan is still my boy, but he already has his million and besides now he's got Jenna and she has her million (somebody please tell me, what's up with that?!?) I really want Rupert to win the money just to prove you can have integrity and still come out ahead.

I'll probably miss American Idol tonight.....it's our 30th wedding anniversary so we have a dinner reservation.

Just got back from a week @ WDW and could not get into my computer -- got "wormed". Not sure what to do about it, but I got a disc from a nurse I work with when I got back to the hospital today -- it's titled Sasser Fix so I hope it works. I have missed this board so much and was going crazy at home without a computer.

Mary Jo -- thanks so much for the information.

Renee' - Put us down for the Pineapple Beach day (Sam and I) in case I haven't already notified you. Can't remember what I did pre-vacation.

Weather was great at WDW (mid-80's during the day & mid-60's at nights and no humidity). Parks were crowded. Saw Wishes for the first time -- unreal -- it is absolutely spectacular -- gave my DD and I goosebumps and tears. Have a new favorite building at OKW -- Building 19. It was a hectic visit -- trying to coordinate parks with our 4 year-old grandson and our 32 year-old son. We finally decided that everyone would do their own thing and that worked out much better.

We are looking forward to our July 11 trip trip to HH DVC. This will be a relaxing vacation in contrast to the one we just experienced. And after that, only 2-1/2 months to the cruise!!!

ok -- I voted for Rupert. Was considering voting for Rudy but finally decided to vote for Rupert -- loved when he stole the shoes last season.

It was really warm here yesterday -- up to 30C with the humidex. What a shock to the system -- the heat was still on in the house so the house was 75F (the thermstat in the house is set in F for my mother!).

Sunny for right now but it may rain (yet again) this afternoon or early evening.

Broke down at work and put up a subdivision map on the wall. I resisted for 3 years but finally had to give in. Still have my disney beanies though so I guess it's ok. :p

Back to work -- well sortof, our phones and faxes haven't worked all morning so it's been quiet. Now if they could turn on the air conditioning it would be great!! They are working on it too.

It's officially hot here. I don't think we had spring, just winter and then summer. Was thinking of calling my Dad this afternoon b/c last night they were calling for snow in the West (he lives in Winnipeg). :(

jeanneg--- Congratulations on your anniversary. We just celebrated our 33rd on 5/8.

Is your daughter at Lehigh finished for the year? Just when yu are enjoying the empty nest, they start flocking back home.

DS#1 was so kind last night he made dinner for us. He works part time in a restaurant so he does know how to cook.

American Idol tonight. Clay Aiken is going to be on Wednesdays show.

I now have concert tickets to see him in Baltimore and York this summer.

Almost finished work for the day.

Really warm here today--80's...we have had really nasty thunder and lightening the last few nights and these are supposed to continue to the end of the week.

I also voted for Rupert..a few times...I hope my faith in Survivor can be restored...he really seems like a genuine, sincere, trustworthy guy and I want a nice guy to finish first for a change...he really didn't screw anyone or lie and make false promises and he is one heck of a worker. So anyone reading..go to cbs.com and vote for Rupert!!!

I do feel that Rob did play a good game but at what expense? He lied and made false promises to everyone--reminded me of Johnny Fairplay. Amber just mainly went along for the ride. Rob seems like a control freak so I wonder how he feels having his girl with the million?? He also messed up because if he took Jenna to the finals, he would have won! Did you see where Jenna married a model from Abercrombie and Fitch? She looks totally different. Gotta love Lex's blue hair!

Congrats on post #2300, MaryJo :wave2:

Weather over here got warmer with 20°C/68°F but intermittent showers and thunderstorms. After work I drove along the Autobahn with the top down, when I suddenly got into heavy rain :( As long as you're driving at least 70 mph you don't get much water in the car ;) Fortunately I could stop on the emergency lane under a bridge to raise my hardtop, which only takes about 20 seconds, so I only got some droplets into the car. When we left the gym the sun was shining again. Unfortunately it shall stay like this for the whole next week. Hopefully we'll have better weather in the second week of June, when we're vacationing at the Baltic Sea.

Congratulations, Nancy and Norm, on your 33rd! Gee, maybe we could get on that Match Your Mate show! I'd love to do it, but my husband would die of embarassment......he knows that I'll say anything for a laugh! Jen won't be driving home until Thursday night. Since she's an R.A. she has to stay until everybody else leaves.......small price to pay for free housing. Congrats on getting tickets to Clay Aiken. I've met his mom but still haven't seen him. Not due to lack of opportunities though......whenever he returns to Raleigh he always makes lots of appearances. It was so much fun last year.....everywhere you went people and storefronts had "Vote for Clay" banners and signs. Lots of people even wrote slogans with shaving cream on their cars. Fantasia (who I don't really care for anyway) is not from this part of NC so there's very little excitement this year.

Time to vote for Rupert again. I think he and his wife are so cute.

jeanneg, congrats on your wedding aniversary! You too Nancy!

I have booked the Coki Beach for St. Thomas, and the Eco Tour for Antigue. We are not planning on any spa stuff, and Castaway Cay is strickly to relax. And since we are not going to Palo this time, we do not have to do the Resey Scamble.:p Just get on the ship and head straight for the lunch buffet!.

Nancy, Got you and Norm on the lunch list. If you are going to be at Epcot on either 5/21 or 5/22, we are planning on being at the outdoor theater across from The American Pavillion at about 5:30 on both night. The Animals play on Friday, Paul Revere and the Raiders on Sat. They will play 3 45 minute sets, with a 15 min. break in between each set. I figure we will stick around if the music is great, other wise head to eat. Mark wants to try again for the English dinner we missed when we went down in Feb.

Eric, you'll have that hard drive full in no time!:teeth:

Just found out today....My Doc made it to the "Top 3" pick in Bay's Best. This is a contest the local paper runs. People cast ballots on thier favorit doctor, lawyer, vet, seafood resturant, car dealer, donut shop, .......you get the idea. Anyway, the paper called us today and said Dr. Reed finished in the top three. We won't know where in the top three until the paper comes out with the results on 5/24. But we were all Very excited.

Got to run down to in-laws house. Time for thier monthly B-12 injection.:earseek:

jeanneg & padisneyfan--Congrats on your 30th & 33rd wedding anniversaries!!! Can't wait till I can say that I've been married that long (we're halfway there!)

jeanniec--glad you conquered that worm! I've had one or two of those myself. :badpc:

Eric--does getting more disk space work like getting a bigger house? The more room you have, the more stuff you get???

Sorry I'm not a Survivor fan--so I guess my vote wouldn't count.

It sounds like Duke is doing very well at Tina & Jerry's. Tina was worried that he wasn't eating, but I'm sure he's just nervous. He'll settle down real soon.

I have a question. I was just clicking around eBay (I know, it's addicting!). I came across a ton of Disney Cruise Line "trading pins". What are these?

ciadriamom -- Congratulations! What was your major? I have gone back to school with kids also. It is a real challenge but a great feeling of accomplishment when you get your degree.

I think Sam and I hold the record for being married the longest -- our 42nd anniversary is on September 22 so the cruise is kind of an anniversary celebration for us, too. We sail only 10 days after our anniversary. And no -- we do not get around with walkers and wheelchairs!! The Disney obsession and magic has kept us young for the last 30 years or so (however long WDW has been open). I truly believe that!

Pretty sure I am going to retire on September 30 which makes the cruise a retirement party for me, too. Not interested in waiting until I reach the Social Security retirement age. I want more vacation time while I can still enjoy it.

Voted for Rupert -- sure hope he wins the extra million.

Congrats also to all those married for so long -- truly inspirational in these times (esp. Jeanniec -- you got married before I was born!! -- not meant to make you feel old though as I think it's truly amazing)

Mary -- yup it's Wed not Friday -- darn that work.

Bette -- did you get the email I sent you?

Can't wait for the cruise to get here!

A co-worker is going to Florida in two weeks although a Disney nut she is not -- they are spending only 2 days at Disney to see MK and AK with her 3 year old granddaughter and then are golfing? (Anyone who golfs is nuts in my books -- esp picking golfing over Disney!) When asked about the 3 yr old while the rest of them were golfing she replied that the condo where they are staying has babysitting! Can you believe it??

Peter...didn't Bette or Kim invite you??? We are coming up to a timeshare in NH for a week in June and Bette and Kim are throwing a big party for us...wait a minute..that was the plan before Kim and Bette booked the Panama Canal cruise....now I heard the party is just soup and sandwiches!! You just might be going to the House of Pizza for the steak sandwich!! Just kidding Bette and Kim!! Anyway, we were hoping to get together sometime during our week and either go to Boston or maybe Portsmouth...we are there starting June 20th for one week!!

Free lunch today at work since it is National Hospital Week--no raise this year since they don't have the money--show me the $$$.

Bette and Kim...do you think that maybe you could find a NH moose that is looking to have his picture taken so I could finally say that I actually saw a Moose instead of just the "Moose Crossing signs" in Vermont and New Hampshire??? Everyone tells me how many moose they see when they are up there and I haven't seen one??

Jill,
thanks a lot for the link. It will come in handy. And I can use it to dream of your cheap gas each time I think of our gas-prices, which have reached $6 per gallon  Fortunately our convertible makes about 30mpg, although it does 0-60 in about 8 seconds, and has a topspeed of 135mph. Nevertheless cheaper gas would be nice.

Is anyone collecting the state quarters? I just got the Florida quarter and it is really nice with the space shuttle on it--I guy that I work with gets the coins uncirculated from the Philadelphia mint so he always brings me a few quarters and a roll of the new nickels. He said the quarters are getting harder to get and will get more scarce as the more populated states are minted (Texas, California, etc.) Told me if I hold onto the roll of uncirculated nickels they will really be worth something!!

I'm collecting the state quarters. One map for each of the kids. Heidi took her map & spent the quarters once--I was SOOOOO mad. So we have more than a few for her that we need. David just needs Alabama, Arkansas, and Florida. (Is FLA the newest one?)

Mary Jo--I don't think I'm telling Tom about the car incident. He's already got his concerns.

(Typing hint for Reneé and Avé: If you hold down the ALT key & type 0233 (zero, not letter O), it'll type the é with the accent above it.)

Well, it's almost 4:00 here. I've got to clean off my desk & get out of here!

Marianne...pm me and let me know which ones you need. Yes, Florida is the newest one. This guy also got me the US Mint Silver Proof set of uncirculated 2004 quarters (in a case)--the next ones out are Texas, Iowa and Wisconsin. I'll have to remember to bring it with me when we see you for dinner. This guy is really heavy into coin collecting (has three safes full of coins) and is really very knowledgeable about coins--he also collects items from the Titanic--you should see some of the interesting things he has from there.

Tell Tom not to worry and take deep breaths--are you driving to PA? Mary Jo

Hi Mary Jo,

I'm collecting the state quarters for Haley and my Mom is collecting for my 2 nieces and 1 nephew. I like doing this since it's kind of fun to see when you can get a new one. I'm up to date with all of them except Florida. I can't wait to get that one since it looks so cool.

Pixie dust to AshLee Werner (Cathy's four legged baby)--she is having some serious medical problems and hope everything turns out ok. Just talked with her before.

Cathy...too funny about the mice!! Maybe Art can bring cheese in for them next time!!

For those that don't live around here, the school where Art works at was pranked by some seniors (who are now in probably some serious hot water!)--they brought in over 400 mice to school and let them loose...it was on the tv...there were mice everywhere...in lockers, hallways, classrooms...the administration did not look too amused. The Department of Health had to be called in and they had to hire people to come and disinfect the place and exterminators to catch the mice! Sort of like the movie "Mouse Trap"!!! As Sarah always says...if I do something wrong, I would rather answer to the police than my mother!!! I'm sure the parents are not amused!!

My DDog, AshLee is kind of ill right now and gave me a real scare .. had to rush to Petiatrician yesterday after work. We will celebrate Gramps' 91st birthday tomorrow. His BD was yesterday, but Saturday is better suited for a celebration. Additionally my niece -his oldest grandgrandchild- will be 18 tomorrow.
But first I will teach First Aid to the teachers of private school tomorrow. I first trained them about ten years ago, and since then they insist on me doing the refreshers. I take that as an extra-compliment as they refuse doing business with my ambulance service, because our professional instructors in the past didn't show up for some classes without an excuse, which reall pi**ed the school off. But once a year they have been calling for ten years now saying 'We want Eric to do our class. Is he available or do we have to move that business, too?'

Hi Guys,

Kim Here...

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow, the siding party starts at 7 am. Hopefully everything goes ok. I hired this guy( great recommendations) to install a new wood screen/storm soor on the front of the house. The door needs to be custom fit, since the house is over 250 yrs old nothing is square. They are back right now to finish and it is like watching a Laurel & Hardy show, except this is my custom ordered door they are messing with. I hope they get it right.... I actually have more power tools than this guy...

Oh well... For the siding party no one in my family is allowed on ladders tomorrow, only ground work.

Peter is in charge of the laser level to keep evertyhing straight. I bought this system but have not had time to learn how to use it..

Off to supervise these 2 yahoos, we will let you know how everything turns out and post before and after pictures..

Think of us tomorrow...

Enjoy your trip to the Lone Star State, Mike & Kathy

We just had our Disney-fix: 'Freaky Friday' was released on DVD yesterday over here and I had it preordered from Amazon.de. It arrived at my office this morning and we had to watch it right now. I have fond memories of it, because one of my questions in 'Who wants to be a Mouseketeer' was about it. To be honest, I didn't know it, but the kids' reactions in the audience gave me a clue on the right answer.
Amazon even had a great deal: €14.99 for those preordering during the first week, and additionally I had a €5-voucher, which was given to everyone who pre-ordered 'Finding Nemo'. So I ended up paying €9.99 for a brandnew Disney-DVD. That's what I call a great deal

do you care for a special country (For the Euro) ? THe coins are different from country to country, only the notes are the same everywhere. The front of the coins, the sizes and the materials are the same everywhere, but the backsides bear individual symbols representing each country.

Hi Guys,

It was great having Peter up yesterday, too bad Jen had to work and could not come. Unfortunately it was bloody hot yesterday, but we kept chugging lots of water, of course today is about 20+ degrees cooler...

Like peter said it was a great start, unfortunately the sophet (sp) had to be totally taken down and then rebuilt so that kept Bob ( aka John) and our sheriff friend Paul busy most of the day. Like Peter said this is a very looong standing project as we have a big house but looks very tiny from the front.

Peter, Thank you so much for your help and anytime you guys want to come up and swing a hammer I would be honored with your assistance. You know where i will be every weekend for months to come....

Hi everyone. I've never heard a construction project sound like so much fun :Pinkbounc

Just got the Disney Vacation Club video in the mail--haven't had a chance to see it. I'm really interested (thanks for the heads up, Mary Jo), but I think hubby may be a hard-sell. Of course, once I tell him that all of you rich people go on cruises over & over & over again for next to nothing, he might bend a little. ;)

We went to his cousin's wedding reception yesterday. The couple is older (40's) and never married before. We've had three of those in the family recently. The weddings seem to be much more sophisticated--less traditional. Only immediate family was invited to the ceremony, but there were tons of people at the reception. Bob (the cousin) is very into food & wine, so of course, we ate & ate & ate. I'm vegetarian, and he had many vegetable choices, and I am grateful for that.

Thankfully, the rain finally ended here. Heidi has a softball game today. Dad is her coach. I hope the girls pull it together soon. Tom says they do very well in practice, then they get on the field & it's like they forget all the basics. He doesn't have one good first baseman. The girls have "holes in their gloves". He's very frustrated--doesn't know what to tell them. Of course, we have a few parents that were coaches themselves for a long time. They feel it's their duty to coach from the bleachers. One play, the dad confused the girl on third because he told her to run, run, run. And coach Tom told her to stay. Luckily, she listened to her coach.

I'm probably going to get in trouble (again!) because I'm going to tell these parents to shut up & sit down! Tom says, "You don't have to defend me out there." I told him, "I'm not defending you. I just don't want to sit there & listen to that cr-p!" If those parents want to coach, they should have signed up. They can teach their kids anything they want at home. But at a game, the coaches need to be in charge.

Am I done venting? Yes, I think I am. I've got to go get ready for church.

Have a great day, everyone.

Hi Everyone,

Remember those lime green Mickey head pins I made for last year's Cruisetoberfest II cruise? Well, I'm making something pretty similar only in a magnet for the stateroom doors for the CA to FL repo cruise. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in these for our doors. I would just change the Panama Canal Cruise to Cruisetoberfest III and the dates would change to October 2, 2004 to October 9, 2004. I am making them on half sheets since I really didn't like the way they looked really big.

Anway, here's the link to the pic of the one I'm making for the CA to FL cruise:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid116/pb960c122c7f4b1d71d4ea5d985f48fb3/f8af0f0d.jpg

What does everyone think?

I love the look of the magnet! Please, please, sign me up for one and I will send you a check for whatever it costs. (My correct screen name is jeanneg with a lower case "g")

I told hubby about the repositioning cruise and right now he is very keen on going, but I keep telling him it's just not feasible. #1 is the whole missing work for over 2 weeks and #2 is that we'll have at least 2 kids that will be either moving from or back to college during both sailings. I love my kids but definitely do not want to leave them home alone. My third(girl) and fourth(boy) are only 15 months apart and both party animals......together they can get into all sorts of trouble and I'm not about to give them the opportunity. I can't believe how many people have signed up for the cruises and how long the threads are already!

Renee,
you have to ask the Design-Team for the logo: Papa & @GoofyNut are the ones in charge.
But I think with 4 1/2 months to go (Less than 4 months for Anja & me :Pinkbounc :bounce: ) there's still plenty of time left.
And here's some good news for Little Haley: Steiff just launched a new line of stuffed animal especially for small kids. I guess we're gonna get her one of those.

Renee,
If you would be so kind, would you add us to the list for magnets for BOTH cruises? PM me with details...I am sure you posted it somewhere between the 2 threads, but both this and the repo thread are so huge, I am having trouble keeping up! I am impressed with you staying on top of them.

We just finished the classroom and confined water portion of our PADI scuba and I am beat! Somehow I passed, didn't freak out as much as I thought I would when I had to take my mask off under water (lost the contacts though!), and managed to spend $450 on gear for Tim and I. Keep in mind we live in Colorado....Not too much to do as far as diving goes.....But it does justify more vacations!

Jill,

Don't be too impressed. Andy (Verandahman) got me into the mood for making the magnets now. The only problem is that I've gotten more of them done for the August 2005 cruise and haven't even started on the October 2004 one!

Anyway, I just send you a PM.

Jill,
you're not alone with that: When we did our OWD, I spent nearly two hours after class with Anja in the hotel-pool to train that '60seconds-without-mask'-thing with her. After she had swallowed half of the pool she finally got the hang of it and next day when we did it with our instructor she did more than 2 minutes without any problems.
We haven't bought any gear apart from masks, fins, snorkels so far, but think about getting some suits.

Sign up us for the magnets too Renee. Great idea. We wear the pins you made for the last cruise every time we go to a DIS meet here and always get great compliments.

Went to the Jays games over the weekend -- they were playing Boston and ended up splitting the series. The Jays won the first and last games while Boston won the middle two. Lots of Boston fans at the games. The Skydome was open yesterday which was great -- got a bit of a tan on the one arm that was in the sun.

Hopefully going to the last physio for DS this morning. He was away with the Reserves this weekend and came home with a cold so we'll see how that goes. He wasn't too happy about it last night but he should be fine.

Read the thread about not enjoying your cruise. Agree with what you said Mary Jo -- if we don't have to cook or clean up afterwards we like the food.

Must go and get the morning started. Lily (the dog) is howling because she heard a fire truck so must get her inside as I'm sure the neighbours won't appreciate her style of wake up call.

I went with DD (and about 200 of her classmates) to Carowinds this weekend. For those of you who don't know, Carowinds is an amusement park in North Carolina. We had a ball, but I am always amazed how other places compare to WDW. The design of the park is very poorly thought out. BUT...a wonderful time was had by all!

Actually saw the making of the Queen Mary 2 a couple of weeks ago on our discovery network -- not sure if they are the same as in the US. Thought it was interesting but would have liked to have seen more of the cabins. Don't like the idea of different restaurants based on which cabin you have though. Went and looked at the prices to sail it and boy would it be expensive. The lower cabins look really tiny too.

Hi Tracy -- don't think that Mary Jo missed anything. Some of us are staying at the Radisson the night before the cruise and some others at Ron Jon's. We are also meeting to have dinner the Friday night before the cruise at Grills.

This is a great bunch of people! We cruised with them for the first time last year and it really made our cruise. As Mary Jo said it's nice to go somewhere on the ship and see someone you know. The CM's got to know us too since we wore the T-shirts etc.

Really humid here today and they are calling for potential thunderstorms later. Seems to go between cold (Sat) and humid (today). Maybe at some point it will settle down and just be nice, warm and :sunny:

They are working on the air system again at work so again we have no air circulation and of course no windows open. The wonders of modern technology.

Have a great day everyone.

Reneé...we still haven't made up our mind on what we are doing in Antigua...my boss told me to make sure that we go to Nelson's dockyard and Shirley Heights so we were thinking of hiring a taxi to take us there....how do you get to the resort you are looking at? I will discuss it with the queen of our house (which isn't me!!) and will email you and let you know. The price is really good--are you doing the lunch package or the all day? Hi Mary Jo,

Not sure if we'll do the half or the full. What do you think Bette, Kim & Jeannie? If we do the half, then maybe we can do some roaming around before we go there. Just a thought. Thank you Mary Jo for reminding me that there were two options. I totally forgot about that and was only thinking of the half day. Guess I'm having a senior moment too????

We arrive in Antigua at 8 a.m. and depart at 5:30 p.m.

Renee' -- Half day at Pineapple Beach sounds good to me. I didn't think that we would spend the whole day there anyway, especially if it is hot. Not sure about the October weather. A trip to Nelson's Dockport and Shirley Heights sounds great. It would be nice to see more of the island and if Mary Jo's boss has been there and recommends these two places, I'm sure they will be really interesting to see. I'm assuming that, no matter what, we will have to taxi to the resort. So count us in.

Mary Jo -- Do you have any idea how long the trips to the Dockyard and the Heights would take? Seems as tho we would have to do that first before the beach since the half day starts at 11. Also, we probably don't have to be at the resort exactly at 11 anyway which would give us a little leeway in our times. It sounds like this would be a really fun and varied day.

Hi Guys, Kim here....

A few weeks ago I posted about a group tour while in St. Thomas. If we have 20 people minimum and up to 25 maximum we can rent our own jeep safari open tour vehicle and driver for the day. The cost comes out to a reasonable $ 20.00 each person plus a tip for the driver. All other expenses are our responsibility, lunch, shopping & so on…

Right now here is the list of who is confirmed to go on the tour.

Join the group we only need 4 more souls to join us for a day of fun… E-mail me, or post here if interested and I will add you to the list. Once we have 20 people confirmed we can finalize the reservation in St. Thomas.

1)Bette
2)Kim
3)Renee’ & Haley
4)Lenny
5)Mary Jo
6)Sara
7)Sam
8)Arlene
9)Andy
10 Jen
11 Peter
12 Jeanne C
13 Sam C
14 Sharon

The general consensus is that we would like to tour for the morning, go somewhere “quaint” where we can have lunch, a little swim and a little unique shopping, then end the day will high test shopping at the center of town in the marketplace. Anyone who wanted to opt out of shopping can be brought back to the ship and perhaps we can schedule 2 pickups in town for those shopping veterans and those who are shopping lightweights.

For all the Newbies:
Here is the info on Lunch.

Where: Parrot Cay (Seafood Buffet)
When: 10/7 12 noon (day at sea)
Who: Eveyone in the Cruisetoberfest Group (Kids included) And friends we've met along the way.
What: It's just an informal gathering of Disers. No additional cost, no "real" reservations required. My plan is to give the dinning room manager a heads-up with a approx number the day before.
Why: We had a GREAT Brunch at Palo in 2002. We tried to repeat it in 2003 and everything went wrong. We were not happy campers. So we came up with the idea of just invading one of the dinning rooms for lunch.
How: Just e-mail me, Twinave@aol.com, PM me, or reply on this thread, and I will add you to the list. So far we have 38 people.

One more note. This will be one of the last times for the group to
get together. We can plan our day at Castaway Cay, take pictures, and exchange e-mails addresses. So bring your camera!

The List's 15th edition has just been sent - Check it out. I'll check the Boards later again - We're gonna watch 'Man's Favourite Sport' now, a wonderful 60ies-comedy starring Rock Hudson. I just received the DVD from Amazon.com, who managed once again to deliver a DVD from the States to Germany in just 5 days. With the Dollar as low as it is now, it has become very affordable to order things from across the Great Pond.

Reneé...I think that we are going to pass on the Allegro Pineapple resort since I really want to go to Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights since my boss said it was one of the prettiest spots on the island and we will probably hire a taxi and have lunch there. He also said that it will take about one hour each way to get to the Allegro Pineapple Resort so figure that into your schedule. He didn't think it would be possible to go to Nelson's Dockyard/Shirley Heights and the Allegro resort in one day....he feels that you would be shortchanged if you try to do both (also not sure what time Nelson's Dockyard opens although I have emailed them but I don't think you would have to time to do that and then get to the Allego by 11:00 a.m.) Mary Jo

Okay, help me out here...

I've booked our flights (finally!) for the cruise. We're arriving in Orlando at 7 pm on Friday, the 1st.

Where do we stay? Should we stay in Orlando & drive in the morning, or drive in the evening & stay in Cocoa Beach or somewhere?

And how do we get from the airport to the Port? I can't find car rental agencies who recognize Port Canaveral, or Cape Canaveral as drop-off locations.

Thanks in advance for all of the help.

Hi Marianne,

We're in exactly the same boat. Our flight arrives at 8 pm so by the time we get our luggage and rent a car we will have missed all the activities at the Radisson or RJ. We're just resigned to meeting everyone for the first time at the terminal or sailaway party. We actually have a ressie for the Hyatt MCO but it's way more than I want to spend and will probably switch it if there's another airport hotel that some others are staying at. If it's just the 2 of us, I'm going to purchase the Disney transfers and try to get on the first bus out. If we team up with other people it might make more sense to hire a limo or town car and pool the expense. If other people are staying near the airport, please tell me where. We can always meet that evening in the lounge and have a mini-meet of our own.
Arlene: I know you were undecided as to where you were staying until you got your flights arranged. Any updates on that situation?
Kim/Bette: you're still listed at staying at the MCO, but I think that's no longer true. Please confirm....

Renee' - Do you have any information on how long it takes to get to the Pineapple resort? An hour each way sounds like a long time. I think I read that it was 30". I'm not sure I want to spend 2 hours in travel time. Sounds as tho you have been in contact with the staff there -- could you check the time?

FYI,
a luxury-van from MCO to Port C and back comes at approximately $160 & tip and holds up to 10 people, but I'd recommend not more than 8 for comfort. A Loncoln Towncar is about the same. We took Tiffany the last three times and they were always punctual, friendly and clean. But there's also some links here on the DIS to sponsors of the Boards who offer transfers.

Thanks for the new list Eric. It seems that the legal parties might just be catching up the hospital parties.

Jeanneg -- at the Radisson last year we were up pretty late by the pool. (eating of course!)

Still are undecided about excursions -- DS is in trouble at school in terms of attending his classes so this has dominated the conversation for the last 2 days. Meeting with the vp tomorrow who no longer thinks it's an urgent problem so we'll see what happens. Monday it was urgent but today it isn't??

Nice and :sunny: here today and the temperature is actually ok too. We have a long weekend here this weekend but they are forecasting more rain. Here's hoping the weatherman(woman) is wrong.

Love the boats and yourselves in your signature Bettemom. Btw did you get the email I sent?

Jeanne--

I agree w/you that the Disney transfers are fine for two people. However, there are 4 of us. It's much cheaper to rent a car twice (there & back) than to spend the $49 times 4.

I think I'll be staying somewhere near the airport, too--just because I won't want to drive an hour in the evening, after traveling all day.

I think we are going to do that same thing also. I haven't purchased plane tickets yet, but it scares me to try and fly in the same morning. Does DCL pick up you luggage if you fly the night beore? That was so convenient.
If there is a group- we might go in for a car with someone if we can cancel our DCL transfers.

They've got a luggage pick-up service in the Hyatt. DCL takes your bags directly from your hotelroom to your stateroom.
But why don't you join us at the Radisson Port Canaveral ? We'll have a great dinner at the Grills, then a party at the pool, and in the morning we'll 'raid' the Terminal in a large group - They'll never know what hit them, when 40+ people wearing the same shirts check in simultaneously

Hi Jill,

When the T-shirt Logo's are finished by the designers then everyone will get an e-mail with the t-shirt logo file attached. You can then print the logo on special iron on paper and iron onto your t-shirts.

For those that are not comfprtable with doing this themselves some of us can help you with printing the iron on transfers.

Bette & Kim ... Just love the Ship and your "name" smilies! BTW, how did you make out with your little project ... No injuries?

Piglet or whoever ... How do we get the um'laut over the letters A O and U?

AshLee update ... she seems to be feeling a little better every day. Whoever said animals are dumb is the real dummy. She knows she has to get her tail area washed and powdered twice a day and and she comes over to the sink and assumes the position; then she just waits around for her meds ... I don't call that dumb. Baby'd maybe! I got a real nice Thank You card for her petiatrician and just have to pick up a nice box of Gertrude Hawk Candy to go with it ... cause they were so caring and nice.

Hope Mike & Kathy (Papa and Mrs Papa) get home safe from their trip to Texas this weekend.

:earseek:  :earseek: OK it's Thursday night and just what do we watch in the SURVIVOR time slot? Must admit that this is my favorite night for TV. Love the CSI and Without A Trace too.

Here's a link to the complete ASCII-Table (http://www.asciitable.com/)
Just hold down the ALT-key and punch in the respective three-digit-number taken from the first column of the table. Use the numeric pad on the right hand side of your keyboard for the numbers, doNOT use the numbers in the top-row above the letters, this won't work.

An Umlaut is an A, O or U with dots above it: Ä, ä, Ö, ö, Ü, ü. But you can replace the dots by a trailing 'e', i.e. ä=ae. I'll explain the pronounciation during the cruise ;) Or here's an example:
'A' in German is pronounced like 'U' in 'hut', to make it sound like your 'A' in 'man', we put the dots on it.
Those of you who have been in the Forces over here, you may remember 'The German phrase of the day' on AFN Europe. We can do that on the ship :jester:

I don't wanna disappoint you, but are you sure that you'll be allowed to stay on the ship? When we once inquired about a back-to-back cruise, we were told that we could leave our stuff in the stateroom, but would have to leave the ship. They do some heavy-duty cleaning, maintenance, catering, etc. Our TA told us that they offer i.e. a tour of Kennedy Space Center to keep you occupied, but off the ship.

Way to bust my bubble, Eric! We did inquire...we were told we would need to vacate our stateroom for cleaning (we have the same stateroom for both cruises, so our stuff can stay). I did get two seperate answers regarding the "re-check in". In both cases, we could stay on the ship for the majority of the time, however one CM stated we would need to check in at the terminal, another person (I forget if it was our TA or a CM) said we would be able to stay on the ship and check in at guest services. So, I figure as long as I get all the laundry done, I don't care too much. I also posted about that here, and it seems that everyone who has done back to backs has had a little different protocol to follow, but the only one who had to officially disembark was a Canadian citizen....perhaps it depends upon being a US Citizen. Who knows!?!

The international contingent will be at the Radisson. :bounce:

It will be a friendly rivalry with everyone meeting for dinner at the Grills (although we'll have to see who gets to the boat first!!)

Wearing the t-shirts is a lot of fun at the terminal. We knew that Eric and Anja had already checked in because the CM at the desk said he'd seen the t-shirts already and we said yup and there were from Germany! He was amazed that we knew and then we explained about the disboards etc. After we boarded all the CM's we spoke too told us that we were way behind everyone else!! They couldn't believe how many t-shirts they had seen.

Maybe on the back of the T-shirts we should have Ron Jon's or Radisson.

Marianne,
we had a van last time for eight people and it was very comfy. It also easily 'swallowed' all our luggage, although Anja and I travelled with four large bags/suitcases. The cost was $160&tip. All the van/limo-services have coupons on the web, granting you a rebate. We went with tiffanytowncars the last three times and were always happy campers.

Anyone can root for the Yankees, Steinbrenner has the $$ to buy the fans. But you're right. You've got to be true blue, sick in the head to continually root for the Brewers! I love that new Miller Park, tho. Roof opens & closes at will. Awesome!

So you guys haven't made my hotel decision any easier. Radisson quoted me $85 for the night. And I can't find a website for Ron Jon's hotel. Just a surf shop????

Marianne

The website for Ron Jon is here:

Just hold down the ALT-key and punch in the respective three-digit-number taken from the first column of the table. Use the numeric pad on the right hand side of your keyboard for the numbers, doNOT use the numbers in the top-row above the letters, this won't work.

Eric-- Your ASCII table is different than what I use--Your é is number 130, my é is number 0233. My computer has a program called "charmap" that shows all the characters available with each font. I have a shortcut on my start menu. I use it all the time.

I like how Pétér uses it. Maybe Mariaññe? Kind of cute.

We are all waiting for 5pm to go home!!

Am so glad that it's Friday and Monday we are off. Yeah (even if the weather forecast is rain all weekend).

Back to work so I can actually leave at 5pm.

We already have 6pm :teeth: But I left my office at 3:11pm :hyper: and was out of the gym at 5:15 after running 7 miles. Then we did our grocery shopping. Unfortunately Anja has to work Saturday and Sunday, and I volunteer at our ambulance station to teach a First-Aid-Course. But we don't mind as the weather can only be described by words not admissable by the posting rules :p

Marianne and Sharon:
yes, we would be more than happy to share a ride with you guys.
It seems like it will be 5 adults and 4 kids so we should fit very comfortably. Besides, we can make all the Radisson and Ron Jon people jealous when we pull up to the port in our swanky limo.
My only request is that we get there early as I will be doing the ressie scramble and want to get a good position in line. I notice we all have late dining so we'll be able to return to the airport at approx. the same time (we ARE all going back to the airport, right?) I've also used Tiffany Town Cars to get to WDW and was very pleased with them. I will check to see what the current rate is and as Eric said, they always have a coupon offer. Whatever hotel you decide to stay at is fine with me as long as there's a free shuttle from MCO. I believe Arlene and Andy will also be staying near the airport. Maybe we can fit 11 and turn it into a real party! Forgive me if I've forgotten, but have either of you done DCL before?
And tell MaryJo not to be concerned about axes. A New Jersey girl's best weapons are her looong nails and whatever she can hide in her high hair! (Am I the only one who gets nostalgic at the opening credits of the Sopranos?)

I just checked Tiffany's and they want $210+ min 20% tip for the roundtrip MCO-Port. Quite a raise compared with last years rates
