View Full Version : Any Charity that I can Donate 1 Night to?

I have 4 pts left in my account that will expire on 11/30/03, they can't be transfered or banked. I originally planned on renting them out by borrowing some odd pts from my next use year and make a one night reservation. However, it seems that it is much more complicated than I originally anticipated.

I am now thinking about donating them, for 8 pts, for 1 night at OKW for someone who may not otherwise be able to afford it and make a little magic for someone or some kid.

Can you make any suggestions?

Thanks

Maybe you could just keep an eye on these boards for a situation that grabs you.

Maybe someone's waitlist doesn't look like it is going to come through or maybe someone has a situation where they don't have enough money to stay on site for one night and you could make that happen.

I'm sure you could find someone to give some magic to.

Let us know what you do. :D ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

You are right, there are still 2 months left and I can just see if anything catches my attention. The problem is also availability and it is only for 1 night.

I remember there is a Make a Wish foundation or something like that. Has anyone done anything to donate a room to a charity?

Thanks

For Make-A-Wish -

You could always call your local chapter. They are the ones that know what needs they have. It seems there must always be a Disney wish going on.

And while I'm at it - another good donation to M-A-W is airline miles or Amex points. (one never knows when it's a good time to make a plug, so one is always making them!)

I would definately call your local Make-A-Wish foundation.

Sorry, I didn't know you wanted to donate to a charity or my original response would have reflected that.

Maybe you could make contact with a local branch of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. (sp?) They send people all over the United States to compete in runs and walks to raise money for the society.

Let us know what you do. :D

Donations of this sort are most appreciated by the Make A Wish Foundation. This can be done through make a wish of Maitland Florida. . It is not however considered charity if you tell but It has been done before.

Thanks for the info.

I just talked to MAW foundation in NJ and they will have someone get back to me on Monday. Also sent an e-mail to another charity based on Scott's pm.

If nothing works out, the 4 pts will just expire. Otherwise, it would be nice if someone else can use it. I would even consider using 12 pts to book at BCV/BWV/WLV if it would make any difference.

Are there others who would like to donate and maybe we can put together multiple nights?

twinmomplus2, thanks, I will see if I can call her on Monday.

Last year several of us pooled points and donated to a young single mom who was terminally ill with cancer. Several of us donated points and got them a week at OKW. Several others on the boards got involved, and they ended up with another 5 days at AKL! There are always things like that to be organized.

We also donated 80 points to our DS private high school for a silent auction fundraiser. They put it together with free airline tickets, and someone got a really nice OKW 5 night trip in a studio and the school got $3800!

Give Kids the World Village is in Orlando and they work with the different Wish organizations. What the Village is is a place that the families stay when they go to WDW. Sometimes they have more wishes than space and they have to reserve rooms on site. You might contact them they could probably use the night. They have a web site

Hey Megan's Mom! Hope ya'll have a great trip!

lat, I just wanted to say how very nice it is of you to do that for someone. GKTW sometimes is full and do put families in Disney Resorts. The work directly with MAW and other wish groups that have children who wish to go to Disney. I am sure they would really appreciate the donation. Thanks for what you are doing to help bring some magic into someone's life.

About donating to an auction....

How do you do this? Do you make sure you can reserve the time you want, reserve it, and then list all those things on the auction information? Or do you simply say "Two nights, any Sun - Thurs, from May 1 - 31 or June 1 - 30 or Aug 15 - 31 at Old Key West Villas, contingent on availability."? What do you do when donating points/nights to an auction?

Thanks!

P.S. Hi lat!!!

GoofyDisney, good to hear from you here.

Donating to an auction? I am curious how this works.

I called MAW Foundation and spoke to Ruthie and they don't take just 1 night. I left a message with Robin in her organization to see if they can offer 1 night to a wish family before their wish is granted. Not sure if this would work.

Called GKTW, they don't take this and they are checking with their CFO.

Oh well, maybe I will just let the 4 pts expire.

Wouldn't it be nice if DVC can one day let members donate their odd pts and pool them together in one account for certain designated charities?

Call Member services - ask to speak to a supervisor and ask her/him - if DVC has anything now set up to do for charities.

I would think they would tell us - but sometimes it works to ask.

your problem will be is that your points can not be transfer - I think they need to be able to transfer.

OH WOW!!! That is absolutely awesome! I am crying once again here. Ya'll are so amazing. As a mom and a full time care giver to two special needs children and also a guest at GKTW I can tell you that you are blessing those parents more than you will ever know. I know that they may never have the opportunity to thank you so I would like to thank you for them. How wonderful! Thanks so much for having such a giving spirit! May you be richly blessed!

lat - that is so great! Good for you!

I think I will start a thread about an auction.....My guide did this once, but he was not available today...so I will start a thread and see if anyone else has done it.

Again, nice thing to do!

mommie2angels and megan's mom. god bless you all.

Your picture touched me and I feel so blessed despite the daily stress over things. I was talking to my boss in the morning complaining about the struggle between a full time job and my kids. However, when I saw your picture, I feel I should really just count my blessings and be happy that I can do something, however small it is, for someone else.

Thanks for the info and now I know whom to call next time if I have leftover points.
