We go around Washington D.C....it's a little out of the way but has proven to be faster as there is no traffic. E-mail me Tink0706@aol.com if you would like the directions. We live in upstate NY.

It's also a good idea to bypass Richmond.

Try to stop at the Summerton Diner (http://www.intrepidtraveler.com/travels/summerton.html) in Summerton, SC.

The directions posted above look pretty good. You just want to get on 95 and head south. However, be careful. In New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike and 95 are not one in the same. Once from NJ we just followed the signs for 95 and we went out of our way. You want to take the NJ Turnpike south to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and continue south on 95 from there.

Where in the mid hudson valley will you be?

From anywhere along the Hudson River (Poughkeepsie, Albany, etc.) the quickest way to get to the NJ Turnpike is to take the NY State Thruway (87) south to Rt 17. Take Rt. 17 south to Paramus and get on the Garden State Parkway south. Continue south on the Garden State Parkway until you get to the exit for the NJ Turnpike - head south from there.

Good luck.

Get EZ-Pass. It is good on the NY Thruway and the NJ Turnpike. Should cover most of the tolls (but not S of DC).
