Free Hopper Upgrade from child to adult

I thought I read somewhere that you can get a free upgrade on left over days on a Hopper pass if the individual has become an adult since the ticket was issued. Is this true? If so, has anyone done this and can enlighten me on the details?

Hi Cygnus!

Welcome to the DIS and our Budget Board! :)

You are correct, if a child has days left on a hopper pass and the next time that they go to use it, they are no longer a "child" you do not have to pay anything additional to gain admission to WDW.

There really are no "details," you just use the child's hopper pass like you usually would.

As Hertz would say, not exactly. ;)

What you need to do is take the old child's pass along with the now older than 10 child to any Guest Relations. They will take the child ticket and convert it to an adult ticket that will contain the exact same unused park admissions (and any plus options if applicable) as the child ticket had left. There is no charge for this.

There is also no time limit on this. If you have a child's ticket that your child used 20 years ago, you can still have this done. Same rules apply. Your "child" must also be with you and his/her age has to fit correctly into the time frame that the original ticket was used.

Wow, this is good to know. My "child" is now 17 and I just thought the ticket would probably go to waste. I still have it incase I ever knew someone who wanted it. Thanks.

I have said this many times on these boards: Disney does not penalize a child for growing up. That's why they allow the child's pass to be exchanged for free. The only thing you have to remember is that the "child" has to be there when you do the upgrade and his/her age has to match with the previous usage of the ticket.

It's always a nice surprise when you find out something you had previously thought worthless to you is really worth quite a bit. :)

This is great news for us too! DS was 7 on our last visit and will be 12 when we return next year. I was wondering if we could "upgrade" the remaining day on his parkhopper :teeth:

You can exchange the one day child's admission for a similar one day adult admission for not charge. Just follow the instructions in my previous post in this thread.

If you want to upgrade the ticket to something else, you can but I wouldn't. You will lose the benefit of the child's discounted price as you will be credited at the old ticket's prorated child's cost and charged the new ticket's adult cost.
