On our 10th wedding anniversary my husband and I had a lovely dinner at Victoria & Alberts. I would have added romantic; however, for that I probably would have to have taken someone else :). My husbands idea of a romantic date would be beer, burgers and Bruins. Oh well...I digress...
The evening started off well when the WL valet offered to drive us to dinner rather than calling a cab. This is the second time that has occurred for us there. We had 6:30 reservations and all but one table was filled. There was a wedding party in the room off to the left and the bride wore a lovely black and gold gown (albeit with a white veil)...again I digress...now to the food.
I made certain that most of my choices contained either seafood or nuts since I can't have either when with my daughter. and DH and I both opted for the wine pairings unfortunately, by the end, I couldn't finish all of the wine or the dessert. Next time, I'll request dessert first! The service was wonderful, but unfortunately we couldn't understand a word that our Albert said because of a heavy accent.
Amuse Bouche was a small shrimp over some creamy mushroom stuff (technical cuisine term). It was very good.
For the cold appetizer, I had the Maine Lobster Cannelloni in Jicama with Carmellini Beans and DH had Applewood Roasted African Pheasant with Cider Vinaigrette. Both were excellent.
For the hot appetizer DH had Cast Iron Roasted Quail with Shaved Fennel and Artichokes while I had Blue Crab Stuffed Squash Blossoms with Squash Ragout. Again - very good.
For the soup we both had the Sweet Potato Almond Cream with Black Pepper Foam and I can only say that it was one of the most amazing things I have ever tasted. Absolutely my favorite part of the meal (even better than the dessert!)
For my entree I had the Atlantic Turbot with Sweet Corn and California Crayfish and DH had the Herb Crusted Jamison Farm Lamb with Heirloom Tomatoes. Both were extremely good but compared to the other courses, the others were better.
I had the cheese palate cleanser and DH chose the sorbet. I have to say that I was very disappointed that the cheese served wasn't a stilton since I've always wanted to try Stilton, but it was still quite good (Vacherin Fribourgeois with Black Mission Fig Chutney).
For dessert I had the Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle and DH had the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee - both to die for but again, too stuffed to finish.
It was a lovely meal and I'm glad that we went - thanks to everyone who recommended it.
One interesting note: when we left at 9:30 there was a party of 4 that included 2 children (my guess would be about 10-12 years old (boy and girl). I know this has been debated here and I have to say I was surprised to see it - more that they had chosen the late seating than that they were there at all. I've no doubt they were well-behaved and I have to say they must have amazing taste to eat at a restaurant like that so young.
