All of those amounts I posted before are on page 63 of the Disney Cruise Line brochure/book. It also says:

For you convenience, a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine and deck service tabs. All gratuities can be charged to you room charge.

Tipping the Dining Manager and for Room Service is at your discretion.

Then there's also the guys who take your luggage at the port (we always tip $1 per bag) and the counselors in the Oceaneer Club and Lab. We've never really used the kids programs so I don't have a clue about that. Has anyone ever tipped the councelors?

Wow Denise, can we all say "drama queen?" Are you sure you don't need to up your medication? You will never be the "old lady that lived in the shoe" because that is not a Disney fairytale. Now, I think a good casting call for you would be the Evil Stepmother in Cinderella (I will be playing Cinderella, of course) or Grumpy the Dwarf ( I will be playing Snow White, of course).

Thanks for the "According to Jim" information. I knew they were on cruise but I didn't know it was going to air tonight. I am gonna check it out and see if I notice any new drinks to try.

Peg, I am so glad you have come over to the "evil" side. Please feel free to drop your kids off at Denise's cabin...right next to mine....and join all the fun people for baileys and coffee.

Thanks Sandy for setting me straight. This just confirms that I really have no idea what day it is or where I am going.

Jill, you are always going somewhere fun. Did you marry a millionaire? Does he have a brother? Does he have a father? How about grandpa? Grandpa must need some love.

Frank, my 7 year old, got the spiked hair-cut today. He looked in the mirror and said, "Yeah, now I am a man." OHhhhhhhh jeeez! I told my "man" he should go get a job and start paying rent.

Denine, welcome back. Denise has been whining a lot since you were gone. Don't worry, I was able to watch over the thread and make sure everyone was being sarcastic yet witty. Not an easy task with this bunch. Glad you are home safe.

Well I have a bid on ebay for the cutest dress for my granddaughter for the cruise but there's some lady trying to outbid me. It ends in 30 minutes so I have to kill some time before I can go to bed. I refuse to let her win! It's a matter of principal now. (The principal being that I want it!)

Tomorrow's friday!! Can't wait. It's felt like friday since tuesday.
Been a really long week. I don't think that'll happen when I start my other job. (Gum wrapper-picker-upper).

Have to go check and see what that ebay witch is up to...talk to you later.....Denise

Hello everyone.......

Hey mom, How come I dont hear you bidding on cute little boy outfits??? Huh?? I'll wait for the answer........

Rose......I'm like my mom, I love going away. I hope when I'm her age I get to go away for months at a time like she does!! When I went to the Poconos I took Alec but not the baby and this time to Disney it is just AJ (husband) and myself going, we are not brining our kids. The only reason they are going on the cruise with us is because my mom will be there to babysit!!!!!! whoopee!! What fun!.......Oh and if he was a millionaire, I'd be collecting alimony and child support on some tropical island somewhere! ::yes::

We had a great time in WDW. The weather was warm most of the time and sunny! :sunny: Can't wait till our next trip in May and then it's the cruise.

In the mean time, it is back to reality which means I have to work this weekend.

Good morning from Rainy Southern CA. Denise, I love ebay. I actually sell a lot of stuff on ebay....besides the children.

I don't really have anything new to report. Hope you are all doing well. Jill have a great trip to DisneyWorld. You do know the true Disney is out here in California? Everything else is just imitation. How about you and hubby take a road-trip? Leave the kids with your mom!

This isn't Jill, it's her Mom (Denise, aka tevagirl, or as other people on this board would have me be know....the official babysitter of the Disney Cruise Line.) I am at her house with Alec who did not get to go with his Mom and Dad to Disney World. The baby is at 'Nothermommom's house. (This is what Alec used to call his other Grandmom when he was very little.) Anyway, I thought I would let you all know that my darling daughter landed safely this morning...she called me while they were taxiing (is that how you spell that?) in to let me know she made it okay. It only took some major alcohol last night and a couple of Xanax this morning to get her to leave her children and get on the plane. She called me last night at 11pm, a little tipsy, and wanted my opinion whether I thought she'd make it to Florida alive. I said that yes, I thought she would. I was right. The last vacation we all took together involved flying also and I swore that I would never, EVER, go anywhere with her again if she had to get on a plane. She's a fruit loop. Anyway, guess what they promised Alec when they get back from DISNEY WORLD. He's getting.....are you ready for this???.....a dinner at an Outback restaurant! Isn't he just the luckiest kid ever? I informed him in my most grandmotherly way that he could get alot more out of them than some dinner at Outback. Don't you worry....I'm going to teach him a few things about the word guilt and how he can use it. Outback.....geez, cut me a break. Have to go see what he's doing....talk to you all later.....Denise

Hello Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend off, Denine. It was beautiful here, I opened my windows and aired out the house...it was great.

I just hung up from Jill. They were getting ready to leave for Fantasmic. They have never seen it so I hope they do tonight. She said the weather there yesterday and today was very nice but they froze on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday Magic Kingdom was mobbed but there was no one in Epcot. They were probably all in MK because they were having the Spectromagic parade. My DH is at Jill's house with Alec. He's going to stay there tonight since he doesn't have to go into work. Tomorrow after I get home from work I'll go over and "Nothermommom" will bring Andrew home. I've missed him....can't wait to get my hands on him. I'll stay there with the kids until Jill and AJ get home which should be around 8:30 or 9 o'clock. I hope she doesn't read this part...but I've missed her too. All I've had around me for the last four days have been fairly normal people. (Notice I said "fairly normal"....no one in my family is normal.) It's been quite boring.

Anyway, I guess I'll go get my shower and PJ's on and wait for the Academy Awards to come on. I imagine Rose is probably getting into her finest attire and getting ready to walk down the red carpet.....she must be up for the best actress award, don't you think? I mean no one could possibly be like that for real, could they? I'm rooting for you, Rose!

Happy Friday!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend and I hope you don't have too bad of a one at work, Denine. I used to work in ICU (I was a unit clerk there) before I went to the department I'm in now and unless I was missing something fun at home I usually didn't mind the weekends. There were less Doctors in, less tests, less everything. I worked three thirteen hour shifts then and thats the only thing I miss about being there. I am still not used to working five days a week but I do like getting out at 4 o'clock. Can't have everything, right?

We are having our granddaughter's 3rd birthday party here on Sunday so I guess I'll be busy tomorrow.

Anyway, hello to everybody....we are now one day closer to our cruise!

I am sorry I haven't written. I know you guys missed me terribly. I have no excuse except I have been enjoying the 80 degree temperatures here in San Diego. (thinks she might be rubbing it in and liking it).

We are heading to Legoland next weekend. I know, it isn't Disney but heck it is 10 minutes away. I can't stand those lego's though. The kids come home with these 1000 piece kits and then I have lego's all over my floor for weeks.

I'm going nuts here. DS has an ear infection and has been home from school for two days. He's acting normal, but has a fever so I'm keeping him home. He's having a great time playing all day, but I can't get anything done. Can't wait for him to get better and go back to school.

I have been MIA again. It is hard to find enough computer time! I tried to get on the boards the other day, but couldn't. They must have been having problems.

Jill: We own DVC, a timeshare through Disney. Yes, we stay on site, most often at the Old Key West Resort. We love it there. We have a 1-bedroom for May. We can't wait, especially since we got a bunch of snow yesterday.

We made our after cruise ressies for OKW.

We have Chef Mickey PS for May for breakfast.

Denise: I work every other weekend and that is it. I used to work more, but decided to stay home and raise Kaleigh. Maybe I should say that I used to GO to work more. I think I actually WORK more now! ::yes:: It is a lot quieter on the weekends. I am pretty much my own boss. I get there at 6 AM, pull all of my meds and hand them out. I leave at 10 AM. Our place is too small to need 2 nurses all day. We just need 2 for the morning med pass. I just hate getting up so early and it only gives me 2 hours away from Kaleigh each day. Once I am there, I am fine.

I am heading out of town this weekend. A get-away with no husband, no kids, no nothing. Just me, me , me. Going to visit my high school girlfriend... (you guys know that I graduated from high school 10 years ago, right?).....and party like it is 1999! OH wait, 1999 has passed. Okay, I am gonna party like its 2099. Yeah, that works.

I am soooo looking forward to getting away. No one knocking on the bathroom door asking me what I am doing. NO one wanting me to get them something to eat. No one telling me that they need a hug. And, that is just the husband! Awwww, can you say heaven?

We had a great time at Legoland last weekend. Denise, anytime you want to visit California, let me know. Ohhhhh no, you can't stay here but I would be happy to find you and the family a nice hotel where you can take me out to dinner!

Have a great weekend everyone. Be SAfe

Hi from Minnesota,

I have been MIA for quite a while. Spring is finally here. Had our first thunderstorms of the season today. The snow is almost gone from our back yard. It is looking kinda of dirty around here.

I am still trying to find a good airline pricing for our travel dates in October. If anyone from Minnesota has found anything let me know. Sun Country really came through for our December trip to WDW but still is at $300.00 round trip in October. Of course Northwest is way up there on the non-stops.

I was reading how bad the rip currents are in some areas of Florida right now.
The advice was if you can't swim don't go into the ocean above your ankles.

It brought me back to our last trip to St. Martin, we were at Orient Beach and my daughter and I were pulled under near shore. I hung on to her feet as we were both pulled under. That was the only memory from that cruise I didn't like. I don't think we will be going to Orient beach this time.

It is getting close to the magical 6 month point. That means it was 6 months from our last cruise. My DH took out his cruise pants (you know the ones with the stretchy waist band) the other day and joked how his is ready for his 21 buffets in a row. He also demonstrated to all who would watch how far his waist band can be stretched for the cruise. As we get closer to the cruise he does this more often. It is going to be a long 6 months.

Hope all is well with all signd up so far.

Hi Nancy

LOL about your DH's cruise pants.

Yeah, the rip currents have been really bad down here. And it's been super windy the last few days. It was so windy last night that it must have downed some power lines. Our power was out from 4:30 am to around 7 am. I know this because my fan and sound spa went off and I couldn't sleep anymore. I have to remember to get batteries for the sound spa.
I think we might go to the beach today or tomorrow to check out the waves (no swimming). That must have been really scary when you and your DD got pulled under.

Boardwalk4us
03-26-2004, 07:10 PM
Hi Sandy,

Can you eleborate on the rip-currents. Do the upper winds cause them or what? It was our very first experience with them as we are here in Minnesota so when we get to a ocean beach we love to experience it, but not that way. We once stayed in Hollywood (I think) Florida and enjoyed that area. Is that close to you??

Nancy

Zandy595
03-27-2004, 10:55 AM
I didn't really know how to explain it so I found this. Rip Currents (http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/guides/mtr/hurr/damg/rip.rxml)

We went to the beach yesterday to see the waves. The water was a beautiful turquoise. They had the warning flag up for dangerous conditions (and man-o-war). There was only one crazy women in the water and the life guard was watching her very closely.

Hollywood is about an hour and 45 minutes south of us. My uncle lives there.

Denine
03-27-2004, 11:22 AM
Nancy: LOL about your DH's cruise pants!

We are trying to switch from late dining to early dining. We decided it would be easier with Kaleigh even though we do not like early dining.

Just counting down the days till our WDW trip in May. We are leaving 2 days earlier than the counter says and staying at Coronado Springs for 2 days, then we move over to OKW for the duration.

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well. My DH and I have been busy planning our next vacations. He has a Marine Corp reunion coming up in June that is being held in Las Vegas and I have my annual May trip to Myrtle Beach. Can't wait....that's one of my favorite vacations. My girlfriend and I go down for about two weeks. We rent a condo on the beach and do absolutely nothing but go to the beach and shop! Heaven. We are trying a different place to stay this year. It's a condo that is on the top floor of the building and it has two decks. One is covered and one isn't. We spend alot of time out on the deck. We have our coffee out there every morning and when we come off the beach we sit out there with a nice cold drink. (A blender is the first thing on our list to pack!) Hmmm...I can taste those drinks already! As a matter of fact....that's exactly what I plan on doing on our veranda in October! I think I see a pattern starting to develop here.

It's 9pm, DH just left for work and there's nothing on TV. I am a little bored. I could clean but I'm not. Maybe I'll just go to bed. So good night and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

We have sun here today, no wind 46 degrees and we are lovin it. The baby squirrels were playing yesterday in our trees. There were 4 of them. The chipmunks are busy and Mr. & Mrs. Duck (Mallards) who visit us every year at spring came back to eat under the bird feeder. It Is Official, It's SPRING!

Hopefully some sun shine will come your way.

Yup, Yup, Yup! We noticed! :wave2: We are sooo jazzed! Hey, anyone been on the Eastern before? I have a question about an excursion that's offered in St. John's - but I can't find it in the Disney info...... My daughter and I wanna' do the Dolphin/Stingray excursion...and I can't find it offered in the excursion sign up stuff. :( I know it exists, 'cause we've been to the web site for the company that offers it.... any help would be appreciated.

Also, what do you guys think about the little girls dressing up like princesses onboard? Is it "cheesy" and frowned upon, or is it accepted, and seen as cute? My DD 7 wants to.... but i dunno' I'm a little nervy about looking like a dumb tourist - but we're both Disney FREAKS so we could shine it on if we got a "thumbs up" or two... Whatcha' think? Thanks:rolleyes:

WldWcnWmn, I think dressing your daughter in a princess outfit is a terrific idea. I see little girls in the princess costumes and think they always look adorable...not cheesy. As a matter of fact, I am going to dress up my 7 year old son in a Belle Costume. Poor kid doesn't know it yet!

We are so giddy about the whole thing, I got the cruise video last night in the mail, and I actually cried when I watched it. Isn't that sad?!?! We're such Disnoids, I think it's in the DNA (or is that DIS-NA?) I am a single parent and I've been telling my daughter since she was a little-er kid that one day I'd take her, and we're actually going! I think I am more excited than she is. Oh well...better go check out the local Disney Store and see what kinda' deal I can get on princess dresses...too bad we're not going AFTER Halloween....hmmmm. Anyone know about the dolphin fantasy excursion supposedly avaiable on St. John's? You guys have a great day!

HI All
I know I have kinda been mia!! IT has been really crazy around here with all the wedding stuff going.Oldest son get married May 29th (thank god) oops did I say that out loud? We were finally able to pay a nice family to take him. I mean he finally found a nice girl.

WldWcnWmn I think it's a wonderful Idea for your daughter to wear a princess dress. I am hoping to wear mine from the wedding. I don't care if I have to sleep in it I will get to wear this dress again.

Well all have a great weekend and be safe.

Mother of the groom !!!! Will I ever just be Peg again??????????:bride: :groom: :scratchin

tevagirl
04-03-2004, 09:48 PM
Well now if everyone is wearing a princess dress then I want one too! Maybe we can even get the old cranky geezer to wear one. And if not I could probably take him anyway. Once they hit a certain age they don't scare me any more. Peg will need to vent after the wedding so she can be my back up. Oh I just love planning things! We are going to have so much fun!

WldWcnWmn...I can relate with your daughter, sometimes I feel like a green bouncy thing and unfortunately I often look like one. By the way...congratulations on being able to take this cruise with your little girl, you deserve to be excited!

I am thinking maybe we should all bring our princess crowns.I would love to wear mine by the pool at dinner or just strolling around the deck. It can be our own little club. Since my daughter has the Queen position all tied up. I am going to get mine out and start polishing it up today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am gonna be a PRINCESS !!!!!!!!

Hi,

I'll be joinging all of you on the cruise with my dh and 2 dds's who are 5 and 3. This will be our third cruise, but first with Disney. Since we're coming from Australia we'll be spending 2 weeks at WDW before the cruise. My dh is hoping that after being immersed in disney for 3 weeks I'll be sick of it. I think he's most hopeful indeed. This will be my dd5 4th Disney trip - 3rd to WDW.
Hmmm, what else...I'm a SAHM and spend most of my free time planning my next disney trip (as dh says I'm never happier than when I'm planning our next overseas holiday) or scrapbooking.

Libby Libby Libby...doesn't your husband realize that the more often you do Disney the more you want to do it? It doesn't have the effect that he's hoping for that's for sure. Hopefully he'll never realize that fact and you can just keep planning your Disney vacations! Where will you be staying before the cruise? My DH, my DGD (age 3), and I will be going down on the Tuesday before and staying at the Wilderness Lodge with some friends. The rest of our family will be meeting us on the ship.

Anyway...I have to go to work so welcome to the board. The people here are so nice, I can't wait to meet them. Some of them are a little delusional...they think someone on this cruise is going to be the official babysitter...but other than that they're okay.

Talk to you later, Denise

Hi Denise,

We will be arriving on Sunday 3rd and staying at the Carribean Beach, then transfering to the Wilderness Lodge the following Sunday for 6 nights. Then 2 nights at the Beach Club after the cruise. We stayed at WL last trip and really loved it. I'm very excited because we were orginally going next Jan but our new house has been delayed and we probably won't be moving into it until Dec so we moved our trip forward to October. The downside is I have less time to save spending money.

Hi Libby and welcome!!

Let me be the first to tell you how much Denise loves children. She has so thoughtfully offered to watch all the kids that will be coming from this board isn't she wonderful:sunny: From what I hear she would be just miserable with out them. My two boys already refer to her a Aunt Denise hugs and kisses!!!!

I dunno' if we need to "burden" poor Denise, but didn't I read up there a while back that someone was bringing a blender? And weren't one of you in charge of the Rum? I for sure have the surge protector packed and ready...I am gonna' put a lot of faith into the hands of the Club Counselors (not to mention calling cards & tips) 'cause this "Queen" (DD says "mom, you're too old to be a princess" nice) is gonna' have a single parent's blast!!! Speaking of blast, I bought a Sleeping Beauty princess gown on Ebay for DD for Captain's Night (shhh don't tell DD) and I told her she could bring her Jasmine costume from last Halloween. We're gonna do WDW for a week before the trip, maybe I can hook up a crown or two at the park....too old to be a princess, I'll show her....you other Princesses just do the standard beauty queen/princess wave  when you see us!!!(We'll be the two girls wearing the crowns!) I can't wait, I can't wait.....

It's me again. I love it when the girls dress up in their princess costumes. It is so cute. We have been on 5 Disney cruises and it is done all the time. DD who will be 2 on the cruise is bringing hers. I, of course, do have MY princess Aurora tiara.
I will be dressing up like a princess, at least as much as I can.

Has anyone looked into the Romance at sea package?

I will just be happy to drop Miss Kaleigh off at Flounders so we can go to Palo.

Hi Denine,

We booked the Romance at Sea package. Not that I really want any romance but the rest of it looks good :) . One of the other couples that are going with us also booked one. It sounds like it's worth the money. Actually....for me not to have to stress about Palo reservations is worth it alone. Last year I had nightmares about getting them. Last year I was a little nutty about the whole trip. I am a tad bit better this time. At least I think I am  .

And, WldWcnWmn, you can bet your sweet bippy (my God, I haven't said that since the 60's....what the heck is a bippy anyway?) that there will be a blender on board!

Talk to all you Princesses later....Denise

Lot of action on the board lately. And, I love to be part of the action.

We are gonna book the romance package too. Someone did a whole write up on one of the threads with pictures too. It looked really good. I am wondering if the package comes with a young, virile, rich stud. Ohhhhh, don't get me wrong. My husband is all those things and more (coughs uncontrolllably) but I think he might like to watch a baseball game. Will check the brochure on who is included.

Kids are in camp today. They have 11 more days off for Spring Break. HELP ME!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!! SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!

tevagirl

We've never had a problem getting Palo or brunch ressies, but we didn't have to make flounder's ressies either. How much romance could there be with a 2 year old in the room? I would love a massage. I already plan on getting a facial. If I booked it, I thought I might surprise DH since it will be our anniversary.

Can I have spring break too?????????

Denine: Christy and I are also looking into the romance package (it will be our 25th anniversary.......in fact, Jeff and Nancy are also celebrating the big 25!!) This could be quite the cruise!!!

I just hope I don't hear my name on the PA the time as the ship pulls from port (last year my card must not have registered as I re-boarded the ship in Cozumel and rumor had it that I was still jamming at Carlos and charlies...

Nancy: How are things going? Have you booked flights yet? Time to start the planning for another Minnesota cruise meet soon.

We booked Vero for one night after the cruise so don't have to rush to the airport (stretch the vacation out as long as possible).

I know everyone already knows about them, but I just "found" them and they look like good door sign material to me! I am going to be broke before I even get my foot on the pier!

Oh well, half of the fun (maybe a third of it:crazy: ) is the planning!!

Hi to all.

Doug,

All is well here. Wow 25 years for you and Christy too. We will have to look into the romance package. We have not booked our flights yet been checking everyday but not much under $300.00. Have you found any good deals? Matt has also been looking.

Vero Beach is a great idea. How far is that from the port? We are still not quite sure what day we are coming back. We are also going to WDW first week of December. Got a great deal from Sun Country at $134 round trip because we had 12 people.

Tell Christy she inspired me with painting the walls in the house with a little Disney magic after the visit to your house. Now the kitchen has little red mickeys with stars and the words to "When you wish upon a Star" on the walls. The kids say it fits me fine. I am still not brave enough to do the large paintings like Christy, so I will just stick to the simple stuff. Also Lia is now into scrap booking so she can hang out with Christy and Karol if they do any on the cruise.

Alisa is in traveling soccer and has been practicing since January. Lia is going to intern at our business this summer and go to school so she can take the fall semester off just to go on the cruise and our December trip. She is 21 and still wants to be around the mouse.

FYI - The commercial that was shot at our house last fall is now on the internet at Sunsetter.com. If you click on the information video, our house is the one with the host talking at it.

We are up for a pre-cruise meeting. There is another family in Mendota Heights "GeneralMax" booked for this cruise also. Haven't seen her on the board for a while but would be great to invite them also. After all we would still be strangers if it weren't for these boards.

Tell your family Hi and we will have to pre-plan our next Minnesota pre-cruise meet.

Are we going to plan on a Palo's brunch again??? Matt what do you think?

Happy Easter & Happy Spring to all of our fellow cruisers.

Hello All,
I have been absent for some time, busy at work and we just returned from our first trip to Hawaii. I accomplished my vacation goal of not rebooking while I was there...I think I deserve quite a bit of praise for this, my DH doesn't...see if I book the REAS package !!! Last time I was on this thread there were lots of promises of Baileys and coffee, now I hear a blender is going to be on board ? How good can life be ? What do I need to contribute ? We are driving from Orlando, so will be making a stop for provisions. While we were on a whale watching cruise in Hawaii I heard great things about the Dubloon Sail and Snorkel excursion from another DCL person...we won't be doing that one, DH will do the scuba dive, and DS and myself will do the beach days...but the woman I talked to could not say enough good things about this excursion. See you all in 185 days !!!

Denine

I could use a cruise right now too. Luckily we are going to WDW soon. I need some warm temperatures and sunshine!

We saw Paul & Pam at Halloween in WDW and they said they were going on the 10 day Christmas cruise. That sounds like a lot of fun! Some people with cruised with 2 years ago will be on the cruise with Beano.

We are thinking of buiding a new home so we start painting tonight. It needs to be done if we move or not.

Can't wait to see some of you again and meet the rest of you!

Just wondering if any of you can recommend some good shore excursions. We did a 10 night cruise with RCCL in Feb 2002 which included all the same ports (except of course Coco Cay). We did the stingrays in Grand Cayman and Xcaret in Cozumel. Didn't really care much for Key West but we had 2 sick kids in strollers that day which I'm sure didn't help. I had been thinking one of the kyaking (sp?) trips might be good. Any input much appreciated.

I was wondering what you guys knew about attractions around Port Canaveral?!?! Our flight to Oregon doesn't leave MCO until 10:00pm on the 23rd and I don't want to sit around the airport after disembarking..... I was thinking about renting a car from the port and returning it to MCO around 7 or 8. Does anyone who's done a cruise out of Port Canaveral know if there's anything to do there?

We went to the mall today to get party stuff and dresses for the cruise. Mekayla's set for the trip! Went to Home Depot for the paint chips to make the door sign!! Anyone know what the room keys look like? We bought cast lanyards on Ebay hoping that would be a good way to move around the ship hands free, but now I am wondering if the keys are credit cards like hotels, or if they're something else... anyone know? Also, thinking about Palo's, but I am single...should I bother with a "nice, formal" dinner even though I'll be alone? Whatcha' think? We're six months ayway guys!!!!! We're gettin' there!

Denise, you're a Doll!! We'll have to arrange when you guys are thinking about Palos, I would love to have a night out (like a real adult) so, if you have a party of three or more, I'd love to join! I don't want to intrude on a couple's thing...and I got the A-O.K. from Mekayla! ;) I will check out the Space center, who knows, there maybe something going on there...Mekayla is a girl scout, maybe they have a cool patch or something for her uniform.... Hmmmm:smooth: I am sure we'll be pretty beached out by the time the cruise is over, buy maybe CoCo beach is an option, too. Do you guys think boredom is a consequence of a 7 day cruise?? looking at the "at sea" days, makes me wonder if there's enough to do on the ship?!?! Whatcha' think?

tevagirl
04-19-2004, 10:00 PM

WldWcnWmn ~ There's so much to do during "at sea" days. On our first Disney cruise we didn't have any "at sea" days and we never got to do all the stuff I wanted to do. Have you checked out the threads about this topic or looked at the
Navigators (http://dcltribute.com/navigators/east_carib/daily.htm) on Dave's site?

There's the spa, movies, sitting in the sun by the pool, the exercise room, sitting in a comfy chair on deck 4 reading a book, bingo, classes, internet cafe, coffee bar, and probably a lot more that I can't think of right now.

Hi! I am getting so excited about the cruise. There are 11 of us doing a family reunion cruise and only two have cruised before. Those two "cruised" when they were in the Navy, so they did not have the luxuries that it sounds like we will have on the cruise. Do you mind answering a few questions for me? How expensive are the souvenier mugs, and do you recommend us buying them? I am looking forward to seeing you all in your princess outfits, waving your princess wands. My DGD will be 3 1/2 at cruise time, so I may need to take her shopping for a princess outfit. It sounds like the staff will be treating us like real princesses! Then reality hits when we come home . . . :-(

I guess the first thing we do when we get home is book our next Disney cruise, right? :-)

tevagirl

Hi and welcome! My DGD will also be 3 1/2 when we cruise. That's a good age to be a princess. Actually any age is a good age if you're a princess!

Are you talking about the unlimited soda package? We purchased it last year and for us it was worth it as we drink alot of soda. (I do believe I am a coke addict....diet coke that is). It was $35.00 a person for the week. We didn't get the mug though. I didn't really want to lug it all over the ship. We had a sticker put on our KTTW card and we just had to show that when we were getting our drinks.

Have to go.....Survivor's coming on...once again welcome and looking forward to getting to know you before our trip!

Denise

Thanks for the info, Tevagirl. Iwill be buying soda stickers for my KTTW card also. I'm glad you mentioned the stickers ~ the mug thing wouldn't work out well for me. I can see it now ~ I'd want a soda and my mug would be back in the stateroom. I'd ask my DH to go get me the mug and he would probably tell me that I should have bought the sticker instead of the mug. :-(

I'm looking forward to meeting you on the cruise. Probably your DGD and my DGD will meet in the Oceaneers club. I've heard people say that the kids are upset when you go to pick them up because they are having a great time there. I sure hope so!

Gotta go get ready for work. Gotta earn some money so I can buy Disney Dollars and support "the mouse".

Hi, Zandy595! My DGD has a half-sister who will be 19 months old when we cruise. She will be too young for the Oceaneers club so she will probably spend alot of time poolside :-)

It sounds like there will be alot of family reunions on this cruise. It sounds like a really nice place for family reunions with something for everyone.

Tevagirl, I am also a diet Coke addict. I also have a fondness for chocolate ~ I've heard the desserts on cruises are unbelievable! Guess I'll need to go check out the gym as soon as I board.

I am so glad I found this link. It will be nice to meet people on the cruise after meeting them on this message board.

Welcome aboard Lisa! I haven't been on much, just had my third child in January. This will be our family's 4th cruise with disney! It will be: Myself (Julie), DH- Garry, DD- Makenzie (5yrs), DS- Garry (3yrs) and DD- Brooke (age 3 1/2mo. : 9mo. when we cruise). YES WE ARE NUTS!!!! My 14yr old stepdaughter will not be able to go with us this time, so it will be just the 5 of us.

Hey, do you daughters like to babysit? LOL!!! We have been on 3 disney cruises and YET to have made it to Palo's!! This time WE ARE GOING!!!! (keep your fingers crossed). OH, wait a minute, did someone else volunteer to babysit the youngin's??? Or was that wishful thinking on my part?:genie:

Well anyways, hi there and welcome to a great bunch of people. I will be posting more and more as the time arrives. I have been lurking so I have been keeping up with the babysitters :hyper: right, Denise? For some reason, I can't seem to find the time to post. I wonder why?:scratchin

My boys are slightly younger and will be in the young oceanears club. Oldest DS is almost 7 (at time of cruise) and youngest will be 3. From what I read on the boards they will spend some time together in the club but not all and that is perfect and enough to give the youngest some security, not that he needs it.

Hello, all you fellow princesses! I need a little help. I can't figure out how to get to the port from MCO. It's just Me & Mekayla, so cheaper would be better.....:smooth: rental cars don't seem like the deal they should be, since it's only the two of us

I know Mickey's bus will take you, but I can't find where to pre-purchase the transfers, and honestly I don't know if it's $50.00 per person each way, or if it's one way. Also, the only transportation information I could find didn't specify if Mickey's bus will take you to MCO after the cruise. It said that they go to the hotels (WDW) but we're doing our week at WDW before the 16th and flying out the 23rd at 2:30pm.
We are returning our rental to MCO around 8am on the 16th, and I just haven't figured out how to get to the boat. I know you guys that do this vacation a lot have the answer...I'm sure it's even a simple one...but :bounce: Please help!

On the lighter side, I bought our Tiara's today!! So when you see us wearing them (yes, I said "us") at the sail away, just come up and say, "Hi, Thea & Mekayla" 'cause it will be us!!!princess:

Hi, Denine and Wide Awake,

My hubby and I will also be on the CA to FL trip next August (2005). I can hardly wait, although since I have never cruised before, I really have no idea what is in store for me.

Is anyone on this thread taking orders for door signs for the 10/16/04 cruise? If you are, please let me know so that I can place my order.

I can't believe how fast the year is going so far. It seems like October 16th will never get here, but I know it will be here soon as summers always go by so fast.

It will be nice to meet you all on the cruise.

Hi tiggerfantoo,
My DH just gave me the okay to buy whatever repo cruise merchandise I thought necessary...I will be purchasing Verandah Man's magnetic door sign, T-shirts, and the flip-flops. I cannot wait !!! But back to our Oct cruise...I finally told my mom we're taking her with us...I'd bought the plane tickets, thought it was about time...that was a couple weeks ago, she has already bought great clothes...I'll be schlepping around in 4 year old capris, and she'll look great !!! Oh well, my own fault, I'm lazy and cheap. Talk to you all later, we only have about 160 days to go.

Not sure what you mean by "taking orders for door signs".

I made one for our 10/16/04 cruise. However, I may change it before we go. Here's a link to My Cabin Door Sign (http://community.webshots.com/s/image1/6/87/16/131868716DyKyGc_ph.jpg) I wish it hadn't turned out so big. It doesn't fit in the window.

Zandy 595, Verandah Man has graciously offered to make personalized door signs for people who are taking the Ca - FL cruise in August 2005. The door signs are 8 1/2" by 11" and are magnetized to stick to the stateroom doors. If you want to see the door sign, you can go into the "August 20, 2005 Repositioning/Transitional CA - FLA" link. When you go into the link, go to page one. The first posting is by Grumbo, and has a link titled "Personalized 8 1/2" x 11" door magnets". That will show you the nice door sign that Verandah Man designed.

I was hoping that someone on this site had designed a door sign that we could purchase for the cruise. I am not too creative, and anything that I make would probably look like something a baby monkey created - no, I take that back. The baby monkey would do a better job than I would. :-)

Hellooooooooooooo Everyone:

I haven't posted lately so I wanted to say "Hey, How are you, What's going on, How is it hanging , and of course, What's up?"

To all the new people, I would like to welcome you on board. We are going to have a great cruise. There are a couple people on the board that you need to steer clear of due to insaniety reasons, but if you want to email me, I will be happy to give names and social security numbers. I am one of the sanest people. The voices I am hearing will be gone as soon as I sell them on ebay.

Things are great. Can you believe we are getting close to double digits? I am getting excited. WE booked the romance package. I love having all the reservations made in advance. We even made "high tea" reservations. I don't really like tea and I am not sure I can sip tea with my pinky in the air but I am gonna do my best to pretend like I belong.

We are thinking about chartering a private boat from this guy in St John. He takes you to a private area for snorkeling and sunbathing. I thought it would be like Gilligan's Island and I could be Ginger. Okay, okay, maybe an older, fatter Mary Ann, but can't we dream here? HUH?

That's all for now. WElcome to everyone new. Many hugs to the old ones.

Thanks. Yes, I plan on having a sign on my cabin door for our 10/16 cruise. I might change it before then, not sure if I want our last name on it. And then I also have to remember to pack it. I'll be making 3 more signs for family members in other cabins.

I'd be more than happy to make others if anyone would like to reimburse me for expenses (shipping, magnetic paper, ink). How much is Verandah Man charging for his?

wildernessgirl
05-23-2004, 03:31 AM
Sandy, GREAT sign!!! If the offer still stands, we would gladly pay you for a great door sign too! Just let me know how much and the exact info you need for the sign. You are just so talented!!!

tiggerfantoo
05-23-2004, 08:59 AM
Zandy595, Verandah Man charged $5.00 for the sign, including mailing in a large envelope. He wrote "Please do not bend" on the front and back of the envelope. Unfortunately, I have a small post office box and they bent it when they shoved it into the post office box. The magnetic paper is thin, though, so I was able to straighten it out by putting a few heavy books onto it. It was well worth the $5 to buy it. What a lovely souvenir!

Someone on the other thread mentioned that they did not want their last name on the door sign. They were afraid that other people might have charges billed to their room since people would have their last name and room number.

I have never cruised before, but I thought you could only charge things to your room if you had your KTTW card with you.

Anyway, please let me know if you are going to take orders for these signs. I would like to order 5 signs if you are going to take orders.

Here is the link for the website that Verandah Man ordered the magnetic paper from.

I haven't actually tried printing a sign out on magnetic paper yet. The one I made was printed on plain paper. I need to get a package of magnetic paper and print my sign out to make sure my printer does a good job. If it works well (I have no reason to think that it won't) I'll take orders for the 10/16/04 cruise.

$5 seems like a reasonable price. Is Verandah Man using the same layout for all the signs and just changing the names?

Denine

Today is the Airforce Academy's graduation. The Thunderbirds always fly for it. I am directly right across from the statium with the mountains as a back drop. It was so cool watching them practice today. They flew right towards us then right over the top of the building.

Hello everyone....

That's very nice of you, Sandy, to make all the signs. And yes, Denine, it really does make it seem closer. In fact, it is closer....I now have only 10 pay days until the cruise! Uh oh. Any bites on the house yet? I hope it's already sold. Good luck.

My husband left for Las Vegas this morning for his Marine Corp reunion. He was like a little kid, he was so excited. He'll be home on Monday. I hope he has a great time.

Well, Peg, have you hung up your princess dress and tiarra and come back to reality yet? My son and his fiance aren't getting married until October of 2005. My youngest grandson, Andrew, is going to be the ring bearer and he will be pushed down the aisle on a ride-on toy fire truck. (Sound familiar?) My son belongs to our local fire department. That should be interesting. Might have to crazy glue him to the seat.

Anyway, just wanted to check in and say hello. I'll talk to you all later.

Denise, we are going that Thursday too! We went last year and it was sooooooo much fun! Make sure Makayla wears her Halloween costume. As for Joe, I am sure he is like my husband and won't need a scary Halloween mask!

Just Joking honey if you are reading this. Can I please have the checkbook?

I'll be watching over my shoulder so don't try to pull anything funny. I don't know what Joe will be going as now that I've hidden his tiarra and tutu.

Can you believe that 33 days from now we will be in the double digits! :Pinkbounc It's coming fast!

Hi,

I Haven't checked in here for a while. For whoever was keeping the role call list here's ours.

ME - Libby
DH - Kevin
dd - Amy (5)
dd - Christy (3)

You'll know us by our strange Aussie accents. We're in room 2116.

We are also going to MNSSHP on the Thurs night before the cruise. Can't wait - this is a first for us and extra special since Halloween isn't really celebrated in Australia.

I got permission from Grumbo to use this picture for door signs. I wanted to add it to the album, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Okay...Denine suggested a post more so I have some questions.

Not having been on a disney cruise are there any little hints I should know, anything we shouldn't miss.

What off shore excursions do you recommend - we have been to all ports except Castaway Cay before?

I have read all the posts over the last few months but can't remember if a DIS meet has been organised yet or not.

Umm...maybe a stupid question but I wonder what the point of the door signs is?

Libby

Libby, I have not been on a Disney cruise before, either. I think that the door signs are just a way of letting everyone know that you are part of the DIS "family". It will also help my family members (nine of my family members are going) find my stateroom easier since my name will be on the door.

My brother will be on deck two, also. If he hears your "Aussie" accent, he may stop and start a conversation with you and your family. He took a three month vacation in Australia several years ago, and toured by bicycle. He really enjoyed your country and still speaks to this day about his trip. I can only remember one negative incident ~ he was attacked by some birds (magpies?) while riding on his bike.

My DS was over with my DGD the other day and mentioned that the cruise is only four and a half months away. It is getting so close!!! I've got to get to the back and get a stack of $2 bills for room service tips. I plan on using room service every day! The only drawback is I will get used to being treated like royalty, and then reality will set in when I return home. Oh, well . . .

Ok I have a few questions? And I thought who are the best people to ask, and it's you guys.

1. Has anyone else booked their own air fare? We booked thru TA and think the fare is a little high 1390 for 4 I think we can do better. My question is can any one tell me how to get from air port to hotel. I would like to fly in the night before I have been having nightmares about missing the boat if we were delayed.I thought about stayin at the Raddison the night before.

2. Is there any thing I should ask when booking airfare?

Thanks Peg

Hi Peg:

We paid a little over $1000 for airfare from CAlifornia to Florida for four people. If you are coming from PA, I would think you could find a better deal. We went through Continental and just kept checking the fares online.

There is a new hotel called Ron Jon's that is supposed to be nice. We are staying there this time. WE always rent a car and then return it in the morning. We did get the directions off dave's site and we also stopped at Win Dixie for our alcohol products!

I hope everyone is well. We are heading to the Wild Animal Park today to look at my husband's relatives roaming the land in thier natural habitat.

Hi Gloria,

Thanks for explaining the signs - I "get it" now. I'll see if I can work out how to make one. I'm really looking forward to meeting some fellow DIS members. This is my 4th disney trip using the boards and we've always lime greened our strollers and bags yet still never met anyone.
With regards to the Aussie accents we do have a tendency to talk a bit fast so please don't hestitate to let us know you can't understand us. And yes, those magpies can be a pest. I always walk in parks with my dogs so avoid these incidents (they attack when they are protecting their nests).

We are planning on driving in October. I hope it works out. If it doesn't, I will be the bald lady in a striped lime green shirt. DD will be the one with duct tape on her mouth.

I would check a site like Orbitz to get an idea of different airfares, but we usually just book directly through Continental's web site. There are no cheap flights from Cleveland and CA is the only one from CLE to MCO with a nonstop flight.

Libby: Do not miss an evening at Palo (excellent) or brunch at Palo (also excellent). Try to do at least one spa treatment to treat yourself. I usually get a facial, but I really want to try the reflexology. We have not done any of the shore excursions but have found St. Maartin to be a great place to by jewelry, much better than St. Thomas.

Poor me. Anyway, I have to kill some time this morning so I'm talking to you guys. DH worked last night so he's already in bed. I have to leave to go to a baby shower this morning that was suppose to be next week around a very nice inground pool but is now going to held in a waiting room at a hospital for high risk pregnancies. Poor thing developed toxemia and is in the hospital for the duration of her pregnancy. She is not due until July 30th but they are hoping to at least make another week before they have to take the baby. This is her first baby and she has nothing so the wonderful nurses at the hospital said that they can hold the baby shower there. Hopefully it'll cheer up the Mom-to-be.
Her name is Mazie....please say a prayer for her and Nicholas (the baby). Hopefully his little lungs will be developed and he wont need help with his breathing.

Well, I guess if I look I could really find something to do before I leave so I guess I'll sign off. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Hi ! I read the thread every once in a while but have not posted on the thread before. After NUMEROUS trips to DisneyWorld we went on our first cruise this past November (3 day to see if we would like it) and of course we loved it and are booked on the October 16 cruise as well (me -Deb, the mom...my adult daughter Rachel and my son George age 12 ...he is also autistic and I think Wide Awkae posted that she has a 13 year old autistic son who will be sailing...I am also bringing My father and his wife who never go anywhere and are very excited to be coming---I think they are more excited than we are...I was shocked--I thought I would have to talk them into coming! I guess you never know!
Anyway, it looks like we'll be in good company:wave2: :wave2:

Debbart,
WELCOME !!! That will be great to have another autism parent on board. I think they've finally decided that genetics does have something to do with it...surprise, surprise...didn't they think it was strange that the parents were all pretty much alike ?

To the newbies in 6590...we had that cabin last year...it is one of those adjacent to the white spaces on the ship diagram...means your steamer trunk is flush with the wall, not indented like the other cabins...really cuts down on the space between bed and trunk...if you can switch your room without paying extra you may want to think about it. Other than that it was great, close to the laundry.

Good news about the baby !!! My DS was 11'4'' so can't imagine taking home a tiny one...I was terrified enough with mine !!!

Vodka is fine...it's odorless and if the sleeping pills are for you I'd say go for it. As moms we learn to multi-task very quickly so I do believe your husband will be just fine as he feeds crackers to the baby with one hand, wipes the drool off your chin with the other, and drives the car with his knees. Just make sure you take enough of the pills. There's nothing worse than be awaken by the sobbing of a grown man. I know it annoys the heck out of me.

Nicholas is still doing fine but they are still having problems getting the Mom's blood pressure under control. She finally got to see him though, so that's good.

We are also diet coke drinkers so I am also happy about the free soda. There's $70.00 we can use for something else! :)

Welcome Batchler, hope to meet you on board (and everyone else) too!

How was the baptism, Denine? We had an absolutely perfect day (weather wise) for ours. It was in the 70's and no humidity. It was a really nice party. Andrew was very good and cooperated. Got a little miffed when they sprinkled his head but other than that he was a good baby. He is so darn cute.

My girlfriend's little itty bitty grandbaby went home from the hospital yesterday. Him and Mom are doing great. I can't wait to meet him. I wouldn't know what the heck to do with a 4lb baby. My kids were all big, fat, roly polies. Remember Weebles? ("Weebles wobble but they don't fall down") Well..that could have described any one of my kids.

Sitting here bored. I always think the summer will be great, but I don't really like being off work. I'm teaching summer school, but for me that means I drive to people's houses two days a week and pick up their work. Our last day is Friday. We'll be in Yellowstone in four weeks, and I should be getting ready for that...but that is complicated so have been avoiding that chore. My mother told me the happy news that she has a bridge game booked for the 14th, the day before we leave...she is moving to Wisconsin as of tomorrow, I had visions of help in the last minute getting ready...not going to happen...I'd be willing to bet the cruise fare that every day from the time she arrives till the 15th is booked up solid...she just won't tell me all at once. Can all of you feel the mother-daughter tension ? DH insisted that we book the REAS package, anyone else have their times yet ? Three and a half months to go, I can't stand it !!! Hello Everyone.

We are getting close to double digits. I am doing the double digit dance which looks very much like the hokey pokey.

Well, my son has been out of school a total of 3 days now. After boogie boarding at the beach for 4 hours yesterday , he sits down at the kitchen table and says to me ,

"MOM, there is nothing to do!"

I want to reassure you those words will not be coming out of his mouth again this summer because if they do, he will either be given away to the state...they have to take him, right......or he will be put on a very tiny boat in the middle of the Pacific ocean and left to find his way home.......no Disney trip for him.

Some of my husband's relatives are staying with us over the 4th. I am thinking of moving and not leaving a forwarding address when they go out for pizza and beer. Is that really so wrong?

I promise to post more since we are getting close to double digits! You will all know me in the terminal, I'll be the one with very little hair!!! (from me pulling it out of course!!!) Happy Fourth of July everyone!

Not doing too much here. Hoping to see the fireworks tonight if it doesn't get rained out!

Hi Everyone! Just booked our first disney cruise for Oct. 16th. I've been wanting to do this for years! My husband and I have two kids, DD 10 years old and DS 8 years old. We are soooo excited! Disneyworld has always been our favorite but we have always wanted to do this. DH is coming home on leave from Iraq for the cruise which makes it extra special for us too. We are finally going to have a honeymoon after 11 busy years!

Looks like you have all been corresponding for a while. Hope you don't mind if I butt in.:sunny:
