View Full Version : adding on in a different property
If you have added on points in a different property, have you found it confusing to keep track of the points and the preferred reservation times? We own at OKW and are considering a VWL add-on. We would like to bank in order to use 2 years' worth of OKW points one year, and 2 years' worth of VWL the next. This would allow us to use the 11-month reservation window at each property. Will member services allow you to bank your points from one property while using points from the other?
I'm confused just trying to ask this question!

Keeping track of two properties shouldn't be too difficult. You can do it like DVC with each contract run as a seperate account (like your checking & savings). You can bank and borrow as much as you like as long as you stay within the set deadlines.
2001 -- 100 OKW Points
100 VWL Points
2002 -- 100 OKW Points
100 VWL Points
In 2001, you bank your 100 VWL Points. You use your 2001 OKW points and borrow your 2002 OKW points for your 2001 vacation.
In 2002, you use the 100 VWL points you banked plus the 2002 allotment. You have no OKW points this year. You start the process over in 2003.
I think that scenario works okay.

It's a wonderful and easy program to use to keep track of your points. It gives you the ability to put in different contracts and tells you when the banking deadlines are. It's great, you'l love it.:)

Check out that program from the link posted by Minnietta. I use it and it is very handy.
I have the situation that you mentioned. I own at OKW and just closed on an add-on at VWL. I have the same use year for both and that makes it easier, at least in my mind. DVC will try to make your add-on the same use year as your OKW unless it is sold out.
One nice thing to remember on banking is that the number of points you can bank is based on the total and not just on each individual contract. For example, I added 70 points at VWL. When it closed I was near the 50% banking window. I have 260 points at OKW so the 70 gave me a total of 330 points. This means that at the 50% banking window I can bank up to 165 points in any combination. I didn't have many OKW points banked so I banked 100% of the 70 from VWL at the 50% banking window based on my use year. Hope this makes sense.
You can specify to MS how you want to use or bank your points. I've always double checked by keeping up with what I think is left over from each contract and checked that against what MS says I've got left in each. That way I know that what I've allocated in ressies and banked from each is what I was expecting.
Thanks for your help with this question. Hopefully we'll be adding on soon!

We have 2 OKW contracts and 1 BWV contract..all the same use year. very easy to keep track of. OKW is our home resort, we plan to bank/borrow there so we can take a vacation there every other year.
After each reservation we make, I always send an email to MS asking them to confirm if my understanding of what I have remaining for points, in which use years is correct...so far, we have always been in sync.
MS is a great resource to help you manage your points.
