I've actually been doing well for the last week and I'm so afraid if we bring a cake into the house I'll just blow it completely! I would really like to get a small chocolate cake (Meijer sells Bill Knapp's Chocolate Cake, if anyone's familiar with those!), and I'm thinking if I have a small piece and then can either get everyone else to eat it and/or take some home then I'd be okay.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to approach this?

Can you just go out to dinner and get a small piece of cake with dinner that you could share with everyone? No leftovers that way. :)

It sounds like you will be having people over, so your idea should work, Amy. The key is NO LEFTOVERS!! If you can't send the leftovers home with someone, I would just toss it out. If it's not around, you won't be tempted!!

Have a wonderful birthday!!:D

Thanks, guys! I think we'll do the cake thing, I'll just make sure there are NO leftovers! ;)

I think going out for a slice of cake would be best ... leftovers are sooo tempting... :( Maybe you could find a recipe for a cake and swap in low cal ingredients ...

I hope you have a great birthday whatever you decide :)

Yes, I agree! Just send the "extra" home with your guests. Pack it up right after you serve it. If they say no thanks, then toss it into the garbage right away while you are still full from dinner. Think of it as "posion" and the "toss" will be a lot easier.

You can't eat what isn't there and I've never been tempted to eat stuff out of the garbage :teeth: no matter how bad those cravings get!

Good luck! You can do it! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, too!

Not to be rude, but if you don't want to have a cake than your DH should not want you to REALLY have one. Subtle sabotage of a diet is tough to deal with. Why can't you just serve a lo-cal or low carb desert instead.

kidzmom, I guess I didn't phrase it right. He was going to surprise me with a cake, but specifically *didn't* want to sabotage me, so he asked me what I wanted. We kicked around the idea of just getting sherbet or something, but decided to go with the traditional cake and just make sure none was left to tempt me.

So he was (and is) actually *very* supportive. :)

Happy Birthday!

Im a day late and a dollar short but I was going to suggest cupcakes, one for everyone, that way there would no leftovers and you couldnt be tempted to eat more than a portion size :)

HI my Birthday was Saturday... I was running around withe the kids all morning and when I got home Hubby had a cake and ice cream waiting!!!!!AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! what to do? The funny thing is he's learning..... we are HS sweethearts so Ive know my hubby a while and we have had small arguements in the past about forgetting my Bday and how I love small surprises. Well surprise!!!!!!He really did surprise me, how could I NOT have a piece of cake that he went out especailly to buy for me? He bought the candles and had them lit as he sung HB as I walked int he door! lol. I didnt know he was capable of doing all that.... believe me thats alot for him to do ( I have labeled him INSENITIVE) for the past 13 years. SO I had the cake enjoyed it very much and its inthe past now. Enjoy yorself. We all know that the way of life we have chose will be life changing but remember we are allowed to have fun a do the unforbidden once in a while. However I do agree witht he left over theory.
O yea Happy birthday:bounce:
