Hooray!

We're still in 7120, which is what we wanted.

I ordered a great basket for DS from Shirley and am thinking of one for my Mom's birthday, too.

Are we there yet???

We are a family of 4 (I'm not entirely familiar with then nomenclature - me, one DW, one each DD and DS), going on the eastern on the 24th of January, 2nd cruise on Disney for all.

We, rather unexpectedly, received upgrade from Cat 8 to % (deck 7, same as before), and are really looking forward to the trip now that it's cold again (southern Ontario high -12 Celcius today).

Will watch for the green of the board, but will now have to find something green for us to carry!

Good trips to all - hope the weather holds for us.

Cheers.

Richard and family.

Cruisin' Krause's - Welcome aboard. We too are on deck 7 and received and upgrade from cat 8 to cat 5. How old are your children? There are a group of boys and girls that are emailing each other to get aquainted before meeting on the ship.

Happy Sailing!!!!!!!

DBMagic - our kids are 5 and 3 - both looking forward to kids' activities - daughter remembers almost everything from last time - Pluto party and pajama parties.

Still a little too young to be corresponding via e-mail - thanks for the offer.

See you all there.

Maria - Glad Olivia is feeling better! Great news!

Well, the wind chill temperature in NJ today is 3 degrees. I officially don't care how we get to St. Thomas. Can I go now and just meet y'all there? :)

mariamard: glad to hear Olivia is doing better. Shirley's website is
www.theperfectgift.cc I spoke to her over the weekend, she is so nice. She is supposed to call me this week with gift basket ideas for the girls. I think I'll have her do one for the DH as well.

Queen Trident - I know how you feel about the weather. We are near zero with wind chill factors below zero. I don't care if I have to swim from the ship to the island at this point.

It seems my countdown clock was just in the 60's, and now we are in the teen's, I'm starting to panic.

Hey Jamie!
Would you mind letting us know what Shirley suggests? I talked to someone there this a.m. and would like some more ideas/input, especially for DD! That pre-teen can sometimes be a little tricky to please:D

I'm so excited. Shirley is going to make DH a Beers Around the World basket and for the boys a basket with stuffed mickeys, candy, toys, glow in the dark necklaces and bubbles for the sail away. She is great to work with! I can't wait to see them!

I've decided no basket but going fishing instead!

I'll let her pick up stuff when we go shopping in Orlando on the 23rd!

Today it looks real nice outstide but with the wind chill it's

-25 deg celcius! I just know it's COLD!

Ok gals, so we are having a swimming marathon to get to St. Thomas!LOL Last one to shore has to buy the drinks!

Hoping we get +25 celcius for our trip! (translation 80 degs plus!)

Is it January 23rd Yet!?!

minniesota - I just got off the phone with Shirley's niece, and she is doing a pre-teen basket for Sarah with Soda, Snacks, a beach towel and sunglasses. I think this will make her happy, Gracie is getting the sand toys, with swim goggles and swim fins and also a towel like her sister. I too buzzboymoms lead and ordered DH the beers around the world basket.

Hey all - I just have to share....DS came home last night showing me all the Disney cuise pictures he drew in school. I was sitting here today looking at them and realized that he has this squiggly line that is supposed to be the slide going into the pool. The more I look at the detail, the more I just get so excited. Anyway, thanks for letting me share. Karen

It's way to cold here in NVA!!!! My sister leaves tomorrow for her family's first trip to WDW (couldn't get her to cruise instead) I'm jealous she'll be warm!

disneylover5 I work in Reston and am insufferable to my co-workers they took off for Christmas but I'm now reminding them no meetings for me after the 22nd!

Hilary is e-mailing the girls she and Erica can't wait to have new friends.

Now I REALLY need to think about clothes my list is up to 7 pairs of shoes DH is not amused :hyper:

We will be the family with WAY too much luggage

jensensva,

That is so funny about work!! I loved working during Christmas...NO ONE was there....just me and my secretary!! We had a wonderful time. I already have turned down three meetings too as "I will be out of town". It is wonderful.
I work for Corporate Express and I am in Reston a lot. I spend time in the Oracle Buildings. Where do you work...I still would love to have coffee sometime....maybe even bring the girls!

scratch, I have done that a lot...mixing up the Wonder and Magic. Old age I guess.....I did not do the pillowcases yet....but I am going to do something....

Anyone decide if they want to send their husband or son golfing with DH DS14, DS14?

DS14 and DS15 will be going fishing at Castaway Cay as well...anyone doing that?

When I woke up DS14 yesterday....5:30am (high school starts early around here) he said "Can we go on the cruise today?" My feelings exactly...It is so COLD!!

Lisa - It looks like I and DD will be joining your son's fishing at CC!

Everytime Tanya sees the "Guy with the Fish", she asks where did he catch that, I want to try to catch that! So I just booked it yesterday! I'll keep on eye on them so that they don't get pulled over by the sharks!

I went last night to check out Disney Pillowcases but nothing that really caught my eye. Still have a few days left!

I still have not decided on what to wear for Formal Night! I guess I better hurry up about that decision!

I may be fishing too...have not decided. There is a good thread on this...did you see it about sharks???

For formal night, there are some very cute dresses on Talbots.com. Not too $$$$$$$...I ordered a 10 and it came yesterday...but think I need a 12...I hope the store has it. I guess I can re-order as it only took a few days to come.

ok girls, I know we are all pretty set on formal and semi formal night, I figure I can pick up something on St Maarten for the girls for tropical night, and I have floral capris I can wear that night, but what about dinner for all the rest? Are you going with summery clothing or darker colors? This is my last decision. I have everyones bathing suits and casual wear on the bed, but need to know about dinner the rest of the time.

jensenva - don't worry about having too much luggage, I think almost every one of us on this board will pack too much. Last time we cruised and you had to put your luggage in the hall on the last night, everyone around us seemed to be putting out two bags, my mom and I had eight. She said we were embarrassing. Oh well, I'd rather be prepared. I keep reminding dh he won't be getting it to the statroom, so he doesn't need to worry about it.

Dinner for us the other nights will be colorful casual...capri's and sweaters....shorts and bathing suits the rest of the time.

We are one of those families that will have 2 suitcases for all 5 of us....although now that the girls (DD10 and DD7) are getting bigger their clothes are starting to take up more room and they want to bring more......

BuzzBoyMom
01-08-2004, 08:45 AM
disneylover5 - 2 suitcases for 5 - WOW! My DH and I would at least need 1 each and then the boys.... I'm hoping for 3 and then carry ons. I'm so stressed about the packing issue. But I'll keep thinking happy and sunny thoughts.

Brrrr it is so cold outside!

minniesota
01-08-2004, 09:00 AM
Capris and sweaters for the girls and khakis and polos for the guys! Dh is still trying to decide whether to rent a tux for formal, semi and Palo (he might as well get 3 nights out of it). He rarely dresses up so this would be a change. In fact, he doesn't own a suit - just a sportcoat. DD is pushing for the tux! I don't really care, just get me out of this cold!!!

Any plans for a Hyatt meet? We'll be getting in about 8 and will probably grab dinner. Let us know if anyone is doing anything Fri. night. For those of you at the Hyatt - how are you getting to the port and what time are you going?

My poor DS has been home all week with some intestinal thing. He missed the return to school Mon. and Tues. I sent him yesterday but he's back home today. Just can't seem to kick it. I've done enough laundry to last me all month! I keep telling my family to catch all their germs now so we're all healthy Jan. 24!

dancermom
01-08-2004, 09:08 AM
minniesota - If my memory is correct I think we were going to try for 9:00 by the pool for a night cap. Although if the weather is supposed to be cool and the pool is outside, we will need to re-think that. We are renting a car on Friday, so we decided to keep it and just drive to the port. We are usually up early so we thought we could leave when we wanted.

I know about the illness thing, both girls were sick for days over Christmas break, and I told them to get it over with before the end of January. Hope you DS is feeling better soon.

Glad to hear about the planned dress for everyone. I don't know why I stress about these things, on our last cruise the only way Gracie was going to dinner was in her pajama's. I let her, and it was probably her best dinner since she was so comfortable.

At this point, to get out of this cold, I'd wear my pajamas to dinner.

Hiya gang! Taking a few minutes near the end of the work day to check in! DW is getting into the pack/organize mode in a big way -- that means lots of list floating around my house now!

Just got done speaking with Shirley and her staff and Perfect Gift - ordered a basked for DS (as a secret one for DW). As everyone always seems to say -- what a pleasure to work with. I am looking forward to seeing her work when we step onboard!

And to think that it's almost at the 2 week mark!

The colder it gets here - the thoughts of the open ocean and tropic ports seem to become even warmer.

How's everyone making out with car/transfer ressies? Have you all of you fellow Radisson folks called in about the shuttle yet? Don't forget!

The only thing that is keeping me going through this cold is knowing that we are leaving in 13 days. They are expecting the temp to get to 6 degrees tonight. I can't imagine a 25 BELOW!!! DH comes home from sunny warm California tonight where he has been for the past cold week. If he even opens his mouth once about how cold he is, I'm sure I'll have to go spend some more money just to teach him a lesson!!:happy1:

Anyway, just think, we'll all be sitting on a sunny deck having a drink real soon!!! Hang in there Chicago folks!

Okay - just for fun...
I put out a large jar on my desk and called it "Karen's Cruise Drink Fund...feel free to donate to the cause...restoral of Karen's sanity". Well it has now become a game for people to try to throw pennies into the jar. Maybe by the time we leave for the cruise, I'll have collected some pretty good drink money!!

The funny part was when one guy bet another guy $10 that he couldn't get a penny in from a certain spot. So...it was a win win situation. I got lots of his pennies and YEP - he got $10 from the other guy.

Today's the first day in a long time that I'm glad it's not January 23. DD has the flu. Fever, vomiting--the works. The doc says she'll be fine in a few days. I'm just glad that if she was going to get it, it's now and not 2 weeks from now. Now, I just have to keep DH and myself healthy!

Scratch - were you able to control yourself? Or did you just go ahead and laugh in your bosses face?????

I finally started packing or laying out DDs' clothes maybe we will only have 3 suitcases if I can control the need for shoes. DDs' got dress for formal night now Hilary just needs shoes. I think for me and the girls dinner attire will be mostly sundress and skirts we have late seating so more grown ups. I was going to borrow a dress for formal night, I really never wear formal stuff, but my Mom talked me into "treating" myself to a nice dress so DH said we would go out tomorrow and find one- what a guy.

DisneyLover5 I'm just off Sunrise Valley just around the corner from most of the Oracle buildings coffee would be fun.

We are also now at the Hyatt we get in around 6pm and then we are taking the DCL bus to the port planning to take the first one so we can get there and be near the front of the line.

I booked all of our Excursions today and we got everything we asked for.
St. Maarten - all 10 of us are doing Golden Eagle Catamaran 1pm

St John/St Thomas - DH, DS14, DS14 are golfing at Mahogany Run (someone can still make a foursome)

St John/St Thomas - 3 adults, DS15, DD10, DD7, DS7 are doing 5 star St John Snorkle Beach adventure.

Castaway Cay - Me, DS15, DS14, DS14 Castaway Cay Bottom Fishing. This was in mailing that came from Disney and I read about it on the boards (search for fishing). It sounds wonderful Trident Queen....if you call Disney ask for C-02. It is 3 - 3.5 hours Ages 6 and over. It is $110. They provide the tackle and bait...
Sounds fun... I would not be going but they required one of our adults to go with the teenagers....so I was elected.

you should have received something about excursions from your TA, unless you have a TA like mine, then forget about it!LOL

I read about here on the boards! "The Guy with the Fish" raved about it. DD likes to fish and I've always wanted to try deep sea fishing. I emailed DCL Guest Services and booked thru them.

If Lisa booked today, then that means that there are only two spaces available. We go at 9:15 a.m. and then still have the afternoon to enjoy the beach.

This time in two weeks we will be heading for formal night!

I just returned my "formal" dress to Talbot's...back to square one.

I have shopped all day and I need to go to bed! I am exhausted. We have a little house at the shore (3 hours away) and both DH and I think our bathing suits are there...great planning. I was able to get a suit today and may get a second.....no one had men's bathing suits at the mall ... I went to two different very large shopping centers.

DS14 tried on his summer clothes (under great protest) and nothing fits except his new suit (he had a date for homecoming). "Go to the Mall with me" I said...."I would sooner die" he said. He has no shorts, no bathing suit, no Khakis, I think he had gained 30 pounds in 3 months...I can not believe how fast boys grow....I think he is over 6 feet tall.

Oh well, DD10 and DD7 will look really cute. Such is life

Thank goodness, Sarah and my formal dresses are at the taylor, for alterations, Gracie's was delivered and fits, and we now all have shoes to go with them. Of course, Sarah doesn't fit in anything from the summer and the only store near us with summer clothes out was Limited Too, so I left half my paycheck there to outfit her. Luckily Gracie doesn't grow, so she still fits in everything. She has packed 5 bathing suits, so I don't think she needs anything else anyway. I should be fine if I pack that and her pajama's.

The only thing I can't find anywhere here is zinc oxide for my nose. We can always stop on our way to the port, I'm sure someone in Florida will carry it.

We are on our 7th day of sub zero temperatures, with snow expected for tomorrow. God sure knows how to get us ready for the tropics.

Hi all. I rarely post over the weekend - too much to do to get to a computer.

I too would like to hear about formal attire. I planned on a black floor length dress (I wouldn't consider it a gown at all!) with great sequins/sparkles on it. I'm still waffling for semi-formal. I've gained too much wait to fit into my little black cocktail dress. But that's okay. I'm at that stage now where I THINK I have everything but I have that terrible feeling like I'm forgetting stuff. I keep going over my lists and looking at my BIG piles.

I think we are going for 3 luggage bags that stack inside of each other.

Is anyone else having trouble figuring out if they have "enough" lotions and stuff. Usually when we go away on week vacations to the beach or some tropical spot, I don't worry cause I can always pick up something at a drug store. But I dont' want to spend my island days searching for a drug store for extra sun tan lotion. Am I being too worried?

11 days !!!!!

Scratch - I like buzzboy mom will be wearing a floor length dress. I didn't want to look like a bridesmaid or going to the prom. I love the way you embarassed DD, Sarah thinks I try to embarass her (of couse she's right).

buzzboymom - I'm bringing a new large size sunscreen for the girls, and one for me. DH doesn't burn so he's fine. I want to try tho find a mist on one for the parts in the girls hair after they've had it braided. Don't worry about finding a store, I'm sure one of us will have enough supply and will be more then happy to share with a fellow dis'er.

I'm having a very hard time keeping my mind on work, I need to be doing important things like making lists and packing!!!!!!

Lotions - I'm sure between all of us we could probably supply the whole ship! That's one thing that I usually overpack! The Sun is Stronger! DD who usually does not burn, found out the hard way! And that was just a few hours on CC!

Well it's snowing here! At least the temps are warmer! I don't know which is worse! The cold or snow!LOL

Scratch - I sent you a PM!

As far as formal goes, I'm wearing something long but it's those flowing pants that look like a skirt! Black and silver.

I'm having a hard time finding sunscreen. I have some stuff left over from the summer but probably not enough. My dermatologist told me to only use products that contain avobenzone, zinc oxide or parsol 1729. It's sometimes hard to find even in the summer months! Banana Boat Kids has products with zinc oxide and spray-ons with avobenzone but none of my discount stores have any BB products right now. Guess I'll keep checking.

Does anyone know if they do hair wraps on board? Allie doesn't think she wants to do the braiding but would like a hair wrap. Anyone?

If the kids don't have pillow cases or you don't have door decorations the world won't come to an end. If you only bring your bathing suit, dinner will still go on. I have adopted this attitude, because I have about 4 weeks of work to accomplish between now and next Thursday, will probably have to sleep at work for the next week, so whatever I don't have done won't be happening.

For door decorations, I was thinking of printing a picture of DD in her tinkerbell costume. She could recognize that easily.

But, do you think there are any safety concerns with that? I've heard a lot about not posting your kid's picture/name on the INternet. Do you think it'd be okay to put on our door.

She also recognizes her name, but I love the picture...

Lisa - lots of pixie dust headed your way! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Also, here's a genie for you - He'll grant you an unlimited amount of wishes! :genie: Well, maybe not, but it's the thought that counts!

I'll probably not be posting as much in the next few days - I have TONS of work to do. I have to get my quarterly newsletter done before I leave and I've been procrastinating for the last week. Now, it's crunch time! Who am I kidding? I'll still be here. Yesterday was procrastinator's New Year's Day - I celebrated long and hard. ;)

Re: Formalwear - Still not sure what I'm doing. A fellow DISer was nice enough to send me a gown, but it doesn't really fit right. Tad too tight and a little too long. There is a place by me that sells pseudo-designer dresses for $69, so when I get paid I may go over there to see if they have anything in Plus/Petites. If not, I'll probably wear one of my suits from work. Boring, but better than not going at all, right?

We'll have plenty of immodium and pepto and tums for anyone that needs it. DH lives on the stuff because of his allergies. I went to Costco and got the 72 pack of Immodium for the cruise. So, stop by our cabin if you need some!

One big thing we still need to do is figure out what we're doing with the dog. I figured my in-laws would take him (they take everyone else's dog), but they are now balking. I'd hate to put him in a kennel, but having a pet sitter would cost us more than $500. That's my big trip stress right now. Any ideas?

See you soon!

Sending pixie dust to anyone and everyone who needs it.

*******************************************

Jenn - 72 packs of Imodium...I can't picture it! Too funny!

If there is anything I can help with - I'm putting out an offer....making T shirts for a child that you don't have time, picking up some extra meds, etc. I even have some extra formals and semi-formals if we wear the same size! Famous last words, but I think I have things pretty much under contol. I'm sure I'll be going into panic mode about 2-3 days out, but catch me now and I'll be happy to offer my assistance/time. And if I can be of assistance when we get on the cruise (need sunscreed, meds, etc) please feel free to contact our stateroom 6050! I'm serious about the offer.

My biggest stress is trying to figure out how to fit what Ive laid out into minimum number of suitcases.

I can also offer up formal, semi-formal wear. Anyone who takes a 2 or a 4 let me know, I can ship it to you or send pictures. I also have extra formal wear for the little ones. If anyone needs something in a girls size 8 or 10, or a 2T let me know and I will be more then happy to get it to you.

Scratch - I need to get defuzzed too. Everything has been in hiding since September. I'm also getting a pedicure this weekend since my toes will be busting out soon.

Okay, back to work!

One more thing, I have plenty of Children's Tylenol, Junior Strength Tylenol, Adult Tylenol and almost every form of sinus medine anyone could need packed, and since Gracie is the band aid queen, I have multiple character band aids packed, so if anyone gets on board and finds out they need some of this and don't have it, just stop by 8080. With Gracie and her band aid issues, I always have enough on hand to wallpaper the ship if I need to.

I cannot believe we are here at the single digit dance! Amazing -- it seemed so far away and now it's almost here!

I am really busy at work this week -- we have a major weekend this weekend. And my whole family has been sick. We all have bad colds and it turned into an ear infection for DS and a sinus infection for me. DH has stayed with the cold. My Mom is fine, thank heavens! DS & I are both on antibiotics, so we should be fine. No vomiting, tho, which is good!!!

I think I might have my dress for formal night. My Mom is just wearing a suit. Most of my old dresses don't really fit, but I haven't found anything online that really struck me as beautiful and I don't have time to go shopping... I might do a few more searches, though.

I still cannot believe we are almost there! It's snowing here in NJ and brutally cold. I am ready for high 70s....

Hello-

I want to apoligize for ignoring people who have e-mailed or sent messages to me. This is the first time I have looked at the board in over a month. I guess I've been too busy w/ work and the family lately.

I'm going to try to read all the posts tonight- I hope everyone stays heathy, 8 more days until takeoff.

No problem Dave! I figured maybe your car was towed during our last snow and it just took you this long to get it out of impound! Actually, what a wimpy winter this has been. Poor folks on the east coast can't say that today!

Just wanted everyone to know that we are all getting SO excited - I think I'll haul the suitcases out of storage tonight! I found sunscreen - thanks for the heads up about Walmart. Now I'm looking for water socks - any suggestions? Has anyone looked at the 10-day forecast for Orlando, Cape Canaveral and points southeast? I'm almost afraid to look!

Hope all the stress monsters are under control for those of you who have been under attack. Won't be long now...

Here is a link to a 10 day forcast for Cape canaveral. If it holds correct (when are they ever right) they are forcasting rain for both Friday and Saturday. So if they say rain that means it will be sunny and warm we hope. Everybody stay healthy.

That wind out there is sooooo cold. But this time next week, I'll be boarding a plane and that's all that counts!!! Even 60 degree weather in Florida will be welcomed after all this!

We have changed our flight to Friday morning arriving in MCO at 2 pm. Have a car rented for the day, 22.00 USD. She might want to go shopping or dinner at Disney? ::MickeyMo

The only problem is this we don't know where to stay for the night, this was not a problem before, lol. We have disney transfers to the port and it is too late to cancel them, so we thought an off site hotel, mainly because the Hyatt is now at 164.00 minimum:eek:.

Does anyone know of a hotel that is close by, cheapish (not disgusting) that we don't need to book on Priceline or hotwire to get a good rate?;)

Well, we're more than half way there. DD and I are sharing a big suitcase, while DH has the smaller one. I haven't packed dinner or formal clothes for DH yet and still need to pack socks for dd. I think I may just use my Old Navy gift card and get 14 pairs for $20 and them dump them into the suitcase. I'm too lazy to try and match them all up.

For me, I still need to find formal and semi-formal and shoes. Can you wear sandals to dinner? I have a few pairs of birkenstocks.

I'm hitting the stores tomorrow, like a madwoman - Old Navy, the dress store, Costco, and somewhere at the mall. I found an old $50 gift certificate. Maybe I can get something for the semi-formal night with it. I just wish DH had something to do tomorrow so he didn't realize what I was doing to our Credit Cards.

Well after leaving the one bank, which is in a very small mall, I noticed a sign and under the sign were Formal Dresses! I practically ran! I love Sidewalk Sales! By the time I left that shop I had three new outfits!

BTW, Black Velvet is definately OK for this time of Year!

Well, we finally got our docs last week, and we are more than ready to get away from this below zero cold and snow. Last week the temperature was -12 F, it was snowing and the wind blew at 30 mph, all at the same time. You'd think that it would be too cold to snow, but we get "lake effect" snow from Lake Ontario, which is very light, fluffy stuff. There is now 14" on the ground and more is expected. Everyone should experience this situation - just once is enough, not day after day, thank you!

Now the packing begins. One problem that has cropped up, is that our airline - US Airways - has a 50 lb. maximum weight limit per checked bag. Any heavier than that and you pay dearly. We don't know whether to put the heavy items in the carry-ons, or take another checked bag. Otherwise I'm sure that we would exceed 50 lbs. with at least one of our bags. But this is just a minor glitch on our way to the sun and sand.

Hi all!

I made it through my busy work weekend and yesterday got to pack! I have some surprise books and stickers for DS, probably too many clothes, one formal dress (I Found one that fit!), one dress that can be for semi-formal (it's a nice sleeveless shell dress) AND for another night, and a jacket & a tux for DS!!! I am really excited about having a picture of him with Mickey on formal night, both in their tuxes.

Hmm... what's left:
1. Double check car rental rates and see if I can get anything even cheaper... LOL! (I have a $26 rate one way from AVIS to get from MCO to the Port. of course, taxes add about $10, but that's still really cheap in my book!)
2. Buy a few more sundries -- Tums, etc.
3. Double check my packing list against the one I compiled from DISBoard suggestions
4. WORK!
5. Nails & waxing...

I am so ready. It is freezing here in NJ and there is ice everywhere!

See you so soon!!!! I am really looking forward to the DISMeet!

Adrienne,
Are you staying near MCO Friday night and driving to the port Sat. a.m.? We are trying to decide if we should rent a car or hire one. We have one on hold - towncar - but like the flexibility and price of the rental. Where do you return the car and are you renting again for the ride back to MCO? Also, what time are you thinking we need to leave Sat. a.m. - that's if you're staying at MCO Friday night!

Sounds like you are ready to go! See you in 5 days!

dancermom
01-19-2004, 09:22 AM
minniesota - I know your question wasn't for me, but we're at MCO the night before, and are renting a car on Friday to go to Magic Knigdom then just keeping it and driving to the port the next morning. We went through budget, they have a drop off near the port and a shuttle to the port. I liked the idea we could leave when we wanted, and also the price. Since we were already paying for the rental car for 24 hours, I just couldn't justify getting a towncar service. We are renting again from budget on the way back, our flight is at 3:30, this way we don't need to get to the airport that early.

scratch - yeah, I'm ready for 80 hours in 4 days, but your right, on Friday morning at this time I'll be on my way to Disney then cruising, so BRING IT ON THIS WEEK.

minniesota
01-19-2004, 10:15 AM
thanks dancermom - don't even tell my kids you're going to MK! LOL Actually, we don't get in until 7:30 p.m. so that's not an option. But I am considering the rental so we can leave when we want in the a.m. and make any necessary stops. I guess maybe I'll look into it. Our return flight is 1:00 so we should be ok - or I guess we could do a one-way towncar. I read on another thread that if you are staying at the Hyatt you can put your bags out and DCL will transport them to the port (part of Hyatt's service). It would be nice not to have to deal with luggage at the port. We are getting so excited!!

Hi Gang!

Oh my gosh! It's Monday I leave on Friday and I haven't packed a thing yet! Big time panic setting in!

I just checked and my cabin number in 6133, I think I've only said that I was on deck 6.

As for formal wear, I thinking of wearing a long black velvet dress. Hope that is appropiate for this time of year.

Anyone at the Radison the night before? Is there a meet planned for Friday evening?

I will try to make the one of Sunday afternoon.

The sad thing is that I'm already thinking about depressing it will be to leave the ship...and I haven't even left yet! Am I crazy or what?

Have fun packing everyone!

Hi Minniesota!

We are getting into MCO at about 9:30 p.m., renting the car and staying (for free with Marriott points) at the Courtyard hotel at Cocoa Beach. We plan to go food shopping in the morning (mostly for lactaid milk for DS -- although they have lactose-free milk on the ship, last time it was only soy milk and DS won't go to bed without having milk & crackers about 30 minutes before bedtime... and soy milk won't do it!).

Then, we will return the car at about 11:00, take the shuttle over to the port, check in, hang around, see Mickey (very important!) and then BOARD!

Avis has a drop-off not far from the port and we liked the idea of being flexible in the morning -- going when we want to, not when our car service has been reserved. We are going to do another one-way rental for the return. It's a little more expensive -- $38 plus tax -- but still cheaper that the buses... and since we have a 5:00 p.m. flight, we can go outlet shopping!

I am so excited!

Hi Everyone! It's been a crazy weekend around here. Our home computer was down so we were buying a new one...I was going through dis-withdrawl! It was terrible. I am much calmer now that I can read everyone's posts and see that I'm not the only one.

I have to share a funny story. I was stressing yesterday as I kept looking between my piles of clothes and the luggage that I planned on taking. No way was everything going to fit and not be completely wrinkled. So I asked DH if he could help me figure something out. He asked which bags I planned on taking and his immediate response was - no way, just take another bag! Out of the mouth of a man!!! Amazing!!! I just love my DH!!!!

Okay - we were off yesterday - MLK - so now it is back to work for a grueling 3 day work week. I can handle that...because on Friday we're off!!!!

Another funny story to tell - yesterday I scheduled a pedicure and massage. Well, my nail tech was running slow and by the time she had the polish on my toes, I had 15 minutes to let them dry and get to my massage therapist. So - she let my nails dry for 5 minutes and let me walk out in the snow/ice-covered sidewalks in those pedicure slippers....yes my feet were quite cold. I got to my car, turned the heat on full blast - hoping it would both defrost the ice and more importantly - dry those toe nails.

Packing. YAK. DH and I always get into arguments on packing. He decides that the one suitcase is his and he packs like one or two items and leaves the big suitcase emty. I see what he does and switch all his stuff to the suitcase I am using and put stuff in his suitcase for other items. He gets PO'ed at me when I do this. STRESS STRESS on the packing issue.

Let's have it come as you are!

Don't forget we will have to get ready for either formal or semi-formal that night so why change twice! Less stress the better!

One good thing! I don't have to worry about a DH just a DD who thinks that she can bring her entire closet when in fact she only wears the same thing over and over again!LOL
Her stuff is neatly sitting on our couch ready for me to take the suitcases out! No I have not done that yet! I don't want to stress the cat out! He knows that something is up but still has not figured it out! He will tomorrow night when we take him to the Kennel!

Remember, 1/2 the clothes twice the money!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with a DH driving me crazy. If I seriously maim him between now and Friday, do you think insurance would kick in for his portion? I need a vacation from him right now.

He insists that I never told him we were staying at the Radisson on Friday and he wanted to stay at the Hyatt MCO. Now he's being a big baby, saying he doesn't even know where we're going on vacation.

He's also being completely unsympathetic about my evil boss and work stress. I'm ready to tear my hair out here  and he just keep serving me platitudes about being a duck or some such nonsense.

I have so much to do and no time to do it in. I need shoes, makeup, carryon bags. I need to pack, unpack and repack. I'm just going crazy!

Is it Friday yet?

We have 5 bedrooms and DH and I use one, 3 kids and my FIL (MIL still very very ill)...that leaves no bedroom to pack in. What a good idea to pack in the living room. I am going to organize in there.

I am still so stressed...but I decided not to care ... if it gets done it gets done...if it doesn't....it doesn't.

I do need to find my DOCS and Birth Certs. Maybe I should do that now.......

OK everyone - breathe deep. And again. One more time. Now repeat after me - "stress monsters be gone-you have no power over me!" Now who wants to sign up for wine tasting? Any takers?

One other question for experienced cruisers: where in the terminal could you meet up with another family? Our kids want to meet kids from another family while we're waiting to embark. Any obvious meeting places?

Breathe deep. Close your eyes. One last time... see you on the ship!

Find a neighbor to take the kids! Pay them if you have to!

The the only real important this is to get the money! And because of his attitude, get more of it! Only pick up the dry cleaning if you need it for the cruise! If not phone them and tell them you will be a little late picking it up!

Cleaning the house, do what DD does, put everything under the bed! or in the Closet! Inside the dressers! It will be there when you get back!

As for packing, just throw it in! Just make sure your dresses are neat!

Oh for some stress relief, when DH comes back with a clean Jeep, have the kids throw some mud at it!LOL

Have I mentioned lately that
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!

When you think you're the only one...you get on the boards...and there are people out there suffering just like you.

So exactly HOW MANY TIMES do I have to explain to my DH the concept of what he needs to lay out? Yes, dear, one night is formal night, one night is semi-formal night, etc....
No dear you need to remember your black socks! Yes dear, we are leaving on Friday. No dear, I am juggling every other detail with this trip, I don't have time to iron your shirts....that is what that nice little lady at the dry cleaners is for. Yes dear I do need more than one pair of shoes.

I thought I was going to scream.

But here is the kicker -

So DH calls his parents last night and when he gets off the phone, he casually mentions that his parents are tagging along with my parents to Cape Canaveral on Friday to see us. Now - we only wanted one set of parents there...cause his parents stress us out. So, this isn't exactly how I (or he) were planning on starting our vacation. So, I bite my tongue till it is bleeding and say, "Oh!". Then the packing arguments start. The entire night I have a knot in my stomach. I wake up this AM and call my mom...and she tells me that his parents are not coming along and that he must be playing a joke on me. A JOKE!!!!! This is not funny. Well, he doesn't know that I know and revenge is sweet! This is one practical joke I didn't need before this trip!

And again, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You guys are my sanity!

Glad to see I am not alone. DH doesn't understand my stress of everyone having everything they could possibly need, and also work, do payroll and billing for his business, take care of the girls and the puppy, with his only worry going to see the big meet tonight of the high school wrestling team his brother coaches.

He lookes at me like I wanted him to cut his arm off and eat it when I told him he was responsible for packing his shaving things.

Wine tasting!!!!!! When do we start, is on the way to the port too soon????? Or better yet on the way to the airport????

I thinkd I'm taking three times the money that way DH can buy me something nice for my stress!!!!!

RIGHT NOW!!!

I'm glad my DH isn't the only Neanderthal out there. Now, his parents are insisting they drive us to and pick us up from the airport. Very nice gesture, but now we have to figure out how to pack our suitcases in our little car, get them to my inlaws, pack them in their car and have them take use to the airport in their little car. It's just adding stress to an already stressful day. Plus, that means the first people i see after my vacation is them...:( Not my idea of fun.

Oh well, they are saving us $140. So, that means one more massage for me. :D

I'm bringing 3 x the money (I'm getting my ring!) and may "forget" to pack DH's underwear. ;)

Keep your chins up, we'll make it.

You guys are going to hate me....

My DH is exactly the OPPOSITE of yours.....I had to remind him we are leaving on Friday(he totally forgot we are going on vacation)....he could care less how much luggage.....how much money.....how many days the kids are missing from school.....what he will wear...what any of us will wear....nothing...

He said just tell him where to be and when and all be be okay. He did find all of the Birth Certs for me though.

He is so worried about his mom. I hate to say this.....but I hope she does not die while we are gone. The doctors keep saying she can live like this for years....she is just laying in the hospital bed and she yells out loud about 6-8 hours a day...no matter how much medicine they give her. She is not aware of anything going on around her. it has been like this for 12 weeks now. They are having a big prayer vigil right now....oh my....

Thanks for listening.....

My navigators show both Sunday and Monday but it sounds like Monday works best. Works for me. You have to reserve your spot at Guest Services and from what I read on some thread, they spots fill up fast. Not sure if one person can make all the reservations - well, no I guess they would need your KTTW. Anyway if all agree, let's reserve our spots for Monday at 2:30! said she'd just call me if she had questions next week. :rotfl: After I explained that I would be in the middle of the Atlantic, with no cell service, she was quite perturbed. She then said I would just have to check my e-mail. Again, I had to explain that dialing in would cost about $3.00/minute and I didn't think that under the current expense watch, the company would go for that. She asked if I could use the Internet cafe and I had to explain the whole firewall situation to her - a public computer won't let me access my work files. She then reprimanded me for not telling her I would be totally unavailable next week. Uh, I thought that was what cruise and vacation meant.

Are you getting it at home AND on these boards??? Come on, how's Melissa doing? She's probably nothing like us crazy wives, right?

Good morning all! Hi Karen! No, I have not been driven away! This is the first time in several days I've had a chance to get on the boards (and I really on read the current page or two).

Work has been very hectic, and also finalizing the kitchen repairs that were mentioned in the very beginning of this thread has taken a lot of time and energy.

My wife and I have been working on the ironing/packing, etc. for the last few days. All we have is our last minute stuff to work on tonight. Actually, it's been pretty smooth on us. I hate last minute rushes, etc.; and she wants help doing it. So as long as we're not doing all that sort of packing, etc. last minute, it's no big deal for me. I put TV on in the background, and we just start organizing and packing!!

Looking forward to getting away from my job and just disappearing! I saw the new DCL commercial with the guy falling asleep everywhere, and I said to Missy that there is a real danger that will be me!!:o

For all of you with no help in getting ready - I feel sorry! Getting ready is half the fun of the vacation, at least I think!

For us in Wisconsin, we could not have picked a better time to leave for a cruise. As of now it is -4 degrees below zero with a wind chill of at least -30 to -40 degrees below zero. For tonight they are saying -15 below zero for a low and windy. We should not have any weather releated problems for our flight Friday, just cold. Our family is all ready to go. Just pack the dress clothes and a few misc items Friday morning, drop the dog off at grandma's and off we go. I hope everybody has a safe trip to the port and we will see you all there.

Not sure if anyone is left reading the boards but just had to share. I know several of you have said you have plenty of meds, or bandaids, etc. While I did all of the planning and packing (which is just fine with me since I'm an at-home mom and I have more time than DH), I did ask him to go to the bank and pick up some cash and to make sure he got some $1 bills for room service tips. He brought home $100 in ones!!!LOL So....if anyone needs $1 bills, look us up! He makes me laugh!! See you guys soon. We are on the ceiling!

It looks like we'll be the last to leave the cold, snowy north. We fly out mid-morning tomorrow, and should be on board the Magic by 3:00 PM. Although the forecast is for light snow and cold (near 0 F), flying should be OK. The only delay that I can see is for de-icing the plane, which has to be done for all aircraft parked on the tarmac overnight at this time of year. This is done after we board and pull away from the gate. This is only a 15-20 minute process and we should arrive in Pittsburgh in time to make our connection.

We'll turn out the lights. See you on board.

We're home too. We had a 5:55 p.m. flight out of MCO, so spent a few hours at Downtown Disney before the rain came. Then, we camped out at the airport.

I can't believe I'll have to make my bed and cook tomorrow! :( I want to be back on board.

Hope you all had a safe trip home and had a great vacation!

It does not have a Room Service Button!LOL

We made it home safely but due to turbulence, guess who got sick! Better at home then on the ship!

It is so strange to see 6" of snow instead of sand!

I want to go back NOW!

It was great meeting so many new friends! And of course seeing my "Sister" again!

Thanks Andy for the Pics! The postcards are in the mail!

Is it January 2005 yet!?!

Daugther is requesting room service and for the room steward to come. She said "I don't like reality. I much prefer the MAGIC" We drove in an ice storm at 30 mph for112 miles to get home last night. Glad to have made it safely. Veranda Man thanks for the pix!!
It was really nice to meet the DIS'rs. I sure enjoyed meeting Dancer Mom. She has a lovely family. Also love to Scratch...she was an inspiration. (Ask her about the great service at Palo ;) )

Did any one re book for next year and when?? Love to hear.
Tough call--I LOVED the Eastern Itenary- St John and Trunk Bay was as close to heaven that I've been. But I love Grand Cayman too.

Thanks for all the cost saving tips! I hope to post my list of cost saving things I did to save money thanks to all the ideas that DIS'rs shared with me.

Stay warm friends!

We're booked for the January 15th Western next year. Can't beat the price! We're paying the price we would have paid for our category 11 room, but we're getting a category 6 (must have that verandah!) I'm already researching excursions!

We made it home safe and sound - and the temp made it past zero for the first time in five days! Woohoo! We're getting snow again today - about 4 -6 inches. Yuck!

We also really enjoyed meeting everyone - such nice people on these boards.

TinkerbellMom - what excursion were you on and at what time? We were supposed to go to Trunk Bay that morning but had to detour because of rough seas and poor visibility for snorkeling! Were we duped? Just curious. We ended up at St. James island and we were very disappointed in the snorkeling. ANd the beach was not much either. Hmmm. Let me know which excursion you did. Thanks!

We are also on the Jan 29th 05 Western.....Kids are out of school the 31st and 1st of Feb.....maybe snow will close school the rest of the week like it did this past week...my kids hardly missed any school....

the4nitzs - I don't even think we meet....iI guess we will be on a new thread together! It was so busy and one of my teenagers got strep in his skin....it was very painful. He was in the health service 5 different times got 4 shots....3 precriptions....2 over the counter medicines......and many tests...the total bill was $320....I could not believe how cheap it was! And the service was outstanding! They called us in the stateroom several times to check on him.

I think dancermom was thinking about this cruise as well....Jamie what did you all decide...Annie would love to be back on board with Sarah and Gracie!

Take care and stay warm...snow here on Tuesday Thursday and Friday....

Lisa - we are up in the air. I was saying no because we are joining the vacation club, but now that I have experienced cold, I'm thinking we will need to book. My company is having a major reorg this week, so if I still have a job there is a good chance we will do the 29th western. I'll keep you posted.

We too enjoyed meeting everyone, and hope to keep in touch. Have a great rest of the winter.

Minniesota,

I was traveling with TinkerBellMom and we didn't do an excursion. In an effort to save money we took a taxi to Red Hook, a ferry to St. John, and a taxi to Trunk Bay, total $26 a piece round trip. I'm not sure it was cheaper but the flexibility was great. We arrived between 10:00 and 11:00 am. Trunk Bay was stunning. I've never seen a prettier beach. The water was clear aqua, the snorkel trail was cool and monitored by lifeguards. This was our first time snorkeling and the equipment rental was only $5 (w/ a $25 refundable deposit). So much cheaper than $25 @ CC and according to a mag I read on the plane, Trunk Bay is the best snorkeling beach in the Carribean. What excursion were you on?

minniesota
02-03-2004, 04:03 PM
We were on the 5 Star St. John Snorkle Beach Adventure on the Leylon Sneed. We were on our way by about 8:30 and half-way into the boat ride over to Trunk Bay, the captain announced that they had radioed ahead to the lifeguards and were told it was too rough to go to Trunk Bay. They said they wouldn't be able to get their dinghys into the beach from the boat and that there was poor visibility in the water. We were detoured to ST. James island and the snorkeling was poor at best. ANd the beach was not the greatest. We had a funny feeling about the captain's announcement - it just didn't ring true somehow. We figured maybe the bay was overbooked with other excursions and we got the short straw! Sounds like you guys had the right idea.

Glad to hear that everyone made it home okay. It sounds as though we are all living in the freezer! I'm enjoying my photos- especially Trunk Bay!

Trunk Bay is a National Park and is one of the top 10 beaches in the world (Travel Chanel) What a treat to get to go there!!

We took a Taxi from the ship to Redhook and then took the ferry to St John. We caught a taxi in St John for $4 to take us to Trunk Bay. Total round trip transportation expenditures from ship to
Trunk Bay and back was $30 per person. It was $4 for adults to enter the National park for non-park members. Kids under 16 were free. It was VERY Clean-shower etc. Snack Bar sold beer and food etc- reasonalbe. The best part was the snorkeling!! $5 to rent equipt and the fish were awesome in their natural habitat. There was a snorkel trail with signs and info on the fish and coral etc. Very nice to see the fish in a natural setting vs. the man made setting at Castaway Cay. I enjoyed it much more than Castaway Cay. The water was very clear. The beach was much warmer and had much better sand too! Water was warm with nice waves. Instead of umbrellas, we used palm trees for shade! We spent the day. One day I will never forget!

It was nice to meet all of you. Hopefull all works out so we can meet again on the Western 1/29/05. ( Hint hint to those that scheduled for 1/15 I'd really love to meet you!) (Dancer Mom think hard about joining. My Sarah just loved your Sarah. The giggles at midnight could be heard 2 decks away!

I need to add what lovely children you all have. My daughter Sarah met many nice girls her age. I can tell that you all are raising your daughters well. All the DISer-girls I met were the kind of kids that I like my Sarah to hang with. Hats off to such good mothers!

:wave2: Bye for now

Hi all!

Sorry I've been quiet... it's really busy here at the office.

We had a great time... until Thursday night. I was pretty sure I was having an allergic reaction to fish oil (I have had it many times before and know it well, unfortunately). Well, the next day, I still wasn't back to normal. Thanks heavens for Jenn (QueenTrident) who saw me feeling unwell at Castaway Cay and got a CM to help. (THANK YOU AGAIN!) Everyone one the ship and at CC said I was just seasick from the rolling that night... Although that didn't ring true to me, I stopped arguing. I checked it out when I got home... and it was my fish oil reaction. I even had hives. Somehow, some essense of it must have touched my food at the Captain's Gala. Yuck. I have gotten sick from eating a sandwich that was on the same plate as a tuna sandwich, so I am really sensitive to this.

So, I didn't end up rebooking on board, since I was feeling not so great. I am still torn. I got Donna's card and contemplated calling her, but then as I was thinking about it, I realized that I missed WDW on this trip. Maybe the 4-day is better for me... or maybe I am stilll disappointed that I missed Castawy Cay and that my allergies weren't really cared for in the way I expected (my server even recommended mushroom soup to me one night, after I had told him on the first night that I am allergic to mushrooms!).

We had a good time other than that, but it wasn't really how we wanted to end our vacation.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my venting.... maybe this will help me decide what to do.

-- Adrienne : )
