We won't be arriving on Thanksgiving night at WDW until about 8 PM. Is there anywhere we can watch Illuminations or MK fireworks without going into the parks? Can you see Illuminations from the Boardwalk? If so, should I make a PS somewhere? Or would it be better to see the MK fireworks? This is not our first time but our first time with 2 DSs ages 5 and 8 months. We are staying at ASM. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

That will be our first day in the World as well. The MK fireworks "Wishes" are scheduled to begin at 8:00 that night. We're planning on watching them from the California Grill - 6:30 PSs, I think. You can see the Illuminations fireworks portion from the Boardwalk. The view is a bit obstructed, but pretty good. You wouldn't need a PS for that.

The roof top of the Comtemporary Hotel or California Grill or actually the beach at the Polynesian Hotel.

You know what I found to be a nice little enjoyment? While staying at WL, one night we went to the boat dock to watch fireworks. Instead we took a nice boat ride (regular transportation to WL/Fort W/MK and back) during the fireworks. Had a great view of the MK fireworks while riding in the boat.
Then at MK -- right in front of us was the electric pagent water parade.
Made for a very nice boat ride. :)
We returned to WL and watched the parade on the beach too. :)

We'll also be at the California Grill that night! Sounded like a nice place for a Thanksgiving Dinner, not to mention getting the Fireworks as an added bonus!
