I started taking my One A Day Women's vitmains. After about a week I read the label and low and behold there is Dextrose. I've been looking around for a new vitamin and haven't found one I like yet.

I've been taking the "Kirkland" brand of super multi vitamin from Costco. I supplement it with extra Calcium, Potassium, and Vit. E. I also take L-Carnitine (1000 mg) every day. :)

I'll have to check the label to see if it has Dextrose. What is Dextrose?

Most supplements and/or over the counter medications contain some amount of carbohydrate. The base of the medications often uses corn starch so allow 1 gram for each pill you take unless you know for sure that they contain no refined carbohydrates. I believe that Dr. Atkins says in his book to allow one gram of carbohydrate for each pill.

No fair, huh?

Rhonda,
Have you noticed any improvement from taking L-Carnitine? I started taking 500 mg a day about two weeks ago but I don't know how to judge if it helps or not! The description in Dr Atkins book makes it sound like an essential for met. resistant folks like myself. Maybe I need to up to 1000 mg. The stuff is so darn expensive, I want to make sure its worth it.

Dextrose is sugar. (http://www.webref.org/chemistry/d/dextrose.htm)

I'm going to look around for a brand with no added sugar.

Twin Labs are all no sugar, no yeast, etc.

Solaris (I think thats the name-- white bottle) is also no sugar. I think all the Vitamin World line is no sugar no yeast. Try a health food store it your regular store doesn't carry any of the better brands.

Good luck

plutosmyfav: Yes - I definitely notice a difference when I'm taking L-Carnitine! 500 mg. does nothing for me though, so I had to up it to 1000 a day. Some people take 1500/day, but it's too expensive for me to do that!! :o

Check the diabetic section at your pharmacy. They sell a multivitamin for diabetics. Guessing those would not contain sugar. I believe the Walmart store carries one called alpha-betic.
My Dh does not have diabetes, but did try their vitamins for awhile...suggested by family doctor. Supposed to help his metabolism I think. It's been awhile. He went back to a generic Centrum because of the cost though.
