What are Universal Script Bucks?

I bought an Entertainment book and card. In it it advertises coupons for "Universal Script Bucks", in varying denominations for the various lenght passes (more for 3 day passes vs. 1 day pass, etc). What exactly are these? It also says that coupon must be presented at time of ticket purchase. I was hoping to save some time by purchasing 3 day pass tickets over the Universal website before we left home. Can I still get the Script Bucks if I do that?

Universal Script bucks are like Disney Dollars. You can only redeem them at the parks for any food or merchandise. The coupon officially says they must be redeemed at the time of purchase, which means to me you must buy the tickets at the gate.
