I'm selfishly seeking some pixie dust today- we're about to head out for a big family reunion (I made baked beans, deviled eggs, and tollhouse pan cookies-only had one bite of dough!)- but I'm really needing some extra strength to not overeat at this shindig. I finally grabbed the 45 pound clippie and have been weighing a pound over that since weigh in- I've walked 4 miles everyday- and been VERY good with eating- what's UP??? I'm taking my walking shoes and planning on walking a bunch of trails- but if you could see the spread of food at these reunions- OH MY GOSH!! It is sooo comfort food- grandma's pound cake, 3 different mac/cheeses, the best barbecue chicken with white barbecue sauce, tons of homemade rolls- oh it goes on and on!! I think sometimes I look more forward to the food than I do the relatives!
We're leaving in 30 minutes- my goal is to wear my tightest shorts and drink about 3 bottles of water before arriving there (2 hour drive)- I don't want to sabotage my 50 pound clippie that I am shooting for by 9/23- Okay- I feel stronger just admitting my weaknesses- thanks guys! I'll give an update on return tomorrow!
Okay- 50 cousins- 30 aunts and uncles- here we come!!!

Tara, {{hugs}} to you!! Just knowing in advance and mentally preparing is half the battle. You're doing so well!!
You will have hard choices to make today, but know that whatever you decide, we'll all be here for you tomorrow!

Tara, all of that walking you are doing is building muscles...hence the 1 pound you keep seeing. It's a good thing, really. :)
(promise you'll tell me that when I'm worrying about the same thing some day)
Good luck at the reunion. Does your family play softball or any other sport? Stay as far away from the food table as you can and remember your goals. You will do just fine! Don't beat yourself up if you have a few bites that you shouldn't...in fact, that may be the best way to handle it. Allow yourself a taste, and let it go at that.
Have a great day. :)

Tara,
Throwing pixie dust your way! Boy aren't those family functions difficult! You have a good attitude, and are trying to plan ahead by wearing the tight pants and drinking your water. You can do it! You are doing so terrific loosing those 45 pounds! You go girl!

Tara, could you stop along the way to the reunion and eat a filling low point meal? If you arrive with a full tummy perhaps you won't be so tempted.
You will still face that "emotional" temptation, though. I know exactly how you feel. Somehow we were raised that when you go to one of these shindigs you are supposed to eat and eat and eat. It's almost more important than the reunion itself. I wish I had a magical way for you to break that pattern.
You can do this. Try to focus on your success and not focus on what you can't eat. The joy of the comfort foods will be very short lived. The self confidence that comes with success lasts a lifetime. You, my friend, are a success, you know that already.
Go to the reunion and make some wonderful memories. Don't obsess over food, just make the best choices possible and have lots of fun. {{{HUGS}}} Take lots of photographs :)

All will be fine. I am sure you will make sensible choices, taking small portions of those Can't Be Missed foods with a Slim Fast waiting at home, if needed. Go! Enjoy the time with your extended family!

I know how you can get through this, Tara!! Just take those 3 cheetos you eat everyday as a cheat!!! ;) Just kidding. You are a strong, successful person and have accomplished soooo much already. You're not going to let a mere family reunion get you down!!! Just tell yourself that you will be abstaining at THIS reunion, but the next one you will be able to enjoy all the goodies more fully!!! It will give you more time to talk to all the relatives!
{{{Hugs}}} I'll be thinking of you today at your reunion and sending some PD your way!:D

1. I stuck with lots of water.
2. I made my portions of the famous casseroles 2 spoonfuls or less.
3. I limited myself to 2-3 pieces of cheat food a day- Saturday (2 tollhouse pan cookies day one and 2 small chocolate confections (bite sized) and 1/2 brownie today)
4. And I AVOIDED the food table by canoeing over 3 hours this weekend!! My arms are sooo feeling the burn!
Thanks guys for the great support- what's so WONDERFUL was the SHOCK on relatives faces who hadn't seen me since last Christmas- half the time the discussion was how I was doing it- I had to brag about the 1/2 marathon group that inspires me and the Disney WISH team- my husband said so many came up to him and bragged on me and noticed he had lost too! So sweet- and perfect motivation to get even closer to goal by Christmas- I'll never look at family functions with fear again- I'll just never expect to LOSE weight that particular week! :) Anxious to see my weigh in on Tuesday- I'm avoiding the scale until then!! :)
Thanks team!!
