Hello all!

Just getting an early feel as to who will be joining us on the September 4th Disney Magic Eastern Cruise!

I know Rae will be with us! Who else?!

I'll wait a little while before I start the official September 4th Disney Magic Cruise List site! :)

Travis--

Glad to see that we have company! I have heard, through the Dis Board grapevine, that you wouldn't show yourself for Andy!

At any rate, it's cool to see that you're onboard. We'll be starting a September 4th Disney Cruise List site at some point in the future and we hope that many will send in their pics/info.

Our August 16th site did well. You can check it out here August 16th Disney Cruise List

As of right now, we're in Category 11 on Deck 7.

Talk to you soon! :D

Hold him to that promise Jason, he's a sly one, he! he!

We didn't spend a whole lot of time in our cabin, we were always up and about doing something, you should have left a note on our fish, that you were around, you little stinker, he! he! My DW really wanted to meet you, she heard so much about you. By the end of the cruise, she thought you were just a figment of my imagination!!!

Is this your first DCL cruise?

I just sent Momma Rae an e-mail with this thread attached, I'm sure she will jump on the band wagon soon. Momma Rae and Michael are probably out riding their horses this morning!!!

Hello boys! Thanks for starting this thread! I wish I was out riding as Andy had suggested!!! Let's say that housework is overrated and leave it at that!!!

Okay, so who is on the cruise with me for next year - right now it's me and Tom, but that could change and it be Mom and Michael.
Just not quite sure but hey, I'll be there regardless!!!

So we are going to Puerto Rico - Disney diverted us there last fall during Hurricane Lili - what can I tell you.....

The entrance to the harbor is very beautiful since the fort sits on the left side as we enter. The harbor itself isn't much - there is a small mall there where you can get your rum cheap!

Mom only wanted to go gamble her $20 away so we didn't do very much there. I got Michael to come off the ship but he wasn't very interested so it was a short trip to look around and say he was there.

They do have a tour to the Rum Factory - this time I'm in for that one. I also heard a few other tours were very good. I will look for my information and get back with you on that.

My only birth child - Christopher will be 23 on Monday, September 8. We are going down to Indy to be with him tomorrow - first to Mass at St. Michael's Church then to dinner. Should be interesting to see where he chooses to dine. At least I know it won't be cheap or fast food!

I'm homeschooling Michael with Seton Catholic Home School Program - 2nd grade. It's been a wonderful 1st Quarter with him -challenging work for him and easy lesson plans for me. Plus the horses are his incentive to get his work done and have a good attitude during his "class time"!

As for my other sons, Jason and Travis - could a Mom be any prouder than I am with those two?! Heavens, you only have to meet them to love them! Two incredible intelligent and good looking guys - and again, I can't take the credit or tax break for either!!!

So here we go on our adventure - me and whomever else comes along that is!!!!

Hey Rae! At least this time you will be prepared for PR! I remember watching the fort with you as we pulled into the harbor. We will be sailing a month after you (Oct 2004) going to Antiuga. :bounce:

This will be our second Disney Cruise. DW, DSD, and I went on the 7/19 Western and had a great time (we took nearly three weeks going there, going on the cruise, and going home--it was quite a vacation). Can't wait for next September!

Momma-Rae!

Glad to hear from you! It seems that you'll be the all-knowing island guide for the cruisers on the September 4th voyage seeing as how you're experienced with this part of the world! It's probably a good thing, as I tend to get lost easily! (I'll have to tell you about my trip to Lakeland someday.)

We'll be putting up the cruise list site for the September 4th cruise soon. We'll even have our very own domain this time around! ( ***************** ) :)

Best wishes to you and Christopher on the special day tomorrow! He's a very lucky guy! :)

Good morning!

Hey, Mary - can you give us some ideas about what you and the group did in Puerto Rico - since all I can comment on is how Mom lost some money at the casino?!!! Sure would appreciate it.
Yes, it was so nice to have that time with you as we came into Port. I really enjoyed being with you and the rest of the Octoberfest Cruisers!! Give them all my best!!

What! My sons are going to have their own domain! WOW! Makes a Momma proud! We had a nice time with Christopher and his fiance Natalie yesterday - she showed us her wedding dress, etc. Things have improved dramatically since last year for all of us in that regard. Thank God!

I'm going to go over to the Octoberfrest cruisers (RellingTwin's group) and ask them to jump over here to give us any PR suggestions for excursions.

Can't wait to get the excursion pamphlet for the Puerto Rico cruises from Disney. Hopefully they will put together some nice packages for each of us to select from.

Until then, you guys may find this site fun to explore:

Hi Rae, Other twin checking in! LOL We did the snorkle excusion at PR last year. It was a long bus ride, (about an hour) then checking in at the boat, getting our gear, and then going out to the snorkle site. So it was well over 2 hours from check-in on the ship, to getting wet. The trip info said snacks, soft drinks and beer would be provided. There was a bowl of chips/nut mix and some sodas on the snorkle boat, after we started back to the dock. No beer, and we were HUNGRY! Chips just didn't cut it. Our Disney guide was wonderful!!! I think his name was Luigi. The snorkle part was very good. We saw a lot of beautiful coral. Not a huge amount of fish but enough. The water was beautiful, warm and clear. We got some great underwater pics. On the way back to the ship I kind of dozed off, I think a lot of people did. I think considering that Disney had about 24 hours to put it together, it was a very good trip. If that had been a scheduled port and prepaid excusion, I would have been disappointed. Why? Because it took so long to get to the marina and back. Also the "snack and bev" was not what I expected. If I had known, I would have brought some sandwiches, drinks, and beer from the ship. Hope this helps. Have a great time! Just under 5 weeks for us to do it again.

Hello to fellow cruisers -

DH and I are planning to start our vacation on the Sept 4th trip. We need to relieve Jason and Travis of the 'repeat baton'. At this point we plan to do our 11th, 12th and 13th cruises in Sept (4th, 11th and 18th). Three different itin. within 1 month.

Good to know that I'll be seeing Dan and Scott again since I had to back out at the last minute in October.

Will be heading to PR for the first time later this month. Hope to get some good planning ideas for Sept in port.

Dan and Scott,

I guess we'll just have to wait the additional 2 weeks. My big-big sister (from my fraternity) and her husband will be joining us for our last week onboard.

Jason and Travis,

Can't wait to do back-to-backs again. It's funny how crew members react when your still on board the next week. This will be our 3rd time doing back-to-back but our first three-peat. Had to cancel a double last year so we just rescheduled for this year and added on a third week. Can't wait. I'm just shocked that we were both approved for the time off.

We will be cruising on the 9/4/2004 Magic! It will just be myself, Paul, and my wife Kaye. Right now we are in a cat. 7 room on deck 5.

This will be our third DCL cruise. First was the 4-night Wonder in December of 2002. Our second was in October of 2003. Both times we were fortunate enough to have cruised with Rae. And probably had the best vacations ever.

We re-booked for the 9/4/2004 cruise while we were onboard in October 2003. Couldn't resist the 10% and $200 onboard credit offer. Makes for a good excuse to cruise again.

Looking forward on getting to know everyone going on the cruise.

Paulmc80 &/or any other DC pro who knows about this...

You said that you couldn't resist the 10% discount to cruise again...

I've heard that a day or 2 before the end of the cruise, people stand in line to book another cruise, do they really offer that great of a deal? Is this done on every cruise?

I'm afraid that if the rates are so good, maybe I'll be standing on that line then. Is it for specific cruise dates or can you choose from anything available?

Thanks!

Millie--

Great questions about rebooking! The stories that you hear about long lines at the rebooking desk are very true. Generally, they offer *very* good deals.

For instance, Travis and I booked this cruise (September 4th) while we were onboard in May. The per-person price was $799.00. That's not a bad deal in and of itself. However, along with the $799.00 they offered a $400.00 onboard stateroom credit if you rebooked while onboard. A great deal!

Generally, the discounts work like this: You can book any date while onboard (as long as it's available) and get an onboard stateroom credit. (The onboard credit usually runs $200.00 per cabin on the 7-night cruises. We just happened to get lucky on the $400 one.) At the same time, they usually offer select sailings that are substantially reduced to $799. These $799 rates are limited to select sailings and specific dates. They tend to be about 1 year from the date that you are sailing on. So, since we sail on Sep. 4th, you may expect to see Aug./Sep./Oct 2005 offered at a reduced rate.

At times, these offers may change. Just as some have mentioned a $799 rate plus a 10% discount; our $400 onboard credit, $899 rates on the Western versus $799 on the Eastern, etc.

I hope this helps some! And, I'll see you in the re-booking line! ;)

When we rebooked while onboard I just left Donna a voicemail message letting her know what I was looking for. She called me back and left a message with the informaiton. I returned her call and went over a few things and rebooked with the discount and onboard credit! Was convenient for us and we didn't have to wait in lines.

Just got our plane fares from Atlanta down to Orlando on 9/3 Reserved a room for Pop Century the night before the cruise. Love to just putter around WDW the night before and start getting into the Disney mood. We will also be staying two nights at WDW after the cruise.

We're actually seasonal passholders - we try to avoid the crowds so we don't go during the blackout dates anyway.
We try to get up at least twice a year - in May & September but we just did the Wonder in Feb and May is going to be a litle crazy for us so we may just have to wait until the fall.

In my opinion, one of the great things about Disney Cruise Line is that they aim to build a cruise experience for all individuals regardless of age or family structure. Disney looks after all groups, be they toddlers, teenagers, young-adults, parents, or grandparents!

After sailing with DCL four times, you definitely do not need kids to have an outstanding time.

Welcome back!

Haven't seen anything official yet but there are some San Juan excursions listed at http://www.shoretrips.com

ThreeCircles

Thanks for the link Tony. This excursion looks especially neat:

EL YUNQUE RAIN FOREST TOUR AND HIKE

Our contact in San Juan seemed too good to be true. She had already developed a handful of tours we were looking for and she was willing and able to work on whatever we seemed to request. She lived up to all our expectations. She was so full of energy that the noon heat hardly had an affect on her. I, on the other hand, felt like all my clothes were stuck to me!

Now you don't need a large group to get a superb trip to El Yunque. One of our favorite tour operators is now providing this fabulous tour with a minumum of just 2 people.

Out of the metropolitan area, 'on the island' there are a variety of excursions; as it is a small island, it is possible to see forested mountains and desert-like areas without having to travel great distances. El Yunque, or the Caribbean National Forest, is a tropical forest and a bird sanctuary, the largest rain forest in the US forest service system.

The forest is divided into the north side and the south side, with no road connection. Concrete trails to the various peaks, as well as to waterfalls and look-out towers, give excellent views.

After a 45-minute ride, we will visit El Portal Tropical Forest Center to enjoy a documentary about the forests' interesting features. El Portal opened in 1996 and, besides giving you an education, it provides patios where you can relax and enjoy the views. A low-impact hiking trail (Caimitillo) at Palo Colorado Information Center will follow, and you will learn more about the nesting habits of the Puerto Rican Parrot. Also included are short stops at La Coca Falls and Yocahķ Observation Tower.

Due to weather conditions, the order of the schedule on all the tours could vary.

Pricing: Per Person: $56.00 USD Private Tour: $67.00 USD (Per Person, Minimum of 4)

Travis and I did the St. John Eco Hike on the Magic May 1st Cruise and we both loved it. Our guide, Thunderhawk, was really great and very knowledgable about the island.

Would anyone be interested in joining is for a private tour if we decide on this excursion?

Ok time to come forward -

I cruised last March (2003) and LOVED IT and after three weeks at home booked for 9/2003. While on board I rebooked for this cruise (9/4/04). I have delayed posting here because I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to keep the reservation. At this time I still have no one traveling with me and that may cause me to move the reservation (I bought a house in February and that has drained the savings account) but I really want to go to San Juan.

To all my fellow cruisers,

My wife, daughter 8, and I are looking forward to joining in on the cruise. We are all excited, as this will be our first cruising experience. My daughter is especially excited, as she loves all things Disney (as do my wife and I, just not to the same degree). We have been to WDW several times over the past few years.

We are lucky in that we get to enjoy Florida in July. We will be there over the 4th of July week visiting family. Our hope is to sneak in some time at WDW. I know my family has already scheduled SW, DC, and Busch Gardens. We just have to steer them towards the mouse parks.

Jason, I guess that I can no longer be considered a lurker (over two years of visiting the disboards), since this is my first official post.

Anyway, we look forward to meeting with you all and joining in the excitement.

We wouldn't want you to have to talk to yourself! I'm sure there are some sort of mental qualifications required in order for you to be able to cruise, and you might not pass them if you continue down that path!!!

Since you and Travis seem to be the Disney Cruise experts on our voyage, I'd like to ask you a question. What are some of the better activities you guys have done on the St. Thomas/St. John stop? I was thinking of getting in a round of golf, but I might end up swimming with the fishes I do that. :fish: :fish:

Tell Travis we'll have to buy him a belated-B'Day cocktail once we meet up. If you guys celebrate b'day's like we do, then the celebration will still be going on when we board. :bday:

I too will be celebrating a b'day while on board. Mine happens to come on CC day during the cruise, and I can't wait to have one of those famous Konk Coolers that I have read so much about.

Tony--

Sorry it's taken so long to reply to your post. We were at Disney today and just now got back home (11:32 P.M.) We stopped at Olivia's at Old Key West for lunch and then headed to Disney-MGM Studios for the afternoon/evening. And now, I'm tired! http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/edoom/sleeping.gif

This will be our third visit to St. Thomas and we have tried a few different things on the island. On our first visit in May of 2003 we took a taxi to down town Charlot Amalia and shopped. The downtown area had over 300 shops according to the Shopping In Paradise Guide. There's also restaurants, art galleries, and neat walkways and pathways. It was a lot of fun just to explore the downtown area on our own.

Last month was our second visit to the island so we wanted to do some excursions. We pre-booked the St. John Eco Hike through Disney Cruise Line and we also booked tram tickets to visit Paradise Point.

I have to say that the Eco Hike was a great experience and one that both Travis and I enjoyed a lot. The guide, Thunder Hawk, was very knowledgeable about the island and pointed a lot of things out that we would have missed had we visited the island by ourselves. St. John is just beautiful! (The vast majority of St. John is a national park with hiking trails that you can visit on your own if you wish.) He also provided a great deal of historical information on the island too.

The excursion also included a visit to Honeymoon Bay. A spectacular beach that the Eco Hike group (about 25 people from the Magic) had practically all to ourselves.

The excursion included a water taxi ride on the Island Girl from St. Thomas to St. John. It probably took 20-25 minutes to get to St. John and was a bit rough in some spots but we enjoyed this part of the excursion too. There was a guide on the taxi that also pointed out some local spots of interest on the island's coast (Madonna's home, Michael Jordanís three homes, etc.) and talked about the history of the island.

All in all, I would rate this excursion highly and definitely recommend it.

Last month we also visited Paradise Point. It's a short cable car ride to a ridge overlooking the port. They have some bird shows, shops, and a cafe at the summit. The views are spectacular from there and it was a great place to grab a cool drink (they have a legendary drink called the Bushwhacker, *very* yummy!) and a snack after the Eco Hike.

I'm not too sure what we'll plan on doing this time around. We'll have to look over the excursions again and see if anything sticks out at us.

Ahhh, the famous Konk Coolers! Yes, they are very tasty indeed! And most appropriate for a birthday! ::yes:: Thankfully you can get them at any bar on the ship too on any day. So, you can start the birthday celebration early once you board! :teeth:

I think our thread will become more active as the sailing approaches. Until then, we'll just have to keep it alive! :D

Now, off to bed for me. I need to recover from Disney. :)

Jason,

The golf could have been better, but the beer was pretty darn good. Maybe could've had an impact on the golf. Then the wife had me out in the yard working for the rest of the day. She even had me mow my neighbor's lawn, while they are in Florida (WDW no less - their daughter is in a band that marched in the daytime parade yesterday). I think I got the raw end of that deal. At least I have the trip to Florida in three weeks and the cruise to look forward to.

I wish I could sleep that late. They say you need less sleep as you get older, and I'm starting to believe them. I am usually up before 6:00 a.m. I don't know if it's my daughter or the age, but I can't remember the last time I slept that late.

I gotta get back to work, so we'll chat later.

Travis and I might also check out the casinos in San Juan. Haven't really looked into them too much or collected much information on them but anything would really work for us. The first, and only, times that I've ever gambled have been during our visits to St. Maarten. We just play the slots although Travis has wanted to play a hand or two of 21.

The casinos in St. Maarten are nothing compared to Las Vegas from what I hear but they're a fun distraction for us. On our first visit we lost $25 and on our second probably an equal amount. But, it was entertaining! :)

Tony--

Hmmm... I'm not too sure about that deal about you doing your neighbors lawn while they're at WDW. Seems very suspicious to me! ;)

Cool to hear that you'll be here in a few weeks though. Is it a family trip to WDW or a different location?

As far as sleep goes, Iím very envious of my cats. Eighteen to twenty-one hours per days would seem to suit me fine. Well, except when Iím on vacation!

hello to all the people i have not said hello too. we also did the casinos in st maartin and my husband was lucky. im not sure if we will do an excursion again in st thomas although we really liked the champagne catamaran. it would be nice to just shop and relax. Scrappy is somewhere here and she has given me lots of advice on San Juan!!!!

I'm back. Have to work from time to time. What a bummer! Our trip down is the 4th of July week. My dad retired to the Ocala area last year, so we will be visiting with him. We are going to Orlando and Tampa Bay in the middle of the week. Then back to Ocala to finish the week. If we are lucky, we will be able to make a side visit to WDW, but that is unsure at this point.

Jason, I had been checking out the Paradise Point options. That sounds right up our alley, but it's nice to know from someone who has been. The Eco hike does sound interesting, but I'm afraid it might be a bit much for my 8-yr old. Although she was born in the South, my job transferred me north to the Chicago area when she was two months old. She might as well be a Northener. She wants me to turn on the air conditioning when the temperatures climb above 70. How much hiking was involved? If it is alot, then we might have to forego that excursion until she's a bit older and can handle the hike with the HEAT.

Your idea of gambling sounds like mine. I'm a controller, so I know the odds. My wife is the one in our family who likes to gamble (especially slots). I didn't know there was a casino in San Juan, so now I'm wondering if I should tell her.

I'll keep checking in periodically, so take care all. 81 days left til the cruise!!! 74 days for Jason and Travis!!!

I haven't posted here in quite awhile. I've been waiting for WDW resort discounts for our pre and post-cruise stays. Yeah, I'm cheap. lol

We got great 40% off active duty military discounts and I just made the reservations at the Pop Century. Since its new and we've never been thought we'd check it out, especially at this excellent rate.

Jason, we really appreciate you putting up the San Juan excursion information. We've been reviewing that and seeing what we like.

Excitedly waiting for our cruise!

Hi all--

I'm in the process of finishing up the Disney Magic September 4th Cruise Matrix for the site. Once I have it complete I'll upload it onto the site at ***************** and it will be available to download in PDF format. I finished the August 28th one just yesterday so if you want to check that out to see what it will look like, please feel free.

Paul--

Glad you found the excursion material useful. We actually have it thanks to TonyF! I believe he received it from his travel agent and was kind enough to e-mail it to me so that it could go up on the site.

Great news about the savings at Pop Century! Travis and I want to stay there at some point too. A lot of people have had mixed reviews about the appearance of the resort but I actually think it looks pretty cool and is a neat theme.

Let us know what you and Kaye decide about the excursions in San Juan. We may end up on the same. :)

Tony--

Don't you just hate that about work?! I mean, they really expect one to work! :teeth: Hope the plans to visit WDW while you guys are down here work out.

The Eco Hike was actually very mild. We had a couple with a 5-6 year old on the cruise last time and they too were on the Eco Hike. The child had no problem with the activity level and actually seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. It was warm during the hike but the guide kept to a trail that was in the shade for the most part.

One interesting thing that he pointed out was the differences between the Westward and Leeward sides of the island. One side (I forget which, :( ) actually stays several degrees cooler than the other and has much more dense foliage and more moisture than the other. And, the neat thing, was that you really could feel the difference once you crossed over the ridge to the other side of the island.

The hike really wasn't a steep climb either. The path was well marked and very clear and only had a gradual climb and decline. Nothing too intense.

Paradise Point is very nice and the Bushwacker is a must-try. (Don't forget to print out your $1.00 off coupons from the Paradise Point site. It's listed on *****************.)

Amy--

We didn't try the catamaran in St. Thomas but we did the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St. Maarten and loved it. What a great time and they served champagne to boot! :hyper:

Guess they must either have different guides or use different companies for the excursion then because we had two males.

I'm really surprised to hear you had problems with mosquitoes. I guess we lucked out. I'm a TOTAL mosquito magnet and they eat me alive. I can't even sit out on our back porch at dusk without coming inside with upteen bites. But, I don't recall one during the Eco Hike. Guess I should be very thankful for that! ::yes::

Good morning all,

Jason, the cruise matrix for the August 28th cruise is way cool!!! It looks great!!! I can't wait for the matrix for our cruise. You are making it too easy planning for the night to dine at Palo. Thanks.

It doesn't look like the Eco hike will be as bad as I originally thought. I printed out your comments for my wife to look at. We'll see what she thinks. Usually it's whatever my daughter and I decide. My wife doesn't want to decide a thing  (she's on vacation).

I'll make sure to bring along some bug spray for the trip. Thanks for the heads up Windermere. We know a bit about mosquitoes up here. Our house butts up to some preserved wetlands. I have contemplated sending my state representatives a letter requesting that they make the mosquito the state bird.

The Bushwacker looks like a definite DO NOT MISS in my book.

Jason,

The cruise matrix is a godsend. What would we do without you? I'll just have to do the ressie rush, and then it will be clear sailing.

I am a bit scared of the Eco hike pictures you are going to post.:earseek: I saw a picture of the digital camera you were looking at on another thread. If that is your upgrade camera, your camera must have been bigger than a suitcase. Kidding aside, I look forward to viewing the pictures. I'm sure they are awesome.

I'm also looking to get a new digital camera before the cruise, so I've been viewing that thread quite regularly. I just started looking a couple of weeks ago. I'm the type of person that researches things to death before I even walk in a store, so I still have a bit of work. I have time, so I am in no hurry. I am a bit confused by the SLR or not, difference? I plan to take a look at that this weekend.

Wildcatmickey, I am with you. Just waiting for September to get here. Here's to hoping that we all have an enjoyable summer, and that our cruise will just be the icing on the cake.

Oh, you must mean that new digital camera. The most advanced out on the market so far. :) Yeah, it is tough to carry around but it came with a handy neck strap. :teeth:

I actually bought my very first digital camera last December. It's a very basic, point-and-shoot, Nikon Coolpix 2200. It's only a 2 mega-pixel but I wanted it so that I could take pictures and post them on the web easily. As you can see from the pictures above, even a 2 MP camera can do that quite well. I've also had some standard sized prints made from the camera and they turned out quite nice too.

But, I am used to the adaptability and adjustable features of an SLR. I have a 35mm SLR but I would love a digital.

SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex camera. Basically, when you look through the view-finder of a camera there are two options. In SLRs, the image that you are seeing through the viewfinder is actually the same image that is going through the lens of the camera. Most point-and-shoot cameras have a "viewfinder" that does not use the actual camera lens to frame the picture. So, when you line up a shot with an SLR, what you see is what you get in the final picture. When you use a camera with a separate viewfinder, the final image is always going to be off a little bit.

Probably the biggest advantages to an SLR include the fact that the lenses are separate from the camera body so you can interchange any number of them and the fact that they are so adjustable. You can have the camera automatically set settings such as shutter speed, exposure, lens aperture, etc. or you can manual set them yourself. Most point-and-shoots may offer some manual configuration of settings but not to the extent of an SLR. And, even though point-and-shoots can do a very good job of determining the correct settings, often they canít and they yield less than favorable pictures.

TonyF

Your pictures look fantastic Jason.:D It looks like you and Travis had a great time along with a beautiful day for a hike.

It's probably a good thing that you got a neck strap for that camera. You don't look like a big guy, so you must've carried it well. I would have thought you would have been stooped over like a 90-yr old grandma after toting that contraption around. Maybe you should get an additional accessory for it, say a push cart.:teeth: Easier on the back, you know.

Thanks for the info on SLR's. You definitely know quite a bit more than I do. It saved me time researching on the web. I've just started looking, but it sounds like an SLR digital will be the better choice for the long-term.

We plan on cruising Disney again at the same time during 2005, just with more members of the family. We are the guinea pigs on this September cruise. I could think of worse things to try out. I'm sure we will have a great time. A new digital SLR camera will show the rest of the family what they have to look forward to. More likely make them jealous that they made us go alone this time around.:teeth:

It's not that much longer before we can line up the excursions. I'm going to have to start narrowing down my list. The only for sure at this point is the Paradise Point visit (with the mandatory Bushwacker, of course). I'm hopeful that your pictures of the Eco hike will convince my wife to give it a go. Thanks for posting them.

Anyone mind if I join this party? This will be our third DC.

Our party will consist of me, dw, dd 17, dd 11, dd 9. Disney Grandma and Grandpa (from California) will also be with us.

We went on our first DC in 2002. DCL was smart/kind enough to seat us at dinner with a cool family from Georgia. They also have three dd's. Their oldest and middle dd's match age with our middle and youngest dd's. We all became fast friends (our oldest and their youngest included - I have many pictures of them together) and now we do the yearly reunion on the magic.

This will be our first Eastern - I'm a bit apprehensive - there was so much to do on the western - I'm not sure about that extra day on the Magic.

Anyway we're all excited and glad to be aboard.:D

Hello and welcome Jeff!

Glad to see that you're sailing on the September 4th Cruise and that you found our little thread on the Dis Boards.

We've all been attempting to jump start this thread of late and are more than happy to have help in that department.

We also have created a Disney Magic September 4th Cruise List at ***************** if you want to check it out. Also feel free to send in your family's info if you like.

As far as the extra day at sea, that's something that we've really come to enjoy on the Eastern. DCL does a great job of loading up on the activities on sea days, as I'm sure you've noticed on the Western, and it gives you more time to enjoy the beautiful ship.

If you haven't had a chance to check out Jason's web site at **********************, you should take a moment to do so. Not only does it contain a list of your fellow cruisers, it also contains the download for the official DCL San Juan and CC excursions as well as a cruise matrix for planning those Palo meals and spa treatments. Welcome aboard again, and hopefully we'll be able to meet up sometime during the cruise!

Jeff--

I believe that only way to get your dining rotation prior to check-in is by booking either the Romantic Escape at Sea package or by booking at the concierge level. Either of these two options let you select a specific rotation, I think. Other than that, you pretty much have to wait until check-in.

Hello everyone! We are in the process of switching our reservation to the Sept 4 - 11 Eastern cruise! :teeth: We were originally scheduled for the Thanksgiving Western, but the flight prices were just too much for us. I was able to secure really inexpensive flight arrangements from our home airport (15 min. away) for September (not to mention this cruise will be about $1000 less expensive than cruising for Thanksgiving) so here we are! :wave2:

We'll be flying in the night before the cruise, staying at the Sheraton Suites near the airport (gotta love those Starwood points!) and using Disney transfers to and from Port.

I can't wait to meet everyone here and I think we'll have an awesome time!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A little bit about us:
Cruising will be me (Melody, 29) and dear hubby (EB, 32). It will be my 4th Disney cruise and his 3rd Disney cruise...both our second Magic cruises. Our first cruise was the Christmas Eastern for our honeymoon in 2001 and we are really looking forward to returning to St. Thomas and St. John as that was our favorite port of call.

As of now we have late dinner seating. We'll be celebrating (about a month early) our 3rd wedding anniversary. We are hoping (once all is secure) that we will be able to add on the REAS package. After a few Disney cruises, we have yet to eat at Palo! I will also be getting the Rainforest weekly pass because I love sitting in the heat -- hubby isn't too fond of it, though! He really wants a pedicure so we'll have to schedule that as well. We would also like to see if we could get into Palo brunch. We can't wait!

Some excursions we're hoping to secure are:

-->St. Thomas: 5 Star St. Thomas Snorkel and Beach Adventure (we did the Champagne Catamaran last time and loved it!)

--> San Juan: Seven Seas Snorkeling Adventure

--> Castaway Cay: We'll do the day-long snorkel and float rental and try to be as lazy as possible at Serenity Bay.

I guess that's it for now. I'm going to start back on page one of this cruise thread later today....I started on page 8 and read to this point so far.

That countdown is starting to go much quicker! :) Went out last night and bought a guide to Eastern and Southern Caribbean Ports to try to finalize our plans for excursions (if any). I think we are going to try to do the Bacardi Rum Factory Tour that also has a tour of Old San Juan. Though I think we could do it on our own, it seems like the excursion might be the better option for us as DW has bad ankles and might be challenged by some of the walking we would have to do on our own with the uneven surfaces and elevation changes the guidebooks all talk about. Plus, we can do more of Old San Juan on our own after the excursion if we want. We are really undecided about whether to go to St. John or just hang around St. Thomas. I think we will probably wait to make that decision until we get on ship. Can't wait to meet our fellow DIS'ers on ship. Have we thought about where and when we might want to meet? The last cruise we went on we all met after the evacuation drill up on Deck 10 overlooking the Sailaway Party. We didn't meet long (because many had the early seating for dinner) but it was nice to put faces with names so that we could talk more as we ran across each other during the week.

Hello all!

Of course we simply must have a DIS meet once we board the Magic. It wouldn't be a cruise without one! :D

I'm partial but I think a great time/location for such meets is on the first day, right after the lifeboat drill in the Promenade Lounge. As Melody mentioned, the first day is busy but I find that you have a good 20-25 minutes between the lifeboat drill and the Sail Away Celebration for a meet. Plus, groups can always wonder up to the party together and continue the meet there.

But, were up for anything! If we have lots of suggestions we compile them and place a poll on ***************** so that everyone can give their input.

Mike--

I kind of like your idea of doing the rum tour and Old San Juan on your own. On previous visits to ports we've often done the "make your own excursion" thing and just explored.

DH and I are usually early in the line so we head to eat and Palo's ressie. Sometimes we hit the spa for ressies as well but we are very flexible about those times. At that point we usually head for the PL for a 'welcome to vacation' bottle of Fairytale. Also makes the drill a little less boring after 10 times.

Is everyone else going to be busy before the drill? If we're only talking 20 minutes or so - this might be possible.

No kids here. Kids are a fine instituton as long as they can go home with their mom and dad at night. To old to start having kids now. We plan on having fun and relaxing in the RAINFOREST.

amy,

hope ya'll have a lot of fun pre-kids, we've never experienced that sensation, but i understand that those without kids have loads of fun on dcl even with a boatload of kids around.

as far as refrigerators go, there is one in the stateroom but it will not cool down drinks, but more or less keeps cold things cool. i have seen discussions on the board that mention bringing softside coolers and requesting ice from steward to make drinks cold, i guess we'll try this out this time, as we weren't real happy with the performance of the fridge in the room.

Out of curiosity, is anyone traveling from MCO to Port and Port to MCO for the cruise and interested in going in on private transportation (such as Happy Limo, FL Tours, etc.) and saving money with us? It is just hubby and I, so getting a town car or limo would not be money saving for us, but if we could get at least two more people to go in on this with us, it would be a money saver for all over the DCL transfers.

Is anyone interested? If so, PM me or send me an email to cruisindisney@aol.com.

We're not going from MCO to Port and back.

But, we are using a towncar service for MCO to WDW resort, WDW resort to Port, Port to WDW resort .... then WDW resort to MCO. Oh man that looks like a lot! lol

Oh well, its been almost two years since I've been to WDW so figured it was worth combining it with the cruise.

We prefer the towncar service because its much more predictable and makes for wiser use of our time even though there are only two of us. It costs us more in terms of dollars, but allows us to make more efficient use of our time.

Sorry, we can't be of help either Melody! We just drive to the port from home on the morning of sailing.

Of course, this time we'll already be on the ship lounging out on deck somewhere and won't have to worry about travel! :hyper:

Has anyone else not yet received their shore excursion information? Given that the sixty day mark is this coming Tuesday (and Monday is a postal holiday), I am getting antsy!

I Don't know that I'm worried about Shore Excursions selling out. I don't see any of them being that popular. Am I wrong previous Eastern Cruisers? If so, which are most popular?

The only excursions I'd be worried about getting are parasailing at CC and any of the Dolphin excursions.

I'm pretty sure you can just call the excursion desk on that 60-day mark without needing any paperwork from DCL. That's what I've always done. You can get the information directly on disneycruise.com.

What excursions are you all thinking about? We think we're going to try for:

SAN JUAN: Kayak & Snorkel Eco-Adventure OR Seven Seas Snorkeling Beach Adventure

ST. THOMAS: 5-star St. Thomas Snorkel and Beach Adventure OR St. John Eco Hike

CASTAWAY CAY: We'll do the all-day rentals.

we havent gotten any paperwork but we just paid off our cruise a few days ago

Doctor P

I wasn't worried about having the info to call, actually. I'm just eager to get our excursion booked and to get the stuff in the mail (I love getting mail! :)) so that there is tangible evidence that things are getting closer. I did call DCL and they were able to confirm that they showed we were paid in full. They said that if the information didn't come, just take it off the website and call in.

We are going to do the Rum Factory/Old San Juan combination tour in San Juan and are not planning on booking anything in St. Thomas or Castaway Cay. I think we will probably rent bikes on CC, but based on the last cruise we went on there was no problem doing that once we got to CC. I enjoyed snorkeling at CC, but I don't think I got my money's worth out of the rental so I will probably pass on that this time and just enjoy other aspects of the island. Since we will not have DD with us this time, we will probably at least spend a little time at the Adult Beach to check it out.

DCL just announced active duty military discounts for our cruise. It would be so worthwhile re-booking with that discount had we not originally booked onboard and gotten the $200 onboard credit. Shucks. ... DCL isn't so silly as to let us combine two good deals there. I only wish! lol

We haven't made any of our REAS reservations either. Our TA told us to call 45-30 days out. So I think I'll wait until then.

Yes, we are also celebrating our 3-year wedding anniversary! We were married October 27, 2001 (I actually have a few photos at: http://community.webshots.com/album/119311595PNltwS/2 )

Our REAS ressies were made 2 months ago and I didn't get the massage time I wanted. So you might go ahead and make yours now. Call Debbie with DCL she will take care of you now others will not take the ressies now.

Melody--

Travis and I still haven't made a final decision as to what excursions we want to do. Although, we were talking last night and I think we both want to visit the rain forest in some form.

But, then again, the rum factory is calling our name! :)

Well, we still didn't get our excursion documents, but I was able to call and reserve our excursions this morning (found out that our reservation was actually made through the group department, which might account for the document delay). We booked the combo Bacardi Rum Distillery/Old San Juan tour and I also booked the Castaway Cay Getaway Package for myself (advice from Passporter was to book this early since it tends to sell out--not sure I want to do this this time but DW was interested in a float rental which was the thing in the package I didn't use last time so I thought I might book it and then snorkel while she floated :). May cancel the CC package in favor of separate bike and float rentals (which seemed to be abundantly available on a walk up basis last time we were at CC). We're within 60 days now!!!!!

Hi everyone! Remember me (from back on page 8..lol)? :teeth:

We paid in full this morning! :)

Haven't received any documents/info yet, might be the W last name thing, I'm not sure?

Do the documents tell you what your dinner rotation is, or is that something you find out about on boarding? This is our first cruise, and I'm still somewhat confused about the details. :o

All I know about cruising comes from watching Titanic. I'll be easily recognizable as the only woman wearing water wings 24/7! :p  ;)

Sounds like quite a few of us are interested in the Bacardi tour! ::yes::
