We're very happy with the compensation package. We've cancelled our flight and are driving from Philadelphia leaving tonight. We can stay with my father in North Carolina tonight and then cautiously make our way near Florida. I'm praying for all in Florida that it's not as bad as it sounds. We'll see everyone on board who decides to make the trip on Monday!::MinnieMo

Gonna miss you Big Kahuna - and those new glasses you are going to get!!!!
Opting to cruise another time - on hold right now with TA.
Let me say that All Seasons is definitely ON TOP OF THINGS~ very satisfied with them and how they are handling everything! But I will miss everyone - so hugs to all!

You need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I hope and pray all are safe and nobody gets hurt. You should pray too.

I feel this is harsh also. I don't think anyone here isn't thinking of people that are in it's path. This is a cruise message board. People also ahve to know what to do about thier vacations, and they have the right to be disappointed. That doesn't mean they don't care about the people in FL.
I'm disappointed, I also have a house in Ft. Myers and a condo in Miami. I still have the right to be disappointed about the cruise. which doesn't make me less concerned about anyone's safety.
BTW, most of the people that die in hurricanes did something stupid like go out in it or didn't evacuate.

Sorry, I can't see that. What did you say? New lasses? Don't know if my wife will like that. lol
I'll definitely miss seeing you Rae, and Tom and Michael. Will also miss seeing the other's that decide to change or can't make it Monday. I sure hope we do make it!
I would probably cancel if it weren't for seeing my dear wife. I miss her too much and just have to go that way irregardless of what DCL does.

As this is part of our vacation and not yours, Wes, I fail to see your point. NO ONE is making a big deal about this, except you and you aren't even involved with this cruise!!! Those of us who are cruising are concerned about the effect of the Hurricane, but we are also looking and talking about what we should or are doing about OUR vacation.
No one is being small minded about this. We just want to know what our options are and make sure that we aren't putting ourselves in harms way.

I'm sorry I said anything. Forget I posted the note. When people seem so obscessed with compensation by DCL for a meterological event outside their control I have a problem. Did it not dawn on people that THIS IS HURRICANE SEASON, folks. When, as an outsider to the thread, I came across all of this whining I felt compelled to put in my deep concerns. Henceforth, I will limit my involvement on this board to my own cruise and hopefully so will everybody here. Obviously, I need to reread the rules about contributing to this board. Wes:wave2:

Wow, hey Rae519......does this bring back any memories?? I am not part of your sailing folks but I WAS one of the cancelled Nov. 2002 Eastern sailings so let me give some honest advice.......IMHO......Get on your ship on Monday, beat Rae to the shrimp, get a BIG DRINK and pretend it's Satutday. DCL WILL go out of there way to make you happy.......when we did our "50% off sailing" the following year they know we were disappointed with them from the year before......I was our best of 3 sailing yet!!!
P.S......If anyone wants to cancell I'll sail Monday at 40% off and take your 25% off coupon........

Hey, my second favorite whiner! Hope all is well with you Lampie.
I cancelled so you can go in my place! I get enough cruises in that I don't need to take this one - yeah, they are making a nice offer, etc, etc, but I am getting a full refund (nothing else) and I'm okay with it!!!!

We really still wanted to make the 5-day cruise they rescheduled for Monday BUT, after speaking with Delta and trying to get a Sunday evening or Monday morning flight, they could not do it. They said Delta does not expect MCO to be operational until Monday afternoon. So we cancelled our cruise and got our 100% refund for fear our flight would not make it in time.
We are really disappointed that we will not be able to make it down there. We thought about driving, but were afraid of what we'd run into when we reached Florida on Sunday or Monday.

Melody --- We booked Delta out of ATL to MCO for Monday morning. But, that's a big difference than from where you are. Lots of Delta flights out of ATL to MCO .... in fact, i moved up my flight from here to ATL so I'm 2 hours earlier out of here and a direct flight ... savees me about 4 total hours. And I didn't even tick off the agent! lol
Heck ... I was laughing it up with the DCL agent. Talked a lot with her. She said its either laugh or start crying. She's in FL and had some really interesting stories. Told her I'm with her in spirit!

The Disney Cruise Site just posted that we will be taking a modified Western route. It also states that the four-day cruise will probably not visit Castaway Cay, but didn't say whether or not we will.
I am still so excited for this vacation!!!
My kids handled the changes well and are glad that we can stay home and "protect our house" during Frances.
Stay safe everyone.

Sstucush,
I am worried about the road conditions. Many people who are evacuating will be heading in the same direction as us.
We plan to leave VERY early on Monday morning, however, the Magic isn't expected to dock until 11:00 a.m. which is several hours later than usual.
I am going to try to find out what time we will be able to board and will post when I get any information.

Hi everybody,
I spoke with Disney tonight to let them know that I still want to cruise on Monday and take them up on their generous offers. I spoke with Megan, she was so sweet. Disney certainly has the right people answering the phones. They have all been so pleasant and reassuring....courteous. I'm sure this is a difficult time for them, yet they are patient and doing their best to take care of us. This will be my first Disney cruise. I can't imagine ever sailing with anyone other than Disney in the future. Their customer service shines.
We are driving down on Saturday, will make it a leisurely 2 day trip and hopefully not encounter too many problems with the weather in Georgia and Florida. I'm a little concerned about the drive, don't really know what to prepare for in Georgia and Florida. Only time will tell....I'm still praying.
GA Nurse, I too have the REAS package booked. Megan advised to check my reservations once I check in/board. She said that Debbie probably wont even be able to help, that she wont know what the schedule will be like due to all of the changes. I have Palo scheduled for Thursday night at 9:00 pm and the couples massage for Sunday. We'll miss the massage of course, but hopefully will be able to reschedule it for later in the week.
I'm starting to get excited again.....what a roller coaster.
Hugs to all,
Rachel

We can't seem to be able to book a flight to Orlando Airport. They are supposedly closed until noon on Monday and everything available Monday arrives is too late to make the ship. What a nightmare. Here we'd about decided to take the Monday sailing and now we can't seem to get there.
I was told we have until noon on Friday to make a decision. Cancel or take it.
If we reschedule are they letting us do it without a price differential? Are there no incentives at all for having to miss this cruise such as upgrade, % off future, etc?
I've been on the phone with the airlines all night and am about to scream.
Have fun those who are going. I'm still figuring it out. :(
I'm flying out of DFW and welcome any suggestions. Is MCO for sure closed on Sunday? What happens if I get a flight finally and then it is canceled later (Sunday or Monday) due to weather. I'm past the deadline at that point to make my 'decision.' What does Disney do then?
Augh!!!

DH and I checked in to OKW this evening for our scheduled 2 night stay. At this point we have been told that come Sat at 11 am we are out on our ear because there is 'no room at the inn'. Maybe the Orane County Public School shelters will let us in.
Have to call DCL in the morning again. Was on hold for over 40 minutes tonight to figure out some room arrangements and was told to csll back tomorrow. I think at this point I'll just be glad to have a shower come Monday.
Was offered the 40% and $200 but no mention of 25% off future cruise. Guess I'll need to bring that up tomorrow. That would be a nice discount on the 14 day repo east that we have scheduled.

Well....we are going to give the 5 day a shot. We were able to cancel our air (after they cancelled our flight in for Friday) and get a FULL refund, cancel our rental cars, cancel our Friday night VWL reservation (and get our points restored), cancel our Saturday night backup at the LBV Fairfield Inn, and get reservations for Saturday and Sunday in Tennessee and Georgia so that we can drive to the port. Going to be very interesting!

We are on United. They told me that the policy changes when the airport actually gets closed, especially with no firm time for reopening. So, they offered a full refund of the ticket which, after reflection, we ultimately took. I was, frankly, surprised, relieved, and pleased. Everyone I have talked with has been very helpful, and United has been good about contacting me to let me know that the flight got cancelled. They cancelled as of about 11:00 am (CDT) yesterday, I saw it on the website and got cracking. In the meantime, they called me to let me know we had been cancelled.

I believe hotels may be closed in the PC area. Worried about traffic, I called the Radisson thinking maybe we should get closer to PC on Sunday. I was told they are closed until Sept. 10. Depending on weather, we plan to start out early on Monday. What is usually a three hour drive may take much longer.
You will want to keep a close eye on the weather and maybe see how close to PC you can find a hotel reservation. Stay there Sunday night and make your way to port on Monday. Remember there will be many people making their way back to their homes after evacuating to the north.

It does look like all of the hotels near the port will be closed.
When I talked to Disney this morning, they said they probably would not open the port until 2:00 p.m.
We are on the Gulf Coast of Florida and are going to drive up leaving EARLY Monday Morning.
There are really no other options for us...so we are just going to hope for the best.

Well we've made our decision. We will NOT be on the Monday Cruise. We just can't get a flight. Plus, since the storm has slowed down, we are worried that it will still be messy there on Monday. We didn't want to take any chances.
So....we are REBOOKED on the September 18 cruise....the next time Disney sails the Eastern Carribean route (maybe)
We are dissapointed. This was celebrating our anniversary and our little 4 year old was sooo exicted. But at least we are only pushing it back 2 weeks. She can hold out 2 more weeks...and hopefully the parents can too. :)
Have fun gang..those that are going to be able to make it. It will be nice having a ship that isn't as full as normal. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Update: After over 3 hours of being on hold and waiting in line in the lobby - we have finally been guraenteed a room for Sat and Sun. Was thinking the best way to get to the port on Monday would be transfers. Might be something to think about for all of you driving in. Maybe park at a resort or one of the parks and take a DCL bus to the port? Can you do that?

All I have to say is: THANK YOU DELTA AIRLINES!
I just got off the phone with one of the nicest Delta ticket agents! EB and I have been agonizing and dreading the 19+ hour drive ahead of us, so I thought I'd give Delta a call again to see if there is anything they could do for us as far as possibly getting us into another airport. She was able to get us a flight into Fort Myers on Sunday morning. We will rent a car from Fort Myers airport and drive to the Sheraton in Orlando on Sunday evening. Then we'll drop our rental off at Cape Canaveral and BOARD THE MAGIC on Monday! :teeth:
After the cruise, we'll head to Disney for one night and fly home on Sunday afternoon.
I am a very happy person right now...can you tell??? :sunny:

Great for you!! Wave to me in Fort Myers! It should take you around 3 hours or so to Orlando. The airport is right by I-75, very easy. There are major traffic delays after Lakeland. Lots of construction. Patience.

Thank you Cheryl! Could you tell me the best route to take to Orlando? I was going to do a MapQuest for the directions, but what do you think would be best? MapQuest isn't always the most reliable.
Also, now they're saying the storm should still be in central FL during the day Sunday, I'm assuming there are hotels near Fort Myers? Do you think we'll be able to get some of the 3-hour drive in?
Being that you live in this area, what do you predict for us? Any insight you have would be so greatly appreciated as we're trying to anticipate everything we could think of.

Okay, directions: easy, take I-75 north t I-4 East. You will see I-75 when you exit the airport.
Hotels are all booked up here in Ft. Myers. Everyone that fleed from the East coast plus people that were devastated from Charley are using them. I would try & make it half way. Try getting a room in Bradenton, Sarasota or Brandon even Tampa.
I'm still keeping my eye out for the storm updates, they are saying we are going to get some Tropical force winds into the night and early Sunday but not sure because of the speed of the storm. I think Orlando is looking at Sunday afternoon. I'll check back or you can email me.

My TA (the wonderful, courteous, & prompt Tim Larison from MouseEars/CruisingCo.com) just got off the phone with DCL to update our arrival information and he found out a little bit more about our embarkation tomorrow:
From Tim
On Monday the Magic is now going to leave port at 10 pm. Embarkation is scheduled to start at 5 pm. The Disney agent I just talked to said they probably will start checking people in as early as 12 noon or so, but it doesn't make sense to get to the port too early since you can't get on the ship until 5 pm. The transfers from Disney World to the port are leaving at around 3 pm that day.
I hope you all find this information helpful!

Oh I'll definitely not risk our life or the lives or to be on the cruise. My hope is always that this weather is not too devasting and everyone nearby comes out ok. Then they can get back to normal soon.
Of course, that means they can get us on the ship Monday too! :D
My situation is kind of unique in a way. I'd have taken the Monday cruise if they'd just have prorated my fare for the fewer days. The onboard creidt and 25% off a future cruise isn't anything I'd turn though.
I've been looking at what future cruises we may want. And, if they'll lhave the onboard booking discounts available too. I'll take all the discounts I can get. lol

We will be driving UP from South Florida.
Hopefully, road conditions will be favorable. If not, we will cancel on Monday morning.
We have already told our daughters that we may not be able to take our cruise. They are taking it very well so far.
Unfortunately, we would probably need to wait another year to cruise if we cancel because my husband can only make vacation requests every so often. But...there are far worse things in life than a missed vacation.
I don't like to drive when the rain is only a sprinkle, so there is no way we would risk our safety in a downpour.
I am being very optimistic and look forward to meeting my fellow DIS Boarders.
Rae, I am sorry we won't be on the same cruise. Perhaps we will meet in the future.

The drive to Port would take about 4 to 4 1/2 hours on a regular day. If the roads were clear and the traffic OK, you would make it, but that seems really risky right now.

Melody,
Yes, that time is from Fort Myers.
The only problem with choosing any airport is that it is impossible to predict how the roads will be.
The roads from here to Orlando should be fairly clear. But...From Orlando to the Port could be a disaster with people returning to their homes.
I'm not sure what the roads will be like from Gainesville.
CNN is reporting that they expect the Orlando airport to open Monday.

We made it to Dalton, Georgia last night and are going to set out in about an hour to go south. Not sure if we will go to Valdosta, GA or Orlando as we have reservations at both places. It is really tough to make a decision as to where and when to fight through the storm, as it looks like we will have to fight through it in either case. It doesn't look any better today for flying into FL on Monday. We are going to have to officially withdraw ourselves from the cruise. After 3 flights being cancelled and this storm moving so slowly, we are not going to be able to make it to Florida on Monday in time for the cruise departure. In fact, I just found out earlier today that Carnival announced that their once 7-day turned 9-day cruise will now be a 10-day cruise because they are unable to dock at Port Canaveral until Tuesday. We feel that Disney may not be far behind in that decision. That was just another factor that made us come to this decision.
So on Wednesday the 8th, we'll resort back to our Plan B and spend 4 nights at the Wilderness Lodge. I'm sure flying into Florida will be better by that time. I'm just glad we decided on an alternative plan so we still have something to look forward to!
I hope everyone who is traveling to PC today has a very safe trip and a wonderful time on the Magic. I hope it works out for the best for everyone. I'm really going to miss meeting you all! Maybe some other Magical time!
All our best to you all always,

Not to "wet on the parade" but don't you think it's imprudent and risky for Disney to encourage us to try to make Monday's cruise with all the weather, traffic, and uncertainties we would be facing?
I am not trying to damper the spirits of those who are trying, just feel Disney would have taken the safer route in telling us all to reschedule at a later date with refunds and some incentives.
Yes, the 40% off, $200 room credit and 25% off next cruise sounds very tempting but.......

I talked to DCL about 1 hour ago. Embarkation is scheduled for 7pm and departure at 10pm. Of course that all depends on when the Port Authority can get out and assess the damage.
Found out that the DCL people are in a big, windowless warehouse structure about 1/2 mile from where I am at OKW.
I am getting a little stir-crazy being stuck in a hotel room now for more than 24 hours. Lots of hurricane coverage and Disney movies on the tellie. Am looking forward to getting out and having a warm meal. Nothing is open though. We were told to have food in our rooms for up to 30 hours.

I talked with DCL about 30 minutes ago and they assured me that we are still a go for tomorrow, and that their information is that the Port WILL be open. Still scheduled for 10 pm departure with check in and boarding late afternoon to give people a chance to get there. We actually made it to Orlando. We felt that the chances of getting to the cruise were better in crossing the storm today rather than weathering tonight and tomorrow's storms in Valdosta where we might see a reenergized storm. Frankly, the drive down was not anywhere near as bad as we expected. We had reservations to go back to last night's hotel, at a hotel in Valdosta, and at a hotel in Orlando (Intl. Drive area). It is eerily quiet in Orlando, but that made it much, much easier to get around. We will see what tomorrow brings!

Hi everybody........what a crazy couple of days!!!!!! We stayed Friday night in Warner Robins, GA. Today (Sunday) we drove to Lake City, FL. We encountered one heck of a rainstorm on the way down, I prayed all the way through it! We are at the Holiday Inn. I just called DCL, at 6:45pm, and per Tim, call back around 8:30ish pm. They are waiting on a decision from the "higher ups".
Guess we'll know more at 8:30ish. The only good news that I can think of right now is that we can follow the storm home, be behind it instead of in front of it. I don't even want to think about Ivan! UGH!
BTW, I've decided that I am never ever ever ever ever going to book a cruise during hurricane season. Never Ever!
Most of the restaurants and stores are closed in Lake City. Even the Wal-Mart closed at noon today. Just hoping we don't have tornadoes tonight. It's rainy (not bad) and pretty windy here.
I'll check in later,

Here is Disneys latest announcement - it is not good -
The Magic will now sail on Tuesday at 5pm. They will offer a 50% refund or we can reschedule and receive a full refund, but no discount on future sailings.
I am not sure what we are going to do at this point. The savings is being spent on hotels rooms and food. This is very discouraging. Why can't Disney make decisions like other cruise lines. They have known all day that the port is closed.
They are more concerned with getting us on that cruise to save some of their lost revenue, than our "pain and suffering" worrying and trying to get there.
The agent was also very rude and could careless. She said she had to move on and we needed to make a decision quick. I told her we had to discuss it. We do have 26 people.
Let me know if anyone hears different. I am very disappointed.

The September 11th, seven-night Western Caribbean sailing is still set to depart as scheduled from Port Canaveral.
Hi everybody,
I am now on Plan X (lol). Only plans y and z are left!
Will trip insurance help pay for our hotel rooms and food since this is a trip interruption?
And then, there is still Ivan to consider. Geesh!

Ga_friend,
Where are you and your family at tonight? Are you in Valdosta?
We are in Lake City, just south of Valdosta. Our lights keep flickering and we have zero hotel options for tomorrow night.

Hi Rachelizabeth: I'm talking to GA FRIEND on the phone right now. I am responding for her. She says:
"We are in Valdosta. Exit 18. Everything is fine here right now. It's not raining or anything. If you want to travel back up this way, we can probably get you a hotel room for tomorrow night. It's a brand-new Sleep Inn just off the expressway. What are y'all experiencing weather-wise right now? Are you still going to cruise on Tuesday?"

We are having a pretty windy night. It's raining, but not too bad.
I'm on the waiting list here at the Holiday Inn for tomorrow night.
I'm not sure about the Tuesday sailing. Hubby says yes. I think he's nuts.
What are ya'll deciding about the Tuesday cruise?

Rachel - I am working with TII (insurance co.) right now. SAVE all your receipts and keep excellent records when you file because that's a priority in getting a successful claim. I paid $171 for my insurance and will be getting our airfare and one night's lodging reimbursement.
Hope the rest of you have a very safe trip down and a great cruise!

Rachel -
We are cruising on Tuesday. Against my better judgment, probably :) (The name Ivan keeps coming to mind.)
I did call back and got a very nice person. He explained to me, again, what is going on. I am thinking, probably like everyone else who has come this far - why go home. I only came from Atlanta and I am still close enough to go home. I do feel for those of you who travelled a long distance. I can only imagine the frustration, being so far from home. Is this your first Disney Cruise?
The Country Inn and Suites in Orlando at Lake Buena Vista has availability with an internet rate of $55. The website is www.countryinns.com. They are nice hotels and have a great breakfast. this one is right by Downtown Disney.
The weather is still pretty calm here. We must be just outside the band that is hitting ya'll.
I hope ya'll can join us on the cruise. I am beginning to wonder if anyone will be on the cruise. We heard from some friends on the Wonder and it has been a very rough cruise. (The waters, that is.) I hope we have calm waters.
Stay safe!

Well, we are scheduled to fly down to MCO tomorrow at 11:00a.m., arriving at 12:27p.m. I probably expect that to be delayed a bit. MCO says they are able to, and will, re-open by noon on Tuesday, 9/6/04.
I have a confimred reservation for Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter for 9/6/04. We shall see how it goes getting from MCO to WDW.

My dd7 and I decided we are still going to go on the now 4 night cruise to Cozumel. While it doesn't thrill me, the refund will certainly help pay for the next cruise (in addition to the extra 25% off). So, with Ivan staying out of our way, we can hopefully all finally meet on Tuesday evening! Does anyone have any suggestions on a meeting place and time?

I am very, very disappointed to report that we cancelled. This has been a heck of a four days or so. We just simply cannot risk not getting back on time on Saturday, and Hurricane Ivan just does not look good in terms of its influence on this cruise. Also, we went to Cozumel on our cruise last year and therefore that was not an extra draw for us. Hope that all who go enjoy themselves. I also hope, though I am not optimistic, that we will be able to cruise again some time in the future. This was a peculiar circumstance that allowed us to make this reservation, one that will likely never happen again.

Dr P - I am so sad you came so far and you aren't going to be able to join us. Do you think Ivan is going to make for rough waters on this cruise?
At this point I am just tired if being stressed and having to make decisions. Just get me on the boat, with calm waters, and a nice fruity drink!
Should we take another roll call on who is still going?

Well, we're officially out. I cancelled a little while ago. Since we're driving, leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale and returning to PC was a problem we didn't want to deal with. Our kids are spoiled with 3 hour drives to PC! Also, since we live in Florida, we're worried about Ivan making a beeline for our home. We were very fortunate through Charley and Frances. Didn't want to push our luck.
I wish everyone continuing the journey the very best!!!

We are at Port Orleans French Quarter right now. Booked through Travelocity last night when I found out the cruise would not leave until 9/7/04 and per my TA DCL will credit my room cost back to my credit card.
No major problems once at MCO other than it took the pilot threem attempts to make a landing. Something about swirling down pours of rain making the runway unlandable each time.
We are leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale and need to be in the lobby by 9:00a.m. per a voiemail message we received in our room from DCL. They advised snacks will be provide to us on the way down. That is nice.
We spent the day today at Downtown Disney and it was very busy there. Everything at Port Orleans is great. We have a great room in Building #4.
We shall see how it all goes!

Well, we made that ever tough decision today. We have cancelled. After learning about Port Everglades, it was just too much.....I'm mentally and emotionally exhausted.
We will head towards home once the weather is better. For now, we are at the Holiday Inn, watching the torrential downpours. There is a 9:30 curfew here.
For all of you that are travelling on, have fun for me. I will miss meeting all of you....we've been through an interesting week together. Tuesday is my birthday, it will be hard heading home, knowing that I was suppose to be in St Thomas/John on my birthday :( I really can't complain though, this has been an adventure. Not many of my friends/family can say they have been through a hurricane.
OK, enough of my whining!! It's time to get over it and move on!
We'll book another cruise, but as I said before, never never never never never never never ever during hurricane season!
Hugs to all,

I double checked my voicemail and they said they said 9:30a.m., .. i like to be early though . lol
I was just listening to the news. They are saying that most ships going into port in Ft. Lauderdale & Maimi will have to be delayed because ships importing gas & food will have first priority.
I wonder when the cruise shps will be let in if they aren't already in port.

Well, after a 3.5 hour bus ride from WDW Port Orleans French Quarter resort to Ft. Lauderdale we made it to a very long line to check-in for the Magic at Port Everglades. It was a manual check-in where they gave us a boarding pass and our KTTW card. I'm sure there were some serious mixups as I did see a family crying and quite upset at check-in walking away. I feel for that. It took us about 45 minutes to get checked in. Only Topsiders on deck 9 was open for the bufffet.
We are not exiting Port Everglades and started out abotu 9:00p.m. The safety drill was postponed until tomorrow morning at 10:45a.m. ...... at this time anyway.
Had a strange visit by Guest Services to our room asking my name. They said the system showed no one in our room. Stranged because all our bags were delivered and so were the messages about our $200 onboard credit and returning cruisers cocktail meeting.
Finding ourselves quite disoriented preparing for one thing, but getting another. We got to the port so late via DCL transnsportation all of Palo was booked and we are on a waiting list. We totally missed making an appointment for my wife's hair braiding as we were trying to re-coupe from the bus ride and long check-in it slipped our minds. Oh well, we are cruising! lol
Met Jason and Travis in the Cove Cafe. Great fellas! Of course I talk everyone's ears off if given half the chance.
We're too arrive at Cozumel tomorrow at 7:00p.m. and leave teh following evening.
Everyone take care!

This is actually Doctor P's wife and I wanted to wish you guys a great sail. Sorry we couldn't make it but because I have a daughter at home and no one after this weekend to stay with her our only option was to cancel with the uncertainty about Ivan (on Sunday evening it looked very questionable that it could affect the ship getting around Florida on Friday) and we couldn't risk not getting home on Sunday (and because we ended up driving we needed to leave on Sat). BUT...we spent a nice two days at WDW, got to stay at BCV which we had one night booked there next Sat anyway, got to see Wishes which we were bummed about not being able to see last Friday due to the hurricane, got to have a very nice up front spot to see Illumi which we've seen many times but it was a nice late anniversary night out. We did get into Epcot free on the International Gateway side on Monday morning and again in the evening - after a nice walk from BCV through Boardwalk area to Epcot. Got to do some great shopping at DTD on Monday and got to eat at Cape May and Ohana - both which we had not eaten at yet. So all in all we made what was suppose to be an absolutely awesome cruise, into a nice vacation - and our 5 year wedding anniversary.
Everyone stay safe and hopefully we'll meet up sometime...

Hello out there to anyone else, besides me, "left behind" as a result of Hurricane Frances...
I'm wondering if any of you are considering contacting DCL in the hopes that they would consider offering us a 25% disc. on our rescheduled cruise. My TA suggested I did that since our low fares will not be honored.
What do you think? I am definitely going to contact them. However, the more people who take the time to make the request, the better the chances of getting something getting another incentive to cruise with them in the future.
I hope everyone was able to have a great & fun week in spite of not being able to go on the cruise. You gotta believe that things always happen for the best...

with this entire mess....especially DCL, who promised to call my TA with updates, but never did...and my TA, who did not care enough, or know enough, to update me....looks like, from the posts here, that I will be booking all future cruises with Chuck Maida and his staff at All Seasons....
I elected, as some of you also did, to take a full refund....
As I was canceling, I received the rhetoric from the DCL rep..."you mean you are going to not take advantage of this spectacular deal"?....I was polite, but told her " 1st of all, I've sailed 6 times, so I know what these cruises cost. I book all my cruises using FL Resident discount, and refunding me 50% on a 4 day(if that?prob only 3.5 days) sailing to 1 port, on a packed ship, is an only slightly better deal than I usually get for a 4 day....2nd, the $200.00 stateroom credit is nothing great, and given to everyone who books a future cruise while onboard, big deal...and 3rd, 25% savings on future cruise is off DCL's inflated pricing, not AllSeas, or my TA....again, I usually get FL Res pricing"...
Overall, if it wasnt for the bus ride(the last straw), we may have "gone for it" anyway....
and one other thing....the DCL rep stated that it may be 30 days until I see my full refund credited...Call me cynical, but when I paid for the cruise on my debit card, that charge was posted "lickity split"....real nice...

Scrappy520 and Alexandrew
I agree with the both of you on this entire matter. I elected also to take the full refund, after changing flights 3 different times only to have them cancelled. I do plan on writing to the president of DCL and let him know how unorginzed DCL reps seemed to be through this entire time. I realized DCL did not control the weather or FRANCES but not to keep in contact with their passengers is unacceptable. I feel DCL could have handled this in a much better way.
alexandrew
09-09-2004, 07:53 PM

I absolutely agree with both of you. Communication to us was very poor. Heck, we weren't even told that we'd definitely get our refund - still haven't been contacted about that yet after they told us they'd call us back as soon as she brought the info up. I'm glad they treated the people on the ship great, but I just wish they would have also thought to treat those of us that were trying to make it to our cruise great as well, well at least better than we were treated. I know they had a lot to do but when there are very few hotel rooms available in Orlando, and a hard time booking any at WDW, they could have given us some more info then they did and helped us out a bit too.
But, also as you two have stated, we can't stay made at DCL. We will cruise again I'm sure. This just happened to be a fluke that we were able to make these arrangements due to it being our anniversary because normally it's very hard for us to take a vacation at this time of year. AND this is a very rare hurricane year, so for people to tell us "You should have known this was a possibility because it's hurricane season" is a bunch of crap. What, Frances was the 6th hurricane of the season that was only 4 weeks old and #7 is in the lurking - yeah.
alexandrew
09-09-2004, 09:25 PM
I change my mind....Cruise04 just reminded me of the so called "confirmation call" regarding my refund that DCL was supposed to make to me....I forgot about that, so I called DCL inquiring as to when I may receive my funds back....I was connected to a supervisor, who confirmed that it will take "2 billing cycles"(60 days!!!???) for the refund to appear....Why is that, since the cruise fare was billed to my debit card the next business day after booking with my TA?
I've had it ...between the promises of update calls, as well as the arrogance of this supervisor who informed me of this information and making excuses as to why I received no calls....DCL can kiss my ***, and I mean that in the kindest way possible....
I will take my frequent business over to RCCL's big, beautiful Voyager class ships, as well as tell all my friends, family, co-workers, and customers about how DCL treated me....
and that, my friends, is business 101...treat a customer right and you have loyalty forever....screw up and not fix it right, and the "screwee" will tell everyone in his sphere of influence how he was wronged....
gottaluvdisney
09-09-2004, 10:54 PM
I used to work for a credit card company and it is normal that credits take longer than debits. A credit to your credit card should take no longer than 10 days.
They say two billing cycles, because it depends on when your credit card statements are cut and sent to you.
So, for example, if they issue the credit and it is posted to your credit card on say Sept. 12, but your credit card statement was cut and sent on Sept. 11 when you get it in the mail, it will not show on that statement. Hence the term "two billing cycles"
I would give them 10 days and call you credit card company and verify that it is there. If not then call DCL back.
alexandrew
09-09-2004, 11:14 PM
I appreciate your info....I used my debit card, a visa check card, linked directly to my checking account ,vs a bank issued credit card...
Nevertheless, in light of this whole mess, I think DCL should, as they say, "find a way, make a way"to expedite my refund...I think they are really adding fuel to an already inflammatory situation...

I'm in a calculating, not mad, mood at this point. I really want to figure out what the whole bottom line is going to be for us with driving to Florida through Frances for an ultimately aborted cruise. I have a lot of patience with DCL and am being sure to consider that hindsight is 20/20, but I will be writing a carefully worded but strong and objective letter to DCL about the whole process we went through. The more I think about it, I think Dreams may also get a friendly letter thanking them for their help, but also encouraging them to help us plan a future cruise.

Heck, I never got a single phone call from DCL! I waited as long as I could, then called them.
I, too, was told it would take 2 months to get our $$$ back. So, we rebooked....got a lower catagory and still had to pay more $$$! It wasnt' alot of $$$, but that's not really the point.
I'm just disappointed with the lack of information and communication. Everytime I called DCL to tell them of cancelled flights, they'd encourage me to continue with the cruise. All they'd say is "The cruise is still going. You can get another flight! Delta has to get you down here!" After dealing with all this junk and getting no sleep because of the worrying, I cancelled. I just couldn't take it anymore.
This was to be my family's first cruise with DCL...it may be the last.

I check my VISA company daily, so when it hits I will post here so everyone can start looking. I plan to write my letter to the Presidant of DCL, copying customer service. Welcome back GaNurse. I agree with the majority. Even though in the end my particular family was treated fairly rebooking wise. I am VERY thankful for that...but most others were not. The communication was also poor. Finally, It was reckless of them to urge folks to enter an area to be evacuated, etc etc.

For those of you that cancelled - you probably made the right choice. All in all I don't think it was worth all the aggravation. I don't know if it was the stress of the whole situation or what - but this cruise did not live up to the past 3 Disney cruises we had taken. I was very disappointed and feel that I still need a vacation.
The characters were not as prevalant as in past and the one day we were in port - which I could do without and had no plans of leaving ship - the pools were closed. I was nice and sunny - compared to the rain we experienced the day before - and we couldn't swim. Not being able to go to Castaway Cay (not their fault) was also a big part I missed.
I don't know what to say - I am probably just finally letting myself collapse after all the stress - but we probably won't do another Disney Cruise. To top it off - the Wonder 4-day cruisers got a 40% discount and all that we got - and they still got a 4-day cruise. Go figure! I think we should be receiving more off. We paid about what a 4 day cruise costs.
To end on a positive note - the comedians were GREAT!!

What I was expecting - our most disappointing DCL cruise thus far. More because of the administrative problems than anything else, like not receiving our $200 onboard re-booking credit credit. Ship didn't have it, but DCL reservations did. They are "researching" it and will credit back my cc. Many other little admin things. Probably spent about 3 hours in Guest Services lines troubleshooting this stuff. Not fun .. but oh well, what I figured would happen with all their changes. lol
We're here at WDW now staying at the Pop Century. Been fun so far and crowds are light.
Seriously looking at writing two letters to DCL One commending the employees in FL showing up on Monday morning to assist us, and another letter asking them how their administratives systems on the ship and on land can have contradicting information - or lack of information.

First I want to say that I'm sorry to those of you who decided to cruise that it wasn't as magical as you had hoped. Some of your complaints are many of the reasons we decided to cancel afterall. :( I will let you all know when our account is credited with the refund. We ended up visiting Disney anyway with INCREDIBLY light crowds. We checked into the Wilderness Lodge standard room last Wednesday and checked out yesterday. We originally didn't have a view but after a few major problems with our room on the first night, we were switched to a room with a fabulous view overlooking the lake, pool and geyser. It was beautiful. Some things we enjoyed during this trip were dinner at the Crystal Palace, Wishes, Fantasmic TWICE, Wolfgang Puck's for lunch, the best and most active Kilamanjaro Safari we've ever had, and a great dinner at Beaches n' Cream. We actually caught a flight much earlier than planned home yesterday, we missed our dogs and (I can't believe I'm going to say this) are TOTALLY DISNEY-D OUT! We really didn't anticipate a trip to Disney and really incredibly totally missed being on the cruise. :( This was my 4th trip to Disney in less than a year. I was looking for a change of pace.
I think next time we'll stick to December and January...perhaps in the future we'd book a September cruise again. But I was really looking forward to Palo, Castaway Cay, a massage, the Rainforest.... It just wasn't what we had hoped for.

howdy all!
i won't bore you with all the details, but we got home sat eve, and now i've finished all the washing and still emptying suitcases and hanging up unused clothes,
the cruise was fun after we got on and got admin problems worked out. paul, that may have been my family crying that you saw.
we perservered and had a good time with fam and friends, although we lost one family on tues, due to changes and a fallout with other friends during storm. a very trying five days prior to sailing. after this if it comes up again, i am booking a resort under one roof, we were at coro spr, as the restaurants were closed and we were sort of restricted to our rooms.
one nice thing about shortened cruise and $200 credi was that we didn't overspend on the ship and that income tax refund will be able to pay some other cred card debt.
as to experience with dcl, i'll be joining in the letter parade, although mine may be as long as a tom clancy novel when i'm done. why did they ask for contact info and never use it? why were the stories never the same twice? i imagined a roomful of pinocchio's answering phones at dcl at one point.
we love the cruise and the ship and will use our rebook credit next year, but i feel that due to a lot of factors involved, the least of which is frances itself, credit needs to be at least 50%, other lines are doing that for the same reason.
i'll give thre details of the whole exp in a trip report, but i did enjoy meeting the ones of you that i met, i looked over tues night at lumiere's and there were jason and travis two tables away, eating with windermere, and thurs night at herc we were seated behind ganurse and dh, and next night at dreams sat next to mostyn17, everyone had their war stories, but were in better spirits on board. i' sorry that i didn't get to meet up with the others of you, although i probably walked by paulm on the internet once or twice and didn't know it.
i'm glad everyone got there and back in one piece and that the storm didn't do more damage to life than it did.
maybe we'll meet up on the rebook!

I am with you on the administrative nightmare, Paul. Imagine looking for 10 rooms that should have had the booking credits on them.
I think I stood at Guest Services for 3 hour intervals, daily..... I did manage to ask for the same girl every time, since she understood what was going on. That was $2000 we were missing that we had to spend. I wanted to make sure we had it, before we spent it. We got our Castaway Gifts the last night (totally forgot about that) - they had forgotten about us, too.
Well, I'll stop complaining, it was more relaxing than life is now - now that we are home. So much to do, so little time - my mantra!
Glad everyone is home safe - maybe we can meet on another cruise - when it is not hurricane season.
Have a great week!!!!

I think considering all, everyone here handled it nicely. I mean all you can do is try and deal with it and it seems everyone here did that and is doing what they can now to make it better.
Letters are good. They should hear what it was like for their customers so that they can try and not make the same mistakes again.
I trusted that I'd get my onboard creidt and feel a bit foolish that I only checked on the entire account once. But it is so disruptive to a vacation to keep checking those things. And, I am writing DCL to tell them that. I think its only fair they know how people feel about those things that are under their control.

It's hard to deal with when you expect Disney to make the right decision and do the best they can to achieve customer satisfaction. It seems that everything was handled so messy. It's very sad when we have such high hopes and expectations from a company that has always given us such wonderfully memorable vacations over and over...only to be treated in some ways carelessly and poorly.
For a company that always gives 110%, it's disheartening when you only receive 50-75% of their capabilities. If they couldn't do it right, they should have taken the loss and not done it at all. What is worse, a small financial loss that they can make up eventually elsewhere or bad press and dissatisfied once-loyal DCL customers?

I don't know ... I have a funny mind. I like to know why things happen the way they do. Like not getting the re-booking onboard credit while on the cruise, but when calling reservations after the cruise they say its there. Not so much that it happened that makes me think, but how it could happen - from an operational systems perspective.
Not complaining, just inquisitive. lol ... I don't even see how it could happen by accident without someone intentionally ignoring the item thinking it is a double posting or something.
I'm sure they will address any issues anyone has. Quite sure.
I don't know, but I find myself looking at other cruise lines for some reason now. lol .. But, really do not see why.
Next cruise I won't plan so much. Yeah, I think that's what caused all this trouble. We've never really planned anything for our previous cruises and they went very well. lol
I'd like doing the 4/30 cruise, but the fares are pretty steep on that one right now. Think its all the people getting in before the West Coast cruises or what? :)

I have started my letter to DCL, but I am still finding the whole experience to still be way too emotionally and physically draining. My frame of mind is good, and I have certainly accepted what happened and am not livid. However, to lose our fifth anniversary trip (and the only real trip DW and I have really taken alone since our honeymoon) is really disappointing and disheartening. Don't get me wrong, I haven't lost perspective and I do realize how lucky we really are in the entire scheme of things. DW and I both don't think we really got a vacation out of the whole thing, even though we used up our time from work, spent a large sum of money, and were away from home for a period of time. I think I came back far more drained than when I left home, and I know DW did, too. I don't know if we would have even enjoyed the cruise given all we went through to get there and knowing we would have had to deal with the Ft. Lauderdale change, too. Sorry to ramble, but my feelings are so up and down (though we have no regrets about bagging the cruise when we did--it was the right decision).

Finally finished writing my letter to DCL today. Got to proofread it one more time and make sure I get the right address on it (I have an email at my office with the precise address). My concise and to the point letter ended up being five full pages--and it is actually very much to the point. Hope I get more satisfaction than that which came from writing the letter itself!

We rescheduled. I just received a call from Expedia saying that Disney is offering 25% off to those that didn't go. Has anyone else received this? Also, I'm trying to decide which is the better deal, use it for our rescheduled cruise next month, or use it in the future.
This is to be our first DC and I know that you get incentives to book on ship. I'm just wondering if I should save it and use it next month. I heard through these boards that you can transfer the booking to another TA and since Expedia is cheaper...can I use the 25% through Expedia.
I'M CONFUSED!

Are you sure that DCL is offering a 25% disc. to those, like me, who couldn't make the 9/4 cruise?
I sent an email to DCL communications asking them if they'd consider this but haven't received a reply.
Should I call DCL?

Yes. I'm positive. Because our cruise is in 2+ weeks, I have to decide by Friday. If I choose to use the 25% on another cruise, they send out a letter with a voucher.
Feel free to call and confirm, but I got this info from Expedia and I've talked to them twice.

Cindy - Did they say if there was a deadline on when this cruise must be taken in order to receive the 25% off? Is this only for those who ended up going on the cruise or is it available to those who cancelled?

I hope you guys know the tune to the song I'm signing....
Anyway, I just rebooked for the 11/27 cruise w/ my 25% discount given to those of us who had to cancel the 9/4 cruise. I'll pay only $25 more than my Sept. rate - not bad. Wait - that is including the discount I haven't physically received though. Am I being too naive about this discount voucher?
I was confirmed that I'd be getting the voucher thru my TA and I just hope he sends it to me b/c I didn't book w/ him!!! He could only offer the same price as DCL, so I booked directly w/ DCL.
Question - if I find a lower rate, can they pull the ressie from DCL & give me a lower rate? How does this work.
I also got a lower airfare for 3 of us from Phila.

Our full refund has also been posted to my charge cards--took them NINE credits to refund everything!!! It looks like they had to refund port fees and taxes, and perhaps the commissions/markup, from different accounts for each passenger.

Just looked. We got our "50%" refund. It gets kind of confusing those with so many different credits. And, since I had the deposit on oen card and the final payment on another they did credits to both. Seems like ours is short $28.74 of the 50% cruise fare. I'll just check with TA if that's the case then OK.
They are supposed to reimburse me our Port Orleans FQ room for 9/6/04 also per our TA. I haven't seen that yet. I booked it ASAP Sunday night at rack rate so I'd be sure to have a room Monday. This was before I found out they were covering the room. I don't mind they at least refund me that portion of that room I could have got it for if I had booked in advance. Probably easier to do the entire amont though.

I am wondering the same thing about the 25% off.
We'd most probably like to cruise next October. But, not knowing if the cruise has to be one before October 1, 2005 we can't do much of anything as yet.
That's where it makes it unfortunate that we could not rebook onboard if we have to take a cruise before October 1, 2005 to use the voucher. I'll raise that point if that is the case. Since they wouldn't let us re-book onboard by saying our voucher was the best deal they could offer, my thinking is that it can be applied to any cruise that was available for re-booking while onboard.
We shall see I imagine. :D

paulmc80
09-25-2004, 02:34 AM
Well, if they say we have to cruise before October 1, 2005 to take the 25% off I will write them.
For one, they didn't let us rebook while onboard saying the 25% off was the best offer available to us. As far as I know we could have booked through 2005 onboard with 10% off and a $200 onboard credit if they had let us. That would be better than paying full fare for a cruise after October 1, 2005 through the end of 2005.
As far as I'm concerned they have to allow us to book whatever would have been available for re-booking on the ship for at least what they would have offered on the ship. Or, let us use the 25% off for what was available onboard had they allowed us to re-book onboard. They are the ones that said, and I have it in the September 10th Navigator, they couldn't offer us anything better than the 25% off onboard. What? The October through December 2005 cruises weren't being offered onboard for other cruises? Maybe ... but I think they were.
I'm kinda hurt I didn't get the special cruise lithograph. Wasn't my fault there was a change in the cruise. Added insult to injury not giving us 7-night cruisers what they would have given us otherwise. Now, they stopped us from re-booking onboard and aren't allowing us to get at least the onboard deal for cruises from October to December 2005. That would not be right if those cruise dates were available for re-booking onboard to the cruise before and after us with the special 10%^, $200 obc offer.
I'm honestly hurt if the October through December 2005 cruises were normally available for the onboard re-booking offer and they will not let us use the 25% off for that. Or, at least give us what we could have gotten onboard.
I understood the hurricane and all that came with the mixups and what not. I even gave little gifts to the DCL people for being there after the hurricane for us. I was understanding of their confusion and smiled and did not impose. Now, we have to further possibly put up with being put off by DCL. That hurts my feelings. Really.
But, I'll wait and see what that voucher says. Sometimes what they say and what really is are two different things.

that's a good stance, paul, i hope that we get something in the mail, having cruised on dvc points, not sure how this is all going to work. we did get the 50% points back last week, though so they look to be on top of it, so far.

We just got back from the 9/18 sailing. I got a stateroom message from Donna telling us about the 25 percent discount. She said we could apply it to the one we were currently on or apply it to a future cruise by Oct next year. Needless to say, we applied it to the one we just got off of. WHOO HOO!! That was unexpected but a good move on Disney's part.

howdy tg,
where in texas?
did they give you a discount on your cruise before the 25%? the deal offered for the 7 day cruisers was 50% off current cruise and 25% off rebook. we'd gladly take another 25% of our points back.
TexasGirl
09-26-2004, 01:47 PM
There wasn't a discount per se on our the cruise we just finished (9/18 rebooked from the 9/4) although we did get to go without a price differential. The family that ended up sitting at our table was also supposed to be on the 9/4 cruise and rebooked for 9/18 without a price differential.
The 9/18 ran into problems as you may have heard so the end result was 25% off of the 9/18 cruise will be applied retroactively due to the 9/4 mess. 50% off of a future cruise due to the 9/18 mess. We made out well! but who knew??
Two things we have decided. We will
1. Never book in hurricane season. Although we financiallly ended up well it is not worth it.
2. Do a 4 day next time.
Due to the 50% off though, our next cruise WILL definitely be Disney though. Otherwise, we likely would have gone with another line.

well i got a quote from DU and an explanation of how the voucher works, the current rate for the cruise is for four of us is $4094.60.
the 25% applies only to the base rate which is $3340.00 before tax. so the discounted rate comes to $3259.60 after the voucher is applied. the way it works is you make the reservation for the full rate, pay your deposit, then send in the voucher, (make a copy for yourself), then they will take off the discount. seems a little convoluted and hard on themselves, but that is the way it works.
