Hurricane Charley has passed Sarasota with nothing more than a little wind and rain. I assume Jason and Travis fared as well as we did. Not what we expected at all. Best wishes to those still in Charley's path.

glad to hear that the storm turned a little bit and spared ya'll a little bit. but i talked to fil this aft and they were getting lots of rain and waiting for the passover of st cloud of the eye tonight and whatever that would bring.

we'll check in with them in the morn and see how they fared.

on another more pos note, docs came today, including fil and stepmil, and i got the ups guy to forward theirs to them, so that we wouldn't have to pay for shipping. happy, happy, joy, joy.

it was funny, ups truck showed about 4 pm, and went next door, i was outside on swing talking to fil on phone, and i was expecting shipment of new discman, not to mention docs, well he left, so i thought was that my package, looked a little small for discman, though. i walked over to porch and looked at package and saw my name and address on box, so i picked it up, it was even the right address. it was our docs, but no discman. in about 5 mins another ups truck pulls up, and the guy starts rummaging around in the back, so i walked out to the curb, well he comes out with two boxes, discman and fil's docs. i couldn't believe they sent two trucks for all this. i guess it could have been three.

i saw on the late news that tropical depression #5 (earl) is developing south of islands and could track north to florida along same track as charley next week. will pray that it doesn't get strong enough to do much damage. reminds me of 96 when the destin got hit twice in less than 3 weeks, although they weren't as strong.
we delayed our drive home by a day and went to universal to miss the second one, actually stopped at destin for a few days on the drive down.
it was kind of eerie

Glad you got your docs, pogopossum!

Maureen, Travis, Jason, and all Floridians...please check in soon and let us know how you fared this morning. Hopefully the storm proceeded to take a turn away from you all. I've been thinking about you!

On a different note - Ruth Riley (#8) is playing right now as I type on the Women's Olympic Basketball Team. We are leading the New Zealand team 88/42. Ruth is from our county in Indiana.

She's the tallest girl on the team, by the way!! White women CAN jump!

Hi Melody! :wave2:

I just got home from work.

We definitely got off easy last night. I woke up at 1:30 AM, to the sound of wind and rain. Thinking that it was the start of the storm, I came downstairs and turned on the news. They were showing that it had been downgraded from 4 to 1, and that the eye was passing south of here. Also, we didn't get any tornadic activity, which was a big concern.

We actually had a thunderstorm a few weeks ago that was much stronger than what we got last night.

Thanks for thinking of us!:wave2:

I do truly feel for the lives affected by this recent act of nature there in Florida. I'm hoping for a quick recovery in every way lives have been affected. Wishing for the best.

Looking forward to our visit there and teh upcoming cruise with everyone else here on this board and the Disney Magic.

I'm so glad everyone is checking in and accounted for!

We should be getting the heavy rain and winds starting sometime today. Tis the season!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I must say, though, that I am now getting so incredibly nervous about flying in and out of MCO. Let's cross our fingers that there are no problems getting us to our cruise and home from our cruise! :goodvibes

Andy had his flight cancelled so he is driving to Orlando for his 8/21 cruise. I wonder how many have been impacted by this besides those who were directly in the pathway.

I got my documents yesterday - that should be the last of our group. But it didn't have my "early dining" so I will have to check with the Head Servers when I board since we are linked with Paul and Kaye.

Andy has the right idea....because of reading how he is driving down, we're going to have a backup plan to drive to port just in case. We are supposed to fly into MCO late Friday night. I just wouldn't be able to deal if the airport closed.

BTW -- we still didn't receive our docs. :(

Rae - No early dining on your documents? Sounds like we'll have to fix that. (I hope) :D

Sounds like Andy has a nice drive ahead of him. Being able to drive there is certaninly a decent option to have. One that usually doesn't cross my mind however.

Hi,

I am back online!!!

We live in Fort Myers and the area was hit fairly hard by the hurricane.

My friends and family are OK and our house sustained little damage beyond torn roof shingles and uprooted trees.

Many of my neighbors are still without power. We lost electricity, phone and cell-phone service. Air-conditioning is by far the best invention if you live in Florida.

Our local news is running 24-hour updates as people in the barrier islands are returning to their homes. Many popular beaches simply no-longer exist.

Thanks everyone for your prayes and thoughts. We feel very fortunate and grateful to be alive and have a home.

Now, it's time to start thinking about a great vacation!

Maryleigh:)

Thanks, everyone.

This situation made me realize how many things we take for granted.

In many parts of Lee County, residents must contend with raw sewage in the streets, and still no water or electricity. Several people were heartbroken to return to their homes (after being evacuated) to find that their pets had died. The shelters are still running and the Red Cross is handing out water, ice and other supplies at "comfort stations" around county.

Now that my life has become more "normal," I am trying to focus on the cruise. It is difficult, however, because vacation seems a bit trivial after seeing so much destruction.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone. My daughters have been excited to see the names of the children (especially the girls!) that we will be travelling with.

Hi all,

I'm back finally!!! I've been on the road for the past few weeks, mostly for work but also a wedding in TN for my youngest brother.

Maryleigh, I'm glad to hear that your family is fine and that all has worked out for you. Both my parents have moved to Florida in the last couple of years. My dad lives in Ocala, and his area was not affected by Charley. However, my mother lives in Lakeland which was hit pretty hard. This was her first hurricane experience, and she told me it was an eye opener. Never again will she stay in the area during the storm. She had very little damage to her house, but her nephew's new house on the other side of town sustained quite a bit of damage. She told me that the destruction is everywhere, and that it is hard for people outside the area to understand without actually viewing it firsthand. She said words do not do it justice. Everyone in my family is fine, and they are extremely thankful for that.

Maryleigh, on another note, I see that your daughter Paige is 7. Although my daughter Casey is 8, she is INSISTENT that she wants to go to the Oceaneer Club as opposed to the lab. Maybe we can get the two together during the DISmeet.

It looks like things are going to get back to normal (as normal can be) for work, so I will be able to check in regularly from here til the cruise. I can't wait for it to get here, and am looking forward to boarding the ship and getting that first drink in hand!!!

We are looking to schedule our Palo brunch for Monday as well, CRSNDSNY. We don't have a time picked out yet. We still have to do the Ressie rush.

rae519

You have to call Debbie and let her know that your party will be x number of people. This isn't that hard to do - just find out how many will be there and tell her that you need a table for x.

For sure, there will be 4 of us - Paul and Kaye (our friends and dining mates) and us.

Rae

Doctor P

As I said earlier, we would also be interested in Monday at 10:30 if that is what the group is doing. We will need to go through the reservation rush, too, to try to get a slot for two people.

rae519
08-24-2004, 08:26 AM
IF she isn't able to get us all seated, then we will have to do the RUSH and take our chances.

I'm waiting to get the full report from Andy when he calls about the Pirate Night menu (not the food, but the entertainment!!). Hard to pick nights when you either want to have some fun or have a particular menu!!

First, think about your suitcases.
Then go get them.
Put them on the floor/bed and look at them.
Go get some coffee and have breakfast.
Look at the suitcases again.
Open them.
Look at your closet.
More coffee.
Return with determination.
Eliminate the long sleeved, winter clothes.
Look again at the suitcases.
Make supper.
Move suitcases to floor or kick them out of your way.
Go to bed.

Yup, that's how it's been around here!

You won't be the only one dressing as a Pirate...my husband has been hinting at it. His favorite Disney character is Captain Hook. So he may be dressed up, as well.

Our list originators would like to cordially invite you all to Champagne Brunch at Palo. Below is a message copied and pasted from:

Hello fellow September 4th Magic Cruisers!

In speaking with Rae, Melody, and others it has been mentioned that many of us are interested in a possible "Champagne Brunch Meet" where we could all enjoy fine food, champagne, great company, champagne, the magical atmosphere of Palo, and champagne.

As other cruisers have done in the past, we could always arrange to reserve the large Palo "meeting" room for this Champagne Brunch if we wanted to get together as a group. From what I've read, this can be done by one person with the names on the reservations and stateroom numbers of all those who will be in attendance. Since Travis and I will be on the ship pretty early we would be more than happy to try to reserve the room and make the reservation. There would be room for 14 adults wishing to attend.

If you are interested in this, you can e-mail the full names and stateroom numbers of those who will be attending.

Kudos goes out to Momma Rae who originally came up with this concept several weeks ago! Thanks Rae!!!

Oh, and did I mention there will be lots of champagne?

So if you are interested, you can send him an email. If you are unsure of his email, feel free to email me at cruisindisney@aol.com and I'll be sure to immediately forward it to them.

Hope to see you onboard!

Hi all,

The excitement is building so much that it is all I can take to get through work now!!! All I think about is getting on that ship!!! 7 days until the vacation starts for my family!!! We can't wait!!! :bounce:

Jason and Travis, I wanted to wish you a MAGICAL voyage on the first leg of your back to back cruises. :) I look forward to meeting you both when we board.

CRZNDSNY, my daughter is SO excited that I have been talking on the boards and hopefully making new friends for her before we get on the ship. She is looking forward to meeting all the girls at the Dismeet.

Take care all. It's just around the corner!!!

By the way, I just spoke with the FLTours representative - I will be able to pick up our friends using their hotel as our complimentary stop - this will save both of us $$$$. Those of you who consider this option can save money since the sedan would be $160 (holds 3) and the van is $200 (for all 5 of us)!

Well, its my understanding that the DCL has NEVER cancelled a cruise due to weather :umbrella: so, regardless of the path, I am assuming we will all still be going... though it looks BAD... here is a good link... Link to Hurricane Frances Status (http://www.w3.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/?from=0803wc)

Especially check out the "Projected Path" map... it currently shows it hitting Puerto Rico wednesday morning... which is a change from yesterdays projection which had it hitting PR tuesday Morning... Amateur meteoroligists will realize that this may be a good sign that the storm is loosing momentum, HOWEVER, it has also begun to take a more Northerly track toward the east coast of Florida... NOT good... :scared1:

If anyone has any updates, or info on Hurricane Francis, please share them...

they will avoid it, it may mean that we are on a mystery cruise. the actual track of the hurricane that was in the area when we sailed in aug 00 was very similar to the projected track of frances. we diverted to the west and spent a day in cozumel, two days at cc and afternoon at freeport. that storm was quite a bit weaker, about 70 mph winds when it hit st. thomas and puerto rico. when it went over hispanola it stalled in the mountains and fell apart. capt henry left port with the intent to make it to the virgins by going straight south and between cuba and hispanola then turning to the east, but that would have put us in port same day that huricane hit, so that's when the fun began, so if we can get out of port and track follows what it looks like it may then we may be able to try the same trick this time. at any rate i know that they will do everything they can to get us some kind of cruise.

For those concerned about Hurricane Frances - two years ago Mom, Michael and I were on the Magic and Hurricane Lili diverted us to St. Thomas and Puerto Rico rather than the Western Itinerary. That was our "Magic-al Mystery Cruise" and it was wonderful!!! Calmest seas I've ever sailed on and the most beautiful skies and clouds - just perfect!!

Just as long as we can get to the Port - we know that we will be taken care of!!!!

Just wish I could take my chihuahua with me - little bugger got me so attached to him!!!! And I'm the one who said, "NO SMALL DOGS!!!" HAHAHAHAH! Movies were...

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
Around the World in 80 Days
Brother Bear
Finding Nemo
The Alamo
Pirates of the Caribbean
King Arthur
Raising Helen
Home on the Range
Princess Diaries 2
The Village

Out of all those, only saw the last two. They showed The Village in the WD theatre on Pirate night... not a bad movie, but not as scary as advertised. Saw Princess Diaries 2 on the last night. Not as "cute" as the first one.

Most likely Tampa. They ahve used this port before. I can't imagine it would be Ft. Lauderdale or Miami given the situation.

I spoke with Disney Cruise Line this morning to get advice on my Trip-Tiks from AAA. I asked if the Magic could not dock at Port Canaveral, where should I get maps to just in case there is an alternate embarkation site. DCL advised to get maps to Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami as alternate sites.

My hope is Tampa or Ft. Lauderdale. Miami is such a long drive - especially in hurricane weather.

Hi guys, after being nervous about this ordeal the whole day, I also just called DCL and spoke to a really nice woman. She said that no adjustments in port or itinerary have been made at this point, however, she did ask for my contact information so they can get in touch with me should things change. She also said they would try their best to keep the itinerary as close to the original as possible while maintaining the safety of their guests.... Like the last 7 nt Western cruise they bypassed Key West and made two stops in Mexico and did CC first. She said she seriously doubted they would ever change an Eastern to a Western. She also said they have never left from another port so things would have to be pretty dire to change locations.... but if they did, they would probably pick up the cost. She mentioned that they did delay the last Western cruise to give guests extra time to get there and even when they left (leaving some passengers still unaccounted for), they contacted these guests and made arrangments for them to drive/fly down to Key West to catch the ship there, at Disney's expense! She promised they would be extra accommodating if this hurricane gets too close to us.

Another thing to consider, and it's just a consideration, is trip insurance, which is still available through DCL's insurance carrier (but not bookable through Disney, you'd have to call the insurance co. direct). I booked my trip through VacationsToGo and they will allow me to buy trip insurance up to 48 hours prior to departure. The cost for me (36) and my dd7 would be about $100.00 and covers just about everything. It's just something to think about in case you are truly concerned.... however, just to re-state, if there are any changes due to this hurricane, there would be no penalties or loss of money inflicted by Disney.

Let's just keep hoping the hurricane changes it's course. You all may want to contact Disney to give them all your contact numbers in case they don't already have them.

Signed,

a finger crossing, toe crossing, eye crossing Melissa :)

Has anyone heard from Jason or Travis? I'm just wondering how they are doing. If the progression path of Frances is correct, it looks like they will have to go through the hurricane to get back to Port Canaveral. Any thoughts or ideas?

Just heard the latest update on the news.... and it's still anyone's guess.... I think it will miss PR and the USVI (it's path is just above them) but the Friday/Saturday forecast has it going anywhere in the state of Florida. There aren't any real significant high/low pressure systems that are going to move it dramatically, at least not that they can see yet. Unfortunately, it will be the waiting game.

People in South Fl are already starting on the water/wood/generator runs. :(

so does everyone have a back up plan to get to tampa if needed. can we just drive there or do we need to ride in the bus..Im not saying it will be tampa, but it would the closest. we are driving to orlando on thursday so hopefully we will be able to figure out where we will be able get on the ship, if we get to go on a ship.!!!!

im glad we are all hanging in there!

the thing about driving direct to tampa and parking there is, will they sail back to tampa if weather is fine 0n the 10th. if they sail back to pc then your car is in tampa, so you are probably better off driving to pc and hoping for disney transpo to tampa.

hey ganurse i hope that it is a quiet work night for you, but i just wouldn't worry, they will get us out to sea and keep us pointed in a sunny dry direction. we spent week on the magic right at the beginning of the seven night cruises in 2000, and the captain made a decision to scrap original itinerary in the middle of the night and the next morning to our surprize we in the western caribbean, and eventually ended up at cozumel. so it has been done before that they sailed an eastern itinerary into western one.

HI all,

Just found this forum yesterday, thank goodness. Thanks everyone who is sharing information. I'm very nervous that our flight is going to be cancelled. We're to fly into Orlando late Friday night from Philadelphia and I'm wondering if we should try to change our flight to Thursday? Anyone else contemplating the same thing?

Hope to see everyone on the ship on Saturday!!

Surely everthing will work out. Here's hoping.

We leave Friday, afternoon to fly in to Orlando. I'm glad we are going in a day early with all the uncertainty going on.

We're celebrating 11th anniversary and bring our 4 year old. We can't waiit.

We are also flying in on Friday (afternoon arrival) and after listening to Dr. Jon Nese on the Weather Channel, I must admit the words "Major Hurricane when it reaches the southeast coast" has me VERY concerned.

This will be a great test for our travel agents to see how they will help us out!!

Anyone hear from their TA lately?????

My TA called DCL and said nothing has yet changed.

I'm just really worried about our flight. What if we can't fly in? If we have a layover in Atlanta, will Delta allow us to stay in Atlanta even if MCO is shut down? Or will our entire flight be cancelled?

I am now officially hitting panick mode. :scared:

We're flying out of Phili on Fri @ 11am. I hope our flight is not cancelled. I'm looking into the cost of flying out on Thursday nite.

I called my TA & left him a msg. I just want to know if he can give me a phone # to call to find out if the cruise changes port for Saturday. I'll be staying on Fri. nite @ a friend's house & have a car p/u for Sat. early am.

Let's pray that we all arrive at the port safely & that we all have an incredibly memorable cruise.

Hi,

I think Friday PM might be too late! If they cancel flights into Orlando and we wait until then to do anything, we're sunk (no pun intended!). I think it takes 24 hours for us to drive to FLA from Philly, so that wouldn't be an option. My TA said that airlines will usually let you change your flight to an earlier one without charging you a new fare if it looks like the original flight will be cancelled. She suggests trying that the day before we leave (on Thursday). I'd love to just change my flight to Thursday night.

Oh, what to do, what to do!

I just heard on the news though that Frances might not make landfall in FLA until Sunday (hitting the Bahamas as early as Friday night).

Call DU; they could be more help than my TA.

However, I checked w/ DCL & they suggested to call on Friday pm to find out if the ship will be moved to another port. It's too early to know anything about our cruise; they're working right now on the 4-day cruise that sails on Thursday pm.

Disney cruise line actually called me this afternoon. Like you guys, I am on the Sat, Sept 4th Eastern cruise.

She said Disney was contacting all the passengers. They wanted to know if I had a cell phone number, the flight I would be taking, the hotel I would be staying at. She said they would be contacting us, Friday or Saturday or Thursday and needed alternate #'s.

I asked if any decisions had been made and she said that it was still too early. She relayed that "they" (whoever that is) had been in almost constant meetings today talking about the situation and contengencies.

Anyway...thought this was interesting. I don't know if anyone else has been contacted?

Big thanks to All Seasons Travel (Sandi and Chuck) - they called me several times today to verify my information (flight, hotel, phone numbers) AND to reassure me that althought they will be gone on their vacation, I will be served by their office and Disney.

Chuck took a lot of time out of his day to call and give me more information about what could happen and how do deal with things. Basically, he said that we need to make sure that we have all our information together and that our TA or Disney has all current numbers (cell phone and emergency).

I was totally blow away by his call and his caring professionalism - made me very glad that I transferred my Disney cruise to them. I can't believe how informed he was and how willing he was to answer all my questions.

So best advise, make sure Disney has your numbers and don't sweat it!

Several years ago (I think pre-Wonder even) DCL did change port for a few trips to Port Everglades. Passengers were kept well informed about the changes. There were buses at PC to transport anyone to the ship that wanted to park at the port.

I know this as fact because I know several people personally that were on the diverted cruises.

OK, here's what I have decided (for the moment anyways). We are driving down a day earlier than planned (we will be in Florida on Friday morning instead of Saturday morning). We made a reservation for Pop Century at WDW for Friday night. I am hoping that when we wake up Saturday morning, that we will be able to make a quick adjustment to alternative docking sites.

Ok Floridians, I need your help. I am hurricane ignorant. I'm thinking that if the hurricane hits PC area, that there will also be severe weather/tornadoes/high winds etc. in Orlando as well. Is it a smart thing to even consider staying in Orlando on Friday night or would I be better off staying somewhere on the Florida border????? I have already made my nonrefundable reservation (about $86.00) for Pop Culture.

The most afraid that I have ever been in my life was in May when I was driving home from work in a severe thunderstorm. There were tornadoes dropping down out of the clouds all around me, emergency vehicles with sirens blaring everywhere. How does that compare to a hurricane???

Starting to panic........in Indiana

I think it depends on where it hits. WDW seems to take good precausions during storms. I would make sure you have some ice and water on hand, wherever you stay. WDW will give you flashlights but it wouldn't hurt to bring a radio and extra batteries, just like if you were home without power. Maybe even some food. Fill your bath tub in the room if the storm is going to hit or come close. I had my kids wear thier bike helmets during Charley, you probably won't have them handy ;)

Hi everyone, DCL contacted me tonight to ensure they had all my contact numbers. While she could not tell me how things are going to change she did give me additional information, as follows:

1) DCL still plans on sailing on 9/4.
2) Captain will have a finalized course either late Thursday or Friday am.
3) An Eastern trip could be turned into a Western trip, although this is unlikely as I believe HF as already passed both PR and USVI. Castaway Cay could be eliminated if necessary.
4) A port change to TPA (Tampa) is unlikely as CCL or RCL (can't remember which) already have confirmed birthing and take priority over Disney. Therefore, there simply would not be sufficient space for them to relocate there.
5) Depending on the weather (of course) either Port Everglades (FLL) or Key West ports would be used IF they needed to relocate.
6) IF there are any changes to either the embarkation location or the ports of call, Disney will get in touch with passengers either late Thursday or early Friday.
7) IF a guest wanted to change their dates due to the hurricane, Disney would allow with a $50.00 pp change fee as well as the difference in cost for the new dates of travel (if any).
8) All in all, Disney is going to ensure the safety of it's guests and the ship and will do whatever is necessary to keep the ship sailing on 9/4.

Just to keep everyone up to date, I called DCL and gave them our contact information last night. We are due to get in at 2:30 pm on Friday and the expectation is still that we will be able to get in (so far) apparently (I know it is guess work). More importantly, DU sent us an email about midnight Eastern time last night asking for detailed contact and travel information so that DCL can get ahold of us. With things re Frances so up in the air, they can't choose an alternative port yet, but DCL said they would have to make that decision probably today or by all means tomorrow.

If we sail out of Tampa, does anyone know the name of the port? I just called to make ressies for an airport hotel in Tampa for Fri. nite & the rep told me she didn't know any ports in Tampa where Disney could sail from.

Has anyone considered postponing this cruise to another date, year, century? How does DCL respond to this request?

This would be our 1st cruise & it's a bit scary. I don't want to traumatize my 8 yr old dd. It's supposed to be a happy time - not a scary one.

Well, from everything I've been reading including other cruisline message boards that are leaving out of PC, it seems DCL will not get a spot in Tampa. Can't see why they can't stagger the times. I did book a room at the Hampton Inn in Tampa just in case.
God knows what is going on. I'm thinking by Sunday's cruise it will all be over with if it's moving on this track. As for Saturday's cruise I can't imagine how they can dowck anywhere on the east coast, maybe Jacksonville? Guess we're all playing teh waiting game. Maybe they will keep the ship out to sea until late Saturday and embark really late?

I just spoke with Luna at DCL (12:15 est). She advised that they are having meetings this afternoon and to call back around 5:00pm. She mentioned that they "may" make a decision today ("may" being the important word). I think they are doing everything they can, it's just hard waiting and trying to plan.....not Disney's fault. They are still being very professional and pleasant, and I'm sure they are handling a lot of calls from worried cruisers, not to mention families of current cruisers who, I'm sure, are very concerned.

For those of you in Florida. We are driving from Atlanta - will we be able to get to Port Canaveral, or will they be evacuating? I am not real sure about driving thru the hurricane, either.

This is our 4th DC, but the first one with 6 of my 8 siblings and their families. There is 26 of us, so I have been stressed just coordinating everything, and now a hurricane is in the mix. It can't get much more fun!!!

Can't wait to get on the boat and spend a week with my siblings. Something we have never been able to do. Hopefully, we can get out to calm waters!

Hi everybody........starting to accept the realization that my family may not be cruising on Saturday :(

I'm still holding on to a thread of hope, but I'm checking all of my options. I spoke with DCL tonight, told them that I am scared to travel to Florida. She said I can change my cruise dates and they will waive the transfer fee (of course I will need to pay any difference in cruise fees). I'm thinking that spring break may be the light at the end of the tunnel for my family. As much as I am looking forward to my cruise, two things are evident:
1. This is a very scary situation to be in.
2. My travel interruptions are minor compared to everyone's danger in the path of this storm.

I will make a decision tomorrow morning, but right now, my head is telling me that patience is a virtue, rebook for a later date. On the other hand, I may be on my way to Florida tomorrow...who knows???

I did ask DCL if I could vote on their docking port, I said that I vote for docking in New Orleans, the DCL rep got a good laugh and said, if anyone is listening to this phone call, we have a vote for New Orleans. We both laughed.

The only two ways I can see continuing with my Saturday cruise plans are if I feel that the ship will dock safely (I don't see how any of the Florida ports can be considered safe). I don't know what other options there are, but I was halfway serious when I mentioned New Orleans. Or if DCL would make plans to start the cruise on Sunday or Monday. I would gladly give up 2 days of cruising just to be able to sail safely after the hurricane passes.

Anyhow, just checking in.....I'm still here with you, watching and praying. Lord, please let us all make wise decisions and keep the people in the path of this storm safe.

Hurricane Frances Update - Royal Caribbean

Miami - September 1, 2004 - 6:30 p.m. - Royal Caribbean International is closely monitoring the path and progress of Hurricane Frances to ensure our guests enjoy safe and comfortable cruises and to make certain our ships steer clear of the storm.

The safety and comfort of our guests are always the foremost concern of Royal Caribbean International.

We will update our Hurricane Frances information three times daily as the storm approaches - at 9:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Given Hurricane Frances' current and projected path, we are currently altering the itineraries of six Royal Caribbean International ships:
Grandeur of the Seas will reverse its itinerary for its August 29 sailing. On Tuesday, it will call in Nassau, Bahamas, and on Wednesday, it will call at Freeport, Bahamas. The ship will not make its normal port call at Port Canaveral, Florida, on Thursday. Instead, it will make a port call in Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday.

Navigator of the Seas will not make its normal port calls at St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on Tuesday, San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Wednesday, and Labadee, Hispaniola, on Thursday. Instead, the ship will make a port calls at St. John, Antigua, on Tuesday, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on Wednesday, and remain at sea on Thursday.

Adventure of the Seas will not make its normal port call at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, on Tuesday. Instead, the ship will spend Tuesday at sea and make a port call at Philipsburg, St Maarten, on Saturday.

Majesty of the Seas will not make its normal port call at Coco Cay, Bahamas, on Wednesday. Instead, the ship will make a port call at Freeport, Bahamas, on Wednesday.

Majesty of the Seas will not make its normal port call at Key West, Florida, on Thursday. Instead, the ship will end its current cruise one day earlier than normal, returning to the Port of Miami on Thursday morning at approximately 7 a.m.

Sovereign of the Seas will end its current cruise one day earlier than normal, returning to Port Canaveral on Thursday at approximately noon.

Voyager of the Seas will not make its normal port call at Freeport, Bahamas, on Friday. Instead, the ship will make a port call at Montego Bay, Jamaica, on Thursday, and spend the day at sea on Friday.
At this time, all other Royal Caribbean International ships are sailing their normal itineraries. We will continue to closely monitor the storm and update this information at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

We are in Atlanta, too, but we are going to hold off leaving until tomorrow afternoon, if it takes that long to get info out of Disney. Our first plan was to drive to Valdosta , so we would be closer and more central to a change of port. I guess it is a wait and see day here.

I'm deciding today whether or not to head down. I'll wait til 1:00 to hear what Disney's plans are. I am packed and ready to go. My 8 yr old son woke up this morning, and said "Today is the big day". I asked, what do you mean. He smiled from ear to ear and said, "Today is the day we leave for the cruise".

We're leaving today at 5:50pm from Philly Airport to Orlando, unless we hear the cruise is cancelled altogether. We're supposed to get picked up to go to the airport at 2:30pm. I sure hope things work out and we can all go on this cruise and the folks in Florida don't have to go through this again (after Charley). This has been a week of pins and needles and it's just getting worse!

I dont want a hurricane or anyone to get hurt, but i want my cruise. i have been planning this for a year now and have been so excited. i know that safety and peoples homes are more important and that all of us will be disappointed but i just wanted to vent

It's Official!

We are leaving Monday for a 5-night cruise!!!

Yikes!

Yes! Monday for 5 nights. Just read that on the popup window at the DCL website. Just need to know where we are leaving from now.

Hoping the best for everyone that may be affect by this weather in the southeast. This still could turn out OK for them. I'm thinking positive!

Is anyone else upset? I really don't want a 5 night cruise. I would almost rather reschedule. Any ideas where we might be going?

But more importantly, my thoughts and prayers are with those who end up in the path of this storm. We are on the west FL coast but will surely fair better than many, many others. Keep safe everyone.

Well, there is some disappointment of course. But, in gneral I'm relieved to have some idea of what I'll be needing to do at this point.

Its a tough situation for all involved, but just one of those things life tosses at you.

I think that DCL has made a good decision. I would rather do a 5 night cruise than a zero night cruise. Back to packing!!:) :)

What a roller coaster!!!! I'm going, then I'm not, then I'm going, then I'm not.....now I'm going on a 5 night cruise.

Just waiting for my phone to ring......

Anyone cancelling at this time??

I'm still praying for Florida. Cruise or no cruise.......this is a scary storm and I hope the best for our neighbors in the south.

Not cancelling here, but just waiting for DCL to call me so that I can determine what to make my new flights for. Of course, if it is too difficult to make changes in flights and all that, then I may have to cancel. I sure hope not though!

FL_Librarian

I am certainly glad the decision was made with everyone's safety in mind.

We will not cancel because we are too excited to wait any longer!!!

And, although it's a little sad to only have 5 nights instead of 7, I am just happy that we still get to go.

On the bright side...maybe I can take some clothes out of my overstuffed suitcases!

We've decided that it's too iffy for us to try to get there by Monday - so we are waiting to see what the options are for those of us who have decided not to cruise on the 5 nighter.

Hey, look on the bright side of things - we are being given information early enough to make informed decisions!

Will miss you (especially my good friends!) -

I just want to put in my 2 cents. This time Saturday people in Florida and elsewhere will be DEAD. Missing a day or so on a cruise is trivial and you people who think you have somehow been gypped by DCL or have their cruise cancelled because of forces on Nature should be ashamed of yourselves. You need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I hope and pray all are safe and nobody gets hurt. You should pray too.

Debbie , i think you're being harsh but i understand that tempers are short during uncertain situations, however there isn't a single person on the board who doesn't appreciate that life is more important than cruising and wishes everyone safe but you don't need to blow people out the water for being upset or concerned that their plans have altered after many months of planning and dreaming. Unfortunately in the world somebodies dies every second of every day but the world still turns and i understand the upset of people who may have been planning a vacation for years, saving for so long , having a holiday to get over something bad in their lives etc. Please don't condemn "these people" for not wanting something important in their lives ruining.

Wishing all of you who travel this weekend safe journeys and that includes anyone having to evacuate, my heart goes out to you particularly.

p.s i think you'll read that most people are happy with dcls decision and appreciate that they are getting a holiday if somewhat shorter than anticipated.
just my 2 cents !

Vacations in general are trivial compared to major world catastrophes.

That said...people on this board and in other places continue to discuss their cruises in light of worldwide disaster, flood, starvation, etc...

Of course missing a few days of vacation is only an inconvenience compared to death and destruction. This particular thread allows people travelling on 9/04 to discuss all of the issues pertaining to that cruise.

Just MY 2 cents

Thanks, Wildcatmickey.

I think that is a great compensation!
