Oh.... we don't exepect to receive the cruise documents until next month sometime. Usually just before that we might receive excursion information and such in regular USPS mail.

The cruise documents you'll received will not contain your dining rotation, unless that has changed lately. It'll just be your cruise information, boarding documents, immigration, onboard charging, and such. Usually, most people don't get their dining rotation until checking in at the port.

Your dining rotation will be noted on your Key to the World Card when you check in at Port.

You can call the Excursions desk as of today to schedule your excursions. Just have your reservation number ready and call 1-877-566-0968.

BTW, when I called the dining coordinator today, I tried to get Palo Brunch reservations for Sunday, September 5th and I was only able to secure 10:30am reservations. She said there was a large group in there that day and slots were minimal.

Did anyone else call for their REAS details yet?

For the most part, yes. I'm just relieved to have that planning part out of the way. Just makes me one step closer.

Just booked our excursion for San Jaun, going to Barcardi Rum Distillery & Old San Jaun City Tour. Should be fun!! Also, found out that the reason we have not received our excursion book is DCL sends all the information to the TA's and the TA's send them out to the travelers. So it appears the TA is holding on to the excursion books. I just hope they don't hold onto al the other documents.

I was told that DCL mails our actuals docs directly to us and that they do not go through the TA. Can anyone else confirm this?

I have no "inside" information, but can speak for what our experience has been. We have always received our cruise documents directly from DCL. Used to be via FedEx up until just over a year ago and now its via UPS the last time.

I have heard on the board about some people picking up docs from their TA. I think it depends on the TA as to whether you get the docs directly from DCL or from the TA.

a question about st. john excursions: on the st. john island tour on bus i see that prices are for 10 and up, and child but no age range, would a three year old be able to go on this tour? i see that all other tours don't have age ranges that include 3 year olds so he won't be able to do those, but we are not sure if he will be fully potty trained by then, if not we won't be able to leave him onboard.

i thought that we could do the hike and i could carry him when needed, but it doesn't look like that's possible.

or is there a tour not through dcl that would get us over to the park and beach to swim on st. john?

Great news! I'm sure it's not too late.

You need to call your TA or DCL (whomever you booked through) and add it on. Because final payment deadline is already passed, you'll need to pay for it up front with them.

Just got an e-mail confirmation for the "Nature Walk through La Mina Falls" excursion. Has anyone else booked this or thought about it?

Afterwards, I think we'll just explore the city before heading back to the Magic.

Just wanted to say HI to everyone from Disney. I'm here for a conference that begins tonight. Flew in yesterday and went to the Magic Kingdom...had dinner at California Grill and was able to watch Wishes from our table. We're having a wonderful time....this conference makes us just that much closer to our cruise! Can't wait!

Take care everyone!

Hi All,

I'm back after a long absence. I got sent to the UK for a week on business unexpectedly, then returned home just in time to go on our trip to Florida.

If you haven't visited Discovery Cove, you should really try to make it some time. My daughter still can't stop talking about swimming with the dolphins. It was definitely the highlight of our trip.

Busch Gardens was also very nice. We hadn't been to that park in about 15 years. We took the safari tour which allowed close-up encounters with some of the animals and coasters.

Jason, we were able to get a Disney fix, at least from a shopping perspective. We spent one night at Downtown Disney. My wife and daughter definitely took advantage.:earseek:

We still haven't decided on our excursions at this point. Things were pretty hectic over the last few weeks. I better get hopping on that front.

Seven plus weeks away and counting. The excitement is starting to build.:bounce:

Paul--

Travis and I are thinking about doing the Bacardi Rum Distillery tour on our own. Here is some info from the AAA Travel Book on the distillery:

Bacardi Rum Distillery is 2.5 miles west of Catano at Km. 2.6 on SR 888, across the straits from Fort San Felipe del Morro. A ferry connects Old San Juan port and the dock at Catano, where visitors can take a taxi to the world's largest rum factory. Displays and samples are offered. One hour tours depart every 30 minutes Mon. - Sat, 8:30-4:30. Free.

We're doing the Nature Walk through La Mina Falls so we won't be able to book the distillery tour through DCL. Hopefully it won't be difficult to coordinate the ferry and taxi to and from the rum tour.

Jason:

Thanks for the information! I was debating just doing the Barcardi tour and walking around Old San Juan on our own. But, I've been feeling lazy and decided to take the easy way out. lol

Sounds like what you and Travis are planning on doing should be fun! I don't think you'll have a problem getting over for a tour at the Barcardi distillery. Sometimes ifs more fun that way too I like to think.

Paul--

On our first Western and Eastern cruises we did the same thing. Kind of did our own little walk-around-town and find your own excursions. It wasn't until our August cruise of last year that we finally booked an excursion through Disney. It is so relaxing to just let Disney take care of all of the arrangements and coordination! ::yes::

I noticed some of you have GTY listed as your deck on Three circles. What is that?

paulmc80
07-18-2004, 09:38 PM
A GTY stateroom is one that's not assigned yet, but Guaranteed (GTY) to be that category stateroom or higher. As such, someone with a category 11 GTY would not have their staterrom assgned until documents are issued, but would be guaranteed a category 11 stateroom or higher.

Seems that sometimes the GTY's are upgraded regularly. I find it rather interesting to watch the pattern of upgrades at times.

LOL Understandable!
We had no choice with the GTY status unless we wanted CAT5 or better. Since we're trying to save $$$ and we booked so late, we had no choice. This will be the first cruise where we did notchoose our stateroom location. It will be luck of the draw and overall, we're just thrilled to be able to cruise again! :-D

thank god, ds just started showing signs of potty training today, and we are doing a dance. i knew something was up this morning when he told me he had to go potty, i made him sit on the little potty, but he didn't do anything, so i thought maybe we're close. i was working this evening and dw called me and said that he came to her and said he had to go, so she sat him down and he went, and not just a little bit. we were starting to worry a little bit as we neared that 45 day mark. but maybe he'll have it down in time for the big day, hooray.:cheer2:

Oh my gosh! I was just writing you an e-mail! Got a whole bunch of stuff to send you all. Me and Kaye are flying in Friday afternoon from Atlanta. Will be wonderful seeing you guys again.

Tablemates? Pick us! Pick us! lol ... Well seriously, we have The First, or Main dining. Kaye prefers that one. So, if it works out for you all that would be great.

Love you, Paul!!!! Kaye too!

Just wrote you both more e-mail with more information!

As soon as I get things confirmed we are with you, we have to try to get Alex though!!! You know he will come through as always for us!

Sooooo very excited about this - and Michael is beside himself looking forward to seeing you both and his "adopted brothers" - Jason and Travis!

Okay, what about excursions?

I'm thinking BARARDI and Old Town tour - but then that horseback riding is always a hit for us!!

St. Thomas - just to look at the island from the boat is pleasure enough but we've done St. John twice and maybe will take a look around St. Thomas this time. At least the sky ride!

So much to do in 31 days - agggghhhh!!!!!

We were given a CAT11 stateroom last week and I chickened out about not having any view at all. SO...I upgraded to a CAT6 guar last Friday and were given a great midship CAT6 stateroom on port side that I absolutely *love*! I am so excited....and hubby has NO idea that we upgraded. It will be a nice anniversary surprise for him!

Is anyone interested? If so, PM me or send me an email to cruisindisney@aol.com.

Rae ... I have an idea on getting you guys stateroom 5622. Since Jason and Travis are doing back to back 7-night cruises, they might be able to stay aboard from the August 28 cruise. Then, all they'd have to do is stay in 5622 until you guys get there and lock everyone else out. Hmmmm ...On second thought that might be dangerous. Rules! Sheesh .. lol

We are doing the Barcardi Rum distillery and Old San Juan Tour! Just don't be the behind us on the way to the free samples. Might not be any left for you all. (Not me ... Kaye tends to get carried away with that stuff) :D

Oh man Rae, you made my day seeing that you all are coming on this cruse. Now I have to re-write the email I was sending to you. And the weather here is so awful i had to leave or be way late for work.

Paul had this great idea and I second it!

Okay, Disney meet!!!!!

How about group brunch? Any takers? If we each book one, we can be piggish about it!

Rae - That's a better airfare than we're getting from Atlanta to MCO. We're leaving 9/3 at abotu 2:45p.m. from Atlanta and paying $195/each ... the lowest i ever saw it for our dates was $175. Figured better get them tickets since 9/3 might be a busy day our of ATL.

Group brunch and Palo dinner sound great. We were just wondering when it might be good to do palo dinner.

FIRST QUESTION:
Do we have an Official 9/4 Brunch planned??????
I have the REAS package and can help, IF I know ahead of time who wants to go.
I am looking at either Sunday or Monday 10:30AM.

SECOND QUESTION:
Do we have an Official shirt/color that we will wear at the Meet and Greet? We already plan to meet at the Promenade Lounge after the Safety Drill I've been told.

THIRD QUESTION:
Can we have a special meet and farewell on Friday afternoon?

As for Fidelio, as fate would have it, Disney contacted him 24 hours too late for this summer or he would have been back. For now he is still under contract at the Turning Stone Casino in upstate New York. And believe me, if I won the lottery, I'd have him back on the Magic in a heartbeat.

As for Kaye and Paul - ahhhh, true love there! And a lot of frequent flier miles!

not sure if it was because her ta was connected or she booked early but we got airfare from dfw to mco for $188 per person in june. somebody said it might be because we are flying home on the 11th and people still don't travel that date as much. glad i'm not superstitious.

Phil--

I don't have any first-hand experience with DVC as I'm not a member but I have heard others say that DVC tends to be slower in getting DCL docs out compared to DCL directly and other TAs.

Hopefully they're on their way and you'll have them by Monday!

I'm always curious how systems work. DCL's methodology on sending out documents has intrigued me.

We booked a last October and we received our documents about the same time we normally do, approximately 30 days out give or take. I'd love to know exactly how they sort and it all out. But, that would be like work! lol

I hope you all get your docs very soon.

I agree...there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the distribution. If it means anything to your logic, we booked at 62 or 63 days out. We also booked a guarantee cabin and when I called DCL this past Monday it had already been assigned.

Not sure if DW would be up for the Palo Brunch (she wasn't enamored with the food last time, but might like the opportunity to have a DIS meet). 10:30 on Sunday might be bad because that typically conflicts with the DVC members reception, but Monday would be great and I would love to do it if there was a place for me/us.

Just like to jump in a d say you can meet some great people on the cruise and make some life long friends. My DW and I went on the Magic last year Labor Day week just as we are this year. We developed a great freindship with one of the couples that was at our table during dinner last year. We look forward meeting and developing friendships with those we have been in contact with on this board.

paul,

only advice i can give is, i had to take dw's 26" atlantic in for handle work, (warranty, thankfully), and the luggage guy told me to stick to name brand, (atlantic, samsonite, etc.), because the service centers usually have parts and can get parts for them easier than off brands. he did show me the new samsonite silhouette 8, nice stuff, and he said they are better than they used to be. but it is always good to get new stuff to break in on a great trip like dcl. we just did the tax free days sales yesterday to get wardrobe for the trip. lots of fun, good bargains, too.

CRSDSNY,

We didn't book on points this time, either. So, if we don't get an invitation in our stateroom we will just show up at the time it says in the Navigator. Last time we cruised, there were over 400 DVC members on board--they had to split the reception into two different groups/times (back to back).

I called about our documents today and they said they were sent out by UPS on Thursday, so we should have them by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Keeping our fingers crossed for an upgrade, perhaps??? Throw some Pixie Dust our way, please!! :)

well, we booked the Reas pkg and I am really excited. I have talked to Sue Ellen from dreams unlimited and she has been really helpful in figuring out times for Palo, brunch, tea and the spa stuff. I think we are going to skip the tea as we are not really into that stuff. I hope we get our documents. When I called DU friday, they said many people dont get their documents until 2 weeks before the cruise. So we will see, whats included in the documents?

paulmc80
08-08-2004, 01:12 AM
Let's see .. Our documents came with:

1 Disney Cruise Line Gifts brochure. This has the stateroom gifts you can order.

1 Booklet titled "Passport to Disney Magic."

1 Notice printed on very bright orange card stock titled "Important Immigration Documentation Reminder"

1 Flyer advertising Castaway Cay excursions.

1 Formalwear brochure

2 Government of the Bahamas Immigration Arrival/Departure Card. One for each of us to complete since there are only two booked on our reservation.

2 "Your Travel Booklet." One for each of use since there are only two on our reservation. This looks like a payment coupon booklet you might have had for a car or mortgage loan. (I'm not sure if payment booklets are still used any longer, so don't laugh because I'm old enough to remember these.) The booklet contains the items below:
Your "Mailing Information"
Vacation Itinerary
Sailing Itinerary
Important Messages
Important Messages Continued
Cruise Information
Gratuity Guidelines Information
Ground Transfer Information
Two luggage tags for you to tear out and put on your checked bags
Transfer Purchase Option
Form to complete for minors traveling without their parents
Payment Authorization Form
Cruise Embarkation Form
Departure Information Card
Cruise and Airline Contracts.

1 Thin card board box that looks like a footlocker with all the stuff above inside. If you read the inside flap of this box you'll see "Helpful Tips." This basically outlines items of importance to complete in "Your Travel Booklet," such as:
- Embarkation Forms, including emergeency contacts
- Cruise Contract
- Payment Authorization Form (1 per stateroom

I think that is about all we have usually gotten with our documents. Did I miss anything or anyone else get different stuff?

You have too much time on your hands. Or as Captain Jack Sparrow would say, "Mate, you have to find yourself a girl. OR perhaps you have found one but are incapable of wooing same."

Seems distance is making you take more than cold showers this time around, dear friend.

I called about our documents today and they said they were sent out by UPS on Thursday, so we should have them by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Keeping our fingers crossed for an upgrade, perhaps??? Throw some Pixie Dust our way, please!! :)

I can't believe the DVC reception was that large! I wonder as far as ratio is concernded, how many of those members booked on points vs. cash. Interesting......I would guess more people booked on cash.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for upgrades! We didn't get our docs yet so I'm hoping that is why! :teeth:

We booked this cruise over a year ago, then cancelled it - but since things changed for us we decided to rebook it. Glad to be with so many old and new friends. Rae

Ahhhh, you want to know more about my furr-kids! Well, let me just start off by saying how much these two little girls mean to me and EB. Much to the chagrin of many of our family and friends, our lives revolve around these two precious little creatures.

The month EB and I purchased our home we went to a greyhound rescue picnic/reunion contemplating adopting one of these beauties. Yes, I said 'contemplating.' Well, needless to say, we fell in love with our lighter-brindled baby, MeiMei. She had just turned 3 years old when we adopted her and she retired from a Florida track early because of her incredible nervousness and shyness. She still gets very nervous in new situations. She's Mommy's little girl.

Well, about a year later I wanted to adopt a cat or kitten. After arguing back and forth -- hubby wanted another greyhound -- my dearest husband won out and found our next rescue over the internet at the website of the organization we adopted MeiMei. Well, he said to me one day, "Let's just go meet her and see what we think." LOL  yeah right, "just meet her!!!" He's nuts. Well, we went to meet Starlight and when she came barreling through the door and was a complete maniac (think Stitch when he first enters Lilo's house) and so hyper and excited and all over the place! I just about cried because EB fell in love with her and I was so apprehensive mostly because she was SO DIFFERENT than my precious angel MeiMei. Of course, hubby won that battle and I didn't get my kitty. Starlight the maniac came home with us and after two or three days of me crying because she was such a handful, MeiMei seemed to fall for her and Star has been with us ever since. It only took me about a week or so to adjust and Star calmed down a little. Just a little, though -- but the great thing about her is that she really helped MeiMei to come out of her shell. MeiMei was so incredibly backwards and shy that it was a huge feat whenever we'd get her to wag her tail. Now she does it all the time. She and Star play and race each other around the yard, lay together around the house, etc.

They are the two best decisions we've ever made. I love them so so SO much! I talk about them like most people talk about their kids. I just love all animals and wish we could rescue every last one of them. In fact, if I had my druthers I'd have a house-ful and a yard-ful of rescued animals.

The worst part of going away for us is leaving our girls. We will never kennel them and always hire a friend or family member to house/dog sit.

I have pictures of my little angels here if you are interested:
http://community.webshots.com/album/78766794ATFrVE

Thank you all for asking about them. I would recommend greyhounds to everyone who has a little more love and tlc to give.

Great pics Melody! Meimei and Starlight look like they've taken well to their parents. :)

Unfortunately, there is a greyhound track not too far from us in Tampa. Every time we go to the SPCA or Humane Society there are always many greyhounds up for adoption. A couple of animal rights groups are working on a constitutional amendment to ban the practice and hopefully they'll succeed.

Ok ... with all these animal lovers onboard there's a need to be careful. We cannot be falling in love with any of the animals at the ports (domestic or wild) and trying to smuggle them on the ship. :D

I was watching an episode of "Airplane" on A&E channel last week. Its a live documentary type series where they do things going on at an airport. This poor woman was so heart broken because she couldn't bring her new puppy with her. She didn't realize the regulations regarding that and thought she could just carry the little fella on. Boy was that tear jerker with her crying at the check-in counter! Happy ending though, she left the dog with her daughter in that city and she brought the puppy over a month later.

I hate the animal racing business - horse and greyhound, but at least horses have it better (since most go into breeding). Thank you for sharing that with us. I think it gives us all a new understanding and appreciation for rescued animals. And I do so hate boarding my pets, even though they are at the Vet Clinic Boarding - still and all - how could one sneak a chihuahua on the ship??????? Maybe he could be a "seeing eye" dog!!!

For the first time I am not concerned about the Documents - maybe I am crazy but hey, booking so late, I can't expect them to get here as quickly as those of you who have waited it out!

well i guess we are in the same boat docs-wise, as well as cruise-wise. lol. ours haven't come yet, how did you get that racking number, doc? would like to check into that.

some of us started packing, after picking up dw's cases from repair center, i figured that she would get going but she hasn't yet. i bought her a new garment bag on wheels at the shop, she was pretty happy, and i wqas too because it was on clearance and i saved over $100, woohoo.

time is counting down to c-day, and i've got to finish painting the house and fix the gate so the twins don't escape again while we are gone. we have twin goldens, luke and leia, who spent a little time at the pound earlier this summer when we went camping. ourneighbor came over to feed and water them and they were gone, kinda freaked him out, not to mention us, but it got straightened out and now i need to put a safety latch on the gate.

hopefully we will all get those docs today.

I had called DCL to check on the status of our documents (I actually called the wrong DCL number, but the CM was very nice about helping anyway rather than pushing me on to someone else). When he told me that they had been sent out, I realized from Verandah Man's earlier post on another thread that I could probably ask for a tracking number and so I did. The CM was real nice about giving it to me. It really helped add to the fun to be able to track the documents on the way to our house.

Jason and Travis,

How are things going with Hurricane Charley? Sounds like a lot of people are being evacuated. Are you guys still OK?

I know there are a few fellow cruisers about to experience Hurricane Charley with me. Good luck to all of you. We're about to clear our garage out to hold another car and we need to move our outdoor furniture inside the house. This thing is going to come right over us as a Cat.3 hurricane. Hard to believe.

We'll just keep thinking about our cruise coming up in three weeks! See you guys soon!

Hi all--

We're here too. North Clearwater (Tampa Bay) to be exact. A lot of people are leaving Pinellas (Level C Evacuation order) and people are now leaving Hilsborough (Level C) now as well. The newspapers are reporting that the evacuation orders cover about 800,000 people between Pinellas (380,000) and Hilsborough (420,000).

The stores are crazy, as expected, and I don't think there's a single C or D battery left in the county. No water, flashlights, or duct tape either! :)

We're in a non-evacuation zone so we won't be going anywhere. Just bought a few groceries and will start bringing the outdoor stuff inside in a bit. We made sure we were OK on cat food and human food and had a few candles and matches. I guess we'll be taking it as we go.

Doctor P--

We're still good to go so far. Just had to brave the stores! Think Christmas time at Wal Mart with an "Everything 50% off" sale going on! :hyper:

We'll be sure to keep you guys up to date!

Snack size pekingnese huh? Not sure if She-she is gonna like that description. You know how sensitive she is. You'll be lucky if she gives you any kisses for that one babe..

Speaking of kisses..shes at my right foot right now licking away. For some reason my little one has this fixation on my feet. (Yes, babe I know I encourage her.)

Yea, she's my little baby for sure. Even if she does give her big brother Lobo a hard time at times.

Too bad you can't take small dogs on board. I could just see her running up and down the passageways. Unfortunately she is not a big kid puppy. Very few kids can even get near her. Especially little blonde headed boys.

But I'd love to have a pic of her being held by Mickey Mouse. She actually a pair of small mickey mouse ears that I got the last time I was at Disney World. You tie them on.

Anyway, I keep telling Paul that Disney World should really create their next hotel where they allow pets. Matter o'fact when we stayed at one of the Universal hotels they had room service for pets. That's really a market they could explore. They could have an onsite groomer, vet, all sorts of pet friendly options. Bet all kinds of people would jump on that one.

I totally agree! There should be a Disney hotel that allows pets! Don't worry, when I'm a zillionaire you better believe I will be responsible for one of those!

I still don't understand why I can't take my two 70lb+ girls onboard with us. Just slap some mickey ears on them and nobody would know the difference. They look just like their Mommy! ;)

Heard the report this AM and looks bad for our friends, Jason and Travis and a few others there. We can just pray that (1) the hurricane diverts or (2) damage is minimal and insurance will cover it without any hassles.

Having been through one hurricane and the storms associated with lots of hurricanes, I hope the storm weakens a lot very quickly. At least with hurricanes there is typically a fair amount of time to prepare and buckle down. Just hope there isn't much damage and that this weeks cruisers are minimally affected (especially in terms of flying in today).

Hi again, 9/4/04 cruisers! :wave2:

I wanted to check in on Jason and Travis, wondering if they are in the mandatory evac zone. The good news is that Charley is turning more easterly, so the Tampa area may not take a direct hit. The bad news is that it's been upgraded to catagory 4, and is looking to hit Sanibel Island/Fort Myers.

It's also tracking toward us, here in NE FL, for later tonight. We're under flood and tornado watches for the next 16 hours, as well as tropical storm/hurricane warning. Good luck, everyone!

Hey there. No we are not in an evacuation area. Looks like it is going to hit a bit south of here. Looked as if we were the target for the last day or so, but it took a right turn somewhat. It would have been a very bad storm though, now that it's a cat 4. Remember that's what Andrew was. Hopefully everyone in Ft. Myers and Port Charlotte will be OK. It's cloudy here right now, very still outside. We've only had one feeder band come through so far. Other than that now I'm bored. Everything is closed so there is nothing to do. I hope Disney is able to re-open tomorrow morning. :D Talk to you all soon.
