Just curious about what the Backlot Tour is like now...Is the residential street blocked off already and is construction underway for the new stunt show? I haven't been on the tour in several years and would appreciate an update.
Thanks!!

We were there just last week and I never even saw the residental area. I had remembered it from previous trips but it seems to me that all those houses were gone!
We were able to see through parts of the fence and it was all torn up and alot of digging and drilling going on.

Residential street is COMPLETELY demolished. We didn't like the tour, kinda felt like we were seeing a whole lot of nothing....just the outsides of plain buildings "this happened here" etc. I hope they work on it a little more and make it a little more interesting, because as of now it stinks. If I remember anything else important, I'll let ya know.

Residential Street is gone and they've temporarily replaced it by adding more actual Studios work, as opposed to a quick runby in the past.

It was pretty disappointing.. no residentail street, and it seemed like the tram basically went in a circle in the parking lot!
The most excititng thing was seeing Buzz, Woody and Jessie, emerge for a character meet and greet!

Does that mean that "The Golden Girls" house is gone ..... and the "Empty Nest" house is gone ? Boo Hoo

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far! We'll probably have only one day at the Studios and I'm trying to prioritize the attractions so we're sure to hit the best ones...and leave those we're not wild about for last in case we can't see them all. I'm not interested in driving in a circle in the parking lot!! But, I think we'd enjoy Catastrophe Canyon and the Pearl Harbor part (they do still do those things, right?). How long is the current tour?

They still do Catasprphe Canyon, and instead of Pearl Harbor, its called Harbor Attack.. with I think 3 or four extras, and slightly more entertaining..
Actually I was incredibly disappointed.. the props they showed were for ancient movies, and not very impressive to begin with.
We saw and heard construction noise the entire time as well..
The circle in the parking lot was an indirect circle it seemed like.. around construction, around buildings, around residential avenue...
In fact, they didn't even tell us what was coming, but thanks to the DIS boards... I knew more!

We were there last week and construction was in full gear. They had a fence up and every foot or so there was a hole that you could look through. The CM's just said that it was "something" being built and that it was slated to open in late 2004.
The tour is still a decent one especially if the seamstresses are working. We saw one making a bejeweled head piece and the driver stopped for a minute or so so that we could watch. You don't get "wet" per say on the canyon part although they say that the left will get soaked and the right wet. I was on the left and got but a few drops on my leg. DH was on the right and got nothing at all.
