This will be our 2nd Disney cruise, and it will also be our Honeymoon. I am just doing an early check in to see who's going. We had an awesome group for our last cruise, hopefully we will again.

Hi,

We were on the 8/16 Western and will be returning for the 8/21 Eastern next year.

Seems that some of our companions are traveling in Sept. next year. Maybe they will change their minds and join us again next year... :-)

Aug. 21, 2004 Eastern Magic check in list

Having done two Western Caribbean Magic cruises, we are SO looking forward to the new Eastern itinerary.

Jennifer, at the Dis meet onboard the Magic we'll most certainly have to include a champagne toast to the lovely new bride and her dashing groom - Mr. & Mrs. disney3144...

8-21-04 Add Us On!!!

While on our 8-23-03 cruise last week, we rebooked for 8-21-04 next summer, and plan on keeping that date as long as nothing major happens between now and then. This will also be our second "MAGICal" cruise, and I know to keep my glasses off next time I go Banana Boat Riding!!!

I need to change my coundown clock, and also get started typing my TR up, I have it sitting here beside me, just have to get motivated to start typing it in, it's 15 pages of handwritten notes!!!

Be still my heart.....

I can't believe that we will have both BD and Verandah man on the same cruise.

WOW. This just adds to the excitement. But August 04 does seem soooooo far away!

Now if we could just convince the Three Circles to change their date!!!!! the trip would be complete. :-)

We also booked 8/21 eastern while on the 8/16 western this year. Probably ran into a lot of you, but didn't notice (sorry). Maybe next year (DH, DW, DS (6then), DD (10then) and DGrandpa (too old to say) we will make the board meets.

Well Jennifer -

Sarah has been most upbeat in convincing Donald and I to join you all. If I have my way (and my pocketbook opens up), I can almost for certain say we will be joining you.

Maybe this time we'll even make it to brunch! :D

DH and I discussed a cruise. I did some research...and booked the August 21, 2004 Magic cruise. Then I really started to explore this board....and I found all of you guys (and gals)!!

I was hesitant to post at first, because you all seem to know each other so well....so I hope to get to know you all, too! My daughters will be 9 and 11 next summer, and I am hoping to hook them up with some online friends before our trip. Please let me know if you have children that are interested.

I can't wait to add my countdown clock and start PLANNING!

Welcome lalapodip! A number of us were "strangers" before the 8/16/03 cruise. We were very fortunate to have met such wonderful people during our cruise!

There are a number of children around your DD's ages on this sailing. Our DD will be 8 next year. Send us an email!

That would be great to have you guys onboard!!! We will definately have to make up that brunch that we missed!

Welcome to the DIS lalapodip. This is a great group of people here on this board. Will this be your 1st Disney cruise? If s, your going to love it. They are not joking when they say its addicting.
And planning is half the fun.

Yes, this WILL be our first Disney cruise. :D It is so exciting to plan for something new. We started thinking about the cruise in April, but it was way too expensive to go this summer (the Fairytale Package "forced" us to go to WDW instead...)! I was pleasantly surprised when I priced out next August. I can't wait to MEET everyone - here on the boards, and on board the Magic. Okay, okay, I went a little overboard on the puns... please forgive me??

lalapodip...that's great, glad you could join us on 8/21. I actually have 2 boys that will be 9 & 12 next year, but we are not bringing them this time. ;) They had the time of their lives though when we went on 8/16. There is so much for everyone to do, I hardly even seen my children. Your family is going to have a blast!!

We have not booked yet, but are planning on sailing on the 8/21 cruise next year. We are DVC members using points so we can't book till later this month. We have a DS who will be 12 and a DD who will turn 10 during the cruise. We have sailed on the Magic twice before, 7 day eastern in 2002 and 4 day in 2000.

I know the feeling Mike, we have to call DCL and cancel that ressie, and call DVC to make a new ressie. In order to keep the same cabin, the CM told my wife to have DCL on one phone and DVC on another phone at the same time, so we can cancel and book at the same time. That shoudn't be any problem since we have our home phone line, and three cell phones in the house, LOL!!!

09-04-2003, 03:56 PM
Andy - I don't think it's that complicated. I believe all you have to do is call DVC and tell them you made the ressie on board and you want to make it with points. I'm pretty sure that's what Candace told me when I talked to her in July.

Sorry for intruding, but since I was unable to convince you all to come with us on the 7th, I wanted to see who's the better group. You all have a lot of catching up to do. We're already on page 11 :)

BTW, I forgot to mention, Welcome to the DISboards!!! Come back and visit more often!!! I found out from our 8-23-03 cruise, it was nice knowing a lot of other people that we would be cruising with. I'm sure this group of 8-21-04 DIS'ers will have some DISmeets planned as well!!!

On the 8-23-03 cruise we had three different gatherings planned, Friday night 8-22 at the Radisson, Saturday 8-23 after the Safety Drill, and Thursday 8-28 Brunch at Palo in the private room.

Get to know other DIS'ers before the cruise, it makes for a more enjoyable time!!!

It was funny you mentioned that Mike, I had a dream about that last night, that we were staying in a cabin on the ship where the two halves were put together. My side of the bed was on one side and my DW side of the bed was on the other. We had a line running down the middle of the bed with a sign that read, "Do Not Cross" at least I didn't dream that the ship was coming apart!!! LOL!!!

Hey Andy.

I had a dream about that last night, that we were staying in a cabin on the ship where the two halves were put together. My side of the bed was on wide side and my DW side of the bed was on the other. We had a line running down the middle of the bed with a sign that read, "Do Not Cross"

At least the sign didn't read, "Caution: Exposed Nuts!"...

We booked a room at the radisson the night before the cruise. We got the room for $89.00. We figured, we would have to pay $70.00 to park at the port, this way we get there the night before and can leave our car at the hotel. Saves on parking.

Hey Andy.

We are planning on leaving that Wednesday morning, before the cruise, and drive down next year.

I guess you never saw the post I left for you on the trip report board. We are going to be leaving the thursday before the cruise. Taking amtrak down. Will arrive in Orlando on friday. Plan to rent a car for overnight to drive to the Radisson, visit dear Shirley at The Perfect Gift and maneuver the family over to port in the morning.

After experiencing delayed travel due to the blackout, we will leave TWO days before the ship departs rather than just one...

My sister and I will be there too! We sailed on the August 30th Western and had a BLAST, so we rebooked for next year. We ended up meeting a bunch of people on-board who we hung out with all week and we are hoping they will all be coming that week as well. Because of my sister's school schedule (she is in college and is supposed to start an internship next summer) she MIGHT not be able to come, which is why we are also booked for May - but she really wants to go in August and will do everything she can to be there!!! Either way, I'm on the cruise!!! We booked our family trip in February all on points, which is allowing us to go next summer as well. This seemed to be a very popular choice for next summer as I saw many people booking it with Donna on-board. I just can't wait to be back visiting with all my new friends!!! (We participated in many on-board activities and got to know the cruise staff quite well so we are missing Joshua, Trevor, Ryan, Karen, SheShe, and Andrea lots right now!!!)

Howdy neighbor, I'm just across the river from Philadelphia. The 46+ inches of snow last year was enough to last us 10 years, as far as I'm concerned. Let's pray for a more mild, less snowy winter this coming season!!!

We made out rather well until this morning, when the Delaware River reached high tide. We had several streets inour area under water. My five minute drive to work took 15 minutes. Our power went out for a few seconds this afternoon due to the high winds still hanging around. I came home from work to see clocks flashing. Oh, to be back on the Magic again!!!

We just arrived home from our first cruise on 8-30-03. I have a trip report on my website, if you would like to read it, go to www.verandahman.com and in the left hand column click on 2003 MAGICal Trip Report.

Denise5374....We are also outside of philly. About 45 minutes to the west. Actually we are in CHester County. The same area that got hit hard on Monday during all of that rain.
We got hit a bit harder here from Isabel. Most people where I am still do not have power. Many streets were flooded and therefore shut down. Getting to work yesterday was an adventure.

I'm just ready for another cruise!!!!!

My DW was finally able to get our ressies switched after several attempts, the DCL computers were down this morning for a while. We are using points for DW and myself and paid cash for DD and her Dfriend. Speaking of which, will we need any special forms from our DD's Dfriend's parents? This is the first we are bringing one of DD's friends along.

Depending on how many people you are traveling with, it could be cheaper and more comfortable to use one of the town car services to and from the port.

This past August we rented a car and drove from MCO to the Radisson, dropped it off Saturday morning at Avis, then the following Saturday, rented another car from Avis drove up to Titusville for lunch at "Dixie Crossroads" for some "Rock Shrimp" then drove back to MCO for our flight home. Next August we are driving to Florida.

We just booked the 8/21 sailing. Our family went on the Magic Western sailing on August 17,2002, and we thought it was the best family vacation we had ever taken. Our daughter will be 12 and our son will be 10 when we leave. Linda's and my parents will be joining us, too, so we've got 3 cabins and 8 people between us. We are really looking forward to the trip and to meeting some of you on board!

Hey dannyb glad you came over to join us!!!

I made door magnets for this past August cruise for all the DIS'ers that gave me there name for our cruise list. I just tweaked this years design to use for August '04. I will have to see about getting more door magnets, the company I bought the last magnets with went out of business. I'm sure I can find another brand. The magnets I made for this year were 3.5" round. I'm going to try Avery and see if they carry this size. I'm attaching a photo below what the door magnets will look like.

I might have to make a few adjustments to the magnet size, I haven't been able to find any 3.5" round magnets on the net.

What a nice thing to do! We will particularly appreciate that, because it is our family tradition to get a refrigerator magnets as vacation souvenirs.

I can't believe the level of discussion on this trip 11 months out - - I'm guessing a lot of us booked w/ DVC at the 11-month window, right?? The rep I spoke w/ said I was her first call of the day this past Monday :jester:

Yes, I can "teel" you are somewhat excited. Good luck keeping the secret until Christmas. Just don't let my wife around your kids. On our cruise last year, there was a couple from the Chicago area that were surprising their 3 kids about the cruise. My wife asked the kids on the way from the Radisson to the port, "Are you excited about going on the cruise?" Up until that point, the cruise had been a surprise for the children. Needless to say, my wife felt about 2 inches tall, the funny thing was, we kept running into this family on the ship. The father is known as "Laundry Man" in my trip report.

We will be in cabin 2118.

I've heard that people have put their children on a treasure hunt, and at the end of the hunt could have a photo of the Magic being held by Mickey Mouse. How old are your children?

Just an idea.

About the "teel" I had three typos went I sent my last message, you are right, I always use spell check when sending out e-mails. Sure could use spell check here as well, LOL!!!!!!!!!

Hey Credit Man - We do have three cruises planned, but the May cruise is actually up in the air. My sister is a sophomore in college and is supposed to be doing an internship next summer so she may not be able to come with me in August. She really wants to go again so we planned this just in case. I am however definitly going in August because the group of people we met this year on board will most likely be going again this week. Honestly, I think she will just take a week off of the internship. As for february, we are using DVC points and annual passes that need to be used (great excuse...haha). None of the trips seem soon enough....work is driving me nuts!!!

My DH and I haven't told anybody else that we are going, for just that reason, things have a way of "slipping out". Any thoughts on how to tell them?? We were going to put something into a Christmas card but any more creative ideas would be appreciated.

There is a nice plush sold on the Magic/Wonder: DCL ship with Mickey, Minnie (Goofy & Donald?). You could use it as part of the treasure hunt or by itself. I thought I had seen this for sale on the web (Amazon?)? If not and you are interested, please let me know and I can pick one up for you on our next sailing (November on the Wonder).

Need Help I need help convincing someone to book the August 21, 2004 sailing. We met on the August 16, 2003 Magic cruise and had a lot of fun with him!! If you can help send him encouragement, please send me an email and I'll send you his email address. (He'll never know what hit him!) :teeth:

Also, has anyone been on the DCL website in the past couple of days? They upgraded the site yesterday and I participated in a survey today. Questions included pre-booking Palo and spa reservations on-line, checking in on-line, and trip planning screens that may be personalized for individual trips. (I should have printed the computer screens of the survey).

Of Course, I always make us tee shirts for our vacations, DD thinks it's corny and uncool, but what would you expect from a teenager, LOL!!!

I already have 50 business card size magnets here at home, these will be a gift from me, as they were for our 8-03 cruise. I guess we will need to get a cruise list going. I'm not into football as much as I used to be. A few years ago, I would watch college games on Saturday and pro games on Sunday, but I don't watch that much anymore. Sunday is more for family time, especially now that DD is getting older. We've got to get in the quality time while we still can. In a few short years, she'll be on her own.

Hi Dneise 5374,

I am not sure when exactly we recieved out cruise docs this year. I guess about 30 days prior to sail??? So we won't know our flight times until then. Like I said, we requested early afternoon flights down, so I hope since we booked so early that this request will be granted.

There were quite a few Dis Cruisers on our flight and most of us were seated together, so we had alot of fun talking about the trip. One lady was a cruise veteran and was telling is all we needed to know about check in and making reservations etc once on board.

thanks

Isn't that the truth. Our DD 11yrs old has done a 360 turn. All of the sudden miss independent wants me to make her Halloween costume again??? Wasn't cool to have a home made custome for the last few yrs???? Why the change???? Whatever the reason I am kind of glad except for she picked a rather intricate renaissance princess gown for this year....So I know what I will be doing for the next few weeks. :-)

I think that this is what I enjoyed most about the cruise was the family oriented atmosphere and relaxed pace...except for when DH, DD and I were all trying to get ready for dinner at the same time....Family time was the center of the whole trip.

I can't wait to go again and think I will really enjoy the extra day at sea!!!!

Have a nice day!

I checked over the weekend on Amtrak's website, and for four of us, it would cost $1200.00, just curious, what kind of rate did you get Mike?

We're not flying next year b/c DD's Friend is afraid of flying, so we had planned on driving down. BD, mentioned he and his family were going by train next year, that's when I checked into Amtrak and got this price, that's not a sleeper either.

denise5374
10-08-2003, 12:13 PM
I di the same thing...the rate for train fare only was $500 but to get a sleeper it was almost $1900.00. Not to mention that the train left Philadelphis at 1:30pm Friday and didn't get into Orlando until 11:45am Saturday!!! Thats a mighty long train ride!!!!

Has anyone taken the train to Florida?? How far is the Train station to the Port??

How long does it take to drive there???

$1200 seems high to me.....

Verandah Man
10-08-2003, 12:23 PM
We've driven to Florida many, many, many, times since 1983. We stop in Lumberton, NC for an overnight rest.

To drive straight through, which I've done twice (never again) took me about 18 hours.

I just went back to Amtrak's website and found an unreserved ressie, changing trains in Washington, D.C. for a total of $564.00 for all four of us. Might consider booking this.

I've never traveled by train before, what is unresereved like???

Any info would be appreciated!!!::yes::

There is a great informative thread on the Transportation Board regarding the AutoTrain.
The fare for the 4 of us and our car, leaving on the 19th of Aug, returning on the 3rd of Sept is $642. This is for coach.
The train leaves Lorton, Va. (just south of D.C.) at 4pm and arrives in Sanford, Fl. at 8:30am. Sanford is about 30 min. north of WDW.
When you consider air fare and the cost of a rental, this works out to be a great deal. My kids love the train and consider it a fun part of vacation.

Thanks Mike, I'll go over there and check that out!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I got a quote on the Autotrain for the 4 of us for $642.00 roundtrip. This is not a sleeper, the cost for a sleeper was about $1200.oo and I don't think it would be worth it.

My only concern now is that the train is supposed to be in Sanford at 8:30 am Saturday morning...Am I cutting it to close??

Credit Man
10-08-2003, 03:59 PM
Denise,
I would say, from experience, that if you are planning to arrive on the Saturday of the cruise, I would not recommend taking the AutoTrain. Although it is generally close to on time. It does sometimes run late.
We are planning to arrive the day before the cruise to alleviate any stress.

Hi Andy and all.

. BD, mentioned he and his family were going by train next year

We are going down via Amtrak but not on the auto-train. New York to Orlando is approximately 24 hours. You don't want to do this without accommodations aboard the train. The deluxe bedrooms are a fortune but the "viewliner" rooms (aka closets) aren't bad for an overnight. Plus, when you book a sleeper all of the meals onboard the train are included. You get to have a very nice, relaxing sit-down meal served in simple elegance with good opportunity to meet fellow travelers. The staff encourages guests to linger over dinner and enjoy the ride, so to speak.

The viewliner rooms are very tiny, but comfortable. When we last took Amtrak sleepers (which was also our first time, lol) we had the viewliner room for the first night. Buckaroo took the elevated bunk bed while I had the lower berth. We were able to close the door, stand on the very minimal floor area one at a time and change clothes. Need to go to the bathroom? No problem. The seat right next to the bottom bunk bed's "feet area" lifts up to a toilet with a sink a little above it. Tight but private. If you happen to suffer from gas, your roommate won't have to with the air-conditioning controls in the "room."

Each stateroom has a small tv with three continuous movies showing on one of the channels. Plus all sleeper guests have use of a sittingroom car which is quite confortable and airy. Sodas and "light snacks" (I said 'light,' not diet) are available during non-dinner times.

Andy - I priced a roundtrip family of four (two adults/two children) with AAA discount in two viewliner sleeper rooms. The roundtrip was around $1200. We are only taking Amtrak down to Orlando. For the return we're going to fly. At least, as far as present planning is concerned...

I presented my proposals to the three "ladies" I am traveling with, this is the response I got.

1 voted to travel by plane

1 voted to travel by train

1 voted to travel by car

I think I will travel by camel, LOL!!!

Now, I'm right back where I started, I'm glad we have 10 more months before this upcoming cruise.

If anyone is interested, please send me an email and I will address and send postcards from the ship next month (we'll try to have Mickey & Minnie sign them all). ;)

Hi All,
I am a first time poster and first time cruiser. I have been lurking here for awhile now. The DIS boards were invaluable in the planning of our first family trip to WDW in 2002. My family complained constantly that I was always on the computer but while on our trip they were amazed at how great the trip was thanks to the DIS boards and all of the great tips.
There are four of us travelling on the Magic on August 21st, my DH, DD (13), DS(10) and myself. We hope to stay at the Radisson on Friday night and will be spending a couple of days at WDW after our drive from Ontario, Canada.
We are so.............. exited!!!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc

Since I work outside for a living reading water meters, I come home at lunch and after work and put a heating pad on my knees(arthritis). This weekend I will be spending indoors, with low temps in the single digits, I have no desire to go outside. I am NOT a cold weather person, I like it at about 75-80 with a nice breeze blowing!!!

Thanks Mike...any thoughts on where? I would assume somewhere in northern/central NJ.....an equal srive for all who would be interested. I am not familiar with NJ above TrentonPrinceton...what do you think???

How far is everyone willing to drive? Would you want to meet for lunch, a restaurant or a park????

Maybe something like a mall food court. this way we would have a chance to eat and chat without feeling rushed. I am in Freehold and we have a nice one. As far as driving, I would not have a problem with any reasonable distance.
Anybody else have any thoughts?

Mike, I don't even know how far Freehold is from me. Or for that mastter where in NJ Freehold is. I am familiar with rt.1 in the or the Pa Turnpike onto the NJ turnpike...are you near there??

Anybody else want to chime in here? Are you interested in doing something like this and where are you coming from???

I'm not very good with landmarks. If I say we are 10 miles east of Six Flags Great Adventure does that help any?

We are about one hour south of Great Adventure, which we pass on the way to my DW's brother's house in Bradley Beach, NJ. Other than going to the Bradley Beach area, that's about all I know of North Jersey. I'm a Southern New Jersey boy at heart.

We could always meet at Great Adventure...a little cold this time of year.

So what do you all think? Somewhere near Freehold, is there a mall somewhere? But I don't know anything up there........or you all can drive to PA......How abour Quaker Bridge Mall?? That is the only mall I know in NJ.

For those who are planning on being at the Radisson (8-20-04) the night before the cruise, we can also have a small DISmeet around the pool. We did this the night before our cruise this past August, and had a nice time, even though some were delayed b/c of weather, it was still a nice time to meet and greet. We had the meet planned for 8pm with a pizza party at poolside, well, my family was one of many that were delayed b/c of thunderstorms. We arrived at the Radisson around 7:45pm, unloaded the car, changed into our lime green DIS
t-shirts, and rushed down to the pool area. There we did see a few DIS'ers already meeting. It was still raining a bit off and on, but we sat around and talked and looked at photos and scrapbooks that fellow DIS'ers had brought with them from previous cruises.

This year, my family is driving down to Florida, and we plan on being at the Radisson by early Friday afternoon. Should we schedule a DISmeet and greet for Friday evening, say 8pm at poolside.

We can also plan a DISmeet and greet on the ship. We also did this last August, but we had our meet and greet on Saturday between the safety drill and sail away party, and it felt much to rushed. I was thinking maybe a meet and greet early Sunday afternoon in the Promenade Lounge. I'm open for any other suggestions. One point of note, we had first planned for our DISmeet to be on deck 9 behind Topsiders, but it's a good thing we changed our minds before the cruise b/c it was storming at sail away time, and the sail away party was held on deck 3.
