Any more takers for the private St. John trip - we have 22 people thus far (13 adults, 9 children, ages 7 - 16)?

I was able to reserve a private charter to St. John for our St. Thomas stop on Tues, Aug 24. This was quite a bit tricker than I had expected, because almost all of the private charters have smaller boats that will accomodate only 6 people. I did find an outfitter (that was recommended by a couple of the other outfitters that I had contacted) that has 2 boats that can handle significantly larger groups. They have two boats, a catamaran that can hold up to 20, and a tri-maran that can hold 25+. The one we would charter will depend upon the number of people who want to come.
We would leave at 9 and return at 4. The cost is $110/pp plus gratuity. Kids under 12 are half-price. The price includes all snorkeling equipment & instruction, a continental breakfast (fruit & banana bread), lunch buffet (lobster salad or Caribbean chicken), snacks, and an open bar. We need bring only towels and sunscreen. :sunny: I'll be paying the same rate for my group - - I'm not getting anything for putting this together. I just thought it would be fun to have our own outing!
We will stay clear of the busier beaches. The first stop will be an uninhabited island.
If we can get 20+ people signed up, then we can have the ship to ourselves. My group of 8 is going. Please contact me to sign up - either send me a PM or e-mail me at dblinn@consumerlawgroup.com If responding by e-mail, request a receipt. I get so much spam that private e-mails are not guaranteed to reach me!
Here is the website for the outfitter: http://www.daydreamervi.com
I hope that some of you can join us.

Dannyb,
What time are you arriving at the Radisson on Friday night? We should plan a DIS meet at the pool? I thinkthis was mentioned many months ago ...so what do you think??
Who else is at the Radisson??

Last year we set up a DISmeet around the Radisson pool at 8pm on the Friday night before the sail away. We really had a nice time getting to meet one another, even though we had some thunderstorms go through the area. You will be surprised how often you run into other DIS'ers on the ship, that you might not have met otherwise.
See y'all next month :wave2:

I'm not making any promises, but who knows, we might even take a ride over Friday night and spend some time around the pool with y'all. It all depends on the weather, and how relaxed we are at the Westgate Vacation Villas on Friday, LOL!!!

We finally got our cabin assignment.....was really hoping for an upgrade....no such luck. I think our original assignment was better...... now we have Cabin #2004. It looks like the view may be obstructed???? There's some sort of space between window and edge of ship?? Any one have a clue what I'm talking about?? Thanks.

Andy, thank you so much for the disney card. My 9yr daughter was excited when she saw the envelope and knew that we received something from Disney.
Does the meet after the fire drill interferes with the sailing away party? I have in-laws coming as well and I don't want to ditch them
:hyper:
Regarding formal night and Palos, my DH will be wearing a suit and I a little black dress. My 9yr DD and 5yr DS will not be eating with us those nights. We also are jeans and tshirt people and will not spend $$ on fancy stuff for one night.

wow lots of post yesterday. I wasn't on because it was my bday and i spent it with the boys. We went to the Seattle Aquarium. It was so cool. We watched them feed the octopus and seahorses. The boys kept asking if we will see these fish when we snorkle. We had lunch outside and then dinner with the family yesterday. Very nice day, it ended with some beautiful earing that my sweet hubby had made for me. I can't wait to show them off on the cruise.:p

We will be at the Ron Jon on Fri. Is anyone else there? Maybe we could have a meet there also.
Also does anyone know if they show baseball (like the Cardnals) games in the Sports Bar? They are doing so well right now we will want to keep up with the team that week!
We are getting so close now, it is exciting!
We are also going with the suit and black dress option for formal night. For us that is dressed up!:D

I'm so jealous, I wish we could go to the Radission too. We will be at the Hyatt Friday, but we won't have a car. I guess we'll just have to wait till Saturday to meet everyone.
And yes Denise I am SUCH a night owl. After I finally turned the computer off at about 2am, I then went to bed and read for about an hour and a half. I'm reading Angels & Demons and it's so good I had to force myself to put it down and turn off the light.

Just signing in (out) for the weekend. Our DD will be spending the majority of her summer break with family in the Bay Area. So I'll be flying tomorrow (and get back in the afternoon to meet friends at Disneyland).
Regarding Amy's question, there is a half hour "gap" between the emergency drill and the sailaway party. We'll just have time to say a quick hello, take a few photos and head up for the party! Did we ever decide if we are having a second DIS meet (aside from the brunches)?
Debbie - I loved Angels & Demons. I stayed up to read it all in one sitting - it was really good! :D I've read all of Dan Brown's books since then!
Happy Belated Birthday Cher!

4 weeks from today, we sail away!!!
I had one of those pre-cruise dreams last night. After learning that our docs were on the way. In my dream, our docs had arrived and I discovered that we got an upgrade to a category 3 cabin. At first, I thought that was cool until I looked closer and saw that the cabin number was 3116. I woke up from the dream and said to myself, "This can't be true, there aren't any cabins on deck 3." I fell back to sleep and starting dreaming again, this time the docs stated that our cabin number was 4118, again I woke up and said the myself, "There aren't any cabins on deck 4 either." Then I said to myself, "Well, if we have a cabin on deck 3, or deck 4, at least we know we don't have far to go to eat!!!" LOL!!!

I can definitely relate to this - DW and I went on a cruise (Celebrity) to celebrate an anniversary last March (we were celebrating our 15th, although it was two years prior - - long story).
Anyway, I was going a little nuts trying to find out what was going on with the Big East basketball championship game and then the first round of the NCAA tourney (we tend to get a little nuts that time of year in Connecticut). The cruise line had a little sports bar and satellite tv, but it only got some international version of ESPN. So, I knew precisely what was going on in Australian rules football, but I had to scramble for basketball info. We were in San Juan doing the muster drill during the closing minutes of the Big East championship game and I was on my cell phone getting a play by play from my father!
I don't think that will be as much of a problem on this cruise, with ESPN being part of the Disney family.

But if they lose at 5:30 they will have to play again at 7:30 and if they win a t 7:30, they go to states. Its a double elimination tournament.

Hi everyone,
My name is Debby and I have been trying to get in to say hi to everyone for over a week now. First my password kept disappearing and then I was not given permission to post anywhere. Webmaster Penny found something "odd" on her end and fixed me so here I am. I was beginning to feel unwanted.
My daughter (10 yrs) and I will be going on the August 21st cruise with all of you. I have been lurking for a couple weeks and have been so impressed with how nice and fun you all sound. I live in So. Cal about 30 miles north of DL (I am still trying to learn the secret code) and this will be our first Disney cruise. I can't wait I need a vacation especially after trying so hard to get into this site. I wanted to thank Andy for replying to my frantic email and connecting me with Penny and also introducing me to Sarah who has kindly had her daughter reach out to my very shy daughter. Again what awesome people. I am looking forward to meeting you all even if I am a newcomer.

Hi Debby,
I'm happy to see that you were finally able to make your first post here on our 8-21-04 San Juan Sojourners Cruise thread!!!
I had a feeling Penny would be able to help you.
In a few more days it will be August 1st, then we can sail we sail away THIS month!!!!!! Doesn't that sound good!!!!!!!
Sarah,
I know Walt's first idea for a character was a rabbit, not a mouse. When he decided on a mouse he first named him Mortimor(sp), but Walt's wife Lilly didn't care for that name and she is the one that suggested that Walt call the mouse MICKEY, and the rest they say is Disney history!!!

Good morning, all! So much to get caught up on.
Good luck, Brittany! I hope the weather clears for your game. Calling for storms again this afternoon.
Hi, Debby! Welcome aboard. Glad you will be joining us.
As for the trivia, I think Walt got the idea for a mouse on a train trip back home from NY, where he was told he had lost the rights to his first character, Oswald the rabbit.

Hi Debby.....Yeah, another Californian!!! I'll be traveling with my three girls (actually, my two, ages 13 and 6 months, and my 12 yo niece).
Andy.......We LOVE the shirts!!! Emilie's is absolutely adorable..... Can I get one for each day in a different color!?!?!?!? When the shirts arrived on Friday, Chelsea got the mail and came running in.... "We got something from the Walters, we got something from the Walters....our shirts are here!!!!" She knows your address label already, and is in awe or how you make all these cool things!!!
One question.......A while ago there was some discussion about hotels with beaches/pools in San Juan that allow day use. How do we find out about these, the rates, what they offer, etc. Some one had posted a link of San Juan activites, but I couldn't find the day use hotels.... I think this is what we're gonna want to do......relax by a BIG pool.....etc.... THANKS!!!!!

Welcome Debby!
Andy and Mike - You guys are up way to early and you beat me to the trivia questions.
Here's another one.
Walt made a cartoon that won an Academy Award (the first cartoon to ever win an Acadamy Award) What was the name of the cartoon?
jweiss
07-28-2004, 12:24 PM
When Walt was a young boy (around 10, I think) he found a mouse in a field in the snow. He took it home and it became his pet. He even took it to school, to work. The idea of the mouse goes back to this, his first pet. Can't remember the rest, but we have it in a book at home.....Chelsea did a report on it for school last year.....

It's a curse, I get up every morning between 5 and 6. It's usually a lot closer to 5 than 6, and I don't even have to leave for work until 7:30. Speaking of work, my lunchtime is coming to a close and I have to get moving.

Where did Walt Disney conceive the idea of the mouse?
On a train bound for L.A. from New York
Walt made a cartoon that won an Academy Award (the first cartoon to ever win an Acadamy Award) What was the name of the cartoon?
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs won an honorary Academy Award in 1939 for significant screen innovation.
Okay, how much did Snow White cost to produce?
Disney/Cheer Mom
07-28-2004, 01:28 PM
Here's a hint.
The cartoon that won an Academy Award was made in the early thirties.
Snow White cost approx. one million four hundred thousand.
How about Pinocchio, know how much that cost?
Maleficent59
07-28-2004, 01:44 PM
Best Short Subject, Cartoons: 1932 Flowers and Trees
Snow White cost: $1.499M. The amazing thing is that this was during the Depression! Yowzas!
Disney/Cheer Mom
07-28-2004, 02:14 PM
That is amazing. He used the profits to build a new studio in Burbank.
It's even more amazing that he even made a profit considering what it cost to see the movie.
Anyone know what it cost to see Snow White?

Our docs just arrived and we have been upgraded from cabin 2118 to 7038!!! Hazel called me on my cell phone as soon as the docs arrived. Luckily, I was working in the area, so I stopped by the house, and found out about the upgrade!!!
My family and I would also like t-shirts in different colors. When can I put my order in?
Just send me an e-mail and I should still have time to make some more t-shirts for you. With the transfers I use, I can only put these on lighter pastel color t-shirts.
Gotta go back to work.

Congrats on the upgrade VM! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
I actually didn't know the cost of movies in 1937 (so I looked it up). In 1936, the average price of a movie ticket was $0.25 while in 1939 it was $0.23. However, Snow White received only about half of its gross earnings during its initial release. The rest of its earnings came from re-releases in the past couple of decades.
I knew Pinocchio cost >$2M to make, but couldn't recall the "exact" amount which is $2.3M (since I was in the research mode for movie prices).
Congrats on making settlement Denise! Exciting news! Wish Brittany well from us!

Hi everyone,
Andy,
My daughter received her postcard from Mickey today and she was thrilled. She told me that it made her feel special. I don't know the last time that she has said that to me. Thanks from the bottom of my heart and also thanks to however you asked to send the email. It is so touching that a complete stranger to us went out of their way to do something so special and meaningful.
Congrats on your room upgrade for all you do for other people and for Disney I think they should give you the Royal Suite "with verandah". At least you get my vote.
I changed rooms so that I could have a regular verandah and not a navigator's verandah. I hope that was the right decision so we have moved from the 7th floor to the 6th floor. Was that a good decision?
Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. I don't have docs either.

I guess it all comes down to personal choice. Some people like the Navigator's Verandah because it helps to block the wind when we are out at sea. I like the regular verandah, because I like the openess when sitting on the chair, or even looking out from the cabin.
Well fellow San Juan Sojourners, we are now down to the last three weeks until we sail away, and just two weeks until my family heads to the Sunshine State!!! I am so glad we decided to fly instead of making that long drive. See you all very soon!!!

Yes she will. Her name is Noelle. She's nervous again about meeting new friends. She joined the teens two years ago on our last cruise and had a blast. We hardly saw her the whole trip except for breakfast and dinner. Never came home till 2 am every night. I don't know why she is nervous about making friends again. I noticed that discrepancy, too. The itinerary that came with the ship's docs listed the 5:30 departure. I'm assuming that controls. These itineraries are all subject ot change. On our last cruise, they switched the order of two of the ports that we were stopping at. I sent an e-mail from on-board to a private tour guide that we had booked in Grenada to let him know we were coming a day later than anticipated, and we really didn't know what to expect when we arrived, but he had gotten the message.
Does anyone think they know how long we're really in port in St. Thomas?

Actually, I'm still wondering about that myself. Since we are not on an U.S. flagged boat, we are technically in the Bahamas on the Magic right, at least according to it's registry? In which case, we'd go through customs returning to a U.S. port. Otherwise, wouldn't that mean we'd only have one round of customs on sad day, i.e., debarkation?
I think I'm going to send off am email to DCL... I know, nit-picking

Actually I thouight it was the ports that you visit not the registraion of the ship. The immigration is when you leave the US port and visit a non-US port. On the 4-day cruise you do immigration once when you return to the US from the Bahamas, but since both of the ports are US we would only do immigration when we return from Castaway Cay which is in the Bahamas.
HUH???Was that really confyusing???

I just ordered tickets for Kennedy Space Center, which we'll go to on 8/20, and DQ, which we'll go to on 8/28 before catching a late afternoon plane home. DW and I had voted for SeaWorld (which we've never been to), but we let the kids make the pick.
DW was quite insistent on KSC, though - - she's wanted to do that the past several trips and it never quite worked out.
Anyone else doing KSC the day before the cruise?

I will probably be packing the morning we leave, since we are still in the process of moving and all of our bedroom furniture and clothes will not be moved until the 14th so this could be exciting!! SO we will be packing and unpacking at the same time!
Never said I had good timing!!!
We did KSC after our 2002 DCL, spent the afternoon there, it was pretty interesting, I loved the IMAX-type film they had...the food was expensive.
We are going to Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville the Saturday we disembarkl for lunch before we head to the train station. Being a huge Buffet fan, I can't wait!!!
The day before we cruise you will be able to find me at the Radisson pool!!

Angie, could you give me the address for this site. We also want to do the Rainforest but not with Disney. We were going to just take a cab there and back but I have no idea how much a cab would cost. Please send me any info you have. Thanks

Hi everyone.
We have been down here in Hatteras, NC this week on our annual family vacation. Boy, did we get an extra surprise this year. Hurricane Alex, which quickly and unexpectedly strengthened off the coast clipped the Outer Banks yesterday - right over us! It was a Category 2 storm and did some moderate damage. Phones and electric were out. Our house is 25 yards from the ocean and shook like we were in an earthquake from the wind which gusted to 120 mph. Our cars were flooded in the driveway. The water rose so fast...
We're figuring that since we experienced a hurricane on this trip, we should be spared another on the cruise!
We haven't gone out fishing yet since a lot of the boats and marinas suffered a lot of damage. No one expected the storm to be as devastating as it was. That's why we weren't even evacuated. There is still a lot of flooding, but it's starting to recede.
We'll talk to you all later!!!

Just got back from shopping. Got another outfit for dinner. I will start packing next week, when we get out suit cases.
I can't beleive that it is coming so soon.
I will miss the meeting at Ron Johns as we are flying in on Saturday Morning. My DH has to work up until we go. Late install at Microsoft. Good thing I scheduled a late flight for us, as he will proably be done right before we have to leave for the airport.
He is going to need this vacation. I am so glad that we can take it.

I've read about this but never done it. The word Snuba is a combination of snorkeling and scuba. It is easier to do than either one of them. You breathe through a hose that goes to an air tank that floats above you on the surface . That way, you can dive down a little ways (although not as far as w/ scuba). You also don't have to worry about the dangers of breathing compressed air at depth (for those not familiiar w/ it, there is a danger w/ scuba diving that your lungs can burst like a balloon if you hold your breath while surfacing - - but that is not a problem with SNUBA.
Another neat thing to look into for those still considering what to do in St. Thomas is those BOB scooters - you ride underwater on motorized scooters that have a hood. There is an air bubble, fed by an airtank attached to the scooter, and your head goes up in there. Typically, you will have scuba divers around you in case anything goes wrong. I've heard real good reports about these, and they are a good way for those w/out scuba training to get down close to the reef.
I'm certified to dive, but I usually don't bother in the Eastern Caribbean - - the real good diving is Western.

I just saw this post from someone on the Magic this week. Looks like we may be getting a new Castaway Club gift...
"The CC gift is a very nice navy blue blanket that shows the new Carribean islands and says something like "2004 Inaugaral Cruise". "
This person is posting on the 10/2/2004 Cruise Meet thread so it's a little off the beaten path. I posted that we'd love to hear what's new for the San Juan itinerary. Hopefully they'll keep posting...
We're back from our Hurricane adventure in Cape Hatteras! Time to catch up on work so we can get on our way again next week.

I read "The Lovely Bones" and "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" and cried through both. Not exactly "light" summer reading but they were both very good books. Right now I have a whole collections of old Danielle Steel books my aunt gave me that I will attempt to read on vacation. Nice easy reading.........
Thanks for all the "cheering"! She plays at 7:30 tonight. I will let you know tomorrow how they do.
Her cheerleading coach called yeasterday because Brittany wasn't at practice for conditioning. I told her "She has been at 4 night a week softball practice since mid-June" Her coach goes "well, she's well-conditioned then" LOL She will miss this weeks practice and will be there next MOn, Tues, Wed and then off again. Her squad isn't going to be too happy but you can't help the way things work out this way. Who would have thought that the softball season would still be going on in Mid-August???

OK everone!! It is time for us all to do the single digit dance!!! It is very similar to the doc dance, except done with a "single digit".
You put your index finger up.
You take your index finger down.
You put your index finger up,
and you shake it all about.
You raise your single digit while you twirl your self around.
That's what it's all about.

I know vacation is getting closer, I went to the bank today to get our supply of $2.00 bills and $1.00 bills to have for tips. My DD enjoyed having to $2.00 bills last year to use for tips when she called room service, she thought the $2.00 bills were cool looking.
Only two more days of work, than it's time to fly away. Hopefully, Bonnie and Charlie will not deter our travel plans. The last I heard they were both headed toward the mid-atlantic coast by this weekend.

Andy: Hope your flight down is smooth! Maybe you could give us some kind of a weather update while you're there? Shelby's been worrying we'd have a detour to South Carolina :)
Mike: Interesting article, thanks for sharing. It'll be interesting to see what kind of dances and festivities they'll have for us "front-pagers" :jester:
Went to Sav-on today to stock up on cruise essentials. Looked for Off but West Nile scare has paralyzed Southern California, whose residents have responded by clearing the shelves of repellant of all kinds. Hopefully Target or other store has an ample supply, otherwise we'll be hitting up Eckerd's or some airport shop in Orlando.
Oh and Whoo-hoo, single digits! SO EXCITED!

I wasn't clear where we are meeting. Are we meeting after the safety drill in the Promeade Lounge Deck 3 after the safety drill? If so we will be there.
See ya there.
Good luck to all in your upcoming travels. We are leaving next Friday night and arriving Saturday morning.

Here's wishing safe travel for everyone leaving this weekend! We'll see you there...
Andy - Emily went to the carnival tonight and thought she saw Hazel, but was too shy to say "Hello".
Congrats to Brittany for the terrific season!
Looks like it'll be a rainy weekend here with the remnants of Bonnie and Charley!
