Congratulations Denise! That is wonderful news! I have not heard the term "make settlement" before - but am assuming that it is along the lines of "escrow closes." :teeth:

I guess "make settlement" is a Eastern US thing LOL...I never heard the term "escrow close"....however you say it, its the day we become the owners (and the mortgage holders LOL)

Thanks!!

The term used here is actually "close escrow." Funny how the terminology is different! In any event, congratulations! Are your kids excited?

Yes...we have been living with my parents for the time between when we sold our old house and found another one(a really long story in itself) so they are (and my DH and I) are really ready to GET OUT!!! I have alot to do between now and then, mostof our stuff is in a storage locker but some is in the garage, basement and attic of my parents house.

Thanks again!

Been there, done that! My poor MIL gets us (and our stuff) every time we are in-between moves. We took over her place before we bought our first house and when we moved back to CA from NY. Thank God for our parents! ::yes::

Thank you all for the well wishes!

Try not to laugh too hard when you see me onboard with paint streaks in my hair and big nags under my eyes, from working 3 weeks straight on the house before we go! I think I will be that Dad in the DCL commercial who is sleeping everywhere on board!!!

I know what you mean! My 2 DS's started baseball two weeks ago. They are on different teams and between the two of them, there are 4 - 5 games a week until the middle of June. My older DS is in the minors this year and he plays :umbrella: or :sunny: and I keep on :cheer2:

My DD11 plays Softball, so they travel and my DS7 plays Coach Ptich so they don't but my DH coaches DSs team AND he cuts lawns for a friend of ours business 2 nights a week and Sat. mornings so Ic an go weeks without talking on-on-one with him. Not that I am complaining because I know sometime soon this will all be over and I will be sitting down looking at my DH going "WHo are you??":space:

I work days, my DH works Weekday evenings, 7-5 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday. He also started working M-F days with a landscaper. We see each other in passing. We can't wait for this vacation - 2 weeks together as a family. :thewave:

Hadn't checked in for a while and couldn't sleep, so I just caught up on everything since my last post.

Andy, my sympathies to you, Hazel and her family. I hope that everyone is now doing well.

Someone had mentioned the rainforest excursion in San Juan - it is beautiful, but anyone going should expect to spend most of the time in a motor coach and don't expect to get too far off the beaten path. I plan to go back there, but we're going to find a private driver so that we can have some control over it.

I am very interested in going to the rainforest. How do you go about arranging for a private driver? Is it just a cab or a private tour?

We must all be busy bees here. Looks like we'll all definitely need a vacation by the time mid-August rolls around. I know I'm looking forward to it!

Hope this finds everyone in good health and spirits!

p.s. rainforest sounds awesome. I want to see a fly the size of my palm like we learned about in biodiv. class!

We just got our new passporter Saturday. Love how it has stuff about San Juan, I was getting worried about not knowing anything about excursions until we got onboard. The rainforest tour sounds awesome!

Double digits, here we come!

Yes, Tuesday is the Big Day, and I can't wait to get it over with so I can start feeling better, and get off this pain medication!!!

(and some men can be REAL babies LOL)

Hey, I resemble that remark, LOL!!! Actually, Hazel will have two babies on her hands, me and the seven month old that she is babysitting. Hazel is the one who will be needing more prayers than me, LOL!!!

Maleficent59
05-04-2004, 01:02 PM
Hazel, tie him down! Do not let him walk around and definitely do not let him bend down to print postcards on his printer!!! :teeth: Oh Aaaannddyyyy - try really hard not to tie up the phone line for too long! I know you'll have withdrawal pains, but your health is much more important!! Praying for a speedy recovery! ::yes::

[Note: I talked to Andy yesterday and he said that he was undergoing general anesthesia for his surgery. So, he may be "out of it" for most of today. He will also not be able to use his normal computer because he needs to keep his knee elevated. He will be relegated to using an older laptop with a telephone modem line. Poor guy! :)]

So, how are the rest of you? We're baking here! It was >100 degrees yesterday and we are already in the middle of a bad fire season. Yikes! We've been watering everything twice as much as usual, but we have to be careful not to start mini-mud slides by over watering.

We are waiting anxiously for Disneyland's 50th announcement tomorrow and hopefully, DCL's accompanying sailing schedule for 2005. We'd love to sail out here! Are any of you planning to book one of the west coast cruises? If so, give us a holler - we'll see you at Disneyland!

Like many of us, Andy must be beneficiaries of a a high speed DSL or cable line. Hopefully he can give us an update on his laptop using snail-net.

It's been waay hot here too Sarah, although we're not quite the fry-eggs-on-your-hood temperatures here in Westchester. Hopefully everything stays in place and unlit over there.

We'll probably on the last sailing (no one better take my idea!) because it works with school and such. How about you? We'll probably try and visit the improved mouse house this weekend as well.

Oh well, back to studying. P-chem and ethics tomorrow. Yaaaaaay. (sarcasm)

Ok, Californian's...those are fighting words...Here in PA it is 54 degrees and sunny. Yesterday it was 50 degrees and raining..ABSOLUTELY miserable Monday!!!:umbrella:

I think my grass grows about 6 inches everyday, we have had so much rain! I don't think the rset of this week is supposed to be much better, highs in the mid-60s!!!

On a serious note, I hope the fires aren't too bad this year..keep watering.

We are almost down to double -digits!! YAHOO!!!!

A little rain right now would be a welcome sight, right here in my office. I'm almost envious.

And if you could do something about those darn gas prices too, we'd be set!! lol.

denise5374
05-04-2004, 02:49 PM
What are you prices like there?? Around here it is up to $1.85 for regular unleaded, I think over $2.00 for premium(which I don't use).....The prices keep getting worse. My DH drives 45 miles each way to work so those rising prices hurt! I am thinking it might be worthwhile to get him one of the hybrid cars!

Maleficent59
05-04-2004, 02:53 PM
Hmm ... I miss the cooler weather but don't miss the fog (we're from San Francisco). Sunshine is nice, but >100 degree weather(starting in the spring) is a bit too hot! I had a slight burn on my hand yesterday from accidentally grabbing the metal part of the seatbelt (I'm covering up all the metal parts from here on out!). The air particulate level is high (especially with the ash from the fires - but not nearly as bad as during last year's fires!!) so it's been tough on folks with allergies!

The "improved" mouse house? Are you referring to all the renovations and paint jobs? Areas were still fenced off last weekend, but I'm sure they'll have DL and DCA looking great tomorrow! We are busy with yet another wedding this weekend, so will not be visiting the parks (famous last words). Regarding the cruises, we'll be happy to be on any of the sailings! Alan - go back to studying!

Gas prices: ~$2.25 unleaded (don't even look at the premium prices)!

Credit Man
05-04-2004, 03:00 PM
The price of gas in Central NJ, although going up is still not as bad as some. Filled up this week for $1.65 regular. We are still an all full service state.

Update on VM: he's not feeling so well. He's feeling nauseous and tired. He says that he's in a little pain. But Hazel is at the pharmacy right now filling his new script and buying saltine crackers.

There are a couple of threads on the boards, but here's a message from Andy:

He's grateful for all the support and will be back on the boards soon!

We filled up at a place that had it for $2.13 on Friday. You'd think they were giving it away by the amount of people there.

Hopefully the finals won't be so bad. (Again, famous last words)

Good news about Andy, I'm sure he will be up and at it again soon.

I tell you, it's price gouging! Had to fill up my car during lunch and one gas station had unleaded (the cheapest one) at $2.29/gal. Went to the one around the corner for $2.23/gal. We've been considering a hybrid car for the past couple of years. We may reconsider getting one this summer if the prices keep going up! I love the Princeton campus! It's gorgeous!! West Coast schools just don't have the same character.

Marcotta has been sending me links to the DCL West Coast cruise announcements. So, which one are you booking Scott? Want me to book a cabin for you on the cruise we book on?

Colestat

Gas Prices - one of the great things about NJ - I heard on the radio the other day - NJ has the lowest gas prices in the nation.
$1.69 / gallon for regular.

I am so spoiled by full service - having lived here my whole life. I remember the first time I was out of state and had to fill up, didn't know what to do and had to ask for help. It was embarassing.

denise5374
05-05-2004, 09:06 AM
A funny self-service gas story, when PA went to almost all self-serv my mom didn't know how to pump gas, so she pulled into the station and drove her car over the house and then tried to pump the gas....She was so angry because it wasn't working until the attendant came out and told her!! I was in the car and about 13 years old and I was HYSTERICAL! To this day, she still hates to pump gas!!:teeth:

goingbacksoon
05-06-2004, 04:39 AM
That's pretty funny, too bad they don't do much full-service here. The best they can do in some stations is a "ladies day" where the attendants come out and pump for the gals.

I'm bummed out about the CA cruises, we live within a stone's skip distance and it's still too expensive. We are paying less to fly to Florida this time, stay the night before, have DCL transfers, and still have some left for GF's spa treatment than what I was quoted from the TA for this CA cruise. Maybe we'll get in on a cancellation later on.

Two finals down, biochem left to go. Then I can sell my books back, and get a whole $10 back from originally $98 books. Some deal that is... stupid gouging bookstore.

denise5374

I got a quote for the CA to FL repositioning cruise for the four of us and it was $5700 for a at 9. Not as bad as I thought but Still a big chunk of change....I don't know that we can swing it....We might wait until we are on board and see if anything is still available if not then we will rebook for 8/06 (same week),

GBS, Good luck with Biochem!!! And go out to lunch with your $10!!

PS-Anyone heard from Andy??

Andy here!!! Starting to feel a bit better, I slept most of Wednesday, and when I wasn't sleeping I was laying flat on my back. I always have trouble with anesthesia, and this time was no different. I did get some meds from my doc to help settle my stomach. I finally ate this morning, my first meal since dinner on Monday.

Denise, you got a great quote for the CA to FL cruise. My advice: put the deposit down and decide later. That pricing level will not be available the second you relinquish your hold. Can you tell that I've spent HOURS on 2005 reservations? Will be working on them again first thing in the morning (moving people around, putting deposits down, transfering reservations). The current price for a cat 9 for 2 adults (no insurance, no transfers) for the CA FL cruise is $5521.78 (just checked the website). I can tell you from personal experience that one of the cabins I booked (actually, Marcotta's cabin) went up >$600 in the minute it took for his data to be imported from his current reservation to the CA FL sailing!! (And after talking to several supervisors, I think that's the price he will end up paying).

We booked for both repositioning cruises and a couple of CA sailings. I'm hoping to sail both repositioning cruises. DH is leaning towards CA to FL and the first CA sailing. It's a lot of vacation days!

Sandy: great to see you on this thread! Will you be joining us on this August 21, 2004 sailing?

I can't remember if I shared this or not, but if all goes well, we will be staying about ten minutes from WDW the week before our cruise in August. I'm still waiting to hear back from my boss since I requested the second vacation week .

I just returned home from my first PT session, and all went very good. My range of motion was very good, all I need to work on is strengthening my muscles, and getting the swelling down. I almost have "NO PAIN" whatsoever, even after therapy today!!!

I'm ready to get on that ship right now!!!

PB&J sandwiches are good (I had one for lunch this afternooon in fact). But WDW food is just so tempting, especially at EPCOT... we didn't get a chance to fully eat our way through the world showcase during Christmas. I especially remember the Kringles (sweet pretzels) in Norway, eclairs at Les Chefs de France, and the absolutely perfect steak I had at Le Cellier Steakhouse. Despite Palo, I think the steak was the best thing I had that WHOLE vacation.

I could always take out another student loan.... lol.

Sorry for not responding sooner; hadnt checked this board in a while.

I had planned to find a tourguide in advance. Hadn't started looking yet. Once I find out some stuff, though, I can update you. I had planned to look in www.cruisecritic.com

For those not familiar with it, this is a phenomenal site for anything cruise related. Not much chatter on DCL, but a teremendous amount of information on other cruise lines and ports of call.

It has been my experience that just about any excrusion offered by any cruise line can be arranged in advance, on line, with a better outfitter for less money. Cruise critic is a good place to learn about these private providers. The downside is that, if there is a problem with a ship-arranged excursion, you know that you're not going to miss the ship. If you're 20 miles away from port and get a flat tire with a private tour guide, you may be out of luck.

Andy and I are offering to help make t-shirts for this cruise. We just priced out costs and for 50 shirts, the cost will be $8/shirt. If we order 100 shirts, the cost drops down to $6.50/shirt. Most of the discount is the one-time screen fees.

2 Questions:
1) Who is interested in a shirt? (and how many?)
2) Design: anyone good at this? If not, VM can do it!

For those interested in shirts, please email or PM me (since I have Andy collecting info for the August 2005 cruise and don't want to get these two orders mixed up)! Thanks!!

I just made Tshirts for my family this weekend. I will try to post a picture tomorrow. They have a ship, plane, palm tree, beach and the picture of all the characters on CC (Thanks Andy).

It was a great day in NJ today, like summer - 86 degrees.

Hello Fellow 2004 San Juan Sojourners,

I have been quite busy this weekend making t-shirts desings for our August 2004 cruise and August 2005 cruise. I am attaching a link of the photos that I have taken of the front and back of the t-shirt design for the August 2004 cruise below. If anyone would be interested in having one of these T's you can send me a PM or e-mail and I will get back in touch with you about the details. I am only asking that my expsenses be covered for these shirts, it is not a profit making adventure. Sarah (Maleficent59) had asked me if I would be willing to do this. These would be done with iron-on transfers, and once the shirts are finished I would mail them to you. These photos are that of an adult medium t-shirt. I can get sizes from: Child Small (6-8) Medium (10-12) Large (14-16), and Adult sizes: S-M-L-XL-XXL-XXXL.

I still have the next three weeks off before I go back to work, so now would be a good time for me to be working on these, as it takes time to print out each transfer, then iron them on the shirts. My DW is a sweetie, she is the one who runs to the store for me to pick up the blank t-shirts, while I am home printing the designs off. We make a good team.

Click on these links to see the front and back of the shirts:

The shirts are so cute, I definately want one! An idea that we use at Vacation Bible School, is one of us (or if we are lucky the company) prints out the transfers and then each person irons thier own shirt. It saves so much time for the director (Yea, since its me). I will be happy to do it either way you prefer. Thanks for doing this! :D I am so glad you are feeling better too.

I have some good news, some bad news, and some news I'm still waiting to hear about.

(1)First for the good news: With the help of a very dear CM I am able to book the private room at Palo for the Brunch.

(2)Now the bad news: According to the CM, he can only make a ressie for 14 people in the private room at one time.

(3)Waiting to hear news: I asked the CM if I could possibly make two ressies for the private room, one for Sunday and one for Monday. This way I could devide our group so that eveyone can still get in for a Palo Brunch.

I will keep everyone informed as to what I find out. So far we have 22 people that are interested in the Palo Brunch.

As long as we don't seperate into warring factions, then I think we'll be okay Andy :p. After all, it's a Palo brunch, don't think we can really go wrong.::yes::

O.K., I heard back from the CM and he was able to make a ressie in my name for Sunday August 22, 2004 at 10:30am for the Palo Brunch. He was only able to make one ressie for a group of 14 people, we have room for 12 others for the Sunday Brunch. How should I go about this? We have 22 names on the brunch list. I want to be fair with everyone involved. I was thinking that a second group leader could be formed and make a ressie for another time for the rest of the group. But we need to see how we will devide the groups.

This was the e-mail I received earlier this evening:

Andy,

I have reserved the Palo private dining room at 10:30 a.m., party of 14, under your name for Sunday, August 22, 2004. While I wish I could book the room again on another day, we must ensure that all our other guests have an opportunity to book this experience as well. I hope you understand.

Here is the Palo Brunch list as it stands right now:

DISmeet Palo Brunch List

If you would like to be added to our "DISmeet Palo Brunch List" please let me know. All I need is your name and cabin number for the reservation.

Andy and Hazel Walters--cabin #2118

Michael and Vicki Mednick--cabin #2103

Sue and Tracy Cole--waiting for cabin assignment

Denise and Rex Fields #2128

Jennifer and Joe O'Brien--cabin #8540 (Honeymoon Cruise)

Dan and Linda Blinn--cabin #2022

Sarah Lai--cabin #

Gayle Calimese, Heather Nager, and Heidi Hertel--cabin # 2588

Steve and Mary Rogers--cabin #5514

Scott Maraj and Don Daniel--cabin #6319

What if the person who plans to arrive the earliest tries to get that time for Palo Brunch, for them and the other 6? If I understand it right, you can make a reservation for multiple parties if they are from seperate cabins.

This plan though offers no guarantee of getting 10:30 am Sunday.

Sarah has taken on the job of heading up a second group Palo Brunch. I know that Sarah is always near the front of the line at the DCL Terminal. I am working at trying to divide the groups up as best as possible. I have e-mailed a couple other people to see if they would be willing to switch to Sarah's group.

Yeah, but we'll be with you this time Andy! :D

Seriously, not to worry, we'll get the brunch booked. If we want to book the private room, brunch for the "other" group will most likely be one of the other days: Monday or Thursday. Since Andy's reservation is for Sunday at 10:30am, we can't double book the same room. Or we can see if they can accomodate us in the main area (I think the largest table seats 8). I think it will be easier to plan once we know how many are in the other party.

The other thing to plan are the DIS Meets. Where and when? See you all soon!

Mike, Denise and Sarah - Thanks for the compliments on the shirt. It took me a bunch of tries, I put in the printer wrong and printed on the wrong side, then I forgot to reverse the image, 3rd time was a charm.

Andy - We will be in the Disney parks every day from Aug 13th through the 21st (I plan to hit MK for an hour or two before we head to the boat, our AP's expire on the 21st (so sad)) Maybe we will run into you.

I was wondering if my fellow San Juan Sojourners could keep my family in your thoughts and prayers once again. We arrived home from my niece's wedding this evening, only to find out that my 44 year old brother had committed suicide overnight. His body was discovered at 1pm this afternoon. Tommy left behind a 15 year old daughter. This news came as quite a shock to me, as you can imagine. I'm still sitting here in disbelief.

My DD is taking this very hard, especially since just losing another uncle six weeks ago to cancer. Angelina's closet friend Trish just came over to spend the night with Angelina to help her cope with this loss.

Not real well my friend, I've been having a very hard time sleeping the past few nights. I can't dreaming that I am looking for Tommy, in tonight's dream, I was even going around putting up posters with Tommy's photo on them, asking if anyone sees this person to contact me. My step-mother decided not to have a funeral for Tommy, so maybe in my mind, I don't want to believe that he is really gone, just lost someplace.

I surely do appreciate everyone's prayers and concern, I know that is what is helping me get through this.

Andy, Sorry you are still suffering. I have a friend whose brother did the same thing, it took him a long time to deal with it completely. Don't expect too much of yourself, it is a lot to deal with. Maybe once the burial is over, the dreams will stop since their will be that bit of clusure. I will keep praying for you.

Mike, I wanted to tell you we changed from AOL for Brittany so she hasn't been IMing Krsiten and "forgot" that she can use regular email. So pass that on the Kristen please, I dont want her to think that Brittany just blew her off.

Hello All! I think this is the first weekend I don't have to fly somewhere or work. Yey! We have a faculty/staff/student softball game this afternoon - this should be interesting! Tough when the mind still thinks our bodies are younger than they are!! Been spending my evenings doing research on pianos as DD starts lessons this fall. I think I've narrowed it down so I don't have to play/listen to every piano available this weekend! :smooth: Hey Denise - did you decide on and get your digital camera?

As of late Tuesday afternoon (before the DCL server was taken down for overhaul), DCL did not have finalized itineraries or excursions for the special Eastern cruises. Welcome Reignman and ShyGirl! Hang in there Andy!!! Take care and have a great weekend everyone!

Our softball game did not go well yesterday. The Dean pulled a hamstring (he didn't plan on coming, but the students BEGGED him). Then one of the staff broke her leg running home (she was safe). The ground around home plate was not in great shape and her foot got caught in the ditch. It was pretty awful and it sounded worse! She broke her leg right above the ankle. One of the students called 911; we had ~25 med students stand around and watch while the EMTs did all the work.

I hope you are all having a safe and fun weekend!

I'm such a klutz that it was a good thing that I was late getting there. By then, everyone was divvied up into teams. :teeth: Yes, I did plan it that way! We'll find out how everyone fared tomorrow. Sarah,

I have pretty much narrowed down the choice for camera. I will probably go with the KonicaMinolta Z2, its the best not SLR for what I want, I actually should be using a digital SLR but I don't have the know how or the time to use it properly. I am hoping to get the camera before we cruise but I also havene't had the time to gp find it. With the new house and the kids playing baseball/softball my free time is pretty non-existent!!

I am glad you didn't hurt yourselfplaying ball. My DH plaed in a coaches softball game on Sunday and was acting like a 12 year old, he even dove to stop a ball while playing short stop! Yes, he was SORE yesterday!!

No, we won't be Mike, we will be staying at the Westgate Vacation Villas just outside of WDW the week leading up to the cruise. We will leave from there on Saturday morning and head straight to the DCL terminal.

Congratulations JWeiss! That's great news!

So VM, what's on the agenda for the week before the cruise? WDW? USF? Rock shrimp?! I'm very happy for you that your boss approved your 2 week vacation and that you will be flying (instead of driving!). Won't it be great to be on vacation for 2 weeks?! Sort of a preview for the repositioning cruise next year!

For the NJ folks going to the DIS Meet, have a great time! Be sure to tell us about it when you return! And for everyone else, have a safe and relaxing weekend!

We attended the NJ Dis meet on Sat. It was great! The result of a lot of hard work by Fred (Majestic) who was the meet organizer.

Had the wonderful opportunity to meet Andy (Verandaman) and his lovely DW Hazel and DD Angelina. For those of you who have not met Andy, he is even nicer in person than he is on these boards, as hard as that is to believe.

74 days and counting.

It was also very nice meeting Mike (Credit Man) and his wonderful family. Let me share this with you, Mike is a card, I can't wait to cruise with him in August. I am attaching a link of the photos that I took on Saturday. We had such a good time, and can't wait for another meet.

Sarah, nothing has been set in stone as far as a DISmeet goes on the ship. I was thinking maybe about Sunday afternoon in the Promenade Lounge. Our meet last August just seemed way to rushed between the safety drill and the sail away party. I was hoping for a meet that wasn't so rush-rush. Think about it, and let me know.

Here are the photos of the NJ DISmeet 6-5-04. (http://community.webshots.com/album/149724370GEaaEC)

We had over 40 in attendance, counting the children.

Maleficent59

Regarding a DIS meet, I think that the sooner we all meet, the better. We can also schedule additional "meets" or activities during the week (we had 3 or 4 of these on our August cruise last year).

Option 1: Cruise Terminal. Pro: we're hanging around anyway. Cons: people get there at different times and someone has to stay in line for those reservations!

Option 2: 3:00 pm meet in the Promenade. Pros: Walking Ship tour ends at 3:00 & Mandatory Drill is at 4:00. Cons: folks who board at the last minute (3:45 is all-aboard) and kiddos in the pools.

Option 3: Right after Drill & Before Sailaway. Pro: everyone is on board. Con: too short

Option 4: Continue Meet at Sailaway. Con: can't hear a darn thing!

Option 5: 9:15pm. Pro: after dinner and the show. Con: too late?

Okay, those are just a few options for the first day. We COULD have tried to meet at 10:30 am on Sunday, but noooo, some will be scarfing down brunch!! ;)

DD wants to do the BBR again on CC. This time I will take my glasses off, I promise. I might even wear a pair of goggles so I don't get salt water splashed in my face. Haven't put much thought into other excursions, except maybe a walking tour through Old San Juan.

I received the fax about the San Juan shore excursions. Thanks to both you and Sarah.

Not sure we are doing any excursions on San Juan as both Vicki and I have been there many times before.

I think we plan to go ashore for a bit of walking around Old San Juan and a tour of the fort.

Hi jweiss! (neighbor!!):wave2:

Yes, I am in Concord near DeLaSalle High School. What a "small world" huh? Where are you located. FYI - Maleficent (Sarah) is also from the Bay Area but her family moved down to Southern California (right down the street from where I grew up basically) not too long ago and she still has family members up here as well.

I love reading the DIS board. Everyone is so helpful.

I read that you will be meeting for Brunch at Palo. I wish I could have joined eveyone but my DH doesn't like the idea of leaving DS1 in Flounder. So convincing his to do RES was a job of it's own. But I'm planning on decorating my door so everyone know where we are staying. I think it's room 5016.

I had the pleasure of writing to Andy about post cards a while ago. Thanks again Andy, you're the best. Andy I live in the West Coast, so if you need help to send post cards from here I will be more than happy to help you.

Looking forwarding to meeting everyone

Hi all...I have been gone for a while. Work has been crazy busy and I haven't had time to chat with you all. How dare work interfere with my DIS addiction LOL

Welcome yayasi and welcome back jweiss! I am glad you are joining us!

Andy, I got the tshirts...Thank you so much. I FINALLY rememebred to drop your check in the mail. Sorry I have been a bit scatterbrained lately!!

I am so sorry that we couldn't make the DIS meet on Staurday,as it turned out the baseball games were rained out anyway, so we could have come up. It looks like everybody had a great time! I am looking forward to meeting you all in August.

As far as a DISmeet, I think we will all find each other in the terminal esp. if we are all wearing our really cool shirts!! The idea of after dinner on Sturday sounds good too..I am a night owl so that works for me...I am very easy going so whatever works, just let me know. The only thing we have planned definitely is on St. Thomas we are chartering a boat for the day. A great idea I got from on this board (Thanks Grumbo)!

I think in San JUan we are just going to walk around. Iwanted to go horseback riding my my DS is 7 so he isn't old enough to go. ANd the boat on ST. Thomas is a bit $$$ so there goes our excursion money but it is definitely going to be an experience. So since Mike has been to San Juan many times maybe he would be our personal tour guide???

I have missed all you guys...I feel so out of things. Hope everyone is doing well.

one last thing, I MADE MY FINAL PAYMENT TODAY!!!!!:jumping1: :thewave:

We just made our final payment - let the games begin...

We're probably going to do the 5 Star Snorkle excursion in St. Thomas. We did that with the kids before and it was great for all of us. In San Juan, we're leaning toward the rainforest excursion. How often do we have the opportunity to take the kids to see a real rainforest.

Has anyone seen any official word from DCL about free soda now available at the beverage station? That would be great if it's true!

School and baseball/softball are winding down. Time will fly this summer, I hope.

Yes it is really cool that the final payment is made!!

Our LL season is winding down too, unless DD gets selected for all-star tournament in which case it will be through the end of July(if the team does well!!) School is also winding down, DD had her 5th grade graduation yesterday and made Honor Roll for the first time!! Next Weds we are leaving for Vermont for 4 days, nice place to get away from it all!!

Summer will fly by now!!! Pretty soon we will be meeting up with Mike and family on the Auto Train!!

Whats that about Free Soda??

You can buy an inexpensive journal and recover the front. Or you can make an autograph book and have it wire bound at a local copy store (i.e., Kinkos). Or if you want, I could purchase one for you at Disneyland and mail it to you. :D

I would suggest putting together a small goodie bag and sneaking into the cabin before your son(s) get in there. The "Mickey and Minnie left a surprise for you in the cabin" look of awe is priceless! ;)

Okay, if anyone needs anything (small) from Disneyland, I volunteer to go shopping for you on one of our next trips (we go about every two weeks). I can send it to you in advance so you can have it all wrapped / organized for the cruise.

Here's what I got from someone's post today. I'm a big diet soda drinker and have taken my own on our previous cruises so this would be great news!

"Beginning June 12 on the Disney Magic® and June 13 on the Disney Wonder®, AAA/CAA Travel
will receive a new member benefit. Clients who purchase a Disney Cruise will receive an onboard
credit good toward merchandise, spa treatments, shore excursions and other onboard activities. This
benefit replaces the complimentary soda program, which will now be available to all Guests at the
24-hour beverage station on Deck 9 Aft and during meal hours at Topsider Buffet/Beach Blanket Buffet.
Complimentary sodas will also be available on Castaway Cay at Cookie’s Bar-B-Q and the adult-only
beach, Serenity Bay. Sodas will remain complimentary in full-service dining rooms."

I made our final payment today at AAA. We made out pretty good. They gave us $100 off our fnal payment because we transfered our reservations during their cruise promo month, and since Disney has soda for free for everyone, AAA is giving stateroom credits. We got an additional $150 credit on top of the $400 credit we got when we booked on board last year.

So already we are up $550 to spend!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: I figure with me and DH thats at least 3 days worth of Bingo.;)

Although we don't have 3 kids to get ready for dinner (just two) I think eating in the dining room is part of the charm of a cruise. It gives the kids a chance to practice their less than perfect table manners.

I'll have to look up my information when I get home. I think I have a spa reservation at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Also, depending on DH finalizing his plans with his friends, I don't know what time we'll be at the port Saturday morning (usually, we're there really early, but DH made plans for breakfast Saturday morning with friends).

So I'm hoping that there will be someone else who usually gets to the port early to be backup for Brunch #2? Please let me know. Thanks!

The dinner rotation is where you will be having dinner in each night. On a 7 day cruise it might look something like this APLAPLA, the A stands for Animator's Palate, the P for Parrot Cay, and the L is for Lumiére's. If you had this rotation like we did on last year's cruise you would have dinner three times at Animator's Palate, and twice at each Parrot Cay and Lumiére's.

Gayle17: you can make a request for a certain rotation and if DCL can accomodate it, they will. Some folks like to have formal night/tropical/semi-formal nights in certain dining rooms. And of course, since it took me forever to type this message, VM already posted. :)

Here are a few links discussing dining rotations:

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=584409&highlight=%2Bdining+%2Brotation

You can make a request for a certain dining rotation when you embark during the "reservation rush." Or, if you booked concierge or a special package (like the Romantic Escape at Sea), they "pre-book" you before the cruise. This is why I already have Palo dinner and spa reservations.

Thanks for the offer to help book Palo brunch. I will let you know. My guess for you: arrive 9:30, luggage 10 am, arrive at port around 11am. See you soon!

How about a very quick DIS Meet right after the emergency drill? We should have enough time to snap a few photos, say hello and go on our merry ways. Then, we could have more leisurely meet either late Saturday or sometime Sunday.

I prefer meeting earlier because it is really nice (especially for those who have not cruised before or attended a DIS meet) to see familiar faces. We ran into folks all over the ship and it was nice to be able to say "hi and how's it going?" throughout the voyage. It's also great for the younger kids (like mine - who is an only child) to have a "buddy" in the clubs.

A quick story about a friend and his first DIS Meet. This is a guy who is pretty friendly on the boards and in person. Well, right before his first DIS Meet, he became terribly nervous!! ::yes:: Now, I don't know WHY because we are all a pretty friendly bunch, but I digress ... if the meet was later in the week, I have a feeling that he would have "talked" himself out of the meet. As it was, we saw him all over the ship and we always had something to chat about - and we're sailing with him again on this sailing!! :teeth:

Anyone know the difference between the 5-star excursion and "St. John Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel Tour" save for $3 and rum punch?

With that in mind, how about the two versions of the rainforest tour? They seem similar.

Linda, looks like we will be tailing each other on shore. We are leaning towards those too!

Been busy over here, haven't had a lot of time to check the boards. As 60 days approaches though, it seems so much more real that we are going soon!! Hope everyone is doing well, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the DISmeet and group 2 at the brunch.

I agree on a quick early meet after the drill. I myself am starting to feel nervous about meeting and doing it right away sounds good.

Thanks for the rotation info.

My sister, daughter, and I had a little excursion pow wow tonight and I think in San Juan we will do the Rainforest Tour and in St. John the Island Tour (want to leave plenty of time for shopping).

I would also be nervous about attending the DIS meet....glad to hear others have the same thought. I chickened out of going to the DIS meet at DVC MH a few weeks ago. How silly is that!!!! I feel as if you all know each other already......and I'm not really a DIS'er!!!!

Well, there is always a first DIS Meet for everyone! I never used to check the Meets boards. I "met" DIS'ers on my cruise last June sitting in the terminal. I felt a bit out of place since most of the DIS'ers had already met at the Radisson the night before. But soon, we were chatting away and changing our plans around to do excursions with folks we just met!

In the middle of this thread is the discussion between ************ and Marcotta about their nervousness (you would never guess by their screen persona that they get "stage fright"):

Oh my goodness - I just read through the entire thread above and saw Andy's post about "keeping his lunch down" during his first DIS Meet. We're all in the same boat (pun intended)!

See you all soon! :wave2:

We've done the 5 Star Snorkle a couple of times before. You get the boat right across the pier from where the Magic docks in St. Thomas. The Lleyland Sneed is a pretty decent sized boat - nice and airy for the ride over to St. John. Instead of docking at St. John and taking a taxi or shuttle around to Trunk Bay, the boat actually anchors right in Trunk Bay. From there, you can either get into the water via ladder, jump off the back (Jacque Coustaeu style) or they will take you to the shore in a rubber dinghy and you can snorkle from the beach.

I think the only difference I've been able to come up with on the two rainforest excursions in San Juan is that the second one requires more walking and you actually get to swim at the falls.

I think we're leaning toward the 1st rainforest trip so we have more time to look around San Juan when we get back.

what is the best way to sign up for this 5 star snorkel trip? I read in a magazine that this is the best place to snorkel.

I know I plan to get up nice and early on Tuesday (60 days from there, right) and book through DCL. I'm not so keen on the book-it-yourself-and-save-money idea, so this is safe for me. We'll be on the 5-star ourselves shygirl.

They have a "special services" number on the DCL website that you call and give them your res number and they take your choices. I have heard you can book excursions when you final payment sometimes, but I don't know that definitively.

In other news, has anyone here had an experience with Frontier (cute, fuzzy animals on tail) Airlines? Just curious, they come out as cheapest from L.A..

Oh my:earseek: Sarah, are you talking about me again when I'm not around to defend myself!!! :teeth:

Ok, ok - yes, it's true. I was so nervouse about the meet, I couldn't see straight!!! I skipped the meet the first time I cruised and decided I was GOING TO DO IT the second time as I regretted not meeting anyone the first time. Now, I'm happy to say that since last August, we have stayed in contact with Sarah and her family (though why she still talks to me sometimes baffles me - long story) and we have gone to Dland with them, planned this cruise with them, and will do so again next August for the repo cruise.

Moral: as bad as it may seem as you're walking the hall, step by step, closer to that promenade lounge ready to throw up (without even needing a drink), great things come of these meets! We'll be there for sure!! ::yes::

Scott, you are too funny, but I know what you mean!!!

I thought I'd add our family to the list for the Aug. 21 cruise. I don't want to miss out on all the fun. I've learned so much over the years about WDW and DCL, which has made my trips so much more fun.

We are DD- Allison - age 9
DS- Alexander - age 10 (almost 11)
DH- Ron- turning 50 in Aug.
and myself - Shirley- 48

We are celebrating Ron's big b-day and our 25th anniversary. This will be our 3rd DCL cruise.

Has there been any decision regarding a Dis group excursion? Sarah mentioned the stingray excursion from last August that ended up being a group of probably 85% Dis Board members - we had a blast.

Anything like that this time around or will everybody be doing there own thing?

Forgive me if this has already been discussed and I'm missing a few days - I'm trying hard as I can to work and keep up with the Dis. Priorities, priorities....sheesh!!!

I was thinking the same thing this morning Mike! That once the cruise is over with so is the summer season. That means baseball goes along with it too! (Maybe the Yankees WON'T be in the World Series this year for a change.)

I'm all ready here for an EARLY wake-up tomorrow morning to get those excursions... sometimes being on the West Coast has its disadvantages (5 AM wake-up).

I was just thinking the same thing. I want the cruise to get here but just hate it that summer will be over then. We return to school the Monday following the cruise end. How depressing will that make getting off the ship!

If we are not ready to book our shore excursions tomorrow, will we have a hard time getting the beach ones? I still don't know what we want to do! Thanks!

Haha, same boat here, I start classes for fall the Monday after. That'll make the flight back to LAX seem about as quick as the car ride to the dentist's office when I was a child.

I know the Passporter mentions that the 5-star goes fast, but I think that's the only mention of popularity for any of them. You could probably ask the phone rep, and they may shed some light on that. I'm wondering if they can let you book multiple and then decide later; Shelby wants to do the 5-star but the eco-hike sounds cool for me. I will be asking tomorrow morning.

Marcotta: Got a packet of information to mail to you from our TA.

Did someone say school?! Our summer program for incoming undergrads started today and our new curriculum starts August 9. We're running around like crazy over here!! I'm hoping it will be a bit more relaxed in a couple of weeks. DD started summer day camp today. I wish I had her summer day camp growing up!! They get to go to neat-o places like San Diego Zoo, Legoland, and Knotts Berry Farm!!

We're planning to "wing it" for our excursions. We have a car reservation in San Juan and plan to drive to El Yunque. I talked to the Visitor's Center and they said that they have organized tours that we can join (on a first come basis). This will hopefully give us more time to wander around Old San Juan in the afternoon. DH is leaning towards one of the snorkeling excursions in St Thomas. I'm hoping that he can go with some DIS folks so I won't have to go - snorkeling is just not for me! So, what are you all signing up for?!
